PWE returns to Springfield, IL on Saturday, June 20th at the VFW HALL located at 2211 Old Jacksonville Rd.

The main event of this awesome card will feature the PWE Champion “Bloody” Harker Dirge, who won the title in a match against WWE superstar Al Snow on April 4, this time against the power and intensity of “The Japanese Nightmare” Kahagas.

Both of these ring generals have wrestled throughout the United States, and even internationally, and now they will meet face to face for the first time in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday, June 20th!

Missouri Wrestling Revival was able to catch up with the Tokyo Monster Kahagas and TNT Keny G who had these words to say to Pro Wrestling Entertainments Champion “Bloody “ Harker Dirge

That is not all as the PWE Tag Team titles will be on the line.
PWE Champions Zero Gravity vs. The Hooligans

PWE tag team Champions Zero Gravity will defend their titles against The Hooligans. This match was a battle of speed of Zero Gravity verses the savage brutality of the Hooligans the first time that they met in Granite City at High Voltage Wrestling.

Zero Gravity was able to walk out the building that evening with the tag team belts when the Hooligans were disqualified when Devin Cutter attacked the referee. Who will walk out with the PWE Tag Team Championship will be hard to guess but it will be a match that you will NOT want to miss.

ALL AGES are welcome, and KIDS 5 & UNDER GET IN FREE!
Adults only $8

More to be added to this event soon!

The pro wrestling season typically heats up in the Spring and into early Summer.  May is a time to look at what has happened thus far in the year, and make educated predictions as to what is yet to come.  On that note, the April 2009 Awards should serve as a measuring stick when playing fortune teller.  Here are the winners, as voted by the MWR Awards Committee:

The quality of the AAPW show in Nashville on April 25th was possibly their best since last year. Our first time in this town, they had a paid attendance of 155. Not too shabby. The crowd was HOT. Yes, it was a bit warm in the Community Center, but not that kind of hot. The card was solid top to bottom. The crowd was so happy that The Nashville Moose Lodge, who raised $1,000 from the event, asked AAPW to set aside 4 more dates for fall and winter of 2009/2010!

1st Runner Up – MMWA-SICW

(On a personal note, although we appreciate the gesture from the MWR Awards committee, both Josh and I abstained from voting in this category out of respect to the rest of the hard working men and women in the Midwest pro wrestling scene. We would also like to include Kari Williams who is a wonderful writer and the true talent of the three of us.)

1st Runner Up- JJ Merrick
2nd Runner Up – The Mad Conservative Crimefighter

PWE’S Debut by the numbers of attendance was a little disappointing with the star power and talent on the card to be honest. With that said they should their head up high in the fact that they provided the wrestling scene in the Midwest with some of the top stars in the sport.

PWE management spoke to MWR and felt that they were happy to get their first show on the books. They hoped to improve on several areas’ themselves and felt that the show was a learning experience. PWE wanted to thank the wrestlers for giving a 100 percent and the referee’s that step in on such short notice. Last but not least they wanted to thank the fans for the support and hope that they keep an eye our for the next PWE show.

Till then PWE has teamed up with High Voltage Wrestling to bring the PWE Tag Team Champions to Granite City, IL on May 9th to defend their titles against one of the top tag teams in the Midwest, The Hooligans. HVW returns with a great night of action and some of the top stars in the country. The HVW Champion Donovan Ruddick, The Livewire Champ Kahagas along with all your favorite wrestlers in a card named “Peace and Blood”. For more information go to High Voltage Wrestling.

I would like to thank PWE for the invite to their debut show and would like to wish them the best in 2009 and beyond. To keep up with PWE please check out their myspace at PWE.

Patrick Brandmeyer’s PWE predictions for tomorrow In Springfield IL

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 3, 2009

jimmyswall-1-1-12

PWE Championship Match
Al Snow Vs “Bloody” Harker Dirge

Judging by the video promos of this match, I fear that Snow may be taking Dirge a bit too lightly. However, Snow is a veteran and has seen it all…Dirge will probably give him a tougher fight than expected, but I see the former WWE titleholder coming out on top. PREDICTION: Al Snow

PWE US Championship Match
Mephisto Vs Sly
These two know each other very well, having been both tag partners and opponents in their careers. Sly has the advantage in speed and agility, but lack of size may be his downfall as I see Mephisto overpowering him in this one. WINNER: Mephisto

PWE Tag Team Championship Match
North Star Express Vs Zero Gravity

This should be an outstanding tag team matchup between two of the top duos in the Midwest wrestling scene. The Northstars seem to be the more well-rounded duo and I see them emerging victorious. WINNERS: The Northstar Express

Triple Threat Contenders Match
Arik Cannon Vs Mike Sydal Vs Kyle Rich

Triple threat matches tend to be unpredictable…the third man in the ring can often break up a certain victory by one of the other two. I give this one to Cannon due to the experience edge. WINNER: Arik Cannon

Jeremy Wyatt Vs Jason Lyte of The Hybrids

Will be interesting to see Lyte in singles competition as I’m used to seeing him in tag team action…it should be a tremendous Matchup, but Wyatt is the more seasoned singles wrestler and I see him taking this one. WINNER: Jeremy Wyatt

Mark Sterling Vs Hunter Matthews

Should be a very interesting matchup here…have been impressed with both guys in recent months. I say Sterling wins but it’ll be a close one. WINNER: Mark Sterling

Mississippi Madman Vs Issan Hadeev

Suffice it to say that it could be a long night for Issan Hadeev against the massive Madman…Hadeev will probably need every underhanded tactic in the book to deal with the Madman but I don’t know if it’ll be enough. WINNER: Mississippi Madman

Cecil Cerveza Vs Brandon Espinosa

Should be a good one…a real tossup here. Flip a coin as far as picking a winner here… WINNER: Cecil Cerveza

Matt Cage Vs Curly
Wish I could provide more insight but there are several competitors on this card that I haven’t seen that often(if at all). Interested to see what Curly has to offer though. WINNER: Matt Cage

Triple Threat Tag Team Match
Tracy Smothers & Joey Grunge Vs Sage Ramsey & Dareian Frost Vs Carnage & El Magnifico

Again, three-way matches can go in any direction…tough to bet against Smothers, but the Ramsey/Frost duo may overpower the competition. WINNERS: Tracey Smothers & Joey Grunge

Best of luck to everyone involved…hope the show goes great!

February Promotion of the Month

3XW
logo1

The 3XW show on February 28th was to benefit a 11 year old Christian Arnold & his family. Christian was diagnosed with cancer in his foot and had to have his leg amputated below the knee this week. His family has insurance, but because they took him to Mayo Clinic which is outside their network, much of his bills will not be covered. This is an addition to the costs a family has just having a very sick kid. This was not just a benefit show, ALL the proceeds from this event went to the family.

All wrestlers, referees, ring announcers, etc have volunteered their time and travel expenses so that the absolute most money can be raised for this family. The only money that did not go to the family is the money that the state of Iowa requires for sales tax & a percentage of ticket sales that is required to be paid to the Iowa state athletic commission.

The result? One of the biggest crowds in 3XW history packed the McCarroll Gym and helped raise over $4,000 for the family of Christian Arnold while witnessing one of the most exciting events 3XW has ever held. Wrestling aside, one of the true highlights of the evening was the auction for a steel chair signed by all the wrestlers who took part in the show. The winning bid was a whopping $500 and the winner gave the chair directly back to the Arnold family to keep.

We at MWR never get tired of hearing about a promotion and wrestlers supporting the fans. We salute 3XW with the Promotion of the month for February.

1st Runner Up – Rampage Championship Wrestling
2nd Runner Up –Lethal Wrestling Alliance
3rd Runner Up – MMWA-SICW

Others receiving votes – Scott County Wrestling

February Personality of the month

(The Nosebleed Seats)
chrislee

As an avid fan of the sport, Chris originally began as a ring announcer and commentator, he has announced for several Central Illinois wrestling companies including GAW, NMW, ASCW, SLW and the wrestling event held by the Springfield Stallions. In July 2007, the first episode of the Nose Bleed Seats was produced in Champaign, IL with Chris interviewing the Phoenix Twins-Tweek @ Dash. Originally a web cast program, it began airing on the Springfield public access a year later. In recognizing the best talent to come out of central Illinois, he conceived the NBS Awards, which was held on February 20th. Although owning his own restaurant, the Main Hanger has cut down his ability to make as many shows as he used to, he continues to contribute to the area wrestling scene. MWR is proud to announce Chris Lee as the February personality of the Month.

1st Runner Up- Jewells (LWA)
2nd Runner Up (tie) – Travis Cook (MMWA-SICW), Kari Williams

Others receiving votes- Adam Raw (LWA)

February Match of the month

February 6, 2009

In the main event, the SCW/PWN Tag Team Champions, The Phoenix Twins defeated The Northstar Express in an incredible tag team battle between two rivals that is reminiscent of the Hart Foundation and The British Bulldogs

Join MWR to welcome back Josh Ray from Iraq 3-14-09 at High Voltage Wrestling!

We would like to invite every wrestling fan in the Midwest to join MWR as we welcome back our friend Josh C Ray as he returns from Iraq.  MWR has teamed up with High Voltage Wrestling to bring together a top notch card that promises to excite the young and old.

High Voltage Wrestling boasts a wide range of talent that includes:

HVW Champion “The Future” Donovan Ruddick– Ruddick is one of the most powerful men in the Midwest. With his manager “The Magic Man” Ruddick has had a stranglehold on the HVW title with no plans on letting it go anytime soon.

The Japanese Nightmare Kahagas– Kahagas is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the nation and has battled with Dusty Rhodes, Tomko, and just recently wrestled a classic against Dingo at HVW in January.

Dingo- Dingo is a Champion where ever he goes. He currently holds the NWA Missouri and the IWA- Mid South Championship and the HVW title looks to be in his sights.

“Big” Rick Fuller– Fuller has wrestled Hogan and Goldberg in WCW. Trained under WWE Superstars Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas. A Star in New Japan Pro Wrestling Fuller has been terrorizing wrestlers around the world with a chop that you have to hear to believe.

Brandon Espinoza – Multi-talented, Brandon came close to becoming the first HVW Champion in a three way with Ruddick and Kahagas. Now he sets his sights on the HVW Livewire title.  Look for an exciting match when he takes on fan favorite Gary J.

Gary J – Gary never fails to excite the crowd and is not afraid to put his body on the line. Come and see what the Gary J will do next!!

Some of the most talked about tag teams in the Midwest will be in St Louis as well. The devastating duo The Hooligans, the exciting Zero Gravity, the team of the future The Hybrids and one can not forget the HVW’s own Bandana Mafia. Teams that have graced the HVW ring in the past are The LONRS, The Blackhearts, and NBWA’s finest. If you like tag team action then you will love HVW.

That is not all….MWR is proud to bring to HVW two of the premier wrestlers in the Midwest. “The King of the 450” Steve Anthony will be taking on “Superstar” Steve Fender These two men were chosen because they were two of Josh’s favorites in the ring. You will see quickly why Josh feels that way when two hook up. Both have trained under Pro Wrestling Legend Harley Race at WLW. Superstar Steve has been toured Japan several times and you recently saw Anthony wrestled at ROH debut in St Louis. This has a chance to be a match talked about in St Louis for years to come.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see stars around the nation this coming Saturday. Tickets are only $10.00. Children 7 and under is FREE!! HVW is supporting our troops by allowing all Military personal to save a dollar if you show you’re Military Id.

MWR November 2008 Awards

Posted by flairwhoooooo on December 12, 2008

November Wrestler of the Month

jeremy-wyatt-part-2

Jeremy Wyatt (PWP, LWA, 3XW, HVW, NWA-DPW)

The rebel wrestled in FIVE organizations in four states in the month of November. At 3XW in Iowa, he defeated the vastly improving Mike Sydal. In Illinois with HVW he wrestled Kahagas in such a tough match that Kahagas had to use a fake injury to get the upper hand to steal the win. At LWA in Missouri, he retained the LWA Championship in a three way between Dingo and KC Karrington when he pinned Karrington.

He traveled to PWP  in Iowa he was able to retain the PWP Championship when he defeated former Champion Abu Colossus and #1 Brett Young in a three way dance. Last, but not least he returned to Kansas with the NWA, he was scheduled to take on Dingo but when Dingo was unable to go, none other than ROH Star Davey Richards would be the man Wyatt had to beat. In a match up that Wyatt sure felt the next day; the outcome was once again a win for the Rebel Jeremy Wyatt.

In a time where 100 people attending is good, 221 is phenomenal. What is more impressive is the last time wrestling was there the attendance was low. More important than the number was the crowd response. From the time the bell rang to the last pinfall the place was off the hook.

Magic Man (HVW)

Seemingly 100% behind his man from the PWI 500, The Magic Man turned on Kahagas during the main event of the last High Voltage show, aligning himself with “Future” Donovan Ruddick. He showed that he gravitates toward greatness, and he felt that Kahagas could not handle it anymore (see video on Missouri Wrestling Revival). Overall, Magic Man’s wit and knowledge warrant his nomination for Personality of the month.

1st Runner Up- Luke Roberts (LWA)

November Match of the month

NWA Kansas Champion #1 Brett Young

Vs.

Tyler Cook

(NWA Presents Dynamo Pro Wrestling)

October 29th Pomona, Kansas

On a night where every match was top notch, the pressure was on in front of 221 people. The Kansas Champion was at his very best, working the crowd to frenzy and using every advantage to retain the title. Tyler Cook, worked and worked to get the momentum going his way but when Cook hit the uncovered turnbuckle (Thanks to Brett Young earlier) he would go home without the belt. In the main event, you can make or break what the fans thought of the night. Cook showed that he can live up to the hype that many feel he is capable. The fans though, cant wait to see Brett Young get what’s coming to him next time. What more can you ask from the bad guy?

Vinyl and Vega: Moving Up in the World

Vinyl and Vega: Moving Up in the World

Lethal Wrestling Alliances undisputed best tag team, Spitfire Davey Vega (back) and Blackheart Johnny Vinyl (front).

Lethal Wrestling Alliance's undisputed best tag team, "Spitfire" Davey Vega (back) and "Blackheart" Johnny Vinyl (front).

At the end of October, Missouri Wrestling Revival reported on the emerging tag team scene in the Midwest. There are great tag teams out there that need no introduction in most regions of the MWR coverage area: Northstar Express, Phoenix Twins, Zero Gravity, Windy City Classic and LONRs are a few of the teams that fit in this category. Other strong teams include the Hybrids, Marc Godeker & Steve Anthony, Abuse of Power, Feature Presentation, Midwest Ground & Air, Gentlemen’s Club and Team W.A.R. These teams are a representation of the depth of tag team wrestling in the Midwest.

The real testament to the depth of Midwest tag team wrestling, however, comes in the form of a tag team powerhouse in a promotion with no tag team championship: “Blackheart” Johnny Vinyl & “Spitfire” Davey Vega. As the undisputed top team of the tag title deficient Lethal Wrestling Alliance, Vinyl and Vega have struggled to get the recognition each deserved. That all changed at the end of this past month when not only did they square off against arguably the best team in the MWR coverage area and the entire Midwest, The Northstar Express (Darin Corbin & Ryan Cruz), but they managed to defeat them! The victory moved Vinyl & Vega into 9th place in the 2008 MWR Tag Team Wrestling Revival Cup standings.

Earlier in the week, I had the opportunity to sit down with both Vinyl & Vega and talk about the match. We also discussed the LWA and their future. Here is the interview in its entirety:

The Lethal Wrestling Alliance (LWA), Missouri Wrestling Revival (MWR), and even many of the wrestling fans hyped the match between you two and The Northstar Express before the October 24, 2008 face off. Leading up to the match, did you feel it was being overly hyped?

Vinyl: No, I didn’t think so. It was going to be our first opportunity to prove ourselves on a national stage.

Vega: Yeah. On one hand you have the well-traveled tag team (Northstar Express). On the other, an up and coming team that a a few people know about but just needed that one high profile match to step it up.

Vinyl: It was our coming out party as one of the top teams going today, so I felt the hype was justified.

How did you prepare for the match?

Vega: I was in the gym five days a week for the two months leading up to the match. I also trained at Dynamo Pro Gym on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. It was the most I have ever prepared myself for one match. The week before the LWA show I slowed it down a bit so that I didn’t overwork myself.

Vinyl: I did everything I normally do, but doubled it. I don’t lift weights often, preferring a more cardiovascular workout. I turned my cardiovascular conditioning up a notch because I knew Corbin and Cruz were going to be well-conditioned. I wasn’t going to let them wear us down.

What was the atmosphere like in the back on the night of the match?

Vega: I’m not going to lie. I was nervous.

Vinyl: For me it was a mixture of nervousness and being psyched.

Vega: Well, my main goal was to walk out there and have a great match. I wanted to give the fans something to remember. I knew I needed to step up my game to hang with The Northstar Express.

Vinyl: I had full confidence in our team and I knew how good Corbin and Cruz are, so I had no doubt that the match would be good. It was all a matter o just how good. For me, it all just sort of washes away once our music hits, though. When it’s game time, it’s game time.

Did Northstar Express live up to the hype?

Vinyl: In my opinion they did, but that was never a doubt. They are incredibly talented and gave us the fight of our careers thus far.

Vega: They are seasoned wrestlers with years of tag experience under their belts, so of course they did.

Do you feel that this match puts the two of you on the map?

Vinyl: Boy, I hope so. The LWA website (www.lwawrestling.com) said that this was LWA’s best tag team match since the Motor City Machine Guns versus Dingo & Nick Tyson. That’s pretty high praise. I think that if nothing else this match has helped us turn a few heads.

Vega: I don’t think it will immediately pu us on the map, but as people begin recognizing how well both teams performed and that we aren’t a joke as a tag team the we’ll emerge as one of the best in the area.

Did you go into this match 100% sure of a victory?

Vega: If you haven’t noticed, Vinyl and I are very confident individuals. We go out there every time with the attitude that we are going to win.

Vinyl: There weren’t going to be any free rides in that match for the Northstar Express.

Have you received any more interest from outside promotions since your victory over Corbin and Cruz?

Vega: All American Pro Wrestling (AAPW) has a poll on their site (www.allamericanprowrestling.com) for the fans to vote on who they want to wrestle the LONRs for the AAPW Tag Team Titles. I’ve heard that we are ahead in the voting.

Vinyl: I’ve never worked for AAPW and Vinyl has only worked there once. I can only assume that some of this notoriety is from our victory over Northstar Express. I would love to work for AAPW because they have a great tag team division and the audience is radically different than what I am used to with LWA. It would be fun.

Vega: Outside of AAPW there hasn’t been much interest, yet. I think the shock will need to wear off from our big win and then more offers will roll in.

What are your thoughts on the LWA creating a tag team championship?

Vega: There have been some talks about tag titles in LWA for a long time, so hopefully it comes to fruition soon.

Vinyl: What would be the point in the LWA creating a tag team championship when there is only one team with the talent to hold it?

Vega: The belts already have a place reserved around our waists.

Where do the two of you go from here?

Vega: I plan on continuing to improve and make my name, no matter what it takes. I’ll take whatever challenge is set before me, so any company looking to book me can reach me at daveyvega85@gmail.com or http://www.myspace.com/daveyvega for booking information.

Vinyl: There is a list of companies we’d love to work for, like CHIKARA, IWA Mid South, American Luchacore, All American Wrestling, All American Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Phoenix, 3XWrestling, and more. If we continue to have matches like this past one with the Northstar Express, then we’ll be wrestling for them all sooner or later.

Any words for tag teams in the MWR coverage area?

Vinyl: I think the Midwest right now is in a strange state. We have one of the most shallow single wrestler pools, yet the tag team pool is very deep. We’d love to get in the ring with the LONRs, Phoenix Twins, Hybrds, Zero Gravity, B.A.B.E.WATCH, Osirian Portal, Cheech & Cloudy, Windy City Classic and anybody else we haven’t faced before. We’d love to keep wrestling talented teams like Northstar Express and Ego Express. If you’re a fan of tag team wrestling and you live in the Midwest, I believe right now is an exciting time and it’s only going to get better.

Vega: I can’t really add much else other than to say that I look forward to stepping in the ring with any tag team in the area.

Vinyl: Oh, and for more booking information for me go to http://www.myspace.com/bncjohnnyvinyl.

A New Number One?

Posted by Admin on October 25, 2008

A New Number One?
The tag team scene heats up.

by Josh Ray

After what seemed like an eternity at the number one spot, the Northstar Express fell one spot to number two.  Taking their place at number one is the ultra-talented team known as The Phoenix Twins (Tweek & Dash).

The Phoenix Twins have received their fair share of accolades this year.  In the MWR coverage area for 2008, they have held the AAPW tag titles and wrestled in the MWR Match of the Month for March.  They’ve also been MWR Tag Team of the Month in March and May, as well as the Tag Team of the 1st Quarter.  While nipping at the heels of the Northstar Express since the beginning of the 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup, Tweek and Dash overtook them after capturing the Scott County Wrestling Tag Team Titles this month.

That’s not to say that Darin Corbin and Ryan Cruz are out of the hunt.  A very popular tag team, the Northstar Express suffered a setback when Darin Corbin injured his knee at a 3XWrestling show in Des Moines, IA in September.  He’s since recovered moderately from the injury and they’ve got a busy second half of October, but those matches are tough and could slow them down even further.

Another team that has slipped slightly in the tag team rankings is the team of Danny Daniels & Trik Davis, collectively known as Windy City Classic.  Windy City Classic had a tight grip on the Scott County Wrestling Tag Team Titles for a large portion of the year, but the talent and teamwork of teams such as Zero Gravity (Brett Gakiya & CJ Esparza) and Phoenix Twins caused them to wear down over time.  Both teams have tasted SCW Tag Title glory in the past two months.

The team to look out for is the LONRs (Darrien Sanders and Mark Sterling).  These guys have been on a steady climb as of late, and the month of October could prove to be their best yet.  The LONRs defeated the former number one team twice this year (Northstar Express) in successful defenses of the Pro Wrestling Phoenix Tag Team Titles, and last week defeated the new number one tag team (Phoenix Twins) to capture the All American Pro Wrestling Tag Titles.

The dark horse in the hunt for the MWR 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup for tag teams would have to be Lethal Wrestling Alliance’s top tag team, Davey Vega & Johnny Vinyl.  These two have competed solely in the LWA this year, a promotion without tag team titles to measure success.  Currently ranked 11th, these two have crawled within striking distance of the top ten and at press time were staring down the Northstar Express in a big match for bragging rights and a possibly push to the top of the rankings.

The 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup is coming to a close in the very near future and the fight for the championship is intensifying.  Who will take home the
