David Wilson’s Interview with Davey Vega

Posted by flairwhoooooo on September 9, 2016

2

DW – How long have you been wrestling?

DV – As of Dec this year it will be 10 years.

DW – Who has been your biggest supporter when it comes to wrestling?

DV – I would have to say my Mom, we talk several times a week and she is always checking in on my wrestling.

DW – Who is the biggest named wrestler you have wrestled so far?

DV – It would probably be a toss up of either Jerry Lynn or Chris Hero.

DW – I along with everyone else thought you would be the one to take the belt from Gary Jay, but we all know Fitchett did, with that being said could you see yourself going after the title that is held by your best friend?

DV – We have a agreement that we won’t wrestle each other, Unless circumstances change or of course if he drops the title.

0

DW – Who trained you ? and where?

DV – First my training was done with Dingo, I eventually got with Mike Quackenbush from Chikara Pro.

DW – What’s the best advice you have ever been given when it comes to wrestling?

36

DV- Dingo on the first day of training, Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut.

DW – If you wasn’t wrestling what do you think you would be doing?

DV- Playing baseball somewhere, in the outfield.

DW – Tell me something about yourself that nobody knows or people outside of your circle don’t know about you?

DV – Most people don’t know I’m a avid reader, I especially love the Rick Riordan series, I am a huge fan of Greek Mythology .

DW – If you could wrestle anyone living or dead, who would it be?

DV – Bret Hart in his prime, I could learn alot from him.

DW – To date what is your most memorable match?

DV – Probably the 6 man tag it was myself, ACH, And Fitchett, versus Gary Jay, Pierre Abernathy and Evan Gelistico, after the match Dolph Ziggler came up and congratulated us and it was also my first standing ovation.

35

DW – In your wrestling career what is something you wish you would or wouldn’t have done?

DV – I wish i would have started out eating better and working out. Experimenting with my body and started way sooner.

DW – What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the wrestling?

DV – Be yourself, be a good person, don’t let the struggles change you as a person.

00

DW – What can we expect from Davey Vega for the rest of 2016?

DV – Trying to make it, staying healthy and working on my body.

DW- Thanks for taking the time I really appreciate it.

DV- Thanks for having me

Are the Young Bucks prepared for the Hooligans at St Louis Anarchy?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 23, 2014

 photo sla3_zps993a0ae7.jpg

The hardcore wrestling fan base are quick to point out that one of the top tag teams that you have never heard of is the Young Bucks. They consist of southern California heart throbs, brothers Matt and Nick Jackson, two young wrestlers that represent the west with their stereotypical glitz and glam, but make no mistake about the two are much more than just two pretty boys.

Many of the top teams went into a match against the Young Bucks, thinking they would be able to control them by grounding the brothers, only to find out that it is easier said than done. Matt and Nick has a second level that only the best teams possess, that quality has lead their opponents running out of gas, breathing for air and within moments looking at the ceiling at the bright lights, wandering what went wrong.

This has been the case with so many wrestling tag teams around the world that have tried their hand to keep up with the Young Bucks. For the past several years they have won fans over in great matches at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Chikara, Ring of Honor, Evolve and most recently at New Japan Pro Wrestling capturing the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship by defeating Suzukigun (Taichi and Taka Michinoku).

Tag Team Championship and wrestling on most recently wrestling on IPPV this month for Evolve has the Young Bucks continuing their hot streak and adding more evidence to those that say that they are pro wrestling’s best tag team not with the WWE in 2014.

But is that about to change?

On February 28th and March 1st the Young Bucks have signed to wrestle at St. Louis Anarchy for their biggest shows in SLA History. The weekend is filled with many of the top talents in the Midwest today, mixed in with some of hottest young wrestlers in the world as Eddie Edwards, Davey Richard, Kyle O’ Reilly, Darin Corbin, Gerald James, Jeremy Wyatt, Bolt Brady Davey Vega, Brandon Espinosa and Mat Fitchett will all be in action for this Midwest Supercard.

 photo 0_zps774663b9.jpg

The Young Bucks are set to meet the very popular young SLA tag team of Davey Vega and Mat Fitchett on the first night of the double shot. Vega and Fitchett are two of the young singles wrestlers that have come together to form an exciting team that will match speed vs. speed and heart vs. heart.

The Young Bucks could very well head into the second night of the 2014 SLA Gateway to Anarchy Weekend 0-1.

 photo HH_zps747c618f.jpg

Win or loss on the first night there is a team that is looking to prove to the fans of the Young Bucks that their favorite team has met their match. That team is the Hooligans, Devin and Mason Cutter, ask any wrestler or fans in the Midwest who the best tag team in the area is and the answer is sure to be these two brothers, that have kept tag team wrestling alive. Ranked as the number one tag team in the MWR Coverage area, they are the only tag team to win the MWR Tag Team of the Year Awards twice after being chosen again in 2013.

We caught up with the Hooligans who had this to say on this huge match that is just over a month away “The Young Bucks are a world Traveled tag Team and one of the Best in the World. But in us they face a Hungry team one that wants what they have one that wants to prove they are the best. So in Alton il they best be prepared cause not only do they face The Hooligans They face us with we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

On March 1st, it will be 2 brothers vs. 2 brothers, the Jacksons vs. the Cutters in a war that will be of epic proportions. Not since the West Virginia’s, Hatfield family and Kentucky’s, McCoy’s went to war has there been a more talked about battle in this area.

 photo HOOLIGANS1_zps67d7a13a.jpg

Can the Young Bucks survive the onslaught that the Hooligans are capable of with a combination of, power and the underrated speed that the Cutter Brothers deliver early and often in a match?

The Young Bucks will hope to set up the Hooligans with excellent tag team moves such as the Aided dropkicks, the Crazy Dive, the Stereo 450° splashes Springboard splash (Nick) / standing moonsault (Matt) combination only to finish them with their breathtaking finishers the Early-Onset Alzheimer’s or More Bang for Your Buck (Rolling fireman’s carry slam by Matt followed by a 450° splash by Nick followed by a moonsault by Matt).

The Hooligans though have taught this generation of fans in the Midwest what true tag team wrestling is about by taking them to school as they cut the ring in half with perfect precision. That are masterful by creating chaos and havoc from start to finish that has left their opponents confused and bewildered questioning themselves on what happened after the Hooligans hit them with their own moves the Hooligan Rush and the Hooligan Driver.

The time has come for the Hooligans, will they be able to show the world that they are indeed the most underrated tag team today or will the Young Bucks add them to the list of victims that thought they were up to task to challenge them?

Purchase your tickets today to say that you were part of history when St Louis Anarchy presents Gateway to Anarchy and be ringside for this exciting ride to see the Best of the Midwest meet one of the Best in the World.

The Young Bucks are coming to SLA in 2014!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on December 8, 2013

 photo generation-me2_zps05b170e2.jpg

The smoke hasn’t even settled at St Louis Anarchy’s Friday night huge 2013 Yuletide Terror and the Christmas gifts just keep on giving from the land of Anarchy. Two MAJOR matches are signed for March 1st GATEWAY TO ANARCHY super card

First you have the current SLA Champion Gerald James who will defend his title against the Gold Edition winner Kyle O’ Reilly!! He is using his title shot that night and of course it will be two out of three falls. These men met at 2012 Yuletide Terror in a match that O’Rielly won. O’Rielly won a classic this past Friday night by defeating one of the best in the country, Johnny Gargano by submission.

Does he have James’s number? Mark your calendar, get your tickets and be there on March 1st!

Yet, that is not all.

Making their very first debut at SLA  will be a tag team that many believe to be the most underrated tag team in world today, Matt and Nick Jackson, the Young Bucks. From Japan to the US with top companies like TNA , Chikara, Dragon Gate USA, and ROH they have brought fans to their feet with their electrifying moves.

 photo 0_zps9a1d3cb7.jpg

Throughout the past few years, wrestling fans and the Hooligans opponents such as Zero Gravity, have seen the Cutter Brothers with their hands raised at the end of the match. They will look to ground the Young Bucks at SLA in 2014.

SLA continues to deliver matches that fans have been demanding as the Young Bucks are set to meet Hooligans! Devin and Mason Cutter continue to build their reputation as true tag team excellence. On this night they will be put to the test as the Young Bucks will hope to use their speed to offset the tag team perfection of the Hooligans.

More info as it comes in and be sure to keep up with SLA on their very own facebook page.

12 Wrestlers that will make an impact in Midwest during 2012!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 19, 2012

By Brian Kelley

Sure you know about the past MWR Wrestlers of the Years and champions at each promotions but what young stars should you be on the lookout for this coming year. Here we give you 12 for 2012 for you to be on the lookout for.  Some are close to be among the choices for Wrestlers of the year real soon while others are knocking at the door to be  a force in the future.

As far as the wrestlers who didn’t make the list. Use this article as motivation to outshine all twelve of these fine young talents in 2012.

Let the fun begin in the squared circles around the Midwest.

1)      Serenity

Photobucket

Serenity is known for wowing the crowd with her dazzling colors and beautiful smile. Underneath the surface, however, lies the heart and desire of a true professional wrestler. Fear is only a four letter word to this young lady as she isn’t afraid to mix it up with anyone, male or female, inside the squared circle. Anyone who has stood across from her in the ring will soon tell you that Serenity means business and if you don’t believe them, try it. You’ll find out for yourself.

Outlook: How much impact that she will have in 2012 in the MWR coverage area depends on how often she wrestles in the 15 promotions that we cover as promoters in up north have taken notice. Her looks has caught the eyes of promoters and her work rate and desire to be the best has shown moments of greatness at times. She finished the year wrestling at SICW against MsChif in the St Louis area for the first time in years.

Here is the kicker, this talented young wrestler is only twenty years of age and wrestled MsChif at the young age of 18. That’s right, she is only twenty, and has charisma to spare. She will only be getting better and looks to be one of the top stars in wrestling for many years to come. Look for her to make her way in SHIMMER sooner than later.

2)      Christian Rose

Photobucket

Rose works over Danny Cannon- Tim Dunahee

Rose had a very good 2011 but everyone at MWR feels as if the best is yet to come. A current AAPW Tag Team Champion with Matt Cage have been active at IWAU, NMW , SLA and AAPW. Quality promo skills keeps the fans attention while his in ring action keeps him in every match. Rose could easily be a MWR Wrestler of the year down the road as he has been gaining respect from his peers and a threat to his opponents.

3)      Bull Bronson

Photobucket

Bronson may be raw, let me say that again Bull is very raw but very few men in the Midwest  is as big as the HUGE AAPW star. He won a big 5-man scramble match at AAPW’S Main event and was very impressive as he picked up the win on AAPW regular Playboy Paul Rose.

A manager in this stage of his career could do wonders for him in 2012. Some training from Harley Race’s Wrestling Academy could prepare him on how to deal with other powerhouses as Brian Breaker and Jason Jones who both know how to use their strength and leverage to work to blow up a man the size of Bronson.

4)      LaMarcus Clinton

Photobucket

Loved by the fans, LMC will have to limit these mistakes that he made in Hillsdale,MO for the fans if he hopes to make it to the next level...Still Brandon Espinosa is one of the masterminds of fooling even the best and here he played possum, then moved at the last moment. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

He is quite possibly the most popular wrestler at MMWA-SICW other than Gary Jackson. Clinton is high flying and exciting but this is also high risk thus making his win loss record inconsistent. Needs to put on some weight to be a true threat to a main title at this time in his career. Maybe a tag team partner for now would give him time to gain the mass that he needs to be a title contender. Still 2012 looks to be a year with many chances to succeed for Clinton. That is if he can overcome a sophomore slump

5)      American Bulldogs

Photobucket

The American Bulldogs with manager Skyler Pierce.

Maddog McDowell has won tag team titles with multiple partners in many promotions but you can tell that he has a special place in his heart for rookie Jonathan West. McDowell has true power that has allowed him to contend for singles titles and grudge matches with some of the best in the sport. West has been like a sponge, taking in all the info and advice that McDowell will give him. Their feud with Chad Mylans MMA was a highlight for fans at 3XW for almost all of 2011.

Quality matches on the road at PWE against the PWE Champions the Hooligans showcased West at his very best. Still the inexperience of the Bulldogs would cost them during the match as the Hooligans proved once again to the Midwest that they are arguably still the standard for tag teams in the Midwest.

6)      Jaysin Strife

Photobucket

How does one of the very best in the Midwest get on this list?

Honestly, he just hasn’t been able to get going at full speed for some time. He is one of the best wrestlers today that many fans have never heard of. A tour overseas in 2011 limited his coverage as well as working towards making Magnum Pro Wrestling a force in Iowa. Strife has bookings for 3XW and PWE and if the fans are lucky at Metro Pro Wrestling he will become a regular there as well. In fact I am still waiting for my Jaysin Strife vs “Superstar” Steve Fender match. Any promotion that wants a main event player added to their roster should contact Strife soon.

7)      ACH

Photobucket

ACH puts his body on the line against Gary J- Photo credit Texas Anarchy

Many fans feel as if the “The Last Dragon” is a superstar sooner than later. Innovated in his moves fans at St Louis Anarchy have been raving about the young star all last year. In December at St Louis Anarchy, he would rain on the parade of Jeremy Wyatt as he returned to LWA/Anarchy in a losing effort in what many fans stated was a great great match.  Fans at Metro Pro Wrestling be sure to get tickets for the Feb 4th show as Wyatt and ACH will meet once again.. ACH will also be heading to PWE in Mt Pulaski as he will be taking on Jordan McEntyre    during a qualifying match to enter the 2011 PWE Epic 8 tournament that was won in 2010 by the 2011 MWR Wrestler of the Year Brandon Espinosa.

Then on February in Granite City he will return to SLA to take on TJ Perkins. Like Rose, ACH is poised to become a MWR Wrestler of the Year if the cards deal them the proper way in the future.

8)      Tyler Priegel

Photobucket

Priegel is poised to make a run for the NMW title that has been owned by Ryan Phoenix- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Many fans smirk at his nickname “the Dodgeball Superstar“, but Tyler Priegel is no one to take lightly. What makes Priegel so dangerous is how methodical he is in the ring. No wasted movement and always going forward. He is a true threat right now to NMW Champion Ryan Phoenix’s title. Like Serenity though, will Priegel make his way to the MWR coverage area enough to make the impact for us to see? We certantly hope so.

9)      Mat Fitchett

Photobucket

Mat Fittchet has not had it easy for a young star. _Photo Credit Texas Anarchy

Nicknamed “Flippy Sh%T”, Fitchett has been trained by local legend Dingo and former NWA Missouri Champ Davey Vega. Fitchett has been earning rave reviews in Texas with Texas Anarchy and ST Louis Anarchy backing down from no one. Was honored a Chikara spot for the Young Lions cup, in 2011 and was very impressive. Fitchett is another wrestler that MWR Promoters should be on the phone to try to get a spot for him on their card. Exciting and electrifying, he always brings a 100 % and looks to be a star for years to come

10)   Heath Hatton

Photobucket

Heath Hatton had a strong 2012, he was one half of the AAPW tag Team Champions with Curly. He made appearances for Harley Race’s WLW and TNA’S developmental league OVW in Kentucky. Hatton would have to go at it alone when Curly was fired from AAPW thus leaving him alone to defend the titles against Matt Cage and Christian Rose, and though Hatton fought with true heart the mountain was too tall to overcome as arch rival “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony assisted Cage and Rose to help them became the AAPW Tag Team Champs.

He started 2012 off just right by defeating Anthony convincingly at AAPW’S Main event. Would love to take on AAPW Champ Edmund McGuire but with the two being among the top two fan favorites right now he may have to wait a bit. That may be a blessing because right now he may not be ready for the champ but with further training and matches around the Midwest by the end of 2012, he may be the man at AAPW.

11)   Lucy Mendez

Photobucket

Midwest dream girl can wrestle as good as she can model.

She is The Current WLW Ladies Champion, and yes the ratings soar when she enters the ring for Metro Pro Wrestling whether it is as a valet for Domino Rivera or in action herself. In 2011 she feuded with the 2011 MWR Female Wrestler of the Year Stacey O’Brien who just barely won the award over “The Latino Princess

So why is she on this list?

It’s simple really.

Mendez just started training late 2008 and has already won two WLW Ladies Championships. With looks that kill and the desire to be the best she has been on the search for the top competition in the Midwest. Mendez has already been in the ring with the likes of O’Brien, Miss Natural, Amy Hennig and MsChif.  We would love nothing more than SHIMMER to give her an opportunity to showcase her skills taught to her by the greatest of all greats Harley Race. She deserves a chance to earn her respect  among here peers by meeting the very best women wrestlers in the world today at Shimmer. Women such as the CHEERLEADER MELISSA, SARA DEL REY and Rachel Summerlyn could bring her to the next level in 2012.

Photobucket

12)   Joey O’Riley

Photobucket

The new IWAU Champ Joey O'Riely - Photo Credit Tim Dunahee

It is easy to add O’Riley to the list many will tell us after he had defeated IWAU Champion Matt Cage in a ladder match this past Saturday in Olney Illinois. True, but it is one thing to win a title it’s another thing to hold onto the belt and with Cage who is still in the mix for another shot, it may be harder to retain that what it was to capture the title.

His youth and focused will be tested early on as he is now the hunted. With that said this is a blessing for young O’Riley so that it can prepare himself on what it is to be a Champion. The pressure of winning a belt is now over.

O’Riley is another wrestler who is still raw in his skills and in 2011 he made appearances for New Midwest Wrestling in tag action. While he is the king of his home base at IWAU it will be interesting to see how he deals with adversity. His next opponent is scheduled to be Cash Bordin, a guy who will do whatever it takes to get the belt but if he is to be among the best O’Riely  is going to have to make quick work of another fellow young star in Bordin.

Mike Sydal presented with the 2010 MWR Wrestler of the Year Plaque

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 18, 2011

Photobucket

Fans around the country have fallen in love with “Rock and Roll” Mike Sydal. The brother to WWE Superstar Evan Bourne said it best during his presentation of the MWR Wrestler of the year plaque, “In 1998 MWR ranked him the number 98 in the MWR 100 wrestlers in the Midwest and two years later I was named the MWR Wrestler of the year.

Sydal would not just sit back and live off the name of his brother. From the start of his career Sydal went on the road to earn the reputation of one of the top young stars in pro wrestling today. Sydal would spent the next two years traveling around the country looking for the top competition in almost every respectful promotion in the country including Ring of Honor on Direct TV HDNET and Chikara .

Always looking to get better while training with the likes of Ring of Honor school, trainer Mark Sterling, took the opportunity to train at Harley Race’s World League Wrestling Academy and their annual WLW/Pro Wrestling Noah camp.

The hard work would earn him the prestigious title of being named the 2009 Pro Wrestling Illustrated rookie of the year. Several of the names in the past to be honored with his award are Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Bob Backlund, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton.

His work ethic and professionalism made Sydal a must see draw all around the Midwest when he would return to the area. Great matches at 3XW, Metro Pro Wrestling ,MMWA-SICW and all around the Midwest was just one of the many reasons why the MWR awards committee’s chose Mike Sydal to be named the 2010 MWR Wrestler of the year.
