Wrestling fans in Illinois should be thrilled about this coming Saturday’s All American Pro Wrestling’s Main Event”. Let’s take a look at just 10 reasons why you should take the trip to Marion, Illinois whether you are from Marion or you are a fan that lives in St Louis. In no specific order and to be honest I could have done more than 10 reasons why you should join us.

1)      First Show of the year! With the weather looking to be great, why not take the kids out to the park during the day then come in when it gets dark and cold as all of your favorite All American Pro Wrestling Stars action is sure to be hard hitting and heated. AAPW has an Awesome card filled with some of the best stars in Illinois and around the World. Don’t be the only fan at work on Monday who did not make the biggest show in AAPW history.

2)      “3G” Eric Wayne to meet former WWE, ROH and a NWA World Champion – The third generation AAPW star Eric Wayne was set to meet ROH World Champion Davey Richards this past fall. Due to contract issues that match never happen. Wayne has been in the sport since 2006 and has had a taste of TNA and WWE in past. A win against the respected and VERY entertaining “BOOM BOOM” Colt Cabana could send a message to AAPW management that he is ready for a rematch against AAPW Champion Edmund “Livewire” McGuire that is if you don’t see him on your TV on Monday or Thursday nights.

3)      “The Generic Luchador” El Generico vs. “The Man Gravity Forgot” PAC– Both of these wrestlers have traveled around the world. They have met in the past in thrilling battles that fans have raved about. Let’s take a look at

4)      FREE STUFF: One lucky fan in attendance will walk away with two tickets to the WWE Royal Rumble in St. Louis The fan who travels the farthest to attend Main Event will receive an AAPW prize pack.

Photobucket

Christopher Hagstrom and the AAPW staff has been proactive in building a close relationship with their fans in 2011, in 2012 they will be running on all cylinders with great matches to start the year along with awesome promotions for their fans at the shows, on their website, and on facebook. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

MWR Fans be sure to be a fan of AAPW on FACEBOOK as they have been doing prize packs when they reach 800, 900 and 1,000 fans. Be a part of the growth of one of the Midwest hottest promotions in 2012.

5)      Pokerface Open Challenge–  One of the hottest stars in AAPW is the undefeated Pokerface. How good is he? In October, he was able to get a victory from the 2011 MWR Wrestler of the Year Brandon Espinosa in an exciting match-up.

Photobucket

The All American feels the explosive knees from Pokerface. Can anyone step to and defeat Pokerface? Join us this Saturday to find out. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

While MWR has not been liked his arrogance and attitude towards fans we cannot deny the talent this young star possess. Who will step to meet the challenge of Pokerface? Be there to cheer on the man who will look to end the undefeated streak!

Heath Hatton and Curly tenure as a AAPW tag team Champs has come to an end. Can Heath Hatton fly alone to success?? (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

6)      Bad blood and grudges boil over as Heath Hatton looks to get revenge on “Golden Boy” Greg Anthony.  Heath Hatton is one star that MWR has on the radar in 2012, in 2011 he along with fan favorite Curly won the AAPW Tag titles and feuded with Anthony and his tag partner “Serial Thriller” Shane Rich. Each man would find themselves alone as an injury would take out Shane Rich, while AAPW would fire Curly but this would not cool off the tension between these two.

Photobucket

Hatton has been on the search to work with the very best in the past couple of months as he has made appearances with both Harley Race’s WLW and Ohio Valley Wrestling. This could be his biggest match to date (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Last month Heath Hatton was forced to defend them alone against Team Overkill, and showed true heart in his efforts against Matt Cage and Christian Rose but it would be Greg Anthony who would cost him his tag team titles.

Now Hatton is ready to teach the veteran Anthony a lesson in respect. MWR has always enjoy Anthony here with his own article aptly named “The Golden Circle” in the past we do not condone his actions to this rising star and will be hoping that Hatton can do his wish.

Photobucket

In the past the Golden Boy Greg Anthony has used illegal help from his good friend Shane Rich, here rookie Aiden Young gets blasted from Anthony after Rich harassed him throughout the match. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

That may be easier said than done, Anthony who will be the first to tell you that he “Is the best of the best” and has the credentials to prove it. Down south he has been honored by the former website Rasslin Riot as the 2011 Wrestler of the Year, one half of a former Tag Team of the Year and been involved in the 2011Match of the year.

Photobucket

Shane Rich has been injured and has joined the AAPW announcing crew, but Anthony knows all the tricks in the book and looks to make life hell for the young rising star Heath Hatton. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Anthony has formed a successful tag team with NWA/WCW star  Bobby Eaton with manager Brian Thompson are called Midnight Gold.

In singles and tag competition he  has captured wins against a who’s who in the sport including Jerry Lawler, Jerry Lynn, Buff Bagwell, Jay Lethal, Bill Dundee, Rock N Roll Express, Reggie B Fine, New Age Outlaws, Billy Gunn, Tracy Smothers, Flash Flanagan, and JC ICE.

Mike Masters!! (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

7)      Kevin Hunsperger needs your support!!  MWR fans know Kevin as the play-by-play commentator for “Collision” and anchor of “News 3 This Morning” on WSIL TV. A great guy who has a true love for the sport. On the other side of the ring will be “The Masterpiece” Mike Masters.

Photobucket

Masters was on a roll early ion in his match with “Dynamite” Seth Knight but came out on the losing end, will look to take his frustrations out and bully our friend and AAPW announcer Kevin Hunsperger. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Masters is a perennial threat to the AAPW Championship in the past and pound for pound one of the best wrestlers in the Midwest. So how did Kevin get involved in a match with the AAPW Superstar Mike Master’s?  Let’s take a look.

Photobucket

The 2011 MWR Female Wrestler Stacey O’Brien was so excited and appreciative when she was offered to be a part of AAPW’S “Main Event” when we saw her around Christmas time. Yet one thing is AAPW did not make it easy in the least when they brought in her former rival Rebecca Raze. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

8)      See the 2011 MWR Female Wrestler of the Year Stacey O’Brien in action and receive her plaque from MWR’S Diva Dubray Tallman:  It has been over four years since AAPW has hosted a women’s match inside the square circle. The fans asked for their return and AAPW has delivered with one of the Midwest finest Stacey O’Brien.  O’Brien was the first ever MWR Female of the Year and has returned from injury to regain her spot as the top women in the Midwest with great matches against Lucy Mendez, Santana G, Miss Natural and MsChif.

While this award may be a great honor for the hard working woman who now trains with Harley Race at the Harley Race Wrestling Academy in Eldon Missouri, she now has a target on her back. Just as rap legend 2Pac sang during his peak “All eye’s on me” O’Brien is now the hunted.

Photobucket

Rebecca Raze

The first young women to try to make a name for herself will be a former foe, Rebecca Raze. It has been over 4 years since the two have met but one thing is for sure that they do not like each other in the least. The name Rebecca Raze could be one that you are not aware of but don’t discount her skills and her desire to knock O’Brien off the top of the women’s division.

During the night we are honored that AAPW has invited us to present the “Boston Brawler” with her 2011 MWR Female Wrestler of the Year Plaque and support women’s wrestling at AAPW.

9)      See tag team wrestling the way it was meant to be: While newly crowned AAPW Tag Team Champions Matt Cage and Christian Rose of Team Overkill used some legal loopholes to get out of a title defense at Main Event AAPW has offered the fans a great tag match that could have ramifications for the rest of 2011.

Photobucket

The Money Makin Jam Boyz. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

The former 3-time AAPW Tag Team Champions the Money Makin Jam Boyz the Mississippi Madman and KC Jackson take on Roscoe Dwayne Harris and Jimmy Wayne Fargo otherwise known as the Convoy. Will the weight and power of Harris and Fargo be an advantage against the MMJB’s Jackson or will the Jackson be able to wear out the fearsome twosome and set them up for the Madman’s finisher the Fifth floor?

The winner of this match at AAPW’S Main event will earn a tag team title shot in the future.

10)   Two years ago, Missouri Wrestling Revival announced the very first MWR Trading Cards. The set was produced to bring recognition to the wrestlers in the Midwest and the MWR site. From the very first featuring the tag team the Northstar Express, we have done our best to deliver you the fans with a great card that catches your favorites wrestlers in action.

Photobucket

At the end of the year we were at #60 in the set that includes the current Ring of Honor World Champion Davey Richards, former champ Eddie Edwards, Jimmy Jacobs and MsChif to former WWE Stars and Champions Trevor Murdock, U-Gene) EUGENE), former D-X member Road Dogg along with Hall of famers such as Larry Zbyszko, Dave Hebner and Larry Matysik.

With #60 we were excited to have the one and only “Generic Luchador” El Generico to be a part of this wonderful collection.  To the best of my knowledge this will be the first time that MWR fans will have a chance to get their card autographed from the masked man himself in the MWR coverage area. El Generico is one of the most traveled wrestlers in the sport as he is a star with Ring of Honor and has taken tours around the world so fans do not miss this rare chance to see him in action and have you #60 MWR El Generico card signed.

Though we are always excited to add ROH and former  WWE, WCW, and NWA stars to the set, our favorites are the stars of the Midwest that thrill us each and every weekend in the Midwest.

Photobucket

Many of these men and women are the future of the sport as during our two years we have featured two Pro Wrestling Illustrated Rookies of the years in three cards. First we have the 2009 PWI Rookie of the Year as well as the 2010 MWR Wrestler of the Year Mike Sydal.  Sydal the brother of WWE Star Evan Bourne was featured in two cards, first the sold out card of #5 and then we provided an update of Sydal with the #37.

The most recent wrestler to be name the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Rookieof the Year is Ace Hawkins. We were excited to have this high flying star as the man who graced the # 55 card.

Both of these men have been in action at AAPW in the past but will not be there next week but you will be able to get your hands on the following cards and hopefully have them signed from them during the evening.

#38 Stacey O’Brien and # 43 The Mississippi Madman are two of our favorites. The Madman has been both the AAPW Champion as well as an AAPW Tag Champion.

Photobucket

One of the most charismatic wrestlers in the Midwest, he is always a fan favorite.  This will be a great opportunity to meet all three of these stars to have your cards signed.

Photobucket

We love him here at MWR as does the AAPW faithful , he is the AAPW Champion with a familiar foe breathing down his throat, “The Old school Warrior” Ax Allwardt.(Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Photobucket

“The Old school Warrior” Ax Allwardt has his chance to become the AAPW Champion for the first time at AAPW’S Main Event. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

That is 10 reasons and we never did get to the main event between AAPW Champ Edmund McGuire and “Old School Warrior” Ax Allwardt. This match that could be featured on any main event in the country today and it will be right here in the Midwest next weekend.

Photobucket

Jay Spade has no fear as he goes to the rafters to get an edge. Spade is just one of the young stars that you will be seeing for years to come in the sport. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Photobucket

Always one to love himself, it is the Playboy Paul Rose. Rose never fails to entertain us and will be in action this weekend!! (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Plus stars such as Jay Spade, Bull Bronson, and “Playboy” Paul Rose will be in action during the night as well . So join MWR for a fun filled night full of action as well as many surprises during the night.

Mike Sydal presented with the 2010 MWR Wrestler of the Year Plaque

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 18, 2011

Photobucket

Fans around the country have fallen in love with “Rock and Roll” Mike Sydal. The brother to WWE Superstar Evan Bourne said it best during his presentation of the MWR Wrestler of the year plaque, “In 1998 MWR ranked him the number 98 in the MWR 100 wrestlers in the Midwest and two years later I was named the MWR Wrestler of the year.

Sydal would not just sit back and live off the name of his brother. From the start of his career Sydal went on the road to earn the reputation of one of the top young stars in pro wrestling today. Sydal would spent the next two years traveling around the country looking for the top competition in almost every respectful promotion in the country including Ring of Honor on Direct TV HDNET and Chikara .

Always looking to get better while training with the likes of Ring of Honor school, trainer Mark Sterling, took the opportunity to train at Harley Race’s World League Wrestling Academy and their annual WLW/Pro Wrestling Noah camp.

The hard work would earn him the prestigious title of being named the 2009 Pro Wrestling Illustrated rookie of the year. Several of the names in the past to be honored with his award are Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Bob Backlund, Kurt Angle and Randy Orton.

His work ethic and professionalism made Sydal a must see draw all around the Midwest when he would return to the area. Great matches at 3XW, Metro Pro Wrestling ,MMWA-SICW and all around the Midwest was just one of the many reasons why the MWR awards committee’s chose Mike Sydal to be named the 2010 MWR Wrestler of the year.

MWR Exclusive: Some of the Midwest best train at Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville Kentucky

Posted by flairwhoooooo on December 20, 2010

By Brian Kelley – Missouri Wrestling Revival Owner and Editor
All photos from Mike Van Hoogstraat

The world of wrestling is full of talented wrestlers that thrill fans each and every weekend around the country. With hopes and dreams to become household names, the chances are slim.

Today with reality TV and the sport being so open for anyone from models to actors to get in the ring , there are many people that go out to become a wrestler. Some of them have the dedication and talent to excel in the sport while others get a moment in the spotlight that others should well receive.

I am just one man but I feel very strongly that a wrestler that wants to make their dreams come true then they will have to stay active. The first order is to find proper training from the best like Harley Race’s Wrestling Academy in Eldon Missouri.

Then once you get “trained” a wrestler has to understand that WWE, TNA or ROH is not going to come find them, you have to make yourself known to them. Staying active, making sure you are at the gym, working on conditioning working shows, selling yourself at all times.

It could take years and there will is sure to be disappointments along the way. The truth of the matter is that your dream of making it “ big” may never happen.

If you are an aspiring wrestler, I highly recommend you stay positive and always learning. Finding ways to get your name out there in a positive light and always be in shape, always be ready to steal the show.

Recently my good friend and MWR photographer Mike Van Hoogstraat had the honored to be able cover Ohio Valleys’ tryout in Louisville Kentucky.

The camp was filled with influential and some of the great minds in the business including OVW’S Danny Davis, Rip Rogers, Nick “Eugene” Dinsmore and none other than Jim Cornette and former WWE wrestler Mike Mondo who has recently made appearances this month with Ring of Honor.

Some of the very best in the Midwest made their way from DES Moines , to Kansas City to ST Louis and in between took advantage of this two day camp.

In attendance were the reigning MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling. Sterling is currently a double champion holding the NWA Central States title as well as one half of the WLW Tag titles with “Superstar” Steve Fender.

Wrestling fans around the world know the name Evan Bourne who has electrified the WWE. His brother Mike Sydal has not just sat around waiting for a phone call just because he has a brother who is a star. No Sydal has wrestled around the country ,taking part in the annual WLW/NOAH camp while earning the 2009 PWI Rookie of the Year award. He has continued his momentum in 2010 be a part of the Chikara’s 2010 Young Lions Cup. Sydal would train at the ROH training facility

The hard work would pay off as fans around the world would be able to see him on ROH HDNET in matches with stars such as Tyler Black, Christopher Daniels and Kyle O’Reilly.

Sir Bradley Charles is a man that everyone at MWR is all a buzz about. A great look, mixed with a desire to be the best. SBC trained at the  Lance Storm Wrestling Training Academy. Since then SBC has already wrestled in Canada and Australia. In Kansas City he has been earning a Kings welcome home at Metro Pro Wrestling.

MWR Fans in the Midwest are familiar with the “Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell. Rockwell has been a former 2 t-time 3XW Pure Champion as well as the current MECW Independent Champion.

Dave Vaughn is a name that many fans know in St Louis. The wrestling machine took the skills learned from taking part in the WLW/Noah camp in 2009 to parlay that into his first MMWA-SICW Championship. Vaughn was a dominate champion until being upset from “The Future” Donovan Ruddick with a little help from Brandon Espinosa and Travis Cook.

Zach Thompson has been a part of one of the most popular tag teams ever at 3XWrestling with Mike Sydal called the High Flyers. Thompson has also found success as a singles competitor at both 3XW being a Pure wrestling champion and a MECW Champion.

One of the most powerful men in the Midwest is “MEAN” Mason Beck. Beck stands a towering 6’5 and weighing 250 IBS. A powerful man with unlimited potential, he was last seen at PWE teaming up with “The Future” Donovan Ruddick with manager Mr. Late Nite to get a win against the PWE Champion The Mississippi Madman and former WWE’S Eugene.

The purpose of speaking on each of these men’s accomplishments is to highlight the fact that everyone of them are not just resting of them. They are doing all they can to be the best in the not only the Midwest but the world.

In this extended recap there are many students from around the country. At MWR, we do not each of the guys names that took part in the pictures but we hope they know that this post is a salute to them and their hard work.

In this feature you will see them work on the basics, moves and have some matches to show off their skills

Last but not least we would like to thank Mike Van Hoogstraat for sharing this with us and Ohio Valley Wrestling for the opportunity to show you how the professionals become the stars that we know them.

MWR exclusive interview with Metro Pro Wrestling’s Joe McDonald and Chris Gough

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 12, 2010

I am joined today with the men behind Metro Pro Wrestling, former Central States Wrestling promoter Joe McDonald and Chris Gough Last year Chris  produced the wrestling documentary KC on the Mat. Chris is a Mizzou grad with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. After college, he went to work as a television writer for World Wrestling Entertainment in Stamford, Connecticut. In 2004, Chris returned to his hometown to begin work as an anchor and reporter for Metro Sports in Kansas City.

Brian -Gentleman good to speak to the both on you today on the exciting news that Wrestling is about to come back to Kansas City. How did this adventure come to be?

Chris– I actually did a documentary last year called KC On the Mat, which looked at the historical look at Central States Wrestling. It aired here in the city and shortly after that I spoke with Joe about running shows here in Kansas City. I produce several shows on Metro Sports, an all sports channel in Kansas City, and eventually Joe and I spoke to the general manager of the station who gave us the green light to put together a wrestling show that will debut at Memorial Hall on June 5th. Two or three weeks after that we will air the Metro Pro Wrestling show on Metro Sports.

Joe –Chris had actually myspaced me prior to me leaving for California for my new job when I left CSW. I kinda blew him off because as a promoter you always get these guys who say “I am a former this or that” and you tend to go whatever. Thankfully in time we did get together.

Brian – Chris, please tell our readers your background in Pro Wrestling.

Chris – I was a lifelong wrestling fan who went to University of Missouri. In 1997 I got an internship with WWE, went back in 1998. After graduation I got full time job with WWE in 1999 where I started with WWE.com as a producer and did a show called Byte This and some other shows on the site. I then went on as a creative writer for WWE’S Monday Night RAW thorough 2003. After leaving the WWE I came home and took a job with Metro Sports as an Anchor/Producer.

Brian – Joe, At one time you were a wrestler tell us about that and how long did you run Central States Wrestling?

Joe – We ran for five years, prior to that I joined a school called the Monster factory based out of New Jersey. I begged my parents’ and they said “as long as your grades stay up”. I trained in 95, my junior year in high school and I didn’t really get a very good training, but I hit the road and did shows in ST Louis for next to no pay. There was also a promotion based out of Wichita Kansas that had weekly TV. That was a lot of fun as Derek Stone and Ace Steel where also there. That tells you how long I have known Stone (LAUGHS).

I was too young to wrestle in Missouri until July of 1996 because I wasn’t 18.  To be honest I was not a very good wrestler. When I began promoting, I wrestled at times but I didn’t want to put myself over at the expense of the guys. It got to the point where I had to come to terms that I was not nearly as good as the guys I was booking so I stopped wrestling and focused on being a promoter.

Brian – Joe, What have you been up to since you parted ways with Central States Wrestling?

Joe– I went to California working with TV shows and films, like Last Comic Standing and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. At the time I left there were a lot of things going on in my life, including the mentioned once in a lifetime opportunities. Once I got back home, I tried to jump start CSW but I didn’t have it left in me to do so. After the last CSW show I decided it would be best to take some time off and refresh my batteries. I don’t like to say I quit the wrestling business as I have kept up with what has been going on in the wrestling world, I just took a breather. And over the 12 months, Chris and I have been planning on making Metro Sports a successful wrestling promotion.

Brian – Joe, what do you take from your days at CSW?

Joe – There are no instructions on how to run a pro wrestling show. You learn by being on the road, what to do and not to do with the boys, How to treat the boys, the wrestlers always got paid by me. I never canceled shows, I made mistakes all of the time because I just did not know what to do.  I will say that I have learned from all of those mistakes and hopefully I do not make them again.

I take some of the credit of CSW but I cannot take it all. It was a collaborate effort by several hard working people. What I did was give them a place to work and we all relied on each other to get the job done.

Brian – What is the goals of Metro Pro Wrestling?

Chris – The goal for 2010 is to have a TV taping once a month. If it increases then that is great, but first things first get that first show done so that we get enough footage to provide an exciting program. We are hoping to have a 1 hour show each week on Metro Sports, weather or not its four or six weeks of tapings for our show.

Joe– We really don’t want to put the cart before the horse, we know that it will take 3 months before the TV really will provide the full benefit of advertisement. We are currently advertising Metro Pro Wrestling via print, Television, Radio ect , when the second TV taping airs we will have had two weeks of  shows on Metro Sports that will create a buzz and then by the third we will have ran 6 or so weeks of TV. By the fourth week we will hope to see a return on the exposure from TV.

Brian – Will all shows be at the Memorial Hall?

Chris – For the time being that will be where the shows will be ran. Memorial Hall provides us with a great venue with a historic feel for our debut. Excellent lighting and a superb sound system will give the fans at the show that special feel and those watching at home that professional look.  But Brian it’s like all business it comes down to money. If the fans show that there is interest by coming, we would love our shows to be there all of the time but if financially it doesn’t make sense to run shows there we will pull back and find other venues that we have scoped out.

Joe – If we didn’t have TV we would be running an armory or high school gym, to be honest without TV I don’t know if I would have given this another try….well I can’t say that, but it surely wouldn’t be on such a grand scale. Without TV there is only so far that you can go in Indy wrestling.

When I started CSW I borrowed ten thousand dollars. Out of that, six of it went into buying a ring while the other four went towards running shows. I ran for several years on that and then took on a partner. We tapped out at CSW, we got to the point where we had a show with AJ Styles we had four hundred people and that was as big as it got in Lawrence Kansas. Now we are in Kansas City, it’s a lot bigger than Lawrence. We now have a bigger fan base to draw from, TV and two guys that have industry specific background to both wrestling and TV. We most defiantly are not doing this to fail, we feel as if we have all the tools in place to succeed.

Brian – Who should the fans expect to see at Metro Pro Wrestling local and nationally?

Chris – The first show fans will get to see ECW Original’s Tommy Dreamer and “the King of the Streets” Angel,

along with 3 time WWE Tag team Champion Trevor Murdoch. We want to bring in the establish star to bring in the casual fans that don’t follow the Indy’s. It’s always good to bring them in but we also will be showcasing some of the top talent in the Midwest. Joe knows the local talent as well as anyone.

Joe – Yes, I hate to go back to the past but what I set up to do with CSW was to bring up all the local talent from Kansas City, St Louis, Missouri, Iowa, or just so simply the best in Midwest under one roof, just as Ring Of Honor had done. We had a great run with Michael Strider and Mark Sterling.

2009 MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling (Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat)

This isn’t going to be a CSW retread, certainly we will use some of the guys that I am comfortable with. Mark Sterling for instance is in my opinion one of the best wrestlers in country right now. The man lives and breathes pro Wrestling. Jeremy Wyatt I put him in that category as well.

I have known Matt Sydal (Evan Bourne) since day one and when his brother Mike Sydal told him he wanted to learn how to wrestle Matt told him to go see the guys (Strider and Sterling) in Kansas to learn.

The 2009 MWR Tag team of the Year the Hooligans will make their debut in Kansas City . ((Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat)

The Hooligans, who I have only seen on tape. Chris actually found them on your site and called me and said you need to check these guys out. I looked at a couple of matches of theirs on YouTube. They were awesome, they have that “it” factor. You can attest to that Brian, you have been around them a lot; I have only dealt with them via phone and e-mail. I called Sterling and Wyatt who I trust to get their thoughts on their work. They vouched that they were for real and that was good enough for me.

Angel and Domino Rivera were two guys I had teamed up at last few CSW shows I ran and had big plans for. Chris and I feel like they can make an impact.

The Mississippi Madman (Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat)

The Mississippi Madman is someone that has a ton of charisma we believe that the fans will get behind.

The Ultra talented Jaysin Strife (Photo Credit Gary Giaffoglione)

Jaysin Strife, I have always been a big fan of as well. We are not a closed door company. If we see someone that we feel that the fans will enjoy and can help Metro Sports we will take a good look at them.

Nate Bash and Benjamin Sailer are a tag team that I am excited about being a part of the company. I feel as if we are really stacked in the tag division and have a heavy emphasize in tag teams.

Brian – Let me ask you Chris you have been with WWE who many feel have diminished tag teams in the past few years. Are you excited about tag teams as much as Joe?

Chris – Before we go any further let’s not forget we dragged Michael Strider out of retirement so fans will most defiantly have that to look forward to. That guy is willing to do anything. But he was done. When Joe first approached him about Metro Pro, Strider wasn’t going to do it. He was enjoying his life off the road. But we told him the game plan and it stoked that flame. As far as tag teams go your right it was a pretty dead deal down there. Granted there were some great teams during the Invasion with the Dudley’s, The Hardy’s Edge and Christina with some exciting matches with ladders.  That seemed to be the last real run with teams other than just throwing two guys together.  Anyone growing up in the 80’s remembers how big the tag teams were in the WWE and NWA. Myself I am a big fan of a team when they get together and hit their moves and work as a team, you just done see that in the Big two err one.

We didn’t set out to focus so strongly on tag teams but it just so happens that we are fortunate that we have talented guys who happen to team up. I believe that many fans on the Indy scene love tag team wrestling so I hope that it will be a big draw for us.

Brian – Chris, what kinda style should fans see at Metro Pro Wrestling? With the debut of Tommy Dreamer will be see old style ECW Wrestling or WWE/ECW? What style do you prefer?

Chris– My background is WWE and that’s the style I worked with, did I agree with everything no but no company is perfect. I know that WWE takes a lot of slack for what they do but a lot of that has to do with over saturation. With WWE TV storylines need to go so fast because of the amount of shows that need to be done. Sometimes it can take away from what you are doing.

Here at Metro will “Extreme” be the norm? No. Will there be guys that have that in their background and at times will that be sprinkled in sporadically. Yes. As a fan I was a big fan of ECW and still have fond memories of them. The problem is that the style trickled up towards the WWE and every match feature blood in the first match, people jumping off 40 foot ladders. Nothing could top it so it meant less.

What we hope to do with Metro Pro Wrestling on TV is character development. I am all for pure pro wrestling in the ring and we will have that but it’s not so much the storyline that matters as much as is it is for the fans to care for the wrestlers to make the storylines mean anything. I feel as if that is what is lacking in wrestling on TV. I am not going to say I know how to do it better than the next guy but I do know going into this that the wrestlers will have an opportunity to shine on TV. From the top to bottom they are going to be able get their name out to the casual fan.

Joe– Too put it in perspective I was once told by a very smart guy and I am sure he was told by another smart guy. Wrestling is like a three ring circus “You have to have your flyers, you have to have brawlers and you need have your freaks. You need to have something for everyone.”  We have to do a little bit of everything for this to succeed. Our balance will be found with the traditional wrestling fan that just likes wrestling but our job is to make the show interesting.

You hear a lot of older fans say that back in my day it wasn’t such a soap opera. But the truth is, it really was. There have always been stories in wrestling. Storylines have just adapted over the years to fit the current world climate. The beautiful thing about early ECW was that you had 2 or 3 matches on their show and the rest was you had advertisements for their next one. During the show you may have had one hardcore match – Tommy Dreamer going hardcore with Raven all over the arena. Then Psychosis and Rey Mysterio flying all around the ring then you had Dean Melenko and Eddie Guerrero in a mat classic.

I would like to see Metro be a little bit like that. You have storylines mixed with wrestling and in the end you have entertainment because of that.

Brian– Any last words for the MWR Fans

Joe – I hope that people give us a shot, come on out and I feel as if their money will be well spent. Come support the guys as we have household names mixed in with some guys we feel will be able to get to the next level. I hope people come to what we hope will become a successful endeavor in the wrestling area. I would also like to thank Martin Thomas for letting us use the CSW Library. That was a really cool thing of him to do.

“The Manager of Champions” Travis Cook looks to lead Donovan Ruddick to WWE or TNA!!

Could Donovan Ruddick and Travis Cook be the new face of Pro Wrestling? (Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat)

Last night Missouri Wrestling Revival was on hand at MMWA-SICW to honor them with the 2009 MWR Promotion of the Year Plaque. As big of a story as that was it would be the ramifications in the MMWA-SICW title match between the Champion Dave Vaughn and the former Champion Phil E Blunt that would steal the headlines.

Blunt was DQ’d and his manager Travis Cook jumped into the ring to double team Vaughn. Thankfully Donovan Ruddick would enter the ring to make the save….or so it would seem. After holding back Travis Cook and Blunt , Ruddick took the belt from them then laid out Vaughn!!!

On the night that was to be a celebration for MMWA-SICW it would Travis Cook who would be having the most fun. Cook now has one of the most respected and feared wrestlers in the Midwest today “The Future” Donovan Ruddick in his stable “The Connection”.

TNA and WWE in 2010 will have showcased to the world PPV’s in St Louis with WWE’S Elimination Chamber and this month’s TNA Lockdown, the show me state is now a hotbed for Pro Wrestling. Add on the fact that ST Louis Talent Randy Orton and Evan Bourne have became major players it is without a doubt that the both companies will be wanting to catch the next big star in the Midwest.

One can not take away the power and reputation that “The Manager of Champions” Travis Cook will not have a say in who will be given the opportunity to be the next superstar in Pro Wrestling Today.

In an interesting twist Cook did not make any friends on this evening when he showed his clout in Ron Powers match as he was set to take on Billy Diamond and Bobby D in a handicap match. Before the match could begin Cook demanded that Powers show Ed Monihan (from the state Athletic Commission) a current Missouri Wrestling license. Powers licenses were infact not up to date therefore Powers was unable to compete. Words were exchanged between the two with Powers chasing Cook to the back. Powers returned to the ring to let Cook and the fans to know that Illinois isn’t a commission state so he WILL be at MMWA-SICW when they return in East Carondolet, IL next Saturday for the battle royal.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines-based 3XWrestling (3XW) is proud to announce the addition of two national wrestling stars to its Clobberpalooza Classic II event on Sept. 18 at the Des Moines Social Club.

Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) superstar Al Snow, a widely-known veteran of professional wrestling and multiple-time champion, has signed to compete in the main event of 3XW’s Clobberpalooza Classic II. Snow will challenge “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt, the 2008 Missouri Wrestling Revival “Wrestler of the Year,” for the 3XW Heavyweight championship in one of the year’s most anticipated matches.

Neil “Diamond” Cutter is a One of a kind.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 13, 2009

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

Today there are many high profile second and third generation superstars dominating the wrestling landscape. Cowboy Bob Orton’s son WWE World Champion Randy Orton is at the top of the list along with Ted Dibiase’s son Ted JR who is a tag team partner of former NWA World Champion Dusty Rhodes youngest son Cody form the team known as “The Legacy”. The Midwest also has there eyes on Curt Hening’s son Joe and his daughter Amy as they have got their start in the area with Wrestling Legend Harley Race.

Families and wrestling have a special bond throughout the history of the sport. Throughout the years fans have watched in excitement as the families of the Von Erich’s, The Harts, The Guerrero’s and The Funk’s have brought tears of joy, sadness and at times hatred in the eyes of the special fraternity called “fans”.

This leads us to the Cutters, Devin and Mason Cutter. Two Brothers that have been in the thorn of Midwest wrestlers who have faced them just as days long gone by, when the brothers Frank and Jesse James terrorized the government who they felt had gave them no choice but to fight back. The James Gang were known as outlaws whereas the Cutlers are known as The Hooligans.

The Hooligans (Photo By Brian "Flair" Kelley)

The Hooligans (Photo By Brian "Flair" Kelley)

What is a Hooligan you ask? I caught up with Devin and Mason and Mason gave me a thorough explanation “We are known as The Hooligans, we represent a society called Skinheads. That does not mean we are racists because we are not. We proudly come from the working class where you take pride in hard work. Skinhead means that we stand up against a government that is slowly taking apart a society that once belonged to the working class. We will strap on our boots and march with our fellow working men and stomp out these fascists governments. In the end we will finally give the power back to the people the way it was meant to be.” he continued to say “United we stand in this movement, united we will stomp the oppressors out. We are not a gang, just brothers black and white we stand and fight, we fly no colors, our torn up knuckles and faded blue jeans are the colors we wear. We don’t need no gang to watch our ass just loyal friends from the working class. Arm and arm we fight as one. We should be labeled as the men and women that have built this society from scratch. We should be known simply as WORKING CLASS HEROES!!

Midwest fans have been watching The Hooligans join together as family going to war with Ian Rotten at IWA. What one may have missed is that there is a third Cutter.

The black sheep of the family - Neil Diamond Cutter(Photo Credit Brian "Flair" Kelley)

The black sheep of the family - Neil Diamond Cutter(Photo Credit Brian "Flair" Kelley)

His name is Neil “Diamond” Cutter, one would say he is a little on the strange side. While the Devin and Mason were planning and plotting on how to take a stand against the oppression in this politically correct world, “Lil” Cutter was in the back room listening to Neil Diamond classics, “Sweet Caroline” and “Kentucky Women” blaring much to the disdain of the Cutter family.

Mason Cutter confirmed this with displeasure in his voice. Neil would always be listening to those damn Neil Diamond cds all night. It drives us crazy. Mason Cutter

I was able to catch up with Neil at a recent Independent  Hardcore Wrestling show in Dupo, Illinois to get his thoughts on his brothers and there upcoming match in the semi title tournament match for the High Voltage Wrestling tag team titles to question weather he would be in the house to support his brothers all he could talk about was the BIG NEWS!!

Neil Diamond had his first ever online store!!?? Yes, now he can buy all his Diamond merchandise at one spot. The little Cutler was quite pleased with himself as he explained to me that “You can get all your Neil Diamond merchandise From the Neil Diamond messenger bag to the Brand new Neil Diamond album The Home Before Dark Deluxe Edition CD which features two BONUS tracks and a second DVD disc with up close and personal footage of the new music. Neil proudly stated “Brian, Don’t Buy it anywhere but from the online store because there you can get the free Neil Diamond Poster!”

With great advice from Neil withstanding, one can not discount the talent of the runt of the family. Fearlessness and toughness have never been in question from Neil, he showed that this April at IWA’S Bloodshowers part one when he assisted his brothers to get the win against the hardcore brothers known as Bad Breed, Ian and Axl Rotten in a Barbed Wire- match.

Neil’s single’s debut at IWA was against up and comer Juice Robinson. Neil must have stayed up late jamming to Neil’s classic “Walk on water” because no matter what he did he crashed and burned with the young pretty boy taking home the win, while his brothers Devin and Mason looked back in disgust.

”I don’t understand Neil Diamond music and even less as to why Neil loves it so damn much.” Devon Cutter

Wrestlers should not let Neil’s odd behavior or his size fool them. He is one of the most fearless wrestlers in the Midwest today. Going into the match with the youngest and smallest Cutler looks to be a cakewalk. When the bell rings he has the ability to use his body like a missile hitting you from every direction. When Neil goes to the top rope and comes down on you with such great height the downward momentum feels like he hit you with a sledgehammer.

Ian Rotten stood up for the lil Cutter at the show , “Truth Justice, and the IWA way” when he stated firmly “Neil has a bigger pair of balls than both of the Hooligans combined!”

Watch out for Neil’s Bombs Away”. While his opponent is down on their hands and knees thinking that it is safe , Neil runs onto their back and jumps straight up to delivers a pain full senton bomb. Explosive and deadly, Neil is always looking to hit one of the many versions of his Diamond Cutter for the win which he calls D.N.D (Dedication to Neil Diamond).

Neil may not be a household name today but this journalist has been around the MWR coverage area scouting talent and he is what you would call a sleeper. A poor mans Evan Bourne, Neil has some of the raw skills that the WWE’S Bourne possesses. Neil shocked the Midwest when he was able to get the biggest win in his short career this past May at IWA Mid-South when he defeated one of the top 5 stars in the Midwest Mark Sterling by delivering the patented D.N.D. Just a small glimpse of what the little guy can do.

In a world where big men rule the ring Neil’s breathtaking moves have the chance to steal the show and the spotlight at any event. Even from his big brothers who look down on him as he tries to show them that he is worthy of the Cutter name.

I will leave you with a request from Neil “Diamond” Cutter himself. MWR fans (I never thought I would be saying this) I give you Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline…..
