Going back to their home base, Lethal Wrestling Alliance had a number of high profile matches for the 115 fans to look forward to at the Knights of Columbus Hall in House Springs, MO, but none more exciting than LWA Champion “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt versus Dingo. But of greater importance as the show kicked off was the fact that Dr. Katz, a doctor Jewells hired, said that a number of the stars were unable to compete.
‘Future’ Donovan Ruddick, Gary the Barnowl, XXX Jordan Lacey, Shorty Biggs and Billy McNeil all came to ringside complaining about Dr. Katz’s unusual diagnosis respective of each individual. K.C. Karrington then came out and said that he got a fax on his portable fax machine from Katz stating that he could not wrestle either.
LWA President Luke Roberts addressed the situation and called Katz to ringside to reveal some disturbing information about the so-called doctor. According to Roberts, Katz had three counts of downloading child porn against him, two counts of assumming another person’s identity and 36 counts of have sex with farm animals. Upon the release of this information, Jewells revealed that she made the athletes unable to compete because they are all worthless and do not deserve to be in the main event, let alone in the ring. Roberts allowed all of the men to compete that evening and announced that when LWA returns to House Springs on Feb. 21, Lacey and Ruddick will take on Wyatt and Jewells.
Mike Sydal took on the returning Tyler Cook in the first bout of the evening. Before the match truly got underway, Cook made a comment about Sydal’s body glitter, to which Sydal replied, “I sparkle because I have such a bright future in this business.” Cook controlled the first portion of the match and had Sydal down but only for a two count. Sydal soon turned the tide, but when he missed a high impact move, he gave Cook a chance to gain momentum, which did not last long. Sydal used his wit to steal a win with a roll-up and holding the tights for extra leverage.
Commissioner Adam Raw ventured to the ring to lay down some ground rules for the upcoming six-man tag match and call the Bearded Men and the Submission Squad to ringside. Raw decided that the losing team had to break up and that they will never team together again. He then goes even further, saying that each team must pick a captain—Billy McNeil and Pierre Abernathy were named—and the captain of the losing team would never be seen in LWA again. The commissioner’s final statement was that the match would be no disqualification.
Getting back to the action, Dorian Victor wrestled Shorty Biggs, continuing their feud. These two men took the fight to each other, but the fans did not take to this match as much as their previous battles. At one point, Victor locked Biggs in a double-leg Boston crab, but Biggs reached the ropes. Victor did his best to keep Biggs down, but he could not do so for much longer, as Biggs his Victor with a boot followed by the Shortcut for the victory. Biggs then got revegne on Victor for previous low blows by returning the favor.
Up next was the No-DQ six-man tag match. Davey Vega, Pierre Abernathy and Evan Gelistico have been hellbent on ending the Bearded Men’s stable from the beginning. However, Jordan Lacey, Billy McNeil and Gary the Barnowl would not go down without a fight. All of these men fought for their lives, so to speak, as they brawled in and out of the ring. At one point, McNeil, Lacey and Gary had their opportunity—in succession—to launch across the ring and plant the Submission Squad to the ground. There was chaos everywhere, with neither team gaining a clear advantage. Near the end of the match, Gelistico threw Gary to the outside, and Gary landed hard on the ring entrance and Lacey was smashed through a table.
The match ended with Abernathy pinning Gary, but Abernathy had his feet on the ropes. Much to the dismay of the fans, the Bearded Men had to break up, but before the Submission Squad went to the back, Gelistico revealed that McNeil had taken him to Space Station Eleven and made clones of himself, one of which being Super Electro. He then went on to say that he is Gary’s father. Looking confused and upset, Gary left with the Submission Squad as McNeil thanked the LWA fans for the last time.
At intermission, LWA’s own “Spoiled” Steven Kennedy played with his band, Noiseland, much to the delight of the crowd. Noiseland played some original songs and a couple of covers. Kennedy brought Karrington out as a guest band member playing the spoons.
Before getting back to the matches, Ring Announcer Paul Parker called Roberts and Raw to ringside. Roberts had many ideas to make LWA better. Starting at the next show, bell time will be 7:00 instead of 7:30, ticket prices will be reduced on a permanent basis and beer may become only 50 cents. He also stated that he needs someone who bleeds LWA and is a former champion. Raw ruled out the choices of Frankie Big Balls, Mag Dog Dafronian and Nick Tyson, and then announced that Dingo v. Wyatt would change to a Jefferson County/House Springs Street Fight.
The Ego Express defended their tag titles against B.A.B.E.WATCH (“Thee” Brandon Espinosa and “Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons) in one of the best matches of the night. B.A.B.E.WATCH has become the team to watch as the top contenders to the titles. Espinosa and Aarons did their best to come out on top, working more cohesively than they have before. However, they were not able to capture the gold on this exchange, as Kennedy and Karrington’s experience as a tag team aided them in the end. Kennedy pinned Espinosa after the Fatality and decisively ended the bout.
Follwing the impressive tag match, Mark Sterling took on Shamus O’ Flannery in a one-sided affair. Every time O’ Flannery tried to gain an advantage, Sterling used his strength to overpower him. Nonetheless, O’ Flannery did attempt to wear down Sterling by attacking Sterling’s knee, but it was not enough. Sterling locked O’ Flannery in the Markshooter and O’ Flannery had no choice but to tap out.
LWA Champion Jeremy Wyatt was in for a brutal fight against Dingo. These two men beat the hell out of each other all around the building. Fans ran from their seats and scurried away from the competitors to ensure that they were not hit. Both men scored multiple pinfalls but still could not put the other one away. Dingo and Wyatt even went so far as to bring one of the light posts that surround the ring into the match. Dingo had the title won via submission, but just as Wyatt was about to tap, he poked the referee in the eye, injuring the ref, so that the tapout would not count. He then used his trickery to steal the win with a rollup and a handful of tights. By the time the match was over, Dingo was a bloody mess and Wyatt left with the smug satisfaction that he had defeated one of the best wrestler in the Midwest. Only mere moments after the devastating brawl, Ruddick emerged and gave Wyatt a spinebuster and layed the belt across a wounded Wyatt.
LWA will return to House Springs, MO with a new start time, lower ticket prices and a tag match that you will not want to miss.
High Voltage Wrestling Midwest was formed in July 2008 by Keny G and Frank Thurman. Keny had been trained by Dory Funk Jr. initially then mentored by Tyree Pride “Hatian sensation” He formed HVW in his home state of Florida and ran one of the top drawing shows in the state before moving to St. Louis.
Frank was trained by “The Human Wrecking Ball” Pete Madden in 1994-95 at The South Broadway Athletic Club Gym in St. Louis. Frank co-promoted his first show in 1997 in Collinsville, Ill. and has promoted shows off and on since then in cities like St. Louis [Illinois side], Springfield, Illinois and Peoria Illinois.
High Voltage Wrestling - Chaos is bound to happen.
The First HVW Midwest Live Event happened on October 4th in Granite City Illinois at The Rivers Edge Complex. This first event featured 7 matches including the first round of a tournament to crown the first ever HVW Midwest Champion. The first tournament match pitted seasoned veteran Adam Evans w/ Magic Man against Up and comer “Thee” Brandon Espinosa. They both fought valiantly but in the end a miscommunication between Magic and Adam saw Magic Accidentally burn his own man with a fire ball causing a DQ and allowing Brandon to advance. The second tournament match Featured The 6 ‘ 9″ Monster Donovan Ruddick taking on Florida independent Star Bobby Danger. Even though there was a huge size difference between the two it was an evenly fought contest. Bobby used his speed, agility and MMA experience to hold Ruddick at bay. But in the end Ruddick came out on top and advanced. The rest of the card featured the top talent from all over the Midwest including Gary Jay, Pierre Abernathy, Dacobra, Cecil Cerveza, Jon Divosi, The Bandana Mafia[Evan Gelistico, Davey Vega], Steven Kennedy, The Hybrids and more.

The second HVW Midwest event was on November 22nd also in Granite City, Illinois. The main event had Brandon Espinosa scheduled to face Donovan Ruddick to determine the first ever HVW Midwest Champion. Right before the match Started Magic Man came out with his new charge Kahagas and demanded that Kahagas be added to the match. He went on to explain how his man is a Champion in Florida, has wrestled all over the world and just that very evening he had defeated one of the top Midwest wrestlers in Jeremy Wyatt. Keny G allowed Kahagas into the match that turned out to be a barn burner. All three men fought valiantly, but during the course of the match Magic Man first stopped his man Kahagas from using his Kendo stick then later tripped him up. In the end Future with Magic Mans help became the first ever HVW Midwest Champion. There was also a grudge match between Keny G and Mephisto resulting from an incident at the first event. On Oct. 4th Keny was talking to the fans when Kris Synz came out bad mouthing Keny who then proceeded to take out the garbage that is Kris Synz. Mephisto then came out and he and Keny had a knock down drag out fight to the back. This set up this grudge match that was fought with intensity by both men, until Kris Synz came out and interfered causing a DQ. This brought out Keny’s new body guard Wicked Stiff Johnson who speared Synz into next week then clearing the ring of Mephisto too. There also another highly anticipated match featuring Dacobra taking on Mark Sterling. Both of these men are two of the best in the Midwest and they proved it by having a great back and fourth match that showed they deserved to be in the semi-main event.

Even though we have only had two events so far we are already proving ourselves to be one of the best promotions in St. Louis. How can we not be with some of the best wrestlers the Midwest has to offer as mentioned above along with some of the top tag teams including The Bandana Mafia, The Hybrids, The Chi-town Hit squad, The LONRs, Mike Sydal and Brett young, The Blackhearts and more. Be sure to keep track of HVW Midwest, because one thing we can promise is that it will be one wild ride.
With a crowd of 131 at the River’s Edge Complex in Granite City, IL, High Voltage Wrestling put on their first show of the new year on Jan. 10. Filled with surprise matches, a St. Louis wrestling legend and a bold statement from TNT Keny G regarding his cage match that night, this was one show that left fans begging for more.
Prior to the 7:30 bell time, Luke Roberts announced that a special bonus match would take place pitting Max Archer and Cory Pillman against Cabal and Michael Morbid. Archer and Pillman brought the fight to Cabal and Morbid, who made his debut in this match with his manager Alicia. Despite their best attempts, Morbid and Cabal lost the bout, and then Morbid attempted to take his rage out on his competitors. At one point, Morbid held a member of the opposing team for a chair shot delivered by Alicia, but Alicia inadvertently hit Morbid, seemingly causing him to snap.
TNT Keny G then came to ringside and stated that if the team of himself and Wicked lost the cage match that he would retire from active competition. He then brought attention to the Wrestling at the Chase legend, Larry Matysik. “Future” Donovan Ruddick felt the need to make his presence felt, as he and The Magic Man interrupted Keny G and announced Dingo as the replacement competitor for the injured Ruddick. This prompted Keny G to announce that Dingo and Ruddick will face each other at some point in the future (no pun intended).

Mark Smart then came to ringside and claimed that he wanted to wrestle Dingo. This prompted a brawl to erupt in which Smart and Dingo battled, then Kahagas and Mephisto emerged to make their respective presences felt.
In the first Livewire match of the night, “Spoiled” Steven Kennedy took on Gary Jay in a stellar performance. From their energetic entrances to the action going on in the ring, these two men delivered a high-flying bout that had fans on the edge of their seats. Hold for hold, Kennedy and Jay matched each other in skill, intensity and athleticism. Jay ended the contest with a decisive pin and then proclaimed that he and Kennedy just had the match of their lives.
Jessika Haze
Following two of the most charismatic wrestlers in the Midwest, Jessika Haze made her St. Louis area debut against New Breed Wrestling Alliance’s Serenity. The two women wrestled a fairly even match up, with neither cementing a definite advantage over the other. However, Haze was able to cover Serenity for the three count.

The Blackhearts took on Mark Sterling and “Number One” Brett Young due to the fact that Sterling’s partner, Darrien Sanders, had a broken foot. Sterling and Young began the match poking fun at the Blackhearts for wearing masks, and they put on mask of their own that Sterling provided. Soon, however, both teams began working towards the goal of securing a victory. Young and Sterling used their pound-and-ground style to combat the more unorthodox style of The Blackhearts. Regardless of not teaming together on a regular basis, Young and Sterling worked surprisingly well as a cohesive unit. Sterling got the pin after Young connected with a leg drop from the top rope.

After the intermission, “Thee” Brandon Espinosa took on Rebel Lucha, but before the two even locked up, Espinosa exclaimed, “Rebel Lucha? I thought I was wrestling Jeremy Wyatt!” Lucha and Espinosa had an impressive match with multiple pinfalls and reversals. Neither man gained enough of an advantage to cover the other for the full three count. With three minutes remaining, Espinosa and Lucha each stepped up their game, but the match ended in a time-limit draw as Espinosa’s tag team partner, Brandon Aarons, ran to the ring from the crowd and attacked Lucha.

Reigning Six-Man Cup Champions Aaron Matthews, Cecil Cerveza and stand-in member Jeff Harris defended the cup against The Bandana Mafia of Evan Gelistico, Pierre Abernathy and Davey Vega. With the fans solely behind the ‘Mafia, they had the advantage before the first move was made. Matthews, Cerveza and Harris beat down on Vega the majority of the match up with Cerveza and Matthews both taking risks and flying from the top turnbuckle. After a lenghty battle, Vega finally made the tag to Gelistico who tore the competition apart. After a double-team by Gelistico and Abernathy, Gelistico won the match for the ‘Mafia.

A match of the year contender took place next when Kahagas and Dingo went at it. These two tremendous athletes battled both in and out of the ring, with neither giving an inch. With Ruddick and Magic Man at ringside, Dingo had all the protection in the world. Despite Kahagas’ determination matching Dingo’s, the extra presences surrounding the ring more than likely led to his defeat. Ironically, Dingo seemed enraged after the bout and stormed around the building throwing chairs into the ring, and he even went so far as to carry a trashcan to the ring and dump it out. Still filled with fury, Dingo made his way through the crowd to the concessions, launched a roll of paper towels at Kahagas and yelled, “Clean up your act!”

Mephisto and Kris Synz sends TNT Keny G into retirement
Lethal Wrestling Alliance kicked off the New Year the right way with a crowd of 75 at the River’s Edge Complex in Granite City, IL, despite the lackluster crowd.
“Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons accompanied “Thee” Brandon Espinosa to the ring as Espinosa took on Dingo in a technically sound match. Dingo controlled the majority of the match up and did his best not to let Espinosa get the upper hand. Every time Espinosa tried to gain the advantage, Dingo put an immediate stop to it. Therefore, Dingo emerged victorious over one-half of cockiness personified.
Coming off an impressive first bout, Mephisto attempted to punish Adam Rich relentlessly, but to no avail. With the crowd behind Rich and completely against Mephisto, Rich had an extra advantage that allowed him to make quick work of his opponent. Despite Mephisto’s rage and anger, he could not overcome the boog boot-leg drop combo, showing shades of Hulk Hogan, which caused Rich to claim victory.
Aarons and Espinosa made their second appearance of the night, this time with Aarons facing off against Mark Sterling. Before the match even stared, Aarons’ sunglasses were stepped on, which astounded Aarons and prompted Espinosa to proclaim, “That’s the second pair this week!”
Once Aarons and Sterling locked up, fans witnessed the best match of the night up to this point. Aarons took the fight to Sterling, but Sterling’s tenacity outweighed Aarons’ on this occasion. At one point, Sterling tried to force Aarons to drink a beer, only to dump it on him instead. That seemed to light a fire in Aarons because he came back with an impressive offense, but it was not enough to put away Sterling, who won the bout via tapout.

LWA President Luke Roberts made his way to the ring after that bout and called out “The Technical Messiah” Nick Tyson and “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush to talk about their match later in the evening. Before much could be said, Evan Gelistico and Pierre Abernathy interrupted the proceedings, and Abernathy wanted to know why Tyson had the opportunity to wrestling Quackenbush and not himself.
After the Submission Squad put a stop to the meeting between Tyson and Quackenbush, the always-flamboyant Mike Sydal teamed with “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt against one-half of the tag team champions K.C. Karrington and a surprise partner. Karrington announced that “Spoiled” Steven Kennedy had some business to take care of in Hyannis Port, MA and could not attend, so he found a substitute in “Future” Donovan Ruddick.
Karrington and Ruddick controlled the early stages of the match, but Wyatt and Sydal had the opportunity to get in some formidable offense. Both teams meshed even though Wyatt appeared somewhat standoff-ish toward his colorful partner. That fact, coupled with the pending championship match between Ruddick and Wyatt, may have lead to the downfall of Sydal and Wyatt. Ruddick decisively ended the scuffle by pinning Wyatt.

The seemingly never-ending feud between the Submission Squad and the Bearded Men from Space Station Eleven continued as Evan Gelistico and Pierre Abernathy made an effort to put an end to Gary the Barnowl and Billy McNeil. After Gelistico and Abernathy finished heckling a fan at ringside the bout got underway, and Gary and McNeil tried to take quick control. They went so far as to pull off Abernathy’s tattoo sleeve, which elicited an uproar from Gelistico.

At one point, Gelistico had Gary down and out, prompting McNeil to send a paper air plane to Gary for assistance. However, Gelistico got to the plane first, chewed it up and spit it out. With any form of help out of the equation now, Gelistico forced McNeil to inadvertently deliver a DDT to Gary, allowing an easy win for the Submission Squad.

XXX Jordan Lacey returned to action, much to the delight of the crowd. Lacey stated that he is ready to get his title back from Wyatt, but Vice President Jewells said that he must work his way up from the bottom like everyone else. Just after that announcement, Michael Morbid and Shamus O’ Flannery rushed to the ring and attempted to defeat Lacey in his first match back. However, Lacey had other plans as he quickly put Morbid and Flannery in their place and emerged victorious due to a Knock Out.
Shorty Biggs works for a pin in the match but was unable to get the Victory in the end.
Once again, Dorian Victor begged fans for money due to his financial troubles, using Bavarian Boy as a scapegoat yet again. After his opponent, Shorty Biggs, came out for the match, Victor announced that he would dance for money, but once he started Biggs joined in, ruining Victor’s plan. Thus, the match got underway. Both men had their strong points, but Victor’s persistance allowed him to overcome Biggs on this exchange.
The match that everyone was waiting for took place next—Mike Quackenbush v. Nick Tyson. Early on, Tyson tried to say that Quackenbush used illegal maneuvers such as hair pulling, slapping and eye gouging. Quackenbush had not done those things, but when he had the chance, he did them—right in front of the referee for effect. The match progressed smoothly after that, and the two men began to put on a wrestling clinic. Hold after hold and reversal after reverasl, Tyson and Quackenbush captivated the fans. Unfortunately, Abernathy and Gelistico interfered in the match, with Abernathy proclaiming, “You don’t get Quack v. Tyson!” Being such, McNeil and Gary came to the aid of Quackenbush and Tyson, after which the referee called the match a no contest.

Ending in an unlikely manner, LWA fans needed to attend the second night of the double shot in O’ Fallon, IL to see what other unpredictable antics would occur.

With the 2008 season of the Wrestling Revival Cup done and champions crowned, the end of the year brings the preliminary MWR 2009 Wrestling Revival Cup rankings! The beginning of the season has witnessed the downturn in the economy, but the Midwest has responded by putting great wrestlers to work in front of loyal fans. The turnouts at shows in November and December were strong, and many companies have reported that they are doing well financially at this point in time. Take from this what you like, but it is my belief that the talent in the Midwest is stronger than it has been for a very long time, and promoters are realizing that they can take their time to put together great shows.
In the singles division there has been a lot of movement to start off the new season. MWR started the 2009 season by giving a preliminary top 75. Rounding out the rankings is Donnie Peppercricketat number 75. Peppercricket’s profile in Iowa seems to be growing in 3XWrestling and Pro Wrestling Phoenix. With a feud on the horizon with long time tag team partner Joey Daniels for PWP, look for Peppercricket’s name to be more recognizable to Midwest pro wrestling fans.
Dinn T Mooreis another man who is benefiting from exposure in Iowa. He comes in at number 67 after making impressive appearances in Iowa. Time will tell whether his tag team partnership with Brian Breaker as World League Wrestling Tag Team Champions will slow his progression in the singles rankings, but the fact still remains that he is an intimidating man in the ring with plenty of skill. He could be the heavyweight champion in WLW or any other promotion, for that matter.
The New Midwest Wrestling Heavyweight Champion successfully defended his title over a top ranked opponent in Mississippi Madman recently. Benz, coming in at number 48, has a lot going for him as he continues his climb up the MWR rankings. NMW seems to be staying active over the holiday season when other promotions are not as busy, and Benz could definitely reap the benefits of that exposure. If I were to make a prediction about Benz, I would say that by mid-year he will easily be ranked in the top 20. Maybe even closing in on the top ten.
At number 44, Jerry Lynn‘s star in the Midwest seems to be dimming. It wasn’t that long ago that he finally dropped the All American Wrestling Heavyweight Title to Tyler Black. If he continues to stay inactive, his rankings could suffer in the MWR coverage area. That takes nothing away from his ability, however. When competing, Lynn is always a serious threat to his opponent.
For the 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup, Silas Younghad one of the most impressive win-loss records. Although primarily competing for All American Wrestling in the Chicago area, Young could become a force in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area if given the chance. Currently ranked number 31, his year could depend on how well he does in his quest to become All American Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.
Right above Young at number 29 is my pick for 2009 Wrestling Revival Cup sleep, Kraig Keesaman. Keesaman continues to grow more charismatic by the day, and his wins are slowly beginning to pass his losses. As the dust settles in 3XWrestling championship scene and the newly christened NWA: Dynamo Pro promotion, Keesaman could emerge a force to be reckoned with. I’d say the odds are in his favor.
Brandon Espinosa is the master of diversification. If the man was a stock broker, he’d be on par with World Wrestling Entertainment’s John Bradshaw Layfield. At number 26, Espinosa is active in numerous promotions throughout the MWR coverage area, picking up wins in many of them over the course of the last couple of months. The question is whether he’ll take a shot at Lethal Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight Champion and MWR’s 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup Champion “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyattor give High Voltage Wrestling Heavyweight Champion and current number 2 in the MWR rankings “The Future” Donovan Ruddick a run for his money. He is in line for shots at both, and could skyrocket to the top of the rankings with decisive victories over both at the beginning of this year.
As the New Breed Wrestling Alliance and Heritage Wrestling Coalition’s Heavyweight Champion, “Bloody” Harker Dirge is poised to make 2009 his year. Dirge is ranked 17th in the preliminary rankings, and I don’t believe anyone doubts his ability to make it to the top ten by Spring. An outside booking for another promotion or a high profile win in NBWA could be all it takes.
For my money, the biggest chance for rankings shake up is the January 3, 2008 MWR Midwest Best Series Match pitting 2008’s Wrestling Revival Cup Champion and current number one Jeremy Wyattagainst 2008’s MWR 100 number one, Tyler Blackunder the LWA banner. Wyatt finished the year as the top wrestler in the MWR coverage area and is a favorite to win a second time with his current number one ranking. Black is a national wrestling star and possibly the next top level Midwest wrestler to make it to TNA or WWE. A win or a loss could spell major changes for both talented wrestlers, which could create a ripple effect in the MWR rankings.

I won’t lie to you, I was excited about going to Pomona Kansas for professional wrestling. How could you not be? The night would include a NWAKansas Championship match between #1 Brett Young taking on Tyler Cook, Dingo was scheduled to have a rematch with Jeremy Wyatt. A tag team dream match between the LONRS and the Ego Express plus ROH Superstar Davey Richards would be in action as well. Yes, I was excited about all of those stellar matches, but what really excited me was hooking back up with my friends in Kansas before the holidays.
Dubray and I got into the Pomona, Kansas, a small town of less than a 1000 that I had never heard of, much less been too. The NWA has advertised a meet and greet with the fans at a restaurant called Buzzards Pizza. I had ran into a wrestling fan in St Louis the week before, Jonathan Jones, who I had told about this night of wrestling. To be honest, I really didn’t believe that he would make it. Lo and behold, Jonathan called me to let me know he was in town, so he caught up with us at Buzzards. While the wrestlers met with the fans, we enjoyed some of the best pizza I had ever tasted. Wrestling fans if you ever hear that a wrestling show is coming to Pomona, you now have two reasons to go.

The NWA had invited us to come and give away a MWR T-shirt to one of the fans at the show. While my better looking half, Dubray met them at the door Jonathan and I watched as fans kept coming through the door. I was thinking to myself, “is the whole town here?”
Before the match started, a 3 bell salute with a moment of silence, was asked by Larry Barber from the crowd, due to a tragedy within the community. A young man age 14, Treavor Wormell, had lost his life while another boy Preston Bunyard was in critical condition after a head on collision with a combine. Everyone at MWR, extends their thoughts and prayers to both families.
With the building packed, the announcer introduced the first match, a six way between Domino Rivera, Brandon Espinosa (In a pretty pink and blue outfit), Kraig Kessman, Mike Sydal (Skipping into the ring), Davey Vega and Adam Rich. I turned to Jonathan and said “There’s a lot of talent in the ring right now.” Rivera, who is a stone cold assassin normally, couldn’t resist teasing Sydal and Espinosa that they should be a couple before the match started, which prompted laughter throughout the building.
Throughout the match Sydal was able to use his athletic ability to impress the crowd. Espinosa hit a beautiful dropkick on Vega, but Vega would later return the favor when Espy was outside the ring, Vega went to the top rope and his a flying body press onto both Espy and Sydal and at the same time that happened Kessman went to the top rope on the other side and hit a flying ax handle on Rivera. Exciting action from all 6 men ensued during the match. Rivera seemed to have the match won when he hit a killer clothesline but when he went for another move, Kessman hit a snap mare DDT for the win.
Aaron Scott and Brandon Marino were up next, the two mirrored each other in looks, power and moves. What one could do the other would match. Aaron was nasty from the get go and threatened to rip off Marino’s arm at one point of the match. Powerful kicks and big moves were abundant in this encounter. Marino made the mistake of going to the top for a high risk move but Aarons was one step ahead and moved out of the way which led to Marino hurting his leg. Aarons smelled a weakness and capitalized on it with a sharpshooter for the victory. I know I saw more wrestling in this seventeen minute match than I have seen on my TV screen the past 2 weeks. Trust me when I say you will hear of these two guys before it is said and done.
#1 Brett Young came to the ring to let the fans know that he is the NWA Kansas State Champion, a fact that makes him better than each and everyone of the fans in attendance. Tyler Cooks name echoed all through the building as he entered the ring. The Champion showed little respect for the #1 contender by slapping him in the middle of the ring. Cook returned the favor with a slap of his own. Young went for a cheap shot, but Cook was ready with the block and a punch. Young wisely bailed out of the ring, and my guess was he finally realized for the first time that this match was not going to be a walk in the park.
The ever popular Shorty Biggs was to take on every fans enemy, Pierre Abernathy, who on this night was accompanied by manager Sadie Blaze. Biggs had Abernathy rattled early on with his tomfoolery. Abernathy bailed out of the ring, Biggs went with him and chased him around the ring. Blaze then made his presence known by hiding under the ring with sneak attack. The crowd was not happy that the European scumbag had taken the cheap way and the building rang with USA chants. Shorty would get the advantage only to have Blaze interfere and negate it. Blaze attempted to help one more time, but Shorty took advantage of a miss hit for the 1 2 3 win going into the intermission.
At Intermission the wrestlers came out and met with the fans to take pictures and thank them for coming. While they did that, Jonathan went and bought the Jeremy Wyatt and Tyler Cook t-shirts, and I caught up with my friends Logan and Alex. I was able to speak to some of the wonderful members of the Masons. The night of wrestling was also a fundraiser for the Masons. They explained to me in more detail of what their organization is about.It is amazing what the Masons do to help others in need.
After intermission we were treated to what I’d like to think was a triple main event. Thefirst match was two of the best tag teams in the Midwest, The LONRS (Mark Sterling and Darrien Sanders) taking on the Ego Express ( Steven Kennedy and KC Karrington) and led by the always talking Tiffany Lefane.
The LONRS were home in Kansas, but the two let the fans know they wanted nothing to do with them. The match went back and forth with Lefane’s presence felt at major moments of the match. This would prove to be true when the LONRS went for a top rope piledriver on Kennedy. Lefane took advantage and distracted Sterling, Karrington meanwhile took out Sanders and pushed him out of the ring to allow Kennedy to roll up. The LONRS were furious and vowed to get revenge on the Express when the NWA returns January 31, in Ottawa Kansas.The Ego Express and the LONRS had lived up to the expectations of Jonathan who stated that this was his vote for the match of the night.
Dingo was scheduled to take on his rival Jeremy Wyatt but due to an injury was unable to make it. He was replaced by Ring of Honor Superstar Davey Richards. As soon as the announcer stated who Wyatt’s opponent was, I knew there was going to be a war. Wyatt normally is able to overwhelm his opponents with his intensity but Richards is one of the few men who can match him and then some. Wyatt and Richards beat each other from one side of the ring to the other. At one point Wyatt threw Richards out of the ring onto a group of fans in the front row with ring rail in tow. Wyatt hit a belly to back suplex for the victory against the ROH Superstar. This was a pure wrestling classic with no gimmicks required.
Davey Richards did not care if Wyatt is the number one ranked wrestler in the Midwest. He delivered brutal strikes throughout the match.
That last match could have been the main event anywhere else in the country but on this night we had the NWA Kansas Championship Match. Brett Young walked to the ring and seemed to regain his composure from the earlier meeting with the young Tyler Cook. The place was shouting “Let’s go Tyler” but Young is a master in the squared circled and slowed the pace down so that the fans and Cook were unable to get the quick start. When Cook would get the upper hand, Young wisely took a step back and never let him get in a routine. Young decided that he would just take the easy win by going to the locker room and calling it a night but Cook took it upon himself to bring him back to the ring. The fans were ecstatic when Cook turned it up a notch and proceeded to punish Young outside the ring. At one moment, Cook held Young while a Kansas masked fan delivered a Ric Flair chop.
Playing around with the fans may have been a mistake because when Cook threw back inside the ring. Young struck quickly before Cook could get back in the ring to get the advantage. Every time Cook would strike, Young had an answer.
With the referees back turned Young took the pad of the turnbuckle. The time that it took allowed Cook to recover, which led me to believe that we would have a new champion. I was sure that Young’s evil deeds would backfire on him. With Cook going for the pin, Young powered out and threw Cook head first into the uncovered turnbuckle. With the challenger knocked out Young was able to get the victory and retain the NWA Kansas Championship in an exciting match.

The rebel wrestled in FIVE organizations in four states in the month of November. At 3XW in Iowa, he defeated the vastly improving Mike Sydal. In Illinois with HVW he wrestled Kahagas in such a tough match that Kahagas had to use a fake injury to get the upper hand to steal the win. At LWA in Missouri, he retained the LWA Championship in a three way between Dingo and KC Karrington when he pinned Karrington.
He traveled to PWP in Iowa he was able to retain the PWP Championship when he defeated former Champion Abu Colossus and #1 Brett Young in a three way dance. Last, but not least he returned to Kansas with the NWA, he was scheduled to take on Dingo but when Dingo was unable to go, none other than ROH Star Davey Richards would be the man Wyatt had to beat. In a match up that Wyatt sure felt the next day; the outcome was once again a win for the Rebel Jeremy Wyatt.

He showed that he gravitates toward greatness, and he felt that Kahagas could not handle it anymore (see video on Missouri Wrestling Revival). Overall, Magic Man’s wit and knowledge warrant his nomination for Personality of the month.

On a night where every match was top notch, the pressure was on in front of 221 people. The Kansas Champion was at his very best, working the crowd to frenzy and using every advantage to retain the title. Tyler Cook, worked and worked to get the momentum going his way but when Cook hit the uncovered turnbuckle (Thanks to Brett Young earlier) he would go home without the belt. In the main event, you can make or break what the fans thought of the night. Cook showed that he can live up to the hype that many feel he is capable. The fans though, cant wait to see Brett Young get what’s coming to him next time. What more can you ask from the bad guy?

One could make the claim that 2008 has been the year of the Rebel. With no regard for the fans he took a stranglehold of the LWA belt on October 24th after cashing his LWA medallion. He already has one victory of a ROH star when he defeated Davey Richards in November. Wyatt is ready to prove to the world that one of the best wrestlers is in the LWA. Look for him to punish Black with powerful strikes and a DDT of his own called the cropduster or the vicious Lighting spiral (snap cradle Olympic slam).
This is the Super bowl of the Midwest with number one taking on number one. Wrestling fans you do not want to miss Wyatt vs. Black.

High Voltage Wrestling definitely lived up to its name at its “Fuel for the Fire” show which featured eight matches that shocked the wrestling world (pun intended). With a crowd of 121, the fans surely got their money’s worth and then some as stars from across the Midwest graced fans with their presence.
DeAndre King took on Cheap Shot McGrot in the opening bout apparently under “Cheap Shot” rules in which nearly every illegal tactic is legal. It appeared that many fans did not know how to react to McGrot, as he got laughs from some and looks of utter confusion from others. Whatever he did got a reaction, which is all one can hope for. However, his showboating and playing to the crowd thwarted his plans, as King forced McGrot to tap out.
Cabal and Mark Smart went at it in what one can only describe as a brawl. Chairs were thrown around prior to the ringing of the bell, enranging fans in the front row. Very little fan interaction existed in this quick match, but the competitors gave it their all nonetheless. In the end, Cabal brought Mark Smart’s actions to a halt and won the bout.
“Number One” Brett Young and Mike Sydal had their hands full on this night against Eric Allen and Rick Stone in a 45 minute time limit match. The rough and tough team of Allen and Stone seemed determined to succeed against the glory hounds of Young and Sydal, who spent almost as much time yelling at fans as they did wrestling. One would think that such tactics would lessen a team’s chance of winning, however, Sydal and Young possess excellent skills along with their cocky attitudes. Sydal secured the victory after a leg drop from the top rope onto Allen.
Midwest newcomer Kahagas (the Coastal Championship Wrestling South Eastern Champion), managed by Magic Man, challenged one of the most technically sound wrestlers in the area in “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt. Only minutes into the match, Kahagas appeared to have suffered an injury while sidestepping a maneuver Wyatt attempted to deliver. Wyatt demanded to the promoter, TNT Keny G, that he find another opponent for Wyatt, to which Keny G accepted. However, Kahagas used his wit to fool Keny G, as well as the Rebel himself, who held the ropes for Kahagas to step through. Just as Kahagas made his way to the ropes, he quickly attacked Wyatt, securing his victory he attained a short time later.
After intermission, Mephisto wrestled against Keny G. From the moment the bell rang, it seemed as though the competitors would give fans an enjoyable match. But before either man could gain any real momentum, Kris Synz interfered and attacked Keny G, which prompted “Wicked” Step Johnson to make his presence felt. Establishing their dominance, Johnson and Keny G sent Mephisto and Synz running to the back.
The next bout consisted of the always-entertaining Bandana Mafia (“Point Blank” Pierre Abernathy, “Notorious E.V.A.N.” Evan Gelistico, and “Bullet Proof” Davey Vega) attempting to use their street smarts to outwit Jon Divosi, Cecil Cerveza, and Aaron Matthews. In a battle for the six-man cup, both teams pulled out all of the stops, proving their worth to the wrestling community. Vega took most of the beating at the hands of Divosi, Cerveza and Matthews, while Gelistico and Abernathy did everything in their power to try and tip the scales in their favor, but to no avail, as the Illinois tandem won the six-man cup to the disappointment of all in attendance.
Mark Sterling and DaCobra put on an impressive match prior to the main event. When two hardworking competitors such as these get in the ring together, one cannot help but enjoy what they are witnessing. Submissions and reversals remained a constant, keeping both fans and the competitors alike on their toes, anticipating the next move. Sterling and DaCobra both showed tenacity and desire, but DaCobra had the extra edge this night, as he delivered a splash from the top rope for the win.
Only moments after the bout ended, Sterling attacked DaCobra, prompitng Gary the Barnowl to fly from the back and attack Sterling. This, in turn, caused Keny G to stop the commotion at ringside and announce that at the next show on Jan. 10, Gary, Sterling and DaCobra would contend for the Livewire Championship.
In arguably one of the most anticipated main events, “Thee” Brandon Espinosa was set to take on “Future” Donovan Ruddick, but before the two men started the match, Magic Man demanded to know why Kahagas was not in the main event. These actions—and the two original competitors’ attitudes towards Kahagas—forced Keny G to make the match a triple threat. The three men went at it like nothing else in the world mattered. Bodies flew all over the ring—and out of the ring. Espinosa leaped off the apron onto Ruddick at one point. Shortly thereafter, a chair and a kendo stick came into the mix, as Espinosa, Kahagas and Ruddick fought through the fans. After this hellacious battle, if any of the competitors walked out with the belt, they would have earned it. When all was said and done, Ruddick stood tall with the High Voltage Championship, causing Kahagas to act out in anger and strike Magic Man and the general manager with a kendo stick.
Due to the ruckus in the aftermath of the match, Keny G anounced that on Jan. 10, Ruddick and Magic Man will take on himself and Kahagas.
For only its second show, High Voltage put on an impressive array of matches that left fans beggin for more. As long as they keep their momentum going, nothing will stop them from shocking the wrestling world—nothing.

Since debuting in Oct. 2005, Brandon Espinosa has undergone a series of eccentric transformations. From The Latino Espy to The Crow to Fantasma and, currently, the epitome of cocky, “Thee” Brandon Espinosa—as one half of B.A.B.E.WATCH with Brandon Aarons—Espinosa’s character has evolved nearly as much as the man himself.
Like many others just starting out, Espinosa considers his initial persona more of a rip-off than anything else.
“I was trying to start fresh, and when I first started—of course you know every wrestler…normally mimicks somebody, whether it’s their trainer or maybe the one they idolized most, and, of course, I idolized Eddie [Guerrero].,” Espinosa said.
As much as he admired Latino Heat, Epinosa feels that he took the necessary steps to progress himself as a wrestler.
“I went into The Crow just because I’m a big fan of the movie. Then the Phantom of the Opera thing was just to slowly transition out of The Crow. And then, becoming ‘Thee’ Brandon Espinosa was just to go with my cocky attitude as well; it just fit me better than any of the other gimmicks,” he said.
The conversion of characters enhanced his performance in the ring because it allowed him to be himself—no strings attached. In addition to the shifts in personas, the use of his real name enhanced the image he projected, which Lethal Wrestling Alliance (LWA) first allowed him to do in Dec. 2006. Within a year, Espinosa found himself preparing to team up with LWA and NWA-Dynamo Pro wrestler Brandon Aarons to form B.A.B.E.WATCH, which stands for Brandon Aarons and Brandon Espinosa.
“To be honest, at first I was like, ‘This sucks, of the people I could have tagged with,’ but now it’s the exact opposite. He has come a long way in very little time. Brandon is one of those guys that really has the heart and determination to make it in this business. He devotes so much into everything he does in his life and makes wrestling his top priority because he is 100% dedicated,” Aarons said.
B.A.B.E.WATCH “clicked from the moment [they] met each other back in December of ’07,” according to Espinosa, who hopes that the tandem can claim championship gold in the near future, along with traveling across the Midwest and possibly to both coasts.
Aarons foresees B.A.B.E.WATCH becoming a major force on the Midwest tag team scene.
“When people see B.A.B.E.WATCH being promoted on a show, I want those people to be like, ‘These guys don’t mess around.’ I think me and Brandon have a lot to offer as a team, and I know that we can, and will, be a ‘team to beat’ in the Midwest.
“I look at teams like The Phoenix Twins, The North Star Express, The LONRS and The Ego Express, [and] when you see these teams on a show you know that not only are you going to be entertained and get your money’s worth, but you are going to see teams that have passion for this great sport and give it their all in the ring,” Aarons said.
On a more casual note, Aarons utilizes the most evident similarity between himself and Espinosa.
“We do have the same name so anytime anyone says stuff about me, I just play it off like they meant to say it to him,” Aarons said.
For Espinosa, the transition from his former self to B.A.B.E.WATCH came at a steady, gradual pace.
“I slowly stopped ripping off actual wrestlers, and I ended up deciding to be myself, which really adapt[ed] to what Brandon Aarons is all about as well. So, [my character] and his character are very similar, very much alike,” he said.
Espinosa’s career began just over three years ago at the South Broadway Athletic Club in St. Louis, MO with the help of a close friend. In such a short time, he has already wrestled for nearly 30 companies—one of which podcasted the show on the internet (Juggalo Championship Wrestling) and another which broadcasted on national television (NWA-Central States, now NWA-Dynamo Pro).
Throughout his time in wrestling, Espinosa two main heroes in the business.
“My biggest influence watching tv-wise was definitely Eddie. Then after that, when I started teaming up with Brandon, it became him. Me and him started clicking very well, we were very good friends, from the moment we met each other,” he said.
This dynamic duo will reunite at LWA’s Yuletide Terror against Shorty Biggs and MMWA-SICW Junior Heavyweight Champion A.J. Williams—for the first time since competing against Steve and Johnny Boland in August.
