Fans entered the building to receive free NWL KC T-shirts, bumper stickers, and merchandise. They were also welcome to come to the NWL booth to sign up for NWL e-mail updates and purchase tickets for the Jan 7th debut of the NWL at the Scottish Rite Temple .

Chris Gough thanked everyone for their support throughout the years including the fans, wrestlers Turner Rec Staff and Metro Pro Wrestling crew.

He introduced the NWL owner Major Baisden. Baisden welcomed everyone to come out and support NWL in both KC and STL as they are looking to take wrestling in the Midwest to a new level. He then asked to have Metro Pro Wrestling Commissioner Michael Strider to come to the ring. Baisden addressed the near riot at St. Louis Anarchy in November that was led by Strider and fellow NWL KC. Baisden had told Strider NOT to go to STL on that night and for interrupting Davey Vega’s title belt celebration with the chaos, he was FIRED.

Major Baisden then told Strider that he had reinstated Jeremy Wyatt.

MPW June 4th Recap Demolition Arrives, Jeremy Wyatt & Michael Strider Collide

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 30, 2016

BBQ, music and laughter is what you would have walked up to even if you had planned to be one of the first people in line at Metro Pro’Wrestling‘s 6th anniversary show on June 4th. If you failed to drink a strong cup of coffee that morning you might have thought you were outside of Arrowhead Stadium with a bunch of wild fans. Come to find out Metro Pro fans aren’t too different from Chiefs fans in that they are loyal, loud and a little over the top. To no one’s surprise, it was the guys and gals of the Wrestle Talk Podcast and the WWE Universe Worldwide Chapter fantasy wrestling group. I expect that this isn’t the last time we will see or hear about this group. Especially since every Metro Pro show keeps getting better and better and this show was without a doubt better than the last and we are sure the next will be better than this one. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves because we have a lot of ground to cover as we breakdown this show. Just know this writer’s only goal is to make you wish you would have made this show and to get you fired up and exited for the next show coming up in July. So let’s get going!

The show inside the building kicked off with a match between the Math Magician and The Iceman (1/2 of Team Vintage).

metrolrdemo-1

This was a fun match where the fans especially the kids enjoyed themselves. Few things are as fun as counting along with the Math Magician when his music hits or even as he attempts to rally for a comeback. As fun as it is to count along with one guy it is just as fun to boo and heckle The Iceman. Who since has gone to “the dark side” has been on a slide. Sadly, (for him and Team Vintage) tonight was no different.

metrolrdemo-2

The Mathmagician was able to get the crowd behind him and pull off the big win in a match that lasted 6 minutes and 31 seconds. That was not the last time we would see the The Iceman this night.

metrolrdemo-3

Following the opening match the crowned was treated (I use that term loosely) to an appearance by President Michael Strider and his stunning partner in crime, Lucy Mendez. As you can imagine, they were met with a tremendous fan disapproval. Not more than 10 seconds in the ring Strider started bragging about how thanks to him Metro Pro fans would no longer have to see, hear or even have to worry about Jeremy Wyatt, all thanks to him and of course a little help with former ECW champion “The Man Beast,” Rhyno. All those who are familiar with the situation know what for over 2yrs Striders only goal has to rid Metro Pro wrestling of Wyatt, the undisputed fan favorite.  It was also pointed out that Strider had a piece of what seemed like toilet paper on his shoe which he had Lucy remove for him in all of his arrogance.

In an attempt to get back to business Strider reminded that crowd that this wasn’t just any show but Metro Pro’s 6th anniversary show and that night we would have the pleasure of seeing him accept the MWR wrestler of the year award on the behalf of the recently fired Jeremy Wyatt. Also that we would get to see some great matches in round 1 of the tournament to crown a new Metro Pro Wrestling champion. And of course that the legendary tag team Demolition would be teaming with fan favorite ‘The Commission’ in the main even match of the night, and a whole lot more. The best part of this segment of the show according to most fans is when it was over.

We then moved on to some more in ring action. First up we had Jon Webb vs Kiyoshi Shizuka.

metrolrdemo-4

Where even though Davey Vega was ring side and in Shisuka’s corner, Jon Webb was able to pull off the win in just under 13 minutes. This advances Webb to round two of the Metro Pro Wrestling tournament to crown the new Metro Pro champion and left both Shisuka and Vega with a bad taste in their mouths.

metrolrdemo-10

metrolrdemo-11

metrolrdemo-12

metrolrdemo-13

Next we moved into some hard hitting tag team action where we had a team the we will affectionately call “The Beards” Redwing and Jay Howard vs long time bad guys and well known trouble makers the KC Kings. This match as good as should be expected but just as Redwing and Howie had things well in hand the man known as Ace Steele felt like he needed to come out and make his presence felt by hitting Howard over the head with his central states championship. Surprisingly though, that would not be enough as Redwing was able to get the 1,2,3 even though his partner was outside the ring and out for the count at that moment.

metrolrdemo-20

metrolrdemo-21

New comer Rory Fox caught almost everyone off guard with this energy and skill as he faced Metro Pro’s resident bad guy “The World’s Fittest Wrestler,” Mark Sterling. As you would expect the KC King Brothers were there and they played their usual role of heel-aids by helping Sterling secure the win after several attacks on Rory with referee Michael Case’s back turned. Though he gave a valiant effort this almost 3 on 1 affair, it ended with Mark Sterling getting the win in a little under 9 minutes and 30 seconds.

metrolrdemo-23

The match between Kraig Keesaman and Jake Dirden started days before they actually faced off in the ring. A few days earlier there was some back and forth on Twitter on who exactly would come out on top in this match and move on to round two of the Metro Pro’s Championship Tournament. The fans seemed to be split right down the middle and Dirden and Keesaman both confidently asserted that they indeed would be winning this match. To no ones’ surprise by the time the match started we quickly found out that even after all the trash talking Keesaman did on Twitter he still felt to bring his insurance policy The Iceman to the ring with him.
metrolrdemo-24

metrolrdemo-25

metrolrdemo-26

metrolrdemo-27

metrolrdemo-28

metrolrdemo-29

In the end it didn’t matter, Dirden was too much for both Keesaman and The Iceman and put Keesaman away with a in a little over 10 minutes.

After 4 incredible matches since their last appearance President Michael Strider and Lucy Mendez made their way back into the ring this time to except the MWR wrestler of the year award that Brian Kelley himself would be presenting. Just as Brian would reluctantly begin to hand the trophy over to Strider who at this point is nearly foaming at the mouth at the idea of being handed this award, Jeremy Wyatt’s music hits and the crowed in the Turner Rec Center. Wyatt made his way in the ring and did something surprising and turned his attention to Brian Kelley and expressed what most people in attendance that are familiar with MWR and that work that whole crew does already knew. That the work they do is amazing and has been a cornerstone in helping to elevate wrestling in the Midwest to a whole new level. Brian and his wife in particular have spent years traveling all over to show support and uplift that sport that we all love dearly. The crowd was 100% in agreement and Brian was given a well-deserved standing ovation which lasted well over 2 minutes. This really seemed to catch Brian off guard and the look on his face was priceless. Truly a highlight moment of the night and one to be remembered.

Wyatt then turned his attention to Strider and the two locked eyes as they have so many times before. You could cut the tension with a knife at this point.
metrolrdemo-31

Wyatt proceeded to inform Strider that he would be accepting the MWR award himself and that he had some new regarding a letter he had in his possession via the Board Of Directors. According to Wyatt this letter guarantees a match No holds barred match at the July 30th show. Not only that, if Strider refused to sign he would lose his job as President and Wyatt would take over that position. After throwing what would be comparable only to the fit of 5 year old spoiled brat, Strider was forced to sign it.

metrolrdemo-32

Only to be told a few seconds later by Wyatt that he lied about him losing his job and it was all made up to get him to sign it. This indeed may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back because only a few seconds later Strider removed his shirt and challenged Wyatt to jump back into the ring. Which almost seemed to be exactly what Wyatt was waiting for.
metrolrdemo-33

metrolrdemo-34

metrolrdemo-35

metrolrdemo-36

metrolrdemo-37

metrolrdemo-38

Fists and kicks lashed out and it got so out of hand that the whole locker room was forced to come out and break them up. Flashes of Undertaker vs Brock Lesner went through the minds many as this was all going on inside and outside the ring for what seemed like an eternity.

metrolrdemo-50

Once the ring was finally cleared we go the in ring action back underway and there was no time for anyone to catch their breath because the following match included the fabulous Riegal Twins vs the always game KC Wolves. The match was high energy and high flying, first we were treated to a front flip by Sterling Riegal over one of the ring posts right on top of both KC Wolfs then we got an amazing cross body where Logan Riegal, was by the estimation of many over 10 feet in the air!

metrolrdemo-51

Once the action got back into the ring the KC Wolfs did the unexpected and resorted to the low blow behind the refs back and the Wolves ended up getting the win.

We also had to other great matches before the main event the delivered the goods. We had a unification match between Steve Fender and Ace Steele.

This match was bring the belts ( Kansas State Championship,) (Central States Championship) together to crown one true champion.

After a lot of hot dogging and fooling with the ref the action got underway and Ace Steele was able to pull off the win with a little help from Redwing to retain the Central States title and to unify it with the Kansas State title.

metrolrdemo-63

metrolrdemo-64

Next, we had hot up-and-comer and recent graduate from the KC Pro Wrestling Training Center, Bobby Blackshire face off against former Metro Pro champion Derek Stone in a hard fought match where to Savvy Ol’ Vet ended up getting the win.

For the main event of the night we had the legendary Demolition team up with fan favorites “The Commission” to face a team full of stars to include Mike Sydal, Mark Sterling, Davey Vega and Kiyoshi Shizuka

metrolrdemo-73

metrolrdemo-74

This was a dream come true for many wrestling fans in the crowd. So many remember the legacy that Demolition left in there time in WWF and their title reign which is still the longest tag team championship reign of all time. The match did not disappoint and at one point there opponents couldn’t even decide who should go in the ring because they were so out matched by Demolition and the Commission. Near the end, something incredible happened, Axe and Smash decided to pass the torch to the next generation by helping Pierre and Gelistico set up the DEMOLITION DECAPITATION!

metrolrdemo-75

That as it always has been was enough to get the win and close out the show with a bang!

metrolrdemo-76

So at the end of the night, as awesome as it was there is still a lot of unfinished business. Lots of questions to be answered. Will this no holds barred match truly be the end of the rivalry between Wyatt and Strider? What other wrestlers will move on to round two of the tournament? Will Cobra Kai be back to defend their tag team titles, and if so, against who? One thing that is without a question is that some of the names that have already been released as scheduled to appear are the who’s who of pro wrestling to include Stevie Richards, Hype Gotti, Kevin Lee Davidson, and Sonjay Dutt. And that’s just what has been announced up to this point. Definitely a great time to be a fan in the Midwest because the local guys keep getting better and the stars that are being brought in are all class acts like Axe and Smash. That’s something that can’t be taken for granted. Nor is your chance to catch the next Metro Pro Wrestling show on July 30th at Turner Rec Center in Kansas City Kansas. See you there!

Metro Pro Wrestling Packs the House to Start 2016

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 4, 2016

By Debbie Chmidling

January 30 Metro Pro Wrestling was a sold-out crowd. People were packed in to see an amazing show and promoter Chris Gough did not disappoint. The opening bout was Jayden Fenix vs. Jay Howard.

 photo MPWJAN2016-41_zpsc7uwa80a.jpg

It was a fast-paced, action-packed match that left the crowd hungry for more. Howard took the victory with a submission move, much to the delight of the fans.

Next up was a segment with Commissioner Michael Strider. He came to the ring, his usual arrogant, cocky self, berating announcer Don Diablo for not holding the ring ropes even though Diablo was injured. Next up he discussed the Brass Ring Challenge featuring Jake Dirden, Kraig Keesaman and Devin Thomas, stating the winner would get a championship match at the time of their choosing. He was interrupted by Mark Sterling, reminding him that he was advertised for the match and wanting to know why he was taken out. Strider informed Sterling he was out because he “couldn’t get the job done” against Wyatt.

 photo 4_zpsywjtt1vb.jpg

Sterling countered that he had two falls against Wyatt in one night, something no one else had ever done, he is the only one in Metro Pro who has competed in three iron man matches, and a list of stars brought in to eliminate Wyatt also failed. Strider conceded Sterling could be in the Brass Ring Challenge, however, he had to win the match or be fired.

Kiyoshi Shizuka with Geek Singh vs Redwing for the Central States Title.

 photo 6_zpspzlrkhgt.jpg

At the outset, it was all Redwing on offense until Singh interfered, allowing Shizuka to attack Redwing from behind with a wicked chop block to the left knee. He continued to work on the knee for several minutes with clubbing blows and dropping on the knee several times.
 photo MPWJAN2016-121_zpstovbp1qb.jpg

 photo 8_zpschkegwil.jpg

 photo 7_zpsu8rfhhkd.jpg

At one point, Redwing made it to the ropes, Shizuka distracted the referee and Singh choked Redwing with the bottom rope. Redwing spent a great deal of time on defense for this match, but once he regained his feet, it was all over for Shizuka. Using a crushing power slam, Redwing pinned him to retain the title.

The Commission, Evan Gelistico and Pierre Abernathy, vs The King Brothers, Jake and Ryan, for the number one contender spot for the tag team title. The Commission may have had a great weight disadvantage, but they had so much pent-up aggression, they rapidly overtook The King Brothers.

 photo 3_zpsvrzl6kex.jpg

The Commission attacked before the King Brothers could take the ring. They made use of whatever was available against the Kings, including an assortment of objects from Todd’s trusty grocery cart and a kendo stick from Santa Claus. After several minutes of pure bedlam, both teams returned to the ring and the bell was sounded.
 photo 22_zpsbju2w4he.jpg

Again, it was The Commission on offense immediately and This Kings were never quite able to mount any offense. With the ref attending to a downed Ryan King, Gelistico took the opportunity to bend the rules by knocking out Jake King with the Rule book for the three count, ensuring them a title shot. While The Commission was celebrating in the ring, Kobra Kai Dojo, consisting of Mat Fitchett and Davey Vega stole in behind and attacked them.

56

After leaving The Commission lying in the ring, the despicable Geek Singh made off with The Rules.

Next out was Metro Pro Champion Ace Steel. He had quite a few unkind words for the people of Kansas City who said there was no one to contest him, so he was issuing an open challenge. He was quickly answered by the KC Wolves, Graham Bell and Luke Langley.
 photo 30_zpsdohswdqu.jpg

Since it would be a one-on-one match, Lucy Mendez, The Assistant Commissioner, said his opponent would be decided by a coin toss. The coin toss went to Langley, the bell sounded and the match began with Bell and Mendez ringside. Langley and Steel were pretty evenly matched, quickly changing from offense to defense several times until they both spilled outside the ring and Langley tweaked his knee. Langley threw Steel back in the ring as soon as he regained his feet, but this was the opening Steel needed.
 photo 20_zpsit7g8ps6.jpg

 photo 21_zpsb3xayl3l.jpg

He began to work on the injured left knee. After several minutes Bell entered the match, causing the disqualification. Steel grabbed the microphone and said he could beat them both in a handicap match and Lucy made the match. Bell came in on very strong offense and it looked like the Wolves had it locked up until Langley was tagged in and while the ref’s back was turned Mendez pulled Langely’s bad leg from under him to allow Steel to get the pin.

Brass Ring Challenge with Kraig Keesaman vs Devin Thomas vs “Dirty” Jake Dirden vs Mark Sterling for a chance at the Metro Pro Wrestling Title. Initially, Sterling slid outside the ring while Thomas and Dirden double-teamed Keesaman. When Keesaman went down, Sterling rolled in and attacked Thomas.

Keesaman and Sterling formed an uneasy alliance against Dirden and Thomas, while the King Brothers stood guard outside the ring, mostly informing the fans to “Shut Up”. With Dirden and Keesaman both outside, Sterling rolled up Thomas and held his tights to win the Brass Ring Challenge.

Trevor Murdoch and Derek McQuinn hit the ring for a promotional announcement of the opening of the Kansas City Pro Wrestling Training Facility on February 8.

It will be a place to train up and coming wrestlers as well as a place for current wrestler to work out and improve. They invited all the fans to spread the word. McQuinn is a personal trainer/professional wrestler and Murdoch is a former WWE talent who is now a wrestler on the independent scene.

After a 20-minute intermission, Mike Sydal vs Jon Webb was up.

 photo 28_zpslzay01n0.jpg

These two are both known for high-flying moves, acrobatics and quickness.

 photo 11_zps1ix0salv.jpg

They gave the crowd plenty of all three in a very good back and forth, fast-paced match that saw Sydal take the win with a roll up and a handful of tights.

New to the Metro Pro scene are the Riegel (pronounced Regal) Twins, Logan and Sterling to face their opponents Kobra Kai Dojo, with Geek Singh for the Metro Pro Tag Team Title.
 photo 10_zpseksb9jhz.jpg

This was once again a fast-paced, high flying match. Eventually, to the great delight of the fans, The Riegels appeared to have Kobra Kai Dojo on the run.

 photo 9_zpstdj1jmyu.jpg

Even when Geek Singh was distracting the attention of the referee, that didn’t slow the Riegels down. The man in the ring was hurt and the one on the apron rolled in for a little bit of that twin magic. At that point, Geek Singh pulled the ref out of the ring and distracted him while Fitchett hit one of the Riegels with the Rules and Vega low-kicked the other.

 photo 8_zpsns9z7wvx.jpg

 photo 7_zpspzmcbcye.jpg

This allowed Fitchett to get the pin and Kobra Kai Dojo retained the titles. When The Commission showed up for a measure of vengeance, Kobra Kai hotfooted it to the back.

Tracy Smothers with his sons hit the ring for an opening monologue and they talked about all the things that were wrong with Kansas City and how they couldn’t wait to get back to Tennessee. They bagged on The Chiefs, The Royals, The Kings, K-State, KU, the people of Kansas City.

 photo 6_zpsch6qakpa.jpg

Finally, Don Diablo was able to introduce the Math Magician. Smothers was again riled up because the crowd was chanting 1-2-3. He told the crowd not to chant 1-2-3, then he told them not to chant Tracy sucks which really got the crowd fired up. At one point, Math took a seat in the front row to watch the ranting. The opening bell sounded and after just a few moves, Smothers suggested a dance off.

 photo 4_zps7nkwaunf.jpg

 photo 55_zps7sq6qsdu.jpg

According to the crowd, neither opponent won the dance off and while Math Magician had his back to them, all three of the Smothers attacked him. Eventually, Math Magician was able to out-wrestle Smothers and when Smothers took him down for a pin, Math Magician reversed the roll up and got the win.

 photo 3_zpsxrckpiv1.jpg

Smothers took the mic again to tell the crowd how much he disliked them and he was glad to be leaving.

Next up was a battle of the Superheroes with Lucy Mendez as Batman and Miss Natural as Superman. Miss Natural showed us her ability to fly and was quite impressive.
 photo 2_zps2lmsafyg.jpg

 photo 1_zpsyqbcs4f0.jpg

Then she caught Mendez making fun of her and the match was on. Just when it looked like Superman would win, Batman grabbed Kryptonite from the ringside, disabling Superman and getting the pin.

Next up, for the Metro Pro Wrestling title was contender Beer City Bruiser Vs Champion Jeremy Wyatt.
 photo 27_zpssw1pwlvg.jpg

Of course, Strider had to come to the ring to “watch the match”. When Wyatt opened with several wrestling moves, Bruiser shouted “I want you to fight me, not wrestle.” No one could ever accuse Wyatt of not being accommodating. He unloaded with several shots to the head, threw Bruiser out of the ring, slammed his head onto the concession stand table and threw him into Todd’s cart of goodies. Then threw him back into the ring and asked if he had enough fighting. The match was filled with punches, chops and all out brawling. Another tussle sent them outside the ropes, which found Bruiser on the short end of the stick. While he was collecting his wits, Wyatt jerked him off the floor, pulled him to the bleachers and slammed his head onto the railing, raked his face across a zipper from the jacket of a fan and threw him back into the ring.

 photo 26_zpsygepioha.jpg

 photo 25_zpsegqlc3xw.jpg

Once back in the ring, it looked like Wyatt had a good hold on everything until Strider interfered once more. While Wyatt was down on the ropes, Bruiser distracted the referee while Strider choked Wyatt. As the match teetered back and forth and Strider continued to interfere, Wyatt found himself with the upper hand and was able to gain the pinfall. As he was celebrating his win, Sterling came to the ring to attack him, but Wyatt caught him coming into the ring and he rapidly exited out the other side where he stood with Strider.
 photo 24_zps8uctkuyw.jpg

Wyatt invited him to use his championship opportunity right then and there, but Strider held Sterling back. Eventually, Wyatt offered to leave the belt laying and walk away, win or lose, if Strider would agree to a match with him. Instead, Strider announced his opponent on the April 9th show.

3XWrestling 10th Year Anniversary Filled with Kisses, Chains, Ladders and Chairs

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 26, 2015

By Brian Kelley

For the past 10 years 3XWrestling has been thrilling fans in Iowa with family friendly action with 156 events. During that time they have showcased several of the top young stars in the country, former wrestling superstars and historic matches that have earned them a reputation as a must attend event in the area. Missouri Wrestling Revival was honored to cover the historic 10th year Anniversary event that started off with a chance for the wrestlers around the area to get the opportunity to learn from former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdoch during a pre-show seminar.

Students in Iowa took advantage of training with former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdoch.

When the doors open the wonderful fans of 3XW filled up so fast that the 3XW crew was seeking chairs for the fans at the arena. When the action started the fans were treated to a stacked night of wrestling that included a Dog Collar match between Maddog McDowell and Ryan Slade, where the loser would have to eat dog food, the first ever matchup between the former two time MWR Female Wrestler of the Year Stacey O’Brien and Malia Hosaka, Marek Brave challenge Kraig Keesaman for the 3XW Pure title, Devin Carter defend his wife’s honor against Rory Fox to go along with an epic dog collar ladder match between 3XWrestling Champion Jeremy Wyatt and Mark Sterling. I hope you enjoy these exciting photos of a night that will be remembered forever.

Metro Pro Wrestling Celebrates Five Years of Excitement

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 2, 2015

By Brian Kelley

Five years ago Kansas City was virtually a ghost town for pro wrestling. Thanks to the hard work, dedication and professionalism of Chris Gough pro wrestling would not only return, but earn a reputation as one of the most respected Independent promotions in the country by fans and wrestlers alike.

BOOKING METRO PRO BANNER

Chris Gough’s road to reviving pro wrestling in the Midwest started off as a graduate at the University of Missouri that opened the road for a job at the top as a writer for the WWE during the beloved Attitude era. Gough would return home in the Kansas City area to start a new life in the world of pro wrestling as a promoter, under the banner of Metro Pro Wrestling with a TV taping at the historic Memorial Hall on June 5, 2010. For the past five years fans have been able to keep up with Metro Pro Wrestling on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel , while YouTube features close to one hundred and fifty episodes of the red hot action.

We caught up with just a few of the people that have enjoyed the hard work of Chris Gough and MPW to get their thoughts on the past five years.

Former three time Metro Pro Wrestling Champion Jeremy Wyatt – Metro Pro has been thru its ups and downs. The downs have nearly been devastating, but the promotion has always came out on the other end even better. You take Metro and put it on one of the coast, and it’s easily considered one the top promotions in the country. Being in the Midwest, it somewhat gets overlooked. I couldn’t be prouder to have been a part of this promotion since day one. Kansas City was a ghost town for so long, Metro made wrestling a big deal here again. I’m obviously winding down, but knowing Metro is only going to continue to get bigger and better makes a small part of me wish I could wrestle forever.

Current Metro Pro Wrestling Kansas State Champion Mike Sydal – When Chris Gough started Metro Pro Wrestling, he revived wrestling in KC. He created something special for the Kansas Citians who love wrestling.

Metro Pro Wrestling fan Debbie ChmidlingI enjoy knowing that there is a well-run group of Professional wrestlers (emphasis on Professional) locally that we can go watch and enjoy. I enjoy the camaraderie, the feeling of community and knowing I am among friends. I am also proud that when wrestlers who aren’t local and travel in to visit mention Metro Pro, they always mention that Chris Gough is absolutely the quintessential promoter

Former one half of the Metro Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champions Mark McDowell – Metro Pro & Chris G. had brought back the missing tradition of pro wrestling to the K.C. region and continues to bring a magic that fans and families can continue to enjoy.

Metro Pro Wrestling Wrestler The Iceman – When Chris started Metro Pro you had a good feeling from day one it was going to be something great and since Metro Pro bursted on the scene 5 years ago and made KC a hotbed for professional wrestling again it has given KC something else to be excited about…The Royals, The Chiefs and for the past 5 years Metro Pro Wrestling…Thank you Chris and thank you Metro Pro fans!

Metro Pro Wrestling fan Glen Enloe – Metro Pro Wrestling has grown from a hope to a thriving reality in just 5 short years. It has been a combination of exciting & creative matches along with a friendly atmosphere both on stage & back stage puts it ahead of many independent wrestling promotions. While we all hoped it would bring back the good old days of KCK’s Memorial Hall wrestling, I think we are all a little surprised & pleased that Metro Pro has lived up to the bill & in some ways surpassed it. Long live Metro Pro!

Metro Pro Wrestling fan Paul Johnson – I like to think of metro pro wrestling as one big happy family. The connection between fans and wrestlers is awesome. It’s what makes it the success it is today and will be in the future.

Ring Announcer Dan Gier – “METRO… Chris has had to answer many challenges… to build, then maintain quality “Indy wrestling” plus the added lore of Kansas City Wrestling established in fans for decades not only the live performances but TV as well… and those challenges have been met.”

They say when you are having fun, time flies and that has been so true with Metro Pro Wrestling. Metro Pro fans have had the chance to meet the 8-time NWA World Champion Harley Race, while witnessing the NWA World Title would change hands for the first time since September 17, 1981, (Ric Flair defeated Dusty Rhodes) when Adam Pearce defeated Colt Cabana on July 21st, 2012. Many of today’s national superstars have made their way to MPW including Tommy Dreamer, Christopher Daniels, Santana G, T.J. Perkins, Stevie Richards, Ace Steel and Kyle O’Reilly.

Though it may have been a great treat to have the world wide superstars appear at Metro Pro Wrestling, it has been a plethora of young talents that have gave their heart and soul to the promotion that has made sure that the fans clear their calendar. Homegrown talent and former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdoch lead the way at the start by defeating Michael Strider for the TV title at Memorial Hall. Striders historic road to the championship, as well as his feud with Derek Stone that led to a Ric Flair eques retirement that told a story that touch the hearts of the MPW faithful.

In the past, Kansas City grew to love Race, Bob Geigle, Bulldog Bob Brown, Rufus R Jones, but todays fans will tell their kids about the great matches of Jeremy Wyatt, Bull Schmitt, Mark Sterling, Mike Sydal, the Iceman, Kobra Kai Dojo, ACH, and Showtime Bradly Charles that they saw live in action at  the Turner Rec Center .

Though the promotion celebrated their five year existence on June 6th, there is no doubt that the future of MPW promises to bring even more thrills and memories for years to come.

Strider runs for cover with Lucy Mendez.

Fans never know what to expect at a Metro Pro Wrestling event, so with the announcement of a special guest formally from WWE hinted on their website, the fans flocked the Turner Rec Center early. With a buzz in the air it was announced that the special guest interviewer formally of WWE was Lucha Underground’s Michael Striker. Fans can catch wrestler, now color commentator Michael Striker each and every week on the El Ray Network along side wrestling legend Vampiro. It could have been an easy payday for Striker to come to MPW and sign some autographs as he is a wrestling star seen on TV every week. But Michael Strider, who is now the MPW commissioner, has been on a quest to remove Jeremy Wyatt by proclaiming the next match that Wyatt loses will be his last at MPW shocked everyone in attendance when he enlisted Striker to challenge Wyatt if he was able to defeat Ricky Cruz at the beginning of the night.

The evenings main event would also be the return of ECW Legend Tommy Dreamer going to war in a NO-DQ match with the Worlds Fittest Wrestler, Mark Sterling.

Before we take a moment to check out the highlights of another exciting night of action of Metro Pro Wrestling, let me extended an invitation to you to become part of the MPW family on August the 8TH when they begin their march for five more years of action that you will not want to miss.

Their opponents then came out accompanied by former 3XW President Skylar Pierce. Sterling explained that being a former member of the Gentlemen’s Club, he knew they would be up to something tonight, so he contacted Skylar, the former 3XW president. Skylar received the OK from the Board of Directors to add an additional member to Sterling’s team…none other than Ring of Honor World champion Tyler Black!!

A look at the first half of 2010 in the MWR Coverage area. Nominate your favorite.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 16, 2010

By Brian Kelley

We are very close to the half year of 2010 and what a year it has been!

In the past few months both WWE and TNA have hosted PPV’S with WWE’S Elimination Chamber and TNA’S lockdown that was also headline with a fan interaction that allowed fans to meet stars such as Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Rob Vam Dam, Jeff Hardy and most of the rest of the TNA roster.

Old school fans can be happy that they have had a chance to meet the stars that brought memories that will last a lifetime when at TNA’S legends main event brought in the biggest stars of the 80’s and beyond with Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan and Sting.

The fun would keep coming when you were able meet other stars such as former WWE World Champion Bob Backland, Roddy Piper, Road Warrior Animal, Jimmy Snuka along with several other greats during Wrestling Legends on Tour.

On the Indy front I have to believe that everyone involved with their promotions needs to feel thrilled with the support and attendance from the fans as attendance and action has picked up for the most part at most shows.

Former WLW Wrestler  Dennis T McHawes released an autobiography called “Blood Tables and Chairs that allows fans to get a glimpse of the Indy scene not to long ago.

Mike Sydal continues his rise to the National spotlight after winning the PWI Rookie of the Year he followed that up by wrestling during WRESTLEMANIA weekend with Ring of Honor in a six man tag team race and earned the pin fall for his team.

Will Metro Pro Wrestling jump over the competition in 2010 with their debut at Memorial Hall on June 4th?

Till then lets look at 2010 shortly and what to forward to.

Let’s start out alphabetical.

3XWrestlingThe 2008 MWR Promotion of the year continues their standard of excellence with some great action. 3XW Heavyweight Champion Jeremy Wyatt and Ring of Honor a World Champion Tyler Black earned a standing ovation in April when the two went to a draw. Rory Fox who came close in 09 by taking out “The Belt Collector” won the May “Gauntlet for the Gold”. This could easily set up Wyatt vs. Fox feud part 2, one that would be great for the fans.

3XW Pure Wrestling Champion Kraig Kessaman has been rolling through the company using the deadly “Nordic Spike” maneuver and has not been pinned at 3XW in 23 months. While 3XW cruiserweight Champion Jimmy Rockwell came very close in defeating 3XW Champion Jeremy Wyatt at the Over the top show earlier this month

On a sad note the very popular tag team The High Flyers of Zach Thompson and Mike Sydal was forced by Todd Countryman to go against each other in a loser leaves town match that saw Thompson earned quite possibly the biggest win his short career by defeating the smoking red hot Sydal.

All American Pro Wrestling – Exciting feuds , shocking moments and near riots mixed in with former WWE and TNA Superstars brought AAPW among the top of the most talked about promotions in the area coverage.

The year started off with the very popular Edmund “Livewire” McGuire holding the AAPW Championship. During a title defense against the popular and powerful Mississippi Madman that would soon end. McGuire’s mountain to retain was huge but the backstabbing of McGuire’s best friend Shane Rich during the match would cost him the title and a feud is set to happen anytime. Rich was suspended for his actions. The fans and McGuire have been itching for a rematch BUT…

The Madman would find himself in the fire quickly as the 2008 MWR Wrestler of the Year Jeremy Wyatt came knocking for the belt. The Madman would retain but not before a near riot almost broke out. AAPW had no other option but to sign a rematch between the two at the very next show. Problems arose when Rich talked his way into the match making it a 3way and capitalizing by taking home the belt.

As of press time AAPW is set to bring to the Midwest WWE’S Jerry Lawler and Kevin Thorn and more AAPW matches at RENT ONE Park on May 22 in prior to a minor league baseball game. AAPW has also brought in TNA’S Andy Douglas and WWE/ECW’S Simon Dean…. We can all look forward to McGuire vs. Rich in the second half of the year.

High Voltage Wrestling – What High Voltage Wrestling lacked in amount of shows they made up for it in quality of matches and continuing their tradition of debuting some of the top stars in the St Louis area. During HVW’s first year they brought you “The Internaininal Superstar” Kahagas, TNA’S Santana G, The Hooligans, Matt Cage, Zero Gravity and Tony Kozina and in their second year they brought to you the very exciting Ryan Phoenix, Flash Flannigan, Dan the Manand Sir Bradley Charles.

Kahagas vs. Flash Flannigan was an instant hit and when the HVW Tag Champions the Hooligans went against the KC Killers the ropes would break but the action would not. Santana G would earn the respect of one of the greatest women wrestlers in the world MsChif and earn the respect of her and the two would team up once again.

Young Brandon Aarons would get a huge win for the fan favorites by defeating fellow young star Mike Sydal for the HVW Livewire Championship.

The HVW Champion has been defending the title around world and looks to face on all challenges in 2010.

Independent Hardcore Wrestling– IHW has been filled with packed shows with action throughout the building. Filled with stars who do not get as much hype like Billy McNeil, Steve Kennedy, Eric Allen, Mephisto and Brandon Aarons they have made themselves a legit promotion and giving the fans their money’s worth.

Former TNA Star Mickie Knuckles and the Great Cheyenne continue the improvement of the  women wrestling Midwest while Eric Allen’s exciting Illinois state Championship shocked the Midwest. IHW Champion Brandon Aarons match with Kennedy was an instant classic. MR Late Nite looks to make his mark in the Midwest to finish off 2010.

IHW heats up the summer in 2010 with a stacked card on June 12th in Dupo Illinois when Mickie Knuckles returns to take on Mia Martinez, SLAM The Canadian Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Tony Kozina will take on exciting Bailey Mannix; Champions will collide when IHW Champion Aarons will meet IHW Illinois Champion Allen in a street fight.

IWA Productions – One of the biggest announcements of the first half had to do with IWA P bringing at their free Wednesdays show last week when non other than ICP came into bring fans to their feet. So much excitement that IWA P had to turn fans away do to a fire code. ALL for free.

In January they brought in former WWE Superstar the Honky Tonk Man and their students stepped up to provide a much talked about match between Christian Rose and Danny Cannon ladder match.

A mixture of free shows and paid shows that has also showcased Matt Cage taking on former WWE Champion Eugene, Ladies star Ann Brookstone along with “Homicidal” Steven Davis provide the fans with some top notch excitement.

Metro East Championship Wrestling– Wrestling in Woodriver provides the fans with an exciting night to hang with friends and family. The promotion had a set back when the MECW had to announce that champion Mannix was unable to defend due to an injury. Mannix though respect for his talent was hated for his actions meant that possibly one of the fan favorites such as Devin Carter or the “Kid” Evan Money could get their chance as MECW Gold.

Imagine the disappointment when bad guy Eric Allen was able to win the 8 man tournament and gain his second title in months. Who will be able to take the title back from EA? Will it be Carter in his rematch on the 22nd, or will Gabriel Brimstone, Brian Scrilla, or the returning Shawn Santel come back to glory.

MECW Tag team champions The Bayou Outlaws are one of the most underappreciated teams in the Midwest and loved by the fans.

On a National level MECW can hang their head up high Barry Ryte in his opportunity to appear at the 14th annual ECWA Super 8 Tournament later this summer on Sat. July 10, 2010 in Newark DE.

MMWA-SICWThe 2009 MWR Promotion of the Year has seen some exciting new faces and old friends join the veterans of the South Broadway Athletic Club. Impressive Dave Vaughn has taken on all challenges in his way including the powerful Donnovan Ruddick.
Speaking of Ruddick the Manager of Champions Travis Cook looks to take him to the top as he has signed him to his stable “The Connections.” With the skills of Ruddick and the mind of Cook these two could be unstoppable.

Brandon Espinosa has returned with a vengeance and is currently the MMWA-SICW JR Heavyweight Champion as well as the MMWA-SICW Battle Royal Champion. Will he set his sights on becoming a Triple Crown championship?

Life is not all good in the world of Travis Cook; he has agitated the returning MMWA-SICW Superstar Ron Powers and Danny Boy. In Cooks favor is the fact that Gary Jackson has also wanted a piece of his old rival Powers.

On a National scene the St Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame that is located at the SBAC presented Ric Flair, Bobby Hennan, Dory Funk JR and Baron Von Raschke with their HOF Plaques at the TNA Fan interaction.

What Midwest Superstars will make their debut at MMWA-SICW in the rest of 2010? I can not wait to find out.

New Midwest Wrestling – The newest promotion at MWR, New Midwest have been around for a long time entertaining fans in Sprinfield Illinois.

The NMW Roster brings together an exciting roster with Cory Carter, Guy Smith, Ryan Phoenix, Dan the Man and Blake Steel as well the New Midwest Wrestling Champion Jonathan Magnus.

New Midwest Wrestling returns this week with Capital Punishment 2010 as Magnus have his title threatened when Rip Mystic comes after him.

NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling– NWA Dynamo has slowly been building steam heading into the second half of 2010. Home of the NWA Missouri Champion Davey Vega and NWA Central States Championship Mark Sterling they brought us the battle of Champions when the two took on each other during their May 1 show where Vega tapped out to the 2009 MWR Wrestler of the Year.

NWA Missouri Champion Vega will look to get back on track when he takes on Dragon Gate star Kyle O’Reilly on May 22nd.

Like I said a quiet year so far for this top promotion but look for them to sprint to the top in 2010.

NWA Supreme – MWR was honored to be invited to check out this exciting promotion early this year and we were impressed. The giant Bear ST Pierre and the electrifying Da Cobra brings to the ring a fast paced wrestling show with a punch in the Face.

NWA Supreme Champion Da Cobra has been red hot and will look to add Danny Cannon on his list of men he sent home packing. Bear ST Pierre has survived the onslaught on Jeremy Wyatt and De Andre King and Guy Smith and on May 29 he will have the formidable foe of Christian Rose looking to take home the title.

. The Hooligans and the Hybrids tore each other apart in the cage and it looks to only getting hotter as the summer comes around.

Fan have to be excited as the NWA Supreme brings you the NWA Midwest Championship match between the Shiek with Joey Eastman and Silas Young as well on the 29th.

Pro Wrestling Epic – One of the youngest promotions in the MWR Coverage area has been working hard to get respect. Signing some of the top names in the sport they boast some of the top talents in the Midwest today.

One fallback to that statement is that the PWE Champion Keith Walker has been in Japan meaning that he is unable to defend the title as needed. Even with Walker out the states they have the new PWE US Champion Brandon Aarons and the PWE tag team Champions Zero Gravity on their roster.

At their only show of the year the night started of with Mark Sterling as the PWE US Champion. Sterling defeated Mike Sydal then announced to the crowd that he was not done. He would be more than happy to beat anyone else in the locker room. Aarons showed true heart by answering the call even though he was defeated by Wyatt earlier in the night. Amazingly Aarons would defeat Sterling and become the PWE US Champion.

PWE and Aarons returns with their biggest test to date when PWE US Champion Brandon Aarons takes on Ring of Honor World Champion Tyler Black go at it in a match that you will not want to miss.

Pro Wrestling Phoenix– The faction known as Murder Milita looked to have PWP on their knees and in total control at the start of the year. The Murder Militia (Jeremy Wyatt, #1 Brett Young, Mark Sterling, Joey Daniels & Jayden Draigo) would find that Team PWP (PWP Heavyweight Champion ”Babyface” Tony Cortez, Abu Colossus, Jaysin Strife, Chris Havius & Donnie Peppercricket) was not going to back down for nothing.

The bomb is about to go off in the name of WAR Games this coming Saturday. Will the Militia continue to leave the PWP Wrestlers and fans in fear heading into 2010?
Young David Clark, Jimmy Rockwell and Zac James is set to battle in a ladder match for the chance to get a chance at any PWP Championship that night as well.

The PWP Champion Babyface Tony Cortez has defeated Jeremy Wyatt, Joey Daniels Jimmy Rockwell and Jaysin Strife since becoming the Champion last December.

World League WrestlingHarley Race’s WLW took their time to get back in the game in 2010 but it was well worth the wait.

Starting off the year they had a tournament to crown new WLW Tag Champions and lo and behold Steve Fender and Mark Sterling walked away with the coveted tag team titles. Sterling and Fender are two of the most rounded wrestlers in singles, together they are scary good.

On the Singles from the WLW Title has been filled with action as the powerful Trent Stone held the title till in front of over 300 people in Richmond former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdoch pinned him in a leather strap match to regain the title.

It won’t be easy for Murdoch as Stone, Brian Breaker along with impressive young stars Jack Gamble, Ryan Drago, the Cancun Kid and Eathon Wright will all have their eyes to get to the top of the Mountain.

The WLW Ladies Champion Amy Hennig finds herself with competition all around as TNA’S Santana G earned a DQ victory from Hennig and the unknown Angelus Layne made her debut at WLW Keokuk IA. Some of the most exciting matches in women’s wrestler may well come from WLW.

That is a look at some of the promotions in the first half of the year. We are asking for the Promotions, Wrestlers and Fans to send in their thoughts on who was the best of the best in the first half year at MWR.

There will not be a winner announced for this but this will help the MWR Awards committee to not forget in the 2010 MWR Awards who is deserving. In each category there is some strong competition if the vote was to be voted on today I could not guess who would walk away the winners.
