LWA Arena Report Jan. 3

This was the second night of the LWA’s double shot weekend. There was a very nice attendance of 195. The fans were excited to see Mike Quackenbush who has wrestled through the world and is the current NWA junior world heavyweight champion. They were also looking forward to the main event with was a match that was sponsored by MWR as one of the best of the mid west match series. That match would feature Tyler Black a current ROH star wrestling Jeremy Wyatt the current and reigning LWA heavyweight champion.

 

 Luke Roberts the LWA president made his way to the ring stating that he had someone that wanted to make an announcement. That person was none other than Mike Quackenbush. He stated that he wanted Evan Gelistico in a match due to the fact that Gelistico and Abernathy caused his match with Nick Tyson the prior evening to be thrown out. He wanted no interference to be guaranteed and that is when Commissioner Adam Raw stepped to the ring and assured him that he would make sure that that did not happen.

 

The opening match was a six way match featuring Dorian Victor, Pierre Abernathy, Adam Rich,  Shamus O’Flannery, Eric Allen, and Shorty Biggs. Dorian made his ring entrance still begging for money from the fans saying that the Bavarian Boy was sick and that he needed money to take care of him, seeing him begging was quite funny. As the match got under way you saw quite a few tags between the different competitors. Then it all broke down and you had wrestlers inside and outside the ring. At one point five of the six wrestlers were outside fighting, Shamus was left in the ring and he excited the crowd when he delivered a “Helo” a head over heel suicide dive taking out his five competitors. Chaos was all around the ring,  when Dorian saw a chance to strike and hit Shorty with a low blow and covered him for the win. I don’t remember who it was, but someone made off with Dorian’s cup of money.

 

The second match of the evening had XXX Jordan Lacey facing of with Mephisto. This was a pretty lopsided match with XXX in control of most of the match. The match was stopped by the ref as XXX was on top of Mephisto, smashing him with  brutal strikes to the head. XXX was dominating for the second night in a row by defeating his opponents with a knockout.

 

The fans were treated to a LWA rematch of “The Future” Donovan Ruddick and Mark Sterling. Before the match got started Mark took the mike and told Donovan that you told me the last time we wrestled that as soon as you won the LWA title that you would give me the first shoot, since you are the number one contender why don’t you put in on the line instead. Donovan agreed they shook hands, which was nice to see and the match was on. This was a very high impact match and it was also a see saw battle. Donovan must have done something wrong because when he picked Sterling up he grimaced in a lot of pain, with sheer guts and power Ruddick finished this one with a razors edge and a cover for the one, two, and three. Many of the LWA Management came out to escort the former champion out of the ring.

 

The next match was between two gentlemen that I had not seen wrestle before it was a match between Hunter Matthews and Shane Hollister. This match was very enjoyable.  It saw mat based wrestling, hard strikes, chain wrestling, and even some high flying. This match had a lot of near falls. Hunter won the match with a pile driver. Shane received a round of applause as he left the ring. After the match there was an intermission.

 

The second half of the night started with a tag title match between the champs the Ego Express and BabeWatch. The Egos had a very entertaining entrance with the belts strapped around the both of them. This was a back and forth match, with neither team letting the other team get much of an advantage. The Ego express was able to take the victory in this one to retain their titles. I sure this is not the last time we will see these to teams face off.

 

The next match of the evening saw Gary the Barn Owl face off with IWA-TX U30 champion Nick Tyson. This match saw the two men battle inside and outside the ring. At one point I thought Gary would be counted out, but he managed to make it back. I guess that was what he needed, they wrestled for a few more minutes and Gary pinned Nick to become the new IWA-TX U30 Champ.

 

The match prior to the main event saw Mike Quakenbush versus Evan Gelistico. This was a fast paced and hard hitting match. They both put all they had into it. At one point Quackenbush had Gelistico set up for a Quacken driver and Pierre showed up to distract him, but Raw chased him off. There was a little more action before Quackenbush set him up for a Quacken Driver and connected with it for the pin

 

The main event was just plain awesome, it was Tyler Black versus Jeremy Wyatt. This was a very fun match for wrestling fans. These two had a lot to prove to one another, and I think the accomplished it. Lots of near falls in this one. The end came when Tyler went for a flying cross body block from the second turnbuckle and missed. From there Wyatt rolled him up in a small package for the win and to retain his belt.

 

This was a good night of wrestling. Thanks go out to the wrestlers and the LWA.

NWA Dynamo Pro – Wrestles for a new Heart for Jimmie Bass January 31 in Ottawa Kansas

Christmas time has come and gone, your family and friends have come together in the season of giving. Pro Wrestling has a long history of giving not only during the Christmas season throughout the year. During the year there are many wrestling company’s support fundraisers. They include Toys for Tots, school functions, Relay for life, just to name a few. The wrestlers and the company involved take great pride on helping others. The relationship between the wrestling community and their fans are like none other.

Just prior to Christmas, a tragedy in the Nilwood Illinois when a fire caused a family to not only lose their house but sadly the mother. New Midwest Wrestling quickly stepped and promoted a show to help raise funds for the family.

This past weekend my heart was touched when Larry Barber and NWA-Dynamo Pro Wrestling brought to my attention a fundraiser they were doing for a young boy named Jimmie. Larry also sent me pictures and here is the heartfelt letter that his grandmother Charlene Bernabe sent.

Jimmie Bass is a 5 yr. old little boy from Ottawa awaiting a heart transplant. He is now on a heart pump and cannot leave the hospital in Iowa City Iowa until he receives a new heart. He was born with 3 chambers to the heart. The arteries were all routed backwards at birth. Causing the blood to bypass the lungs. He also had a hole in 2 of the chambers. He has undergone several open heart surgeries to try to help fix this problem, but it was not successful. There was too high of pressure in the heart. His heart just was not able to go anymore, that is why he is on a pump. There is a web site that has a video about lil Jimmie and the pump, due to it is not FDA approved. Jeremy “The Rebel” Wyatt vs. Former WWE and ECW Superstar Al Snow

Al Snow is well rounded with years of experience; he was one half of the former WWE Tag team champions (with Mick Foley), he can beat you in many ways. Snow was recently seen in TNA when he helped Kurt Angle defeat Rhino by distracting and slapping special guest enforcer in the face.

Wyatt was able to get the victory in a hard hitting match in November when he defeated ROH Superstar Davey Richards in a brutal hard hitting match Will Wyatt’s intensity be used against him by the wily veteran? This should be wrestling classic.

There last match in Pomona Kansas, earned them the match of the month for November. Young was able to walk out with the Kansas Championship that night. Cook was able to impress the NWA that he was deserving of another chance to win the belt. This rematch has many interesting questions surrounding it. Young has years of experience to his advantage, was he showing all that he had to offer in that match. Cook on the other hand had his most profiled match against Young and came very close to winning. Will Cooks confidence be at such a high level that the Champion can not overcome the energy that the contender brings?

LWA Yuletide Terror Dec. 20 Arena Report

Every time LWA puts on a show, fans expect good wrestling, good entertainment and cheap beer. On Dec. 20 in House Springs, MO they delivered just that—and then some. With 130 in attendance, nearly every match set the bar for the next, and after the extreme tables, ladders and chairs match, not one person left the Knight of Columbus Hall in disappointment.

Billy McNeill and Evan Gelistico kicked off the show with a stellar performance that was flooded with animosity and anger. McNeill took the fight to Gelistico from the get-go, using his highflying tactics to his advantage. The former Bearded Men member slowed the pace shortly thereafter and connected with high impact moves on a number of occassions. Both men showed their athleticism and skill, but McNeill emerged victorious on this exchange. It seems the beard guide infographic they published as a joke was not so accurate (a joke statistic about their chances of winning in correlation to their beard sizes vs the opponent).

Following that stellar performance, Dorian Victor was scheduled to take on Shorty Biggs, but prior to Biggs’ introduction, Victor tried collecting money from the fans for a ‘sick’ Bavarian Boy, who happened to be sitting in the front row. Not one to leave empy handed, Victor did obtain three dollars from Biggs. However, he said it was to buy Victor a bra, not for Bavarian Boy. Victor put the money in his tights, and when Biggs and Victor tied up, Biggs retrieved his money. Many fans, specifically the superfans, did not care for this match—at all. These men put on a decent match with Biggs defeating Victor, despite the heckling.

Luke Roberts then made his way to ringside, accompanied by chants of “ASSASSINATE.” He announced that Vice President Jewells scheduled Jeremy Wyatt in a title match in Council Bluffs, IA. His next bit of news got a much better reaction. Roberts revealed that the briefcase he has carried around for so long contained the LWA Tag Team titles, and that the Tables, Ladders and Chairs match would determine the first-ever LWA Tag Team Champions, which elicited an “L-W-A” chant.

The next match put Mephisto against “Milwaukee’s Best” Rick Stone, but one could hardly call it a match. Mephisto pummeled Stone before the bell rang. Stone did not have a chance to get in any offense, and Mephisto quickly overpowered Stone and won the bout.

Gary the Barnowl took on “Future” Donovan Ruddick in the final match of the LWA title tournament. These men gave it their all and took remarkable risks in pursuit of the coveted title. The fans followed them with every kick, punch and powerbomb. Gary fought with every ounce of strength he had and then some. He kicked out of Ruddick’s finishing move, planted Ruddick to the ground and even attacked him ferociously on the outside of the ring. At one point, it appeared that Referee Eric Davis had reached a 10-count, then he said, “It’s not going to end like that,” and he helped Gary get Ruddick back in the ring. Despite multiple two counts for both men, Ruddick’s overwhelming power became too much for Gary, and the Ruddick earned a hard-fought victory. After the match, Ruddick extended his hand to Gary, who accepted, and then chants for Gary erupted.

After the intermission, Pierre Abernathy wrestled “The Technical Messiah” Nick Tyson in a classic match. Gelistico accompanied Abernathy to the ring, but the referee immediately removed him from ringside, which may have slightly altered Abernathy’s plans. Tyson and Abernathy matched each other hold for hold, neither wanting to give an inch. Just when it seemed like Tyson had the match won—and the Submission Squad would be 0-2—Gelistico re-emerged and interfered. The distraction allowed Abernathy to pick up a spoiled win, but Tyson came off looking like the better man.

The newly appointed LWA Commissioner Adam Raw made his way to the ring following the match sporting aviator glasses, which he threw out to a fan in the audience. After instigating a side v. side verbal war between the super fans and the rest of the audience, Raw announced that Wyatt successfully defended the LWA title. Just as Raw was about to go into a promo, the lights went off, and Mephisto confronted Raw, who responded to the entrance with, “With an entrance like that, I would’ve expected The Undertaker.” Mephisto put the locker room on notice, in a sense, by saying that he has been looking for someone just like him. He found this person in Shroud, who has yet to be introduced in the LWA. After proclaiming that, Mephisto said the era of violence and vulgarity has arrived.

In the following bout, B.A.B.E.WATCH was supposed to make their return. However, due to “Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons’ extracurricular activities (according to “Thee” Brandon Espinosa), he was not able to wrestle. Therefore, Espinosa introduced Mike Sydal as an interim member of the tag team. Sydal said that Espinosa and himself have five things in common—“Shampoo, condition, shampoo, condition, (slight pause), condition.”

Shamus O’ Flannery and Super Electro took on the tandem, while Aarons observed the proceedings from ringside. Sydal and Espinosa worked surprisingly well together, despite having to contend with Super Electro, who shocked them every time they tried to lock up or attack him. In the end, Espinosa and Sydal defeated O’ Flannery and Super Electro. Then, adding fuel to the fire, so to speak, Sydal dumped ice water on Super Electro, which caused severe damage to the electric individual.

“Spitfire” Davey Vega, Dingo and The Ego Express (“Spoiled” Steven Kennedy and K.C. Karrington) wasted no time in starting the TLC match, as they busted through the hanging backdrop screen before either team made their entrance. Nobody was left unharmed, as chairs were brought into the mix early on, and the tables and ladders shortly followed suit. Fighting inside and outside of the ring, both of these teams proved that they deserved the belts. Every chair shot, every slam through a table, every punch, kick or slap had meaning behind it. The hatred between the two teams translated to the fans. Nevertheless, only one team stood above the broken tables, the battered bodies and the deformed steel chairs. That team was the Ego Express, LWA’s first ever—and most deserving—tag team champions. As risk-takers and innovators, these four men ended LWA’s year on a high note, possibly giving the match of the year for the Midwest.

Hoping to kick off the new year right, LWA will hold its inaugural double-shot, with the first show in Granite City, IL on Jan. 2 and the following night in O’ Fallon, IL.

Your Trip to Space Mountain – NWA presents Dynamo Pro Wrestling 11-29-2008

I won’t lie to you, I was excited about going to Pomona Kansas for professional wrestling. How could you not be? The night would include a NWA Kansas Championship match between #1 Brett Young taking on Tyler Cook, Dingo was scheduled to have a rematch with Jeremy Wyatt. A tag team dream match between the LONRS and the Ego Express plus ROH Superstar Davey Richards would be in action as well. Yes, I was excited about all of those stellar matches, but what really excited me was hooking back up with my friends in Kansas before the holidays.

 

Dubray and I got into the Pomona, Kansas, a small town of less than a 1000 that I had never heard of, much less been too. The NWA has advertised a meet and greet with the fans at a restaurant called Buzzards Pizza. I had ran into a wrestling fan in St Louis the week before, Jonathan Jones, who I had told about this night of wrestling. To be honest, I really didn’t believe that he would make it. Lo and behold, Jonathan called me to let me know he was in town, so he caught up with us at Buzzards. While the wrestlers met with the fans, we enjoyed some of the best pizza I had ever tasted. Wrestling fans if you ever hear that a wrestling show is coming to Pomona, you now have two reasons to go.

 The NWA had invited us to come and give away a MWR T-shirt to one of the fans at the show. While my better looking half, Dubray met them at the door Jonathan and I watched as fans kept coming through the door. I was thinking to myself, “is the whole town here?”

 

Before the match started, a 3 bell salute with a moment of silence, was asked by Larry Barber from the crowd, due to a tragedy within the community. A young man age 14, Treavor Wormell, had lost his life while another boy Preston Bunyard was in critical condition after a head on collision with a combine. Everyone at MWR, extends their thoughts and prayers to both families.

 

With the building packed, the announcer introduced the first match, a six way between Domino Rivera, Brandon Espinosa (In a pretty pink and blue outfit), Kraig Kessman, Mike Sydal (Skipping into the ring), Davey Vega and Adam Rich. I turned to Jonathan and said “There’s a lot of talent in the ring right now.” Rivera, who is a stone cold assassin normally, couldn’t resist teasing Sydal and Espinosa that they should be a couple before the match started, which prompted laughter throughout the building.

 

Throughout the match Sydal was able to use his athletic ability to impress the crowd. Espinosa hit a beautiful dropkick on Vega, but Vega would later return the favor when Espy was outside the ring, Vega went to the top rope and his a flying body press onto both Espy and Sydal and at the same time that happened Kessman went to the top rope on the other side and hit a flying ax handle on Rivera. Exciting action from all 6 men ensued during the match. Rivera seemed to have the match won when he hit a killer clothesline but when he went for another move, Kessman hit a snap mare DDT for the win.

 

Aaron Scott and Brandon Marino were up next, the two mirrored each other in looks, power and moves. What one could do the other would match. Aaron was nasty from the get go and threatened to rip off Marino’s arm at one point of the match. Powerful kicks and big moves were abundant in this encounter. Marino made the mistake of going to the top for a high risk move but Aarons was one step ahead and moved out of the way which led to Marino hurting his leg. Aarons smelled a weakness and capitalized on it with a sharpshooter for the victory. I know I saw more wrestling in this seventeen minute match than I have seen on my TV screen the past 2 weeks. Trust me when I say you will hear of these two guys before it is said and done.

 

#1 Brett Young came to the ring to let the fans know that he is the NWA Kansas State Champion, a fact that makes him better than each and everyone of the fans in attendance. Tyler Cooks name echoed all through the building as he entered the ring. The Champion showed little respect for the #1 contender by slapping him in the middle of the ring. Cook returned the favor with a slap of his own. Young went for a cheap shot, but Cook was ready with the block and a punch. Young wisely bailed out of the ring, and my guess was he finally realized for the first time that this match was not going to be a walk in the park.

 

 The ever popular Shorty Biggs was to take on every fans enemy, Pierre Abernathy, who on this night was accompanied by manager Sadie Blaze. Biggs had Abernathy rattled early on with his tomfoolery. Abernathy bailed out of the ring, Biggs went with him and chased him around the ring. Blaze then made his presence known by hiding under the ring with sneak attack. The crowd was not happy that the European scumbag had taken the cheap way and the building rang with USA chants. Shorty would get the advantage only to have Blaze interfere and negate it. Blaze attempted to help one more time, but Shorty took advantage of a miss hit for the 1 2 3 win going into the intermission.

 

At Intermission the wrestlers came out and met with the fans to take pictures and thank them for coming. While they did that, Jonathan went and bought the Jeremy Wyatt and Tyler Cook t-shirts, and I caught up with my friends Logan and Alex. I was able to speak to some of the wonderful members of the Masons. The night of wrestling was also a fundraiser for the Masons. They explained to me in more detail of what their organization is about.  It is amazing what the Masons do to help others in need. 

 

After intermission we were treated to what I’d like to think was a triple main event. The  first match was two of the best tag teams in the Midwest, The LONRS (Mark Sterling and Darrien Sanders) taking on the Ego Express ( Steven Kennedy and KC Karrington) and  led by the always talking Tiffany Lefane.

 

The LONRS were home in Kansas, but the two let the fans know they wanted nothing to do with them. The match went back and forth with Lefane’s presence felt at major moments of the match. This would prove to be true when the LONRS went for a top rope piledriver on Kennedy. Lefane took advantage and distracted Sterling, Karrington meanwhile took out Sanders and pushed him out of the ring to allow Kennedy to roll up. The LONRS were furious and vowed to get revenge on the Express when the NWA returns January 31, in Ottawa Kansas.  The Ego Express and the LONRS had lived up to the expectations of Jonathan who stated that this was his vote for the match of the night.

 

Dingo was scheduled to take on his rival Jeremy Wyatt but due to an injury was unable to make it. He was replaced by Ring of Honor Superstar Davey Richards. As soon as the announcer stated who Wyatt’s opponent was, I knew there was going to be a war. Wyatt normally is able to overwhelm his opponents with his intensity but Richards is one of the few men who can match him and then some. Wyatt and Richards beat each other from one side of the ring to the other. At one point Wyatt threw Richards out of the ring onto a group of fans in the front row with ring rail in tow. Wyatt hit a belly to back suplex for the victory against the ROH Superstar. This was a pure wrestling classic with no gimmicks required.

Davey Richards did not care if Wyatt is the number one ranked wrestler in the Midwest. He delivered brutal strikes throughout the match.

 

 

 

 

 

That last match could have been the main event anywhere else in the country but on this night we had the NWA Kansas Championship Match. Brett Young walked to the ring and seemed to regain his composure from the earlier meeting with the young Tyler Cook.  The place was shouting “Let’s go Tyler” but Young is a master in the squared circled and slowed the pace down so that the fans and Cook were unable to get the quick start. When Cook would get the upper hand, Young wisely took a step back and never let him get in a routine. Young decided that he would just take the easy win by going to the locker room and calling it a night but Cook took it upon himself to bring him back to the ring. The fans were ecstatic when Cook turned it up a notch and proceeded to punish Young outside the ring. At one moment, Cook held Young while a Kansas masked fan delivered a Ric Flair chop.

Playing around with the fans may have been a mistake because when Cook threw back inside the ring. Young struck quickly before Cook could get back in the ring to get the advantage. Every time Cook would strike, Young had an answer.

 

With the referees back turned Young took the pad of the turnbuckle. The time that it took allowed Cook to recover, which led me to believe that we would have a new champion. I was sure that Young’s evil deeds would backfire on him. With Cook going for the pin, Young powered out and threw Cook head first into the uncovered turnbuckle. With the challenger knocked out Young was able to get the victory and retain the NWA Kansas Championship in an exciting match.

He already has one victory of a ROH star when he defeated Davey Richards in November. Wyatt is ready to prove to the world that one of the best wrestlers is in the LWA. NWA Returns to the Kansas City area, November 29th, with Ring of Honor Star Davey Richards.

Kansas Wrestling fans have been patiently waiting for wrestling to return. They will be rewarded November 29th, when NWA Midwest presents Dynamo Pro Wrestling in Pomona, Kansas. Fans will have a chance to see some of the best athletes that Kansas City has to offer, as well as top wrestlers around the Midwest.

 

NWA Kansas Champion #1 Brett Young vs. Tyler Cook

 

The main event will feature one of the most charismatic wrestlers with Brett Young defending his title against Tyler Cook. What will be Young’s strategy will be anyone’s guess as he draws on his years of experience. That advantage has helped him win the Championship when he defeated Tony Cortez, Hype Gotti, Jeremy Wyatt, Jaysin Strife and Darrien Sanders in an elimination match in March before taking the title from Mark Sterling that very night.

 

On the other side of the ring will be Tyler Cook. In the absence of Kansas wrestling he has been in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa working hard and improving his game. The NWA has taken notice and rewarded him with a dream opportunity to come back home and win the Kansas Championship. Cook will have to use his youth and speed to reach that goal. Many have dubbed Cook as the future of Midwest wrestling, has his time come this soon?

 

The LONRS vs. The Ego Express

 

Kansas fans are very aware of the tactics and talent of both Mark Sterling and Darrien Sanders, but for the very first time they will see them collectivity as the LONRS. They have quickly become one of the most talked about tag teams in the Midwest. With mind games and quick tags they keep their opponents guessing, with that moment of uncertainty Sanders can strike with a vicious kick and end it quickly.

 

Though the Ego Express are not household names in the Kansas area, let it be known that after this match they will not be forgotten. Spoiled Steven Kennedy and KC Karrington are arguably the best tag team in St Louis. Exciting, fast and electrifying you can never turn your head because you never know what you will miss when these two hit the ring.

NWA Missouri Champion Dingo vs. Jeremy “The Rebel” Wyatt

 

These two had a classic in August in St Louis that had the Kansas native within seconds of becoming the Missouri Champion. When the smoke cleared from the battle of the two best wrestlers in the Midwest, Dingo had retained the title when he defeated Wyatt with a moonsault press. Out of respect Dingo offered a handshake after the match, but Wyatt delivered a cheapshot then proceeded to land a vicious hammerlock DDT and left the Champion knocked out to end of the evening.

 

Though Wyatt may be in his hometown, Dingo is loved and respected from the Kansas fans. Dingo is the Ric Flair of the Midwest, in the respect that you can always count on him for a great match, Wyatt this year has reached that plateau as well.  

 

Will Dingo be able to get revenge or will Wyatt even the score on one of the few men that has been able to pin the Rebel in O8?

Wise men say that there is always a calm before the storm. This was never so true as heading into the Lethal Wrestling Alliance’s Circus Maximus 2008. While driving to the Knights of Columbus building in O’Fallon, IL on July 12, 2008, there was a light rain and a coolness in the air before the show started. Throughout the year, LWA has been very active on the independent scene yet at times the quality of the shows have been questioned by not only the fans and the self proclaimed superfans, but also acknowledged by LWA management when they posted the “State of the LWA Address” to the LWA website on April 7, 2008. In the address, they asked for the fans to stick around and promised a wild ride along the way.

The ring was on the second floor of the building and as my girlfriend and I headed toward our seats, we saw our friends from SLAMZONE selling all our favorite wrestling merchandise and the Knights selling concessions to satisfy our hunger. As Dubray and I sat in the front row, she decided to drink a beer (which was only one dollar) and we got ready for a good time.

The show started with Paul Parker introducing Luke Roberts who spoke about the importance of why he should be the LWA President and said he was looking out for the fans and planned on watching some LWA Wrestling with the fans themselves and he sat in the front row near me as the first match was announced.

The first match pitted B.A.B.E.WATCH Brandon Aarons and Brandon Espinosa against Shamus O’Flannery & Mephisto. B.A.B.E.WATCH has been on quite a roll in the LWA and their teamwork seemed to be the difference between the two teams, as Espinosa was able to pin O’Flannery while Aarons made sure Mephisto was unable to help his partner.

Surprisingly, the next was a match that I thought should have been closer to the main event. The LWA Medallion holder Jeremy Wyatt defended the Medallion against LWA Favorite XXX Jordan Lacey. Lacey has been able to defeat the Monster and current Champ Donovan Ruddick so I knew that in match Wyatt would have his hands full and Wyatt must have known as well because he threw everything at Lacey. With Lacey out of the ring trying to catch a breath, Wyatt was in the ring when he decided to suicide dive onto Lacey, I told Dubray to “get ready here he comes” and stood up to catch a picture of the action. Wyatt slammed into Lacey and I hear a THUD coming from Wyatt’s head on the cement floor which stopped me from taking pictures, hoping that he was alright. I looked over to the right of me and there was my girlfriend on the floor with her legs in the air by the rail with an empty cup in her hand. She was getting help up. I was laughing, and asked her why she did not get out of the way when I warned her to move.

The LWA family was first class and offered to get Princess a band aid. I looked over and half the room was concerned for her health with this tiny little scratch on her leg. I joked with her that Wyatt had went head first in the pavement and here she is getting babied with her small little boo boo. Dubray apologized to the fans next to us for giving them a beer bath and Wyatt was able to defeat Lacey with the Crash Landing and we had started the night off with two very good matches.

The action was soon restarted as we had ourselves a four-way with four men who have made names for themselves around the Midwest. They went at it to prove to the LWA crew why they should be among the LWA elite. The four corners were filled with talent. In one corner you had the ladies’ choice Tyler Cook. In the second corner was the Livewire himself, Edmund McGuire. In the third corner was the unpredictable Payday Patterson. To finish off the four corner affair was the ultra talented Mark Sterling. Payday was able to disrupt the match with some crazy antics at the start and went back and forth with moves galore until Tyler was able to pin McGuire with a Perfectplex. This was a big win for one of the most underrated wrestlers in the Midwest as he hopes to catapult himself towards the top of the LWA.

Intermission was here and everyone that I spoke to was very pleased with the first half of wrestling. Dubray went to get another beer, and Chuck from SLAMZONE asked her if she was going to drink it or spill it. She thought it was funny because not only did she lose a beer with the fall from the Wyatt/Lacey match, but also during the four way when the guardrail was knocked back towards us during some wild action. Dubray’s beer count was 3 (bought) and 1 (drunk).

The first match in the second half was a contest between one of my favorites, MsChif, and her old rival, Billy McNeil. This next comment may upset some of my good friends in the business, but I don’t think too highly of women taking on men in a matchup unless it’s meant to be a joke such as a woman wrestler feuding with a manager. With that said, I am not qualified to comment on the match except to say that MsChif is one of my favorite wrestlers in the Independents and among the top ten wrestlers who I would pay to see on the local scene. Though I don’t really approve of the concept, I respectfully watched the match and applauded the wrestlers for their hard work.

Up next was the highly anticipated match between LWA favorites Adam Raw and Nick Tyson. Both had stated that this would be their final match. What a shame, though, as I have not been able to see LWA from their beginnings. I have seen Tyson many times, including the classic match in which he made TNA Superstar Alex Shelley tapout. If you missed it, LWA has it on the Cuts, Scars and Superstars DVD.

Adam Raw had some classic battles with Michael Strider that are still being talked about to this day. Unfortunately for the fans, these two wrestlers have stated they have lost their love for wrestling and this was to be their last match. With no disrespect to either man, this match never seemed to get momentum and before I knew it, the match was over and the crowd seemed stunned as Raw was able to get the pinfall victory with a brainbuster. Tyson left quickly and Raw stayed in the ring to thank the LWA fans for all their support throughout the years. One has to wonder if this will leave a bad taste in each ones mouth and we can only hope for a return.

The second match of the triple main event was for the LWA title, as Donovan Ruddick defended the belt against the man he took the belt from, Shorty Biggs. Shorty fought with all his heart and every time Ruddick would knock him down, the Don Mega would get back up to hit Ruddick with all he got but Donovan proved to be too powerful as he hit Shorty Biggs with a spinebuster to retain the LWA Heavyweight Title.

We were warned but, to be truly honest, no one had prepared for the aftermath, destruction, and betrayal that was to come when the The Submission Squad (Dingo, Pierre Abernathy, Davey Vega and Johnny Vinyl) took on Evan Gelistico, Gary the Barnowl, Steven Kennedy and KC Karrington in a Survivor Series Hardcore Streetfight. This war had started ugly when Vega and Vinyl had taken out Ego Manager and Karrington’s girlfriend Tiffany LaFane with one punch heard throughout the LWA in Granite City. Since then, Karrington had been out for revenge with Vega only to have Vega get the upper hand and attempt to set KC on fire in one of their encounters.

The eight men entered the ring and to the crowd it was like slow motion. Then all hell broke loose as wrestlers were everywhere. The Ego Express flew from the ring in unison onto Dingo and Pierre, who were on the floor. The next thing I knew, Evan Gelistico threw Pierre head first onto a table and before I knew it I was sandwiched at the bar trying to take pictures with Evan and Pierre battling on one side and Dingo trying to give Steven Kennedy a face lift with his hand on the other. The action was everywhere. I looked across the room and Gary and Johnny Vinyl were laying into each other. Then Evan and Pierre decided that Knights of Columbus Hall was not big enough for either men. They battled down the steps and into the parking lot with body slams and pinfalls on the pavement as well on top of the cars. These two were not giving an inch.

Curiosity was killing this cat, so I headed back to towards the ring to see what I was missing. It was total pandemonium in the building, with chairs everywhere.

The fans were loving it while trying not to become part of it, and at one time I found myself standing next to fellow MWR columnist Kari Williams. I asked her when she was going to train so that she could be part of the first all-girl street fight, but I was unable to get a reply as Karrington and Vinyl tore each other apart and were coming our way.

You will have to ask somebody else about who pinned whom to get out of the matches, as this was no place to be keeping a score card. I heard that it came down to a bloody K.C. Karrington and Davey Vega with ladders and chairs in the ring, with Karrington getting the upper hand by bringing out his secret weapon, lighter fluid. Just as he was to get his revenge, his girlfriend Tiffany appeared from the back to plead for Karrington to just let it be. Karrington was blind, with nothing but payback in mind for Vega. As he attempted to put lighter fluid on the ladder, Tiffany did the unspeakable by doublecrossing her lover with a punch below the belt. She assisted Vega to his feet and the two of them lit a glove with lighter fluid and with one throw ended the match and broke one man’s heart.

As the LWA team rushed to Karrington’s side, Tiffany LaFane pranced around the ring with a smile on her face, proud of her beautiful chaos. Circus Maximus had been everything and more for this writer, but I yearn for the day that Tiffany is put in her place. I plan on being there to see her get what is coming to her.

The LWA delivered a night to remember and many questions remain. Can anyone defeat Donovan Ruddick for the LWA title? Just how will Karrington recover from the betrayal of Tiffany? Who will be the LWA President? What surprises do LWA management have in store for us as we head toward the second half of the year? Time will tell, and I can’t wait.

Steve Miller for LWA President

Miller seeks second term as LWA president

Steve Miller claims that he has done it all in professional wrestling. He has torn down rings, filmed and even competed. However, his most honorable position was as LWA President—a position he currently seeks to reclaim.

During his first reign, Miller played an influential role in bringing in international stars and sees only the same in his future.

“Bringing in Sabin [and] Shelley, I believe was one of the greatest moments for the LWA, and I was glad to be a part of that. When it comes down to it, I help[ed] lay the ground work and decided who would face who. The board definitely helped, but my first reign saw change, and my second will be no different,” he said.

When comparing himself against his competition, Miller asserts his astuteness over the other contenders.

“All the intelligent wrestling fans in the area know that I’m the proper man to vote for. Roberts brings a lot of experience to the table, but his ideals are too dated for a company like LWA. The little kid, whatever his name is, would look at the LWA like some plaything and would not be able to grasp the concepts needed to run a wrestling company. As far as Dangle, that bestiality freak, he left the LWA before. I’ve withstood many beatings and kept coming back, when times got tough he ran for the hills to be with a squirrel or something,” he said.

One word that would personify Miller’s “campaign” would be “improvement.” He feels that since his ousting as president, the company has been on a downward spiral. Specifically, he plans to focus on removing the “idiotic shenanigans” from the presence of the LWA superfans.

“You have a man that thinks he is a bird; I would get him the psychiatric help that he needs. There is one man that decides it would be a good idea to drink during [and] before a match, and that is not the kind of example we want to set to the fans. The other thing I would do away with are those lame videos that someone thought would be a good idea to show during the shows. Those are nothing but sophomoric humor and really serve no point what-so-ever,” he said.

On a more athletic level, Miller has notions to remove the wrestlers who he classifies as “the malarkey that is present in the current company.” Names such as Jordan Lacey, Evan Gelistico and Shorty Biggs have been mentioned. Miller’s goal is to turn the fans on to a more pure form of the sport.

“The shows would become re-centered on the smash mouth action and people will start abiding to the rules. The action would return to the hard hitting action that the fans have come to enjoy. On the other hand, if they feel that the rules are not worthwhile, then they are in for a treatment,” he said.

Also on his “presidential agenda” is a more rigorous travel schedule that would send the LWA to locations which it has never been before.

Overall, the former “Chief of Staff” relies on the simple fact that he has the brain-power to hold, and successfully handle, such an important position within the company.

“I am able to look past the simple emotions and make the decision that is best for the company. Will every fan like my decision, no, but it is good for the LWA. When I ran things, attendance was up, international talent was brought in and the shows were some of the greatest that have been seen in the recent years,” he said.

Voting for the election occurs through an LWA message board and continues up until the July 12 Circus Maximus event.

No more disclaimers. No more excuses. It’s just me, “Smart” Mark Anthony with another edition of “Mark This Down”. Today, I’ll try to be a little less controversial. I won’t talk about anything that will get anybody severely riled up. I won’t entertain thoughts of talking backstage politics or the he said, she said stuff that can sometimes become a staple of the professional wrestling landscape. We all know that my people are going to call wrestlers underrated, overrated, or average. Wrestlers and promotions are going to call fans “marks” in a negative way and still beg them to buy merchandise and tickets to events. It’s all just a vicious cycle, but I digress.

This time around I’m taking another step to the foreground of Missouri Wrestling Revival. I’ll be going over the twenty guys that at this stage in the game I feel should be listed in Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s PWI 500. That elite list of professional wrestlers from around the world has lost a little of it’s prestige in this day and age due to my people, the Internet Wrestling Community, but while some of my people will say that it’s obsolete, I hearby decree it to be THE list of professional wrestlers.

The PWI 500 dates back to the days when I was a wide eyed boy looking at professional wrestling as a legitimate sport. It was a great way for me to see how wrestlers I was more familiar with rated with others from around the world. Since the late 90s, the list has decreased in popularity due to the decline of pro wrestling magazines (in favor of… GASP! the Internet), but it still has a prominent place in a true wrestling fan’s heart.

I understand that I am getting a little on the ranty side, so let’s just look at my list.

20. Curtis Payne (Full Throttle Wrestling) – The new FTW champion won the belt in very dramatic fashion, proving that he belongs on this list.

19. Brett Young (Central States Wrestling) – Young is one of the best talents out there and while he doesn’t have the most impressive win-loss record, he has really turned it on in 2008 with valuable victories on the way to winning the NWA Kansas Title.

18. Shorty Biggs (Lethal Wrestling Alliance) – A crowd favorite, Shorty held the LWA Heavyweight Championship for months before losing it to “The Future” Donovan Ruddick in April.

17. Edmund “Livewire” McGuire (All American Pro Wrestling) – He’s currently at a point in his career where a lot of title shots for multiple titles could all come at once. A great guy with a very good win-loss record over the past year.

16. Gage Octane (3XWrestling) – The 3XW Champ is one of the best working in Iowa, hands down.

15. Mississippi Madman (Scott County Wrestling) – Come on, it’s the friggin Mississippi Madman!

14. Mark Sterling (3XWrestling) – 3XW’s Pure Wrestling Champion is also one half of the Pro Wrestling Phoenix Tag Team Champions. I don’t think there are too many in the Midwest that are better workers than this man.

13. Adam Raw (Lethal Wrestling Alliance) – Has it all, except for the LWA Heavyweight Title. Could a showdown with Donovan Ruddick catapult him to the top of this list next year? I say yes… and I know all.

12. Shane Hollister (Scott County Wrestling) – Few are having a better 2008 than Shane Hollister. He just recently beat Tyler Black for the SCW Heavyweight Championship.

11. “Serial Thriller” Shane Rich (All American Pro Wrestling) – AAPW’s Heavyweight Champ is always solid in the ring. He hasn’t had a bad match in 2008.

10. “The Future” Donovan Ruddick (Lethal Wrestling Alliance) – This is the guy everybody is talking about. He’s big, he has a huge upside, and he just grabbed the LWA Heavyweight Title away from Shorty Biggs.

9. Eric Ruffington (New Midwest Wrestling) – I’ve seen plenty about this guy through this site. The guy is entertaining and frequently has gold around his waist. He deserved to be in the PWI 500.

8. Jeremy Wyatt (Central States Wrestling) – One of the best in the Midwest, and he’s just as active in other places like LWA and PWP. The guy is tough and talented. That’s an excellent combination.

7. Keith Walker (AAW: Pro Wrestling Redefined) – The big guy had a lot of momentum but recently lost a lot of it when he left WLW. We’ll see what kind of impact he has in AAW and SCW.

6. Dangerous Derek (World League Wrestling) – The new World League Wrestling Heavyweight Champion had his stock rise significantly by defeating Chris Masters.

5. Dingo (Central States Wrestling: Missouri) – Can I get Dingo on TV? Like, seriously. This guy is that good, and NWA Missouri Champion to boot.

4. Jerry Lynn (AAW: Pro Wrestling Redefined) – He’ll be in the PWI 500 no matter what I say, but he still belongs on this list as the AAW Heavyweight Champ.

3. Michael Strider (Central States Wrestling) – I wish there was more Michael Strider to go around. I don’t think I’ve personally seen him wrestle for months now.

2. Tyler Black (Scott County Wrestling) – Ring of Honor has really helped raise the profile of this former SCW Heavyweight Champ.

1. Chris Masters (World League Wrestling) – Just recently losing the WLW Heavyweight Title doesn’t diminish his WWE experience for the majority of the year. I imagine he’ll rank highly, and should. He’s had some great matches in WLW.

As far as wrestlers and the St Louis scene are concerned, we will start with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton. Have you had any past interactions with “The Legend Killer“?

I have had some indirect contact with Randy through his father. However, as far as direct contact, I have not had the privilege of working with him. He came to South Broadway about a year after I left to wrestle on the St. Louis wrestling scene.

How do you feel of his work as a wrestler?

As a wrestler, Randy Orton is coming into his own as one of the best “bad guys” in the sport. He has developed an attitude that incites professional wrestling fans to hate him. Given the right opportunities, I feel that Randy will be at the top tier of the WWE for years to come.

Let’s stay with the Orton family and talk about his father “Cowboy” Bob Orton, who I met at an OSWA show a while back.

I have had several run-ins with “Cowboy” Bob Orton. Every time I work with him, I always have a great time. Even though he may not be in his prime, he still can provoke a crowd to hate him. From working with him, it is easy to see that many of the skills that Randy Orton has are genetic.

St Louis has been represented well here recently with Delirious, MsChif, and Daizee Haze wrestling in LWA for the Michael Johnson Benefit show on May 3rd. Matt Sydal and Dingo have also made a splash. Which one has surprised you the most with their success?

If I had to choose one, I would have to say MsChif. The successes of the men notwithstanding, to excel as a women’s wrestler is a much more difficult task. Right now, she holds two of the most recognized championships in the world. That, combined with her athletic skills and her attitude, is the reason why I would choose MsChif as the St. Louis wrestler who has surprised me the most.

Who would you say in the past 18 years was the most underrated wrestler in the St Louis area?

In my career, the most underrated wrestler was John Blackheart. This man was technically sound and knew what it took to get a reaction out of the fans. He could go out and fly with the light heavyweights, brawl with the brawlers, manipulate the rules in the world of tag team wrestling, and do things behind a referee’s back that were pure gold. John Blackheart could go out to the ring with anyone and have a good match. He was just that good.

Who do you feel is the best tag team ever in professional wrestling?

The best tag team in professional wrestling, in my opinion, would be Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. They thought and wrestled in almost perfect harmony with little to no communication necessary.

Who do you feel is the best tag team in St. Louis in the past 20 years?

That’s easy! Billy Bob and the Techno Kid! Just joking! Seriously, the answer to this question will stun a lot of people. From all of the tag teams that have wrestled in St. Louis on a regular basis, I would say that the Ego Express is the best tag team that I have seen in the past 20 years. They know what the other one is thinking at all times. They genuinely seem to like and trust each other. Their knowledge of the rules and how to break them is outstanding. Also, they have a manager/valet that fits their plans perfectly. The Ego Express, whether you like them or not, has all the tools to hang with any tag team in professional wrestling.

Is there anyone that comes to mind that never got the chance, but really deserved it?

I feel that “The Punisher” from the MVWA never really got his time in the spotlight. In his heyday, he could drive a crowd to almost riot status before he even entered the ring. If he would have had a company like an MMWA, GCW, or LWA to sign him and he could have stayed healthy, he could have been huge.

At the moment, you have the chance to become LWA President. You are running against Jacob Dangle, Steven Miller, Bavarian Boy. For those who have not been a part of LWA, tell us what that is about.

Since Yuletide Terror 2007, the LWA has been without a president. Management has decided that someone needs to take control of the LWA before chaos destroys the company. Seeing that I have refereed and ring announced for the LWA, a friend of mine tried to convince me to run for the LWA presidency and I brushed it off. Yet, as time went on, I heard that Steven Miller had found a loophole and weaseled his way into the election process. Once I heard that he was running, I knew that I had to give serious thought about running for LWA president.

Steven Miller thinks that, if Bavarian Boy or Jacob Dangle is elected president of the LWA, he can use his influence with Donovan Ruddick to intimidate them into doing what he wants. However, Mr. Miller knows that I am not, nor will never be, scared of anyone. I know that since I am running for LWA President against Steven Miller, if I lose, I will probably be out of a job.

The fans of the LWA need to make their opinions known. I recommend that everyone goes to www. lwawrestling. com and vote for who you think should be the new LWA president.
