RIP Wrestling Promoter and Former Wrestler Tony Casta

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 4, 2020

Tony Casta with his wife Wanda

It is with great sadness that we are to report today that our longtime friend Tony Casta has passed away. Fans of today know Tony as the man that you first saw along with his wife Wanda as you entered the historic South Broadway Athletic Club each and every month in St. Louis.

Tony Casta was always welcoming to all his fans and took time to tell stories of matches and shows that he had promoted in days gone past. His promotion MMWA to this day can lay claim to being one of the most successful long term promotions in the country packing sell out crowds year after year. Casta would team up with fellow promoter Herb Simmons to do joint shows under the MMWA-SICW umbrella. The two often teamed up to support various fundraisers to give back to the community. His life would not only touch the fans but many wrestlers you and old that he worked with. Chances are if you have seen a wrestler in the Midwest during the past 40 years they have worked with Tony Casta at one point or another.

In 2014 Missouri Wrestling Revival knew that he was an obvious choice for the MWR Lifetime Achievement Award. A great write up was done for the announcement of Tony Casta as the recipient of the award was done by Jimmy Harris and I welcome you to take the time to read it here.

Other Awards

2018 Hall Of Fame Class The Independent St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame.

2018 Hall of Fame Class The Midwest Independent Wrestling Hall Of Fame.

We would like to send our deepest condolences to his lovely wife Wanda, as well as his extended family and friends during this trying time. We will miss his smile and handshake as we enter the doors at the SBAC.

On a personal level, thank you Tony for your friendship and support of MWR. Today is the first day we are without you, but we will always remember you Tony.

Congratulations to Hollis Giroux for Defeating Ace Hawkins for the MWR Missouri Championship

Hollis Giroux defeats Ace Hawkins for the MWR Missouri Championship

This past weekend at KCXW Mayhem, the MWR Missouri Champion Ace Hawkins defended his title against the young up-and-comer Hollis Giroux at the Ararat Event Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Hawkins, a former Pro Wrestling Illustrated Rookie of the Year and a man that has used his speed and wrestling skills to win titles around the Midwest, was matched move-for-move in a stunning battle that saw Giroux’s hand raised with the title of the new MWR Missouri Champion.

I would like to thank Ace Hawkins for his State title reign, as he took on challengers at the top promotions around the Midwest. A rematch with Giroux promises to be worth the price of admission alone and we hope to see these two go to war again.

Giroux is a star at KCXW and Cape Championship Wrestling. This title reign should allow fans around Missouri to see what I see now: a man that is capable of delivering entertaining matches night in and night out. The best is yet to come and I look forward to covering his title reign against the top talents in the State of Missouri.

Who would you like to see Hollis defend his title against at your promotion?

How about Dynamo Pro Wrestling: vs. Adrian Surge?

World League Wrestling: vs. Rex?

MMWA Wrestling: vs the first MWR champ Ricky Cruz?

Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling: vs the Marksman?

New Breed Wrestling: vs The Iceman?

Ringside Championship Wrestling: vs Kyle Roberts?

Cape Championship Wrestling: vs Austin Lane?

Keep up with MWR for all the details of when, where, and whom Hollis Giroux wrestles as the details come in.

New MMWA Champion Barackus . . . The King of Chaos Ricky Cruz

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 11, 2019

Photo Courtesy of the Ricky Cruz Facebook page

“The King Of Chaos” Ricky Cruz d. “Volatile” Curtis Wylde(w/ Wyldefyre) by DQ to earn a Money In The Bank-style contract for a future Heavyweight Title match. Cruz accidentally knocked the referee down and Wylde brought in a chair, but Cruz kicked the chair in his face; after that, Cruz threw the chair to Wylde and fell to the mat. The referee recovered and called for the bell to disqualify Wylde (8:03). It was scheduled to be a triple threat match with “Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One” Gary Jackson included, but Commissioner Jim Harris said that Jackson had been involved in some kind of altercation earlier in the day and was taken to the hospital. (Wylde all but took credit for the attack in response to the news.)

Barackus d. “Da Bomb” Brian James after a frog splash off the second rope to win the Heavyweight Title (5:40). Chaos ensued as Curtis Wylde came out protesting that he should have had the title shot…then Ricky Cruz hit Barackus with the microphone and decided that he was cashing in his contract.

-“The King Of Chaos” Ricky Cruz d. Barackus with the superkick to win the Heavyweight Title (0:11).
