PWP’s Year of the Phoenix IV recap 2-28-2009

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 12, 2009

pwp1

PWP- YEAR OF THE PHOENIX IV is in the books, and it will go down as one of the biggest and most special nights in company history! We had a great turnout, despite the bitter cold, as we said goodbye to a local legend – the one and only Hype Gotti. We kicked the evening off with a super hot tag team contest:

1.) Zac James and Preston Maxwell came out with a huge key, which they claimed was the key to the Council Bluffs Armory. They claimed THEY were the reason we couldn’t get into the building last month, as they stole the key to turn the armory into “Zac & Preston’s Den of Debauchery”. This brought out the PWP Tag Team Champions, “The Knights of Fire” – Jaysin Strife & Vic Victory. The champs offered to put their belts on the line, if Zac & Preston put the key on the line! After an exciting bout, Strife & Victory were victorious, retaining their titles, and becoming the new keepers of the key to the Council Bluffs Armory!

2.) Nate Bash made his return to PWP, taking on Stephen Saint. Saint controlled most of the match, grounding the high-flying Bash – however in the end, Bash scored the upset victory.

Up next, in a total surprise – SONJAY DUTT made his return to PWP! Sonjay went on to say that its no secret that he and Hype Gotti are very close friends, and that if Hype was having his last match – he wasn’t going to miss it! Sonjay then asked to be added to the match itself, making it a 3-Way Dance for later in the evening!

3.) Up next, Joey Daniels was set to square off with Donnie Peppercricket. Before the match, Donnie asked Joey why he slapped him in the face at the last show – Joey explained that he was simply caught up in the moment, and that he was sorry, the two then shook hands, and agreed to have a clean wrestling match, in the name of sportsmanship. A back and forth, even paced match followed, however, in the end, Joey hit his supposed best friend with a low blow, and pinned him with his feet on the ropes…..so much for sportsmanship.

4.) #1 Brett Young took on the highly entertaining Yellow Dog. Dog held his own with the Las Vegas veteran, but in the end, the Dog was tricked into a game of fetch, allowing Young to ambush him with “The One Shot” to pick up the victory.

5.) “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon battled one half of the Northstar Express, Ryan Cruz. Last March, these two gave us one of the greatest matches in PWP history, thus, the rematch was highly anticipated – and these two men did not disappoint! In the end, Cannon connected with “The Glimmering Warlock” to score the win. Cannon then helped Cruz up and the two shook hands in a true display of respect.

6.) Mark Sterling battled the debuting Mike Sydal. Sydal was very impressive, showing that his brother (WWE’s Evan Bourne) isn’t the only impressive athlete in the family – however in the end, the more experienced Sterling was victorious. Despite the loss, Sydal looks to have a very bright future in PWP.

7.) Up next, Chris Havius took on “Babyface” Tony Cortez. Cortez controlled a lot of the match, proving why he is still one of the best in PWP – but in the end, Havius defeated the former champion with a clean 1-2-3. Havius then stated that while he has been in PWP since day one, fighting through back surgery, taking on all opponents, in any type of match-up – he has never received even one shot at the PWP Heavyweight Title. He then made the following challenge for March 21st – in the following main event, if Sonjay wins the title, or if Jeremy Wyatt retains – he would challenge them to a one on one match for the title. If Hype Gotti should win the title, he would then retire as champion, and a tournament would be held in March to crown a new champion – in that case, Havius demanded to be the number one seed in the tournament, vowing that one way or another, on March 21st – he would become PWP Heavyweight Champion.

8.) It was now time for the main event, and Hype Gotti’s very last match ever!

The match would be an elimination style 3-Way Dance for “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt’s PWP Heavyweight Championship.

Wyatt, Sonjay, and Hype all hit high impact moves in the opening minutes, bringing the crowd to a frenzy.

At about the 20 minute mark, Hype hit the Gotti Driver on Sonjay to eliminate him from the match. Hype and Wyatt then brawled all over the armory, in and out of the ring, all the while pushing the crowd’s excitement to it’s limit.

In the end, at around the 40 minute mark, Wyatt hit in succession, his Lightning Spiral, the Angel’s Wings, and then applied a dragon sleeper – while Hype held on for as long as he could, he finally passed out in the hold, the match was stopped, and Wyatt retained. What then followed was without a doubt the most emotional atmosphere in PWP history. The locker room emptied, as Hype’s peers gave him an in-ring standing ovation, joined by the crowd at ringside – all of whom showed their appreciation for all that Hype has given to the business over the past 7 years. Hype Gotti’s career may be over, but his legacy to the mid-west wrestling scene, and especially to PWP will live forever. Thank you Hype!

We now turn our attention to Saturday Night, March 21st.

We know that Chris Havius will finally get his shot at the PWP Title, as he challenges “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt.

There was a very profound aura of excitement at Year of the Phoenix IV – which is sure to carry over to the 21st. No doubt, this is an exciting time in PWP, and believe us, you don’t want to miss a second of it! More details coming very soon!

Pro Wrestling Phoenix looks back at 2008.

2008 was a very remarkable year for Pro Wrestling Phoenix. We came back from a four month hiatus in February. We had lost the rights to run shows at our old building, and had some trouble coming up with a new one. Once we decided on the Armory, we were skeptical about how many people could even find the place let alone who would show up. At “Year of the Phoenix 3” on February 16, we couldn’t have been happier with our second biggest crowd ever about 130 people. That night saw a lot of great action, and is notable for being the night “The LONRs” Showtime Darrien Sanders and Mark Sterling won the PWP Tag Team Championship by defeating “Pride and the Passion”, Zac James and Tyler Pride This caused massive problems between Zac and Tyler. At this point “Babyface” Tony Cortez was still PWP Heavyweight Champion, and was able to retain the title in a 3 Way Dance over “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt and Abu Colossus. Hype Gotti began an intense losing streak as well.

“Try and Stop Us Now” on March 15 had one of PWP’s best matches ever, a bout between “The Anarchist: Arik Cannon and Ryan Cruz, one half of the Northstar Express. I highly suggest checking this one out; you can find it on YouTube. “A New Era” in April saw the Northstar Express and Arik Cannon both getting title shots in PWP. However, “The LONRs” and Tony Cortez both pulled through, retaining their respective titles.

March 15 Wyatt vs Strife- Could be the most high flying and technical match I remember, there was so much nonstop action from both Wyatt and Strife- Gary Giaffoglione/GG HotShots.com PWP Photographer

This led to our “3rd Year Anniversary Spectacular” on May 10. “The LONRs” once again retained the PWP Tag Team Championship by defeating Ben Sailor and Nate Bash. Hype Gotti continued his losing streak, this time losing to Domino Rivera. This show also saw one of the greats Jerry Lynn show up to wrestle Arik Cannon in an absolute classic PWP match. Zac James finally agreed to fight Tyler Pride, but was only the beginning. A very big surprise also happened when PWP Alumni Payday Patterson showed up to answer Brett Young’s one shot challenge in a very memorable match. Chris Havius made his return to thank the fans, and was attacked by Stephen Saint. The big news here however, was Abu Colossus was able to win the PWP Championship in a 4 Way between Tony Cortez, Jeremy Wyatt and Jaysin Strife, thus ending his 20 month reign as champion.

We started the summer off with two shows in July. The first show saw Chris Havius try to get some revenge on Stephan Saint, however the match ended in a double disqualification. Jaysin Strife finally beat Hype Gotti one on one. Afterwards, Tony Cortez confronted Jaysin about some things that had been happening, especially in last months main event where he helped pin Tony. He attacked him, and it looked like Hype was making the save, but he shocked everyone when he too attacked Strife. It took Vic Victory coming out with a chair to run those two off, and it looked like Simply the Best was back together. Victory and Strife put their differences behind them. Abu solidified his status as champion when he was able to pin Tony Cortez in a one on one match.

Our second July show was our huge Battle of the Phoenix show. This saw 25 contestants get a shot at becoming #1 contender. And who was more fitting to win than #1 Brett Young. He earned a shot at Colossus in August. This was a big night for Brett Young as he also defeated Arik Cannon in a singles match. Also on this show, “The LONRs” were once again successful over Northstar Express, Zac and Tyler tangled again, and Strife and Victory got their first taste of Simply the Best.

August was very intense, Tyler Pride finally defeated Zac James in a must see street fight to open the show. Stephen Saint defeated Chris Havius by cheating in a First Blood match. Afterwards, Chris challenged Stephen to a FANS BRING THE WEAPONS match at the next show. Brett Young fell short of his chance at gold when Abu Colossus once again dominated him. This led us to September, Malicious Mayhem and one of the most insane nights in PWP history. Chris Havius and Stephen Saint put it all on the line in a match that included tables, ladders, chairs, light tubes, thumbtacks, bibles and more. Chris Havius came out on top and both earned the fans respect that night.

This was the easiest to chose, of all the shots taken in 2008 this Weapons Match between Chris Havis and Stephen Saint will forever be in my conversation of “what are some of your best shots”. September 21, 2008 Malicious Mayhem… would be the #1 Choice of my Best PWP Shots of 2008.- Gary Giaffoglione/GG HotShots.com PWP Photographer

October 25 was a special night for PWP. The Northstar Express had their last chance at the PWP title, if they lost, they would never get another shot at the LONRs. They did pull through to become PWP Tag Team Champions. Also, the showed was named Night of the Rebel, because Jeremy Wyatt, who hadn’t lost a singles match in probably a thousand years in PWP, defeated Abu Colossus to become the current reigning PWP champion. Since then he has defeated both Abu Colossus and Brett Young to retain. The Northstar Express’ reign was short lived, as they were defeated in a three way dance by Simply the Best, also including Jaysin Strife and Vic Victory. Afterwards The duo challenged Simply the Best to a Texas Tornado Tag Title match in December, with the added stip that whoever was pinned in the match would leave PWP forever.

December came and new Tag Champs AGAIN, as Strife and Victory pinned Hype Gotti not only to win the titles, but to send him packing from PWP. Hype Gotti asked for one more match, and that is January 17th VS. Jeremy Wyatt for the Title. Regardless of winning or losing, he is gone from PWP. But he said he is going to retire as champion and go out with a bang.

What do we have to look forward to in PWP in 2009? You can bet that everyone has their sights set on “the Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt and his coveted Title. Look forward to your favorite regulars as well as new talent looking for chances at gold. Strife and Victory are the Tag Champs, but for how long? The LONRs won’t sit idly by and watch them take all the glory. Don’t forget about the Northstar Express either. It is a very exciting time for Pro Wrestling Phoenix, please check us out at www. prowrestlingphoenix. com for all the updates and add us as friends at www.myspace.com.prowrestlingphoenix.

jeremy-wyatt-part-2

Jeremy Wyatt (PWP, LWA, 3XW, HVW, NWA-DPW)

The rebel wrestled in FIVE organizations in four states in the month of November. At 3XW in Iowa, he defeated the vastly improving Mike Sydal. In Illinois with HVW he wrestled Kahagas in such a tough match that Kahagas had to use a fake injury to get the upper hand to steal the win. At LWA in Missouri, he retained the LWA Championship in a three way between Dingo and KC Karrington when he pinned Karrington.

He traveled to PWP  in Iowa he was able to retain the PWP Championship when he defeated former Champion Abu Colossus and #1 Brett Young in a three way dance. Last, but not least he returned to Kansas with the NWA, he was scheduled to take on Dingo but when Dingo was unable to go, none other than ROH Star Davey Richards would be the man Wyatt had to beat. In a match up that Wyatt sure felt the next day; the outcome was once again a win for the Rebel Jeremy Wyatt.

NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling

In a time where 100 people attending is good, 221 is phenomenal. What is more impressive is the last time wrestling was there the attendance was low. More important than the number was the crowd response. From the time the bell rang to the last pinfall the place was off the hook.

1st Runner Up –New Midwest Wrestling
2nd Runner Up – 3XW
3rd Runner Up – IWA Productions

Others receiving votes – AAPW,HVW, Chaos Pro Wrestling

November Personality of the month

high-voltage-show-2-plsu-nwa-in-pomona-011

Magic Man (HVW)

Seemingly 100% behind his man from the PWI 500, The Magic Man turned on Kahagas during the main event of the last High Voltage show, aligning himself with “Future” Donovan Ruddick. He showed that he gravitates toward greatness, and he felt that Kahagas could not handle it anymore (see video on Missouri Wrestling Revival). Overall, Magic Man’s wit and knowledge warrant his nomination for Personality of the month.

1st Runner Up- Luke Roberts (LWA)

November Match of the month

NWA Kansas Champion #1 Brett Young

Vs.

Tyler Cook

(NWA Presents Dynamo Pro Wrestling)

October 29th Pomona, Kansas

On a night where every match was top notch, the pressure was on in front of 221 people. The Kansas Champion was at his very best, working the crowd to frenzy and using every advantage to retain the title. Tyler Cook, worked and worked to get the momentum going his way but when Cook hit the uncovered turnbuckle (Thanks to Brett Young earlier) he would go home without the belt. In the main event, you can make or break what the fans thought of the night. Cook showed that he can live up to the hype that many feel he is capable. The fans though, cant wait to see Brett Young get what’s coming to him next time. What more can you ask from the bad guy?

MWR October 2008 Awards

Posted by flairwhoooooo on November 18, 2008

October Wrestler of the Month

 wyatt

Jeremy Wyatt [ PWP] [LWA] [3XW]

No wrestler in the Midwest is as hot as Jeremy “The Rebel” Wyatt. On October 17th at 3XW he earned the right to be the number one contender to the 3xw Pure Championship title held by Tyler Cook by defeating former Pure Champion Maddog McDowell and international star Arik Cannon.

A week later he returned to LWA where he cashed in his Medallion to LWA President Luke Roberts before Roberts could declare the LWA title strip the injured Jordan Lacey of the belt. Since Lacey could not defend the belt, Roberts had no other choice but to give the Rebel the title. Wyatt never one to walk away from a fight successfully defended the belt that night in another three way, this time with KC Karrington and once again Arik Cannon.

Less than 24 hours, Wyatt made his way to Pro Wrestling Phoenix to take on the mammoth Abu Colossus for the PWP Championship. Wyatt was able to defeat one of the most impressive big men in the Midwest to become the new PWP Champion. It is only fitting that Jeremy Wyatt wins once again in October.

1st Runner Up – Casanova [3XW]
2nd Runner Up –
“Bloody” Harker Dirge [NBWA]
3rd Runner Up –
Shane Rich [AAPW]

Others receiving votes: AJ Williams [MMWA-SICW]

October Tag Team of the Month

northstar-express1

The Northstar Express (Ryan Cruz and Darin Corbin) [PWP] [AAW] [LWA]

The Northstar Express traveled to LWA for a classic match up between Johnny Vinyl & Davey Vega. The upstart tag team of Vinyl and Vega was able to get the upset win. The Northstar Express did not let that get them down as they headed to PWP and took on one of the arch rivals the LONRS for the Tag team titles. The LONRS had beaten the Northstar Express twice before this encounter so with their final chance to become the PWP Tag Team Champions, in a match up between two of the top tag teams in the Midwest, the Northstar Express was able to get the belts that have eluded them all year.

1st Runner Up – The LONRS (Mark Sterling and Darrien Sanders [AAPW] [PWP]
2nd Runner Up –
Johnny Vinyl & Davey Vega [LWA]
3rd Runner Up
Dinn T. Moore & Brian Breaker [WLW]

October Women of the Month

Amy Henning [WLW]

Not content in just being the daughter of Curt “Mr Perfect” Henning, Amy has worked hard at WLW. The first match ups between her and Stacey O’Brien was the classic wily veteran taking advantage of young rookie. On October 24th in Warsaw Missouri, Amy proved that she is a quick learner and defeated O’Brien to become the new WLW Ladies Champion. MWR staff took notice and voted her the October Women of the Month

1st Runner Up –Stacey O’ Brien  [WLW]
2nd Runner Up – Malia Hosaka [3XW]
3rd Runner Up –Melanie Cruise [POWW]

October Promotion of the Month

high-voltage

High Voltage Wrestling

Many doubted the new promotion in St Louis capable of having a show much less being successful. HVW on October 4th welcomed fans and wrestlers alike to come and see what they were all about.  The night showcased powerhouses Donovan Ruddick, High flyers DaCobra, a top tag team in the Hybirds and a ACU-30 Title defense.  HVW delivered a rollercoaster of action and suspense that impressed the wrestling world.

High Voltage Wrestling understands that they can not fly under the radar. They have reloaded for their next show. They will crown the first HVW Champion when “The Future” Donovan Ruddick takes on Brandon Espinosa. Mark Sterling will battle DaCobra and Kahagas has been brought in to take on MWR Wrestler of the Month Jeremy Wyatt. This and much more is why HVW has earned the respect of MWR.

1st Runner Up –LWA
2nd Runner Up – 3XW
3rd Runner Up –PWP

Others receiving votes – IWA Productions,

Vinyl and Vega: Moving Up in the World

Vinyl and Vega: Moving Up in the World

Lethal Wrestling Alliances undisputed best tag team, Spitfire Davey Vega (back) and Blackheart Johnny Vinyl (front).

Lethal Wrestling Alliance's undisputed best tag team, "Spitfire" Davey Vega (back) and "Blackheart" Johnny Vinyl (front).

At the end of October, Missouri Wrestling Revival reported on the emerging tag team scene in the Midwest. There are great tag teams out there that need no introduction in most regions of the MWR coverage area: Northstar Express, Phoenix Twins, Zero Gravity, Windy City Classic and LONRs are a few of the teams that fit in this category. Other strong teams include the Hybrids, Marc Godeker & Steve Anthony, Abuse of Power, Feature Presentation, Midwest Ground & Air, Gentlemen’s Club and Team W.A.R. These teams are a representation of the depth of tag team wrestling in the Midwest.

The real testament to the depth of Midwest tag team wrestling, however, comes in the form of a tag team powerhouse in a promotion with no tag team championship: “Blackheart” Johnny Vinyl & “Spitfire” Davey Vega. As the undisputed top team of the tag title deficient Lethal Wrestling Alliance, Vinyl and Vega have struggled to get the recognition each deserved. That all changed at the end of this past month when not only did they square off against arguably the best team in the MWR coverage area and the entire Midwest, The Northstar Express (Darin Corbin & Ryan Cruz), but they managed to defeat them! The victory moved Vinyl & Vega into 9th place in the 2008 MWR Tag Team Wrestling Revival Cup standings.

Earlier in the week, I had the opportunity to sit down with both Vinyl & Vega and talk about the match. We also discussed the LWA and their future. Here is the interview in its entirety:

The Lethal Wrestling Alliance (LWA), Missouri Wrestling Revival (MWR), and even many of the wrestling fans hyped the match between you two and The Northstar Express before the October 24, 2008 face off. Leading up to the match, did you feel it was being overly hyped?

Vinyl: No, I didn’t think so. It was going to be our first opportunity to prove ourselves on a national stage.

Vega: Yeah. On one hand you have the well-traveled tag team (Northstar Express). On the other, an up and coming team that a a few people know about but just needed that one high profile match to step it up.

Vinyl: It was our coming out party as one of the top teams going today, so I felt the hype was justified.

How did you prepare for the match?

Vega: I was in the gym five days a week for the two months leading up to the match. I also trained at Dynamo Pro Gym on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. It was the most I have ever prepared myself for one match. The week before the LWA show I slowed it down a bit so that I didn’t overwork myself.

Vinyl: I did everything I normally do, but doubled it. I don’t lift weights often, preferring a more cardiovascular workout. I turned my cardiovascular conditioning up a notch because I knew Corbin and Cruz were going to be well-conditioned. I wasn’t going to let them wear us down.

What was the atmosphere like in the back on the night of the match?

Vega: I’m not going to lie. I was nervous.

Vinyl: For me it was a mixture of nervousness and being psyched.

Vega: Well, my main goal was to walk out there and have a great match. I wanted to give the fans something to remember. I knew I needed to step up my game to hang with The Northstar Express.

Vinyl: I had full confidence in our team and I knew how good Corbin and Cruz are, so I had no doubt that the match would be good. It was all a matter o just how good. For me, it all just sort of washes away once our music hits, though. When it’s game time, it’s game time.

Did Northstar Express live up to the hype?

Vinyl: In my opinion they did, but that was never a doubt. They are incredibly talented and gave us the fight of our careers thus far.

Vega: They are seasoned wrestlers with years of tag experience under their belts, so of course they did.

Do you feel that this match puts the two of you on the map?

Vinyl: Boy, I hope so. The LWA website (www.lwawrestling.com) said that this was LWA’s best tag team match since the Motor City Machine Guns versus Dingo & Nick Tyson. That’s pretty high praise. I think that if nothing else this match has helped us turn a few heads.

Vega: I don’t think it will immediately pu us on the map, but as people begin recognizing how well both teams performed and that we aren’t a joke as a tag team the we’ll emerge as one of the best in the area.

Did you go into this match 100% sure of a victory?

Vega: If you haven’t noticed, Vinyl and I are very confident individuals. We go out there every time with the attitude that we are going to win.

Vinyl: There weren’t going to be any free rides in that match for the Northstar Express.

Have you received any more interest from outside promotions since your victory over Corbin and Cruz?

Vega: All American Pro Wrestling (AAPW) has a poll on their site (www.allamericanprowrestling.com) for the fans to vote on who they want to wrestle the LONRs for the AAPW Tag Team Titles. I’ve heard that we are ahead in the voting.

Vinyl: I’ve never worked for AAPW and Vinyl has only worked there once. I can only assume that some of this notoriety is from our victory over Northstar Express. I would love to work for AAPW because they have a great tag team division and the audience is radically different than what I am used to with LWA. It would be fun.

Vega: Outside of AAPW there hasn’t been much interest, yet. I think the shock will need to wear off from our big win and then more offers will roll in.

What are your thoughts on the LWA creating a tag team championship?

Vega: There have been some talks about tag titles in LWA for a long time, so hopefully it comes to fruition soon.

Vinyl: What would be the point in the LWA creating a tag team championship when there is only one team with the talent to hold it?

Vega: The belts already have a place reserved around our waists.

Where do the two of you go from here?

Vega: I plan on continuing to improve and make my name, no matter what it takes. I’ll take whatever challenge is set before me, so any company looking to book me can reach me at daveyvega85@gmail.com or http://www.myspace.com/daveyvega for booking information.

Vinyl: There is a list of companies we’d love to work for, like CHIKARA, IWA Mid South, American Luchacore, All American Wrestling, All American Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Phoenix, 3XWrestling, and more. If we continue to have matches like this past one with the Northstar Express, then we’ll be wrestling for them all sooner or later.

Any words for tag teams in the MWR coverage area?

Vinyl: I think the Midwest right now is in a strange state. We have one of the most shallow single wrestler pools, yet the tag team pool is very deep. We’d love to get in the ring with the LONRs, Phoenix Twins, Hybrds, Zero Gravity, B.A.B.E.WATCH, Osirian Portal, Cheech & Cloudy, Windy City Classic and anybody else we haven’t faced before. We’d love to keep wrestling talented teams like Northstar Express and Ego Express. If you’re a fan of tag team wrestling and you live in the Midwest, I believe right now is an exciting time and it’s only going to get better.

Vega: I can’t really add much else other than to say that I look forward to stepping in the ring with any tag team in the area.

Vinyl: Oh, and for more booking information for me go to http://www.myspace.com/bncjohnnyvinyl.

When two of the best tag teams of the Midwest hook up, the expectations for a great match is very high. On October 25th, at Pro Wrestling Phoenix the stakes were amplified. Adding on the fact that it would be for the PWP Tag team titles, as well as the spotlight of being a part of the Missouri Wrestling Revival “Best of the Midwest” DVD series.

After the dust settled between the defending Champions The LONRS (Mark Sterling and Darrin Sanders) and The Northstar Express (Ryan Cruz and Darin Corbin) the titles had changed and history had been made.

These two teams collided in a dream match that lived up to the hype and more. The action went back and forth between the two bitter enemies. The LONRS brought their “A” game and at moments looked to have the match well at hand. The Northstar to their credit withstood an early onslaught, as Sanders hit some killer kicks and Sterling nearly had the rare submission in tag team action with his “Markshooter” Sharpshooter. In the end the LONRS suffered a heartbreaking loss, but knew that they had been a part of something special. They showed respect to the Northstar Express by shaking their hands after the match but you know that they will look to regain the titles in the near future.

The bar has been set very high for others that will be a part of the MWR Best of the Midwest series thanks in part to the LONRS and the Northstar Express. The dream to help promote Independent Midwest wrestling around the world has started off in the right direction with this phenomenal match up.

I would like to thank Pro Wrestling Phoenix, the LONRS and the Northstar Express for letting MWR be a part of such an exciting event. We wish everyone involved the best and look forward to seeing them in action again very soon.

I hope that you look forward in the future for more MWR Sponsored “Best of the Midwest” matches in an independent wrestling show near you.

The Superstars of tomorrow are in the Midwest today!!

MWR would also like to congratulate Jeremy “The Rebel” Wyatt for becoming the PWP Heavyweight Champion. Wyatt was able to win the belt in the main event from the very dominating Abu Colossus in an epic battle.

A New Number One?

A New Number One?
The tag team scene heats up.

by Josh Ray
Owner-Editor
inadvertent.nerd@gmail.com

After what seemed like an eternity at the number one spot, the Northstar Express fell one spot to number two.  Taking their place at number one is the ultra-talented team known as The Phoenix Twins (Tweek & Dash).

The Phoenix Twins have received their fair share of accolades this year.  In the MWR coverage area for 2008, they have held the AAPW tag titles and wrestled in the MWR Match of the Month for March.  They’ve also been MWR Tag Team of the Month in March and May, as well as the Tag Team of the 1st Quarter.  While nipping at the heels of the Northstar Express since the beginning of the 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup, Tweek and Dash overtook them after capturing the Scott County Wrestling Tag Team Titles this month.

That’s not to say that Darin Corbin and Ryan Cruz are out of the hunt.  A very popular tag team, the Northstar Express suffered a setback when Darin Corbin injured his knee at a 3XWrestling show in Des Moines, IA in September.  He’s since recovered moderately from the injury and they’ve got a busy second half of October, but those matches are tough and could slow them down even further.

Another team that has slipped slightly in the tag team rankings is the team of Danny Daniels & Trik Davis, collectively known as Windy City Classic.  Windy City Classic had a tight grip on the Scott County Wrestling Tag Team Titles for a large portion of the year, but the talent and teamwork of teams such as Zero Gravity (Brett Gakiya & CJ Esparza) and Phoenix Twins caused them to wear down over time.  Both teams have tasted SCW Tag Title glory in the past two months.

The team to look out for is the LONRs (Darrien Sanders and Mark Sterling).  These guys have been on a steady climb as of late, and the month of October could prove to be their best yet.  The LONRs defeated the former number one team twice this year (Northstar Express) in successful defenses of the Pro Wrestling Phoenix Tag Team Titles, and last week defeated the new number one tag team (Phoenix Twins) to capture the All American Pro Wrestling Tag Titles.

The dark horse in the hunt for the MWR 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup for tag teams would have to be Lethal Wrestling Alliance’s top tag team, Davey Vega & Johnny Vinyl.  These two have competed solely in the LWA this year, a promotion without tag team titles to measure success.  Currently ranked 11th, these two have crawled within striking distance of the top ten and at press time were staring down the Northstar Express in a big match for bragging rights and a possibly push to the top of the rankings.

The 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup is coming to a close in the very near future and the fight for the championship is intensifying.  Who will take home the
