3XWrestling Set To Crown First King of Des Moines

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 15, 2009

3XWrestling Set To Crown First King of Des Moines
Iowa’s Top Wrestling Company Presents One Night Tournament

DES MOINES, Iowa – Hot off the heels of its Four Year Anniversary Event – which saw a standing-room only crowd of hundreds of fans pack the Des Moines Social Club – 3XWrestling (3XW) is gearing up to hold the biggest tournament in company history.

3XW’s first ever King of Des Moines tournament is scheduled to once again excite area wrestling fans at the Des Moines Social Club on August 21. This spectacular tournament features 11 top competitors doing battle in a unique three-round, one-night tournament format, with the winner being named the first “King of Des Moines” at the end of the night.

What makes this tournament unique in pro wrestling circles is that two of 3XW‘s championships will actually be defended in first round action. 3XW Cruiserweight champion “The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell, now in his 13th-month as titleholder, defends the championship against the demanding challenge of “The Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Slade. The 3XW Tag Team titles will also be defended as champions The Gentleman’s Club, Gage Octane and Mark Sterling, face mega-popular risk takers Mike Sydal and “The Unbreakable” Zach Thompson, collectively known as the High Flyers.

3XW‘s other top titles will also be defended in non-tournament action. “Delicious” Devin Carter defends the 3XW Heavyweight championship against the phenomenal Jeremy Wyatt, the 2008 MissouriWrestlingRevival.com “Wrestler of the Year,” in a much-anticipated main event bout. Tyler Cook also looks to retain the 3XW Pure Wrestling championship against the devastating offensive attack of Kraig Keesaman, who hasn’t tasted defeat since August 2008, in what should be an outstanding technical wrestling bout.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. start time. The Des Moines Social Club is located at 1408 Locust St. in Des Moines.

Wrestling fans can watch the latest episode of 3XW Outside the Ring at www.3XWrestling.com for more details on this spectacular event, including interviews with many of the competitors.

Looking ahead to the future, former WWE and MTV star Al Snow will compete as part of 3XW’s Sept. 18 event. More details to come about this huge addition to 3XW in a future release.

Founded in 2005, 3XWrestling, a Des Moines-based organization, has performed in front of thousands of fans across Iowa and been featured on Iowa Public Radio and in publications including Juice and Cityview. 3XW events are held monthly in Des Moines.

3XW and its performers are also heavily involved with charity work – a recent 3XW benefit event in Ottumwa, Iowa featuring one-legged wrestling star Zach Gowen raised over $10,000 to help the family of a young man whose leg was amputated due to his battle with cancer. All proceeds from the event we’re given to the family to offset medical costs, with every wrestler performing on a volunteer basis.

Neil “Diamond” Cutter is a One of a kind.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 13, 2009

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

Today there are many high profile second and third generation superstars dominating the wrestling landscape. Cowboy Bob Orton’s son WWE World Champion Randy Orton is at the top of the list along with Ted Dibiase’s son Ted JR who is a tag team partner of former NWA World Champion Dusty Rhodes youngest son Cody form the team known as “The Legacy”. The Midwest also has there eyes on Curt Hening’s son Joe and his daughter Amy as they have got their start in the area with Wrestling Legend Harley Race.

Families and wrestling have a special bond throughout the history of the sport. Throughout the years fans have watched in excitement as the families of the Von Erich’s, The Harts, The Guerrero’s and The Funk’s have brought tears of joy, sadness and at times hatred in the eyes of the special fraternity called “fans”.

This leads us to the Cutters, Devin and Mason Cutter. Two Brothers that have been in the thorn of Midwest wrestlers who have faced them just as days long gone by, when the brothers Frank and Jesse James terrorized the government who they felt had gave them no choice but to fight back. The James Gang were known as outlaws whereas the Cutlers are known as The Hooligans.

The Hooligans (Photo By Brian "Flair" Kelley)

The Hooligans (Photo By Brian "Flair" Kelley)

What is a Hooligan you ask? I caught up with Devin and Mason and Mason gave me a thorough explanation “We are known as The Hooligans, we represent a society called Skinheads. That does not mean we are racists because we are not. We proudly come from the working class where you take pride in hard work. Skinhead means that we stand up against a government that is slowly taking apart a society that once belonged to the working class. We will strap on our boots and march with our fellow working men and stomp out these fascists governments. In the end we will finally give the power back to the people the way it was meant to be.” he continued to say “United we stand in this movement, united we will stomp the oppressors out. We are not a gang, just brothers black and white we stand and fight, we fly no colors, our torn up knuckles and faded blue jeans are the colors we wear. We don’t need no gang to watch our ass just loyal friends from the working class. Arm and arm we fight as one. We should be labeled as the men and women that have built this society from scratch. We should be known simply as WORKING CLASS HEROES!!

Midwest fans have been watching The Hooligans join together as family going to war with Ian Rotten at IWA. What one may have missed is that there is a third Cutter.

The black sheep of the family - Neil Diamond Cutter(Photo Credit Brian "Flair" Kelley)

The black sheep of the family - Neil Diamond Cutter(Photo Credit Brian "Flair" Kelley)

His name is Neil “Diamond” Cutter, one would say he is a little on the strange side. While the Devin and Mason were planning and plotting on how to take a stand against the oppression in this politically correct world, “Lil” Cutter was in the back room listening to Neil Diamond classics, “Sweet Caroline” and “Kentucky Women” blaring much to the disdain of the Cutter family.

Mason Cutter confirmed this with displeasure in his voice. Neil would always be listening to those damn Neil Diamond cds all night. It drives us crazy. Mason Cutter

I was able to catch up with Neil at a recent Independent  Hardcore Wrestling show in Dupo, Illinois to get his thoughts on his brothers and there upcoming match in the semi title tournament match for the High Voltage Wrestling tag team titles to question weather he would be in the house to support his brothers all he could talk about was the BIG NEWS!!

Neil Diamond had his first ever online store!!?? Yes, now he can buy all his Diamond merchandise at one spot. The little Cutler was quite pleased with himself as he explained to me that “You can get all your Neil Diamond merchandise From the Neil Diamond messenger bag to the Brand new Neil Diamond album The Home Before Dark Deluxe Edition CD which features two BONUS tracks and a second DVD disc with up close and personal footage of the new music. Neil proudly stated “Brian, Don’t Buy it anywhere but from the online store because there you can get the free Neil Diamond Poster!”

With great advice from Neil withstanding, one can not discount the talent of the runt of the family. Fearlessness and toughness have never been in question from Neil, he showed that this April at IWA’S Bloodshowers part one when he assisted his brothers to get the win against the hardcore brothers known as Bad Breed, Ian and Axl Rotten in a Barbed Wire- match.

Neil’s single’s debut at IWA was against up and comer Juice Robinson. Neil must have stayed up late jamming to Neil’s classic “Walk on water” because no matter what he did he crashed and burned with the young pretty boy taking home the win, while his brothers Devin and Mason looked back in disgust.

”I don’t understand Neil Diamond music and even less as to why Neil loves it so damn much.” Devon Cutter

Wrestlers should not let Neil’s odd behavior or his size fool them. He is one of the most fearless wrestlers in the Midwest today. Going into the match with the youngest and smallest Cutler looks to be a cakewalk. When the bell rings he has the ability to use his body like a missile hitting you from every direction. When Neil goes to the top rope and comes down on you with such great height the downward momentum feels like he hit you with a sledgehammer.

Ian Rotten stood up for the lil Cutter at the show , “Truth Justice, and the IWA way” when he stated firmly “Neil has a bigger pair of balls than both of the Hooligans combined!”

Watch out for Neil’s Bombs Away”. While his opponent is down on their hands and knees thinking that it is safe , Neil runs onto their back and jumps straight up to delivers a pain full senton bomb. Explosive and deadly, Neil is always looking to hit one of the many versions of his Diamond Cutter for the win which he calls D.N.D (Dedication to Neil Diamond).

Neil may not be a household name today but this journalist has been around the MWR coverage area scouting talent and he is what you would call a sleeper. A poor mans Evan Bourne, Neil has some of the raw skills that the WWE’S Bourne possesses. Neil shocked the Midwest when he was able to get the biggest win in his short career this past May at IWA Mid-South when he defeated one of the top 5 stars in the Midwest Mark Sterling by delivering the patented D.N.D. Just a small glimpse of what the little guy can do.

In a world where big men rule the ring Neil’s breathtaking moves have the chance to steal the show and the spotlight at any event. Even from his big brothers who look down on him as he tries to show them that he is worthy of the Cutter name.

I will leave you with a request from Neil “Diamond” Cutter himself. MWR fans (I never thought I would be saying this) I give you Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline…..

To book Neil Diamond Cutter please contact him by hitting him up at his myspace at www.myspace.com/redneckextremist. To book The Hooligans please contact them at www.myspace.com/devinnmason

Ten reasons why you do not want to miss High Voltage Wrestling on August 15

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 10, 2009

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

Pro wrestling fans, there are many shows to attend this August, but the one you will not want to miss is High Voltage Wrestling on August 15, 2009. TNT Keny G has broken out the piggy bank to give the fans the best in Midwest pro wrestling. Keny G said it best—“HVW fans will have a buffet of wrestling action on the 15th in Granite City, IL as we are bringing out all the stars to celebrate our return,”

Keny G pulled out all the stops to provide you, the fans, with the best bang for your buck. Let’s take a look at the Top 10 reasons you do not want to miss High Voltage Wrestling.

1.The HVW Champion Donovan Ruddick will defend his HWV Heavyweight Championship against the most hyped wrestler in 2009, the HVW Livewire Champion Kahagas.

HVW Poster

Poster by EA

Kahagas has toured around the world this summer and received an invitation to participate in the IWA Ted Petty International tournament in September and will return to his home promotion to try to prove his dominance over one of the most powerful men in the Midwest.

Ruddick is powerful, standing at 6”9. Many have stated that the man is just one step away from the WWE. Managed by the The Magic Man, Ruddick looks to impose his will on the Tokyo Monster. Ruddick taking on Kahagas has been boiling for some time. The HVW Arena will be crazy when these two go at it in a FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE MATCH!!!

2.Santana G’s debut.

Photo By Michael R Van Hoogstraat

Photo By Michael R Van Hoogstraat

With a huge void in the Midwest womens wrestling scene, Santana G has been the buzz of the summer. Training at the NWA Dynamo Gym, word has it that she has been working hard to learn her craft. Beautiful and sweet, Santana G was put in the line of fire when B.A.B.E.Watch members Brandon Aarons and Brandon Espinosa jumped her dad, Keny G, in the middle of the ring at the last show. Fan favorite Juice Robinson made the save and Santana’s dad let Aarons know that at this show he was to get a female tag team partner as Santana G would be teaming up with Juice for a mixed tag team match.

Come to HVW and be able to say that you were there when Santana made her wrestling debut.

One can not forget that two of the Young guns of the sport are in this match Juice Robinson and Brandon Aarons are the future of the sport and this will be the first match between this two but one would assume that these two will meet each other many times in the future.

3.Mississippi Madman comes to HVW !!

As punishment for the beatdown of TNT Keny G, Brandon Espinosa will have to face Keny G’s hired gun, the Mississippi Madman. The Mississippi Madman is a nice guy out of the ring but when the bell rings, the big man is one bad man. I caught up with the Mississippi Madman and he had these words for Brandon Espinosa.

4.The 2008 MWR Wrestler of the Year Jeremy Wyatt.

Poster by Kari Williams

Poster by Kari Williams

One of the baddest men on the planet, Jeremy Wyatt will be in the house. You never know what the Rebel is up to. The most talked about guy in the MWR coverage area, Jeremy Wyatt has arguably had a better year in 2009.

5. PWE US Title Defense

Mark Sterling defeated Hunter Mathews and Krotch for the PWE US title in June. Can he survive the speed of Gary J and Rebel Lucha? Both of these superstars are coming off heartbreaking title losses at HVW with Ruddick beating Rebel Lucha and Kahagas stopping Gary J. Sterling returns to HVW with PWE gold, will he be able to walk out with it, is the question.
HVW PWE Triple

6.The semi finals to the HVW Tag team tournament.

Tag team action at its best. The Hooligans, the Bandana Mafia, Zero Gravity and Nick Brubaker will be in the house with a partner of his choice. Who will emerge as the first ever HVW Tag team Champions?

We caught up with The Hooligans and they sent a warning the teams at HVW

7.Wrestlecraps Blade Braxton
Wrestlecrap 2
Since 2000, WrestleCrap.com has been THE definitive source for all the worst of professional wrestling. Whether it be an evil one-eyed midget named Cheatum or grown men fighting over an uncooked turkey, WrestleCrap is the place to kick back and laugh at the dumbest stuff ever presented in – and outside – a wrestling ring!

Come to High Voltage Wrestling to meet Blade Braxton one of the co-authors of one of my favorite books WrestleCrap book of List. Blade works hard on the website and will be sponsoring the special appearance of The Midnight Rose in the first ever HVW Battle Royal.

8.Dingo

If you don’t like watching Dingo, then you just don’t like wrestling. Many believe that he is the most exciting wrestlers in the past few years in St Louis. Dingo’s last appearance in HVW was in a victory over Kahagas. Dingo looks to add HVW gold to his illustrious resume. That may be easier said that done. Dingo is set to match up with Tony Kozina. Kozina will be making his debut at HVW with full intentions of leap frogging Dingo to the title. Two wrestlers who can really go, this could be the match of the night.

9.Battle Royal
Who has it in them to claim the first ever HVW Battle Royal?

10. Will Mark Bland be brave enough to show.
awr

My money is on the fact that Bland is all talk and no go, but HVW has sent him and invite to show up. The feud of 2009 has been HOT all summer. It started with Absoulte Wrestling Radio’s Matt Krueger insulting “Future” Donovan Ruddick in the middle of the ring. Bland was not happy about it all and called out promoter TNT Keny G during his show. Keny would infiltrate the show and take it over when Bland was out of town. Mark Bland then viciously attacked TNT Keny G at The Fan Shop in St. Louis, leaving him bruised and battered. The two had words at Six Flags during a special AWR broadcast in June.

Bland wants a match with Ruddick and promises to knock him out. Will Mark Bland be brave enough to show, or will he take my advice and stay far far away?

PWE June 20th Recap- Bloody Harker Dirge , Mark Sterling wins US title and Keith Walker vs. Mississippi Madman

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 9, 2009

By Brian Kelley

Pro Wrestling Entertainment returned on June 20th with some of the biggest stars in the Midwest. The PWE Champion “Bloody” Harker Dirge was set to defend his title that he had won from former ECW/WWE Superstar Al Snow against the Red Hot Kahagas.

Kahagas who just the night before was invited to IWA’S Ted Petty Invitational looked to take the title back to Florida. Also on the line was the PWE Tag team Champions Zero Gravity (Brett Gakiya & CJ Esparza) putting the belts against Feature Presentation of Eric Ruffington & Blake Steel.

The PWE US title was vacated so we were treated with a three way between some of the youngest stars in the sport with Krotch, Mark Sterling and Hunter Matthews.

If you are a fan of the BIG men, they do not get any bigger than the battle of the Mississippi Madman and Keith Walker. Two of the most powerful men in the Midwest went toe to toe. The match was a dream match that had to be contained by another giant of the Midwest “The Future”
Donovan Ruddick
.

Speaking of a dream match a personally one of mine was at PWE when the 2008 MWR Wrestler of the year Jeremy Wyatt was in action taking on the young and exciting Shane Hollister.

Other of my favorites was in action too. Curly was there, Mike Sydal, Matt Cage, Nick Brubaker and more showcased the Midwest.

With a star studded card from top to bottom the crowd PWE was set though the attendance was small A problem arose and they had to put the ring on the parking lot but that didn’t stop all the wrestlers from going out in the heat and having a great card.

MWR Fans I give you a photo essay of PWE.

Dubi Meets the LWA Superfans

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 6, 2009

By Dubi-“Bear”

If you like beer, brats and wrestling then you should have come with me to House Springs on July 25, as I partied with the LWA Superfans.

Throughout the years of going to shows around the Midwest with my boyfriend, Brian, we have made many friends, no matter what federation we go to. One of my favorite friends goes by Big Al. Big Al is a huge Jordan Lacey fan and a loveable guy with a great sense of humor. He invited us to the LWA tailgate party prior to the show. And, as they say in Rock, let the good times roll.

The afternoon was beautiful and the beer was good. Several of the LWA crew joined us for laughs and food. The wild and crazy Steven Kennedy came out of the locker room and had stolen someone’s wrestling shorts and put them over his pants to entertain the party. I had a delicious jalapeño brat and got caught up with what was happening with Referees Eric Davis and Kiwi Jello. Even Adam Raw couldn’t resist coming out and hanging with us. Before we went in to watch matches, we all posed for a group photo for Kari Williams for an article to be published at a later date.

When the show began, I was already feeling a buzz and excited about seeing Michael Strider again. Strider and Derek Stone were the first two wrestlers who I became a fan of when I first saw pro wrestling live. On this evening, Strider took on Mark Sterling, who was also one of the first I saw, whom, at the time, I was not impressed with. Nearly five years later, Sterling is now one of the top reasons I enjoy going to wrestling.

Also on the card was the sexy Tyler Cook. Girls, if you have not seen Tyler Cook, you do not know what you are missing. He is a work of art, or, at least eye-candy.

I got to my seat with a full cup of beer to start the show. The problem was I kept spilling my beer on the floor, with a little help from my friends, on myself, and on others throughout the night. At intermission, I was on my mission to seek out LWA fans to do this article. Due to the fact that I was having such a good time, I asked my friend Dawn to assist me in finding fans of the LWA.

The first fan I caught up with was with my good friend Big Al; her name was Mallory Willson, a seven year fan. She insisted that her all-time favorite was Bruce VanChan who retired about four years ago and was “one of the originals from Adam Raw’s garage,” according to Willson. That was before my time of watching LWA, and she wanted her picture with fellow Superfan Justin Poole.

The next fan I spoke to came to see Adam Raw in action. His name was Ryan Hughes, and he has been going to LWA for close to two years. Adam Raw, unfortunately, was unable to wrestle on this evening, though he was more than happy to take a picture with young Ryan.

Running around, I found Adrian Hooper, who had been going to LWA for four years. Adrian was a fan of Steven Kennedy. Kennedy used to be cocky and arrogant, but lately he has been a really cool guy, and I was happy he took the time for me to snap a picture with Adrian.

Last, but not least, was Michael Mayberry. Michael and I have something in common—we are both impressed with Donovan Ruddick. You can call him “The Future” or the “6’9” Monster,” but I think that he is AWESOME. So did Michael. The intermission was done. and I asked Michael that if he waited after the show, I would asked LWA Management if Ruddick would come out. You never know what kind of mood The Future is in, so I told Michael I wasn’t for sure. Lucky for me, they were able to get him to come out, and Ruddick was polite and smiled.

“The Future” Donovan Ruddick with one of his biggest fans Michael Maberry.

Aww the night was over and the room was spinning but we had a great time of hanging with friends at the Lethal Wrestling Alliance.

I am hoping to make  the MMWA-SICW show Saturday at South Broadway. On Aug. 15 I will be in Granite City for High Voltage Wrestling. Look forward to the next installment of Dubi meets the fans.

One last thought…..
Michael Strider lost the NWA Central States Championship to Mark Sterling and announced that he was walking away but the fans will always have the memories of one of the toughest guys I ever saw. I leave you with a picture of him posing with me and another fan who truly enjoyed watching him. I have to say it one last time….STRIDER NATION…you will be missed.

NWA Dynamo April Recap Jerry Lynn vs. Mark Sterling

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 22, 2009

Is Mark Sterling a future World Champion? Many experts throughout the Midwest believe so. On April 28, Sterling had the rare opportunity at NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling in Ottawa, KS to take on a current World Champion when he went head to head with Ring of Honor Champion Jerry Lynn. Would he be able to hang with the best in the World?

Before we found out, NWA Dynamo continued their tradition of bringing some of the youngest, freshest stars in the Midwest with Adam Rich taking on Aaron Hawley. Hawley and Rich were pumped up early, matching each other move for move. Less than two minutes into the match, one of the most powerful men that I have ever seen entered the ring, the mysterious Alexander Rudolph. Rudolph demolished Hawley and Rich and the referee declared the bout a no contest. OuTtKaSt came from out of the locker room quickly to stop the destruction. The two men quickly went at it and the battle escalated outside the ring and into the crowd, and then the two brawled into the locker room.

I must say with the excitement of Sterling taking on Jerry Lynn and the powerful Alexander Rudolph, I forgot to mention that none other than one of my best friends and fellow Missouri Wrestling Revival colleague, Josh Ray, stepped up to announce this monumental evening.

Up next, the Latino badass Domino Rivera took on fan favorite Super Electro, making his Kansas debut. The kids were excited to see the wrestler from Space Station 11, who is programmed with 1,000 moves and capable of every emotion except love. The always-dangerous Rivera looked to rain on the kid’s parade with technical wrestling and a ruthless style.

Domino kicked, punched and stretch Super Electro, and Electro made the mistake of taking it out of the ring. It looked as Rivera would have his hand raised when he had Electro in submission move.

The fans would not let Electro quit. Electro traded punch for punch and hit the ropes, which landed him into an Arn Anderson gutbuster. Rivera got a two count, which caused his frustration to set in and Electro struck with a choke slam for the one, two, three.

OuTtKaSt entered the ring to challenge Alexander Rudolph to a match the next time that NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling returns to Ottawa—a match that will sure to be a must see.

The Powerful and very popular Trent Stone came to the ring with fans excited to see him take on Pierre Abernathy, accompanied by Submission Squad Member Evan Gelistico. Abernathy started off trying to administer an arm bar, but Stone powered out of it quickly and flexed his muscles. Abernathy unwisely decided to show his “guns” which prompted “You suck!!” chants from Stone’s admirers. Abernathy tried to slow down Stone and play mind games. Stone looked to have the match going his way when he hit a bodyslam followed by a dropkick. With Abernathy in the corner, Stone went full force but Abernathy moved out of the way, sending Stone shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Abernathy pounced on the wounded Stone’s shoulder relentlessly, causing the referee to issue a warning. With the referee distracted, Gelistico took a cheap shot at Stone.

Abernathy and Gelistico succeeded to stymie any offense that Stone was able to muster. Kansas was getting restless while Stone took a beating. Abernathy continued to punish the arm and shoulder, in the process, keeping the big man off his feet. With victory in their sights, the Submission Squad threw it all away with a foolish move. Gelistico jumped up on the ring apron and attempted to hit Stone with a white powder, but Stone countered, sending Aberanthy toward Gelistico. Gelistico stopped himself before he threw it; Abernathy had that moment of relief, but Stone tossed Abernathy back into his tag team partner who accidentally hit him with the powder anyway. Stone wrapped up the disoriented Abernathy for the victory.

With the crowd popping from the last match, up next was the man who I feel is one of the guys who can keep my attention from start to finish—Mike Sydal.

Sydal has quickly improved in the past year and is rising among the Midwest elite with very entertaining matches. Sydal’s opponent on this night was KC Karrington. Karrington was last seen involved in two of the best tag team matches in the Kansas City area in the past 10 years with Ego Express tag team partner Steven Kennedy taking on the LONRs, Mark Sterling and Darien Sanders otherwise known as the LONRS.

Here we have Mike Sydal skipping to the ring. (Photo Credit Dubray Tallman )

Sydal entered the ring prancing, dancing and posing for all to see. Boos and heckling proceeded relentlessly until Karringtons music hit the armory. Sydal was really able to get the Kansas natives upset with his pretty pink and blue outfit. Karrington did not help matters by going along with the fans insults.
NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling Jerry Lynn vs. Mark Sterling 124

Karington took the advantage early and Sydal retreated to the outside turnbuckle. Karrington grew impatient and chased after him, which led to Sydal setting him up with a big boot to the face. Sydal seemed to gain confidence and pounded Karrington. When Karrington try to maneuver himself in a position to get ahead, Sydal was one step ahead of him.

The fans were not happy and chants of “Fairy Boy” rang through the building. Sydal looked to get the win on several attempts but the heart of Karrington has never been in question and he was able to gut it out. You could see the frustration set in Sydal’s face when he had a headlock on his opponent and the crowd clapped to urge Karrington to fight through. Karrington’s big break came when he hit a belly to belly suplex. Sydal quickly regained the advantage, but when he went for a backwards moonsault from the ground, Karrington just barely got his knees up. Karrington saw the light with Sydal hurt and went to the top to hit a flying body press, but Sydal was able to reverse it for the win.

During intermission, the Ring of Honor World Champion Jerry Lynn thanked the fans for coming. I took the time to talk to old and new friends during the show and everyone I talked to was impressed at how down to earth Lynn was. A true Champion in every sense of the word.

Wyatt hits a big move on his old enemy Biggs (Photo Credit Dubray Tallman)

With a fun and exciting first half done, we headed to three exciting matches that had talent galore. The first match back we were treated to a three way with the one man in the Midwest capable of causing a riot, Jeremy Wyatt, taking on the NWA Mid America TV Champion Shawn Shultz and the ever popular Shorty Biggs. All three men in this match up have held gold throughout the Midwest, but Shultz upped the ante by stating that his title would be on the line and whoever pinned him would be the Champ. The crowd did not like the words coming from the mouth of the NWA Mid America Champion.

The crowd was easily on Shorty’s side going into this match against two of the toughest men in the Midwest. Biggs had the place rocking with “Shorty” chants while he danced in the ring. Shultz wisely made Biggs an offer for the two of them to team up and work over Wyatt. Biggs, though, is his own man and looked to win this the right way and when the two were about the shake on it, Biggs withdrew to let him know that this was going to be a three way and the best man would win it.

Shultz quickly changed direction and asked Wyatt to team up on Biggs. Wyatt has always shown that he would do what it takes to live up to his name, The Belt Collector, and had no qualms against double teaming one of his most hated enemies. The two pounced on Biggs but Biggs was ready and beat them to the punch. Biggs hit a double shoulder block on Wyatt and Shultz, then went to the corner to work over Shultz, giving Wyatt a chance to catch his breath and strike from behind. Biggs rebounded nicely and used his wits to get the upper hand.

While Wyatt and Shultz argued outside the ring, Biggs sent them sailing with a double kick from inside the ring much to the fans delight. Biggs continued to punish Shultz then went after Wyatt, sending him back inside the ring. Shultz had time to recover and once again attempted to strike Biggs, who countered with a body slam then headed to the top. Biggs’ good fortunes came crashing down when, at the top rope, Wyatt was able to get a hold of Biggs’s foot. Biggs kicked Wyatt off but paid dearly when Shultz sent Biggs flying off the top ropes with a thud.

The two villains went at Biggs relentlessly, at times it looked like a competion to see who could administer the most pain to the fan favorite. With Shultz standing on Biggs face, Wyatt taunted him with words, enticing the crowd, getting the Shorty chants going full steam. Problems arose when Wyatt went for a pinfall, and Shultz made the save. Still, Wyatt allowed Shultz to hit a version of a Shake rattle and roll then got up to dance, Wyatt then snuck up from behind attempting to get the win and steal the NWA Mid-America Title.

While Wyatt and Shultz battled in the middle, Biggs caught his breath and made an impact with a double clothesline. One had to wonder, would Biggs have enough in the gas tank to get the victory? I thought I had my answer when Biggs looked to have the three count on Wyatt, but the Rebel kicked out. Shultz went on the offensive, allowing Wyatt to retreat outside of the ring. Shultz looked to have the match won, as he hit a killer DDT on Biggs. However, Wyatt was one step ahead on this night as he pulled Shultz to the outside of the ring and head first in the guard rails, then quickly went inside for the victory on Biggs with his feet on the ropes.

DSCN6055

Jeremy Wyatt believes he just won Shawn Shultz NWA Mid America Championship (Photo Credit Dubray Tallman)

Wyatt’s music played and The Belt Collector looked to have added to his collection but Shultz screamed for the ref to give him back his belt. The reason? Wyatt had not pinned the Champ himself, so therefore he did not win the title.

Shultz was outside the ring hoisting his title, Wyatt inside the ring with Josh letting the fans know that he was the winner. A one on one match up between these two looks to be one that the fans will not want to miss.

#1 Brett Young and Tyler Cook was a special non title grudge match between the two arch enemies. A main event player and the proud owner of the NWA Kansas Championship, Young has been in some of the most memorable matches that I have ever seen. These two were awarded the Match of the month last November in Pomona, KS by the MWR awards committee.

DSCN6085

DSCN6094

DSCN6096

Cook has really looked to elevate his game, but Young knows all the tricks of the game and at times seemed to be playing with the rising star. Young grounded Cook at every chance he got, all while working the crowd in frenzy. Cook kept fighting, much to the fans’ delight, and was able to get the one two three and the momentum in the feud against the NWA Kansas Champion.

DSCN6106

DSCN6116

The stage was set to see how Mark Sterling would fare against the number one wrestler in the World. Lynn offered his hand to show Sterling respect in the middle of the ring, but Sterling licked his hand out of disrespt then offered it to Lynn who wisely withdrew. Mind Games from Sterling, perhaps? Maybe, but Lynn has seen it all and quickly went after the young star.

Surprisingly, Sterling powered Lynn into the corner only to have Lynn get away. The two quickly played a game of chess as each one went for a move and the other had a counter. Sterling had the edge with the power game, but Lynn’s quickness and experience offset him.

DSCN6125

Lynn looked to go for a pile driver after hitting Sterling with a kick to the gut, but Sterling high tailed it outside of the ring. The fans chanted “Loser!” as Sterling relented back by jawing with the fans. Back in the ring, Sterling went full force against the champion with a shoulder uppercut, before out of nowhere Lynn hit a frankenstiener. Sterling was reeling once again and cowered in the corner. With the fans a rocking and Lynn’s guard down, Sterling struck by forcefully sending Lynn into the turnbuckle.

DSCN6126

Lynn was hurt, and Sterling smelled the blood. Sterling went out of the ring, then grabbed Lynn’s arm to drag him to the turnbuckle, doing considerable damage. Sterling was more than proud of himself as he put his arms in the air towards the fans as if to say, “I told you so.”

DSCN6130

DSCN6134

Back in the ring, Sterling was relentless as he went for Lynn’s injured arm. Lynn attempted a comeback but his left arm prevented him from tossing Sterling into the ropes. Every move and every moment was focused on the arm as he could sense he was moments away from victory.

The ref asked Lynn if he wanted to quit but the heart of a Champion showed when he would not submit. Sterling went for an elbow drop and missed. Lynn crawled to the corner. Sterling made his first mistake. He went full force into the ropes, but Lynn was not home. Lynn used all his energy to hit Sterling with two shoulder blocks then a flying clothesline. In moments, the fans saw the World Champion go to the top rope to hit a flying body press and get a two count.

Sterling went back to the injured arm to get the advantage once again. Lynn hit a knee to the midsection near the corner turnbuckle then went back to the top to attempt a spinning DDT. Sterling fought it off and delivered a clothesline sending Lynn down on the mat. Sterling, pulling out all stops went to the second row, to attempt a moonsault and secure the victory.

DSCN6143

A few seconds later Lynn had recovered and this time hit a dead on Spinning DDT of the top ropes. Lynn had the pin, 1-2—-Sterling kicked out? Lynn pleaded to the ref for the slow count, and this gave Sterling time to recover. Sterling dropped Lynn with a kick near the corner post then used the ropes for leverage. One, two—but the ref saw the legs on the ropes and stopped the count. Sterling then went for a pile driver of his own. Lynn powered out and sent Sterling over head. Then, as Sterling, looked to pull Lynn down, the Champion suffocated Sterling and grabbed the legs for the hard fought victory.

The match was over, the test was completed and though Sterling did not win the match he had the Champion of the World in trouble. NWA Dynamo once again proved that some of the best wrestling in the Midwest comes in and out of their ring.

In a nearly 40 minute brawl, these two athletes threw everything at each other, but the desire to be champion kept both of them pushing forward. Wyatt treated Karrington as an unworthy contender but quickly realized that Karrington’s desire matched his own. LWA Circus Maximus VI Arena Report

Posted by reimaginejournalism on June 28, 2009

By Kari Williams

Lethal Wresting Alliance underwent monumental changes on June 20 at Circus Maximus, including a new LWA Heavyweight Champion, the retirement of the LWA Medallion and the introduction of three new medallions. The 102 fans at the Knights of Columbus hall got their money’s worth and then some at what one could argue was the best show of the summer, thus far.

“Thee” Brandon Espinosa and Mike Sydal took on Dash Rando and Rebelucha, accompanied by Super Electro, in the opening bout. Despite never tagging together, Rando and Rebelucha worked extremely well as a team. The highflying styles of the two men meshed perfectly, creating a formidable offense. They sent Espinosa running to Sydal for comfort on more than one occasion.

Still, even with the absence of “Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons, B.A.B.E.WATCH kept their opponents on edge. The one-man advantage for Rebelucha and Rando worked in their favor, as they decisively won the match with double frogsplashes followed by double pinfalls, with Rebelucha pinning Sydal and Rando pinning Espinosa.

Adam Raw announced Tim Alley as the new LWA Commissioner due to Raw vacating the position for a spot on the active roster. Alley quickly addressed the problems within the LWA—President Luke Roberts’ recent actions, the pairing of Shorty Biggs and Dorian Victor for the Tag Title match and $15 front row tickets. In his first act as commissioner, he announced the retirement of the Medallion and the introduction of the Medallion Triad. A wrestler must obtain all three medallions (Torment/Submission, Pain/Pinfall, Brutality/No Disqualification) to earn a shot at the Heavyweight Title.

The first of the three medallions, Torment, was put on the line as “Spitfire” Davey Vega returned to take on “All American” Adam Rich. Both men did their best to wear down the other for a submission victory. Vega focused his attack on the lower back, in hopes of setting up the Texas Cloverleaf.

Rich would not be deterred and did everything in his power to combat Vega. Despite Rich’s power and his ‘hulking up,’ Vega had worn down the All American more throughout the bout to force him to tap to the Texas Cloverleaf.

Alley announced that the winner of the following match would earn the Medallion of Pain. Eric Allen had to try and defeat Gorgeous Jordan, formerly XXX Jordan Lacey. Jordan addressed the crowd, saying that when he lost to Jeremy Wyatt, he said that XXX would never be in the ring again.

Gorgeous Jordan, formerly XXX Jordan Lacey, returned to take on Eric Allen in a match for the Medallion of Pain, which could only be won via pinfall. Photo by Kari Williams

Lacey needed time to collect his thoughts, forget the fans and focus on the LWA title. Jordan barely gave Allen any chance for offense. Jordan’s time away from the ring did more harm than good for Allen, as the gorgeous one pummeled Allen relentlessly from bell to bell. Jordan decisively pinned Allen to become the second Medallion winner of the evening.

The Submission Squad of Pierre Abernathy and Evan Gelistico defended their LWA Tag Team titles against the Luke Roberts-assembled team of Dorian Victor and Shorty Biggs. Victor attempted to convince the fans and Biggs that he had changed, and it appeared that way when after Abernathy and Gelistico raised his hands, he attacked them.

From that point on, Biggs and Victor looked as if they would work well together. But the cohesiveness of the Submission Squad, and Roberts’ presence at ringside deterred the unlikely tandem. In the closing moments, Victor turned on Biggs, powerbombed him, and allowed Abernathy to get the pin and retain the titles.

After the match, Roberts got on the mic and told the crowd that he was proud to represent the LWA fans, Jeremy Wyatt as the Heavyweight Champion, and Victor himself. He then verbally assaulted Biggs, who attacked Roberts in retaliation and told Victor that he “will rue the day [he] crossed the Don Mega.”

Once returning from intermission, “Spoiled” Steven Kennedy battled Gary the Nightowl, with Tiffani LaFane, in a street fight for the Medallion of Brutality. The two men wasted no time in taking the fight to the outside, where they battled through the crowd and where Gary forced Kennedy to collide with the brick wall. As Kennedy and Gary made their way back to ringside, Gary pulled out a screwdriver to use on Kennedy.

However, Kennedy wrestled it away from the Nightowl and dished out the punishment. Minutes later, Gary brought a ladder into the mix, which signaled the beginning of the end. Both men threw each other into the ladder on more than one occasion, but it was Kennedy powerbombing Gary onto the ladder that sealed his fate. Kennedy walked away with the Medallion of Brutality and talked about K.C. Karrington’s match with Wyatt, saying that he will always be there for Karrington.

“The Japanese Nightmare” Kahagas made his LWA debut against Mark Sterling in an impressive bout. Sterling looked hesitant to start the match, but once it got underway, fans witnessed Sterling’s tenacity yet again and Kahagas’ athletic expertise.

The Japanese Nightmare took the fight to ringisde, and just barely escaped a Kendo Stick hit from Sterling as they battled through the crowd. Once they made their way back to the ring, Sterling dominated, but the unorthodox Kahagas would not go down easily and pulled out all the stops. That was not enough to stop Sterling, who used his wit and ring presence to secure the win by pinning Kahagas with his feet on the ropes for leverage.

K.C. Karrington had his work cut out for him in the main event, as he challenged Wyatt for the LWA Title. In a brawl that lasted nearly 40 minutes, these two athletes threw everything at each other, but the desire to be champion willed both of them on. Wyatt treated Karrington as an unworthy contender but soon realized that Karrington would not lay down for the champion.

Both men went to unbelievable lengths to prove who the better competitor was, including Karrington launching over the top rope onto a wounded Wyatt on the outside. Many nearfalls and narrow escapes occurred, one of them being Wyatt inadvertently hitting himself in the head with a steel chair as it bounced off the ring ropes.

At one point, even the referee became a victim. Wyatt could have retained his belt after connecting with the lightning spiral, but with the ref down, he resorted to having Sterling interfere on his behalf. Biggs saw the events unfolding and chased Sterling to the back before any damage could be done. Karrington then hit Wyatt with a DDT from the second rope and made his dream come true.
