10 Questions with the LWA Champ KC Karrington

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 18, 2009

LWA Kingpin KC Karrington

LWA Kingpin KC Karrington

Years Wrestling:5
Trained by: Dingo
First match: Vs. El Uno Loco, Mid America Xtreme (MAX) Wrestling
Finishing maneuver: The Cunning Stunt

Date, place and who you beat to become LWA Champ: June 20,2009 O’Fallon IL Knights of Columbus, Jeremy Wyatt

Brian Kelley:I am joined today with the current LWA Champion KC Karrington. In less than a year KC has transformed himself from one half of the top tag team in St Louis, The Ego Express with his tag team partner Steven Kennedy to reigning LWA Champion.
KC thank you for joining us today.

KC Karrington Any time, thanks for having me.

1) How did you get into the sport?

KC Karrington: I’ve got to admit, I got into the business through sheer dumb luck. More or less, being in the right place at the right time. I was attending a Gateway Championship Wrestling show, merely as a fan. During intermission, I got to talking to the woman sitting next to me, and she started telling me that her son was a year younger than I was, sixteen at the time, and that he was training at a new promotion called Mid America Xtreme in Alton, IL. I was living in Edwardsville at the time, which is about thirty minutes from Alton. My main issues that kept me from really pursuing training were my age and the fact that to train with Gateway I would have to drive to Missouri every week. Not having a job and being in school five days of the week, it really wasn’t an option. So, even though my main goal was to get to GCW, I decided that getting trained at MAX would have to do for the time being. She talked to me for a while, introduced me to the trainer, and I started attending regularly. I would say that I learned the bare basics at MAX. I wrestled under a different name, copied my idol, Ric Flair, verbatim, and really stunk up the place. On a brighter note, MAX was where I first teamed with Steven Kennedy, and we really became good friends. Long story short, the company folded, and after a lot of prodding and nudging, Kennedy got me to come to the GCW school. I basically had to be re-programmed, because I was put in the ring WAY too early at MAX. I may have learned my basics from the MAX trainer, but Dingo taught me how to be a professional wrestler.

2) In a very young age you have been able top make an impact, what have been the keys to your success?

KC Karrington: I credit the success I do have to the people that have trained me, and have helped me become confident in my wrestling. I honestly owe everything I’ve done professionally to Dingo, SSK, Sadie Blaze, Evil Jim, Shorty Biggs. They have all helped me, encouraged me, and told me when something flat out sucked. I respect everyone of them more than they’ll ever know. On a personal note, I have a younger brother and sister who are everything to me. The feeling I get when they come to the shows and I see them sitting in the crowd cheering me on……that’s what it’s all about. They are my biggest fans, and they are what keep me going.

3) Lets start out with your time with tag team partner and good friend Steven Kennedy, collectively the two of you are the Ego Express. I have to say that you are one of the most exciting and entertaining tag teams that I have seen in the MWR coverage area. How did that tag team come to be?

KC Karrington: “He’s making a peak hour call!!!”……..Sorry, kind of an inside joke. It all started at MAX. As I mentioned, I was nowhere near ready to be in the ring, and they more or less told me to go to the ring and be Ric Flair. I didn’t know how to be me when I was in the ring. Then, I was put into a faction with SSK and the rest is history. Through working with him, I really got comfortable in front of a crowd, and we just really went out and did what we wanted to do. The best part was, it was fun and it got over. After MAX went under, I really had no interest in wrestling anywhere else, because I knew that I didn’t know what I was doing. God, it seemed like at least once a week SSK would call me and say, “So, are you gonna come train at Gateway or what?”. I put it off for a while, but, as anybody that knows him can attest to, Kennedy can be very persuasive. When they really felt I was properly trained, I made my GCW debut and SSK and I tagged with each other regularly. We won the GCW Tag Team Championships together twice, and that is one of my top achievements. We were the bad guys at the time, and we just went to the ring and did as much as we possibly could to piss everybody off. The crowd hated us….but they loved to hate us. That’s why it was so easy for us to be more fan friendly. Something that The Ego Express has in it’s favor that not a lot of tag teams in the area have, is that we interact with each other the exact same way inside the ring as we do outside the ring. We play off of each other and make each other crack up constantly. Not many tag teams on the indy scene that I know of go get “wingy” and then catch a movie. I think of the guy like the big brother I never had, and I really do look up to him.

4) The Ego Express have went up with some of the top tag teams in the Midwest, if MWR were to put out a BEST OF THE EGO EXPRESS. What would some of the match listing look like?

KC Karrington: Very first match on that list would be the TLC match we had in LWA with Dingo and Davey Vega for the LWA Tag Titles. Being out there with two men that I hold in the highest regard, and absolutely tearing the house down is something that I really enjoyed. Our soap opera saga that we went through with Vega and Johnny Vinyl would be right behind that. Our two matches in NWA : Dynamo Pro with The LONR’s (Mark Sterling & Darrien Sanders) as well. I learn more wrestling with Sterling than just about anybody else that I’ve ever stepped into the ring with. When we first started in Gateway, we had some really good matches with Sean Vincent and Rebecca Raze that I enjoyed very much. Of course, working with the North Star Express was a feather in our collective cap. Those two have been all over, and are one of the best teams in the country. I feel like we were able to hang well with them. Recently, we had a match with Mark Sterling and Jeremy Wyatt that I was very proud of. Like Sterling, I feel like I grow as a wrestler everytime I get to step into the ring with Wyatt. Of course, I can’t chew for a few days, but I enjoy it for some reason.

5) I have to admit that I am a big fan of good tag team wrestling. I would love to see the Ego Express travel to 3XW to take on the tag team The Gentleman’s Club of Mark Sterling and Gage Octane or go head to head Barrio Boys Domino Rivera and Angel Medina in Kansas. Is there any tag team that you would like to test your skills against?

KC Karrington: The Bario Boys are definitely on that list. I’ve only gotten to see them a few times, but I’ve got to say that I was impressed. The Hooligans are another tag team that I have seen a few times, and I’d like to see how Kennedy and I would do against them. Plus, they seem to enjoy beating the snot out of the Submission Squad, which I am always a fan of.

6) When one talks about the history of the Ego Express and KC Karrington we can not have a conversation without talking about your former manager, as conniving as she is beautiful Tiffany LeFane. In one of the most shocking moments that I can recall she turned on you at the 2008 Circus Maximus, by throwing a fireball and taking the side of the Submission Squad. I feel that she is one of the top managers in the Midwest but one could argue that you have found more success without her in your corner. Would you say it would be fair to say that you were able to use her turn on you as motivation?

KC Karrington: Her turning on me is something that made me step up my game. After eveything that she and Vega did to me at Circus Maximus, (the blood, the fire, the betrayal), I feel like I had to evolve. But at the same time, I feel like the fans began to take me a lot more seriously. They recognized that I wasn’t the young kid that I started out as. I had grown, and I had been through a damn war and made it out alive. As far as Tiffany goes…….let’s face it, there is not a person that she has managed that hasn’t been successful. Let’s look at the list here. Ego Express : Multi-time GCW Tag Champs, LWA Tag Champs, SSK is the Medallion of Whatchimacallit (I can never remember) holder, and I currently hold the LWA Championship. Davey Vega : Medallion of Bandanas holder, somebody whom I have NEVER beaten in an LWA ring, and soon faces Dingo for the NWA Missouri State Championship. Gary the Nightowl has a shot at my LWA Championship soon. Tiffany knows what she is doing out there. As much as she has put me through, I believe she IS the top manager in the mid-west.

7) Lets turn our focus to singles action. Looking back, Jeremy Wyatt had been the Kingpin and the 2008 MWR Wrestler of the year throughout the Midwest by beating top notch talent in Tyler Black, “The Future” Donovan Ruddick, Abu Colussus, Davey Richards and Jordan Lacey. How were you able to overcome the intensity of Wyatt where so many others have failed?

KC Karrington: You know, I’ve asked myself the same question. I don’t think that I would be holding the LWA Championship without the fans on my side. The night I won the title, the thing I remember most was the reaction that the fans gave me when I stepped through the curtain. That still gives me goosebumps. When Wyatt gave me repeated forearms to the jaw, chops to the chest, and those stiff kicks he can throw, hearing the fans rallying behind me gave me that will to fight on. I would love to say that I won that belt because I am better than Wyatt, but I’m not going to say that. Jeremy Wyatt may not be a fan favorite to put it lightly, but he is probably the best in the mid-west. I respect him more than almost anybody else in the locker room.

Karrington threw caution to the wind to become the LWA Champion by beating the man very few have had wins against in the past two years “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt. (Photo Credit Brian “Flair” Kelley)

8) On June 20th, 2009 you shocked wrestling fans by becoming the man to end Wyatt’ title reign. Your good friend Steven Kennedy came into the ring to congratulate you while the LWA locker room came ringside for a standing ovation. Explain to the fans in words what that moment was like.

KC Karrington: Accomplished. I felt like I had really proved all the doubters wrong. All the people when I first started telling me that I could never be anything because of my size…..I had always let that sit in the back of my head. I’ve been trying to prove them wrong for the last five years. Hearing the LWA fans in O’Fallon, seeing my family in the crowd, and having Kennedy, Shorty Biggs, Adam Rich, people I think of like brothers, in the ring with me to share that moment. I don’t think that that moment could have been any better.

9) One competitor who has quietly making waves is your former partner Kennedy. He is the current LWA Medallion of Brutality holder by defeating Gary J who was accompanied by Tiffany Lefane the same night that you won the LWA Title and has been impressive in the past few months including a big match Jeremy Wyatt, Brandon Espinosa & Dash Rando in a four-way no-DQ match. It may not be soon but how would you feel if Kennedy was granted a shot?

Kc Karringotn proved that he was for real when he defeated Wyatt in a rematch for the LWA title on July 25 in House Springs. . Karrington had to display a lot of heart and guts as the Rebel was even more nastier than ever. (Photo Credit Brian “Flair” Kelley)

KC Karrington: You know, that’s something that’s crossed my mind quite a bit. Kennedy and I joke all the time about who is the Shawn Michaels of our tag team and who is the Marty Jannetty. Luckily, we’ve never been inside of a barber shop. Seriously, though, I would give SSK a title shot any time and any where. He is ridiculously talented, and he and I think so much alike, it would probably be as close as I could get to wrestling myself.

10) Who do you feel in the coming months present your biggest challenge for the LWA title going forward?

KC Karrington: As far as people who have yet to make that big splash, Davey Vega is somebody that everybody in the mid-west should keep their eyes on. I have known him since he first started, and he is an all around great wrestler. Personality, psychology, general ring presence….he has it all. We’ve wrestled more times than I can remember. He and I have been in some wars, and have tried to literally destroy each other. Hell, he tried to set me on fire! Personal feelings aside though, getting in the ring with him always brings out the best in me, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come after my LWA Title in the near future. Mike Sydal is somebody that has come a long way in a short time. I’ve gotten to step into the ring with him in tag and singles matches, and he’s beyond talented. Brandon Aarons is another guy I’m very impressed with, and another guy that I have known since he first started training. Another person that takes pride in what he does, and I think he can make some major waves soon. Of course, the guys that have been in the game for a while are a threat and ready to strike. Kennedy, Dingo, Sterling. Any one of them coming after the championship would not surprise me. Unfortunately for me, they’re some of the best at what they do. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t looking forward to it.

KC Once again thank you for your being a part of the MWR exclusive 10 questions with the Champ. Good luck on defending your title in the future.

KC Karrington: Again, thank you very much for having me on MWR, and for your constant support

3XWrestling Presents Action-Packed Halloween Horror III Event
Iowa’s Top Wrestling Company Holds Premier Fall Showcase

DES MOINES, Iowa – After performing in front of a record crowd in September, Des Moines-based 3XWrestling (3XW) once again invades the Des Moines Social Club to hold Halloween Horror III. The stacked Oct. 16 event features three title matches and a battle royal, among many others.

In a first for 3XW, the main event of Halloween Horror III sees 3XW Heavyweight champion “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt, fresh off a victory over internationally-recognized wrestling star Al Snow, defend his championship against a challenger determined by a battle royal earlier in the evening. Never before has a 3XW Heavyweight champion had to defend his championship against the challenge of a same-night battle royal winner.

“I don’t care who I have to defend against in October – whether it’s Devin Carter, Jimmy Rockwell, Mark Sterling, Rory Fox, that punk Tyler Cook or even some fool from the crowd – I’ll beat down anyone who dares challenge me for my title!” said a confident Wyatt.

Heading into the Oct. 16 event, Wyatt, who is widely considered the best wrestler in the Midwest among wrestling fans, has defeated a who’s who of professional wrestling in 2009, including Al Snow and Ring of Honor stars Jerry Lynn, Tyler Black, Davey Richards and Sonjay Dutt. Wyatt has only lost a handful of times in 3XW in the past four years.

The 3XW Tag Team titles will also be defended as current champions The High Flyers (Mike Sydal and “The Unbreakable” Zach Thompson) battle Sexy and Smooth (A.J. Smooth and “The Canadian Sex Icon”Ryan Slade) in a highly-anticipated tag team attraction.

In a rematch two months in the making, “The Viking Warrior” Kraig Keesaman, the 3XW Pure Wrestling champion, puts his 14-month undefeated streak on the line against the challenge of former three-time Pure Wrestling champion Tyler Cook in what should be a classic hard-hitting battle.

Local powerhouse fan favorite Maddog McDowell will battle Mark Sterling, a vicious technical wrestling master, in singles competition.

Among those also competing on Oct. 16 are 3XW Cruiserweight champion Casanova, “Delicious” Devin Carter, “The Right Price” Aaron Masterson, “The Laotian Sensation” Ricky Kwong, “Torturous” Tony Sly, Brady A. Dezire, Rory Fox and more!

Doors open at 7 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. start time. The Des Moines Social Club is located at 1408 Locust St. in Des Moines.

Founded in 2005, 3XWrestling, a Des Moines-based organization, has performed in front of thousands of fans across Iowa and been featured on Iowa Public Radio and in publications including Juice and Cityview. 3XW events are held monthly in Des Moines.

3XW and its performers are also heavily involved with charity work. 3XW recently joined forces with Blockbuster Video and heavy metal band-on-the-rise Dark Mirror to hold a fundraiser event for local firefighters.

Last February, one-legged wrestling star Zach Gowen competed in 3XW and helped raise over $10,000 to help the family of a young man whose leg was amputated due to his battle with cancer. All proceeds from that event we’re given to the family to offset medical costs, with every wrestler performing on a volunteer basis.

Pro Wrestling Next Recap 5-14-2009 Plus Mark Sterling vs. Tyler Black This Friday in Davenport Iowa

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 3, 2009

PWN June 5th

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

Wrestling fans I have to apologize to you for the amount of work that I have not had a chance to do with MWR as of late. This recap will not be as thorough as I would like and my pictures are at my home computer and I am out of town for the moment so I can not add them, but with a PPV talent filled matches that PWN will have this Friday I felt the urge to share with you thoughts from the last show and encourage you to make the trip to Davenport.

I was thrilled to get an invite to Pro Wrestling Next located in Davenport, Iowa to check out a phenomenal card on May 15th. Some of the most talented wrestlers in the country work for this upstart promotion. Pro Wrestling Next recently took over Scott County Wrestling in a battle of the two promotions and this was one of their very first cards under the PWN banner.

Thanks to PWN I was able to get some great interviews that I will share with you to go along results from Craig at the PWN message board I am going to give you the recap from an exciting night of wrestling that saw ROH Superstars Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs, former WWE Star Zach Gowan. PWN also boast some of the great tag teams with The Phoenix Twins, Zero Gravity, Hybrids and The Northstar Express. Also on the card was top young talent like Juice Robinson, Krotch, Hunter Mathews, Shane Hollister and Arik Cannon. Main event match Danny Daniels and The Mississippi Madman for the PWN title all show that PWN is one of the premier promotions in the Midwest.

Before the show started, Mark Storm announced that Pro Wrestling NEXT was an official affiliate of the National Wrestling Alliance!

In the opening match of the evening, Zero Gravity and Samuray Del Sol def. Nick Brubaker and The Hybrids in an impressive high flying match. Del Sol looked especially impressive in his PWN debut.

Mark Storm came out to the ring and former SCW Senior Executive Jake Ryder followed shortly behind. Storm announced that he was keeping a majority of the SCW roster as part of his staff. Jake assumed that meant he still had a job too, but Storm cleared that right up when he officially fired Jake Ryder. Jake asked Storm what he was suppose to do. Storm said that Super Target was hiring. Security then escorted Ryder out of the building.

“The One Legged Wonder” Zach Gowan defeated Juice Robinson with a moonsault off the top rope.

Missouri Wrestling Revival caught up with fromer Scott County wrestler Marek Brave who was not happy with one Mark Strom.

Tyler Black and Marek Brave were set to square off, but Brave said that he didn’t agree to compete against Black and that he was going to do it his way and introduced his partner making it a 2-on-1 match, Ring of Honor star Jimmy Jacobs. Just as Jacobs and Brave were about to strike, Krotch’s music hit and we were treated to a surprise tag match.

Tyler Black and Krotch defeated Jimmy Jacobs and Marek Brave when Jacobs and Brave had an argument that led to Jacobs giving Brave a DDT and leaving him. Brave has certainly has his fair share of humility over the last few months. It’ll be interesting to see how he bounces back.

QC Champion Hunter Matthews came to the ring ready to wrestle Krotch in their scheduled QC Title Match, but since Krotch had already competed, he could not compete in the QC Title Match. When Matthews thought he didn’t have to defend, Mark Storm announced that he would have an opponent and it would be his longtime rival, Dewey Dawson.

Hunter Matthews defeated. Dewey Dawson with a top rope piledriver. This match was all over the place. Near the end, Dawson grabbed one of the merchandise tables full of DVDs, placed Matthews on the table over the DVDs and delivered a frog splash from the top rope to the outside!

Jordan McEntire defeated Knight Wagner and Mia Martinez

Shane Hollister defeated Arik Cannon to retain the NWA Iowa State Championship in a fantastic match that had the crowd on the edge of their seat

The Phoenix Twins and The Northstar Express went to a Double DQ as things got out of control. These two teams will meet again on June 5th and you, the fans can pick the stipulation!

Mississippi Madman prior to his war with Danny Daniels talks to Dubray Tallman from MWR.

In the main event, Danny Daniels defeated The Mississippi Madman to become the new PWN Champion when a masked man ran in and distracted Madman long enough for Daniels to put the former champ through a table and getting the pin.

On Friday, June 5th, PWN presents “The Next Show” and right here, fan have the opportunity to vote for what they want to see! Each link will lead you to a poll where you have the opportunity to vote for the option you like best! Vote as much as you’d like and keep check back as more polls will be opening soon! NWA Presents Dynamo Pro Wrestling recap 1-31-2009

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 23, 2009

dynamo-pro

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling returned to Kansas to start 2009 on January 30th for a good cause as proceeds were to go to “lil” Jimmie Bass to help him get a brand new heart. Former WWE Star Al Snow was to be in action with some of the best young talent in the Midwest so this show looked to have something for everyone.

Pierre Abernathy entered the ring with the unpopular Sadie Blaze by his side to take on the rising star Davey Vega. The crowd was really in Abernathy ear with chants like “Brush your teeth” just to name a few. Abernathy masterfully distracted the ref so that his manager was able to do damage from outside the ring. Abernathy controlled the match but Vega may have received the hit of the night when he kicked him so hard I was able almost feel the blow myself. Vega was able to get the pin fall much to the delight of the Dynamo fans.

A new guy to my knowledge was to wrestle next, Aaron Hawely, a young kid that was to take on the ever cocky Brandon Aarons. This match was between two guys that may lack the size but not the dedication in the weight room. Aarons was all business and went after Hawely with a vengeance. Aarons was dominating the match when out of nowhere Hawely used the ropes while holding onto Aarons head and turned it into reverse neck breaker

Power and speed would meet total meanness when Adam Rich and Trent Stone took on the Barrio Boys (Domino Rivera and Angel). Angel and Domino may come off as two thugs but you can not discount their knowledge as they work like a fine tune machine. The two constantly cut off the ring, not allowing Rich to tag his partner Stone. At one point, Rich had the advantage on Rivera but Rivera wisely maneuvered them into his corner where Angel was able to get the upper hand.

The glaring problem for the Barrio Boys would shine when Angel brought in boxing gloves to toy with Rich, it prompted the kids behind me to go nuts with “cheater” chants. Later Angel spanked Rich like a baby before snapping him into a suplex. It looked to be arrogance would cost them the match when Rich hit Angel with a kick, then Stone blasted him with a spear. When the ref Martin T went to send Rich back to his corner Rivera nailed Stone and sent Rich flying out of the ring. While Rivera was causing mass confusion Angel went for a low blow. Rivera quickly went back to his corner and Angel rolled up Stone for the win.

Kraig Kessman was to take on the flirt Mike Sydal. One may not like the way Sydal behaves but you can not deny the man’s ability. Kessman struggled early to get going on Sydal’s speed and unordinary attack.

The crowd was clearly on Kessman’s side when Sydal had Kessman in a Boston Crab encouraging Kessman to not give up. Sydal stayed on the offense for a long time but Kessman saw a light at the end of the tunnel when he planted one big boot and a frontward DDT for the win.

Billy McNeil and Shorty Biggs thrilled the fans with an exciting match that looked to go both ways at all times. On this night McNeil was able to get the victory against the ever popular Shorty Biggs.

During intermission Al Snow came to ring to sign autographs and take pictures. It seemed as if everyone wanted to get their picture taken with him and he looked to be more than happy to oblige.

When we returned from intermission I was ready for the first match in the triple main event. The LONRS (Mark Sterling and Darrien Sanders) took it upon themselves to walk among the fans, much to the displeasure of the fans. The LONRS were looking for revenge from their last encounter with the Ego Express (KC Karrington and Steven Kennedy) who was accompanied by their manager Tiffany LeFane. This was a knock down drag out chess match between two of the best.

Sterling took bragging rights on the best hit of the night when he threw Karrington into the corner with so much force it looked to derail the Express from winning the match at that point. Karrington showed that he was all heart and kept fighting. The LONRS stole the win when Sanders went for the pin and used the ropes while Sterling held onto his hands for extra leverage. The score was now one win for the LONRS, one win for the Ego Express.

The second main event was the NWA Kansas Champion #1 Brett Young defending his belt against the young Tyler Cook. Cook was so close last month and with OZZY playing I was sure we were about to have a new champion. Young had other plans and really showed why he was one of the premier wrestlers today. Young never really allowed Cook to get off the ground for longer than a few minutes.

One moment, Cook had pulled the turnbuckle cover off trying to hold onto dear life as Young worked him over. That would come to haunt the challenger because later in the match Young threw the turnbuckle cover at the ref. This blinded him long enough so that Young could throw Cook head first into the uncovered turnbuckle long enough for the champ to have retain the belt. Cook had proved to the Kansas fans that he has no desire to give up the NWA Kansas Championship anytime soon.

The MWR 2008 Wrestler of the Year Jeremy Wyatt was in the main event taking on the popular Al Snow. Wyatt had just came off big victories of Davey Richards and Tyler Black and looked to add the man the fans wanted to see to his list of victims. Al Snow came to the ring with his friend “Head”. The crowd chanted “We want head” while Snow talked to his mannequin friend in the corner to start the match. Then before they would lock up Snow ran the ropes and went back to the corner to talk to his “friend” again. This went on for a while and really seemed to get under Wyatt’s skin.

When the action got underway the two exchanged moves until Wyatt was able to deliver a clothesline that took Snow out of the ring. Wyatt threw Snow into the turnbuckle and attempted to use a chair but the ref intervened just in time. Wyatt took it back in the ring and “Wyatt Sucks” chants rang through the building. Wyatt leaned on the Snowman and punished him with powerful strikes. Snow was able to turn the momentum when he tossed Wyatt into the turnbuckle but the ref was their and was knocked out. Al called for the second ref Martin T to come in to make the count, but when he came into the ring it was too late.

Snow went for a strike on Wyatt but Wyatt shoved Martin T in the way to protect himself. With both refs out of the ring and Snow went to check on one of them, Wyatt brought in a chair but the other ref was getting up so he hit himself with the chair hoping the ref would disqualify Snow thinking that he had used the chair. Snow knows every trick in the book and before the ref was up he did the exact same thing causing the first ref to be confused on who the culprit was. The ref was asking the fans who had used the chair, Wyatt protested while Snow recovered to get his “friend” Head and use it as a weapon for the 1,2,3 much to the fans delight.

LWA Arena Report Jan. 3

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 20, 2009

By JJ

This was the second night of the LWA’s double shot weekend. There was a very nice attendance of 195. The fans were excited to see Mike Quackenbush who has wrestled through the world and is the current NWA junior world heavyweight champion. They were also looking forward to the main event with was a match that was sponsored by MWR as one of the best of the mid west match series. That match would feature Tyler Black a current ROH star wrestling Jeremy Wyatt the current and reigning LWA heavyweight champion.

Luke Roberts the LWA president made his way to the ring stating that he had someone that wanted to make an announcement. That person was none other than Mike Quackenbush. He stated that he wanted Evan Gelistico in a match due to the fact that Gelistico and Abernathy caused his match with Nick Tyson the prior evening to be thrown out. He wanted no interference to be guaranteed and that is when Commissioner Adam Raw stepped to the ring and assured him that he would make sure that that did not happen.

The opening match was a six way match featuring Dorian Victor, Pierre Abernathy, Adam Rich,  Shamus O’Flannery, Eric Allen, and Shorty Biggs. Dorian made his ring entrance still begging for money from the fans saying that the Bavarian Boy was sick and that he needed money to take care of him, seeing him begging was quite funny. As the match got under way you saw quite a few tags between the different competitors. Then it all broke down and you had wrestlers inside and outside the ring. At one point five of the six wrestlers were outside fighting, Shamus was left in the ring and he excited the crowd when he delivered a “Helo” a head over heel suicide dive taking out his five competitors. Chaos was all around the ring,  when Dorian saw a chance to strike and hit Shorty with a low blow and covered him for the win. I don’t remember who it was, but someone made off with Dorian’s cup of money.

The second match of the evening had XXX Jordan Lacey facing of with Mephisto. This was a pretty lopsided match with XXX in control of most of the match. The match was stopped by the ref as XXX was on top of Mephisto, smashing him with  brutal strikes to the head. XXX was dominating for the second night in a row by defeating his opponents with a knockout.

The fans were treated to a LWA rematch of “The Future” Donovan Ruddick and Mark Sterling. Before the match got started Mark took the mike and told Donovan that you told me the last time we wrestled that as soon as you won the LWA title that you would give me the first shoot, since you are the number one contender why don’t you put in on the line instead. Donovan agreed they shook hands, which was nice to see and the match was on. This was a very high impact match and it was also a see saw battle. Donovan must have done something wrong because when he picked Sterling up he grimaced in a lot of pain, with sheer guts and power Ruddick finished this one with a razors edge and a cover for the one, two, and three. Many of the LWA Management came out to escort the former champion out of the ring.

The next match was between two gentlemen that I had not seen wrestle before it was a match between Hunter Matthews and Shane Hollister. This match was very enjoyable.  It saw mat based wrestling, hard strikes, chain wrestling, and even some high flying. This match had a lot of near falls. Hunter won the match with a pile driver. Shane received a round of applause as he left the ring. After the match there was an intermission.

The second half of the night started with a tag title match between the champs the Ego Express and BabeWatch. The Egos had a very entertaining entrance with the belts strapped around the both of them. This was a back and forth match, with neither team letting the other team get much of an advantage. The Ego express was able to take the victory in this one to retain their titles. I sure this is not the last time we will see these to teams face off.

The next match of the evening saw Gary the Barn Owl face off with IWA-TX U30 champion Nick Tyson. This match saw the two men battle inside and outside the ring. At one point I thought Gary would be counted out, but he managed to make it back. I guess that was what he needed, they wrestled for a few more minutes and Gary pinned Nick to become the new IWA-TX U30 Champ.

The match prior to the main event saw Mike Quakenbush versus Evan Gelistico. This was a fast paced and hard hitting match. They both put all they had into it. At one point Quackenbush had Gelistico set up for a Quacken driver and Pierre showed up to distract him, but Raw chased him off. There was a little more action before Quackenbush set him up for a Quacken Driver and connected with it for the pin

The main event was just plain awesome, it was Tyler Black versus Jeremy Wyatt. This was a very fun match for wrestling fans. These two had a lot to prove to one another, and I think the accomplished it. Lots of near falls in this one. The end came when Tyler went for a flying cross body block from the second turnbuckle and missed. From there Wyatt rolled him up in a small package for the win and to retain his belt.

This was a good night of wrestling. Thanks go out to the wrestlers and the LWA.

Thank you to LWA.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 9, 2009

We would like to thank Lethal Wrestling Alliance, Jeremy Wyatt and Tyler Black their part in the Midwest dream match last Saturday night in O’Fallon IL. A great night of wrestling with a fun filled crowd proves that the wrestling in the Midwest is moving in the right direction in 2009.

For the LWA Champion Jeremy Wyatt 2009 started out the same as the year ended, as a friend of mine would say “the second verse was the same as the first”. Wyatt was triumphed over the Ring of Honor superstar Tyler Black in a match that showed why each man is considered two of the top rising stars in the sport. The match more than lived up to the expectations and I would not be surprised if this was the first of many encounters between Black and Wyatt.

To celebrate the first LWA double shot weekend, Missouri Wrestling Revival gave away two MWR T-shirts that was drawn out during intermission by LWA’S Paul Parker. Congratulations to Big Al and Mieisha Bell for being the lucky winners of the exclusive MWR T-Shirts.

Mieisha Bell, Brian "Flair" Kelley, "Big Al" Alan Jansen

Once again thank you to everyone at LWA for their hospitality, patience and friendship on January 3rd. We look to continue to support LWA and Pro Wrestling in the Midwest in the future.

Your next chance to win a MWR T-shirt is this weekend at High Voltage Wrestling in Granite City. We hope to see you there.

Direct from the MWR lost and Found- The rankings with the Northstar Express.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on December 31, 2008

This weekend at LWA the current #1 ranked wrestler in the MWR Revival Cup rankings as well as the 2008 Revival Cup Champion, Jeremy Wyatt will be taking on Tyler Black in the third installment of the MWR Best of the Midwest match.

The rankings have been popular not only to our fans, but the very talented wrestlers in the Midwest as well. During the holiday season, I was going through the MWR lost files and found some great material.

While we were in Council Bluffs, Iowa at Pro Wrestling Phoenix on October 25th for the second MWR Best of the Midwest match between the Northstar Express ( Darin Corbin and Ryan Cruz) attempting to defeat the LONRS ( Mark Sterling and Darrien Sanders) for the PWP Tag team titles.

I caught up with the Northstar Express and during the interview one of the members of the NSE had a little surprise on the rankings prior to the match. Ladies and gentleman, we give you the defending MWR Wrestling Cup Champions the Northstar Express.

The Northstar Express would go on to win the PWP titles. The victory would catapult the Express to the top of the #1 rankings. They would finish with the year as the 2008 MWR Revival Cup Champions.

Who will win the MWR Revival Cup in 2009?

Go on record at the MWR Message board to post your predication and come back next year to find out if you are right.

Don’t forget to join us in O’Fallon Illinois this Saturday. Come early on  sign up for a chance to win a FREE MWR t-shirt . For more information on the LWA and the MWR Midwest Best go to MWR Best of the Midwest match.

So you want more of the Northstar Express? They will return to PWP on January 17th in Council Bluffs Iowa in a rematch with the LONRS. The winner of the match will receive a chance to reclaim the Tag Team titles now held by Jaysin Strife and Vic Victory.

MWR Rankings Review

Posted by Admin on December 28, 2008

With the 2008 season of the Wrestling Revival Cup done and champions crowned, the end of the year brings the preliminary MWR 2009 Wrestling Revival Cup rankings!  The beginning of the season has witnessed the downturn in the economy, but the Midwest has responded by putting great wrestlers to work in front of loyal fans.  The turnouts at shows in November and December were strong, and many companies have reported that they are doing well financially at this point in time.  Take from this what you like, but it is my belief that the talent in the Midwest is stronger than it has been for a very long time, and promoters are realizing that they can take their time to put together great shows.

In the singles division there has been a lot of movement to start off the new season.  MWR started the 2009 season by giving a preliminary top 75.  Rounding out the rankings is Donnie Peppercricketat number 75.  Peppercricket’s profile in Iowa seems to be growing in 3XWrestling and Pro Wrestling Phoenix.  With a feud on the horizon with long time tag team partner Joey Daniels for PWP, look for Peppercricket’s name to be more recognizable to Midwest pro wrestling fans.

Dinn T Mooreis another man who is benefiting from exposure in Iowa.  He comes in at number 67 after making impressive appearances in Iowa.  Time will tell whether his tag team partnership with Brian Breaker as World League Wrestling Tag Team Champions will slow his progression in the singles rankings, but the fact still remains that he is an intimidating man in the ring with plenty of skill.  He could be the heavyweight champion in WLW or any other promotion, for that matter.

The New Midwest Wrestling Heavyweight Champion successfully defended his title over a top ranked opponent in Mississippi Madman recently.  Benz, coming in at number 48, has a lot going for him as he continues his climb up the MWR rankings.  NMW seems to be staying active over the holiday season when other promotions are not as busy,  and Benz could definitely reap the benefits of that exposure.  If I were to make a prediction about Benz, I would say that by mid-year he will easily be ranked in the top 20.  Maybe even closing in on the top ten.

At number 44, Jerry Lynn‘s star in the Midwest seems to be dimming.  It wasn’t that long ago that he finally dropped the All American Wrestling Heavyweight Title to Tyler Black.  If he continues to stay inactive, his rankings could suffer in the MWR coverage area.  That takes nothing away from his ability, however.  When competing, Lynn is always a serious threat to his opponent.

For the 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup, Silas Younghad one of the most impressive win-loss records.  Although primarily competing for All American Wrestling in the Chicago area, Young could become a force in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area if given the chance.  Currently ranked number 31, his year could depend on how well he does in his quest to become All American Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.

Right above Young at number 29 is my pick for 2009 Wrestling Revival Cup sleep, Kraig Keesaman.  Keesaman continues to grow more charismatic by the day, and his wins are slowly beginning to pass his losses.  As the dust settles in 3XWrestling championship scene and the newly christened NWA: Dynamo Pro promotion, Keesaman could emerge a force to be reckoned with.  I’d say the odds are in his favor.

Brandon Espinosa is the master of diversification.  If the man was a stock broker, he’d be on par with World Wrestling Entertainment’s John Bradshaw Layfield.  At number 26, Espinosa is active in numerous promotions throughout the MWR coverage area, picking up wins in many of them over the course of the last couple of months.  The question is whether he’ll take a shot at Lethal Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight Champion and MWR’s 2008 Wrestling Revival Cup Champion “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyattor give High Voltage Wrestling Heavyweight Champion and current number 2 in the MWR rankings “The Future” Donovan Ruddick a run for his money.  He is in line for shots at both, and could skyrocket to the top of the rankings with decisive victories over both at the beginning of this year.

As the New Breed Wrestling Alliance and Heritage Wrestling Coalition’s Heavyweight Champion, “Bloody” Harker Dirge is poised to make 2009 his year.  Dirge is ranked 17th in the preliminary rankings, and I don’t believe anyone doubts his ability to make it to the top ten by Spring.  An outside booking for another promotion or a high profile win in NBWA could be all it takes.

For my money, the biggest chance for rankings shake up is the January 3, 2008 MWR Midwest Best Series Match pitting 2008’s Wrestling Revival Cup Champion and current number one Jeremy Wyattagainst 2008’s MWR 100 number one, Tyler Blackunder the LWA banner.  Wyatt finished the year as the top wrestler in the MWR coverage area and is a favorite to win a second time with his current number one ranking.  Black is a national wrestling star and possibly the next top level Midwest wrestler to make it to TNA or WWE.  A win or a loss could spell major changes for both talented wrestlers, which could create a ripple effect in the MWR rankings.

Keep watching the rankings and giving your feedback!
