Missouri Wrestling Revival covers Total Nonstop Wrestling’s Lockdown weekend.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 25, 2010

Total Nonstop Wrestling returned to ST Louis with their PPV Lockdown on April 18th in ST Charles Family Arena with the highlight being the night before at the TNA Fan interaction.

I had attended the first St Louis’s TNA Lockdown and though I felt as if the fan interaction was worth it, the PPV had been a disappointment in my opinion. I must confess I enjoy attending independent wrestling over going too today’s “Big Two”.

The selling point for me was the fact that they were including a “Legends Main Event” in this Fan Interaction with three of the biggest stars to ever grace the sport Hulk Hogan, Sting and my personal favorite “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair at the end of the night with a bonus of having two of the most influential Managers in Pro Wrestling “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart and Bobby “The Brain” Hennan along with one of the greatest wrestlers to grace the sport Dory Funk JR. and “The Clawmaster” Baron Von Raschke.

Some great times was to be had throughout the weekend as we caught up with some old friends and met some new ones. If the TNA wrestlers were on a grading system for their treatment of the fans I would have to give them an impressive A+. Some could complain that the lines took a lot of time to get through but one of the big reasons was the wrestlers were so friendly and took the time to meet the fans. Making the experience that much more enjoyable.

When the time was up for “The Band” Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan and many of the fans had yet to get their autograph or picture they each let TNA know that they were not going to leave until everyone had received what they were promised.

Thanks to my friends at the St Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame I was asked to present Dory Funk Jr, Bobby Hennan and Baron Von Raschke along with my friend Nick Ridenour with their Hall of fame Plaques during the fan interaction. I was so pumped up about it I could barley calm down; in fact I am still hyped up about it four days later. Regardless it will be forever in my top ten moments of my life as latter I would also be a part giving my favorite wrestler of All-Time Ric Flair his plaque.

Words can’t give justice to my appreciation to Nick, Herb Simmons, Larry Matysik, Tony Costa webmaster Mitch Martsey, sports journalist Keith Schildroth, and  the rest of the crew at the ST Louis Hall of Fame for having me a part of this historic occasion.

Look for video of both the ST Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame and Pro Wrestling Illustrated in the near future at MWR.

If you would like to check out the ST Louis Hall of Fame your next chance will be on May 8th at the South Broadway Athletic Club. For more information on the ST Louis Hall of Fame check out their myspace here.

After we were done giving the ST Louis Hall of Fame plaques Jeff Ruoss from Pro Wrestling Illiustrated presented the Legends with plaques from everyone’s favorite wrestling publication.

The PPV Would be solid and most importantly a LOT of fun. During the evening Kurt Angle showed why he is in my mind the best wrestler since Ric Flair when he and Ken Anderson tore down the house. Team 3D was on fire and ST Louis fans proved that it is truly Flair country when he was asked to leave by the ref  prior to the AJ Styles – D’Angelo Dinero the fans chanted “We want Flair” chants. Jeff Hardy would show why he is one of the most fearless (or crazy) wrestlers to ever grace the sport during the main event giving Team Hogan a huge advantage over Team Flair.

My girlfriend Dubray had no clue who Rob Van Dam was on Friday evening but by Sunday she was into putting her hands behind her back as RVD’S Music was on chanting ROB-VAN-DAM proving just how over with the fans he is.

TNA would wisely give RVD the chance for the TNA Title the next night on Spike and he would go on to defeat AJ Styles for his first ever TNA World Championship. Some may argue that they gave away a PPV Match on free TV but my opinion is such that RVD can have a full year of PPV matches with just about anyone on the roster including a rematch with the very talented AJ Styles .This weekend and his win will hopefully be the direction that TNA is headed.

I would run into local wrestling talents Chris Havius, Shorty Biggs, Kiwi Jello and Dorian Victor . Local Promoters Herb Simmons and TNT Keny G was in the house while the legends made their appearance during the TNA Title match between Styles and Pope.

In this weekend blast you will see the pictures of the TNA After party hosted by Mike Gordon at Side Pockets in St Charles. Surprise guest were Ken Anderson, James Storm, Chris Sabin and Brian Kendrick. Anderson and Strom was their when I entered the building and was busy signing autographs and taking pictures with fans while being with their respective friends and family. Their patience and kindness with the fans made me fans of the two of them for life. Sabin and Kendrick came later and was just as polite. With a 12:00 closing time on Sunday and the TNA Stars less than 24 hours from having to be in Florida for TNA Impact that made their kindness that much more special.

Once again it was great hanging with old friends during the weekend like Drew and Gary, Chuck and Dave along with new friends Shawn and his girlfriend , Kyle and the Awesome Bomb Radio team just to name a few. A big thanks you to TNA’ and  Bob Ryder for his kindness as well.

I hope you enjoy this exclusive look at TNA Lockdown weekend at MWR.

Jeremy Borash and So Cal Val pump up the fans early in the morning.

Alex Shelly and Chris Sabin (The Motor City Machine Guns) enjoy a visit from a young fan.

Golden Circle: Metro Sexual Mania?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 24, 2010

By Greg Anthony

Wrestling is a tough business. We’ve got grown men throwing and slamming each other and Contrary to popular belief, it hurts. In addition, we’ve all got that “jock” mentality. Machismo reaching a boiling point a lot of times. With all that being said, Metro sexual Mania is still running wild in pro wrestling.

Here I am in a locker room with some of the toughest men I’ve ever known and I hear things like… “Do I look bloated?”, “Your abs look great”, “Does my ass look flat in these tights?”. Everyone has said or done something to that extent. Have you ever asked another man to rub baby oil on your back? Not acceptable at the gym but its ok in pro wrestling. Some of things I’ve seen and heard would make a great Saturday Night Live skit.

We all have friends outside the business. Being in Tennessee some of mine are good ole boys from the country. Things that are musts/requirements in wrestling seem very gay to the average male. Like highlighting your hair or the extensive man-scaping that goes on with a pro wrestler. Even tanning in a tanning bed is a little much for some men.

Once, back in the LAW in Dyersburg days, Christian Jacobs had a run in during the show. So CJ was dressed in a pair of jeans with no shirt and had oiled up. Waiting for his spot Chris O’Neal comes asks if he has time to run to Taco Bell with him? Cj agrees and hops in the car Chris. They get back and tell me they went to the drive thru. I can only imagine what the people working the window must have been thinking with two males, one shirtless and oiled up coming thru. The best part is that Chris was wearing a Picture Perfect t-shirt with his and CJ’s picture on the front. You can’t write stuff like that.

Is metro sexuality good or bad for wrestling? I can’t answer that myself. I think we are more a product of the environment that anything else. We are constantly under the microscope like super models. To be thin, tan or whatever magazine dream people think we should be thus creating this sometime insecurity about our appearance. I say be healthy but be you, I promise you can’t go wrong with that.. and when “The Golden Boy’ Greg Anthony makes a promise its as good as gold.

March 26th IWA Mid-South Photo Recap Sabu vs Prince Ali plus Ryan Phoenix vs Jaysin Strife.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 11, 2010

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

MWR fans a week prior to March 26 the real world was kicking me in the rear hard and I knew that I was going to be covering the High Voltage Wrestling show that Saturday but the weekend could not come soon enough. When my good friend Keny asked for me to ride with him to IWA Mid-south in Bellevue Illinois on that Friday there was no way I was going to be able to get off work on time to get to ST Louis to ride with him, so I asked for a quick day off from the boss to get away so I wouldn’t lose my job. The trip was well worth it.

Six hours on the road there I really had no clue who was on the card other than Kahagas, The Hooligans and Ryan Phoenix who I have been dying to see and ECW original Sabu. When I got their I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of my favorites Jaysin Strife would be in action as well as my friend Donnie Peppercricket.

Not only would I get to see Phoenix for the first time another wrestler who has been on my checklist to see would be in action with Prince Ali taking on Sabu. This would also be my first chance to check out Nick Cage, Sal Thomaselli and Devon Moore. The Midwest sweetheart Santana G took on her rival Jessika Haze while Neil Diamond Cutter and Matt Cage tore each other apart.

I would like to thank Keny for the offer to check out this exciting show and IWA-Mid South for their hospitality.

“The Manager of Champions” Travis Cook looks to lead Donovan Ruddick to WWE or TNA!!

Could Donovan Ruddick and Travis Cook be the new face of Pro Wrestling? (Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat)

Last night Missouri Wrestling Revival was on hand at MMWA-SICW to honor them with the 2009 MWR Promotion of the Year Plaque. As big of a story as that was it would be the ramifications in the MMWA-SICW title match between the Champion Dave Vaughn and the former Champion Phil E Blunt that would steal the headlines.

Blunt was DQ’d and his manager Travis Cook jumped into the ring to double team Vaughn. Thankfully Donovan Ruddick would enter the ring to make the save….or so it would seem. After holding back Travis Cook and Blunt , Ruddick took the belt from them then laid out Vaughn!!!

On the night that was to be a celebration for MMWA-SICW it would Travis Cook who would be having the most fun. Cook now has one of the most respected and feared wrestlers in the Midwest today “The Future” Donovan Ruddick in his stable “The Connection”.

TNA and WWE in 2010 will have showcased to the world PPV’s in St Louis with WWE’S Elimination Chamber and this month’s TNA Lockdown, the show me state is now a hotbed for Pro Wrestling. Add on the fact that ST Louis Talent Randy Orton and Evan Bourne have became major players it is without a doubt that the both companies will be wanting to catch the next big star in the Midwest.

One can not take away the power and reputation that “The Manager of Champions” Travis Cook will not have a say in who will be given the opportunity to be the next superstar in Pro Wrestling Today.

In an interesting twist Cook did not make any friends on this evening when he showed his clout in Ron Powers match as he was set to take on Billy Diamond and Bobby D in a handicap match. Before the match could begin Cook demanded that Powers show Ed Monihan (from the state Athletic Commission) a current Missouri Wrestling license. Powers licenses were infact not up to date therefore Powers was unable to compete. Words were exchanged between the two with Powers chasing Cook to the back. Powers returned to the ring to let Cook and the fans to know that Illinois isn’t a commission state so he WILL be at MMWA-SICW when they return in East Carondolet, IL next Saturday for the battle royal.

Golden Circle: Give me Embry Any Day

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 3, 2010

By Greg Anthony

A lot of the boys are working harder than ever to be in the kind of shape that might land them a contract. A word most of them use a lot is “genetics”. Some say they can’t get those John Morrison abs or work, work, work but can’t seem to add the muscle they want or need. Like BT, and most of the boys in the business, we are first and foremost fans. And as a fan if you give me a choice between a 275 pound meathead that can’t tell me who Lou Thesz is or someone less physically gifted but can work circles around 99.9%. Then give me the worker.

I’m not saying that we should all be fat slobs and not try to be in the best athletic shape we can be in. I’m saying overlooking people’s ability in any sport or entertainment because they don’t meet a specific visual criterion is not good business. Every wrestler seems to be under the same microscope as women in the entertainment industry. If you have a women with every musically talent in the world but if she’s 300 pounds then all of sudden she’s not suitable for the industry. As it goes for wrestling in this day and age.

Eric Embry was 5’10, around 225. He didn’t have the physique of an Ultimate Warrior or Lex Luger. Even though I haven’t had the pleasure of working with any of these men, if you told me I to pick one of these men to work for 6 months straight… give me Embry any day. Of course that’s purely from a working perspective. I’d probably earn more money with Warrior but also some concussions.

My theory has changed a lot in the last year or so. I see some guys getting on the gas, so they can be as big as humanely possible. They want to be COMESTICALLY in the greatest shape of their lives. They aren’t working out to acheive a size, shape or health that will make them better workers. The steroid issue has fizzled out some but is still a touchy subject. I’ve never took steroids, obviously, but I have been tempted. I’ld love to wrestle a match when I’m 70, like Thesz. By that time the next oldest person in the business would be like 28. On the bright side it might be my grandson.

Dubi meets the MECW Fans- Shawn Santel, Bayou Outlaws, Gabriel Brimstone and Jeremy Robb

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 1, 2010

By Dubray Tallman

Dubray Tallman back once again with Dubi meets the fans, this time we are back with our friends at MECW in WoodRiver Illinois. MECW often calls their fans “family” and it truly is a wonderful group of people that comes out to the Knights of Columbus hall for some fun wrestling action.

Brian and I have had the pleasure to be invited by MECW often in the past year that I have made some great friends including the famous Fuzzy Hat club.

“The Kid” Evan Money (Photo Credit Brian “Flair” Kelley)

On this night fan favorite Evan Money would be the throwing out the MWR T-shirt to a lucky fan in the stands prior to his match and I was off hanging with some cool people.

Their was one man in on this night that was the talk of the hall and that was Shawn Santel who I was told was coming back home to MECW. Before I even got the chance to ask if anyone wanted to be apart of DUBI meets the MECW Fans, people were coming up wanting to be a part of it and I found out quickly that many had came out to see Shawn Santel.

First up in the Shawn Santel fan club was a huge group of people Zach Lafferty, Brandon Rady, Sheryl Baumeister, Jacob Ford and Harry Baumeister from Bethalto Illinois

As Shawn hung out with his fans I caught up with a little cutie Jolene from Hartford, Illinois who enjoyed the Bayou Outlaws of Maddog McDowell and Aaron Masterson.

The Outlaws are one of the nicest guys in the sport and was more than happy to take the picture with her.

Then I went back to Shawn Santel and got his picture taken with Junior Loeffen and then with Zach Leverett.

MECW Superfan Rebecca Hacker and Gabriel Brimstone.(Photo Credit Brian “Flair” Kelley)

MECW Superfan Rebecca Hacker asked if she could have her picture with Gabriel Brimstone and then I asked my fellow fuzzy hat member Panther if he would take his picture with me.

Last but not least another superfan Annie who was telling us that she had purchased an autograph picture of referee Jeremy Robb so I ask Annie she would like have her picture taken with Jeremy, making him the first ever ref in the Dubi meets the fans. Brian and a few wrestlers were laughing that Jeremy had already sold more pictures this year than Huge in Japans Jimmy Rockwell.

As always it was like a big party at MECW where everyone is your friend.
