ST. Louis Anarchy Delivers on the First Night of a Double Shot

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 15, 2014

 photo sla_zps3352c8cb.jpg

By David J. McCutcheon

The gloves are off. St. Louis Anarchy has decided to take the wrecking ball and break down the barriers that define the local wrestling scene. By incorporating top indy stars that have become St. Louis transplants for years, such as Davey Richards and Kyle O’Reilly, Anarchy has become a premiere promotion in the Midwest territory. Show runner Pierre Abernathy and Co. have taken their dedication to putting St. Louis on the National map one step further in 2014, bringing in the likes of Roderick Strong and one half of the Young Bucks, Nick Jackson, to their two-night Gateway to Anarchy 2014 celebration.

The card is subject to change, and boy, did it ever. Injuries and commitments to TNA took away the likes of the aforementioned Richards, Matt Jackson, and Eddie Edwards in what would have been his St. Louis Anarchy debut. The bookers at Anarchy did not allow such travesties to have a lasting effect on their product, bringing in Strong and Dragon Gate USA Open the Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano to fill their shoes. The opening show was one of Anarchy’s strongest yet, even without mainstays such as ACH and Richards on the card. This is a testament to the depth of Anarchy’s roster, one of the finest in all of the country.

JoJo Bravo d. Evan Gelistico via pinfall

After suffering a devastating loss to the strongman Michael Elgin his last go ‘round, JoJo Bravo came out swinging against the former St. Louis Anarchy champion, Evan Gelistico. It was all fun and games in the squared circle until Gelistico grounded the sumo sensation with a series of submission holds. Once Bravo broke free, he slammed a Samurai Driver out of a series of reversals for a decisive upset victory.

Brandon Espinosa d. Bolt Brady via pinfall

Everything gets misinterpreted once Brandon Espinosa gets in a St. Louis Anarchy ring. The St. Louis standout has made passes at the competition since his debut, and uses this tactic to get the upper hand in most contests. These lewd, flashy tactics—including a post-match celebratory butt-pinch—managed to unsettle the faster-than-lightning Bolt Brady, taking him out of his game for a pinfall victory with the frog splash.

The Hooligans d. Dan Walsh and Jeremy Wyatt (with Greg Jovi) via pinfall

Darren Dean, the original partner of Jeremy Wyatt, could not make it. Wyatt’s urging of a mystery partner to come out from the back opened up the perfect ambush for Dan Walsh from the other direction, marking his return to Anarchy after cutting a scathing interview on the company months ago. The Hooligans cleaned house before Walsh and Wyatt took control of Mason Cutter, isolating him from

his brother. Things boiled over once the tag was made, and it was the Hooligans who removed Walsh from the equation before taking down Wyatt with a sunset flip.

Darin Corbin d. Angelus Layne via pinfall

Once former St. Louis Anarchy champion Darin Corbin injured Angelus Layne at a previous Anarchy event while aiming for her partner, Brandon Espinosa, Layne has been salivating at the opportunity to knock the morality crusader Corbin down a peg. Many cheap shots and low blows were given throughout the bout, the final one coming at the foot of Corbin, leading to a devastating cutter to end the match. While she came up short, Layne was one of the night’s standouts in her breakout performance, earning the respect of the fans with her profane silver tongue and never-say-die attitude.

Arik Cannon d. Ricky Starks via pinfall

The charismatic Ricky Starks tried to open the contest by belittling the veteran Arik Cannon’s penchant for beer. He’d soon have a face full of it after a brawl to the outside, with Cannon using his alcoholic mist to blind the eyes of the pretty boy Starks. After a bout filled with submission holds, it was the brainbuster that inevitably ended the night for Starks, a final measure to cease his yapping.

Roderick Strong d. St. Louis Anarchy Champion Gary Jay (with Dorian Victor) via pinfall (Non-Title)

Gary Jay’s lackadaisical approach to the ring in his non-title match against one of the biggest names in independent professional wrestling, Roderick Strong, most certainly hurt him in the long run of this high-profile match. With no title on the line, Jay was arrogant and slow to get back into the ring, telling the crowd he would “take [his] time” to dictate the pace. A master of the squared circle, Strong didn’t hesitate to give Jay a rude awakening from a daydream into a nightmare with a series of welt-wailing chops that fans all the way under the Arch could hear. Jay’s fighting spirit picked up but a moment too late, as the Strongbuster and a harsh boot ended the Champion’s night. Licking his wounds, Jay retreated with title in tow, while Strong looked as his name indicates.

Jordan Lacey (with Greg Jovi) d. Alex the Big Owl (with Jacob Dangle) and Alex Castle via pinfall

Tempers ran hot in the three-way dance that featured a recently-betrayed Alex the Big Owl. At the previous Anarchy event, Jordan Lacey turned on his tag team partner to align himself with Gary Jay’s BOSS faction. The Big Owl was hot and ready to tar and feather Lacey. Alex Castle was inadvertently double-teamed by the duo before being pinned by Lacey. Right as the Big Owl set his sights on Lacey, his own manager, the Australian Jacob Dangle, hit him with a low blow to clip Alex’s wings in the fight… an

elevated DDT later and it was all over. The Big Owl has seemingly lost all of his friends after these events.

Danny Cannon d. Zakk Sawyers via pinfall

Danny Cannon came out with the energy of a pack of track runners rolling off of energy drinks, kicking the turnbuckles and running around the ring. This was certainly an indication of how this match would begin and most definitely end, as the two young guns took Anarchy by storm with an inspiration offensive assault that included a pair of suicide dives and other aerial shenanigans. Cannon ended the fight with an utterly brutal double stomp from the turnbuckle to the head of Sawyers. The duo certainly surprised many in attendance, as several fans gave a standing ovation once the dust had settled.

Kyle O’Reilly d. Christian Rose via submission

The two popular competitors came out on the eve of Kyle O’Reilly’s 2-out-of-3 falls title match against Gary Jay. All was going well for O’Reilly, as this physical contest was bearing no severe damage to his extremities, despite the hard-hitting Rose being his competition. A back-and-forth contest ended with the Arm-ageddon, O’Reilly’s patented cross-armbreaker, and all seemed well… until Gary Jay and his BOSS minions surrounded the ring, ready to pounce O’Reilly and Rose. Just as they were about to enter, Rose betrayed the man who made him tap, as Jay’s cronies unloaded on O’Reilly for several minutes. Leaving the challenger in a heap, BOSS fled as Jay laughed, knowing the damage was done to O’Reilly the day before the fight of his life.

More Shebang for Your Buck (Nick Jackson & Johnny Gargano) d. The Sex Bob-ombs (Mat Fitchett & Davey Vega) via pinfall

Johnny Gargano is no rookie when it comes to St. Louis Anarchy, so Nick Jackson recruited his help in place of his ailing brother. The competition was tough in Anarchy hero Davey Vega and fan-favorite Mat Fitchett. Coordination between Gargano and Jackson was not as smooth as the two would have liked in the early goings, with Jackson directing Gargano around the ring to where his brother would instinctually be. These few precious seconds cost the new duo, as the Sex Bob-ombs took advantage of every opportunity of miscommunication. A series of chain-superkicks left everyone unconscious on the mat near the end, but Gargano and “Indy Taker” Jackson carved up Fitchett with springboard spiked Tombstone.

The night was a huge success for Anarchy, breaking the attendance records with 300 people while marking the debut of a handful of new talent.

Gary Jay pulls out all the stops at the 2013 St Louis Anarchy Circus Maximus against Adam Raw in a 10,000 Thumbtacks match main event !!

One of pro wrestling’s respected tournaments returns in 2013 when the Ted Petty Invitational tournament begins on Friday, September 13, 2013. The great history of the tournament has seen superstars such as Chris Hero, Ace Steel, B.J. Whitmer, Danny Daniels, A.J. With the names of the men that are set to compete in the 2013 TPI tournament there is no doubt that this years winner will go down in history books as one of the best in todays’ sport.

Already set to compete are

1. Drake Younger 2. Jack Thriller 3. Eddie Kingston 4. B-Boy 5. Davey Richards 6. Kyle O’Riley 7. IWA-MS Light Heavyweight Champion Devon Moore 8. Roderick Strong 9. Andrew Everett 10. The promoters at IWA Mid-South Wrestling announced on their Facebook page that the 24th participant would be chosen by you the fans and fellow wrestlers support. One man that is deserving is the man that many claim to be the best kept secret in the wrestling today, Gary Jay.

Gay Jay can be seen wrestling around the country for the land of Anarchy in Texas and St Louis respectfully. He has made an impact at Metro Pro Wrestling in Kansas City, Pro Wrestling Epic in Illinois and AIW.

Adam Raw brutalizes Gary Jay as the two went to a classic in 2013.

Hard working and very entertaining Gary Jay puts his body on the line each and every match for you the fans. It is now time for you to take the time to go to the IWA Mid-South Facebook page and let your voice be heard. Be sure to tell them Gary Jay and WHY he is deserving of being in the tournament.

 photo IMG_3579_zps72f38273.jpg

When it was all said and done Gary Jay was bruised, battered and bloodied but was able to defeat the powerhouse Adam Raw.

Many of the fans and his fellow peers have been quick to come to his support. Straight from the office of IWA MID-SOUTH comes the announcement of what they are looking for “ The guy I hear the most about (OR GIRL) between now and August 14th will be the 24th participant in this years 2013 Ted Petty Invitational… but this ain’t American Idol! Don’t make a fool of yourself! If you ain’t got the goods, don’t have people push for ya!

Let’s take a look at some of men and women that have come to forefront to support Gary Jay in this high honor of being named as a competitor in the 2013 TPI.

Show your support by going to the IWA Mid South Wrestling Facebook.

Dingo Machete I as a former IWA MIDSOUTH CHAMPION whole heartedly endorse Gary Jay for this year’s TPI.

Jonathan Gresham Gary Jay would be a great addition in my opinion.

Joshua Neal Montgomery Gary Jay is consistently one of the best workers on any card he is booked at all over the country.

Kz Chif Gay Jay is a best who can do any style and can go with anyone.

Chris Eston Gary Jay is a great performer, seen him many times and can honestly say I have never seen a bad match from him, always entertaining!!

Phineas Bartleby Crackers Gary Jay is one of the hardest working guys on the indy scene. Great wrestler, a gifted bad guy. Easy to hate because he’s so damn good at what he does.

Alan Anderson Gary Jay is the total package…he can wrestle as well as work the mic and the crowd. I know if I’m going to a wrestling event and Gary Jay is on the card, I know I’ll at least be seeing one great match. Gary Jay never fails to deliver.

Mike Marnin Gary Jay is one of the hardest hitting and most entertaining guys I’ve seen in the ring! You’d be making a huge mistake if you didn’t put him on this TPI!

Pierre Abernathy – Gary Jay is not just someone who would be great in this amazing weekend of wrestling he is someone who would be a asset to the IWA show as a whole going forward. I book Saint Louis Anarchy and Gary is someone who always goes above and beyond for our fans and he does that everywhere he goes. Its time he gets the chances that others have gotten and he gets to show that even though he is small he is a great worker.

David J. McCutcheon Gary Jay, by far. He was lawn-darted into a wall, for Christ’s sake. The thud! Ow! Give him a break before he breaks something.

Billy McNeil Gotta echo what some others have suggested already, Gary Jay. More people need to be exposed to what that guy has to offer. His dedication to putting on the most memorable and entertaining performance of any given night is astounding.

John Meyer please put gary j in the tpi he’s a hard hitting guy and he loves thumb tack matches and anything goes matches put him in a spot thank u.

Andy Dalton I had the pleasure of wrestling Gary Jay in Dallas Texas a few years back…and have followed him (and the Sub Squad all together) since. Garys creative, hard hitting, and an absolute pleasure to watch. Great talent. Gary Jay for the TPI.

Aaron Roy Gary Jay Chops will make you bleed..

Jonathan Culver -Gary Jay. There is little doubt in my mind he will all but kill himself to make this show fantastic.

David Cox Gary J is easily one of the best “unknowns” out there, but he is also one of the nicest and most poliite persons I’ve ever met. The fact that on the few times, I’ve been lucky enough to share a car with him, he always got his trash out and threw it away. Little thing, shows his character. Too me, that’s the most important thing.

Ryan Masters I’ve known Gary Jay since I was 16 (I’m 22 now) and I’ve met a lot of independent wrestlers since then. Out of all the amazing and dedicated workers, Gary stands out not only in the ring but in a way not everyone may notice. I met Gary by working for the company he wrestled for. I helped with the ring set up, ect. To give credit where it’s due, Gary wasn’t alone but he was on a VERY exclusive list of guys who helped put the ring up and help take it down EVERY night. I’ve seen Gary Jay wrestle an hour long war and still stay up until 1am getting the ring where it goes. It wasn’t his ring and he didn’t get paid extra. He was already a main eventer in the company. He did it for one reason and that was because he wanted to. He probably still does it to this day. He cares so much about what he does. The level he’s on is irrelevant because he puts on main event matches no matter where he’s at or who he’s against. I’ve seen Gary play the biggest face in the company, drawing fans with his name, to being the biggest heel in the company. I know what he’s capable of and so do a lot of people at this point. His name is growing and he deserves this spot.

Show your support by going to the IWA Mid South Wrestling Facebook here.

22) F1rst Family (Arik Cannon and Darin Corbin)

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 28, 2011

Photobucket

Arik Cannon is a one man show but teamed with the one and only Darin Corbin they are a threat to any tag team titles, at any time. This teams downfall in the countdown is the sporadic amount that they team in one area . Promoters love them cause they know they can plug them in at any time during a show and get a great match. On the other hand the champions fear them for they know the F1rst Family is for real and a threat to their title.

One wrestler described them perfectly “ A very good team, the trickery of Corbin, and the hard hitting Cannon make them a force to be reckon with for sure. They are one of the more experienced teams in the midwest and they always bring their “A” game.”

Good luck to Midwest stars Mike Sydal and Kyle O’Reilly at Chikara’s Young Lions Cup.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 24, 2010

Missouri Wrestling Revival would like to send out the support to two wrestlers who have made waves in the Midwest recently in the 2010 Chikara’s annual Young Lions Cup tournament on August 28th.

Mike Sydal is one of the most loved wrestlers in the Midwest with fans clamoring to know what he is up to and when he will be back in the area. In 2009 he won the PWI Rookie of the Year, with that said it is not a given that this young up and comer can get by the lesser known but just as dangerous Keita Yano in round number one . Yano will look to ground the high flying Sydal and move forward in this prestigies tournament.

The other Midwest star is Vancouver Canadian star Kyle O’Reilly has had extensive runs in the Midwest including nearly taking home the NWA Missouri Championship in May from Davey Vega at NWA Dynamo. The two battled in and out of the building in a war between two of the best young talents today. O’Reilly will meet Adam Cole in round number one, Cole is a man who O’Reilly has been in battle with before but the stakes will be much higher as each of them looked to make a name for themselves.

Prior Chikara’s Young Lions Cup tournament winners include Midwest stars Arik Cannon and Chuck Taylor we send out the best wishes to these two young warriors as they look to bring the cup to the Midwest.

From the office of Chikara

The last weekend in August will see 24 relative rookies converge on Reading, Pennsylvania all competing for their chance to become Young Lions Cup champion! Pete Sakaris and Brandon Brown win the “Who’s the Superstar in the picture contest”

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 7, 2010

We would like to congratulate MWR readers Pete Sakaris from Nebraska and Brandon Brown from Missouri for answering the “Who’s the Superstar in the picture contest”.

The First question was who in the picture is the son of a former WWE Hall of Famer?

That none other was the son of WWE Hall of Famer Ted Dibiase, Mike Dibiase. Mike’s Brother Ted  is currently a WWE Superstar.

Brandon will receive an autograph 8×10 of Mike’s dad Ted Dibiase.

Ted Dibiase

Before Ted became a household name he put himself up against some of the best in the world right here in the Midwest. Dibiase would capture the NWA Missouri Championship twice in ST Louis, Mo.

Dibiase defeated Dick Slater on August 12, 1977 and would earn his second reign on November 21, 1981 against Ken Patera.

Dibiase would go onto to be one of the most hated/loved wrestlers in this generation as the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. Pro Wrestling Illustrated would name Ted Dibiase #32 in 2003 in the PWI Years.

The current NWA Missouri Champion is Davey Vega who defeated Dingo in Glen Carbon Illinois last year on October 16th.

The second question was who was the former NWA Central States Champion in this photo?

Pete answered correctly when he named Derek Stone who was on the top nailing Mike Dibiase with the ten punch. Derek Stone became the NWA Central States Champion by defeating Michael Barry, Griz and Gary Jackson in Coffeyville, KS on November 16. 2002

Fun fact: both Mike Dibiase SR and his son Ted would also rein as two time NWA Central States Champion. Mike Sr defeated the Spoiler and The Viking while the future Million Dollar Man pinned Bob Slaughter and “Bulldog “Bob Brown.

The current NWA Central States Champion is the 2009 Missouri Wrestling Revival Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling. Sterling defeated Michael Strider to become the NWA Central States Champion in 2009.

Pete will be receiving the must have collectable the Mark Sterling MWR Trading Card , which is number two in the set that celebrates the hard working men and women in the Midwest wrestling today.

This picture was taken at CSW in Lawrence Kansas in a three way match between Derek Stone, Mike Dibiase and Mason Hunter. Special thanks goes out to my friend Retro Rick for having information up about this show so I could find some information about it.

I would like to thank everyone for partaking in this contest. Look for exciting information coming from Missouri Wrestling Revival. In the future we have several superstars that will be announced into the MWR Trading Card set, we have some exciting fun promotions in works with our friends at High Voltage Wrestling, Independent Hardcore Wrestling and one with MECW in December that I am thrilled about. Keep checking MWR for all these great announcements

Pro Wrestling Phoenix WARGAMES May 22 Photo Recap

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 6, 2010

I am about to share with you a photo recap of Pro Wrestling Phoenix’s May card that was headlined by a 58 minute War Games Cage match between the Murder Militia and PWP Fan favorites.

Earlier in the night was a hard hitting ladder match between Jimmy Rockwell, Zac James and the powerful David Clark. Sir Bradley Charles was kind enough to wear a MWR Shirt to ring to throw to one lucky PWP Fan while sending Stephen Saint out of PWP just as fast as it took him to take off his shirt.

Fans also got to see the return of the 2008 MWR Tag team of the Year the Northstar Express take on the ultra flamboyant The Beautiful Bodies while PWP Legend Hype Gotti return to take on PWP Fan favorite Arik Cannon.

It was great to see my good friend and PWP Photographer Gary Giaffoglione while being able to see the hard work that the fine people at PWP did pay off by having a red hot crowd to witness a great night of wrestling.

I would like to thank Pro Wrestling Phoenix for allowing MWR to be a part of the show and do not forget this Saturday there is only one place to be at in Council Bluffs, as PWP Returns for this weekend .

Till then let’s enjoy a photo recap from last months exciting show.

Here’s to five more years of PWP and don’t forget June 12, 2010 is the next event,

PWP fans! What a phenomenal evening the 5th Anniversary Spectacular turned out to be! We start the next chapter of PWP on June 12, 2010! PWP Management wants to get back to the basics of athletic competition and sportsman-like conduct! For that reason, we have signed the following main event for June 12th:

PWP Heavyweight Championship Match:
“Babyface” Tony Cortez © Vs. Jaysin Strife

These two men have been on both sides of the fence in PWP’s five-year history and they were both victorious last month in the Wargames Cage. Strife has not received a rematch ever since he lost the PWP Title last November. Cortez will be looking to prove that he is the best PWP has to offer. This will be one for the ages!

PWP Tag Team Championship Match:
#1 Brett Young & Joey Daniels © Vs. Chris Havius & Donnie Peppercricket

Havius & Peppercricket have been demanding another Tag Team Title shot for months and after their victory in May, PWP officials have granted it to them. Brett Young took Joey Daniels under his wing many months ago and this is their chance to show the fans what Young has taught and what Joey has learned. You can bet there will still be hard feelings from last month as well!

“The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt will be at the armory on June 12th. What will his mood be after being tied to the ropes and forced to watch his team lose from only feet away?

In May, “The Passion” Zac James won a shot at any PWP title, redeemable at any time. Will he cash in his shot in June? Or will he bide his time?

Sir Bradley Charles set a record in PWP, and then immediately broke his own record when he beat Stephen Saint in about 20 seconds, then beat him again in an immediate rematch in about 15 seconds! He will be in action June 12th!

Will Jayden Draigo be able to even show his face in PWP after being destroyed by all five members of Team PWP in the Wargames match? Be there June 12th to find out!

Also in action: Abu Colossus, Jimmy Rockwell, David Clark, Matty Starr, Preston Maxwell, Supafli, The Beautiful Bodies & more!
