It’s with heavy heart this morning that I come to each of you and give you the news that my good friend Larry Matysik has lost the battle. As many know his health has been declining over the past several year. I ask that you keep his wife Pat and Daughter Kelly in your thoughts and prayers as the next few days will be hard for them. I will continue to update you on the arrangements when they are available.
It is so hard to find the words to express my gratitude and respect for the man known as Larry Matysik. I will not lie, I did not have the privilege to grow up listening to Matysik call the Wrestling at the Chase matches as the part in Missouri I grew up I never got any of the Chase programing, I remember the first time that I met him like it was yesterday, he was a special guest of TNT Keny G’s High Risk Wrestling in Granite City. He was only there to meet the fans and during that evening he smiled, shook hands, signed autographs and took pictures with every fan and wrestler that asked. I would be around him for over 100 times in the past 10 years and let me tell you, I never once seen him be disrespectful to anybody.
There is no doubt that Larry Matysik is highly underrated in the wrestling world as one of the All –Time Greats . He worked with NWA President and Wrestling at the Chase Promoter Sam Muchnick as well as WWE Promoter Vince McMahon. He is the author of four books every wrestling fan should own, Wrestling at the Chase: The inside Story of Sam Muchnick, 50 Greatest Pro Wrestlers of All-time, Drawing Heat the Hard Way and Brody The Triumph and Tragedy with his widow, Barbara Goodish. The past several years he has been very instrumental in Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling (SICW) , one of the most successful independent promotions in the country.
I could go on and on but I would like to hammer home the type of person he was. Thanks to my friendship with Promoter Herb Simmons I would become personal friends with the man I will now refer as Larry. My fiancée Dubray Tallman always looked forward to getting a hug, a kiss and photo with him when she attended an event. He was always supportive of Missouri Wrestling Revival, offering up his advice on writing and sharing his views and history on wrestling. When I asked him to please write in my yearbook, he did not hesitate to do so. Back in the day he would send me booking sheets for SICW to help us keep up with the shows and often gave reasons of why the matches were happening. The conversations were so educational each and every time. I remember receiving a call from Larry when my father died with him sending his condolences as well as him asking several times afterwards how I was doing.
We presented Larry with the 2010 Missouri Wrestling Revival Lifetime Award, an obvious choice.
We were so thankful to have Larry in our first series of the MWR Trading card set and with Herb’s blessing we had Larry Matysik day at SICW on July 16th in 2013. Personally, I only have a few regrets in my short time working in wrestling but I wished I would have done commentary with Larry on a match, an honor one of my best friends and the voice of SICW wrestling Drew Abbenhaus enjoyed many times. It was a relief to be around a legend that was not bitter towards the sport of wrestling or the fans. Was he a fan of today’s wrestling? I can’t say that, but I can say that he always appreciated every wrestling fan young and old. He took time to work with aspiring wrestlers looking to become better. He gave to all that he came in contact with.
Today the wrestling world lost one of the good guys. He was a legendary Announcer, a great writer and so much more.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Larry’s family and friends.
Thank you Larry for the memories, we loved you.
I will leave you on a positive note of a short video we did at SICW years ago with Larry, my fiancée Dubray and Herb Simmons wishing the fans a Merry Christmas.

MWR Editor’s Note: I have had the pleasure of covering a few matches of Eric Wayne throughout the years. The first, I believe was with Pro Wrestling Epic and the latest was at High Risk Wrestling.
Wayne is a true professional that is always fun to work with. In the ring he is one of the best, and if he is half the husband that he is a wrestler then his future wife Mallorie Bradley has hit the jackpot.
Congrats to both Eric and Mallorie from the MWR family and we wish you happiness forever in this union.
CHERRY VALLEY, Ark. – Professional wrestling fans in Cherry Valley, Ark., got a little bonus post-match memory as Ringside Championship Wrestling (RCW) Superstar Eric Wayne proposed to girlfriend Mallorie Bradley at the conclusion of the evening’s main event.
Wayne had just lost his match against Memphis Wrestling legend “Dangerous” Doug Gilbert when the two were in process of ending a 3-decade long rivalry by shaking hands. RCW Promoter Brian Thompson entered the ring and scolded Wayne for the defeat, claiming that the third generation wrestler was booked to be more vicious and to end Gilbert, not just the feud. With Bradley in the ring, Thompson made derogatory remarks about her relationship with Wayne which infuriated him. Wayne backed Thompson into a corner and the promoter begged off.
As Wayne and Gilbert made amends, Thompson reached into his pocket for what appeared to be a foreign object and turned Wayne around. Thompson’s punch was blocked and Wayne bent the promoter’s arm to obtain the believed-to-be weapon. After securing the object, Wayne turned around, took a knee and used it – an engagement ring – to make the proposal. Of course, Bradley said “Yes!”
A Facebook video of the proposal has been seen by more than 5,000 viewers and now the video of the incident is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/1lCPSeeKrvI
Other results from the show included the following:
Danny Dollar defeated Van “The Man” VanHorn
Jeremy Moore defeated Gary “Roosevelt” Gram to retain the RCW Cherry Valley Invitational Tournament Championship
Nikki Lane defeated Brian Thompson in an impromptu inter-gender match after a distraction from Miss Pookie
High Risk Wrestling Proudly Presents wrestling action on Saturday, April 15th at The Warsaw Community Building in Downtown Warsaw, Missouri! Doors open at 6:00 and the first Bell is at 7:00!
At our last Event, 3 Wrestlers went to a 15 minute draw in The Mayhem Championship Number One Contender’s match. I made the decision right there on the spot, that all three Men deserved and would get a Title match in April!
I can now officially announce this Incredible Championship Match!
HRW Mayhem Championship, 4 Way Mayhem Match!
“The” Ace Hawkins (c) VS “The Filipino Warrior” Elvis Aliaga VS Jack Gamble VS “The Hybrid Ace” Jon Webb
We also had an unprecedented match ending happen in February!
For the first time in almost 20 Years of Promoting, one of my matches ended in a double count out, and in a Championship match, no less! Myself and both of the Athletes involved were not happy with this result!
I have booked a rematch to resolve this issue, once and for all!
HRW High Risk Championship, No Count Out, No DQ, No time limit, there MUST be a winner by Pinfall or Submission ONLY!

MWR artist Dartallion Allen Jr. returns to the site with his MWR 2016 Award Top Draws of the 2016 MWR Wrestler of the Year Mike Outlaw. Outlaw had a great year in which he won titles and delivered exciting matches around the Midwest in just about every top promotion that we covered. MWR was not the only group that had an eye on him, as the new wrestling league the NWL signed him to an exclusive contract and fans can only see him at the Casa Loma Ballroom for NWL STL or the rare Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City for NWL KC.
This MWR plaque is sponsored by our dear friend Brandis Outlaw, and will feature this very own artwork in the frame. In the near future we hope to present it to him in person to honor him on a memorable 2016. .

Missouri Wrestling Revival was on hand for a packed house (att. 548) at the historic South Broadway Athletic Club on Feb 11th. The monster Barackus defended his Missouri Wrestling Revival MO title for the first time since defeating Brandon Espinosa in January. His opponent was dangerous “The” Ace Hawkins, who has set his sights (for quite some time) on the MWR Missouri Championship.
Early on, Barackus showed the electric crowd his awesome power and fearsome attack, as he hammered home clotheslines and bodyslams left and right. Though Hawkins’s raw talents had won him the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Rookie of the Year award in 2011, six years later he has shown that experience mixed with speed and talent is why he is still considered one of the most exciting young stars in the sport today.
During the match, Hawkins took a beating, but was able to keep his composure to stay alive, but it looked like the end was near when Barackus locked on the claw. With the force of a mac truck, Barackus lifted Hawkins up in the air and onto the mat with the clawhold slam for what looked to be the 1-2-3 from the referee Nick Ridenour and a roar of the SBAC fans.
Barackus went to celebrate his victory with the title that was handed to him. However, referee Nick Ridenour had quickly let the fans, MMWA ring announcer Ben Simon and Barackus know that Hawkins had his feet on the ropes. As the referee went to return the MWR MO title back to Ben Simon, Hawkins went low with a kick to the groin that would end Barackus’s title reign mere seconds later.
Hawkins would not be done for the night as he would later use his new belt to level the former MWR Missouri Champion Brandon Espinosa with the strap, sending a message that he is not going to fear anyone in 2017.
Hawkins is a wanted man by both the monster Barackus and the former MWR Wrestler of the Year Brandon Espionsa. First though he will have to see if he can retain his title when he travels to Warsaw, Missouri to take on HRW Mayhem Champion Justin D’Air in a title vs. title match at High Risk Wrestling this Saturday night, February 18.
More details on the HRW Warsaw event and Ace Hawkins as they come in to MWR.

Mike Outlaw continued his rise to be one of the top young talents in the Midwest in 2016 by seeking out the toughest competition he could find. Starting the year off Outlaw challenged Brandon Espinosa in a hard core match before setting his sights to St. Louis Anarchy. Though Outlaw would struggle in the win department at SLA, he quickly earned the respect and love of their passionate fan base.
He would team up with Justin D’Air in a tag team classic at High Risk Wrestling against the Riegel Twins (Logan & Sterling) for the vacated Tag Team Championship. Due to the loss, the two friends quickly became enemies that were set for a brutal ending later in the year.
Outlaw, a former Dynamo Pro Wrestling Champion would set his sights on regaining the title against his archrival Jake Dirden. During this time he entered the WLW Jr. Championship tournament, losing to Jayden Fenix, who would go on to lose to Jon Webb in the finals.
In June, Outlaw would enter the High Risk Wrestling Mayhem tournament defeating Jake Dirden in the first round. In the triple threat finals, Outlaw won the championship over former PWI Rookie of the YearAce Hawkins and Kiyoshi Shizuka.
In July, he challenged MWR Missouri Champion Brandon Espinosa at MMWA in a hard fought contest, just coming up short. Two weekends later, Outlaw earned the biggest win of his young career when he pinned Ring of Honor superstar Delirious. In August, Outlaw, would add his second Dynamo Pro Wrestling title to his resume by defeating Jake Dirden. A title he would hold until December when Brandon Aarons. Outlaw would end the year losing a thrilling last man standing match against D’air at High Risk Wrestling.
Outlaw would wrestle throughout the Midwest for Dynamo Pro, Saint Louis Anarchy, PWCS, MMWA, Proving Ground, WIA, New Breed Pro, Metro Pro, High Risk Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Resurgence . He would have killer matches with the likes of Davey Vega, Gary Jay and fellow young star Kevin Lee Davidson. His hard work would pay off as he now heads into 2017 as a full time NWL contracted superstar, now named Dez Wellston.
