The Uniqueness of Outside Championships

By Christopher M. Zack

This column is the property of Christopher M. Zack and published here as agreed upon by Pro Wrestling Next. No duplication of this column is permitted without the exclusive written consent of the author and/or PWN officials.

General Disclaimer: I can be incredibly long winded. I have a degree in English and love to write, so I tend to write quite a bit. When I’m passionate about something, it comes out even more. I have a lot of passion about the wrestling business, so these columns will definitely be wordy, but it’s all to get discussions going.

That’s right, it’s the return of Angles W/Camera Guy Chris. First things first, personal business. I again would like to apologize for my sporadic posting over the summer months. It’s been hard to sit and focus on (no pun intended) putting together an article between my work schedule and spending time with my daughter during the summer months. Now that school has started again, it’ll be a lot easier to post this for you great fans who visit the boards and read my work.

I also want to announce two things about Angles. Firstly, I will not be posting on a weekly basis. At the moment, I simply don’t have the energy or time to get a new topic together and post every week. It would burn me out very quickly. Angles will be a monthly post at the very least. There may be 2 posts a month depending on time and topics. That leads into my other announcement. My work is going to look more exclusively on Independent wrestling. There are so many great Indy feds and Indy talent out there, that to look at the WWE and TNA would just be foolish on my part. Pro Wrestling NEXT is a great Independent Wrestling Organization showcasing the best young wrestlers out there, and that’s where my attention will be from now on.

I can’t think of a better place to begin this new focus than with some of the events that transpired this past Friday, August 21st, 2009. There are many excellent independent wrestling groups around the world and right here in America. Organizations like Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Full Impact Pro, CHIKARA, and Combat Zone Wrestling come to mind as some of the top Independents that come to mind here in the States. (I left out Ring of Honor, because, honestly, they have a national TV deal and are on PPV, I can’t consider them independent anymore) Friday night’s event at the Bier Stube saw the World Heavyweight Champion of one of these top feds defend his title live for us in the Quad Cities, CZW Champion Drake Younger.

Younger, trained by the likes of Ian Rotten and Chris Hero among others, is a brutal, vicious competitor who has held the Combat Zone World Heavyweight Championship since July 12, 2008, when he defeated Nick Gage for the title. Holding any title for more than a year is a great feat, but it’s definitely a mark of a true champion. Drake is best known for his deathmatch wrestling, a main stable for CZW, but he is also a brilliant technical wrestler and mat technician.

Younger brought this combined style to PWN on the 21st, looking to take down Hunter Matthews. Hunter, former PWN Quad Cities Champion and self-proclaimed “King of Des Moines,” felt he was cheated out of a title and deserved a title match at Bier Stube Bash 2, The Sequel. So, Drake Younger stepped in to give him that opportunity. How often to you get to see a World Title from another organization defended? That is the main point of this article. It’s a treat when another group, especially one as big as CZW allows their title to be defended outside of one of their own shows.

Younger brought is reputation and his World Title to Moline and gave the fans one kick ass ride. I’ve already talked about this match to some extent in my response to the results thread, but I’m going to go a bit more in depth now.

Hunter came out first, and of course took the microphone, much to the dismay of the fans. Matthews has definitely not been a favorite of the QC crowd. He talked about how the Quad Cities Championship had been taken, and his need of holding a title. Younger came out to put a stop to the talking and start the action, bringing and emptying a beer battle as he walked to the ring. He was on Matthews right from the start. Hunter didn’t even have a chance to get out of his jacket before Drake took the fight to him. Eventually, he was able to duck out of the ring and get a moment to pull his jacket off and gear up for the fight, but a moment was all he got.

The CZW Champion quickly followed him out of the ring to continue the beating. Out amongst the fans, we saw many various weapons used and advantages taken by both parties. And under CZW rules, this was all legal. No count outs, no disqualifications. Matthews was hit by a water bottle and a beer can before fighting back and getting Younger prone on top of a hard plastic picnic table. Hunter attempted a piledriver on top of this table but Drake was able to counter. Younger looked like he wanted to slam the “King” down to the cement below, but Matthews was able to block that attempt and the two of them made their way off the table.

The World Champion would empty a garbage can and take that to Hunter Matthews’ skull, leaving an indentation of the King’s “crown” on both sides of the metal can. Younger would then take his empty beer bottle, smash it across the ring post and attempt to lacerate Matthews with it. Hunter was able to dodge that and fought Drake, leading him to the fountain in the Bier Stube’s court yard. He tried to force the Champ’s head under water, and Younger struggled to prevent this, but, Matthews was able to over power him and dunk him for several seconds.

The two men battled back and forth around the outside of the ring until Hunter was able to whip Drake over a couple more plastic picnic tables towards a set of stairs leading up to a balcony overlooking the garden. They fought up to the balcony, both men teetering and trying to push the other over the edge. Thankfully, neither was successful. That would have caused serious injury. After battling back down the stairs they made their way out to the parking lot and onto the metal bed that had carried the ring to the venue. Hunter would get scooped up and slammed on his back on the metal!

At that point, things were pretty well over. Matthews was able to stay on his feet as they fought their way back in the ring. In the ring, Younger hit a sick ass vertibreaker for the win and rolled out of the ring to celebrate with the QC crowd. The fans really seemed to enjoy this. Drake grabbed the microphone, told the fans that he’d heard about Matthews and how he liked to run his mouth a lot. He was glad to have given the fans what they’ve wanted, silence, and he hoped to see them all in the bar to share a beer! At one point, I remember him looking me right in the eye…er…lens…and saying “That’s what you get when you call out Drake Younger” while pointing to Hunter, prone in the ring.

This is the great action you see in Pro Wrestling Next. Not only are we bringing in great new talent, we’re showcasing HUGE matches with World Titles from some of the top feds across the country. This is only the beginning, too. On September 12th, PWN welcomes back Davey Richards, current holder of the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship (a title he’s had once before) and current holder of the Full Impact Pro World Heavyweight Championship, a title he Will Defend in Davenport on September 12th at PWN’S Severed Ties!!!! FIP’s World Title is one of the top 3 wrestling championships in the country, and seeing it defended here in the Quad Cities is going to be excellent.

Back to the Bier Stube Bash, now. The CZW World Title match was awesome, but not the biggest moment of the night by far, in my opinion. The biggest moment happened before that match when The Hooligans defeated the Submission Squad to take the Lethal Wrestling Alliance Tag Team Championships. As unique as it is to see titles defended from other organizations, it is extremely rare to see a title change hands outside of the confines of the group the title is from. What makes this title change even more exciting and controversial is the fact that The Hooligans are not a part of LWA.

First, I have some background info. I need to thanks Brian “Flair” Kelley, Pierre Abernathy, and Kari Williams for tracking down or providing this information for me. The Submission Squad (Pierre Abernathy and Evan Gelistico) originally consisted of Pierre Abernathy, Dingo, and Nick Tyson, but the team has also included Evan Gelistico and “Blackheart” Johnny Vinyl. Before joining Abernathy, Gelistico was a member of the Bearded Men from Space Station Eleven (Gary the Barnowl—who was eventually corrupted by the likes of Gelistico, Abernathy, Tiffany LaFane, and Davey VegaBilly McNeal, XXX Jordan Lacey, and Evan Gelistico) for approximately two years. Abernathy and Gelistico won the LWA Tag Titles on April 4th in O’Fallon, Illinois’s Night’s of Columbus building from the Ego Express (“Spoiled” Steven Kennedy & K.C. Karrington). The Ego Express were the first team to hold the LWA Tag Team Titles, beating Dingo and Davey Vega on 12/18/2008 at Yuletide Terror ’08.

During their title reign, the Submission Squad squared off against the Hooligans, the Northstar Express, and the Ego Express. One of their biggest feuds (before claiming the LWA gold) came against the Bearded Men over a span of two years. This feud saw Gelistico turn on the Space Station, claiming to be Gary’s father. Their other noticeable feud happened when original members, Dingo and Nick Tyson began to distance themselves from Abernathy and Gelistico. This culminated in a match between the new and the old Submission Squad on May 30 at the Vetta Sports Complex. Abernathy & Gelistico emerged victorious.

The Hooligans are Devin and Mason Cutter. The Cutters were raised in the outside districts of East St. Louis IL. They come from a working class family. They are just a couple of thugs or hooligans that enjoy a beer as much as they enjoy a good fight. You can catch them at any local pub after a hard days work drinking with there mates and at the end of the night you sure to see them in a fight. They are best known for their work in IWA-Mid South, where they have competed against some of the best IWA-MS has to offer, including (sometimes with Rain as their partner) Ian & Axl Rotten (sometimes with Mickie Knuckles)—better known as Bad Breed—on several occasions in many different types of hard-hitting, violent matches. The Cutters, in my opinion, are very no nonsense. They’re heavy hitters and consider themselves Working Class Heroes, though the fans from Friday didn’t consider them very heroic when they won the LWA Championships.

In Moline on August 21st, the crowd was already fired up, and it only escalated to see the first of two title matches. The QCA fans were definitely against the Hooligans throughout the match, especially after the match. Security had to restrain both the Hooligans and the crowd following their victory for the LWA Titles.

The match itself saw both teams getting in some early offense, until Devin and Mason cut Evan Gelistico off from his partner. The Cutters used classic heel tactics to divide and concur, isolating Gelistico and using moments when the ref’s back was turned to both double team Gelistico and trade places with blind tags.

During the match, Tim Donst and Jasin Strife came out to watch the proceedings. Donst had lost a match to Tony Kozina earlier in the night due to disqualification after Strife came down and joined Tim in assaulting Kozina. The Submission Squad had come to the aide of Kozina, causing Donst and Strife to flee the ring before Abernathy and Gelistico could lay a hand on them. I didn’t see Donst and Strife come out, since my attention was focused on the action in the ring, and rightly so, I am Camera Guy Chris, after all.

Back in the ring, Gelistico manages to catch a break, tagging in his very fresh, very eager partner, Pierre Abernathy, who proceeded to take down both the Cutters as they took turns charging at him. In the corner, Gelistico was down and prone to Donst and Strife, who chose that moment to strike, taking out Evan’s knee and leaving him crying out in pain on the cement below the ring. Then it was only a matter of time before the numbers game caught up with Abernathy. With no partner waiting on the apron, and the vicious Hooligans having 2-1 odds, it didn’t take long for the match to end, crowing Devin and Mason Cutter the NEW LWA Tag Team Champions.

A title change is always a sight to see, since they can be rare, especially in the independent feds. Seeing a title from another company even defended at an outside event is something big. PWN featured two outside title defenses at the Bier Stube Bash 2. What makes this particular match even more unique is seeing the titles change hands at an outside event. And if that were the only major deal about this match, then, while worth mentioning, it might not get all the attention it is getting. What makes this particular outside title defense and changing of the guard so incredibly special is that the new LWA Tag Team Champions are not a part of the Lethal Wrestling Alliance!

This situation has potential to get very bad very quickly. I know I’ll be following the situation as closely as I can and update the fans on how things turn out. I’d also like to welcome any and all LWA fans visiting the PWN boards and reading this article. I invite you to join in the discussion of both the situation with the Tag Team Titles and the uniqueness of seeing outside titles defended.

I would like to once again thank everyone for the information provided for this article. It’s very much appreciated. I’d also like thank Brian “Flair” Kelley, once again, as well as Missouri Wrestling Revival for giving me the opportunity to reach a new audience with my articles. I hope you all enjoy. For those viewing this on MWR, and would like to join the discussion, the main article can be viewed here at the Pro Wrestling Next board.

Neil “Diamond” Cutter is a One of a kind.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 13, 2009

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

Today there are many high profile second and third generation superstars dominating the wrestling landscape. Cowboy Bob Orton’s son WWE World Champion Randy Orton is at the top of the list along with Ted Dibiase’s son Ted JR who is a tag team partner of former NWA World Champion Dusty Rhodes youngest son Cody form the team known as “The Legacy”. The Midwest also has there eyes on Curt Hening’s son Joe and his daughter Amy as they have got their start in the area with Wrestling Legend Harley Race.

Families and wrestling have a special bond throughout the history of the sport. Throughout the years fans have watched in excitement as the families of the Von Erich’s, The Harts, The Guerrero’s and The Funk’s have brought tears of joy, sadness and at times hatred in the eyes of the special fraternity called “fans”.

This leads us to the Cutters, Devin and Mason Cutter. Two Brothers that have been in the thorn of Midwest wrestlers who have faced them just as days long gone by, when the brothers Frank and Jesse James terrorized the government who they felt had gave them no choice but to fight back. The James Gang were known as outlaws whereas the Cutlers are known as The Hooligans.

The Hooligans (Photo By Brian "Flair" Kelley)

The Hooligans (Photo By Brian "Flair" Kelley)

What is a Hooligan you ask? I caught up with Devin and Mason and Mason gave me a thorough explanation “We are known as The Hooligans, we represent a society called Skinheads. That does not mean we are racists because we are not. We proudly come from the working class where you take pride in hard work. Skinhead means that we stand up against a government that is slowly taking apart a society that once belonged to the working class. We will strap on our boots and march with our fellow working men and stomp out these fascists governments. In the end we will finally give the power back to the people the way it was meant to be.” he continued to say “United we stand in this movement, united we will stomp the oppressors out. We are not a gang, just brothers black and white we stand and fight, we fly no colors, our torn up knuckles and faded blue jeans are the colors we wear. We don’t need no gang to watch our ass just loyal friends from the working class. Arm and arm we fight as one. We should be labeled as the men and women that have built this society from scratch. We should be known simply as WORKING CLASS HEROES!!

Midwest fans have been watching The Hooligans join together as family going to war with Ian Rotten at IWA. What one may have missed is that there is a third Cutter.

The black sheep of the family - Neil Diamond Cutter(Photo Credit Brian "Flair" Kelley)

The black sheep of the family - Neil Diamond Cutter(Photo Credit Brian "Flair" Kelley)

His name is Neil “Diamond” Cutter, one would say he is a little on the strange side. While the Devin and Mason were planning and plotting on how to take a stand against the oppression in this politically correct world, “Lil” Cutter was in the back room listening to Neil Diamond classics, “Sweet Caroline” and “Kentucky Women” blaring much to the disdain of the Cutter family.

Mason Cutter confirmed this with displeasure in his voice. Neil would always be listening to those damn Neil Diamond cds all night. It drives us crazy. Mason Cutter

I was able to catch up with Neil at a recent Independent  Hardcore Wrestling show in Dupo, Illinois to get his thoughts on his brothers and there upcoming match in the semi title tournament match for the High Voltage Wrestling tag team titles to question weather he would be in the house to support his brothers all he could talk about was the BIG NEWS!!

Neil Diamond had his first ever online store!!?? Yes, now he can buy all his Diamond merchandise at one spot. The little Cutler was quite pleased with himself as he explained to me that “You can get all your Neil Diamond merchandise From the Neil Diamond messenger bag to the Brand new Neil Diamond album The Home Before Dark Deluxe Edition CD which features two BONUS tracks and a second DVD disc with up close and personal footage of the new music. Neil proudly stated “Brian, Don’t Buy it anywhere but from the online store because there you can get the free Neil Diamond Poster!”

With great advice from Neil withstanding, one can not discount the talent of the runt of the family. Fearlessness and toughness have never been in question from Neil, he showed that this April at IWA’S Bloodshowers part one when he assisted his brothers to get the win against the hardcore brothers known as Bad Breed, Ian and Axl Rotten in a Barbed Wire- match.

Neil’s single’s debut at IWA was against up and comer Juice Robinson. Neil must have stayed up late jamming to Neil’s classic “Walk on water” because no matter what he did he crashed and burned with the young pretty boy taking home the win, while his brothers Devin and Mason looked back in disgust.

”I don’t understand Neil Diamond music and even less as to why Neil loves it so damn much.” Devon Cutter

Wrestlers should not let Neil’s odd behavior or his size fool them. He is one of the most fearless wrestlers in the Midwest today. Going into the match with the youngest and smallest Cutler looks to be a cakewalk. When the bell rings he has the ability to use his body like a missile hitting you from every direction. When Neil goes to the top rope and comes down on you with such great height the downward momentum feels like he hit you with a sledgehammer.

Ian Rotten stood up for the lil Cutter at the show , “Truth Justice, and the IWA way” when he stated firmly “Neil has a bigger pair of balls than both of the Hooligans combined!”

Watch out for Neil’s Bombs Away”. While his opponent is down on their hands and knees thinking that it is safe , Neil runs onto their back and jumps straight up to delivers a pain full senton bomb. Explosive and deadly, Neil is always looking to hit one of the many versions of his Diamond Cutter for the win which he calls D.N.D (Dedication to Neil Diamond).

Neil may not be a household name today but this journalist has been around the MWR coverage area scouting talent and he is what you would call a sleeper. A poor mans Evan Bourne, Neil has some of the raw skills that the WWE’S Bourne possesses. Neil shocked the Midwest when he was able to get the biggest win in his short career this past May at IWA Mid-South when he defeated one of the top 5 stars in the Midwest Mark Sterling by delivering the patented D.N.D. Just a small glimpse of what the little guy can do.

In a world where big men rule the ring Neil’s breathtaking moves have the chance to steal the show and the spotlight at any event. Even from his big brothers who look down on him as he tries to show them that he is worthy of the Cutter name.

I will leave you with a request from Neil “Diamond” Cutter himself. MWR fans (I never thought I would be saying this) I give you Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline…..

Ten reasons why you do not want to miss High Voltage Wrestling on August 15

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 10, 2009

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

Pro wrestling fans, there are many shows to attend this August, but the one you will not want to miss is High Voltage Wrestling on August 15, 2009. TNT Keny G has broken out the piggy bank to give the fans the best in Midwest pro wrestling. Keny G said it best—“HVW fans will have a buffet of wrestling action on the 15th in Granite City, IL as we are bringing out all the stars to celebrate our return,”

Keny G pulled out all the stops to provide you, the fans, with the best bang for your buck. Let’s take a look at the Top 10 reasons you do not want to miss High Voltage Wrestling.

1.The HVW Champion Donovan Ruddick will defend his HWV Heavyweight Championship against the most hyped wrestler in 2009, the HVW Livewire Champion Kahagas.

HVW Poster

Poster by EA

Kahagas has toured around the world this summer and received an invitation to participate in the IWA Ted Petty International tournament in September and will return to his home promotion to try to prove his dominance over one of the most powerful men in the Midwest.

Ruddick is powerful, standing at 6”9. Many have stated that the man is just one step away from the WWE. Managed by the The Magic Man, Ruddick looks to impose his will on the Tokyo Monster. Ruddick taking on Kahagas has been boiling for some time. The HVW Arena will be crazy when these two go at it in a FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE MATCH!!!

2.Santana G’s debut.

Photo By Michael R Van Hoogstraat

Photo By Michael R Van Hoogstraat

With a huge void in the Midwest womens wrestling scene, Santana G has been the buzz of the summer. Training at the NWA Dynamo Gym, word has it that she has been working hard to learn her craft. Beautiful and sweet, Santana G was put in the line of fire when B.A.B.E.Watch members Brandon Aarons and Brandon Espinosa jumped her dad, Keny G, in the middle of the ring at the last show. Fan favorite Juice Robinson made the save and Santana’s dad let Aarons know that at this show he was to get a female tag team partner as Santana G would be teaming up with Juice for a mixed tag team match.

Come to HVW and be able to say that you were there when Santana made her wrestling debut.

One can not forget that two of the Young guns of the sport are in this match Juice Robinson and Brandon Aarons are the future of the sport and this will be the first match between this two but one would assume that these two will meet each other many times in the future.

3.Mississippi Madman comes to HVW !!

As punishment for the beatdown of TNT Keny G, Brandon Espinosa will have to face Keny G’s hired gun, the Mississippi Madman. The Mississippi Madman is a nice guy out of the ring but when the bell rings, the big man is one bad man. I caught up with the Mississippi Madman and he had these words for Brandon Espinosa.

4.The 2008 MWR Wrestler of the Year Jeremy Wyatt.

Poster by Kari Williams

Poster by Kari Williams

One of the baddest men on the planet, Jeremy Wyatt will be in the house. You never know what the Rebel is up to. The most talked about guy in the MWR coverage area, Jeremy Wyatt has arguably had a better year in 2009.

5. PWE US Title Defense

Mark Sterling defeated Hunter Mathews and Krotch for the PWE US title in June. Can he survive the speed of Gary J and Rebel Lucha? Both of these superstars are coming off heartbreaking title losses at HVW with Ruddick beating Rebel Lucha and Kahagas stopping Gary J. Sterling returns to HVW with PWE gold, will he be able to walk out with it, is the question.
HVW PWE Triple

6.The semi finals to the HVW Tag team tournament.

Tag team action at its best. The Hooligans, the Bandana Mafia, Zero Gravity and Nick Brubaker will be in the house with a partner of his choice. Who will emerge as the first ever HVW Tag team Champions?

We caught up with The Hooligans and they sent a warning the teams at HVW

7.Wrestlecraps Blade Braxton
Wrestlecrap 2
Since 2000, WrestleCrap.com has been THE definitive source for all the worst of professional wrestling. Whether it be an evil one-eyed midget named Cheatum or grown men fighting over an uncooked turkey, WrestleCrap is the place to kick back and laugh at the dumbest stuff ever presented in – and outside – a wrestling ring!

Come to High Voltage Wrestling to meet Blade Braxton one of the co-authors of one of my favorite books WrestleCrap book of List. Blade works hard on the website and will be sponsoring the special appearance of The Midnight Rose in the first ever HVW Battle Royal.

8.Dingo

If you don’t like watching Dingo, then you just don’t like wrestling. Many believe that he is the most exciting wrestlers in the past few years in St Louis. Dingo’s last appearance in HVW was in a victory over Kahagas. Dingo looks to add HVW gold to his illustrious resume. That may be easier said that done. Dingo is set to match up with Tony Kozina. Kozina will be making his debut at HVW with full intentions of leap frogging Dingo to the title. Two wrestlers who can really go, this could be the match of the night.

9.Battle Royal
Who has it in them to claim the first ever HVW Battle Royal?

10. Will Mark Bland be brave enough to show.
awr

My money is on the fact that Bland is all talk and no go, but HVW has sent him and invite to show up. The feud of 2009 has been HOT all summer. It started with Absoulte Wrestling Radio’s Matt Krueger insulting “Future” Donovan Ruddick in the middle of the ring. Bland was not happy about it all and called out promoter TNT Keny G during his show. Keny would infiltrate the show and take it over when Bland was out of town. Mark Bland then viciously attacked TNT Keny G at The Fan Shop in St. Louis, leaving him bruised and battered. The two had words at Six Flags during a special AWR broadcast in June.

Bland wants a match with Ruddick and promises to knock him out. Will Mark Bland be brave enough to show, or will he take my advice and stay far far away?

MWR June Awards

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 19, 2009

Hello Wrestling fans as one of my idols would say….A slow month in the number of shows in June but some very exciting and important developments in the Midwest scene.

One of our own has the honor of being invited into the Ted Petty Invitational tournament in September. KC Karrington takes out the seemingly unbeatable Jeremy Wyatt, A promotion rises from the ashes to be the top dog for the month. Hadeev wrestles FIVE times and comes out the Albert J. Murray Memorial Tournament winner. Donovan Ruddick and Mark Bland is touted as the must see match of the year with a little help from a guy known as TNT. Speaking of the Future Donovan Ruddick he had words with the powerful Keith Walker at PWE after Walker rumbled with the Mississippi Madman.

The Submission Squad gains momentum going into the second half. 3XW Champion Casanova proved that he is the man to beat at 3XW. The youth of St Louis excelled at IHW as Brandon Aarons was able to defeat Gary Jay to be entered in the match, and then was awarded the victor when he outlasted Eric Allen, Billy McNeil and Adam Rich. This was just a few of the Highlights of June 2009.

The year is half way over with no clear cut winner for the year end awards. Make your way to a pro wrestling show near you and let us know what you like or did not like. Till then Thank you for taking the time to check out Missouri Wrestling Revival Awards for June.

The Promoter of High Voltage Wrestling goes above and beyond by shamelessly promoting his company which is still in its infancy. He continually posts on message boards, videos, and radio to get fans interested in his product. He and his staff will go to other events in order to scout different talent to bring in and help his promotion. There is nothing Keny G will not do to help better HVW and Midwest independent wrestling. Took over the Absolute Wrestling Radio’s broadcast then Suffered a beat down from AWR’S Mark Bland, and then had words at the live AWR airing from Six Flags. TNT Keny G has been busy even though he has not had a show since May.

K.C. Karrington and Jeremy Wyatt went through a hellacious battle for the LWA Heavyweight Title on June 20 at LWA’s Circus Maximus VI. In a nearly 40 minute brawl, these two athletes threw everything at each other, but the desire to be champion kept both of them pushing forward. Wyatt treated Karrington as an unworthy contender but quickly realized that Karrington’s desire matched his own. Many nearfalls and narrow escapes occurred, including Wyatt inadvertently hitting himself in the head with a steel chair as it bounced off the ring ropes. Wyatt could have retained his belt after connecting with the lightning spiral, but with ref was knocked out, allowing Wyatt to have Sterling interfere on his behalf. Biggs saw the events unfolding and chased Sterling to the back before any damage could be done. Karrington then hit Wyatt with a DDT from the second rope and made his dream come true.

PWE – June 20th Now at Lincoln Illinois Bloody” Harker Dirge vs “The Japanese Nightmare” Kahagas

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 2, 2009

pwe jUNE 20TH

The next PWE event, originally scheduled to be held in Springfield, IL, on June 20th has been moved to LINCOLN, IL.

It will NOW be held at the VFW HALL located at 915 Fifth St. in Lincoln, with a start time of 3:00 PM.

The VFW on Old Jacksonville Rd was unfortunately double booked for June 20, leaving us with no alternative.

Even with a 3:00 PM start, using the Springfield venue would have prevented PWE from being able to deliver a full show due to the time restraints, (not to mention setup/teardown of ring), and we do sincerely apologize for any inconveniences.

HVW ‘Peace and Blood’ May 9 arena report

Posted by reimaginejournalism on May 31, 2009

By Kari Williams

In Granite City, IL at the River’s Edge Complex, High Voltage Wrestling (HVW) put on nine matches for the 115 fans in attendance. From debuts to title defenses to a challenge from Absolute Wrestling Radio, this show was packed from top to bottom.

Alexander Rudloph made his impressive debut against Max Archer. Barely giving Archer a chance to breathe, Rudolph pummeled and absolutely punished his much smaller opponent. The brutality elicited from the newcomer surpassed that of Archer, who took a beating both inside and outside the ring. Rudolph easily pinned Archer for the victory.

TNT Keny G then came to ringside to introduce another new member of the HVW roster, his daughter, Santana. Before Keny could so much as state his daughter’s name, “Thee” Brandon Espinosa and “Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons, B.A.B.E.WATCH, appeared to stir up some trouble. Aarons complimented Santana and made suggestive comments while advancing toward her as Keny attempted to block Aarons.

Espinosa then hit Keny from the side and the two began attacking Keny until Juice Robinson made the save. As B.A.B.E.WATCH returned to the locker room, Keny announced that Aarons and a female partner of his choosing would face Robinson and Santana on Aug. 15 at the next HVW show.

A guantlet match took place next, as Mark Smart announced that he saw Rick Fuller’s gauntlet at the previous show and believed he could dominate oncomers just the same.

Michael Sain, Cabal, Shawn Allen and the Fish Farmer all answered the challenge—and they all walked away, leaving Smart writhing in pain. Smart tried his best to maintain an advantage, but his opponents had the wherewithall to attack Smart at opportune moments.

Eric Allen, Eric Fantabulous and Hunter Matthews wrestled an impressive triple threat match. Early on, Matthews seemed reluctant to insert himself in the bout and Allen and Fantabulous fought it out for a while. However, Allen and Matthews teamed up in an attempt to eliminate Fantabulous from the equation.

The desire to win soon took over, and all three men fought for themselves. Filled with multiple near falls and impressive maneuvers, these three men put everything on the line. In the end, Allen pulled out a victory over Matthews with a quick roll up.

The Bandana Mafia’s “Notorious E.V.A.N.” Evan Gelistico took on Michael Sain in the following contest. Gelistico started strong, knocking Sain out of the ring and proceeding to fly over the top rope onto the dazed Sain. Gelistico then brought the match back in the ring and continued to control the match until Sain’s anger overcame him. Gelistico fought valiantly against the infuriated Sain, but Sain emerged victorious.

The Pro Wrestling Entertainment (PWE) Tag Team Champions Zero Gravity, CJ Esparza and Brett Gakiya, put their belts on the line against The Hooligans. Esparza and Gakiya started the bout off with highflying intensity, clearing the ring of their opponents.

The fast-paced risk-takers met the more grounded Hooligans in an impressive bout that could have gone either way. Using their blunt force and tag team skill, the Hooligans cut off the ring and blocked Esparza from tagging Gakiya for a large portion of the bout, almost causing them to win. However, the referee disqualified the Hooligans for using steel chairs on Zero Gravity, allowing Esparza and Gakiya to retain their recently won belts.

Following the successful title defense, Absolute Wrestling Radio Co-host Matt Kreuger addressed HVW fans and “Future” Donovan Ruddick, specifically. Kreuger explained that he called Keny while on the air, forcing him to put his champion’s belt on the line against Former Wrestler and Current Absolute Wrestling Radio Co-host Mark Bland.

Ruddick emerged at ringside with Magic Man by his side and proceeded to attack Kreuger and literally threw him out of the building. HVW Livewire Champion Kahagas then walked through the door through which Kreuger was thrown, causing Keny to announce that on Aug. 15, fans would witness a Falls Count Anywhere match for the HVW Heavyweight Title between Kahagas and Ruddick.

After intermission, Shawn Allen took on the Bandana Mafia’s “Point Blank” Pierre Abernathy. Allen’s brutal offense slowed Abernathy in the beginning, especially after Allen wrapped Abernathy’s knee around the ring post. The ever-valiant Abernathy slowly powered his way out of defeat with Gelistico’s ringside support, and soon, nobody could stop him. Point Blank’s determination overcame Allen’s strength, locking in a win for the Bandana Mafia.

Aarons and Espinosa wrestled The Hybrids, Jason Lyte and Curtis Gilly, in the following contest. From the moment B.A.B.E.WATCH made their way to the ring, the fans relentlessly harrassed them, setting up their mindset for the entire match. Despite pyschological distractions, Aarons and Espinosa put up a tremendous fight against their opponents.

Their unique offense and use of illegal tactics nearly propelled them to a win. However, The Hybrids focused in on a miscommunication between their opponents—Aarons inadvertantly superkicked Espinosa—and walked away victorious. After the match, the Hooligans appeared from the locker room and attacked the Hybrids.

Robinson, accompanied by Santana, wrestled Nick Brubaker in a fabulous bout. Before the two could even lock up, Aarons attacked Robinson. That distraction allowed Brubaker to start the match off in dramatic fashion, but Robinson quickly found his niche in the friendly competition.

The two put on a show for the fans, and with multiple nearfalls and close encounters, it was hard to tell who would come out victorious. Robinson ended up walking away with the one, two, three, after which, Brubaker attacked Robinson and turned on Zero Gravity and Robinson.

The always energetic and flamboyant Gary Jay challenged Kahagas for the HVW Livewire Championship. From the get-go, Kahagas had his hands full with Jay’s unpredictable offense. Once the champion grounded Jay, he controlled the match.

However, Jay was not one to be discounted, as he gave his all, and nearly won the Livewire title on more than one occasion. Kahagas’ power became too much for Jay, and he succumbed. Although Jay did not leave Granite City with the championship, he left with the respect of the fans, and Kahagas as well. One could argue that another title shot lies in the near future for Jay.

In the main event, Ruddick put his HVW Heavyweight Championship on the line against Rebelucha. As, arguably, the best match of the evening, Ruddick and Rebelucha held nothing back. The champion used his power and ferocity in an attempt to will Rebelucha away from victory.

Still, Rebelucha pressed on and had Ruddick teetering on the edge of defeat. The challenger’s distinctive skill set caught Ruddick off guard and nearly cost him the belt. In spite of this, when Rebelucha attempted to lock in a triangle choke, Ruddick’s power became too much to bear. Moments later, Ruddick put Rebelucha down for the count with his border toss finisher.
