High Risk Wrestling Update for this Friday Night in Warsaw, Missouri

High Risk Wrestling Presents “Final Fight”, our last Event of the year on Friday, December 2nd, at the Warsaw Community Building in Downtown Warsaw, Missouri! The doors open at 7:00PM and The First Bell is at 8:00PM!

At this time, I have some bad news. I was informed that Davey Richards and Angelina Love did not get their Missouri Wrestlers Licenses renewed in time for this Event. Unfortunately, this means that they will not be able to appear this Friday.

I am working hard to find a suitable replacement for both of them.

No matter what, “Miss Natural” Heather Patera will be in the house to meet and greet with the fans and who knows what else she may have in store for us!

I offered to just add Tony Kozina to the Title match with Mike Sydal, since he is the Number 1 Contender in my eyes. Being the competitor that he is, Tony refused to have anything handed to him and insisted on competing in the Number 1 Contenders match, so he can earn his Title shot!

Therefor, the winner of the Number 1 Contenders match between Kozina and Shizuka will now receive their Title shot that very same night!

I will continue to search out more of the finest High Risk Athletes to add to this Event to make sure that it is our best Event, EVER!

High Risk Wrestling Presents “Final Fight”, our last Event of the year on Friday, December 2nd, at the Warsaw Community Building in Downtown Warsaw, Missouri! The doors open at 7:00PM and The First Bell is at 8:00PM!

We are just two weeks away from our next HUGE Event! At this time, I can announce the next two matches!

1. The new HRW Tag Team Champions, BabeWatch will be defending their newly won Championships against former Champ, Matt Kenway and a new partner of his choosing!

2. After the Wild Main Event at our last Event, where Justin D’Air defeated his former friend, turned Enemy, Mike Outlaw to win The HRW Mayhem Championship, I have decided to make a rule change to The Mayhem Championship as it will now be defended in more than just multiple person matches!

Back in 2005, I, Frank Thurman, ran a Promotion called F.I.S.T. Wrestling in Peoria, Illinois. This Promotion had a Championship called The Specialty Championship. This was a totally new and different Title as it had some specific rules. This Championship could only be defended in some kind of Speciality match, which could be anything from, winner gets 5 minutes with the manager to a 3 way match to a Cage match to a Table match, etc., but there had to be some type of stipulation before the Title could be defended.

The First Athlete to claim The F.I.S.T. Specialty Championship was Now, Wrestling Legend, SharkBoy who defeated Independent Wrestling Legend, Jimmy Jacobs managed by Tank Thurman in a 5 count match, where a 3 count was not good enough, you had to keep your opponent down for a full 5 count!

With this in mind, I have decided to change the Stipulations for The HRW Mayhem Championship!

The HRW Mayhem Title will now have the same stipulations as the Specialty Title! The Mayhem Title can now only be defended in a match with some kind of special stipulations, including multiple person matches!

After watching the last two matches between, Justin and Mike, where they literally left bumps and bruises on each others bodies, I have decided that this conflict between these two Men, needs to end before someone ends up permanently disabled. To that end, I have booked one last match between these two, to hopefully end this once and for all!

Unfinished Business Between HRW Champion Mike Sydal and Tony Kozina at High Risk Wrestling

1. Jay Howard defeated Karim Brigante w/ Miss Monica. After the match Karim viciously attacked Jay!

2. Kyle Roberts beat Roy Lewis

3. Kiyoshi Shizuka defeated Canadian Cougar

Karim tells a befuddled HRW Announcer Brian Thompson that he will challenge his valet Miss Monica in her open challenge match

4. Miss Monica Passeri VS Karim Brigante never got started because Jay Howard wasn’t going to allow that to happen as he came out and attacked Karim to save Monica from this ugly situation!

The $500 High Risk Pepper Contest was taken by just two HRW Fans… Both men came very close to taking home the money in an impressive showing but at the end of the night the heat of the hot peppers proved to be too much.

5. Da’Marius Jones and Brandon Aarons (substituting for A. J. Williams) Managed by Garret “Freakin” Williams Retained The HRW Tag Team Championship in a hard fought match against Bam Bam Malone / Jaxon Stone

6. Greg Anthony and Deven Spade fought to the back in a massive brawl to result in a double DQ in The NWA Title VS Title match

If Instant replay was to be used at HRW, would Sydal of retained with the pinfall ? Regardless with the action being so fast and furious the match proved to be one worthy of a rematch in October.

7. High Risk Wrestling Champion Mike Sydal battled to a double pin with Tony Kozina! This didn’t sit well with either men and they came to an agreement to have a rematch on October 21!

Referee Jay King works his 500th match

In less than 4 years, referee Jay King has worked his 500th wrestling match. MWR recently caught up with him to find out about his career.

MWR: How did you get started as a referee?

JAY: To be honest, at the time I didn’t even know about independent wrestling. I went to a Ring of Honor show and heard someone say, “Dr. King? What the hell are you doing here?” My full time job is as a veterinarian and earlier in the day I did a C-section on a dog owner by the guy asking me the question, Keith Smith. I found out he had been a wrestler for 25 years and was now a commissioner for one of the local feds. A week later when he brought his dog into the clinic to get the stitches out I just kiddingly said, “I know I’m too old to be a wrestler, but I can count to three if you need a referee!” He said they had a ref getting to retire in the next year if I was interested.

MWR: Who trained you?

JAY: The wrestler Johnny Courageous. He had never trained a referee and was willing to give it a try.

MWR: What was the training like?

JAY: Most of it was just working training matches. It’s much different than watching it on TV. You have to know all the rules and watch for everything, like a foot on the ropes while at the same time you’re trying to watch the shoulders for a three count. I would also see some spectacular move and just sort of stand there and say, “That was really cool.” The wrestlers would look at me and say, “Hey, do you want to count?” No longer just watching – I’m part of the show too.

But after a while I found myself being in the way, I didn’t know where the wrestlers were going to move after certain wrestling techniques. And really after you understand that after a suplex you get up one way, it gets pretty easy. So I asked Johnny to give me basic wrestling training so I could be a better referee. I didn’t learn anything fancy, but I can see the “space” in the ring now.

MWR: What do you remember about your first match?

JAY: Actually my first match was a battle royal, so I just stood outside the ring and didn’t do much. The same show I worked with Ken Kasa and Jimmy D. When I went to do the pat down, Jimmy D raised his foot and kicked me right in the groin. I quickly learned where to keep my hands.

MWR: Did you grow up watching wrestling?

JAY: Well, I’m an old guy so I grew up watching Wrestling at the Chase. I remember my grandpa would drag the mattress into the living room every Saturday night and we would lay there until I fell asleep. The good thing was they showed it again on Sunday morning so I could see anything I missed. Later on in St. Louis you could watch World Class and some of the southern US shows. In college I could get AWA, WWF(E) and WCW. I guess I’ve watched a lot of wrestling in my life.

MWR: What organizations have you refereed for?

JAY: My first match was with MMWA. Then SICW and Dynamo Pro. Since then I’ve also worked for NWA Central States, High Risk Wrestling, Half Pint Brawlers, Extreme Midget Wrestling, PWCS, Pro Wrestling Epic, Fist Combat Wrestling, Beyond Wrestling, Anarchy, and the Cauliflower Alley in Las Vegas.

MWR: What wrestlers have you worked with the most?

JAY: I keep a list of every match I’ve worked. Out of 500 matches, I’ve refed 53 with Brandon Espinosa. I guess that makes sense since he works for three of the feds that I do. Following him would be Jake Dirden (44), Gary Jackson (39), and Ricky Cruz (35). I won’t say I have any favorites because I don’t want to seem impartial. Plus, I don’t want anyone to be upset and take it out on me in the ring.

MWR: Have you been hurt in the ring?

Jay: I’ve been punched, kicked, thrown out of the ring, choked out, been in a cross face, squashed between Big Texan and Frankie Wyatt (almost 700lbs of meat), and had by head split open with a steel chair. On that last one, I asked one of the wrestlers if I need stitches. His reply, “That should scab nicely.” After that, I think the boys in the locker room respected me more because I bleed with them.

MWR: What has been your favorite match that you’ve worked?

JAY: Several months ago I worked a match with Little Kato and Beautiful Bobby, two midgets. Usually as a ref, I’m suppose to be invisible. Only being seen for counts and enforce the rules. With those guys there were so many spots that I was, well, part of the show. They were yelling at me, I had to get untangle from the ropes, and then at one point when one would kick out he would sling the other one into the air where I had to catch them. At one point I tried to throw Kato out of the ring (after he told me to do it to Bobby). That was so much fun.

MWR: What is the hardest part of being a referee?

JAY: Staying out of the way! When you get two guys running back and forth in a 20 foot ring it is sometimes hard not to be where they are. Then you do a three way, tag team, or 4 tag team match…at some point you know all of them are going to be in the ring. Less space for me.
The worse time started with three guys in the ring. Then came in Sabu. Soon he had a chair that he was throwing all over the place. Then a table. I was ducking and running for my life. Sabu and Ken Kasa went through the table and I had to dive over them to get to the other wrestlers for the three count.

MWR: How was the 500th match?

JAY: It was the “Legends vs Monsters” match: Gary Jackson, Cowboy Bob Orton, and Ron Powers vs Vic the Bruiser, Kahagas, and Atilla Kahn. Anytime you two of those guys in a ring together you know it’s going to be a wild match, but all six…I had my hands full.

MWR: So 500 matches. What’s next?

JAY: I’m usually working 3 shows a month (one month 8), but as long as I’m having fun, I’m just going to keep doing it. One thing I do ask the wrestlers, if you aren’t going to be able to hold the other guy down for a three count, please do it close to the ropes. For me, getting down for a count is easy but getting up sometimes can be hard. If you are close to the ropes, I can at least pull myself back up.

High Risk Wrestling “Total Mayhem!”: A Night of High Emotion and New Champions

The title of this event “Total Mayhem!” could not have fit any better. On a night where we saw legends and newcomers alike make a huge impact there were a handful of memorable moments that have to be shared with the masses. So strap on your seat belt because we are going to attempt to capture the events that unfolded in Warsaw, MO on June 25th, 2016! There was amazing in ring action as you have come to expect from HRW but there was also an amazing amount of emotion in the crowd due to the situation with “Young and Dangerous” Evan Morris and of course the absence of the beloved HRW tag team champions The Riegal Twins. Additionally, on this night HRW would crown a first-ever “Mayhem Champion” and brand new HRW Tag Team champions! So much to cover so little time… So let’s get going!

(Tag Match: Morris/Kenway vs Espy/Aarons aka BabeWatch) (Match time: 15:00)
The in-ring action kicked off with impressive tag team match involving “Young and Dangerous” Evan Morris teaming with “The Incredible” Matt Kenway to face two mainstays in the local indie scene Brandon Aarons and the MWR Missouri Champion Brandon “Espy” Espinosa. This match was highlighted by Espy egging on the crowd for several minutes at the beginning of the match, a wicked double superkick by BabeWatch, and a crazy springboard double back elbow by Evan Morris.

The most memorable moment by far though is the surprising betrayal by Evan Morris. At the most critical moment of the match, Morris decided that he has enough of teaming with Matt Kenway who truthfully speaking carried the team for the majority of match up to that point. Morris was reaching out for a tag and when Kenway was finally able to reach out to tag in Morris, Morris pulls his hand away and dropped off the ring apron. Kenway is at this point tired and confused, to say the least. That was just the opening that BabeWatch needed to get the win. As if that wasn’t enough Morris then got into the ring with what looked like the intention of adding insult to injury to the already worn out young star in the making Matt Kenway. Just as he made his way towards Kenway and old rival ran down the ramp and into the ring. None other than Devon Spade! At the very site of Spade, Morris headed for the hills. This only built more heat to the already tense rivalry between the two. More on this a little later…

(Singles qualifying match for a shot at the brand new Mayhem Championship: Outlaw vs Jake Dirden) (Match time:13:00) In this surprise match up Mike Outlaw took on Dirty Jake Dirden. These two have a serious history of violence and have faced off all over the MidWest trading wins, loses, blood, sweat, and tears. On this night at HRW, they would face off for a chance to enter the co-main event where a first ever Mayhem Champion would be crowned. That raised the stakes between the two to an even higher level.

That might explain why Outlaw came out with his new manager the Legendary “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton of the Midnight Express. Even that wasn’t enough to gather any sympathy from the Warsaw crowd. Especially since Mike reached a new low by baiting a 7-8yr old kid with his bandana then promptly snatching it away while chuckling and pointing as the kid stood there almost in tears. Once the match began it was hard hitting as you would expect (once Outlaw quit running around and hiding behind Eaton). One of the bigger moments was a closeline from hell delivered from Dirden to Outlaw that sent Outlaw flying out of the ring and kept him out for several minutes. For the finish, Dirden had Mike set up perfectly for the BIG boot but right at the last second Mike ducked and the boot hit the ref square in the face. At that moment Dirden grabs Outlaw and hits him with the Aziatic Spike which led to the Outlaw tap out. Not seconds into Dirden’s celebration, the ref reverses the decision based on Eaton and Outlaw’s crying/petitioning about the BIG BOOT to the face to the ref a few minutes earlier. Upon recollection by the ref, Dirden is stripped of the win and his chance to move on to the final of the Mayhem tournament via DQ.

A decision that the crowd didn’t not appreciate or agree with at all.

(Singles qualifying match for a shot at the brand new Mayhem Championship: Kioshi Shizuka vs Camron Jay Howard) (Match time:12:00)

Young up and comer the “Freestyle Phenom” Jay Howard impressed against the hated Shizuka in a match that displayed Howard’s endless reserve of energy and passion and also the savvy mind of a seasoned veteran like Kiyoshi.

After finding himself metaphorically and literally on the ropes Kiyoshi resorted to some underhanded tricks but not before the Freestyle Phenom got in a sick spine busted that could be heard across the lake that the community center sits on. In the end, Kiyoshi intentionally pushed Jay into the ref so the ref can’t see what was going on, as he’s trying to recover and that gave Shizuka just enough time to hit Jay in the gut with the Japanese flag pole right in the gut and roll him up for the ol’ 1..2..3.. Allowing him to move on to the final of the “Mayhem Championship.”

(Singles qualifying match for a shot at the brand new Mayhem Championship: Ace Hawkins vs Canadian Cougar) (Match time:7:00)

This interesting matchup was just as quick as it was exiting. Some highlights where Ace’s Swanton bomb off the top rope and an incredible dive though the ropes on the Cougar. Ace got the win and advanced to the final of the “Mayhem Championship tournament.”

(Tag team matchup: Tyler Copeland & Elvis Aliaga vs Tony Kozina) (Match time: 8:00)
In what was a straight up 2 on 1 the hard fighting Kozina overcame the odds and will now have his shot on August 6th to face Mike ‘the Yoga Monster’ Sydal for the #HRW title back in Warsaw, Missouri.

(Singles double title match: Evan Morris w/Garret “Freaking” Williams VS Devon Spade) (Match time: 9:00)

These two have a history that goes back a long way. For starters, one of the belts that Morris had in his possession happened to belong to Spade in the first place. No more than a few shows back Morris stole the title and has been playing cat and mouse with Spade ever since. On this night Morris ended up paying the proverbial piper by losing his NWA Missouri Title and having to return the NWA central states title to its rightful owner. But oddly enough, as significant as this was, that was not the biggest story of the match.

That was reserved for what happened after the conclusion of the match, where Morris took a sitting position in the middle of the ring reminiscent of CM Punk sitting on the stage in WWE a few years back before dropping the infamous “pipe bomb” promo. In this case though, there was no shade to be thrown or no wrongs to be righted. Evan respectfully asked the crowd if he could be “serious for a moment” he then emotionally explained that he would be stepping away from his wrestling career to focus more on his wife and young child. An honorable act no matter how you slice it. Regardless of how you feel about the Young and Dangerous one, your heart would have gone out to him also for making such a touch decision. Everyone in the building stood up and gave him the ovation and round of applause that he so right deserved. I stood right near the entrance as he took one final glance back towards the ring and could tell that it was taking every ounce of strength in him to not shed a tear. Who could have blamed him if he would have? The fortunate part is he was able to walk out of the building with his head held high and the fans were left with the hopes of one day seeing this great your wrestler step foot in the ring once again. No doubt this is one of many reasons why the connection between fans and wrestlers is such a special one that you don’t see in any other sport. Evan, you will truly be missed.

(Tag team match to crown new #HRW tag team champions: AJ Williams/Da’Marius Jones 2.0 VS Jack Gamble/Jon Webb HLE) (Match time: 11:00)

A bittersweet match to say the least, the sweet part coming from the fact that fans knew this match was going to be a treat from the moment it was announced due to the immense talent of all four men involved. Anyone who his even a little familiar with these men knows the kind of action they can expect. The bitter part of this match is bitter indeed, the reason this match was even taking place was because the former tag team champions the ever popular Riegal Twins were forced to vacate the tag title due to serious injury suffered Logan Riegal which happed just a few weeks prior as they were making their west coast debut in California. As a special treat a few diehard/loyal fans mainly the wonderful Clawson Family put together an oversized get well soon card for everyone at the show to sign. By the time you read this Logan will have surely read it. It was truly a touching and heart felt gesture by everyone including all the guys in the back in hopes of lifting their spirts through this difficult time. This will surely only help get Logan and Sterling back in action sooner rather than later. As for the match it was nothing short of amazing. To many people’s surprise, Williams and Jones where matching High Level Enterprise move for move, even hitting an impressive and well-timed double stop. Even with that, they were struggling to close out Jack and Jon so an equalizer in the form of one for the vacated tag belts was introduced to Gamble’s head by AJ Williams without the ref looking and that’s all she wrote.

Williams and Jones celebrated as the new tag team champions of HRW.

(3-way to crown the first ever #HWR Mayhem Champion: Outlaw vs Shizuka vs Hawkins) (Match time: 14:00)

All men came out firing on all cylinders, to say the least. Hawkins was especially hot coming off the top once again this time with a senton. There was no shortage of underhanded tricks in this match considering that Outlaw was once again joined at ring side by ½ of the legendry Midnight Express “The Beautiful” Bobby Eaton. Shizuka as always did his best to take advantage of the situation by teaming with Outlaw for a short time to double team Hawkins but even that was short-lived, as Outlaw quickly turned on him in return. In the end, it paid off as Mike Outlaw came away with the win and the brand new High Risk Wrestling Mayhem Champion! Truly a crazy conclusion to an incredible night of wrestling.

(What’s next?)
“There goes the Neighborhood” on Saturday, August 6th at 6pm CT in the Warsaw Community building in Warsaw, Missouri! The card has yet to be fully released but as of right now what we know is that the well-traveled champion Mike Sydal, fresh off a successful trip to Japan, will defend this HRW title vs “Tornado” Tony Kozina! Also, the “Freestyle Phenom” Jay Howard will take on a full blooded Italian of sorts by the name of Karim Brigante accompanied by Miss Monica Passeri. We have yet another match announcement for our 2 Year Birthday Bash!

At our last Event, A. J. Williams and Da’Marius Jones defeated High Level Enterprise to capture The HRW Tag Team Championship!

However, they did not win in a Sportsman like manner as A. J. used one of the Tag Belts as a weapon to secure the win.

HRW does not believe in stripping a Championship when something like this happens, instead we would normally just give the team who was done wrong a rematch so they can extract their own brand of justice! Unfortunately HLE will not be able to appear on August 6th, so I had another idea. I will not strip them, instead I will give the New Champs a Tough challenge against a deserving, debuting team!

These two High Risk Athletes are coming all the way from Texas to thrill the HRW fans like they have been doing everywhere they go!

They are known as BB & J (Bam Bam Malone and Jaxon Stone) and they wanted me to let the HRW fans know that are are excited to Wrestle for you and are dedicating this match to you, the HRW faithful!

Another match signed is a rematch of sorts as these two High Risk Athletes faced off in a 3 Way Mayhem Match at our April 23rd Event.

However this time it will be one on one in what is sure to be an explosive match!

Karim Brigante w/ Monica Passeri VS “The Freestyle Phenom” Jay Howard

Also signed for this Huge Event is a Championship match pitting the Champion against the Number One Contender as determined at our last Event!

This match pits two experienced, well traveled and well rounded Athletes against each other in what could very well be a Classic in the making!

Mike Sydal Electrifies the Fans in Japan’s Dragon Gate

Mike Sydal continues to be one of the hottest wrestlers in the world. The first half of the 2016 have seen him pick up some huge wins including winning the High Risk Wrestling Championship. Since that time he has made his return overseas to Korea and Japan to improve his skills by training at the Dragon Gate Dojo while taking on the best in the world.

The HRW High Risk Champion, “The Yoga Monster” Mike Sydal recently had his first successful title defense in Korea for Pro Wrestling Fit!

Our correspondents in Japan reported to MWR that Sydal was involved in a spectacular match at Kourakuen Hall (famous wrestling venue in Tokyo) as he teamed up with Ryo Saito, and Genki Horiguchi to defeated Kenichiro Arai, Jimmy Kanda, and J.K.S.

While the fans in the USA are excited about to hear about the success of Sydal, we have also been receiving fan mail asking when Sydal will return to the Midwest. Sydal will be back in action at Metro Pro Wrestling on July 30th in Kansas City, Kansas as he looks to add the Metro Pro Wrestling Championship to his resume.

Sydal then returns HRW in Warsaw on August 6, and Metro Pro Wrestling at the huge August 26 event.
