The MWR Families thoughts and prayers go out to Mickey Garagolia

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 19, 2010

Back in the saddle one more time were ST Louis Hall of Fame members Larry Matysik and Mickey Garagolia last month at MMWA-SICW (Photo Credit Mike Van Hioogstraat)

Everyone here at Missouri Wrestling Revival would like to send out our thoughts and prayers to the pro wrestling ring announcer and commentator Mickey Garagolia and we all hope for a speedy recovery who at the time is in the hospital.

Mickey’s brother Joe was a beloved figure in the St Louis community for his time playing for the ST Louis Cardinals while becoming a World Series Champion in 1946 defeating the Boston Red Sox. When his career was through he became the first play by play announcer for Wrestling at the Chase along side Larry Matysik .

Mickey would join his brother to work with Sam Muchnick as a ring announcer and commentary while becoming an important piece in the puzzle of why St Louis was the standard of Pro Wrestling for so many years.

Throughout the years Wrestling at the Chase was the third most watched show in St louis trailing only local news and the ST Louis Cardinals Baseball games.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Garagolia name was  important to the success of wrestling at the time, due to the fact that so many people respected baseball that when Joe and Mickey were involved in wrestling it brought positive attention to sport from a town that will always be proud to be considered a baseball town .

In 2007 the St Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame inducted Mickey in the Hall of Fame along with greats such as Penny Banner, Lou Thesz, Harley Race, Larry Matysik, Gene Kiniski, King Kong Brody, Dick the Bruiser, Ric Flair, Bill Longson, Sam Muchnick, Pat O’ Conner, Joe Schoenberger, Johnny Valentine, and Fritz Von Erich.

Most recently Mickey was on hand at MMWA-SICW in East Carondelet to help celebrate 51 Years of Wrestling at the Chase with friends Herb Simmons and Larry Matysik.

Once again we wish one of Pro wrestling’s great supporters the best and hope to see him at a show real soon.

Dubi meets the IHW Fans June 2010

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 29, 2010

By Dubray Tallman

We are back with another edition of Dubi Meets the fans, last time we were in Des Moines Iowa for 3XW and for this one we had to travel through Missouri to Illinois to make our way to Dupo for Independent Hardcore Wrestling.

IHW has been red hot in 2010 with some large crowds that have been very energetic, in fact the size of the crowd have got so large that they are going to need to find a new building to hold all the fans. This night would be no different as IHW was filled with a great mix of talent including a non-title rematch between IHW Champion Brandon Aarons taking on the self proclaim greatest wrestler ever from Illinois, the current IHW Illinois Champion Eric Allen, the ultra talented Bailey Mannix met Tony Kozina while Mr. Late Nite caused chaos and Evan Money, Steven Kennedy, Billy McNeil and Sean Vincent went toe to toe to become the 2ND Annual IHW ST Louis Invitational Tournament Champion that Aarons had won last year. This year the hated Sean Vincent would take home the bragging rights.

Everywhere we go Brian and I have a ton of friends and with so many promotions in St Louis it is only magnified which makes going to the shows a ton of fun. Brian had spoken to our friends Jonathan Jones and his wife Lena on the way to the show to find out if they were going to make it to the show but one of their children was in the Hospital so he was unsure of what time they could make it.

Prior to the show started I ran into the people from Iconsofwrestling who have the wonderful Gods of Wrestling painting with so many old and new stars filling this must see painting. This was the first time that I had seen this and I have to say it was a sight to see. I went in to get Brian to let him know that the artist Icon, Ed Schultz and Dotty Mattis were there. While we sat outside talking fans where coming by to check out this masterpiece. Brian mentioned to them that they should contact both Metro Pro and Larry Barber about showing off the poster in Kansas. He also stated that this summer’s big Wrestling Hall of Fame ceremonies in Iowa was about to happen and would be a golden opportunity to share the art with many people that love Wrestling. They are really hard at work promoting this one of a kind piece and was on their way to do double duty that night as they were off to meet our good friend Herb Simmons at MMWA-SICW. If you would like to check out the Gods of Thunder click here.

Before I knew it the doors had open and the crowd filled the building waiting for some great wrestling action. Brian was busy proudly showing off the new MWR Trading card that Mephisto had done which went over well with everyone. The next day he was to announce that Tyler Black would be the 10th card but was keeping it a secret till he posted it on the site. I know if Brian won the lottery he would just make a card for everyone but though expense of making one is reasonable making several can become expensive , so for the time being he is unable to make as many as he would like. If you would are a wrestler, Manager/Valet or referee and would like to have an awesome collectable for you to sell or have I highly recommend that you contact Brian on the details. Already in the set are Santana G, Mark Sterling, MsChif Kahagas, and Mike Sydal. Likewise if you are a business or wrestling school and would like to sponsor a wrestler with your business logo on the card feel free to ask how. Personally I don’t think that it will be complete until there is a Derek Stone and Dubi card.

It seems as if everyone was excited to be a part of Dubi meets the fans so it is getting easier to find people to want to be a part of it. This night wrestling Superfan Erica Jones was joined with her sister Michelle brought birthday boy Joshua Jackson who had just turned 7th and little man Ellies. A great way to celebrate your birthday is at a wrestling show. They were all big fans of Mephisto who happily took the time to take a picture.

Joshua and Ellies with Mephisto (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Young Braden Pulcher was at IHW for the first time so I let him watch the matches to decide which IHW Star he would take his picture with. Not surprisingly he chose the charismatic “The Kid” Evan Money to have his picture with. Money was successful in the first round Jordan McEntyre in an exciting match and during the intermission posed with his new fan.

Braden Pulcher and Evan Money (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Next up was one of the most  hardcore  wrestling fans in the area Andrew Adams otherwise known as the “Firefighter”. Andrew choose Brandon Aarons at first but when he saw that I took Mickie Knuckles as my picture he changed his mind and we were more than happy to have give him his wish with the hardcore beauty.

“The Firefighter” Andrew Adams and Mickie Knuckles (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Dupo is Mephisto territory and he would be picked once again. This time Kolby Stephens wanted his picture taken with him as well. Mephisto fans would were happy to see him team up with Justin Wade to defeat MR Late Nites men Brandon Graves and Cable. The loss would lead to MR Late Nite firing Cabal while Graves and The Perfect Weapon Morbid attacking their former partner.

Kolby Stephens and Mephisto (Photo Credit Brian Kelley )

Dennis Corderant the winner of the MWR T-shirt that was thrown by superstar Adam Rich, gets to pose with the rising star (Photo Credit Brian Kelley )

The Wrestler of the night who would throw a MWR Shirt to one lucky fan turned out to be young Adam Rich. Rich was returning to the ring after a short absence and would have his hands full with the hated Canadian in the first round of the STL Tournament. Young Dennis Corderant would be the lucky fan that caught the MWR Shirt. Later in the night Rich took the time to have his picture taken with the young fan.

As I mentioned before I always try to choose a picture with a star as well though sometimes I get so busy I do not get it done. I have always been impressed with Mickie Knuckles and she happily posed with me prior to her match with Mia Martinez. Mickie is one tough girl.

Dubray Tallman and Mickie Knuckles (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

As far as Jonathan, him and Lena would not make it till the main event match with Brandon Aarrons and Eric Allen match. They were so impressed that they purchased tickets for IHW’S return to Dupo on July 24th.

MWR Fans thank you for taking the time to read this article. In the near future look for Dubi meets the Fans at Pro Wrestling Epic from Mt Pulaski Illinois and if all goes as planned we will make our long waited debut at New Midwest Wrestling in Springfield Illinois for their show Boiling Point. Keep an eye out for my special interview with Blake Steel as he goes after the NMW Title currently held by Jonathan Magnus.

Till next time fans, support your local wrestling. I hope to see you at a show real soon.

Love Dubz

MMWA-SICW returns to East Carondelet on Saturday June 19th to celebrate both Fathers Day and their 51 year anniversary of Wrestling at the Chase first aired in May of 1959. Last year they had the great Harley Race in attendance along with Gene Kiniski and Baron Von Raschke via telephone talking to the packed house.

This years event in sponsored by Premier & Firestop Company who is bringing to you two explosive main events worthy of the occasion. General Manager Sean Walsh will be on hand with all his union friends to cheer on Ron Powers as he and Danny Boy have an all out war against Gary Jackson and Waco. Premier Insulation & Firestop have purchased ads on the radio and local newspaper’s including the Labor Tribune inviting all their union brothers and sister to join them in East Carondelet on Saturday June 19th at 8pm. Sean grew up watching Wrestling at the chase and felt like he wanted to help support a local wrestling show that gives back to their community.

This is the match that we have all been waiting for. Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 29, 2010

Brian Kelley and Ric Flair

By Brian Kelley

At Total Nonstop Wrestling’s fan interaction at the Ameristar Casino in ST Charles Missouri on April 17th. During the festivities that included a meet and greet with some of the top pro wrestling stars in the world today. Nick Ridenour and I presented wrestling greats Ric Flair, Dory Funk JR, Bobby “The Brain Heenan” and Baron Von Raschke with their St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame Plaques.

The St Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame can be seen at the Historic South Broadway Athletic Club in St Louis Mo 7th & Shenndoa. Fan that would like to check out the next wrestling show will be on May 8th at 7 pm.

The ST Louis Wrestling Hall of fame was opened in 2007 by former owner and promoter of the St. Louis Wrestling Club Larry Matysik. He has been joined by directors promoters Tony Costas Herb Simmons, webmaster Mitch Martsey, sports journalist Keith Schildroth, and longtime fan Nick Ridenour. Although these directors oversee the selection process, the St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame is unique because it is the only wrestling hall of fame that allows fans to vote for potential inductees

Missouri Wrestling Revival covers Total Nonstop Wrestling’s Lockdown weekend.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 25, 2010

Total Nonstop Wrestling returned to ST Louis with their PPV Lockdown on April 18th in ST Charles Family Arena with the highlight being the night before at the TNA Fan interaction.

I had attended the first St Louis’s TNA Lockdown and though I felt as if the fan interaction was worth it, the PPV had been a disappointment in my opinion. I must confess I enjoy attending independent wrestling over going too today’s “Big Two”.

The selling point for me was the fact that they were including a “Legends Main Event” in this Fan Interaction with three of the biggest stars to ever grace the sport Hulk Hogan, Sting and my personal favorite “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair at the end of the night with a bonus of having two of the most influential Managers in Pro Wrestling “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart and Bobby “The Brain” Hennan along with one of the greatest wrestlers to grace the sport Dory Funk JR. and “The Clawmaster” Baron Von Raschke.

Some great times was to be had throughout the weekend as we caught up with some old friends and met some new ones. If the TNA wrestlers were on a grading system for their treatment of the fans I would have to give them an impressive A+. Some could complain that the lines took a lot of time to get through but one of the big reasons was the wrestlers were so friendly and took the time to meet the fans. Making the experience that much more enjoyable.

When the time was up for “The Band” Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan and many of the fans had yet to get their autograph or picture they each let TNA know that they were not going to leave until everyone had received what they were promised.

Thanks to my friends at the St Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame I was asked to present Dory Funk Jr, Bobby Hennan and Baron Von Raschke along with my friend Nick Ridenour with their Hall of fame Plaques during the fan interaction. I was so pumped up about it I could barley calm down; in fact I am still hyped up about it four days later. Regardless it will be forever in my top ten moments of my life as latter I would also be a part giving my favorite wrestler of All-Time Ric Flair his plaque.

Words can’t give justice to my appreciation to Nick, Herb Simmons, Larry Matysik, Tony Costa webmaster Mitch Martsey, sports journalist Keith Schildroth, and  the rest of the crew at the ST Louis Hall of Fame for having me a part of this historic occasion.

Look for video of both the ST Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame and Pro Wrestling Illustrated in the near future at MWR.

If you would like to check out the ST Louis Hall of Fame your next chance will be on May 8th at the South Broadway Athletic Club. For more information on the ST Louis Hall of Fame check out their myspace here.

After we were done giving the ST Louis Hall of Fame plaques Jeff Ruoss from Pro Wrestling Illiustrated presented the Legends with plaques from everyone’s favorite wrestling publication.

The PPV Would be solid and most importantly a LOT of fun. During the evening Kurt Angle showed why he is in my mind the best wrestler since Ric Flair when he and Ken Anderson tore down the house. Team 3D was on fire and ST Louis fans proved that it is truly Flair country when he was asked to leave by the ref  prior to the AJ Styles – D’Angelo Dinero the fans chanted “We want Flair” chants. Jeff Hardy would show why he is one of the most fearless (or crazy) wrestlers to ever grace the sport during the main event giving Team Hogan a huge advantage over Team Flair.

My girlfriend Dubray had no clue who Rob Van Dam was on Friday evening but by Sunday she was into putting her hands behind her back as RVD’S Music was on chanting ROB-VAN-DAM proving just how over with the fans he is.

TNA would wisely give RVD the chance for the TNA Title the next night on Spike and he would go on to defeat AJ Styles for his first ever TNA World Championship. Some may argue that they gave away a PPV Match on free TV but my opinion is such that RVD can have a full year of PPV matches with just about anyone on the roster including a rematch with the very talented AJ Styles .This weekend and his win will hopefully be the direction that TNA is headed.

I would run into local wrestling talents Chris Havius, Shorty Biggs, Kiwi Jello and Dorian Victor . Local Promoters Herb Simmons and TNT Keny G was in the house while the legends made their appearance during the TNA Title match between Styles and Pope.

In this weekend blast you will see the pictures of the TNA After party hosted by Mike Gordon at Side Pockets in St Charles. Surprise guest were Ken Anderson, James Storm, Chris Sabin and Brian Kendrick. Anderson and Strom was their when I entered the building and was busy signing autographs and taking pictures with fans while being with their respective friends and family. Their patience and kindness with the fans made me fans of the two of them for life. Sabin and Kendrick came later and was just as polite. With a 12:00 closing time on Sunday and the TNA Stars less than 24 hours from having to be in Florida for TNA Impact that made their kindness that much more special.

Once again it was great hanging with old friends during the weekend like Drew and Gary, Chuck and Dave along with new friends Shawn and his girlfriend , Kyle and the Awesome Bomb Radio team just to name a few. A big thanks you to TNA’ and  Bob Ryder for his kindness as well.

I hope you enjoy this exclusive look at TNA Lockdown weekend at MWR.

MWR presents MMWA-SICW with the 2009 MWR Promotion of the Year plaque.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 12, 2010

On April 3r at a packed house at the South Broadway Athletic Club myself , Head write Kari Williams and fan relations Dubray Tallman was in the middle of the ring with Promoter Tony Costa and Tim Miller with the 2009 MWR Promotion of the Year.

The Promotion of the Year is always the most debated among the MWR Awards committee due to the fact there are so many good promotions running today.

In 2009 MMWA-SICW continued to be one of the top drawing shows in the Midwest. They ran over 30 shows while celebrating their 50 Years at Chase that received a full spread in the St Louis Dispatch did a complete and separate spread on 50 years at the Chase with the old stars such Harley Race, Johnny Valentine, Jack Brisco and new stars in Gary Jackson, the Lumberjacks, Dave Vaughn and more.

The MMWA-SICW was also active in work with the community. Announcer and Executive Director Tim Miller had been instrumental with giving back. MMWA-SICW lent a helping hand in the benefit the family of fallen police officer Julius Moore who was killed due to the result of injuries sustained during an on-duty vehicle accident on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. He was 23 years old. The event raised more than $2200 through food sales alone to benefit Police Officer Julius Moore’s family including his three young children, two sons and a daughter all under the age of 5. The event was covered by the press and over 2,000 people showed up to support the cause.

In 2009 MMWA-SICW have given the fans a chance to meet the stars of wrestling by having Harley race, Dave Hebner, Bob Hardcore Holly, Larry Matysik ,Mickey Garagioloa and most recently the wild popular Baron Von Raschke.

These were just a few of the reason why they were chosen as the MWR Promotion of the year.

Once again we would like to thank MMWA-SICW for their hospitality and I highly recommend that you check out them in 2010.

On a personal note I was very excited to be invited up the commentating booth by Herb Simmons during the title match between Champion Dave Vaughn and Phil E Blunt. I was nervous up till I left the booth so I can’t be honest on how well i did but it was truly a great time .

Look for MWR at a local show near you in 2010.
