Tony Kozina takes on NWA WORLD Jr. Heavyweight Champion Craig Classic at NWA Supreme on Febuary 5th. Who is Craig Classic?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 19, 2011

We know very well who Tony Kozina is in the Midwest. Kozina is a man who is able to deliver a four star match night in and night out. We have seen proof of that in every match he has been in this past year.

A former NWA JR Champion himself, we were thrilled to have Kozina take part of our MWR Trading card set that is filled with many of the top stars in the world of pro wrestling today.

You can catch Kozina in action when he will be given another chance at the Championship during NWA Supreme’s Night of Champions the first of next month.

Who is currently the champ?      Craig Classic.

You may ask yourself who Craig Classic is but thanks to Norine Stice at Carnage Chronicles we are able to find out that one of the best is about to set foot in the Midwest.

10 Questions With…Craig Classic

By Norine Stice

Recently someone asked me how much I knew about Craig Classic. I knew the name, I’d watched a match or two of his on YouTube, but as far as how he got to where he is now, I had no clue. It was time to ask questions. I tracked down Craig, current holder of not one but two title belts, and requested an interview. He took time out of his busy schedule to comply and here he is…

1). How did you decide on the ring name of Craig Classic?

Response: I was training in Japan with head trainer in the BJW dojo named Daisuke Sekimoto. And he said that I am a classic wrestler with my style. So I decided to use it. Since it is a style I enjoy.

2. What or who influenced you to make the decision to become a professional wrestler?

Response: Biggest influence for me was Dynamite Kid, and all the Jr stars from the early 90’s in Japan. Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Jushin Liger, etc

3. Where did you receive your wrestling training and when did you make your official debut?

For the rest of the 10 questions from Norine to Craig Classic click here.

Matt Murphy’s The Somebody Obsession: A Nobody’s Desperate Journey to Stardom is released

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 16, 2011

MWR fans and wrestlers you have enjoyed Matt Murphy’s great mind for the business here in the past and have been clamoring for more.

The wait is over as Murphy’s new book The Somebody Obsession: A Nobody’s Desperate Journey to Stardom. is now for sale at Amazon

For the low low price of $12.95 you can pick up the must read book of 2011 by clicking here..

Then when you are done please take the time to leave a review of the Book at Amazon.

Many stars have shared their success stories in the crowded genre of professional wrestling autobiographies. But for every star there are a hundred also-rans, those of us who fell short of our dreams. We, too, have a story to tell. In my autobiography, THE SOMEBODY OBSESSION: A NOBODY’S DESPERATE JOURNEY TO STARDOM, I reveal how I overcame an impoverished, troubled childhood to live my lifelong dream of becoming a professional wrestler. I had to succeed; failure meant damnation back into the white-trash hell from which I came.

While self-medicating the scars of my tormented youth with sex, booze, and wrestling, I reached for the stars and could feel them at my fingertips before my amazing ride crashed to an abrupt end. My story is THE BULLPEN GOSPELS meets I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER IN HELL. Funny and poignant, it is an inspirational and cautionary tale for anyone who dares to dream. It is about overcoming challenges and shows that the dreamer’s biggest obstacle is often the one that stares back at him in the mirror. – Matt Murphy

“A heck of a story about the less glamorous side of the wrestling business.” – Mike Mooneyham, author of SEX, LIES, AND HEADLOCKS

“This book is more addicting with each chapter. You don’t need to be a wrestling fan to enjoy it.” – Jason King, Yahoo! Sports

About the Author
Matt Murphy was the first graduate of the Harley Race Wrestling Academy and later became the lead instructor at the professional wrestling school. A respected former independent wrestler with experience in Pro-Wrestling NOAH and WWE rings, he also worked as the producer, play-by-play announcer, and editor of a weekly wrestling TV show. Murphy is the author of THE PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER IN THE WORLD OF SPORTS-ENTERTAINMENT (2008) and THE SOMEBODY OBSESSION: A NOBODY’S DESPERATE JOURNEY TO STARDOM (2011) and is a contributing writer for Missouri Wrestling Revival. He lives in Missouri with his wife and son and finds it awkward to write his own author’s bio in third-person.

PWP Year of the Phoenix VI – January 15, 2011

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 14, 2011

Photobucket

Ladies & Gentlemen, December 19th marked the one year anniversary of “Babyface” Tony Cortez’ second PWP Heavyweight Championship reign. PWP Officials have decided to shake things up a bit and see what happens. PWP is proud to announce an 8 man invitational tournament on January 15, 2011 for Year Of The Phoenix VI! PWP Officials had a tough time deciding who should be included, so the first 7 to respond to our open invitation were included in the tournament. Tony Cortez was automatically entered into the tournament, and any time he wrestles, the title WILL BE ON THE LINE! This means that any one of these men could leave the building that night as PWP Champion! Now, to announce our participants!

“Babyface” Tony Cortez
“The Icon of PWP” has to outlast seven other men if he wants to leave the night as PWP Heavyweight Champion! Does he have what it takes? Remember even in round 1, the title is on the line! This will be a true test of endurance, strength and heart for the proud champion.

Abu Colossus
“The Big Hurt” had a HUGE victory in the main event of the November event defeating Preston Maxwell in a Last Man Standing match. Abu has held the title once before, and he eagerly accepted a spot in this tournament and proclaimed that he would hold the strap again at the end of the night.

#1 Brett Young
Former Phoenix Challenge winner and multi-time PWP Tag Team Champion #1 Brett Young has entered the tournament and realizes that this is a great opportunity to, as he put it “take that PWP Championship and put it where it belongs, strapped around my waist!”

“The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt
Another former PWP Heavyweight Champion, Jeremy Wyatt is looking to re-ascend to the very top of PWP and everyone knows he has the tools to bring the belt home with him. Will his confidence and his pure athletic ability help him overcome the other seven competitors looking to do the same thing?

Matty Star
Matty Star has risen to the top in PWP over the last year and he was so close to the title he could taste it a few months ago during his Championship match with Tony Cortez. Now, he’s looking to prove to himself, to the entire roster and to the fans that he is the #1 competitor in PWP.

Preston Maxwell
Although he did take a loss in November from the hands of Abu Colossus, Preston Maxwell was more than happy to accept this invitation, saying, “I don’t care who you put in front of me. Line them up and I WILL choke them out!” This is Maxwell’s first opportunity for gold in PWP and it would be safe to bet that he will be on his A-Game.

Derek Cornell
This invitation went out to many PWP roster members and the first seven to answer the call were put in the tournament. Derek Cornell was one of them! One half of the Beautiful Bodies, Cornell may have an advantage in this tournament since many of the other competitors are unfamiliar with him. Can he pull off the huge upset and take home the Championship?

Zach Thompson
Another dark horse contender in this tournament, as well as a relatively new member of the active PWP Roster, Thompson has entered his name in the hat and is looking to prove to all the PWP fans why he belongs here! Thompson commented, “What better way to show all these idiots why I’m better than them by taking home their beloved PWP Heavyweight Title!”

ALSO:

PWP Tag Team Champions
Zac James & Ryan Slade will be in attendance at the event where the PWP Tag Team Championship debuted, and they will be defending the titles!

Also appearing: Joey Daniels, David Clark, “The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell & More!
