Pro Wrestling Phoenix Live 2015 Mid-Year Report

2015 has been a wild ride for PWP Live, seeing all sorts of amazing matches and rivalries. We kicked things off with our Year of the Phoenix 10 event in January, featuring an exciting match between former WWE Superstar Bob “Hardcore” Holly and a man who competes all over the MWR coverage area, “Showtime” Bradley Charles!

 photo Match 6__ 110_zpsrlwq1vzo.jpg

Also, Darren “Thunder” Russell successfully defended the PWP Championship against Branden Juarez in a Street Fight!
 photo Match 7__ 45_zpsinyvyjyh.jpg

After the match, Abu Colossus brutally attacked Russell and demanded he put the title on the line. Russell, never one to back down from a fight, did just that, but Abu was too much and was able to become the 18th PWP Champion.

 photo Match 6_ 21_zpssstsu3yt.jpg

Russell looked to get a rematch for the PWP Championship but was sidelined by Chainsaw King, whom he had a series of matches with throughout spring, culminating with a dangerous Dog Collar Match at our Chained Chaos event in April.

 photo _MRG0821_zpsyguerdg9.jpg

Russell was victorious, sending King back into the shadows.

 photo Match 3_ 95_zpsv6gskoou.jpg

In March, we started a tournament to crown the first ever PWP Rising Phoenix Champion. It came down to “ Chainsaw King and “The Greece Pit” member L-Ray w/ “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece. At our 10th Anniversary Spectacular event in May, L-Ray was able to cheat his way to victory and become the first man to hold that title.
 photo Match 6_ 119_zpsrqx5ctpc.jpg

That night was full of amazing moments, as former WWE Superstar Scotty 2 Hotty went one on one with “The Greece Pit” Member Joey Daniels w/ “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece. Greece ran his mouth a little too much and ended up on the receiving end of The Worm!

“Babyface” Tony Cortez became the first man in history to win two PWP Championships on the same night, as he was victorious earlier in the night in a Triple Threat Match for the PWP Championship that included Abu Colossus & Darren “Thunder” Russell.
 photo Match 4_ 112_zpsrdd1h42z.jpg

Then in the main event, “Simply the Best”, which is the team of Cortez & Hype Gotti, defeated Jeremy Wyatt & Mark Sterling in a brutal Ladder Match to end their year long reign as PWP Tag Team Champions.
 photo Match 7_ 81_zpsbv8ovkvd.jpg

 photo Match 7_ 300_zpsrtlap5e9.jpg

The results of that match led Wyatt to challenge Hype Gotti to a Loser Leaves PWP match, and it all went down at our July event. Years of rivalry would come to a close as both men put everything they had on the line. Wyatt thought he had the match won, but with Hype’s foot on the rope, the match was ordered to continue, and in the end, Hype Gotti ended the career of Jeremy Wyatt at PWP Live!

With big superstars popping up left and right, and 3 Championships available for competition, PWP Live events have never been more exciting! Most of our events are available on DVD via our website, however nothing matches the experience LIVE at one of our events! Monthly events are held at the National Guard Armory in Council Bluffs Iowa, and we just announced our expansion into Nebraska as well with events held at The Waiting Room Lounge in Omaha.

Keep up to date with PWP at our website http://www.PWPLive.net, like us on Facebook at http://www.Facebook.com/PWPLive, follow us on Twitter @PWPLive, and check out our Youtube at http://www.YouTube.com/PWPWrestling ! 2015 has been hot and it’s only getting hotter!

“MR. G” – Gary Giaffoglione & “BabyFace” Tony Cortez to be inducted in the PWP Hall of Fame on May 23rd

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 14, 2015

Editors Note: It was with great pleasure that I received the information that PWP in Council Bluffs, Iowa was preparing to launch their first ever PWP Hall of fame inductees. I will admit that the first man to be inducted is a dear personal friend of mine, Gary Giaffoglione. Gary has been the official PWP photographer for the past 10 years capturing the awesome action in the ring, as well as offering his talents to the wrestlers for promo shots. posters and so much more.

It is no secret to anyone that I cherish the friendships that we have made with MWR in the lovely state of Iowa. Gary, was one of those that I quickly became friends with on that first trip to PWP. In those early years, Gary was instrumental in helping me discover how to properly use a camera, as we also shared stories of our families and life in general.

People may question, why put a man in that just takes a photo? In this crazy world of pro wrestling, you will find that when the good times are happening, everyone is there for you. Yet, to find someone that will be there for you when the times are not so bright, then you have a true friend. During my years at MWR, I have found that to be true at every promotion I have covered, at times they had huge crowds, other times there may have been less than 20 paid in the house. Regardless of the size of the crowd, Gary has been a positive influence within PWP, offering his talents, as well as top notch equipment, while sharing that wonderful smile and attitude around the ring for the past 10 years.

In my mind, he is one of the best photographers in the country. Congrats Gary.

The second man to be entered into the Hall of Fame, is another man that is well deserved of this achievement is none other than “Baby Face” Tony Cortez. Cortez has thrilled fans in the ring with his charismatic personality and never say die attitude. It has always been a pleasure covering him in the ring as a photographer, because of his ability to sell with some great expressions. At Pro Wrestling Phoenix he has been a rock, capturing tag team gold and PWP Heavyweight Championship in the past. In the past he has always been great to work with and one of the top guys on on the mic. In fact one of his promos that he did for MWR with his partner Hype Gotti happen to be among my favorites that we ever did for the site as well as one of the very first MWR promos we ever did in 2008.

Congrats to Cortez for this much deserved honor.

From the offices of PWP

Ok fans, here we go – it’s time to announce the 2 individuals who will be inducted into the very 1st PWP Hall of Fame class, on Saturday May 23rd!!

 photo 11167808_1623981834481994_3565670829190968373_n_zpsthak69d3.jpg

First, one of the hardest working, most loyal, unsung heroes in PWP history. “MR. G” – GARY GIAFFOGLIONE. When we decided to create a Hall of Fame, it was agreed that we would not only honor competitors, but those who have helped make PWP what it is over the last 10 years. Gary is one of those people. He is much more than just an incredible photographer – he’s a beloved member of the PWP family, and nobody deserves this honor more.

Secondly, one of the most decorated, talented, and successful stars in PWP history.
 photo Match 5__ 72_zpsgvm0vdap.jpg

“BABYFACE” TONY CORTEZ!! Tony held the PWP Championship for more than THREE YEARS, combined over 2 reigns. A former PWP Tag Team Champion as well – nobody encompasses the word “champion” more in PWP history than Tony Cortez. As we head to the 10th Anniversary Spectacular on May 23rd – Cortez has shots at both the PWP Championship and Tag Team Championship once again. In theory, Cortez could leave on May 23rd as PWP Champion, 1/2 of the PWP Tag Team Champions, and PWP Hall of Famer! Cortez will be inducted into the Hall of Fame by his long time partner, HYPE GOTTI.

The 2015 PWP Hall of Fame inductions will be exclusive to VIP ticket holders.

Just $15 – VIP Tickets get you:

Pro Wrestling Phoenix Feb 28th in Council Bluffs, Abu Colossus vs “Babyface” Tony Cortez

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 20, 2015

 photo pwpddddd_zpsllf8tk7z.jpg

Wrestling fans, 2015 started off hotter than ever for PWP, with major developments at our annual Year of the Phoenix event. Now, we move forward to February 28th, with huge matches taking place! Let’s see what’s in store!

PWP Heavyweight Championship:
Abu Colossus Vs. “Babyface” Tony Cortez

Tony Cortez returned to PWP at last year’s Anniversary Spectacular, and has been on a tear ever since. In January he defeated Ryan Slade in another fantastic match, and later in the night he explained that it was time to fight for the PWP Heavyweight Championship one more time, and he had already signed a contract to face the champion on February 28th. No one could have predicted how the night would unfold however, and after defeating Branden Juarez, Darren “Thunder” Russell was attacked and challenged by Abu Colossus! After some controversial decisions, Colossus became the PWP Heavyweight Champion for the first time since 2008! Now these two PWP Icons will clash in the main event on February 28th in what is sure to be a classic bout. But can Babyface become a 3 time PWP Heavyweight Champion? Or will Abu continue to show the total brutality we have seen as of late, and leave the building with the title once more? You don’t want to miss this one!

PWP Tag Team Championship:
Jeremy Wyatt & Mark Sterling Vs. “The Beautiful Bodies” Derek Cornell & Brian Gott

Jeremy Wyatt & Mark Sterling have had a stranglehold on the PWP tag team division for almost a year now. Any team put in front of them has been defeated. Their tactics used to win are often questionable, but their level of in ring ability and talent cannot be denied. However, if any team has what it takes to defeat them, it is certainly “The Beautiful Bodies”. Brian Gott made his official return to PWP last month, and reformed one of the most popular tag teams in PWP history. Now Gott, along with Derek Cornell, vie for the titles in a rematch. But to defeat Wyatt & Sterling means not only out-wrestling them but out-smarting them as well. Can it be done? Be there February 28th to find out!

What’s Next For Darren “Thunder” Russell?

Darren “Thunder’ Russell defeated Branden Juarez in a vicious Street Fight in January, capping off their rivalry, and proving he is a worthy PWP Heavyweight Champion. When Abu Colossus attacked him and demanded he put the title on the line in an impromptu match, Russell simply had too much pride to say no, despite the brutal match he had just endured. The referee rang the bell, and moments later, Russell was without his title for the first time since last August. Many have questioned his decision, and Russell has stayed quiet for the most part. He has however, notified PWP officials that on February 28th, he plans to address Abu Colossus, the controversy surrounding the title, and the PWP fans. Don’t miss out on what Russell has to say!

“Simply Ravishing” Ryan Slade & “The Greece Pit”

Back in December, L-Ray & Ryan Slade were involved in a match that had opportunities to face the PWP Heavyweight Champion. Neither man won, but since that match, “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece has held Slade responsible for L-Ray’s loss, and after Slade helped “The Karaoke King” Purple & Dalton Lee Roth get a win over “The Greece Pit” in January, the Pit laid a beating into Slade after his match. Slade’s motto as of late is “Hakuna Matata”, but Axel Greece has vowed that after what he has in store for Slade on February 28th, he will have much to worry about!

“Showtime” Bradley Charles’ Next Move

Bradley Charles was sure he was going to defeat Hardcore Holly in January. After the loss he seemed devastated. He planned on using that win as a catalyst to superstardom. So what’s next for SBC? The former PWP Heavyweight Champion has vowed to make it back to the top and contend for the title once again.

Also appearing: Branden Juarez, “The Passion” Zac James, Dalton Lee Roth, “The Karaoke King” Purple, Mad Dog McDowell, and more!!

“Babyface” Tony Cortez and NWA World Champion Adam Pearce have a shootout at Magnum Pro Wrestling!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 9, 2012

By Brian Kelley

Less than 24 hours after Adam Pearce survived an onslaught from “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt at 3XWrestling in Des Moines, the NWA Worlds Champion made his way to Council Bluffs, Iowa for Magnum Pro Wrestling.

His opponent was hometown favorite “Babyface “ Tony Cortez, a man who has been in battles with many of the best in the Midwest. Cortez’s moment that he has been waiting for his whole life had come to that very moment on January 28th, the chance to prove that he was among the very best in the world.

From the moment the doors open you could feel the electricity spark from wall to wall, with the ring being the spark that got it going. World titles opportunity chances come to wrestlers very few if ever in a wrestler’s career.

In the past Cortez has succeeded and survived an epic war games steel cage match, defeated former friend Jayden Draigo, captured wins against the hottest stars of wrestling like Mike Sydal and “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon.

Champions have had to beware of the feisty Cortez as he has defeated Hype Gotti and Golden Boy” Vic Victory thus making him the only man to be a two time PWP Champion. Cortez has also won the PWP tag team championship with the before mentioned Gottie (Simply the Best) in a classic as MWR sponsored the PWP Tag team title match between the Northstar Express (Darin Corbin and Ryan Cruz) on November 21st, 2008.

As we walked into the building that night, we had to wonder just how could Cortez keep up with the much favored NWA Worlds Champion Adam Pearce?

No doubt the Magnum Pro Wrestling fans were on Cortez’s side. As he entered the ring, the building exploded with cheers. I could see nor feel any doubt from the Magnum pro wrestling’s fans that Cortez was the underdog on this night.

When the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion came to the ring with his “ten pounds of gold” he was still all smiles but you could tell that the night before’s defense against Wyatt had him a little bit more focused than normal .

Photobucket

Pearce is a master strategist and agitator from the moment his music hits till the final bell ring. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

After studying hours of tapes of Pearce, I have come to conclusion that no wrestler enjoys taunting the crowd more than Adam Pearce, at first I thought it was a tactic to get under his opponents skin. I am now convinced that just like his rival from the night before Wyatt that he thoroughly enjoys seeing them in total anger. I was beginning to wonder if I would need protection to take photos at ringside the emotions were so hot from the fans in the front row.

Photobucket

Before I knew it the action was fast and furious as Cortez strategy was to move forward. From the get go it looked as if he had the right plan as Pearce was reeling from the quickness of the challenger. Like any smart champion Pearce found a way to slow down the momentum of Cortez and the fans mood by grabbing hold of him then taking him down with a headlock.

Photobucket

To slow down Cortez, Pearce brought him to the mat. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Cortez would fight to get back up once again hitting a belly to back suplex that seemed to have given the challenger the chance to get the pinfall. Any other man that may have been enough but Pearce did not become a 4 –time NWA’S World Champion by not taking a beating. Just as the ref was to hit the 3 count, Pearce’s shoulders came off the mat, keeping the Champion still alive in the match.

Photobucket

Knowing that this was his moment to shine, Cortez pulled out all the stops. Surprisingly the fans didn’t mind the least. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Back and forth they went, as Cortez turned his back, Pearce rolled him up but Cortez was able to kick out, moments later it was the challenger using his feet on the ropes for extra leverage but Pearce was still too strong.

Photobucket

A headbutt from Pearce dropped Cortez. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

One mistake against Pearce and many of men are done for the night, as was the case with Cortez, when Pearce locked in his pildriver, there was no escape for the hometown favorite.

Photobucket

Though Cortez fought with all his might, the champion was able to hit his patented piledriver. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Unlike many wrestlers who try to use the move but are unable to deliver it with enough force to get a win , Pearce knows what he is doing and the crushing blow sent Cortez crashing head first into the mat.

Three seconds later, the NWA World Champion Adam Pearce retained his championship and survived the Terror of the Midwest tour weekend against both Jeremy Wyatt and Tony Cortez.

Photobucket

Pearce remains the NWA World Champion. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

The cocky grin was still there on the champ , his eyes were glazed a bit. You could tell he now knew that the Midwest is in fact the “Danger Zone” for his title. Men like Tony Cortez, Jeremy Wyatt, Michael Strider and Kahagas all have their sights set on “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce.

Magnum Pro Wrestling returns next Saturday!!

Adam Pearce offers an open contract for the NWA World title in Glen Carbon, Illinois on April 6th!!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 29, 2012

By Brian Kelley

Adam Pearce is a 4-Time and current National Wrestling Alliance Worlds Heavyweight Champion.

Missouri Wrestling Revival was on hand once again for an historic weekend in the wrestling as the NWA Worlds Heavyweight champion Adam Pearce defended his title.

First it was in Des Moines, Iowa for 3XWrestling as Pearce looked to have lost the prestigious title to “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt. For more details on the very controversial match click here to see how “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce was able to leave Des Moines with his belt still around his waist.

The next night we traveled to Council Bluffs , Iowa to Magnum Pro Wrestling as hometown favorite “Babyface” Tony Cortez wrestled quite possibly the match of his life as his fans cheered him on. We will have a full recap of the match along with photos of the two warriors in action later this week at MWR.

Till then I do have to let you know that Pearce was able to retain the NWA World title, but his trips to the Midwest have been nothing short of near disasters each time. Prior to this weekend he had been to battle not once but twice with the former NWA Central States Champion and Metro Pro Champion Michael Strider. On each occasion, Strider left a lasting impression on the Worlds Champion with a war that the fans in Kansas City is still talking about today.

Not since Ric Flair has there been such an active NWA Worlds Champion and Adam Pearce is not backing down from no one. We received this video with a major announcement from the NWA Worlds Champion.

There you have it wrestling fans, the NWA Worlds Championship will be defended in Glen Carbon Illinois, on April 6th at NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling, the same area that champions like Lou Thesz, Harley Race, Ric Flair, Dory Funk Jr., Gene” Kiniski and Pat O’Conner defended the title.

Pearce is now in his fourth title reign, and is better than ever. His experience, confidence and talent level is spectacular. We have heard reports that the contract has been signed, and as soon as we can verify the rumors we will let you know just exactly will have that golden opportunity to go down in the history books as a National Wrestling Alliance Worlds Heavyweight Champion.

Mark your calendars, fans in the St Louis area, the NWA Title returns on April 6th, 2012.

Don’t miss it.

Is NWA World Champion Adam Pearce’s “Last Ride” tour about to come to a screeching halt due to “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 16, 2012

Photobucket
NWA World Champion Adam Pearce’s t-shirt as he makes his world tour.

By Brian Kelley

The prestigious NWA World title returns to where it all began as the NWA World Champion Adam Pearce comes to Des Moines, Iowa on January 27th in action at the 2-time MWR promotion of the Year 3XWrestling.

Adam Pearce has been the NWA World Champion since July 31st when he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship for the fourth time by defeating Chance Prophet, Jimmy Rave and Shaun Tempers in a four-way match to win the vacant title.

It’s a shame that Pearce, a veteran of the sport for over 16 years has never received the just do that the man of his talents deserves. While the NWA title and the organization thrived for years under the management of the likes of Sam Muchnick, times have changed and the NWA has seen dark days for the type of wrestling that made me a fan of the sport.

With his years of experience in the ring and a desire to bring back the glory of the NWA World Title Adam Pearce has embarked on what he calls his “Last Ride tour”.

His last trip to the Midwest was memorable to say the least as he made his way to Kansas City for Metro Pro Wrestling. The Challenger was Michael Strider, the setting a packed house at the Turner Rec Center on November 5th, 2011.

Photobucket

Steven J Girthy and NWA Central States Champion Jeremy Wyatt make their claim for the NWA World title. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Earlier in the night at Metro Pro Wrestling, Jeremy Wyatt and his manager Steven J Girthy would let the fans know that it was he who deserved a match against Adam Pearce. Bringing to the ring  Wyatt read the hype surrounding him in the year 2011 including the KC Star where they ranked him the #1 wrestler in Kansas City and copies of the MWR article “Does Steven J Girthy have Jeremy Wyatt poised to become the NWA Champion of the World on Nov 5th at Metro Pro Wrestling ?”

Yet, it would be a classic matchup in the main event as  Strider looked to have earned his boyhood dream to become the NWA World Champion when he pinned Pearce as referee  Michael Crase Jr. counted 1-2-3.

Photobucket

Matt Murphy, then the MPW comish goaded Strider to continue the match due to Pearce’s feet to be supposedly under the ropes. (Photo Credit Bill Smith)

While Strider went to celebrate with his fans and father, out to the ring came MPW commissioner Matt Murphy. Murphy claimed that Pearce’s feet were on the bottom of the ropes as Crase Jr. made the final third count to the mat.

Murphy on the mic taunted Strider stating that “You don’t want to win the title like that; you want to be a man and win it like a Champion.”

Strider unwisely would make the decision to not take the title that way and agreed to have the match continue. It would be minutes later that Pearce would benefit a little assistance from Murphy when he tripped Strider, allowing Pearce to strike and use a roll up with his feet on the ropes to retain the title.

The next day I would travel to Collinsville, Illinois to cover Ring of Honor where fans came up to me, asking if in fact Michael Strider had become the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion as they had seen on the NWA website, then was deleted as the NWA webmaster caught word of what had occurred.  Unfortunately, I had to deliver the bad news that Pearce along with Murphy had stolen the Worlds Championship from the former NWA Central States Champion Strider.

Little did we know how someone’s missed opportunities would allow Wyatt to get his wish at the NWA world title.

Fast forward to the final show of the year at 3Xrestling on December 30th.  3XWrestling Champion Jeremy Wyatt loses a close match against Mark Sterling after the “Iron Man” used the ringside bell to help Sterling began his first 3XWrestling title reign.

In the locker room, 3XWrestling camera’s captured Todd Countryman offering Sterling the contract. Let’s watch this once more to see how Wyatt and not Sterling received this dream match against the World Champion Adam Pearce.

So mark your calendars, ask for the day off, and make your way to Des Moines, Iowa at ALL PLAY as the Champion of the World Adam Pearce comes to defend his title against the 2-time 3XW Champion Wyatt. Wyatt is currently the NWA Central States Champion and only the 3rd man in the history of the NWA to hold both the NWA Central States and the NWA Missouri title (He did this last year, Harley Race and Bob Orton being the other two men) Jeremy Wyatt.

Photobucket

Only the third man to hold the NWA Central States and Missouri Championship at the same time, Jeremy Wyatt(Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Though Adam Pearce used some underhand tactics to defeat Strider at Metro Pro Wrestling, make no doubt about it that he can defeat Wyatt in many many ways. Pearce in the past has successfully defended the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Bryan Danielson (WWE’S Daniel Bryan, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion) and Danielson is just one name on a list of victims.

Photobucket

From the Apr '09 edition of Pro Wrestling Illustrated; Pearce bludgeons perhaps his greatest opponent, a bloody Brent Albright, in New York City.

Pearce brings the ring an old school high impact attack, standing 6’2, 245 pounds he will unleash a fury of moves including the Figure four leglock, Flying fist drop, and the Middle-rope elbow drop setting his opponents up for The Rack Bomb (Backbreaker rack dropped into a powerbomb) or the vicious Jumping piledriver to retain the title.

Quite honestly, after hours of studying tape of Pearce in action, you can see many of his opponents in fear of those finishers from the start of the match.

Photobucket

Pearce will have to beware of the crossface finisher from Wyatt. Many matches and titles have been won via this feared move in the Midwest for “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt(Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

One man who will not have fear in his eyes is the “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt.  Wyatt considered by many to be the best wrestler in the Midwest, has been dying for this opportunity to make a name for himself. He knows that opportunities likes these are very rare for wrestlers in the area. Quite possibly the most hated man in the Midwest, 3XWrestling fans have come to love him for his multiple matches of the year and giving a 110% during every match.

Wyatt most likely will be the first to tell you he is not doing this for the fans, yet he is the fans best chance to bring back the NWA Worlds title back home to the Midwest.

Is Pearce making a mistake as he makes good on his promise to “GIVE BACK to a deserving industry that has given me 16+ years of experiences that I’ll cherish forever.”

Pearce, a fighting champion will be around the world in  Oberhausen, Germany defending the title a week prior to his return to the Midwest. Fans in Iowa can prepare for a double shot starting off with match against Wyatt at 3XW then heading to Council Bluffs, Iowa for Magnum Pro Wrestling to take on “ Babyface” Tony Cortez the very next night.

With one Lighting Spiral from Wyatt on January 27th at 3XWrestling, the NWA president Robert Trobich   and Magnum Pro may be scrambling late Friday night to come up with a plan to resign a rematch against the NEW NWA World Champion Jeremy Wyatt and Adam Pearce immediately.

When it is all said and done, I want the NWA and Adam Pearce don’t say that Missouri Wrestling Revival didn’t try to warn you of “The Belt Collector”.

Great NWA world title moments in the Midwest.

PWP’s 2010 Year of the Phoenix V Photo Recap by Gary Giaffoglione – Jayden Draigo returns

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 23, 2010

Photos by Gary Giaffoglione

The show started with a shocking return, as Jayden Draigo made his way to the ring. Draigo was a staple of the Omaha area wrestling scene for many years, but left PWP on very bad terms back in early 2006, so to see him again in the PWP ring came as quite a shock to many. Draigo went on to explain that the 4 men who had been collectively known as The Murder Militia had been on top of the company for a long run, but lacked the vision and guidance to bust through to the next level – which he was there to offer. He promised the PWP faithful that change was on its way.

*** Matty Star defeated Stephen Saint. After the match, The Murder Militia’s “Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt returned to PWP, and laid out both men. Wyatt went on to state that he was back, and coming for “his” PWP Heavyweight Title.

This brought out Jaysin Strife, the man who took the title from Wyatt – Strife and Wyatt then debated over their past accomplishments, which finally brought out “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon. Cannon said they all had done a lot to be proud of, but instead of talking about it – why not lace up their boots, and see who was the best in a 3-Way Dance later in the evening.

*** Abu Colossus defeated David Clark. Clark’s stock continued to rise, even in defeat, proving that this rookie is not to be taken lightly. However, Abu showed everybody once again that he is undoubtedly one of the strongest forces in PWP.

*** “The Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Slade defeated Darin Corbin via DQ, stealing a page out of Eddie Guerrero’s playbook, making it look like Corbin had hit Slade with a flag pole, even though he did not.

*** PWP Heavyweight Champion, “Babyface” Tony Cortez came out and stated that he would be a fighting champion, but would be choosing his own challenger for the night, he chose “The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell. Cortez obviously underestimated Rockwell, as Jimmy nearly had the match and the title won at several points. In the end however, Cortez showed that he truly is one of the very best, picking up the win.

After the match, Jayden Draigo came back out, to confront Tony Cortez. Draigo spoke about the history the two shared, both being pioneers for independent pro wrestling in the area, and even talking about how Draigo was the one to initially train Cortez. Jayden offered Cortez a spot in the Murder Militia, telling him to at least consider it.

*** Up next, The Murder Militia’s Mark Sterling & Joey Daniels were to challenge Chris Havius & Donnie Peppercricket for the PWP Tag Team Titles. An irate Havius came out alone, saying that he just found Donnie bloodied in the back. Sterling & Daniels kept yelling for Havius to simply forfeit the titles – however Havius insisted on fighting, even if it was 2 on 1. Havius held his own, but took a severe beating – until Jaysin Strife ran out, hoped into Chris’ corner, and stepped up as his partner. Strife cleaned house, until he was pulled out of the ring, and sent into the ring post by Jayden Draigo. With Strife out of the picture, Havius was overwhelmed by the odds, and Sterling & Daniels became the new PWP Tag Team Champions. The new champions celebrated with Draigo as they made their way to the back.

*** In the main event, “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt, Jaysin Strife, and “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon squared off in a fast paced, epic encounter. In the end, The Murder Militia’s Mark Sterling and Brett Young pulled Cannon out of the ring and held him as Joey Daniels laid a beating on him – while the referee was trying to get order restored, in the ring, Jayden Draigo hit Strife with a Super Kick, followed by Wyatt hitting The Lightning Spiral. The referee slid back in just in time to count the three, making Wyatt the winner.

After the match, Wyatt and Draigo put the boots to Strife, as Tony Cortez made his way to the ring applauding and smiling. Cortez got in the ring, and raised the arms of Draigo and Wyatt – but then in a shocking moment, Cortez hit a double Flatliner on both men, to a huge ovation from the crowd. Helping Strife up, Cortez and Strife then fought off the other members of the Murder Militia, before Draigo called them all back to regroup. The night ended with Cortez and Strife standing tall.

The Murder Militia appears to be stronger than ever, having reclaimed the PWP Tag Team Titles, and now with the guidance and vision of Jayden Draigo – however, the PWP resistance is far from dead as well. What will happen next? We’ll just have to wait and see!

We now look to Saturday February 13, 2010 – where Pro Wrestling Phoenix will hold it’s 50th EVENT!!

Details coming very soon!

Your Trip to Space Mountain

Posted by Admin on March 12, 2008

Your Trip to Space Mountain
by Brian “Flair” Kelley

The second installment of “Your Trip to Space Mountain” is a special treat for you. I have asked the local wrestlers and promotions to provide us, the fans, a DVD recommendation that showcases their best work. I’m hoping to give you something to look for online and at the tables during intermission at the next show you attend.

I was a little disappointed that very few took me up on my offer to be a part of this, but thankful for the ones that did reply. The wrestlers stated that it was hard to choose a particular DVD and wished me the best. I hope that you take the time to pick up one – if not all – of the DVDs they recommended. I know I will!!

Darrien Sanders

Central States Wrestling: X Marks the Spot 2 (April 29, 2006)

Darrien Sanders vs. AJ Styles

“It was the show where NOBODY thought I could hang with the “Phenomenal” AJ Styles!”
-Darrien Sanders

AJ Styles makes his debut in CSW to take on “Showtime” Darrien Sanders. This was my first time attending a CSW show, and had driven 3 hours to see AJ Styles. When it was through, though, I would know the name “Darrien Sanders”.

Look for Darrien to connect with a huge Mafia kick that nearly takes AJ’s head off.

Where to Buy: Contact CSW via their website (http://www.cswwrestling.com/).

Derek Stone

Derek may not know this, but he is my girlfriend’s favorite independent wrestler and throughout the years I have seen many Derek Stone matches. From his WLW Championship days as the Sheik to pulling shenanigans with fellow wrestler Mason Hunter, Derek never fails to entertain. Derek stated I could chose any CSW material, so I chose one match that everyone can truly enjoy.

Central States Wrestling: Superstitions (October 13, 2006)

Derek Stone vs. “#1” Brett Young w/ Steve Girthy in a “Loser Wears a Dress and Serves Concessions” Match.

Derek had a feud with Girthy Management’s stable of wrestlers and “#1” Brett Young had managed to beat Stone in a “Loser Eats Dog Food” match in August 2006. Young looked to embarrass Stone again on Friday the 13th. The aftermath is something I will never forget.

Bonus : Not a couple of minutes, but 20 whole extra minutes of the loser serving concessions to the fans wearing a French maid outfit.

Where to Buy: Contact CSW via their website (http://www.cswwrestling.com/).

Jeremy Wyatt

He is a man of very few words, but if he says “buy it” then I would be the last to argue with him.

Pro Wrestling Phoenix: Phoenix Rising (April 2007)

Jeremy Wyatt vs. Arik Cannon

This was the first time we ever faced off, and it turned out to be one of the best matches in the Midwest in 07
– Jeremy Wyatt

Where to Buy: Contact PWP via their website (http://www.prowrestlingphoenix.com/).

Johnny Greenpeace

Gateway Championship Wrestling: Mschif Volume 1

Johnny Greenpeace vs MsChif

Johnny Greenpeace had “Tree” at ringside, but was it enough to overcome the talented Mschif and her partner in crime Delirious? Johnny had his hands full throughout the match, but hit Mschif with a t-bone suplex that she won’t soon forget.

Where to Buy: You can look for it online, but your best bet would be to go to the St. Louis Wrestling Community site/forums and ask around.

Mark Sterling

Mark Sterling is always ready to let you know how good he is, so it’s no surprise he was quick to reply.

Central States Wrestling: Deal with the Steel 3 (December 9, 2006)

Mark Sterling vs. Dingo for the NWA KS Title

Dingo had beaten AJ Styles in August of 06 and was named #1 contender to Mark Sterling’s NWA KS title. On October 13, 2006 after a 30 minute time limit draw, Sterling refused to shake Dingo’s hand and even spit in his face. Dingo challenged Sterling to a ladder match with the NWA KS belt suspended above the ring. What followed was a brutal match filled with dangerous risk taking and intense ring action.

Where to Buy: Fans can buy the DVD from http://www.cswwrestling.com/.

My Final Thoughts

This concludes this edition of “Your Trip to Space Mountain“. Be sure and take the time to get these recommended DVDs from some of the hardest working athletes in the Midwest. These DVDs have everything, from the superstars of today to the stars of tomorrow, and you’ll have the chance to say that you saw them first.

I encourage you to take a trip to an independent show to support the next generation of wrestlers.

Till next time as the Man Ric Flair says WHOOOOOOOOOOOO

[Editor’s Note: No bias was given in the preceding article. Many wrestlers, promoters, and fans no Brian “Flair” Kelley as the ultimate wrestling fan. He supports just about every promotion that holds shows within five hours of his home in Central Missouri. He contacted MANY different wrestlers and promotions, and these are the ones that replied. The next time this man is in your area, treat him well. He deserves it for his support of Midwest wrestling.]
