Ricky Cruz Reflects on his Career in the Midwest- See Him One Last Time on Saturday
Posted by flairwhoooooo on November 23, 2016
When Ricky Cruz told me recently that he was calling it a career for some reason I just did not compute that it would actually happen. Maybe I was in denial. Time passed and to be honest I had forgotten all about it till I was having breakfast at Denny’s with my friends Ben Simon, Patrick Brandmeyer and Gary Weiss and it was one of the main topics this past Friday night.
To say that Ricky Cruz was influential in the Midwest since his debut in 2011 would be an understatement. One of the top stars in his country of Puerto Rico, fans quickly fell in love with not only the wrestling skills that Cruz possessed but the rare charisma that only a few are blessed with. In fact other than Brandon Espinosa and Jeremy Wyatt there most likely is no other wrestler that I photographed or wrote their name on our site more throughout his time in the Midwest, than “The King of Chaos”, Ricky Cruz.
There is no doubt that his feuds and matches with the likes of Ron Powers, Jeremy Wyatt, Adam Pearce, and Jake Dirden will be remembered for years to come. More than once I have seen a crowd that was dead for one reason or another come alive as Cruz was able to establish a connection with them and get them to their feet.
Cuz always took the time to help other young stars in the area along the way with advice in and out of the ring. Though I have mentioned it more than once already it can’t be stated enough the connection that Ricky Cruz had with his fans, young and old. As a photographer he made my job FUN and easy when it was time to get that awesome photo of a wrestler with his fans, before, during and after the matches. If I only had a dollar each time a fan asked for me to take their photo with him through the years I could take December off.
He would go on to star for almost every respectable company in the MWR Coverage area, winning titles and being named the 2014 MWR Wrestler of the Year. We were also honored to have him be a part of the first series of the MWR Trading card set at number #78.
When Ben Simon came up with the idea of having a MWR Missouri Title, Ricky Cruz became the first ever champion when he defeated Jake Dirden. I am forever grateful that he took pride in carrying the title that had the MWR name throughout the state of Missouri. We had so much fun through his reign working with several top promotions and wrestlers along the way.

On a personal level, the future Mrs. Brian Kelley, (Dubray) and I will always consider Ricky a dear friend.
This Saturday I hope that you join me as we say farewell to Ricky Cruz as he takes on his arch rival Jake Dirden one last time at Dynamo Pro Wrestling at the Ready Room on Saturday night.
I leave you with Ricky Cruz’s final goodbye through social media, but it will be so much sweeter for you to say goodbye to him in person.
By the way Ricky if you decide to renege on this announcement afterwards I am all for it.
Cruz can’t lose.
Brian Kelley – Missouri Wrestling Revival Owner and Editor
Thank you!!
Since May 2011 I’ve had the opportunity to be here in the mid-west doing what I love, WRESTLING. It’s been great to have the chance to entertain the fans and work with so many talented people.
I wanted to take a minute before this 2 last matches and thank the people that have help me and encourage me to continue doing what I love when I thought I would never set foot in a ring ever again. When I came to St. Louis I was injured and I was never to wrestle again or at least that’s what I was told by my Dr. but that wasn’t the case.
As I was getting better I had the chance to meet Keith Smith and Tony Costa, two gentleman that has been in wrestling forever. They gave me a place to train and later on my first opportunity to come back to the ring. For that I will forever be grateful.
Also thanks to Herb Simmons because he gave me a chance to do great things at SICW. Even when we don’t see eye to eye in a couple of things this days I still appreciate the opportunity and the faith he had in me and my work. I hope one day we can seat at Steak and Shake like we use to and talk wrestling.
I have to thank all the veterans that helped in any way, Keith, Chester, Gary, Pete, for all the advice and their comments. Thank you for helping me be better at this craft.

MMWA Presents Rush Hour Aug 13 St. Louis, MO MWR MO Champion Espy vs Swagg
Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 26, 2016
From the office’s of the MMWA
With our next event only a few weeks away on August 13, it’s now time to make a match announcement.
After last months first ever Championship Scramble match at MMWA, we saw 2.0 sneak away with the MMWA championship once again. Champion AJ Williams had the help of his partner and other competitor in the match, Da’Marius Jones as well as their associate BT Daramola. This match saw Gary Jackson get busted open from the hands of 2.0 that lead to multiple stitches for the St. Louis legend.
Gary has contacted commissioner Jim Harris and requested a match with any member of 2.0 and Harris has answered. With that being said here is the first match we at MMWA would like to announce, Gary Jackson will face BT Daramola in a Street Fight with the rest of 2.0 banned from ringside!!!
If 2.0 decides to ignore this rule, AJ Williams will relinquish the MMWA Championship.
Fans will also be able to witness a MWR MO title defense as the Champion Brandon Espinosa looks to continue his impressive reign as champ against J-Mal Swagg . Swagg enters into this match with a lot of confidence. Will he be able to shock the wrestling world and become only the 3rd man ever to capture the championship?

A.J. & Da’Marius Wreak Havoc At South Broadway
Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 27, 2016
The show started with a ten-bell salute for Mike Flowers; he competed as part of the legendary Moondogs as Moondog Puppy Love and apparently competed as the second Moondog Rex as well.
J-Mal Swagg vs. Brandon Aarons vs. “Infamous” Tyler Copeland vs. Varik Morgan for the Jr. Heavyweight Title: Aarons and Copeland brought their PWE/WIA feud to MMWA last month, but their contenders’ match ended in a no-contest when A.J. Williams & Da’Marius Jones attacked both men. That led to an impromptu tag match, but Copeland walked out on Aarons and left him to lose. The match was relatively short with Aarons primarily pairing off with Copeland while Swagg fought with Morgan. It was good while it lasted; Aarons pinned Copeland in 6:48 after a half-nelson suplex…I understand that’s called the “Hairflip Suplex”.
We have a NEWWWWW MMWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion, though Swagg will probably want a rematch after not being pinned/made to submit.
Battle Royal: The show featured two battle royals with the winners facing each other later in the night for a shot at the Heavyweight Title. As is often the case when MMWA does multiple battle royals, a lot of the same guys were in both. The first battle royal had thirteen participants…eleven were introduced, but Swagg assisted a still-hurting Copeland to the ring and they were both late entries. The rest of the field was Brandon Espinosa, Clownman Jacko, “Wildchild” Billy Diamond, Mike Outlaw(making his MMWA debut), Tag Team Champion Prince Moses, “Black Panther” Johnathan Zulu, Flaming Freddie Fury, the debuting Matt Kenway, C.J. Shine, “The Millenial” Danny Adams, and Varik Morgan(who had a really long night).

Copeland was quickly eliminated by Zulu, followed by Jacko(by Diamond and Morgan with Espy assisting from the floor) and Swagg(by Adams)). I didn’t quite catch when Diamond went out and neither did MMWA Ring Announcer Ben Simon, but I saw him leave ringside around this time(reviewing the video, Fury threw him out). From there it was Fury (by Espy & Zulu), Adams(by Shine), Zulu(by Outlaw), Shine(by Espy & Kenway), Kenway (by Espy), and Moses (by Espy Awesome-Bombing him over the top rope onto several wrestlers!).
Outlaw eliminated Espinosa in another nod to history in other promotions, but Morgan managed to eliminate Outlaw for the win in 5:02.
The Family (Prince Moses & Damion Cortess) vs. A.J. Williams & Da’Marius Jones for the Tag Team Titles: Moses & Cortess upset The Eternals(Espinosa & Ace Hawkins) for the belts in February; Williams & Jones earned this shot with their win over the dysfunctional duo of Aarons & Copeland.

It felt like the first part of a series between the two teams; Cortess is being eased into action by being part of a tag team. They had a good match going, but it ended out nowhere; Jones and Cortess were fighting in the ring while Williams and Moses brawled on the floor, but the referee counted out the legal men and it led to a double countout in 11:31. Williams & Jones dished out some post-match abuse, tying up Cortess in the ropes and beating down Moses; Jones spraypainted “2.0” on Moses’ back before Baracus arrived to run them off.
Battle Royal: This was an eleven-man battle royal with Morgan removed due to his earlier win and Moses out due to the beatdown in the previous match; “The Enforcer” Jimmy D was in place of Flaming Freddie Fury. Williams & Jones(who had not been signed to participate in the battle royals due to their other championship opportunity) tried to storm the match but were held back by officials.
Eliminations: Jacko by Espy, Kenway by Adams, Copeland by Outlaw, Diamond by Jimmy D, Shine by Adams, Jimmy D by Swagg(with an assist from Diamond on the floor),

Swagg by Adams, Zulu by Outlaw, Outlaw by Adams. That left Adams and Espinosa…Espy showed impressive strength by catching Adams in mid-aerial move before eliminating him in a brisk 3:27.
Varik Morgan vs. Brandon Espinosa: I’ve been impressed by Morgan’s recent outings. Drew Abbenhaus compared him to Sami Zayn…it was probably the red hair.
Espy knocked Morgan off the top rope to start the match and immediately focused on the arm to build to the cross-armbreaker. Williams & Jones AGAIN tried to raise a ruckus, giving Espy the opportunity to use a chair behind the referees’ backs. The ensuing pin attempt was a bit confusing as it looked like Espy got the pin, but the fall was seemingly waved off by Commissioner Jim Harris due to him seeing the illegal weapon usage. The match continued with Morgan surviving Espy’s best offense, even trading WWE finishers with him and beating the ten-count after a turnbuckle brainbuster. The match nearly went to a time-limit draw, but Espy got the cross-armbreaker in the final minutes of the match and Varik tapped out at the 19:10 mark. The two shook hands after the bell without incident.
Mike Outlaw vs. “The Millenial” Danny Adams vs. Matt Kenway: The winner would earn the next shot at the T.V. Title. These three men (among others) had full nights as they were in both battle royals as well as this match. Funny to think that out of the participants in the infamous “illegal match” from last year between Everett Connors and Sean Orleans, only Adams (who refereed that match) remains in MMWA.

Kenway got his welcome-to-wrestling treatment as his chest was red from the knife-edge chops he received throughout the night. Adams pinned Kenway after the reverse Stunner in 11:34.
“Da Bomb” Brian James vs. “Dirdey” Jake Dirden for the T.V. Title: Despite being a rulebreaker in recent months, James was the fan favorite by default against the decidedly-rulebreaking Dirden.

Dirden brought the title belt into the ring, but Dirden got it and BELTed James for the DQ in 9:17. The two continued to fight after the bell until being separated by officials…I don’t think this is over, but Danny Adams has the next shot at the championship.
“Fighting Irishman/Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One” Gary Jackson vs. Moondog Rover for the Heavyweight Title: Considering Moondog’s lengthy tenure in the area, it was surprising to hear Ben Simon comment that this was his first-ever shot at the MMWA Championship.

Gary was dressed in green for St. Patrick’s Day and added his extra nickname for the night…he played the subtle rulebreaker role for the evening as Moondog OVAH was extremely popular as usual. They fought it out and Gary seemed to have the advantage before Williams & Jones ran in for the Sportz Entertainment Finish/no-contest in 9:02.
Bah! The good guys fought them off, but tension still existed between the two before Moondog left the ring area…
Gary cut a promo afterwards and said that Moondog could get another title shot any time he wanted. CUE THE RULES~!

A Perfect Night for MWR at SICW – Dubray Tallman Says Yes
Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 25, 2015

Brian on his knees proposing with the “good guys” from SICW ,Brent Meyers, WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Cowboy Bob Orton, and “Old School” Chaz Wesson showing their approval with a thumbs up for the proposal as Dubray Tallman accepts the ring while the “bad guys” “The Tokyo Monster” Kahagas, Wyldefyre, Curtis Wylde and SICW Champion Flash Flanagan shows their disapproval. Special edit to Derek Sharpe who unfortunately had to take out Ron Powers on the good side because the room was not big enough….
Missouri Wrestling Revival has had the pleasure to support pro wrestling in the Midwest for the past 8 years by covering the biggest events, awesome matches and moments in hundreds of events. During that time we have provided a home for fans to come to so that they are aware of where to be and why, with over 4,000 posts and thousands upon thousands of photos of the young wrestlers in action looking to live their dream as a wrestling superstar.
While MWR has been blessed to have the support of promoters and wrestlers around the country, and have our very own Yearbooks on Amazon.com and MWR T-shirts sold around the world on ProwrestlingTees, our biggest achievement most definitely has been the positive relationship with the wrestling community and the fans around the country.
They say that behind every good man is a good woman. For myself that has been Dubray Tallman. I had met her over 11 years ago and during that time I wish that I could say that it has been easy, but alas we have had highs and lows that have been self-inflicted at times. Yet, there is no doubt that there has been no women that I have loved as much as I have loved her.
As we were dating early on, I took her to see Harley Race’s World League Wrestling and Kansas’s Central States Wrestling. At the events we would build a foundation of friends in and out of the ring that we still share to this day. Our life would change forever on a day that my friend Josh Ray, called to ask me if I wanted to contribute to a website called Missouri Wrestling Revival. Early on it was Josh, myself and a talented young writer still in High School from St. Louis named Kari Williams who hoped to present a professional positive view of the local wrestling scene in the Midwest.
Years would pass and both Josh and Kari would go on to bigger and better things in life, but Dubray and I would travel to over 40 events a year in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Iowa. The amount of miles, money and time to do this site has taken up a huge amount of the past decade for the two of us. Dubray has never been a wrestling fan, but has always been there to support my love for pro wrestling.
So when I decided that I should ask my true love to marry me, I wanted to do something special that she would remember for the rest of her life like the best anniversary gifts. One of my most vivid memories growing up was Macho Man Randy Savage proposing marrying Miss Elizabeth, and I wanted to provide Dubray a moment where she was the main attraction for our biggest moment to date.
The decision was where to have the big moment. First and foremost, Kansas City has always been like my first home as that is where we went for over a year to start to check out the stars of CSW. Today, wrestling is even bigger and better there as Metro Pro Wrestling is the place to be in Kansas City every other month. The Turner Rec Center is always packed with close to 400-to 500 fans that we are very close to. The promotionis also the home to my close friend and the Artist of Champions Rob Schamberger while having a great mixture of talent that we have supported in several promotions. So Kansas City would have been a great choice.
During the past couple of years our finances have been depleting as disappointments with jobs and our four kids going to college that our visits to Iowa has dwindled considerable. Still every time that we have made our way to the beautiful state of Iowa, it has been a true pleasure as the wrestling has been fun and the people are so awesome. We have seen that during the 2013 3XW Iowa Latino festival and this years Jeff Thompson Memorial event. I have long considered Iowa fan favorite Mark McDowell to be one of my best friends and it would be a pleasure to have done it at either PWP or 3XW.
Yet, St. Louis was the one place that I felt that it would be the perfect place to propose to Dubray due to the fact that it was the home of the majority of the promotions that we cover. It would allow a chance for all of our friends and fans of SICW, PWCS, WLW, Dynamo Pro Wrestling, New Breed Wrestling, MMWA,PWE, St. Louis Anarchy, Proving Ground Pro and High Risk Wrestling to make the trip to see put my heart on the line.
I decided that the SICW’s home of East Carondelet, Illinois would be the perfect place to do so as the the Community Center is always packed with fans that have become friends for years, and is the home of St. Louis’s only TV tapping SICW Wrestling Explosion. Add on the fact that promoter Herb Simmons and his wife Mickey have been very close friends and the ring announcer/commentator Dr. Drew was a friend of ours long before he earned a career in the sport, I had faith that they would do what they could to make it go as smooth as possible.
On the way home from the historic WLW Ric Flair/WWE/NOAH/NEW JAPAN camp event in Troy, Missouri in August I made the call to ask Herb if it was possible that I would be allowed to propose to Dubray in the ring in the near future. My idea was to have Herb announce that he was going to present us with an “award” to thank us for our support of pro wrestling in the Midwest. Beings that she was included in the announcement from Herb she would be required to be in attendance that night. A quick note, Dr. Drew would cement that thought in her head in a positive light when he announced during their TV show that the “Queen of MWR” Dubray and I would be there to accept the award.
Herb asked me if I would like to do it at the October event as it was going to be a huge night with the St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame. I was concerned that we would be trying to take away the focus of the Hall of Fame induction, to which Herb stated that he believed that it would only add to the occasion. So with his blessing and help the day was set for the big announcement.
I have never been good on the mic, so it has always been a good that I have been working behind the scenes through the website and photos. When it was time to put my heart on the line, Herb was a 100 percent right, the time could not have been any better. Thanks to the huge night of honoring Bill Apter and Eddie Smith into the Hall of Fame, there was many friends in the building that may not have been there otherwise as friends came from Minnesota , Iowa and beyond.
During the week I had watched some proposals online to help me find the right words and actions to make her moment as special as possible. With time on my hands I also watched some proposal fails that were funny, but a possibility for us to be included if I was to total mess It up.
Before I knew it, we were in the ring accepting our award, and as we had planned Herb and Drew encouraged Dubray to show off our new plaque to the fans as I prepared to get on my knees to ask the biggest question of our life. The moment was a blur, but I will forever remember the huge pop from the crowd as she said yes. Throughout the night, friends and people I did not know were all smiles as they congratulated us on the big moment. Looking back I know in my heart that it was a huge success as among those that were happy for us, there were many young kids around the age of 7-15 that stopped me to congratulate me on doing it in the ring, they thought it was so cool. Kids are as honest as they come and anytime you can impress them (and not bore them lol) on a night filled with hard hitting wrestling action then you know it was a huge success.
Thank you to Promoter Herb Simmons and SICW for allowing us to have our moment in the ring and for all the boys and girls in the locker room who were more than happy to take a proposal photo for fun.
As always thank you to all of the fans and our friends for their sincere support and we look forward to seeing you in 2015.
