The Night Train Captures The Gold

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 18, 2015

By Patrick Brandmeyer

There has rarely been a goal that Gary Jackson hasn’t achieved.

“The Night Train” has held championships all over the Midwest and has competed in the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling. However, the SICW Classic Wrestling Championship had eluded him since the very creation of the title. Gary was one of the favorites in the tournament to crown the inaugural champion in January of 2011, but he was eliminated in a time-limit draw with Dave Vaughn. He never got a chance to challenge Danny Boy Hawkins for the gold as his title reign was short-lived…and he only got one shot at Ron Powers when he was champion, dropping the fall in a triple threat match that also involved Chris Hargas. Gary challenged Ricky Cruz for the title on a few different occasions. One of Ricky’s first defenses as champion was against Jackson, but that match was thrown out due to the interference of the Travis Cook Organization. It would be months before Gary would get another crack at the belt…at the end of a hard-fought battle, Cruz locked on his Cruzeta Azteca submission hold. Jackson never submitted or tapped out, but he passed out in the hold and the referee called for the bell. The devastating defeat had halted Jackson’s title hopes once again.     The veteran had no problem with working his way back up the ladder…and soon he was in title contention once again. This time the titleholder was “Ironman” Ken Kasa, managed by Travis Cook. Jackson appeared to be on the verge of finally capturing the title as he had Kasa in the Texas Cloverleaf, but Cook blatantly interfered to get his man disqualified and save the title. That led to the return of Big Daddy as he was handcuffed to Cook for the following month’s rematch…but Kasa was able to counter the Cloverleaf with a small package to escape with the title. Once more, Gary found himself on the outside looking in on the title picture. Issues with Flash Flanagan and Mohamad Ali Vaez sidetracked him from his championship aspirations as the belt went from Kasa to Heath Hatton to Flanagan. Jackson defeated Vaez in a hard-fought Texas Death Match and then settled his old issue with Kasa by making him tap to the Cloverleaf in a tag match…and that finally put him in position the challenge for the title once again. However, this time around it was all or nothing for “The Great One”…it would be his last shot at SICW gold. It was the first one-on-one encounter between Flanagan and Jackson after the two had traded pinfall victories in previous tag matches. Gary had the support of Big Daddy in his corner, but Flash had a whole bag of tricks up his sleeve to potentially retain his title(some less legal than others). Of course, one can’t forget Gary’s famous “rules”…he’s not above bending or outright breaking the rules to achieve victory. It was a battle of two veterans, but “Gorgeous Gary” still had the edge in overall experience. Flanagan had the advantage in size and agility…the two were about even in terms of technical expertise and sheer toughness. Flash was no pushover, obviously…the titleholder had experience in the WWF, TNA, and Puerto Rico on his resume. He also brought his trademark kendo stick to the ring, something that had helped him score his tainted championship victory over Heath Hatton in November. The two battle-hardened competitors matched each other move for move as the momentum swung back and forth…it could have easily gone either way. photo 000_zps8pdykw45.jpg photo 82_zps8wnwljkd.jpg For Flanagan, the championship was at stake; he enjoyed holding his title reign over the heads of SICW higher-ups who frowned on his tactics. For Jackson, any hope of acquiring the Classic Wrestling Championship was on the line…it was “now or never”. photo 0000_zpszffeqp4d.jpg When Flanagan was unable to put Jackson away, he went for his kendo stick…perhaps to deliver a cheap shot behind the referee’s back or perhaps to blatantly get himself disqualified to save his title. However, Big Daddy was the difference-maker as he distracted the champion from whatever he had planned. That allowed Jackson to roll up Flanagan in a pinning combination…and three seconds later, he had finally reached the top of the SICW mountain! Pandemonium swept the East Carondelet Community Center…other wrestlers came out to celebrate with the new champion and Gary reminded us of The Rules: He comes out to win, he refuses to lose, he will cheat to win, and don’t forget The Rules. After four years of pursuing his goal, he had finally become the SICW Classic Wrestling Champion! photo 83_zps5y3zf3fe.jpg Of course, the end of one story is the beginning of another and the challengers are already lining up to face “The Night Train”. However, if the long road to the top was any indication, Gary Jackson isn’t the type to quit so easily and will be a tough man to dethrone as champion. photo sicw 4_zps5bd7b9cz.jpg photo sicw 5_zpswake3gbs.jpg photo sicw1_zpshcjd5re4.jpg photo sicw 2_zps57s1iwrm.jpg

Father’s day 2013 with the wrestlers and fans of SICW

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 16, 2013

Everyone knows that I truly love pro wrestling but family is so much more important that even the passion that I have for the sport.

 photo Grandma2_zps66c7b63c.jpg

Myself with my father Steve Kelley,my son Josh,my mother Diane and my sister Dee Dee along with her two kids Faith and Marc.

This past week was laying heaving on my mind as Father’s day was upon us. It has been two years since my father Steve Kelley  has passed away and though life does move on, there isn’t an hour pass that I don’t think of him. When he was alive, both of us love the movies and were comic book fans. My dad and I went to the movies to every comic book movie that was made for several years prior to his passing. I am a Marvel Comics fans but it did not matter if it was a Marvel, DC or Independent comic book movie we always watched the movie on the big screen. Since he has passed, I have only been able to bring myself to go watch a movie on the big screen once and that was for the movie Avengers at the dollar theater in St Louis. I know it is silly but it just wasn’t the same and I had not been there since.

With the new Superman getting a ton of hype and Father’s day here, a part of me just wanted to stay home instead of even going to wrestling. The days passed, and the weekend was here, the excitement of seeing so many of my friends, wrestlers and fans, enticed me to move forward to live and make my way to St Louis. Add on the fact that so many of my friends were excited about the movie, Dubray and I talked about checking out the movie Saturday afternoon , but decided on spending time with our friends instead.

I was blessed to have my father in my life for 38 years, he wasnt perfect, or rich and we went to war at times but I could not of asked for a better dad in my life.

That leads me to SICW in East Carondelet, Illinois last night. A packed crowd was filling into the Community Center for the huge card that was main evented by the Classic Wrestling Championship match between Champion Ricky Cruz and former champ Ron Powers. Since the feud has heated up so much SICW promoter Herb Simmons had to enlist the services of a referee that was capable of maintaining order, and that responsibility would be on the shoulders of the first ever CWC title holder Danny Boy Hawkins.

With time passing by so fast, I needed to get my camera ready for action. Looking for a place to sit to put my flash on, I asked a fan if he would mind if I sat next to him for a second to do so. He was kind enough to say yes, and we shared some small talk. I asked him what match brought him out tonight and he proudly answered with a smile that he was the father of one of the wrestlers.Ernie Richardson went on to tell me that he son was Midwest Powerhouse Adam Raw, and that he unfortunately is unable to watch his son in action most of the time because he is on the road for his job, but was very happy to be there that night.

We shared some more pleasantries, and I told him it was nice meeting him and went to work. Midway in through the matches I was listening to the crowd pop for their heroes loudly and boo the villains when I noticed that there was a ton of different families in the building. It dawned on me, how great it would be to honor the fathers in the building with a special post for MWR by having them taking a photo with their kids.

 photo AdamRAW_zps33504996.jpg

Ernie Richardson with his son pro wrestler Adam Raw

So that conversation with Raw’s dad is the inspiration for this post. I am going to share with you two extra pictures that I have, that were not of that night but of the weekend. One is of Daryl and Kyle Valle; I consider both of the guys’ great friends before I even knew that were father and son. I believe years had passed before I found out on Facebook (Oh the wonders of Facebook) They have been much more than supporters of MWR; we have shared some great moments and conversations together through the years. They remind me so much of my dad and I, so I love photographing them every time I see them. That is how I do have a photo from the Dynamo Show of a dad and his son.

The second bonus photo is of wrestling promoter TNT Keny G. There is never a dull moment with TNT Keny G, and he has been a dear friend for many years now. He has a big heart and has open up his house to us when we come to STL, which allows us to afford double shots when we can. This was one of those weekends that it really helped us cover shows to the best of our ability for the site. TNT Keny G has worked with legends, champions and superstars but there is nothing that he is more proud of than his children. A father of three sons, Samuel, Dustin and Keny as well as three daughters Santana and Savannah.

For the wrestlers and fans that took part of this feature in a moments notice thank you so much, as it makes me feel good to meet you at the shows around the Midwest. If I miss you I apologize,as it was truly a spur of the moment project.Next year for Mothers and Father’s day I may ask for you the fans and wrestlers to send in photos of your Dad/Mom.

Thanks for checking out MWR today, and be sure to tell your loved ones how truly you care about them just not on that special day but every day.

Enjoy and I will see you at the shows.

Your friend
Brian Kelley

Ron Powers’ reign of terror continues!!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 9, 2011

By Brian Kelley

Ron Powers in 2011 has been big, bad and just plain mean. To start the year he would turn on his best friend Danny Boy Hawkins giving him a beat down that was hard to watch. He would follow that up by taking Danny Boy’s Classic Wrestling Championship title while ending his career.

He was just getting started, after taking out Danny Boy he has set his sights on MMWA-SICW promoter Herb Simmons. When Simmons brought in Cowboy Bob Orton, Ted Dibiase and Dory Funk Jr so that the fans could have a chance to meet some of the all-time greats, Ron Powers in some demented way took offense to that.

In an odd pairing to say the least, Sean Vincent, the cocky and brash Canadian has been one of Powers henchmen in all of his evil deeds. Powers jealousy and rage has not only been targeted towards the legends but also newcomer LaMarcus Clinton who the fans have quickly gotten behind. Powers would challenge the high flying youngster to a match. Clinton was quickly put on the spot against one of the best ever in the Midwest in his very first year. The weight, the experience and brute strength of Powers would be too much for Clinton as Powers would get the win….but after the bell was rung; Powers continued to attack Clinton thus forcing the ref to reverse the decision in favor of the young star Clinton.

Last month in East Carondelet, Power’s ego would be front and center once again when he challenged anyone to an arm wrestling match. A MMWA-SICW security employee came out but stood no chance of beating power. Out came wrestler Pete Madden who gave it his all but quickly fell to the monster Powers when out of the back came young Chris Hargas.

Hargas one of the young studs of MMWA-SICW was fired up but not as angry as the champ seem to be as he looked on the other side of the table knowing that Hargas was in awesome shape. After several moments of stalling Powers and Hargas sat down to decide who the top arm wrestler was. At first it looked like another win for Powers but Hargas fought and never gave up until it looked as if he had Powers beat. Yet before MMWA-SICW Commissioner Keith Smith could call the victoryPowers had snapped.

Brutally attacking Hargas with chair shot after chair shot while Sean Vincent antagonized and assisted the champ. Powers quickly sent a message to Hargas that he was not amused.

Later that night during a CAC Championship match between Ron Powers and Chaz Wesson, Hargas had regrouped and though you could see he was in pain, was fired up coming through the door and after Powers. The locker room had to be emptied to separate the two and regain peace.

That leaves us to this month; Chris Hargas is set up to team up with Chaz Wesson to take on Ron Powers and Sean Vincent.
We caught up with Ron Powers and Sean Vincent moments after Hargas and Powers were separated and they had this to say.

MMWA-SICW returns August 20th in East Carondelt with a co-main event featuring two of the very best in the country when Gary Jackson meets Mark Sterling.

Get your tickets and come out of the heat into the AC at MMWA-SICW in East Carondelet.

Is “Mean” Mason Beck the BIGGEST and most feared Wrestler in the Midwest today?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 8, 2011

Photobucket

You may laugh at the fear in that kids eyes in the back but I have seen the same look ringside for some of Becks victims in the ring.

MWR fans throughout the three plus years that MWR has been in existence, there has been many who feel that wrestling’s nastiest wrestler has been “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt, there is very few that would argue that the hardest working wrestling is none other than Mark Sterling but what about the biggest and most feared wrestler today?

While no wrestler in the Midwest is more loved than the Mississippi Madman, he brings to the ring a softer side during his matches. In the past the name that was mentioned for feared was “The Future” Donovan Ruddick who currently resides in WWE’S developmental system with FCW under his new moniker DT Porter.

Ruddick standing at 6”9 was a machine that the fans in ST Louis loved to see weather or not he was in a good mood or heaven forbid the man was on a war path destroying opponents on a weekly basis.

With Ruddick’s absence who do we believe is heir to his throne of the Biggest and most feared wrestler in the wrestler in the Midwest?

At the top of any list one would have to say that is “Mean” Mason Beck. Beck a powerful man in the old of Ruddick towers over the competition. What makes Beck a front runner for this title is the fact of how much speed and stamina the man possess.

We have seen recently Mason Beck bully his way around the Midwest with power moves and wrestling combined.

Beck is a former partner of Ruddick as last year the two teamed up with manager MR Late Nite to beat the Madman and his partner former WWE STAR U-Gene at Pro Wrestling Epic ; the two looked to take over the Midwest before Ruddick’s signing of WWE.

While many wrestlers in the Midwest would like to see Beck get signed and move to Florida along with Ruddick, MWR Fans we highly recommend that you get to a show near you to see Mason Beck in action soon before that happens.

Let us look at a video package of why he is MWRS pick for Biggest and most feared wrestler today

Just a few weeks ago we were in Springfield Illinois for New Midwest Wrestling where Mason Beck took on fellow rising superstar Nick Brubaker in a phenomenal match. Brubaker by no means is a push over and went toe to toe with the big man but it was breathtaking at times seeing the power of Beck being demonstrated at times during the match on Brubaker.

Yet MWR may be wrong fans who else could be the man that puts fear in the Wrestlers heart?

In alphabetical order

Alexander Rudolph

Photobucket

Young and wild is words that come to mind for this Metro Pro Wrestling and NWA Dynamo star. Rudolph has been recently been seen around the Midwest more frequent the first part of the 2011 causing alarm for many young wrestlers. Led by manager Sadie Blaze winning has not seemed to be the objective as much as hurting people.

Brian Ash

Photobucket

Ash the current 3XWrestling Champion is intimating to say the least. He brings to the ring a ring presence of power and respect. He is the main reason that Genesis has had the edge over the fan favorites at 3XWrestling

Bull Schmitt
Photobucket

Schmitt is a former WLW Champion who knows how to wrestle but would rather cause trouble and hurt people like MPW Champion Derek Stone along with good friend Trevor Murdock. While Schmitt may seem fun lovin as he heads to the ring it is his roughneck ways in the ring that has his opponents running for cover.

The Dixieland Destroyer

Photobucket

Unpredictable and dangerous is what many have to say about the DixieLand Destroyer. You never know what you will get from the masked man. At times has shown a friendly side but when the bell rings he pushes his weight around in a ferocious manner. Referees and Security’s worse nightmare you never know if he truly understands the rules of the match.

Preston Maxwell

Photobucket

Maxwell was just a name on a card in the past at Pro Wrestling Phoenix but when he targeted the Big Hurt Abu Colossus last summer in a brutal feud he put the wrestling world in notice that he would no longer be forgotten. After winning the first stage of his feud he is now the PWP Champion with Abu once again knocking on his door.

Ron Powers

Photobucket

Powers has been feared for many years and age has not slowed down this monster. It looked as if time had soften the big man as he was cheered in 2010m but after feeling slighted with the love that CWC Champion Danny Boy Hawkins was receiving he went postal. MMWA-SICW promoter Herb Simmons has had to employ extra security to contain the rage of Powers during the shows in East Carondelet. Powers would win the CWC title this past March from Danny Boy with no looks of slowing down anytime soon.

Ron Powers goes berserk !!!

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 24, 2011

By Brian Kelley

Shocking developments at MMWA-SICW in East Carondelet this past Saturday.

Missouri Wrestling Revival were all set to present the trophy awarded to the Classic Wrestling Champion Danny Boy Hawkins for becoming the first CWC Champion this past January in the one night tournament.

The fan favorite Danny Boy had just had a great win in a war with “The Worlds Fittest Wrestler” Mark Sterling. Afterwards MMWA-SICW Commissioner Keith Smith and MWR’S Dubray Tallman surprised Danny Boy with the trophy in the middle of the ring.

Photobucket

The champ took time to thanks his fans and family for their support and wanted to give a special thanks to his very best friend Ron Powers.

Powers is one of the most feared men in St Louis, had defeated MMWA-SICW Heavyweight and TV Champ Gary Jackson by count out earlier in the night came into the ring to give his friend a hug and congratulations.

Dubray was on her way out of the ring to let the two friends cherish the moment when promoter Herb Simmons asked Dubray to come back for MWR photographer Mike Van Hoogstraat to take a photo for the media.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Mike shot the photo…..then it happened Ron Powers delivered a clothesline from hell on his good friend, while Dubray ran for cover. Powers then went on a rampage destroying the trophy and continuing the beat down on Danny Boy while the crowd was stunned.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Thankfully Gary Jackson came in the ring on Danny Boys behalf but not before the damage was done. It was clear that Ron Powers had sent the message to the whole locker room, he was not to be trusted and everyone should watch their backs.

What will the following months at MMWA-SICW bring as Danny Boy, Ron Powers and Gary Jackson all have unsettled business to be taken care of.

Thanks to Mike Van Hoogstraat for sharing with you photos of this historic moments in St Louis Wrestling.
