Last October, Edmund “Livewire” McGuire pinned AAPW Champion, “Serial Thriller” Shane Rich in a tag team main event. AAPW decided McGuire should receive one more opportunity to face Rich for the title. However, since then, AAPW has hired a new booker. The new booker feels that McGuire still needs to prove himself a worthy #1 contender in singles competition. Therefore, McGuire will face a “Mystery Opponent” in the main event in which the winner will be the #1 contender for the AAPW Heavyweight Championship. This booker is being very tight lipped about who he has chosen or will choose to face McGuire. Rumors are already speculating of whom it could be. Will it be a former AAPW Champion? Mississippi Madman and Shawn Shultz are both former champions who have never received a rematch since their respective title reigns ended. Is it someone who has never received a championship opportunity in AAPW? Wrestlers such as “Da Bomb” Brian James and “Thee” Brandon Espinosa both have very impressive win/loss records in AAPW yet neither has had an opportunity to compete for the AAPW title. Or could it be “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt??? Wyatt has made it quite clear he believes he is the best in the Midwest and was cheated out of the AAPW Championship in his epic battle with Shane Rich. Nobody will know until January 15th.
Also in action; “Playboy” Paul Rose teams with Christian Rose to face The Convoy. The Convoy have had their eyes set on the AAPW Tag Team titles since the company’s inception but have come up short in every opportunity. They are wanting to make 2011 the year of The Convoy.
Pokerface makes his AAPW debut on January 15th. This ring veteran has spent most of his career tearing up the Mid South but has occasionally competed to the Midwest. He believes not only that he can compete in AAPW, but will soon be a top contender and a force to be reckoned with. Who will step up to the challenge of Pokerface?
Others scheduled to appear include: El Magnifico, “Dynamite” Seth Knight, “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony, Heath Hatton, and Carnage.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under.
Be at New Beginnings Assembly, 1011 E. 6th st., West Frankfort, IL.
Doors open at 6pm, Bell time is 7pm

Hello All, this is Dubray Tallman with “Dubi Meets the Fans of MMWA-SICW” The house was packed at East Carondelet, Saturday, December 11, 2010.
This was an important night for us as the fine people at MMWA-SICW was honoring the hard work that we do at MWR with a presentation in front of their fans and we finally caught up with Larry Matysik to present him with the 2009 MWR Lifetime Achievement Award .
Also on this exciting night was the best of the best 2009 MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling going one on one against the one and only Mike Sydal. This night also featured two grudge matches starting off with a leather strap match showing the wrath of the powerhouse Ron Powers taking on the Big Texan with Gary Jackson as the special referee. Bad blood and respect was on the line in a grueling 2 out of 3 falls match between the former MMWA-SICW Champion Dave Vaughn and Brandon Espinosa led by Vaughn’s ex manager Travis Cook.
I won’t lie as I was nervous as could be heading to the show as this was the first time that I had been to a show without Brian, who was in Granite City, Illinois covering NWA Dynamo/High Voltage Wrestling. I was fortunate to be able to catch a ride with our good friend and MWR photographer Mike Van Hoogstraat and Larry Eddicott to the show.
The nerves would soon be long gone as everyone at MMWA-SICW made me feel very welcomed as they prepared to bring the fans the best show they could to end the year. While they got ready to open the doors I caught up with some good friends along with Larry Matysik who are two great guys.

I had found the MWR Wrestler of the Night in MMWA-SICW fan favorite Danny Boy.
Danny Boy was able to wear the MWR Holiday green and red shirt to the ring prior to his match. Mission accomplished for the MWR wrestler of the night, I found my Santa hats that I was going to give everyone who sat in the front row. I decided to just give them to the children, and they seemed very happy about wearing them. I made the mistake of running out of the hats and one cute little girl was in tears. Being a mother of three myself I that hit at home and thankfully I was wearing my reindeer antlers and was able to make her happy by giving them to her but I made her promise me that she would wear them.

Herb Simmons presented us with a great plaque from MMWA-SICW that Brian was thrilled about, and my speech to Larry Matysik went off without a glitch so I was feeling good and off to find some friends to be a part of Dubi Meets the Fans.

The first set of fans I met were Devan and Dylan, from East Carondelet and this was the first time they had been to the matches. They were excited about seeing some girls wrestle, and asked for me to choose a wrestler for them. I chose young Chase King for them and King is shown here holding Dylan’s sister Jaelyn.

Marla Bradshaw was super excited to get her picture with Ron Powers, she was all smiles and happy as a lark, she couldn’t wait to get her hands wrapped around this beast of a man.

Marla’s son Cody also wanted to choose a wrestler, so he went with the young high flyer Ace Hawkins.
Prior to Danny Boy’s match with Tony Raze, he threw out the shirt to Sarah Kinkade. Danny Boy would go on to pick up a big win on the hated “Lockdown” Raze.

Look for a full photo recap from Mike Van Hoogstraat in the near future at MWR, and I hope all the fans have had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Till next time, be good and I hope to see you at the shows in 2011.
HUMBOLDT, Iowa – The hometown of world wrestling champion Frank Gotch, one of the nation’s best-known athletes in the early part of the 20th Century, is making plans to honor its most famous citizen with a statue to be placed in Bicknell Park. The park occupies the site where Gotch trained for his most important match.
The project is being run by a not-for-profit organization called the Frank Gotch Statue Committee.
“Frank Gotch was arguably the top athlete in America in the 1908 to 1915 era,” said co-chair Steve Reimers, a lifelong resident of the city located in the northwestern part of the state. “Frank brought great recognition to this town and to all of Iowa. Many of us feel it is time to pay a special tribute to Gotch and the great legacy he left behind.”
Bicknell Park was the site of Gotch’s training camp prior to his epic match with George Hackenschmidt, known as The Russian Lion, on September 3, 1911, in Chicago. Gotch set up camp by the small bluff on the Des Moines River and spectators flocked to watch the world champion in training. Sports reporters from around the nation converged on Humboldt the month prior to the match. One reporter estimated that one day there were nearly 2,000 fans down by the park watching Gotch train.
The camp consisted of a large ring, handball courts and an area for wall pulleys and punching bags. Several of the top wrestler in the world came to the camp at various times to serve as workout partners for Gotch. His training was supervised by Farmer Burns, considered the greatest professional wrestling instructor of all time.
Bicknell Park was donated to the city in 1920. The project will include a brick walkway around the pedestal the statue stands on. The statue will be made of bronze and stand eight-foot tall, depicting Gotch in a familiar pose with hands on hips while attired in a wrestling uniform. It will be placed on a two-foot high pedestal, with accompanying information on his career and life in Humboldt.
Gotch was undefeated during his seven-year rein as world champion and won his last 88 matches in a row. He owned a considerable amount of land in Iowa and Minnesota and was active in the community in a variety of ways. He was part owner of an automobile dealership in Humboldt and served on several civic boards. He was even being considered to star in a movie in Hollywood and the Republican Party of Iowa was looking at him as a possible candidate for governor in 1920.
But Gotch fell ill in early 1917 and died on December 16, 1917, at the age of 39, of kidney failure. His death was front-page news all around the nation and an estimated 2,000 people attended his funeral. He is buried in a large mausoleum in Union Cemetery, two miles west of town.
According to the author Mac Davis, in the book 100 Greatest Sports Heroes, Gotch was a bigger star than any boxer or baseball player. “As the idol of millions in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Gotch made wrestling a big-time sport in his day. Babies had been named in his honor, as had buildings, toys, farm implements and a hundred other things. The word ‘Gotch’ was a synonym for quality and strength.”
The statue committee is comprised of various members of the Humboldt community, as well as two noteworthy “outsiders.” Frank Gotch III is the grandson of the legendary wrestler and currently lives near Austin, Texas. He has agreed to serve as an honorary member. Mike Chapman is one of the nation’s leading wrestling historians and the author of 22 books, including three on Gotch. One of them, Gotch: An American Hero, has been purchased by Empire Film Group in Los Angeles and is under development as a major motion picture.
“We are delighted that the grandson of Frank Gotch and a well-known historian are helping us with the project,” said Reimers.
Other members of the committee are Ron Wasoba, former Humboldt High School wrestling coach, who is co-chair; Tonya Harklau, former executive director of the Humboldt Area Chamber of Commerce; Maurey Abens, Chad Beaman, Jana Bratland, Ken Bratland, Kent Clendenen, Todd Lee, Phil Monson and Bruce Reimers, a former NFL football player from Humboldt who played in a Super Bowl as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.
“In an effort to make this project all inclusive, we are reaching out to the citizens of Humboldt, and also to wrestling fans across the state and the entire nation,” said Wasoba. “Frank Gotch helped created a strong interest in wrestling in America in the early 1900s. We believe many fans across the nation will want to be a part of this effort to honor his memory and his impact on the sport, both amateur and professional.”
“I think part of the reason this is such a wonderful project is because Frank Gotch had a very powerful love of this community,” said Chapman. “After he became world champion, many promoters and managers tried to get him to leave Iowa and move to the big city. But he never was tempted. He told them he was born an Iowa farmer, was raised an Iowa farmer and would die an Iowa farmer. And he was true to his word.”
There are various levels of support offered to donors, beginning at $125 and going up to $3,000, and beyond. Anyone wishing more information should contact the Frank Gotch Project, c/o Friends of the Park, PO Box 247, Humboldt, Iowa, 50548, or call Tonya Harklau at 515-332-3285 (or harklauj@goldfieldaccess.net) for further details. Donations are tax deductible to the extent offered by the law

Many of the experts are calling it the biggest match in the past 10 years in the Midwest to happen this Friday in Des Moines Iowa. That match is none other Mark Sterling vs Jeremy Wyatt in a 60 minute NO DQ Iron Man match to finally answer the question who is the very best today.
The buzz on this match is at an all time high.
Let’s find out what the wrestler and the fans have to say about this historic match up
3XW, PWN and IWAP Superstar Hunter Mathews-
I have seen these two go toe to toe with the top wrestlers in the world. Wyatt has been to war with former Ring of Honor World Champion Tyler Black twice. Recently Sterling showed the wrestling world why he is among the elite when he submitted the best wrestler in the world today Davey Richard at Pro Wrestling Next.
I have been in the ring with both of these men, and have to say that they hit harder than anybody I know. Even though I have to disagree with Sterling’s Nobel attitude as of late in 3XW. I have to give him the edge.
However this is a no DQ match and Wyatt will do what it takes to win. This is sure to be a brains vs. brawns match for sure. –
MWR Writer Mark Campos-
I give the edge to Sterling, he is primed to become the 3xw Champion for the very first time.
3XW, PWP and MECW Superstar Jimmy Rockwell-
Wyatt and Sterling are some of the most talented guys wrestling in the Midwest. I’ve been in the ring with both guys and their conditioning is insane. I think we are gonna see some things in this match that nobody has ever seen/done before. Picking a winner between the two is almost impossible. The only winners I can see are fans of Midwest wrestling!
3XW and PWP Superstar Darin Corbin –
I have been in the ring with both Sterling and Wyatt…Heck Wyatt put me out of action for two months. But when it comes to an Iron Man match I have to say that Sterling has his number. It will be a hard fought battle but Sterling will know how to go the distance, and his training regiment is that of Facebook Status Legends. So my pick is with Sterling.
3XW and MECW Superstar“The American Fury” Jonathan West
It should be a real physical mattchup. I’ve been in the ring with Jeremy Wyatt and he is the real deal. But I have seen how intense Mark Sterling is here lately and I don’t think he (Wyatt) knows what he’s gotten himself into.
Kari Williams MWR Writer-
I will go with Wyatt. He always seems to have some sort of back up plan just in case things aren’t going his way.
3XW Reporter Midnight Guthrie –
This one is really difficult to call because they are both so physically, mentally and emotionally tough. Despite possessing different strengths and weaknesses, they are both so evenly matched, as displayed by the previous three excellent matches they have had this year in 3XW. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them come to a draw after 60 minutes and then have to settle it in some sort of extra time scenario. One thing to consider, however, is that Wyatt does hold the lead in this series and you have to wonder how having that motivation factors into Sterling’s strategy – does he try to pick up a number of falls quickly or does he approach this match even more cautiously than usual? I’m incredibly excited to see how this match plays out!”
AAPW and IWAP Superstar Edmund Livewire McGuire
Sterling I have faced in a 4 way match once before, and I know firsthand how fierce, no nonesense competitor that he is. Wyatt is one that I have never faced before but there is no doubt as why he is called the belt collector…it’s going to be an interesting match to say the least. I have to go for Sterling. He’s the man
MECW, IHW and PWE Superstar “The Kid” Evan Money
My prediction for Wyatt –Sterling Iron Man match has mixed feelings. Knowing the ability that Wyatt has and the power of Sterling calls for a hard decision to choose. I believe that the match will end in a time limit draw with each man giving it there all.
Michael Crase – referee (NWA Dynamo Pro an Metro Pro Wrestling)
Ref Michael Crase works to maintain order in the ring.
Being someone who has ref’d alot of both competitors’ matches, I’d give te edge in a 60 minute iron man match to Jeremy Wyatt. Sterling has the advantage in intensity and killer instinct, but Wyatt has more patience and is a bit more methodical. Sterling takes an early lead, but Wyatt wins, 4 to 3.
MCW Superstar -The Iceman
I’ve been in the ring against both of these men and I have also been both of these men tag team partner
Both of these guys are very tough intense and are truly at the top of their game and are two of the best in the Midwest if not in Pro wrestling as a whole
I wish I could pick a clear cut winner but I honestly can’t do that
AAPW, NMW and PWE Superstar The Mississippi Madman
I give the win to Wyatt he is just to clever for Sterling.
3XW Superstar Buck Albright
Wyatt: Having the privledge of stepping in the ring and watching The Rebel over the years, he never seizes to amaze me with his skill. His never say die attitude is what makes him so dangerous. At a moments notice, he can hit you with the Kansas Tumbleweed and it’s 1-2-3 or having you tapping to any type of pressure lock he just happens to come up with on a dime. His quickness and endurance are second to none, very underappreciated.
Sterling: Mark has been on a terror over the past few years. His power has become amazing. His technical mindset makes him dangerous as he can pick an opponent apart from any angle at any given time. Once he locks in the Markshooter, it’s time to cry to mommy, cause your not getting away.
As far as my pick, both men are equally matched in the endurance category & 60 minutes may not be enough, but speed overcomes power in this slobberknocker, as Wyatt picks up the victory 3 falls to 2.
IHW, MECW, PWE Superstar Brandon Aarons.
Well in my opinion, when you think of the best wrestlers in the midwest wyatt and sterling are easily 2 names that come to mind right away. I have had the oppurtunity to face both men in competition and I would compare my matches with them to being hit by a semi truck. They are both brutal and hard hitting individuals. I have scars on my chest and arms from the matches i’ve had with them. At the same time I have learned a lot from both men and that shows that they obviously know what they are doing. They know what it takes to get the job done. But I believe that Sterling with his conditioning and strength training routine is physically and also mentally prepared to go the full 60 minutes non-stop. Yes wyatt is very talented and a very smart wrestler but I believe sterling and his 1,000,000 muscles will reign as the victor in this epic encounter.
3XW, MPW,PWP, HVW and PWE Superstar Sir Bradley Charles.
On the heels of the OVW camp given the momentum built up i would probably give the advantage to Mark Sterling. But you can never rule out a veteran like Jeremy Wyatt. Regardless of who comes out on top i think the fans and the boys in the back are in for a treat.
