3 -Time WWE Tag Team Champions Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch
We were all hit with a bombshell yesterday. Lance Cade has passed away. I’ld first like send my sympathies to his friends and family that dealing with tough time first hand. I just met Trevor Murdoch a fews months back and can only imagine how he feels about this tragedy. Over the last decade, us as a wrestling community have had more than our fair share of death. This one seems to hit really close to home for me. Lance was 29 years old, the same as am I. Lance and I made our debuts not far from each other. I pretty much saw his entire career. Just because they say “only the good die young”, doesn’t make it right.
We had just started working a regular basis and we went to a Memphis Championship Wrestling show at a fair somewhere and that was the first time I had seen Lance live. He was tagging with Tracy Smothers as the team TNT(Tennessee-N-Texas). Long blonde hair, slender frame but still a big guy. Reminding me, and everyone else, of Barry Windham. MCW’s television once featured a blood bath between Lance and William Regal, a match I went out of my way to see.
The whole Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy bunch that came out in ’99 had very high hopes. Lance, Spanky and Brian Danielson have all had much success. Of the three, I always found myself wanting to see more of Lance. I wanted him to be in something he could really sink his teeth in to and give us that memorable moment that would live forever and catipult Lance into a bigger role. I got my wish when he pinned Shawn Michaels live on Monday Night Raw in a tag match. Soon after though he was released for a mistake he made outside of the ring.
Another name added to list of “too soon” in pro wrestling. Lance will be missed, in the ring by his fans and at home by his friends and family. Everyone take time to remember the important things in life. Which changes from person to person. Whatever makes us better, happy people can only be a good thing. I think the world was a better, happier place with Lance in it and it saddens me that we never got the opportunity to meet or maybe even lock horns in the squared circle. I promise.
“Superstar” Steve Fender (Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat)
One of the best kept secrets in the Midwest is “Superstar” Steve Fender. Fender is currently one half of the arguably one of the best tag teams in the game today with Mark Sterling. Fender and Sterling are currently the WLW Tag Team Champions.
Fender has wrestled around the world including World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Pro Wrestling Noah.
Fun fact: Fender became the first American to train at the Pro Wrestling Noah Dojo and has the drive and talent to take on stars Takao Omori , Samoa Joe and Trevor Murdoch.
Fierce and methodical Fender wears down the toughest of opponents until they begin to doubt themselves, then its all over.
When MWR’s Josh Ray returned from Iraq, Fender and Steve Anthony was chosen as a Welcome home match at High Voltage Wrestling. The match was so good that we added it in the first MWR Best of the Midwest DVD.
We are proud to announce that the MWR Trading Card #17 is none other than a true Superstar in Steve Fender.

WLW Heavyweight Champ Trevor Murdoch d. Trent Stone in a strap match
Missouri Wrestling Revival returned to World League Wrestlingon July 17th in Park Hills Missouri. In this edition of Dubi meets the fans, Dubray Tallman was unable to take part due to being under the weather.
I was not alone as I was joined by MWR photographer’s Bill Smith, Mike Van Hoogstraat and his good friend Larry Endicott Sr.
To say that MWR felt as this double main event between WLW Champion Trevor Murdoch and Trent Stone in a leather strap match plus WLW Women’s Champion Amy Hennig meeting Santana G was a big deal would be an understatement.
You never know how hard it is to do a job till you have to fill those shoes, that would not be more evident that what it was on this night.
First up was young Austin Coleman from Farmington who chose the young exciting Cancun Kid.

His sister Jersey was all decked out ready for the matches and quickly became a fan of Santana G.

Mike and Braden Chapman sat in the Golden Circle and were more than happy to have their picture taken with former WWE Tag team Champion and current WLW Champion Trevor Murdoch.

Also checking out WLW in the golden circle were Jason and Jonah from Lappe and they wisely chose Trevor Murdoch as their favorite wrestler.

Cody Drennen from Potosi had chosen Santana G as his WLW favorite and I had to laugh after I took the picture Santana G innocently asked “Did you get my new boots in the picture?” How can you not love the talented Santana G?

Two kids were very excited about WLW wrestling were Alan and Zach who I spotted throughout the night getting autographs and conversation from stars like Chris Hargas and Trevor Murdoch.

I was introduced from Larry his friend Charlie Wilkerson from Farmington, Illinois and his son who was having a great time with the action on this evening. Charlie and
While I was getting to know Charlie he told me that he worked at Off-Sets and Zip and Dip which just so happens to be Southeast Missouri’s best place for zip lines, swimming, camping, and even doing archery with equipment from Archerypro or just hanging out with friends or family.

I have not told Dubray about this yet because though I plan on taking her when we can fit it in the schedule of our wrestling coverage, she will not let it rest till we go hehehehe. For real I am excited about checking out the place. Charlie was kind enough to support MWR and both asked to get MWR shirts for themselves. For their wrestler they were happy to have the one and only Harley Race. A wise choice if I may say so.
Bianca Hernandez was up next and took the chance to have her picture taken with the WLW Champion Trevor Murdoch.

Up next was a great wrestling fan that we at MWR are grateful to have the support of it Kyle Valle. Kyle amazingly found a MWR Shirt at a second hand store. So my question is which MWR Fan gave up your shirt? Just playin, in our 3rd year we have given away and sold close to 200 MWR shirts and I would have to believe that the shirt could not have been found by a better fan. Kyle had a lot of interest to get his photo taken with one of the Midwest most dominate WLW Champs Tag Team and the MWR of 2009 Steve Fender and Mark Sterling.

I have to apologize to Melissa Thurman, Melissa and her husband were two of the first people that I spoke to. They were very nice and I enjoyed getting to know them both. Jimmy was the wrestling fan but she was looking to have a good time. She quickly stated that she wanted her picture taken with Amy Hennig (Wise choice I may add) and just my luck I happen to have lost that photo. Her husband chose the man of the night Trevor Murdoch. Melissa I would like to make it up to you personally so if you would contact me at flairwhoooooo@yahoo.com and we will see if I can make amends.
Trevor Murdoch and Jimmy Thurman
A great night of wrestling that lived up to the hype in Park Hills Missouri with some of the top stars in the game today. Look in the near future from a Photo Recap from Mike Van Hoogstraat and more information of the WLW/NOAH camp coming to Eldon Missouri in October.
Join us in Woodriver Illinois this Saturday for more exciting wrestling action when we return to out friends at MECW. Plus have the chance to catch a MWR T-shirt from a MECW Superstar.
I just purchased the brand new book by Dennis T McHawes called Blood, Tables and Chairs and must admit that I could not put the book down. McHawes wrestled as one of the favorite Indy stars of the Midwest in the 90’s going by the name of the DRILL INSTRUCTOR.
I had the chance to see him wrestle several times in Boonville, Missouri with his tag team partner Johnny Jett for a promotion that I cannot recall and recall him becoming an important member of Harley Race’s World League Wrestling. The books first words are ….. “ST Louis – The Checkerdome – 1982” and young Dennis is attending his very first wrestling match. He is excited and makes no qualms about it. McHawes does not deny that he was a fan of wrestling and because of that you find yourself cheering him on. The Drill Instructor would debut at the historic South Broadway Athletic club and Dennis goes into detail about how he went about getting his foot in the door.
Throughout the book, MWR readers will recognize some of the names that he worked with. The Magic Man, Trevor Murdoch, Rick Ruby, Matt Murphy, Pete Madden, Derek Stone and Steve Fender are all included as McHawes lets us in on his ups and downs in his career. Readers will also learn that during his time with Harley Race, McHawes had the opportunity of working and partying with wrestling stars like Meng, Abdullah and even the great Harley Race himself.
He continues to share stories of Koko B Ware and former NHL Star Tony Twist, gives a true insight of how it felt to share a dream with tag team partner and friend Johnny Jett, only to have life move them in opposite directions. You’ll learn about his opinion concerning certain promoters and what kind of advice not to take from the Iron Sheik.
His trips to working for WWE marked the highlights of this book for me. He lets his guard down for the readers, who are therefore able to truly feel how much he and other wrestlers wanted to impress. You will also not want to miss his reflection on his relationship with Race. Most of us never get to work so closely and become friends with one of the greats. In all walks of life, you have friendships that have highs and lows. In the end you can really get a feel for how thankful McHawes is towards the people who helped him.
For only $12.00, I highly recommend that you purchase this book You can purchase it at Amazon.com
This past weekend in Florida the Midwest Sweetheart Santana G teamed up with former WWE/WCW Star Sean “SYXX –Pac” to take on Mister Saint Laurent and Becky Bayless at I Believe in Wrestling show in Orlanda Florida. MWR Fans are always asking me where and how is Santana G. Lets take a look at this important match with fellow New World Order Member Syxx-Pac.
Santana G will return to the Midwest at World League Wrestling to take on WLW Women’s World ChampionAmy Hennig. I am on the bandwagon that Amy is the future of womens wrestling and these two will be feuding for years to come.
You will not want to miss the show on July 17th in Farmington Missouri as these two lovely ladies show you how women’s wrestling was meant to be. Also on the card will be the WLW Champion Trevor Murdoch will be in a Leather strap match!!
