After going over dozens of possibilities in the open challenge, we have decided to give “Dirty” Andy Dalton the match versus “Dirdey” Jake Dirden in the main event on April 18th at the Lawford Theater(225 W Main, Havana,IL). Andy Dalton is making waves in the Lone Star State, including stints with Inspire and Branded Outlaw (and a recent ROH appearance), a main event player just a few big wins away from being an “IT” indy guy. Dalton is impressive and fully capable of both beating Jake Dirden and going on to win the PGP title, part sportsman and part mercenary, Andy is looking to take home a big prize from this hunt. He’s also after a “name”, Dalton resents Dirden’s accolades and his moniker, Andy is coming to settle just who is the Dirtiest(Dirdiest?) wrestler on the indy circuit.
“Dirdey” Jake Dirden is hurting, the mental sting of losing the Franchise title and the physical sting of a railroad spike to his eye, both perpetrated by our current champion Blake Steel. Jake’s request for a rematch was refused by Steel as he bolted the state with the belt and will be in Florida working FIP for the wwnlive ippv network that weekend. As a result PGP guaranteed Dirden he will get his rematch in May, meanwhile we need an April main event and Jake agreed to meet the man we selected in an open challenge. Proving Ground Pro returns to the Lawford Theater(225 W Main, Havana,IL) at a time when the entire promotion has been thrown into chaos. The PGP Franchise title now rests with Blake Steel, after using both a low blow and a railroad spike to the eye, Steel took the title from “Dirdey” Jake Dirden. These controversial actions are yet to be addressed directly by Steel, in fact all we have heard from Blake is his refusal to honor Jake Dirden’s rematch for the Franchise title. Instead Blake Steel has chosen to take the title to Florida the weekend of THE HAPPENING (Saturday, April 18th) and compete at FIP and EVOLVE on the wwnlive ippv network.
Having already been in a position of stripping both Tag champs and a Cutting Edge champ in our promotions history we are reluctant to quickly strip our top belt from a new champ. At this time PGP has contacted Jake Dirden and apprised him of the situation, and offered him a deal…If Jake will offer up an open challenge for THE HAPPENING we will guarantee him a Franchise title shot at our May 23rd event(or strip Blake Steel at that point if we get a second title defense refusal). Jake has agreed to that. We have now opened up the PGP phone lines to see who might answer this challenge, as a bonus PGP will offer the taker of this open challenge a title shot in June if they are able to defeat “Dirdey” Jake Dirden!!! The tumultuous history between Ron Powers and Ricky Cruz has taken several interesting turns…and it took another turn last month in Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling.
Their story started years before they ever crossed paths in the East Carondelet Community Center. Each man has his own perspective on the situation: Ricky said that Ron deliberately injured his brother in a match in Puerto Rico, ending their dream of competing as a tag team. Ron said that he was a different person at the time and had changed since that era of his wrestling career.
The tension boiled over when Powers dished out a bloody beating to Cruz in the middle of the ring…that kicked off a wild series of matches with the SICW Classic Wrestling Championship at stake. In the end, Cruz walked away with the gold…but Powers never forgot who put that blemish on his record.
The two fought other competitors but their paths seemed to keep crossing at different points. When “Ironman” Ken Kasa cashed in on a promised title shot to steal the title from Cruz, it was Powers’ post-match beating that set the table for Kasa’s actions.
Over time, Powers’ focus changed and the fans started to get behind the veteran’s no-nonsense attitude. That may have touched a nerve with Ricky Cruz…while they may have been on the same side at times, Ricky never forgot about what Powers had done to him in the past. That led Cruz to a spot as guest referee in a grudge match between Powers and Flash Flanagan…Ricky had no love lost for either man, but his more recent issue was with Flanagan.
It seemed like Cruz would call the match right down the middle, but he turned on Powers with a superkick out of nowhere to give Flash the victory. The longtime fan favorite was suddenly hearing boos…he insisted that he hadn’t changed, but the fans’ support of Powers had altered his perception of them. The feud was reignited with the popularity roles reversed, leading to some interesting alliances on either side.
The most interesting alliance was between Ricky Cruz and Travis Cook’s Organization. Despite the fact that it was Cook’s manipulations that led to the end of Ricky’s title reign, Ricky felt they had a common enemy and formed a tenuous partnership with Travis and company. The rival clashed in a loser-leaves-town match and it was the interference of the Travis Cook Organization and Flash Flanagan that led to Powers’ unceremonious exit from SICW.
A few months later, manager Big Daddy brought in a masked newcomer named “Red River Jack”. The powerhouse racked up several impressive victories, but Ricky Cruz and Travis Cook suspected that RRJ wasn’t what he seemed. King Kong Brody had once competed under a hood with the Red River Jack name…and Ron Powers was once a protege of Brody. Cruz and Cook connected the dots and speculated that RRJ was actually Powers.
The war continued with Cruz siding with Cook’s stable against their common enemies…but Travis had made one too many enemies and it all came to a head in December. RRJ’s mask was on the line in a match with Ricky Cruz…and recent Cook rival Jim Cornette was the special guest referee.
On top of that, Jake Dirden was the ringside enforcer to ward off the interference of Cook’s Organization. Promoter Herb Simmons had ruled that if Ron Powers had violated the stipulation of the loser-leaves-town match by competing under the hood, he would be banned from SICW for life.

Chaos ensued as Ken Kasa and Flash Flanagan both got involved in the matchup…Cornette and Cook came to blows and Red River Jack got the win after whacking Cruz with Cornette’s trademark tennis racket. RRJ had retained his mask and Ron Powers made his official return to SICW at the start of 2015…but Travis Cook’s Organization was still intent on proving their point.
In the process, cracks started to form in the alliance between Cook and Ricky Cruz…Cook vowed that Kasa would be champion again, something that didn’t sit well with Ricky. That may have reminded Ricky about the circumstances that led to the end of his own title reign.
During a tag match pitting Cruz and Kasa against Gary Jackson and Jim Hoffarth, Travis Cook tried to interfere but accidentally threw powder in Cruz’s eyes. Once Ricky recovered from the temporary impairment of his vision, he confronted Cook about his actions and then walked away from the match, leaving Kasa to lose in a two-on-one situation. Despite that turn of events, Travis Cook insisted that everything was fine in the Cruz/Cook alliance…and that led to the events of February 21st.
The main event between Red River Jack and Attila Khan turned into all-out pandemonium as Travis Cook’s Organization gang-attacked RRJ. Ken Kasa and new recruit Chris Hargas helped Khan triple-team the masked man while Big Daddy was handcuffed to the ringpost and unable to help. They restrained Jack while Travis called Ricky Cruz to the ring for the honor of removing the mask.
Ricky nearly got the hood off RRJ’s head…but then turned around and attacked the members of Travis Cook’s Organization! At the end of the night, Red River Jack’s identity remained unrevealed and Ricky Cruz stood tall, once again hearing the cheers of the fans…
In the wake of last month’s event, Ricky told promoter Herb Simmons that he had let his issues with Ron Powers/Red River Jack cloud his judgment and led him to associate with the wrong people…he had experienced several changes in his life that had changed his perspective on a lot of things. Despite all of that, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to coexist with his old rival…he is scheduled to team with RRJ and Daniel Eads against the Travis Cook Organization at the next show. One thing is for sure: The story between Ricky Cruz and Ron Powers is far from finished.

Dynamo Pro Champion Mike Outlaw vs Brandon Espinosa on Feb 7th in Fenton, Missouri. Espinosa will finally get his title shot. Will he join Dynamo Pro Club Elite consisting of Ricky Cruz and Jake Dirden as the only other competitors to have held both Dynamo Pro Championships? Not if Mike Outlaw has anything to say about it. Outlaw has worked hard to achieve Dynamo Pro greatness and has vowed to be a fighting champion and intends on having his hand raised at the end of every night as THE Dynamo Pro Champion.
I have been sitting here for the past couple of months speaking to fans about many of the great wrestling shows in the near future. Recently Proving Ground Pro ,Pro Wrestling Championship Series, High Risk Wrestling and St Louis Anarchy that have exciting events that featured Ring of Honor Superstars Tommaso Ciampa, reDRagon, Jimmy Jacobs, and A.C.H.
That got me talking to several fans, promoters and wrestlers in the area to fantasy book a star studded night of wrestling that would feature wrestlers from the MWR coverage area and those from one of the hardest hitting promotions in the world today, Ring of Honor.
I tried to find matches that have not been done in this area (If so very rare) that promised to be hard hitting matches that could match any in the world today. After taking a moment to check out the list, feel free to send in your choices for this supercard.

Please note that is all for fun and in no way do I feel there should be this many matches on a card, but in good fun we will imagine this is a supercard double shot.
Ron Powers vs Michael Elgin
In a battle between two of the most powerful men in the Midwest in the past thirty years Michael Elgin vs Ron Powers would be a sight to see. Though Powers is several years older, we have seen at SICW that he can be down right scary for his opponents . I love big men and have been thrilled to photographed these two throughout the past 6 years . Each of them are old school in their approach in the fact that they give the fans a 100 percent each and every night and I would love to lock horns in the middle of the ring in 2015.
The Black Hand Warriors vs reDRagon
Out of nowhere the Black Hand Warriors came in 2014 to become one of the best tag teams in the Midwest. A double champion at Harley Race’s World League Wrestling and Dynamo Pro Wrestling under the tutelage of Travis Cook, they have been involved in some of exciting wars with the BumRush Brothers and High Level Enterprise. I feel as if reDRagon are the best tag team in the world today, and have been pleading for the promoter of High Risk Wrestling , Frank Thurman to sign this match.
Jeremy Wyatt vs. Alberto El Patrón
To be honest I could put Jeremy Wyatt in a match with a new student of Ring of Honor and I have no doubt that it would be among the best matches on the card. Alberto El Patrón has the wealth, the title history advantage of a 4-time World Champion, but if I know the Rebel as well as I do he would not wilt under pressure, thus making this is an historic match that would be talked about for years.

I have a feeling that this match has been done before, and if so it makes sense. Both of these men are highly entertaining, and able to deliver an enjoyable match that would be very different that the series battles that we mentioned above.
Jake Dirden vs. Tommaso Ciampa
I once heard Jake Dirden say in an interview that he looked forward to wrestling against Ciampa; therefor I offer him the opportunity in my dream card. Honestly, this match would be very awesome as Ciampa is very capable of bringing out the beast in Dirden, and it maybe for the best as he will have to be at the top of his game to survive a focused Ciampa.
The Hooligans vs. The Briscoe Brothers
My favorite Tag team today, the Briscoe Brothers meeting the#1 ranked tag team in the Midwest during the MWR years. The Hooligans and the Briscoe Brothers are an obvious choice.
Mark Sterling vs. MOOSE
Mark Sterling has been a man that is considered to be among the most talented men in the Midwest. I feel that deserves a spot at the E for his work ethic and dedication in the ring. .
