PGP selects Andy Dalton to face Jake Dirden at THE HAPPENING April 18th Havana,IL

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 7, 2015

photo pgp 8888_zpssph2tjic.jpgAfter going over dozens of possibilities in the open challenge, we have decided to give “Dirty” Andy Dalton the match versus “Dirdey” Jake Dirden in the main event on April 18th at the Lawford Theater(225 W Main, Havana,IL). Andy Dalton is making waves in the Lone Star State, including stints with Inspire and Branded Outlaw (and a recent ROH appearance), a main event player just a few big wins away from being an “IT” indy guy. Dalton is impressive and fully capable of both beating Jake Dirden and going on to win the PGP title, part sportsman and part mercenary, Andy is looking to take home a big prize from this hunt. He’s also after a “name”, Dalton resents Dirden’s accolades and his moniker, Andy is coming to settle just who is the Dirtiest(Dirdiest?) wrestler on the indy circuit.

“Dirdey” Jake Dirden is hurting, the mental sting of losing the Franchise title and the physical sting of a railroad spike to his eye, both perpetrated by our current champion Blake Steel. Jake’s request for a rematch was refused by Steel as he bolted the state with the belt and will be in Florida working FIP for the wwnlive ippv network that weekend. As a result PGP guaranteed Dirden he will get his rematch in May, meanwhile we need an April main event and Jake agreed to meet the man we selected in an open challenge. Win,lose or draw, Dirden gets his shot in May, however if Andy Dalton wins he will get a June title shot at whoever holds the Franchise title. Dirden versus Dalton is a rock solid match on a heavy hitting night of pro wrestling. Be there to see who steps in line and what the future holds in the Proving Ground, this match is set to shake PGP to it’s foundation!!!

THE HAPPENING is a can’t miss night for wrestling fans, 5 damn cool matches announced (Lucy Mendez v Paloma Starr, Guy Smith v Mike Outlaw, Ovirload v Johnny Wisdom, Mr. Nice v Stephen King and NOW…Dirden v Dalton!) and more set to drop!!! We’re still waiting on word from both our current Franchise champ for an explanation on his actions and word from our tag champs (Team IOU) on the condition of Kerry Awful‘s hand, the moment we have either it will be posted right here!!! We’re keeping prices extra affordable, only$10($5 for kids) so do yourself a favor and get out to see this show!!! Doors open at 6:30pm, THE HAPPENING begins at 7pm. Usually I’m signing off by now, but if you read this far you’re getting an insider tip….”Dirty” Andy Dalton never travels alone, beware The Sons Of Texas….just sayin’… The coolest, hippest must see independent wrestling in Central Illinois is easy to find…..ENTER THE PROVING GROUND!!

Open Challange from Jake Dirden at Proving Ground Pro in Havana, Illinois on April 18th

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 2, 2015

 photo pgp 8888_zpssph2tjic.jpg

THE HAPPENING hits Havana on April 18th when PGP returns to The Lawford!!!

Proving Ground Pro returns to the Lawford Theater(225 W Main, Havana,IL) at a time when the entire promotion has been thrown into chaos. The PGP Franchise title now rests with Blake Steel, after using both a low blow and a railroad spike to the eye, Steel took the title from “Dirdey” Jake Dirden. These controversial actions are yet to be addressed directly by Steel, in fact all we have heard from Blake is his refusal to honor Jake Dirden’s rematch for the Franchise title. Instead Blake Steel has chosen to take the title to Florida the weekend of THE HAPPENING (Saturday, April 18th) and compete at FIP and EVOLVE on the wwnlive ippv network.

Having already been in a position of stripping both Tag champs and a Cutting Edge champ in our promotions history we are reluctant to quickly strip our top belt from a new champ. At this time PGP has contacted Jake Dirden and apprised him of the situation, and offered him a deal…If Jake will offer up an open challenge for THE HAPPENING we will guarantee him a Franchise title shot at our May 23rd event(or strip Blake Steel at that point if we get a second title defense refusal). Jake has agreed to that. We have now opened up the PGP phone lines to see who might answer this challenge, as a bonus PGP will offer the taker of this open challenge a title shot in June if they are able to defeat “Dirdey” Jake Dirden!!! Stay alert for breaking news on this situation…We will have an opponent for Jake Dirden and answers from Blake Steel as soon as we can get them!!! As always, doors open at 6:30pm, first bell 7pm,$10($5 kids). Whatever happens, get to the Lawford on 4-18 and……..ENTER THE PROVING GROUND!!!

Proving Ground Pro adds Ovirload vs Johnny Wisdom to THE HAPPENING

Two amazing athletes return to PGP on April 18th for a first time meeting in the squared circle. Ovirload had a breakout performance at our last show as half of the tag team MegaOvir, Johnny Wisdom made us take notice at last years LIVING THE DREAM show in a 6 man scramble. This time these two meet in a singles match with their skills on full display. This is two seriously red hot newcomers to PGP, amazingly high skill levels on each competitor makes this match a must see and puts the roster on notice that there are always new serious threats arriving in the Proving Ground. Ovirload vs Wisdom could be the match that steals the show and blows your mind!!! The Proving Ground is where you go to experience never before seen independent wrestling action! No one else but PGP will give you Ovirload vs Wisdom because it’s just that damn cool!!! Don’t sleep on a chance to be there live and in person

Ricky Cruz & Ron Powers: The Story of a Rivalry

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 20, 2015

By Patrick Brandmeyer

The tumultuous history between Ron Powers and Ricky Cruz has taken several interesting turns…and it took another turn last month in Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling.

Their story started years before they ever crossed paths in the East Carondelet Community Center. Each man has his own perspective on the situation: Ricky said that Ron deliberately injured his brother in a match in Puerto Rico, ending their dream of competing as a tag team. Ron said that he was a different person at the time and had changed since that era of his wrestling career.

 photo 1_zpshc4dcrfe.jpg

 photo 2_zpskwq7artd.jpg

 photo 2_zpsoacdejfj.jpg

The tension boiled over when Powers dished out a bloody beating to Cruz in the middle of the ring…that kicked off a wild series of matches with the SICW Classic Wrestling Championship at stake. In the end, Cruz walked away with the gold…but Powers never forgot who put that blemish on his record.

 photo 1_zpseldlvh6n.jpg

The two fought other competitors but their paths seemed to keep crossing at different points. When “Ironman” Ken Kasa cashed in on a promised title shot to steal the title from Cruz, it was Powers’ post-match beating that set the table for Kasa’s actions.

 photo 10_zps31d6fefe.jpg

Over time, Powers’ focus changed and the fans started to get behind the veteran’s no-nonsense attitude. That may have touched a nerve with Ricky Cruz…while they may have been on the same side at times, Ricky never forgot about what Powers had done to him in the past. That led Cruz to a spot as guest referee in a grudge match between Powers and Flash Flanagan…Ricky had no love lost for either man, but his more recent issue was with Flanagan.

It seemed like Cruz would call the match right down the middle, but he turned on Powers with a superkick out of nowhere to give Flash the victory. The longtime fan favorite was suddenly hearing boos…he insisted that he hadn’t changed, but the fans’ support of Powers had altered his perception of them. The feud was reignited with the popularity roles reversed, leading to some interesting alliances on either side.

The most interesting alliance was between Ricky Cruz and Travis Cook’s Organization. Despite the fact that it was Cook’s manipulations that led to the end of Ricky’s title reign, Ricky felt they had a common enemy and formed a tenuous partnership with Travis and company. The rival clashed in a loser-leaves-town match and it was the interference of the Travis Cook Organization and Flash Flanagan that led to Powers’ unceremonious exit from SICW.

 photo 00_zps76ec12dc.jpg

A few months later, manager Big Daddy brought in a masked newcomer named “Red River Jack”. The powerhouse racked up several impressive victories, but Ricky Cruz and Travis Cook suspected that RRJ wasn’t what he seemed. King Kong Brody had once competed under a hood with the Red River Jack name…and Ron Powers was once a protege of Brody. Cruz and Cook connected the dots and speculated that RRJ was actually Powers.

The war continued with Cruz siding with Cook’s stable against their common enemies…but Travis had made one too many enemies and it all came to a head in December. RRJ’s mask was on the line in a match with Ricky Cruz…and recent Cook rival Jim Cornette was the special guest referee.

 photo 13_zpsbxunw75v.jpg

On top of that, Jake Dirden was the ringside enforcer to ward off the interference of Cook’s Organization. Promoter Herb Simmons had ruled that if Ron Powers had violated the stipulation of the loser-leaves-town match by competing under the hood, he would be banned from SICW for life.

 photo 00_zpsvquklyib.jpg

Jake Dirden with Jim Cornette’s personal weapon of choice.

Chaos ensued as Ken Kasa and Flash Flanagan both got involved in the matchup…Cornette and Cook came to blows and Red River Jack got the win after whacking Cruz with Cornette’s trademark tennis racket. RRJ had retained his mask and Ron Powers made his official return to SICW at the start of 2015…but Travis Cook’s Organization was still intent on proving their point.

In the process, cracks started to form in the alliance between Cook and Ricky Cruz…Cook vowed that Kasa would be champion again, something that didn’t sit well with Ricky. That may have reminded Ricky about the circumstances that led to the end of his own title reign.

 photo 84_zpszuwdbmvb.jpg

During a tag match pitting Cruz and Kasa against Gary Jackson and Jim Hoffarth, Travis Cook tried to interfere but accidentally threw powder in Cruz’s eyes. Once Ricky recovered from the temporary impairment of his vision, he confronted Cook about his actions and then walked away from the match, leaving Kasa to lose in a two-on-one situation. Despite that turn of events, Travis Cook insisted that everything was fine in the Cruz/Cook alliance…and that led to the events of February 21st.

The main event between Red River Jack and Attila Khan turned into all-out pandemonium as Travis Cook’s Organization gang-attacked RRJ. Ken Kasa and new recruit Chris Hargas helped Khan triple-team the masked man while Big Daddy was handcuffed to the ringpost and unable to help. They restrained Jack while Travis called Ricky Cruz to the ring for the honor of removing the mask.
 photo 85_zps8cjoxspj.jpg

Ricky nearly got the hood off RRJ’s head…but then turned around and attacked the members of Travis Cook’s Organization! At the end of the night, Red River Jack’s identity remained unrevealed and Ricky Cruz stood tall, once again hearing the cheers of the fans…

 photo 86_zpsqnn1gshh.jpg

In the wake of last month’s event, Ricky told promoter Herb Simmons that he had let his issues with Ron Powers/Red River Jack cloud his judgment and led him to associate with the wrong people…he had experienced several changes in his life that had changed his perspective on a lot of things. Despite all of that, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to coexist with his old rival…he is scheduled to team with RRJ and Daniel Eads against the Travis Cook Organization at the next show. One thing is for sure: The story between Ricky Cruz and Ron Powers is far from finished.

Jake Dirden to defend Franchise title versus Mark Sterling at NEW FRONTIERS

“Dirdey” Jake Dirden returns to the Proving Ground with his Franchise title on February 21st and he’s looking for a fight. Currently the main man in PGP, Dirden just keeps upping his game with refined skills and veteran wiles to accentuate his original foundation of massive power and leverage. If an individual exists that can derail the freight train momentum of the champ it would be Mark Sterling. This is the debut of Sterling and he may be new to PGP fans, but as always you’ll see exactly why this man comes in with a shot at the big prize. Sterling is the goods on the independent circuit, besting all comers for years now with that nearly perfect combination of ring science and pure athletic talent. Preparation and conditioning are staples of Sterlings game, this man has the ability to fight all night and fight a little longer. He’ll need all that and more when he meets “.Dirdey” Jake Dirden one on one at the Lawford Theater(225 W Main Street, Havana,IL) in the main event of NEW FRONTIERS!!!

Blake Steel is fresh off the biggest single night of his wrestling career by winning the inaugural Buckley Cup ( besting Louis Lyndon, Ethan Page and Tommaso Ciampa in route to victory and earning a Franchise title shot for March in the process), but things are never easy in PGP as Steel receives far more than a mere tune up match when he faces Jeremy Wyatt for the first time. Jeremy earned the moniker “Belt Collector” by doing just that, accumulating dozens of championship belts in his storied career, simply put Wyatt routinely meets and beats the best this sport has to offer. Well aware of each others skill and reputation on the circuit, occasionally crossing paths in locker rooms at various shows, both are eager to meet in the squared circle and prove who is the superior athlete. This really is two of the very best, that’s fact, not hype, and this match should be appointment viewing for anyone who loves great pro wrestling. Steel versus Wyatt is the real deal, mark that date and don’t you dare miss this one, it’s going to be an epic fight!!!

The ever resourceful Perfect Addiction have combined ring skill and treachery to create a formula for success in Proving Ground Pro, putting this trio on the map and competition on notice. One duo that took notice is Team IOU, currently working their way to the top of the PGP tag team scene they see The Perfect Addiction as the perfect opportunity. In an attempt to neutralize potential outside the ring advantages being taken, Team IOU has recruited Paloma Starr to be their partner, forcing Lucy Mendez into the match and setting the stage for some spectacular tag team action.

The Perfect Addiction vs Team IOU and Paloma Starr is just one of the gems you’ll find at NEW FRONTIERS, this card is double stuffed with independent wrestling talent from top to bottom. Wilkins vs Schwanz vs Nice triple threat match added to NEW FRONTIERS

Three of PGP’s best fight for a big win February 21st when Remi Wilkins, “Pornstache” Peter Schwanz and Nelson”Mr.” Nice light up the Lawford Theater(225 W. Main, Havana,IL) with this spectacular elimination match. Fast rising star Remi Wilkins returns to the Proving Ground, having won over plenty of the PGP faithful as a double tough competitor with an electrifying personality. Peter Schwanz has a personality that’s won over few if any fans to date, but he may bring some around based purely on his skills and abilities in the ring, like it or not this guy knows how to win. Nelson”Mr.”Nice has found his brightest spotlight at the side of “Dirdey” Jake Dirden, being the man who originally brought our current Franchise champion to the Proving Ground. Mr. Nice isn’t a one trick pony, he’s a very formidable competitor in his own right and should never be taken lightly. Looking to shake the image of “the Dirden whisperer” and establish his own reputation is fueling Nelson to reach that next level. Three combatants in the ring creates chaos and maximizes the need to be opportunistic, it also creates wildly unpredictable action for the fans! No matter who gets their hand raised, this match is a guaranteed winner!!!

Wilkins vs Schwanz vs Nice joins an already rock solid line up that features Jake Dirden vs Mark Sterling, Blake Steel vs Jeremy Wyatt, Mario Crivello vs Kyle Matthews and Yabo Gustobo vs Marion Fontaine plus more great matches still to come!!! Cutting Edge Champion Mario Andrew Crivello vs Kyle Matthews at NEW FRONTIERS

Saturday, February 21st, the Lawford Theater(225W Main,Havana,IL) is the place to see PGP’s reigning Cutting Edge champion M.A.C. meet the debuting Kyle Matthews with the title hanging in the balance. Much awesomeness will occur as the treacherous Crivello battles one of independent wrestlings most technically sound competitors. Mario is still stinging from a tough loss to world class talent Tommaso Ciampa at the Buckley Memorial Tournament, expect him to be focused, intense and looking to remind people that he is a champion. A perfected art of villainy and a gifted knack for seizing opportunity has served Mario well in the Proving Ground so far, but NEW FRONTIERS is truly a new challenge.
Kyle Matthews is coming to make a statement by capitalizing on a chance to quickly capture a title that has a growing reputation and recognition. Cutting Edge is not only the title he’s after, it’s an apt description of Matthews talent in the ring as well. Coming out of Marietta,GA, Kyle has been lighting up the southeast for most of the last decade. Winning titles and meeting a who’s who of indy stars in promotions across the southeast, it’s time his skills get the wider notice they deserve. A sure way to do that is wresting the title away from the reigning champ, Kyle Matthews is fully capable of doing exactly that. Trained by the legendary “Nightmare” Ted Allen and battle tested by some of the best in the business, expect Kyle Matthews to impress!!!

Crivello vs Matthews is only one of the great matches on a fully loaded card of 100% wicked cool independent professional wrestling. Just $10($5for kids) makes this an amazingly affordable night of action(doors open 6:30pm, first bell 7pm)!!! Yabo has been wildly effective utilizing a bag of tricks to accentuate an unexpectedly high skill level in the squared circle, getting him the last laugh on most of his opponents. Marion Fontaine is fully capable of matching the repertoire of his adversary with an astounding array of moves and a a PhD in ring psychology. Vintage styling with a modern delivery make Fontaine a virtual “human time warp” with perhaps the best mustache in the business. MWR VS RING OF HONOR

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 25, 2015

I have been sitting here for the past couple of months speaking to fans about many of the great wrestling shows in the near future. Recently Proving Ground Pro ,Pro Wrestling Championship Series, High Risk Wrestling and St Louis Anarchy that have  exciting events that featured Ring of Honor Superstars Tommaso Ciampa, reDRagon, Jimmy Jacobs, and A.C.H.

That got me talking to several fans, promoters and wrestlers in the area to fantasy book a star studded night of wrestling that would feature wrestlers from the MWR coverage area and those from one of the hardest hitting promotions in the world today, Ring of Honor.

I tried to find matches that have not been done in this area (If so very rare) that promised to be hard hitting matches that could match any in the world today. After taking a moment to check out the list, feel free to send in your choices for this supercard.

Who did we miss? Was there a better match-ups?

Please note that is all for fun and in no way do I feel there should be this many matches on a card, but in good fun we will imagine this is a supercard double shot.

Ron Powers vs Michael Elgin

 photo michaelelgin2_zpsuwq9pktv.png

 photo IMG_6168_zpsialfjkzj.jpg

In a battle between two of the most powerful men in the Midwest in the past thirty years Michael Elgin vs Ron Powers would be a sight to see. Though Powers is several years older, we have seen at SICW that he can be down right scary for his opponents . I love big men and have been thrilled to photographed these two throughout the past 6 years . Each of them are old school in their approach in the fact that they give the fans a 100 percent each and every night and I would love to lock horns in the middle of the ring in 2015.

The Black Hand Warriors vs reDRagon

 photo 0a_zpsy9uleyxx.jpg

 photo fish_kyle_zpstnz3emup.jpg

Out of nowhere the Black Hand Warriors came in 2014 to become one of the best tag teams in the Midwest. A double champion at Harley Race’s World League Wrestling  and Dynamo Pro Wrestling under the tutelage of Travis Cook, they have been involved in some of exciting wars with the BumRush Brothers and High Level Enterprise. I feel as if reDRagon are the best tag team in the world today, and have been pleading for the promoter of High Risk Wrestling , Frank Thurman to sign this match.

Jeremy Wyatt vs. Alberto El Patrón

 photo 35_zps44027f17.jpg

 photo alberto2_zps06um139s.png

To be honest I could put Jeremy Wyatt in a match with a new student of Ring of Honor and I have no doubt that it would be among the best matches on the card.  Alberto El Patrón  has the wealth, the title history advantage of a 4-time World Champion, but if I know the Rebel as well as I do he would not wilt under pressure, thus making this is an historic match that would be talked about for years.

 photo mpppp_zps8iyhzwln.jpg

Editors note: Metro Pro Wrestling delivers to their fans THIS Friday night an exciting Jeremy Wyatt match against a Ring of Honor Superstar Christopher Daniels in Kansas City. This will be the second ever match between two of the most exciting stars in the country and a match that promises to be one of the best matches of 2015.

01/31/2015 Metro Pro Wrestling (Turner Recreation Center) 831 S. 55th St. Kansas City, KS 66106 Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Event starts at 7 p.m. Front Row: $20 General Admission: $15 Kids 5-12 (Does not count front row): $10 Under 5: Free

Darin Corbin vs. R.D.Evans

 photo DC_zpscgmnmnkc.jpg

 photo rdevansbio_0_zpswmbhywwl.png

I have a feeling that this match has been done before, and if so it makes sense. Both of these men are highly entertaining, and able to deliver an enjoyable match that would be very different that the series battles that we mentioned above.

Jake Dirden vs. Tommaso Ciampa

 photo tommaso2_zpsvlh8joap.png

 photo jake-dirden_zps4mjcakik.jpg

I once heard Jake Dirden say in an interview that he looked forward to wrestling against Ciampa; therefor I offer him the opportunity in my dream card. Honestly, this match would be very awesome as Ciampa is very capable of bringing out the beast in Dirden, and it maybe for the best as he will have to be at the top of his game to survive a focused Ciampa.

The Hooligans vs. The Briscoe Brothers

 photo tumblr_m5az8dj0qM1r3fvlyo1_500_zpsr5vttykn.png

 photo 550563_515213985185032_389463958_n_zpsjfisgmyp.jpg

My favorite Tag team today, the Briscoe Brothers meeting the#1 ranked  tag team in the Midwest during the MWR years. The Hooligans and the Briscoe Brothers are an obvious choice.

Mark Sterling vs. MOOSE

 photo moose2_zpsfs9kcxrc.png

 photo 48_zps65653acc.jpg

Mark Sterling has been a man that is considered to be among the most talented men in the Midwest.  I feel that deserves a spot at the E  for his work ethic and dedication in the ring. . Moose , a former NFL football player has the size and charisma to rise to the top of the sport, so it would be interesting to pit a man with a chip on his shoulder like Sterling against an Indy darling so young in his career in the one and only Moose.

Davey Vega vs. Christopher Daniels

 photo IMG_4856_zpszyuvybb5.jpg

 photo danielsfull_zps3qsvkrab.png

Vega has proved to many in 2014 that he is capable of defeating Ring of Honor Superstars, and a win against the ultra-talented , highly versatile Christopher Daniels would cement his reputation.

The Young Bucks vs. High Level Enterprise
