Gary Jackson is one of the most recognizable and respected wrestlers in St Louis for the past three decades. Bruiser Brody nicknamed him Night Train, he will be the first one to tell you that he is “Gorgeous”, but everyone agrees that the nickname “The Great One” is truly appropriate.

Since 1984 Jackson has been thrilling fans with top matches in St. Louis and around the country including WWE, NWA, WCW, and the now defunct USWA. You would think that this card is featuring a guy who has been out of the sport with all the accomplishments that he has had but there is no sign of him slowing down. Jackson overwhelms his opponents with true power and strength that is unbelievable for a man his age with no signs of slowing down. With the heart of the champion Jackson has been in main events for the MMWA Heavyweight title as well as the Classic Wrestling Championship at SICW.

Pick up this card that features a classic retro photo of Gary Jackson on the front and a great bio on the back that also features his 4 rules.

From the beast of Bruiser Brody comes the beauty of his wife Barbara Goodish.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 9, 2013

By Brian Kelley

Bruiser Brody is considered by many to be one of pro wrestling’s most charismatic men ever in the sport. Brody’s mystique continues to live to this day. Known as a very Independent and intelligent man who were blessed with skills and power that many only dreamed of.

Wrestling fans were able to catch an inside look at Brody through Larry Matysik’s ECW Press book named author of Brody: The Triumph and Tragedy of Wrestling’s Rebel. A great read for any wrestling fan on the career and battles that Brody had in and out of the ring with promoters and fellow wrestlers.

The book surprisingly was blessed with a true love story. In between the chapters Frank “BRODY” Goodish’s wife would tell the chain of events that would change her life forever. In the book a clear image of a man that fell in love with a girl while on tour overseas and though in the ring he was as vicious as could be. Yet, outside the ring he was a loving husband and a caring father.

We had the pleasure of working with Barbara as she gave us her blessings to have Brody be a part of the MWR Trading card set, which photo was drawn from the red hot artist Rob Schamberger. She was invited from SICW to celebrate the holidays in the Midwest with friends that Brody and her had made during his time in the ring at Wrestling at the Chase.

As we came to East Carondelet, Illinois for the night’s action we were welcomed from Promoter Herb Simmons’s wife Margaret who offered a seat next to her so we could pass out the Santa Hats for our MWR Holiday tour to the first seventy five fans that came through the door.

Photobucket

She had told us that she and Herb had a tiring but rewarding day as they were in East St Louis passing out toys to the children whose families were enduring tough times. I had found that to be very touching and inspirational because earlier this year the Simmons family had lost their house to a fire and instead of being bitter and non-caring to others they still found it in their hearts to continue giving.

In the back Barbara was being prepared to be interviewed by Larry Matysik and though I would have loved to have sat in and listened to their conversation we made our rounds to pass out Santa hats and to welcome the fans for a great night of wrestling.

Photobucket

Throughout the night Barbara was wonderful and kind to each fan and wrestler that came up for either an autograph or photo while many took the opportunity to get both. During one of the intermission ring announcer Ben Simon welcomed Barbara along with a few of the St Louis Wrestling Stars that had spent time with Brody to comment on what her husband had meant to them from a wrestling standpoint and personal level.

In the ring was several of the greats including a man that my friend Daryl Valle stated was an inspiration to him as a young fan, the manager Big Daddy, the former Classic Wrestling Champions Ron Powers and Danny Boy Hawkins who on this night had seemed to agree on a truce, Butcher Salviccio and the “Great One” Gary Jackson joined Barbara for a touching moment.

Herb took the time to introduce a fan who was such a big fan of Brody that he had a tattoo in honor of the man himself on his back.

Photobucket

Afterwards Barbara once again took time to meet with the fans and was genuinely excited about having her photo taken with Santa Clause, who had come in from the North Pole to meet the fans of SICW.

During a conversation with Barbara, she spoke about how much fun she had on her trip back to St. Louis. Awesome to hear because she deserved nothing less as the fans raved about her friendliness.

Though it seems like yesterday that we lost Brody to the world, the years have indeed passed by, but it is truly refreshing to see that the friends that she made in the wrestling world still care about her to this day. The Holidays is about loving and caring for each other and on this night the SICW fans, wrestlers, promoters and the Goodish family kept that dream alive as smiles were from the front of the room to the back. I can only imagine a massive man by the name of Frank “Brody” Goodish looking down proud that the sport is truly filled with genuine caring people.

MWR Trading Card 84 – Bruiser Brody

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 2, 2012

Bruiser Brody, say the name to anyone involved in wrestling around the world past or present and there are many different emotions involved with each person. Brody was a hero to many, a rebel to others and seen as an enemy to many that wanted to control him.

If Hulk Hogan was the most popular, if Ric Flair was the greatest then Brody very the master of providing fear in not only the fans but the wrestlers themselves. A man who stood up for what he believed in Brody as wrestling was heading to the cartoon world of “Sports entertainment”. Brody continued the legacy of pro wrestling as a brutal, exciting and often bloody contest. Standing 6’8″ while weighing 325 pounds Brody demanded respect as an athlete first and foremost.

Brody’s tours of Japan cemented him as a legend while his battles with the best of the best including the likes of Andre the Giant, Bruno Sammartino, Dusty Rhodes, Abdullah the Butcher and Antonio Inoki .

Brody was an instant draw for promoters for over 13 plus years including being a former NWA Central States Champion by defeating “Bulldog” Bob Brown April 10, 1980 Kansas City, KS and drew  huge houses in St. Louis for Sam Muchnick’s NWA.

PWI ranked him #14 of the 500 best singles wrestlers of the “PWI Years” in 2003. Brody was inducted into the St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame Class in 2007. Other awards included with the Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards 5 Star Match (1984) with Stan Hansen vs. Dory and Terry Funk on December 8, Best Brawler (1980–1984, 1987, 1988), Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame (Class of 1996).

Before ECW, Brody could wrestle with the best of them, was the king of hardcore and truly underrated with his promo skills.

This card is the effort and work of three wonderful people Barbara Goodish, Larry Matysik, and Rob Schamberger.

While the men and women that I personally would dream of having in the MWR set from the start included Harley Race, Ric Flair, MsChif and Bruiser Brody I could not possibly do it without the permission of his wife Barbara Goodish.

Barbara Goodish– While myself and the fans lost a favorite wrestler during the tragic events in Puerto Rico during Frank “Bruiser Brody” Goodish murder, the hard part was that a family lost a loving husband, father and friend. When I picked up the book Brody: The Triumph and Tragedy of Wrestling’s Rebel, I have to be honest I was skeptical how interested I would be when I saw that she would be sharing the story with Larry Matysik. When the final page was turned I felt ashamed of myself for feeling that way as Goodish brought out the reality of the situation. You got to see the real side of the man Bruiser Brody the man inside. I knew I couldn’t just make a card and money out of Brody without the blessing of the love of his wife. I am honored that Barbara gave us her permission to do a card to honor her husband for our card set.

Larry Matysik- The voice of Wrestling at the Chase is loved and respected not only in St. Louis but around the country. The right hand man of NWA President Sam Muchnick was instrumental to making ST. Louis the heart of the sport. It would only be proper that Brody’s friend and author of his autobiography to do the Bruiser Brody MWR Trading card.

To purchase this great book click here.

Rob Schamberger– The card also features not only one but two photos of Brody from the hottest wrestling artist in the country Rob Schamberger. Schamberger like myself is a huge fan of Brody and stated that “I could draw Bruiser Brody all day long every day, if things went incredibly right in my life! There’s something about his energy, his intensity, his overall wildman look, that makes him a thrill to portray.”

This card is a must have for any fan of Bruiser Brody fan and it can be yours for only $3.00.

Breaking news: Has NWA’S Howard T Brody and Larry Brannon signing of the NWA National Heavyweight Champion Chance Prophet vs. the Tokyo Monster Kahagas put the NWA on the map again?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on December 14, 2011

By Brian Kelley- MWR Owner and Editor

Photobucket

Hot news tonight coming in from Fort Lauderdale, Florida as the former High Voltage Wrestling Champion Kahagas tore the roof down in Fort Lauderdale, Fla against the NWA National Heavyweight Champion Chance Prophet for NWA Ring Warriors in a title match.

Photobucket

In the house was the former National Wrestling Alliance President Howard T. Brody, and former 3 time NWA World Tag Team Champion and now Chief Operations Officer Larry Brannon  were on hand for what one MWR correspondent in Florida called the most brutal match in the NWA since the days of Harley Race and Ric Flair, Bruiser Brody and Abdullah just to name a few.

The night was filled with Superstars as the NWA World Tag Team Champions, the Dark City Fight Club (Jon Davis and Kory Chavis), were defended their titles against two members of pro wrestling’s most heralded and often controversial stables, Degeneration X, in “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn and “X-Pac” Sean Waltman.

Photobucket

The Original Diva” Sunny” made her way to NWA Ring Warriors, as was the “Midwest Sweetheart” herself Santana G. Sunny gave the highest of compliments when she stated that Santana G was the top female talent not signed by the WWE today.

Photobucket

Santana G has worked hard to earn the respect of some of the best in the business have taken notice. From the best in the business such as MsChif, Scott Hall, X-Pac, to the greatest Diva of them all Sunny. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Yet, at the end of the night all the fans could talk about was the brutal NWA National Heavyweight title match between the two warriors that went at it with neither of them backing down. Inside the ring Kahagas and Chance Prophet delivered chops and punches that echoed throughout the building . Outside the ring, it would only get uglier as both men would be disqualified as they went at each other with a vengeance.

Our sources state that both men were far from calling it done on this night, but they will have to wait another day to settle the score to see who truly is the best man.

Earlier this fall we saw the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce electrify the crowd at Metro Pro Wrestling in Kansas City against Michael Strider.

With HVW promoter TNT Keny G scouting out talent in Florida this week, MWR believes that the chances of the NWA National Heavyweight Champion Chance Prophet giving a rematch to Kahagas in the Midwest is very likely.

Should it happen at HVW, Dynamo Pro Wrestling or Metro Pro Wrestling it has the chance to be the match of the year in the Midwest in 2012.

Ricky Cruz seeks revenge on Ron Powers plus MsChif and Serenity debuts in East Carondelet this Saturday .

Posted by flairwhoooooo on December 5, 2011

By Brian Kelley

MMWA-SICW and promoter Herb Simmons will be giving you, the fans a Christmas show that you will not soon forget. First he has sent word that as a holiday gift for fans of women wrestling, there will be a debut at SICW of two of the best today going at it one on one.

Photobucket

It will be ST Louis’s own and arguably the best female wrestler to come out of the Midwest since Penny Banner and there is  no doubtshe is  the most popular star in St Louis today, Thats right  “Your souls Tormentor” MsChif will debut for MMWA-SICW.

Photobucket
Fans young and old, are thrilled to see MsChif in action, can Serenity be a scrooge and get a victory over one of the very best females in the world?

Her opponent will be rising female star Serenity.

Photobucket

This will mark only the second time since these two have met. The first was March 27, 2010 at HVW during a tag match as Serenity teamed up with Florida star Jessika Haze in a losing effort against MsChif and the Midwest Sweetheart Santana G.

The experts are excited about this match up and feel as if Serenity, who at that time during their first match was very new to ring   and not ready for MsChif . She has improved her game, to be not only be in a match with MsChif, but able to capture the biggest win in her career this Saturday night.

There has been no doubt that the name Serenity has been the talk of the Midwest in Central Illinois in 2011 ,  and many feel thst om 2012  it may be a year the year Serenity in the female division.

We were able to catch up with MsChif on her match this coming Saturday December 10th in East Carondelet , Illinois.

Fans at the MMWA-SICW in East Carondelet will be treated to a rocking and bruising Christmas as Ricky Cruz looks to get retribution on Ron Powers this Saturday. Fans last month got to see one of the most brutal beat down ever in MMWA-SICW history.

Let’s look back at a small recap from the last recap at MWR Mayhem in East Carondelet as Ricky Cruz feels the wrath of Ron Powers- World War 3 is just beginning.

Cruz admitted that he centered his efforts on the St. Louis area because it was the base for Powers. When Powers worked in Puerto Rico several years ago, according to Cruz, Powers used his piledriver and other assorted violent tactics to sideline several wrestlers – one of whom was Cruz’ older brother. That brother suffered neck damage and still has pain even after curtailing his career. Cruz swore to get revenge on Powers, especially after seeing Powers used a piledriver against Dave Vaughn on the floor Oct. 15.

Cruz promised to be “Powers’ judge, jury and executioner.”

This brought Powers to the ring.Ron denied knowing about Cruz’ brother. He also graphically described being a young kid with a big reputation alone in Puerto Rico, billed as the protégé of Bruiser Brody, fighting off attacks from unexpected sources and pulling out the stops in every match. He added that he had changed, was now a father of three himself and only carried on as a Wildman to satisfy the fans and promoter Herb Simmons, along with longtime mentor Larry Matysik. He apologized to Cruz, said he was ready to quit, would give Cruz the Classic title, and if he had injured the brother was sincerely sorry and wrong.

To see what happen next please click here. ( Fans with a weak stomach be prepared for the images of the aftermath is very graphic.

MWR was able to catch up with Ryan Cruz this weekend who had this warning to the CCW Champion Ron Powers.

Do not miss this historic night of action, December 10th in East Carondelet Illinois for a Christmas celebration Christmas style.

Dingo wrestles across the country, trains Midwest talent

Posted by reimaginejournalism on July 2, 2009

By Kari Williams

After battling in a losing effort for the Lethal Wrestling Alliance (LWA) Tag Team Championship with NickTyson, Dingo talks with fellow wrestlers backstage after the show. His endearing personality engages his Dynamo Training Gym Student Brandon Aarons. They joke about events of the past few days. Despite the calm exterior, a burning desire for pride and success lies within the Independent Wrestling Association-Mid South (IWA-Mid South) Heavyweight Champion.

“I want to go across the world. I want to work for Vince McMahon one day, eventually. I know all the independent guys [say], ‘Oh, I want to work for Vince,’ but I really, really do,” Dingo explains with intense determination burning in his eyes.

Dingo has traveled the country working for promotions such as Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling, and Full Impact Pro (Florida), as well as numerous Midwest Promotions. Photo by Brian Kelley

Dingo has traveled the country working for promotions such as Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling, and Full Impact Pro (Florida), as well as numerous Midwest Promotions.

“I mean, that’s the top of the mountain, what else are you going to aspire to? Work for World Wrestling [Entertainment]…I step back to the box, and I realize I’m a little guy, and is it possible for me to win the championship? It is; it’s not beyond means, but is it probable? I don’t know. We’ll see what happens in the future,” he continued.

With the future still uncertain, Dingo focuses on the present, where he travels the country working for Combat Zone Wrestling, Ring of Honor (ROH), Full Impact Pro (FIP) and an assortment of other companies. His ‘big break’ came from Samoa Joe when they worked on the same card, and he told Dingo to come to Chicago, IL. Although Dingo did not wrestle on the show because it was booked full, another opportunity came his way.

“Joe looked at me, and he said, ‘Right now, you make your promise that you’ll come to Detroit, and I’ll make sure that you wrestle in Detroit.’ Joe was retiring that night from Ring of Honor because he was moving on to TNA, and I said, ‘I make you that promise right now,’ and he goes, “Okay.” So, I went to Detroit, and I got on, and that was the rocket that just blew my ass into independent wrestling,” Dingo said.

From that moment on, Dingo immersed himself in his new world and never looked back. Perhaps seeing that burning passion, ROH Star Davey Richards gave Dingo another means with which to excel.

“Davey Richards really, really helped me out. Davey Richards, as much of a hardass as he can be, every now and then just a tiny bit shines through and if you grab on to it, Davey’ll fuckin’ help you out. But you pay for it. You pay for it. He’s a tough dude. He’s a tough dude…God, he’s tough. He’ll beat the crap out of you.

“Davey helps me—and I know a lot of people too—but very few times is it like, ‘Hey, you’re invited,’ based on your work ethic. And that just really helped me seal the deal,” Dingo said with pride emmiting from his being.

Both Richards and Dingo act as Co-Trainers at the St. Louis-based Dynamo Training Gym, which Dingo, Jim Yount and Crystal Yount opened approximately two years ago. According to Dingo, Dynamo acts as, “a conservatory for wrestling where people can hone their skills,” and not worry about company affiliation.

One of Dingo’s students, who wishes to remain anonymous, attributes nearly all of his success to the training he has received at Dynamo.

“[Dingo has] helped me with everything wrestling wise. He taught me 95 percent of the things I know from wrestling; he’s taught me about respect and what not to do and how to act, in front of fans and in front of other wrestlers, and he’s gotten me to IWA already, and I’m sure he’ll get me to bigger and better places in the future,” the student said.

The IWA-Mid South Heavyweight Champion can attest to that claim through his own experiences and his own connections in the wrestling industry.

“If you really want to earn it, and you do earn it, we’ll help you go to places like IWA, places like FIP, if you want to go to Ring of Honor. We have connections with TNA. I came up in the same school as Delirious and MsChif and Daizee Haze and Evan Bourne. We’re all from the same group. We’re all from the same mold. We’re all doing things on the road. Delirious, and MsChif and Daizee all work for Ring of Honor and Shimmer. Evan Bourne works for the [WWE]. That’s what we do. We provide the ability to move it on,” Dingo said.

As a student of Dingo’s since July 2006, Aarons can attest to his trainer’s statement.

“[Dingo] has more experience and knowledge as a wrestler than anyone one in the area, and he knows what you have to do to take it to the next level. He wants the best out of the wrestlers he trains, and he is willing to work with you if you are willing to give it all you have,” said Aarons.

A protégé of Dingo’s, “Spitfire” Davey Vega, has earned a wealth of knowledge in the three years that the two have worked together.

“He has increased my stamina, my agility and my overall confidence in myself as a person and a wrestler. He has also helped me get my name out by allowing me to travel with him and the opportunity to learn from him and my peers,” Vega said.

Dingo looks at wrestling as a ‘you get what you give’ type of business that he holds dear to his heart.

“Basically, wrestling is about paying it forward, and if you earn your keep [at Dynamo] through rigorous physical activity, I will show the wealth of what I’ve learned. And that’s the way I was taught. You give this gift, and if you’re deemed worthy, you’ll get the receipt of the gift. And it’s really hard. It’s very, very hard. Very rigorous. People think that it’s not all that bad, but it’s amazingly hard,” Dingo said with a sincere seriousness about his voice.

Aarons echoes Dingo’s warning. After three years of training with the IWA-Mid South Champ, Aarons continues to learn. On April 18, 2009 Aarons had the opportunity to wrestle his mentor in LWA. This was Aarons chance to prove that he is a legitimate competitor, that he could hang with, in his opinion, the best in the Midwest.

“I knew what to expect coming into the match, but Dingo is amazing. He has so many things he can puill out of know where, and even though I have been training with him for three years, he still caught me off guard—Proof that with experience comes great skill, which he attains to the maximum degree,” said Aarons.

A number of wrestlers, including “Thee” Brandon Espinosa and Aarons, have named Dingo as one who taught them the most about the business. Aarons went so far as to say that he “would not be the wrestler I am today without him. I would not have the confidence and intelligence on the business that I have today without him.”

With nervous laughter, Dingo said, “I feel very worried and very blessed and very honored by that. I worry because I don’t want them to get hurt or ruin themselves doing stupid stuff that I did because I tell them to go out there and give there all. And sometimes their all means they’ll put themselves at very, very big risks, but I feel very blessed and honored at the same time. I don’t have any children, but I liken it to seeing you put that thought process [in their heads], and they turn around and make good out of it.”

The zeal with which Dingo both trains and performs in front of the crowds makes him a role model for other wrestlers just breaking into the business.

“There is nobody in the world that I look up to more than Dingo. Nobody. Not my parents. Not Bruiser Brody. Not Jesus. Nobody,” the Dynamo Trainee said.

In the next five to 10 years, Dingo hopes to go to Japan and earn a contract or work for TNA or WWE. He realizes the difficulty that sits in front of him, but has no desire to hang up the boots. He will push forward and pursue his dream.

“It’s hard to imagine because I’m a small person. I’m not going to deny the fact of what I am, but at this point in this time from this moment on, I’m putting myself on the line because it’s now or never,” Dingo said.

From bell to bell, from New Jersey to Florida, whether he wrestles the first match on the card or the last, one can rest assure that Dingo will not leave professional wrestling without leaving his mark—not only in the Midwest, but throughout the country.

They had on display an autograph Cape from Hulk Hogan’s character Thunderlips from the movie Rocky 3 that really impressed me and for the younger generation there is a Rey Mysterio worn mask from his days in WCW.
