Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 27, 2013

 photo ADAMPearce_zps8cc106cd.jpg

During 2012, Adam Pearce would wrestle in five MWR promotions, 3XWrestling, Magnum PRO Wrestling, Metro Pro Wrestling, Dynamo Pro Wrestling and All American Pro Wrestling. During his trips to those promotions he would give wrestlers and artist in the Midwest a great wrestling highlight including Jeremy Wyatt, “Babyface” Tony Cortez, Michael Strider, Rob Schamberger, Kahagas, Ricky Cruz, Heath Hatton, Steven J Girthy, Mark Sterling, ACH and Miss Natural.

Pearce has shown leadership, ring excellence and Professionalism that any NWA Champion of  today and yesterday would have been proud of. Each and every time Pearce made an appearance in the Midwest, it was big news in wrestling.

It was with great honor that we caught up with the 2012 MWR Wrestler of the Year Adam Pearce to present him his MWR Award for 2012 at Metro Pro Wrestling.

Look for MWR to present the 2012 MWR Tag Team of the Year to the American Bulldogs, Mark McDowell and Jon West at this Friday night at 3XWrestling.

We would like to thank each and every fan, wrestler, and promoter for their support of MWR and your local pro wrestling near you.

2012 Missouri Wrestling Revival Wrestler of the Year – Adam Pearce

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 1, 2013

The Year of Pearce

Photobucket

One of the most gifted wrestlers in the World today, Adam Pearce would give the fans a roller coaster full of emotion with each and every opponent he met. Photo Credit Wikkd Heir Photography.

When 2012 started Adam Pearce entered the year during his fourth reign as the NWA champ. As a fighting champion Pearce had returned the tradition of defending the World title back in Kansas City against Michael Strider for the first time in over years.

In a classic battle, Strider had thought he had reached a lifelong dream of becoming the NWA World Champion after pinning the champ. Yet, his dream was turned into reality as the match was restarted following Matt Murphy saying Strider’s pin over Pearce was void because Pearce’s foot was under the bottom rope during the pinfall.

Photobucket

Pearce would defend his title in the first NWA World’s Heavyweight title match in Des Moines since 1986 at 3XWrestling on January 27, 201 to meet “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt. Wyatt considered by many to be the greatest wrestler during the MWR Years had earned the respect from fans around the Midwest. The city of Des Moines, Iowa shook as the 3XW fans and Wyatt jumped to their feet after Wyatt had pinned Pearce.

Pure happiness would turn to anger as they saw Referee Jeromy Robb have the second ref (that had come in after being inadvertently crushed by both men in the corner) Steve Biley notified the ring announcer that he saw Mark Sterling hit Pearce with the Spear and that Wyatt had in fact been disqualified! As a result, Pearce retained the title.

This match would catch the eyes of the wrestling world for Jeremy Wyatt as PWI would rank him in their official NWA rankings at number seven in the world.

Photobucket

The next day Pearce would offer his advice and knowledge to the wrestlers around the Midwest for a training seminar at Magnum PRO Wrestling in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Pearce and Magnum PRO gave MWR the honor of sitting in on the day as Pearce was respectful to all and worked with each student in the ring to improve their skills in the ring.

Photobucket

That evening Peace would defend his NWA World title at Magnum PRO against the tough as nails, popular Omaha, Nebraskan “Babyface” Tony Cortez. Cortez fought with the heart and fire that he is loved for but Pearce once again walked out as a four time NWA World Champion.

News would break within days of the Pearce- Cortez match via a video that Pearce would be returning to the St. Louis area, home of Lou Thesz, Harley Race and Sam Muchnick for the first time in years . In the video he offered the chance for anyone to sign the open contract for the NWA World title for Dynamo Pro Wrestling on April 6th.

Wrestling news media around the world got to see the former NWA World Champion Steve Corino urge his friend “The Tokyo Monster” Kahagas to sign on the dotted line to meet Pearce one on one.

Photobucket

Just a few days before the match there would be even more significance as Kahagas would win the NWA National title on March 29 in Miami, Florida from Chance Prophet at the NWA Ring Warriors Battle of the belts.

Photobucket

On Friday night at Dynamo Pro Wrestling fans would see Pearce and Kahagas fight each other with a vengeance, but would retain the NWA World title via disqualification. Pearce’s tactics during and after the match brought out Kahagas’s good friend Ricky Cruz to get order maintained at Dynamo Pro.

Photobucket

The very next night, April 7th Pearce would return to Kansas City at Metro Pro to take on Matt Murphy. Murphy had been Harley Race first graduate student, and had the opportunity to wrestle in both WWE and Japan’s Pro Wrestling Noah in his career. Pearce would be in top form withstanding a hard fighting Murphy in convincing fashion.

After the match Strider announced that he was wrestling his very last match and he wanted one more shot at the 10 pounds of Gold on June 2nd at Metro Pro Wrestling. When it looked like Strider had pinned Pearce during November 21, 2011, the NWA website had made the mistake as announcing Strider as the World Champion before finding out that the match had to restart. Thus fans had already known that Strider was more than capable of riding home in the sunset as the NWA World Champion.

Life has a way of throwing you curve balls, as Striders rematch at the NWA World title would go up in flames. Less than 24 hours of the announcement of their match Pearce would loss the title to arch rival Colt Cabana in Glendale, California on April 8th.

This would set the stage for the Seven levels of Hate series between the new NWA World Champion Colt Cabana and Pearce in a best of seven different matches around country for the winner laying claim as the best in the world.

Pearce would be looking for positive momentum for their matches as he met competition in between the Seven Levels of Hate.

Photobucket

On June 1st he was signed to wrestle against red hot Ricky Cruz at Dynamo Pro Wrestling. Any doubts that Cruz was not for real was washed away when he nailed Pearce with the devastating Cruz Control to pin the former champ.

Photobucket

On June 2nd, Magic will be in the air for Metro Pro Wrestling at the Turner Rec Center for Michael Striders retirement match. Family, friends, fans and even enemies came up in droves to see one of the top stars in Kansas for the past twenty years seek revenge on Pearce.

Photobucket

For the special occasion Kansas City wrestling artist Rob Schamberger presented Michael Strider with a portrait of the man himself. As they were celebrating, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce destroyed the painting over Strider’s head thus infuriating the crowd. At the end of the night it would be Strider who would have the last laugh when after many thrilling moments, Strider would have the biggest and best match of his career.

On July 21st, the wrestling world eyes would be back on Midwest once again as Pearce and Cabana was set to wrestle match 4 in the Seven Levels of Hate match number four. Pearce had his back against the wall as Cabana was down 3-0 in the series and with one more loss the Seven Levels of Hate would be Cabana’s brightest moment. Add on the fact that he was suffering with flu like symptoms that day and the match was set to be two out of three falls, it would that a test of true heart and grit for him to even wrestle,

For the first time in Kansas City since September 17, 1981 when Ric Flair defeated Dusty Rhodes the NWA title would change hands when Pearce defeated Cabana.

Less than a day later All American Pro Wrestling announced that the hottest young star in Southern Illinois, Heath Hatton was set to meet Adam Pearce on September 22nd in Marion Illinois for the NWA World title. This would mark the first time in many years that the NWA World title was defended in Southern Illinois.

Photobucket

Hatton would be tested in the biggest match of his career and though he would come up just up short, the experience and confidence that he earned during that match against Pearce will help him for years to come.

On the National scene Pearce would go on to lose the Seven Levels of Hates series and was no longer the NWA World Champion. It looked as if Pearce’s contribution in the Midwest had come to a close in 2012.

Yet, the year was not done as Pearce would have his old ally; Metro Pro Wrestling Commissioner Steven J Girthy set “Santa” aka himself up in a match for ACH’s Central States title on December 8th.

“Santa” would enlist the help of Elf Natural “Miss Natural” in his quest to capture the title during the final show at Metro Pro Wrestling.

Photobucket

ACH finds himself getting the gift he always wanted as a kid, plus a rare victory over Adam Pearce to end 2012 at Metro Pro Wrestling- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Pearce would end the night and year in the Midwest with a loss, but for the Metro Pro Wrestling fans it was a win as the match featured one of the best in the world today with one of the hottest young wrestlers in the world today, ACH.

Pearce has shown leadership, ring excellence and Professionalism that any NWA Champion of yesterday would have been proud of. Each and every time Pearce made an appearance in the Midwest, it was big news in wrestling.

That is why it is with great respect and admiration we name Adam Pearce as the 2012 MWR Wrestler of the Year.

Where we would like to see Adam Pearce in 2013?

With Harley Race’s World League Wrestling set to start up TV it would be great too see two of the greatest NWA World Champions of all time in the same building. No one can talk the fans into their seats faster in 2013 than Pearce so WLW would welcome to have a great promo man like Pearce on the roster.

We would love to see if these two great minds could co-exist in one promotion.

Photobucket

Ricky Cruz added a big boost to the Midwest in 2012. After knocking Ron Powers off of his throne at SICW to become the Classic Wrestling Champion, he entertained fans at Metro Pro Wrestling, Dynamo Pro and ended the year being the number one contedor for Jeremy Wyatts 3XW Championship. Add on the fact that he met with kids in the community and universally loved Cruz was chosen 1ST runner up in 2012 – Photo Credit Brian Kelley

1ST Runner Up- Ricky Cruz

Minnesota Vikings Running Back Adrian Peterson has nothing on Jeremy Wyatt for coming back from an injury . The Belt Collector was racking up titles and match of the year candidates one after another at the start of 2012. Wyatt nearly defeated Pearce for the NWA World title from Pearce, revenged his IRON MAN loss to Mark Sterling to win the 3XW Championship and making Midwest powerhouse Bull Schmitt tap out for the Metro Pro Wrestling title. As Wyatt was going for the AAPW Championship from Edmund McGuire, tragedy struck and Wyatt when down with an injury. Both MPW and 3XW stripped him of his two belts but it would take less than 4 months till he was back and before the year was up Wyatt had regained both titles back. Amazing – Photo credit Brian Kelley

2nd Runner Up – Jeremy Wyatt

Photobucket

AHC had a phenomenal year in 2012, winning the Metro pro Wrestling Central States titles, while having a breakout year around the country. His matches with Jeremy Wyatt and TJ Perkins are among the best of the year. Exciting and charismatic fans are forced to keep their eyes on the ring or dare to miss out on the excitement. If not for such a great year from Pearce, Cruz and Wyatt in the MWR coverage area, ACH would have laid claim for the 2012 MWR Wrestler of the year.- Photo courtesy of Metro Pro Wrestling

#7LevelsOfHate – DVD Teaser One 1:30

In each of us, two natures are at war — the good and the evil. All our lives the fight goes on between them, and one of them must conquer. But in our own hands lies the power to choose — what we want most to be, we are.”
Robert Louis Stevenson

Two natures firmly at war: Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana and “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce.

And so it was: Friends for half a lifetime, coming apart at the seams, and their journeys culminating in a series of battles so brutal, so filled with vitriol, that these seven battles could only be described by one word: HATE.

Seven different matches. Seven different stipulations. Seven different cities around the world.

This is the story of independent wrestling’s greatest rivalry.

This is SEVEN LEVELS OF HATE.

Feud of the year rewind- Cabana vs. Pearce: Stages 1-3

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 18, 2012

Photobucket

Independent wrestling icons Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana and “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce have spent the better part of the last two years decimating one another throughout the United States in what many insiders believe is 2012’s professional wrestling Feud of the Year, aptly entitled #7LevelsOfHate.

After losing the legendary NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship to Cabana on two occasions, Pearce laid it all on the line and issued the ultimate challenge to settle this vendetta: A battle to the bitter end through the ultimate Best-of-Seven series. #7LevelsOfHate features seven unique and equally brutal stipulation matches in seven different cities.

Photobucket

The premise was simple: if Pearce were to win he’d get the validation and retribution he craves. If Cabana were to take the series, Pearce would leave the National Wrestling Alliance FOREVER. Between the chaos of the matches themselves, the hatred and bloodshed, and the epic storytelling in an era where the steak takes a backseat to the sizzle, #7LevelsOfHate has run through six stages of the series to rave reviews by fans and insiders alike.

As the series is set for the seventh and final war — taking place October 27, 2012 in Melbourne, Australia within a STEEL CAGE – please join us in looking back at Stages One through Three of #7LevelsOfHate.

This fantastic 20:00 feature is the first of a two-part video rewind created by the talented Steve Ward in advance of the October 27, 2012 final war between Cabana and Pearce and chronicles the origins of the series, and every step along the way. From the confrontations and contract signings, to the matches and mayhem, #7LevelsOfHate Rewind will tell a tale sure to be remembered.

After viewing this video we are convinced that you will come to the same conclusions as fans who have witnessed it live: Colt Cabana and Adam Pearce have delivered a performance for the ages in this series; giving wrestling fans the world over a true and history-making alternative to the campy foray displayed on mainstream television. Of this there can be no doubt.

And now, we present #7LevelsOfHate Rewind – Cabana vs. Pearce: Stages 1-3. Parental discretion is advised.

Here we share with you the first 3 classic posters from the #7LevelsOfHate from with all images courtesy of Neal Snow including the upcoming Stage 7 match.

Adam Pearce captures the NWA World title for the 5th time in Kansas City at Metro Pro Wrestling.

By Brian Kelley

Adam Pearce captures the NWA World title in Kansas City at Metro Pro Wrestling from Colt Cabana.

In the past the Midwest has caused “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce some pain and stress, but July, 21st will go down in his career and history as the day the NWA World title returned in his hands for the fifth time.

Colt Cabana and Adam Pearce has been to war many times in the past against each other but in 2012 the wrestling world was introduced with a best of seven called the Seven Levels of Hate. The matches would be featured in many of the top NWA promotions in the country with a different stipulation.

As the series started Cabana stood tall as the NWA Worlds Champion and momentum on his side. In the first match at NWA Championship Wrestling Holywood California from Glendale, California the battle would go toe to toe in a First Blood match. Many wrestling experts felt this was one match going in that Pearce had the advantage but Cabana showed his versatility by winning the match and putting doubt in the former 4-time NWA Worlds Champions head.

In round two, at New England Championship Wrestling in Bridgetown, Massachusetts the two men would battle in a Boston Street fight with Cabana once again getting his hand raised while taking a 2-0.

No one in the sport and most definitely Pearce himself believed that Pearce would be down 3-0 heading into Kansas City on July 21st.. Yet, that is what happened at Steel Domain Wrestling in the Hopkins Pavilion Hopkins, Minnesota as Pearce would suffer a heartbreaking loss during an “I quit “match. Pete Waggoner’s title for his article on the story said it all “Match best ever in SDW 15-year history”.

Cabana would catch Pearce in a Boston crab and with nowhere to go and no other choice Pearce said the words “I quit”. Cabana was one win away from winning the series and the chance to sweep his arch rival Pearce in Kansas City at Metro Pro Wrestling.

With his back against the wall and his career on the line, Pearce was reportedly running a temperature of a 102 degree fever in quite possibly his biggest match in 16 years in the ring. Pearce headed into the match at the Turner Rec Center knowing full well that it had been over thirty years September 17th, 2012 since the NWA title had changed hands in Kansas City when Ric Flair defeated Dusty Rhodes to win “The ten pounds of gold”.

To make the mountain an even bigger obstacle to overcome the match would have to be won by not just one falls, but a two of out of three falls. A packed crowd filled the Metro Pro home as Pearce would make history by becoming a five time NWA Worlds Champion in a great match.

The NWA title is again around the waist of Pearce, but one loss against “Boom Boom” Cabana for the champ and he will lose it all, the title and his career in just 1-2-3 seconds.

Photobucket

As the series goes into stage five with Pearce down 1-3 and the reality that Cabana has taken the title from him not once, but twice he can breath for the moment and smile as he is now a 5-time NWA Worlds Champion.

Michael Strider celebrates his career on June 2nd, with his final match against Adam Pearce.

One fan said it best in Chicago on a card filled with some of the best in the game including MsChif, Tiger Mask, Low Ki, Jay Lethal and Bryan Danielson (WWE’S Daniel Bryan) “Strider you’re the best wrestler no one ever heard of.”

No statement has more truth in it than that one. Strider a local star in the Midwest has thrilled fans in match after match for years while never gaining the true recognition that he deserved outside of his area.

I had the pleasure to speak to Strider as he prepares to meet a foe that he is very familiar with. The former 4-time NWA World Champion Adam Pearce in Striders last match at the Turner Rec Center on June 2nd, 2012.

Strider’s relationships with his fans are rare as the chants of Strider Nation are testimony to his popularity while his matches have left the fans wanting more.

During the interview the former NWA Central States Champion, I could tell that he still had the love for the sport of pro wrestling but felt that his days contributing in the ring were done. He stated that he didn’t see the retirement as a bad thing but more of a celebration of his career and he hopes that many of the old fans that used to come see him as well as the new fans and those that stuck around for years will all be there that night.

He wants to see his former opponents and teammates in the seats as he locks up with Pearce in a night of action that he believes will show the fans that have lost their love for the way the WWE has been providing sports entertainment has a place for the way wrestling was meant to be at Metro Pro Wrestling.

Strider grew up in Lebanon, Missouri with his three brothers and three sisters while watching his wrestling with his dad. While his father’s favorite was “Handsome” Harley Race, Striders inspirations to be a pro wrestler came from the likes of Ric Flair, Terry Funk, and Bruiser Brody.

His beginnings were humble as he looked to become a wrestler in the wrestle boom of the 90’s as he attended a promotion called Midland Empire Wrestling which was run by Steve Estes. During the conversations with Estes, Strider was invited to the “trainer center” that Estes ran in St. Joe at a rundown dingy snake shop. In the back was a ring that was shoddy that looked like a kid had made it.

After only a month of training (a time frame Strider admits was to short) he had his first match against “Bloodlust” Brian Estes on November 17th 1997 in Troy Kansas. While the training from Estes was not up to the proper standards, two men would come to help out, Orin Jones and Brimstone each took some time to show a young Strider how to take proper bumps, running the ropes and they did not make it easy on him as they made it a point “ to beat the crap out of me” just enough to let him know that the sport was to be respected.

He could not believe it that on his second match he was in the main event. The joy would be replaced with pain during the match he would suffer a torn ACL. While out of action and in pain, Strider had thoughts of is wrestling for him? Even today that same injury bothers him from time to time.

After recovering from his injury he left the Estes group and in a pivotal moment in 1998 he would meet Steve Ward a man who ran Dog Pound Production and CSW. Mr Ward played a huge role in Striders early development and his promotion was a whole different world from Estes ran low rent show. Wards promotion was run with pyro and looked professional. It also featured well trained athletes with the talents of Butch Reed, Orin Jones, Sonny Myers, Lord Little Brook providing a lot of the training. while bringing in stars such as Greg Valentine, Road Warrior Hawk, Kamala, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan, even Mick Foley and Billy Gunn. They would run shows at the St. Joe Civic arena, often times in front of crowds that numbered in the thousands.

His main opponents, Big Daddy Fullz and Psychotic Sandman, were big men that could work and looked great. Fullz was so talented he even had looks from the WWE.

In 1999 Strider would capture his first title from Fullz and the two took the feud around the Midwest including Chillicothe and Maryville Missouri. Good times for a man who was just realizing his dream of being a wrestler was coming true.

Yet the story of Michael Strider was just beginning.

Wrestling was booming and the road was busy on one road trip Strider and company were in Omaha, Nebraska, Thursday night, Kearney, Nebraska on Friday, Scotts Bluff Nebraska Saturday and then rushed to Guyman Oklahoma for a Sunday matinee. All this before heading back to work on Monday morning at his real job tired and beaten.

Always willing to learn Strider took the opportunity to train at Dory Funk JR week long camps on a few different occasions. Dory Funk Jr’s camps were instrumental in teaching psychology, ring generalship and professionalism. A memorable lesson was taught to a young Strider at one of the camps when, then WCW’S Johnny Ace (now known as John Laurinaitis) was representing the company and dropped in to scout out the students of Funk JR. At the time Strider was using a cool finisher that wasn’t common place at the time and prior to Strider’s exhibition match in front of Johnny Ace, Funk JR. pulled him aside to let him know that at the end of the match that he should not hit his finisher or else Ace will take it to WCW and have one of their guys use it.

Though Strider had listened and respected the advice of Funk JR., the excitement of showcasing his skills in front of a WCW scout got the best of him, as the final moments of the match came to a close; Strider lifted his opponent up for his finisher and hit it perfect.

It would not be long before Strider was watching WCW and lo and behold there was a WCW star using his finisher to win a match. Moral of the story “That’s what you get when you don’t listen to Dory Funk JR”

During the same time, Strider was thrilled to be a part of Gateway Championship Wrestling. GCW had TV on public access and ran by promoter Big Bad Ben. Strider stated that Ben was one of his favorite promoters he found Ben to be fair and honest. “I know a lot of people say bad things about Ben but I loved working for him. He treated me very well and taught me a ton!” As a wrestler Strider and Ben had some fun matches. Strider went on to say that the talent of GCW was amazing as Dingo, MsChif, Daizee Haze, Delirious, and Matt ( Evan Bourne) Sydal were all there , while Strider himself enjoyed memorable matches with” The Human Wrecking ball” Pete Madden.

He fondly remembers the St Louis as great to work and considers those crowds some of his favorite to wrestle in front of.

When asked what is the best advice to a young wrestler Strider says the secret is when they start out get out there and work as much as possible. Try to work with as many vets as you can. Be respectful and just keep quiet and listen to what they say.

Strider had always been a student of the game, when the opportunity presented itself to work on the booking team for CSW he was thrilled to make the most of the opportunity. Strider told stories about sitting in Old Chicago’s bar and grill and working with the booking team that included Derek Stone and, then CSW owner, Joe McDonald.

As a booker and wrestler at CSW Strider was fortunate to have some of the top young talents in the Midwest to provide the fans with quality matches. A young Mark Sterling, #1 Brett Young, Iceman , Darrien Sanders, Tyler Cook , Domino Rivera were all men that Strider took pride in molding their ring skills as well as their characters. One of today’s best Jeremy Wyatt had been wrestling for some time, yet he felt as if the CSW family was able to assist him into getting to the next level and provided him a proper stage in which to showcase his talents.

When asked who his best friends in the business were, Strider spent about 10 minutes naming wrestlers and promoters both past and present. In the end he didn’t want to leave anyone out so he simply stated “All the people that mean something to me don’t need me to mention their names. They already know who they are.”

However, He did jokingly mentioned that the reason his back was so bad was because he had to carry Mason Hunter through all those matches around the Midwest.

When asked what matches he was most happy with at CSW, he mentioned the feud with Payday Patterson that would be called the Pain Game. A best of seven match series that was very hard hitting but rewarding due to the fans reaction . In the first match was the regular one on one, then a submission match, a Russian Chain Match , a pick your partner match, then on one night the fans were treated to the final 3 matches throughout the show. The first match started off with a one fall to a finish match, a bunkhouse match and with each man tied at 3-3, the finale was a Stairway to hell barbwire on a ladder match that Strider was able to win and with the stipulation in place that the loser would have to retire. Payday Patterson was finished but not before being a part of local legend. The Pain Game series is still talked about to this day by those fans lucky enough to have watched it.

Strider’s trademark bleach blond hair would come from the advice of ECW Original Raven who told him he need something to stand out from the pack and that the short brown hair was not working for him. Even though their relationship was shaky at best. Strider respected Raven and is very thankful to get such good advice from a true professional.

A huge match between TNA/ROH Superstar Samoa Joe during the CSW Joe’s going to kill you and working with Abyss would earn Strider some respect from the two as he felt they went to bat for him at both TNA and ROH. Though it never would come to pass, Strider explained that he knew it was easier to win the lottery that becomes a member on the top promotions roster.

As the door at CSW shut down expectantly another one open with the chance to work with Harley Race’s World League Wrestling. Strider had worked with some of Harley’s top talents at CSW including Steve Fender and Wade Chism. During his time with Harley and his wife BJ, Strider stated that the “chance to work with Harley’s WLW was everything and more than he expected. I can’t say enough about how well Harley and BJ treated me and what an honor it was to work for him.” During his time he got pushed really well and got to work with guys like E-Gene ( Nick Dinsmore), wrestle in front of Bret Hart and Rodey Piper. Harley was even able to get him some looks from the WWE.

As life often does, you find yourself at crossroads. Strider’s personal life was improving so much that wrestling was no longer the number one on the must do list. With wrestling on the back burner and no promotion running in his hometown of Kansas City, he would lose the NWA Central States title to Mark Sterling in House Springs, Missouri at LWA.

Time would pass for Strider before one day he e-mailed an upstart promoter Chris Gough who had then just recently did a documentary on Wrestling in Kansas City with much fan fare. Gough a man who worked for Metro Sports relayed that he would like to start running in Kansas City, and to Strider’s surprise Gough was aware of just who he was. With the excitement of Gough’s words of the new promotion and his history of working with WWE, Strider felt the time was right for a return to try to bring back wrestling to Kansas City.

Chris Gough wisely had three men to lead the company from the start, the former WWE Superstar Trevor Murdock, the local legend Michael Strider and a former Harley Race teacher Derek Stone. The three would be the center piece as Metro Pro Wrestling went to action On Metro Sports TV with many of the top young stars around the Midwest including Jeremy Wyatt, Tyler Cook, Brett Young, Bull Schmitt, Heroes for Hire and the top women in the Midwest.

Slowly but surely wrestling was back as Strider was thrilled to be on the cover of the KC Star, he was ask to do press for a PBS feature, and many other news markets. He stated that his time wrestling in Metro Pro has been some of the most rewarding in his career. “Chris Gough is nothing but class.” Strider stated. “I owe him a ton and really wish I could have been in my prime when he started this promotion.”

Strider a man known for his chops and hard hitting action stated that yes he had done hardcore but only when it made sense to do it. His match with Jeremy Wyatt at CSW in a no-ropes barbwire match would win him the first ever match of the year from Missouri Wrestling Revival. His feud with Dingo would cumulate in a bloody dog collar match.

Strider stated that to be successful you HAVE to invoke emotion from the fans. “Pro wrestling is about a lot of things. But getting the fans to be emotionally invested in you is the most important thing.” He advised young wrestlers to not get in a big hurry in their matches and don’t ever work for free. During his career his two favorite opponents were Jeremy Wyatt and Dingo. Strider went on to say that he and Dingo have never been in a match where they didn’t tear down the house. To this date, he is surprised that both Dingo and Wyatt have not been able to break into the national scene. “Those guys are pure talent. Them, along with Mark Sterling deserve more national notice than they get.”

In less than a month on June 2nd, Strider will meet Adam Pearce for his final match. Many felt that Strider had defeated Pearce to become the NWA World Champion last fall before Matt Murphy taunted Strider to restart the match due to Pearce having his “feet on the ropes”. When the match started over Pearce would steal a victory, thus cheating Strider out of the NWA World Title. That match proved to be one of the most emotional and entertaining matches in Metro Pro’s history.

Since then Pearce has lost the NWA World title to Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana yet Strider is training for the match of his life.

Though there is no World title at stake, this final match with Adam Pearce is for the fans that have chanted Strider Nation, for his family that has supported him and for the friends who have stood by and supported him through bad and good.

He hopes to see all of the fans from years past from St. Louis to Omaha to St. Joe all the way to Lawrence Kansas to come to Metro Pro Wrestling on June 2nd to celebrate the career of Michael Strider as he gives back to you with a phenomenal match against the four time NWA Worlds Champion Adam Pearce.

“I always felt like my career was about more than just me. It’s about the joy and love of Pro Wrestling. People always ask me how I can be so believable in the ring. I tell them it’s because I believe it myself. I grew up wrestling with my brothers in our backyard, pretending we were big stars. In a lot of ways, I’m still that kid. In a lot of way I’m just like that fan sitting in the front row of shows. We’re all there because we love Pro Wrestling”

Come see Strider and Pearce but leave knowing that wrestling is alive and well as the whole roster of Metro Pro Wrestling will deliver a night of action comparable to any promotion in the world today

MWR Exclusive: Young wrestlers learn from the best at Magnum Pro Wrestling – Adam Pearce.

Though wrestling has changed throughout the years of Frank Gotch to Lou Thesz to Harley Race all the way to John Cena, but one constant has to be is proper training from the best in the sport. Earlier this year I was honored to be a special guest of Magnum Pro Wrestling as the then 4-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight champion Adam Pearce took the time to teach the next generation of wrestling hopefulls.

Pearce the night before had just defended the NWA Title in Des Moines, Iowa at 3XWrestling in a classic that looked as if “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt had become the new champion. On this day we were in Council Bluffs, Iowa Pearce was set to defend hisn title against “Babyface” Tony Cortez but first he was set to work with nine young wrestlers whom wisely took the time to learn from one of the premier wrestling minds in the game today in a seminar.

Pearce with over 15 years of experience in the ring has also been head booker of Ring of Honor while adding 4 NWA World titles to his resume. Each and every time I have seen Pearce in and out the ring, he has carried himself as a Champion. A man who can draw what fans call “HEAT” with the best I have ever seen. Considering that in today’s wrestling it is even harder to draw the fans in with that much emotion due to wrestling perceived to be sports entertainment that’s a HUGE compliment.

When I entered the building Pearce had already began the seminar with a few faces that the MWR fans may know such as the Beautiful Bodies Brian Gott and Derek Cornell who has captured gold in the coverage area. Let me say this, I don’t care how many matches you have had in the ring, for the small fee that Pearce and Magnum was offering this seminar, if you weren’t working a show that night then shame on you.

I say missed opportunities for you if there ever was one.

This look at the seminar is from a non- wrestler and wrestling columnist that could not teach you how to take a bump to save his life but  after being invited to cover over 200 plus shows in the Midwest over the last five years I have to say the first word in wrestling is ”safety” .

With the skill level of the nine men being so different from a beginner to two men who have been active in promotions around the Midwest Pearce would show that he is capable of working with several different levels of talent.

Pearce throughout the camp showed patience with the wrestlers as they made mistakes, when it was time to do a move Pearce asked each one of them if they felt comfortable doing what was asked. Pearce watched them do a lockup, have a mini match, and when needed   stopped the action to give his advice.

While I have been watching wrestling for 30 plus years it is amazing what the keen eye that Pearce had that I missed when watching the students in action. Soft spoken and caring Pearce not only watched but got in the ring to give hands on advice.

As the seminar came to a close, Pearce asked the students if they had any questions. Several were asked and answered by the Champion when one student Pete Sakaris, who has been a friend of MWR since its inception and has also been a ring announcer for Magnum Pro Wrestling asked Pearce about doing proper promos.

After a hard day of working on the basics and some very important information on how to keep the fans involved during the matches, the fun was about to begin. Pearce is the type of wrestler that could talk the fans to the matches. It is amazing how good his promo skills truly are. With that Pearce stated that for them to succeed that they would need to not only wrestle but have charisma. The remaining moments he challenged the wrestlers to shoot promos on each other.

If this would have been American Idol, Pete Sakaris would have been this years winner, with Magnum Pro Wrestling’s and Adam Pearce’s approval I am going to share 3 videos of Pete. The first two is Pete challenging Pearce himself and the third was one that I will never forget, Pearce challenging Pete to shoot on the whole room including the champ himself Pearce , Jaysin Strife and even MWR.

Photobucket

After the shoot promos of Pete, Pearce was all smiles.

At the end of the day I spoke to each of the trainiees who took part in the Adam Pearce seminar and each and every one of them stated the experience was well worth the time and money.

My advice to any wrestler in the Midwest when one of the best wrestlers in the area is giving a seminar, don’t be shy, don’t miss the chance to improve your skills.

Your fans will thank you for it.
