MWR Trading Card #12 Brandon Espinosa

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 13, 2010

Brandon Espinosa (Photo Credit Mike Van Hoogstraat)

If you have been to a local show in the Midwest the chances are good that you have had the pleasure of seeing Brandon Espinosa in action. One of the hardest working men in the sport today, Espinosa is also one of the most booked wrestlers in the sport.

Whether it is in singles action or as a tag team with former partners Mike Sydal and Brandon Aarons in B.A.B.EWatch Espinosa is capable of taking home the win and stealing the show.

That is why during last year’s MWR revival show Espinosa and Aarons was chosen to team against the 2008 MWR Tag team of the Year the Northstar Express’s Darin Corbin and Ryan Cruz. Little did we know that the loss for B.A.B.EWatch in that match would be the catalyst that would cause the team to be no more.

Since then Espinosa has been on a mission to prove that he is the hottest star in wrestling today. Big wins at MMWA-SICW saw this former HVW Livewire Champion capture both the MMWA-SICW Light Heavyweight title as well as the MMWA-SICW Battle Royal Championship.

We are thrilled to have the talented Brandon Espinosa be a part of the MWR Trading card series.

#1 The Northstar Express Darin Corbin and Ryan Cruz- 2008 MWR Tag team of the Year.
#2 Mark Sterling– 2009 MWR Wrestler of the Year.

Huge WLW Show this Saturday – Trevor Murdoch vs Trent Stone in a leather strap match , Amy Hennig vs Santana G

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 11, 2010

By Brian Kelley

In less than a week the former WLW Champion Trent Stone will get his chance to regain the championship from Trevor Murdoch. Ever since last April, Trent Stone has been waiting to get his chance to redeem himself after suffering the heartbreaking loss in front of 400 people in Richmond Missouri.

Frustration has surly been setting in as Stone has yet to receive a one on one rematch with the former WWE Tag team Champion Murdoch, as he has been involved in three way matches for the WLW Title with fellow up and comer Brian Breaker. Now months later he will finally get to redeem himself in the very same type match that he lost the belt in, a leather strap match.

Trent Stone drew fans towards him while wearing the WLW Belt. No matter what he says he looks to have the attention focused on him once again as he tries to recapture the WLW title. (Photo Credit Bill Smith )

You will not want to miss this rematch in Park Hills Missouri on Saturday, when these two warriors will be attached to a leather rope with a buckle on each end. How to win is to touch all four corners in order without coming to your knees.

The ropes show no favoritism as Stone repays Murdoch. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

The dangerous part of the match comes when your opponent can use the ropes as a weapon to wear you down.

Don’t miss it this Saturday when these two powerhouses will collide with one goal in mind, to walk out the building as the World League Wrestling Champion.

Let’s take a look at the stats between these two.

MWR believes that Trent Stone will become a two time WLW Champion after Saturday night is through.. (Photo Credit Bill Smith )

Prediction: The popular choice would be too put your money on the bona fide superstar Trevor Murdoch. Murdoch is a champion that rises to the occasion in big matches just as he did last April. I am going to go out on a limb and choose Stone, though he doesn’t have the worldwide name, he is by no means a rookie who stepped in the ring recently, and is more focused that he has ever been. Coming into this match, he will be determined and ready to prove to the world that he is the future of WLW and is on his way to much bigger heights. Look for the hunger of Trent Stone to allow him to become a two time WLW Champion.

In a battle that you will not want to miss as the rematch between the WLW Women’s champion Amy Hennig taking on the “Midwest sweetheart” Santana G. While Trevor Murdoch became a 4-time WLW Champion in Richmond, Santana G debuted in Harley Race’s WLW and won the hearts of wrestling fans instantly.

Amy Hennig looked strong early on in their first match in Richmond Mo (Photo Credit Bill Smith )

In what many called an upset, Santana G was instrumental in helping her tag team partners Ryan Drago and Eathon Wright defeat Hennig and the WLW Tag Team Champions Mark Sterling and “Superstar” Steve Fender in a three way match.

The very next night Santana G would keep up the momentum in Concordia Missouri by earning a victory via DQ when look as though she had Amy Hennig in deep trouble. Are we on the verge of seeing Santana G hoisting up the WLW Women’s Championship?

Midwest wrestling fans, lets take a step back and see how the two match up and what to look for in this battle between the future of women’s wrestling.

We will start with Amy Hennig. No matter what she does in this sport, whenever she is mentioned it will be said that she is the granddaughter of Larry “The Ax” Hennig and daughter of Curt “Mr Perfect” Hennig  as she should be, those two are respected by wrestlers and fans alike as all-time greats in this sport. If that’s not enough her brother Joe “Michael McGillicutty” has been making a name for himself on WWE’S NXT program on Sci-fi every Tuesday night. To many this would be undo pressure but thanks to strong support and unconditional love of the Hennig family this is a positive for Amy who has the talent, work ethic and determination to succeed and do not be surprised when the day comes that it is mention that Joe is the sister of the great Amy Hennig.

Amy wisely traveled from Minnesota to train with Harley Race at the Harley Race Wrestling Academy (WLW) in Eldon Missouri. World League Wrestling has thrilled fans for ten years while assisting some of the youngest stars in the sport today such as Trevor Murdoch, Ted Dibiase, Pro Wrestling Noah Superstar Keith Walker and her brother Joe Hennig “Michael McGillicutty”.

On the other side of the ring is young beautiful Santana G, who in just a little over a year has been the talk of the wrestling world. Santana G started out under the watchful eye of St Louis wrestling great Dingo. Dingo, who was by far not the tallest or heaviest wrestler who had to work that much harder to be among the top in a sport dominated by big men, not only was he among the best he was considered by many to be the best in the Midwest in the past 20 years.

There is no doubt that Dingo, brought that determination and work ethic into Santana G’s training. In less than a year she has taken on a who’s who of talent including Mia Martinez, Jessika Haze, Isis the Amazon, TNA Knockout Rosie Lotta Love, Becky Bayless and NWA Women’s World Champion MsChif. A decision to move to Florida has paid off after she won the Coastal Championship Wrestling Women’s title from Jessika Haze.

Santana G with Orlando Jordon and Cameron (Photo from TNA )

Santana G  caught the eyes of Total Nonstop Wrestling who hired her to valet for Orlando Jordon on TNA Wrestling on Spike TV. Always looking to improve Santana G has been learning from former AWA World Champion Larry Zbyszko and Scott Hall.

In exciting developments she was brought in by WLW to take on Amy. We caught up with Santana G prior to her debut this past spring to talk to her about working with WLW and she spoke with excitement of the opportunity “ I am very thrilled to work with one of the greats in this profession, Harley Race , I have had butterflies all week because I know that Amy (Hennig) is the champ and is highly regarded as one of the top women to look out for.” There is no doubt that Santana G has the momentum going her way.

Or does she?

Everyone here at MWR has felt that Amy has had Superstar written all over her since she debuted at WLW but even in a loss during the three way match that she lost to Santana G with partner Sterling and Fender I was blown away with her improvement since I last seen her. With experience , she is now wrestling at a level that I feel she can go with any wrestler in the world today.

I stated earlier that in their match in Concordia Santana G “looked” to have the Hennig in deep trouble. My advice to my friend Santana G, don’t let Amy let you get too much confidence and lose the opportunity to take home the WLW Championship. Amy reminded me that night in Concordia of Ric Flair in his prime when he would match up against many of challengers in match ups that it seemed as if they had his number only to have them battle once again only to have Flair walk out with the Championship while they wander how they could have been so close last time but could never take the championship from the “Man”.

Amy Hennig is proud of her WLW Title and has no plans of relinquishing it anytime soon.(Photo Credit Bill Smith )

MWR received word from an insider that stated “Do not be surprised in the following months that you do not see talent scouts from WWE and TNA in the stands watching these two talented women go at it” he went on to add can you imagine Amy Hennig feuding with Michelle Leigh McCool and Layla otherwise known as Lay-Cool or Santana G going at it with The Beautiful People’s Velvet Sky, Lacy Von Erich and Madison Rayne.

That could very well happen but for the time being the prestigious WLW Title will be on the line when WLW comes to Park Hills Missouri.

Prediction: Amy Hennig will retain the championship. Do not be surprised that this feud will not end in the Midwest and make their way to WWE or TNA and bring back memories of Curt Hennig vs. Bret Hart or Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat. Do not miss out on the opportunity to say that you were there when it first happened.

You can purchase the MWR Trading card of Santana G and WLW Tag Champ Mark Sterling in Park Hills with photography from Mike Van Hoogstraat. We were hoping to have debut the “Superstar “ Steve Fender card this weekend but due to unforeseeable circumstances we all will have to wait just a little longer for this WLW greats card.

The Golden Circle: 30 By Greg Anthony

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 11, 2010

Today’s wrestlers aren’t afraid of being paralyzed, the long term effects of steroids or a half a dozen other reasonable things to be afraid of. The most terrifying thing for a pro wrestler in this era is the number 30. Or more specifically the age 30. The general consensus is that once you’ve hit the magic number, you’ve missed the boat. You may get good opportunities to work good shows but a dream of being a WWE contracted wrestler is over. Is this fact or merely a bitter fiction that has made its bed in our world.

I did some heavy research for this article. I asked the question of several veterans who use to work the territories. Were they afraid of 30 or some other magical number? it wasn’t that they were afraid of 30 but aware of it. If someone hadn’t become a star or had gotten a good as they were going to by the time they hit 30 they usually started making alternative plans for the future. The big difference between then and now is that it was their decision. Plus with several profitable companies and bookers, if one promoter didn’t see anything in you, whose to say the next one wouldn’t.

When Vince started offering contracts to guys like to build a national WWF. He didn’t hire guys 18-20 years old. He hired guys that were seasoned, guys that he knew he could be in relativly any situation and they could perform because this wouldn’t be their first rodeo. And it made for a great product, were from top to bottom you had genuine workers. Guys that were working together to make money. Now everyone wasn’t a Randy Savage or Ricky Steamboat but everyone played their role perfectly.

Now it isn’t to say that WWE has never and will never hire someone over the age of 30. Because they have, most notably guys like The Boogyman and Rico, who were in their late 30s even 40s when hired. The ratio to twenty-somethings vs thirty-plus is a one sided margin for sure. So what is “being in your prime” in pro wrestling now?

Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker

You look at Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker, two guys in their 40s who went and had probably the greatest match in Wrestlemania History. Neither man could have had that match when they were 25. Because they hadn’t had the 1000s of matches prior to learn from.

I personally know for a fact that if WWE would have hired me when I was 20 years old, I would have screwed it up in some way. Because I was stupid like all 20 year olds. Its like any sport, you draft someone directly out of high school and you have to deal with a maturing process. You draft a college senior and 4 year starter then, for the most part, you take that maturing process out of the equation. I personally would rather hire someone who is a great worker at 33, that could work for 10 more years than someone who is gonna be just “ok” for 20. But I promise I don’t know everything.

Dubi meets the PWE Fans June 2010

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 9, 2010

By Dubray Tallman

Thank you for taking the time to join me with a new Dubi meets the fans, where today we are at Pro Wrestling Epic for the very first edition of Dubi meets the Fans at PWE.

This night promised to be special because one of MWR’S rising stars the PWE US Champion “Irresistible Brandon Aarrons was set to face the current Ring of Honor World Champion Tyler Black. Aarons has won the hearts of fans in St Louis but it would be interesting to see how this match up would go. In the near future Brian will have a photo recap of this historic match up as well as the rest of night of wrestling action from Mt Pulaski Illinois.

This was also the night were we debuted the Tyler Black MWR Trading Card, and we presented Tyler Black with a MWR Top Draw courtesy of MWR Artist Dartallian Allen.

To start the night Brian introduced me to the Nose Bleed Seats MOAV5706 and Chris Lee who had brought his son to the show and I caught up with the famous Crime Fighter. To find out more info on our friends at the NBS checked out their site here.

Danny, Richard, Greg, Mike , Jerry and Scott with Ring of Honor World Champion Tyler Black (Photo Credit Brian Kelley )

Meanwhile I was on the hunt to find some people for this edition of Dubi meets the fans. I was thrilled to meet an energetic group of fans from Lincoln Illinois with one stating that they try to go to all the local shows. We talked about wrestling and they said nationally they like John Cena but on this night they were excited to meet Tyler Black. After Tyler got done visiting with some fans he was kind enough to join us for a picture. Danny, Richard, Greg, Mike , Jerry and Scott all had the chance to get their picture taken with the hottest wrestler today Tyler Black.

The next group of fans that I met was uncertain who they wanted to chose for the night but stated that they would let me know at Intermission. Krotch had open the night in exciting fashion with a win against MR. Late Nite’s protégé Graves. Karma would come back to bite Graves as the week prior he, “The Perfect Weapon” Morbid and MR Late Nite turned on Cabal leaving him brutally laying in the ring after they lost to Mephisto and Justin Wade. This night Mr. Late Nite would show his true colors when he turned on Graves before the match ended. The ace in the whole for this weasel of a manager was he had just paid for the services of one of the Midwest most powerful man in the Midwest “The Future” Donovan Ruddick.

With the exciting win Krotch once again was chosen for the Dubi meets the fans picture, making him one of the most requested wrestlers in the Midwest for this feature, wheather it is at 3XW, MECW or PWE the fans can not get enough Krotch…. Wait Did I just say that? Melissa, Charles Mariah, Kristin and Tommy all posed with Krotch.

Ruddick would make an impact later in the night when he turned on his friend The Mississippi Madman. The Madman had a cast on his hand due to an injury and was not expecting the assault by Ruddick. The Madman promised to get revenge when he heals up.

Ruddick and his manager Mr. Late Nite would not be done when Ruddick challenged Jimmy Karryt for the HWC Championship. Brian is a big fan of this rising star and had asked if he would do the honors of wearing a MWR Shirt to the ring prior to his match. In a hysterical moment of the night Brian was attempting to take a picture of Karryt coming to the ring and was backing up where he nearly went head over heels on a bunch of chairs that got the laugh of the night from the crowd. That’s my boyfriend. Karryt threw the MWR Shirt to young Paula Merrell and though he lost the title and was bruised and battered he still took the time to pose with his fan.

Unfortunately Ruddick and Mr. Late Nite would not be denied as they would go home with the HWC Title in my personal opinion of the match of the night. I look forward to a rematch between these two in the near future no pun intended.

I had to decide on whom my pick for the Dubi meets the Fans photo and who would be better than the PWE US Champion Brandon Aarons prior to the biggest match in his career.

I won’t lie the trip was long but we had a great time while having a lot of fun. The wrestling was very good and PWE announced that evening that they would be returning to Lincoln Illinois Balloon Festival on August 28th. We went last year and had a great time watching wrestling outside while the Balloon liftoff was going on. If you missed it check out Brian’s Photo Recap of that show here and mark your calendar for this date.

Springfield Illinois we will be coming to your town when MWR comes to New Midwest Wrestling for the very first time on July 10th. Look for Dubi meets the NMW fans!!
I look forward to seeing you there.

Till next time Love Dubz

Jeremy Wyatt and Tyler Cook Presented 2009 MWR Match of the Year Plaques.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on July 8, 2010

Tyler Black, Brian Kelley and the 3XW Champion Jeremy Wyatt

Last month on June 4th in Des Moines Iowa, we were on hand to present the 3XW Champion Jeremy Wyatt and Tyler Cook the 2009 MWR Match of the Year plaque for their match last July 17th for the 3XW Pure Championship title . Tyler Cook would have his hand raised on that evening in a match that is still talked about today.

Since that time Jeremy Wyatt made that loss the pivotal point of his career when he bounced back to defeat “Delicious” Devin Carter for the 3XW Heavyweight title. Wyatt recently broke the record for the longest 3XW Champion and has had thrilling matches with Al Snow. Maddog McDowell, Tyler Black and an incredible series with fan Favorite Rory Fox.

Tyler Cook on the other hand has floundered and looking to regroup after losing the very next month against the unstoppable Kraig Kessaman who as of press time has not been pinned at 3XW since August of 2008…Yes I said August of 2008! We are huge fans of Tyler Cook here at MWR and feel that it wont be long till he is back in the title hunt again soon.

Midnight Guthrie and Brian Kelley talks about the MWR Award during intermission.

While we were there we got to see a rematch of Wyatt vs. Cook only this time Wyatt was the 3XW Champion. Wyatt would prove once again that he is among the top in the sport today by submitting him to a crossface.

A old foe in Rory Fox would come Rory Fox came out and officially announced he would be using his Gauntlet for the Gold title shot against Wyatt at the 3XW 5 Year Anniversary Event this Friday Wyatt said “fine, but I choose the stipulation. It’s going to be a ladder match!!!

Can Fox finally get the win for this coveted title or will Wyatt continue to be the one man that has his number?

Before we take the time to watch the 3XWrestling commercial I would like to thank 3XW, Jeremy Wyatt and Tyler Cook for their time last month during that important evening as we honored Wyatt and Cook with the 2009 MWR Match of the Year.
