MWR presents MMWA-SICW with the 2009 MWR Promotion of the Year plaque.

On April 3r at a packed house at the South Broadway Athletic Club myself , Head write Kari Williams and fan relations Dubray Tallman was in the middle of the ring with Promoter Tony Costa and Tim Miller with the 2009 MWR Promotion of the Year.

The Promotion of the Year is always the most debated among the MWR Awards committee due to the fact there are so many good promotions running today.

In 2009 MMWA-SICW continued to be one of the top drawing shows in the Midwest. They ran over 30 shows while celebrating their 50 Years at Chase that received a full spread in the St Louis Dispatch did a complete and separate spread on 50 years at the Chase with the old stars such Harley Race, Johnny Valentine, Jack Brisco and new stars in Gary Jackson, the Lumberjacks, Dave Vaughn and more.

The MMWA-SICW was also active in work with the community. Announcer and Executive Director Tim Miller had been instrumental with giving back. MMWA-SICW lent a helping hand in the benefit the family of fallen police officer Julius Moore who was killed due to the result of injuries sustained during an on-duty vehicle accident on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. He was 23 years old. The event raised more than $2200 through food sales alone to benefit Police Officer Julius Moore’s family including his three young children, two sons and a daughter all under the age of 5. The event was covered by the press and over 2,000 people showed up to support the cause.

In 2009 MMWA-SICW have given the fans a chance to meet the stars of wrestling by having Harley race, Dave Hebner, Bob Hardcore Holly, Larry Matysik ,Mickey Garagioloa and most recently the wild popular Baron Von Raschke.

These were just a few of the reason why they were chosen as the MWR Promotion of the year.

Once again we would like to thank MMWA-SICW for their hospitality and I highly recommend that you check out them in 2010.

On a personal note I was very excited to be invited up the commentating booth by Herb Simmons during the title match between Champion Dave Vaughn and Phil E Blunt. I was nervous up till I left the booth so I can’t be honest on how well i did but it was truly a great time .

Look for MWR at a local show near you in 2010.

Ron Powers and Danny Boy return to MMWA-SICW in East Carondelet this Saturday.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 10, 2010

Two of St Louis favorite past wrestlers return to the ring this Saturday when St Louis Powerhouse Ron Powers and Danny Boy return to the ring.  You will not want to miss all the hard hitting action when all your favorite MMWA-SICW stars return to action. Ring action begins at 8:00 P.M. at 823 State street East Carondelet.

Update from promoter Herb Simmons

Don’t miss the return of Ron Powers and Danny Boy this Saturday in East Carondelet. There is a lot taking place in the MMWA-SICW. It appears Travis “the crook” Cook, manager of the “connection” is trying his best to avoid having his men get in the ring with Powers.

MMWA-SICW Jan. 9 recap

Moondog Rover and Bobby D took each other on in the opening contest. D tried to take the early advantage, but Rover was quick to dominate. However, neither man gained a clear advantage throughout the duration of the bout. Rover targeted D’s knee, which worked to his advantage as D could not regain momentum; Rover soundly defeated D.

Travis Cooks man The Big Texan chokes Ruddick.(Photo Credit Michael R Van Hoogstraat)

The Big Texan came to ringside with The Connection’s Ring Leader Travis Cook to battle “Future” Donovan Ruddick. Because Texan holds the MMWA-SICW tag team titles with Waco, and the Battle Royal Championship, Commissioner Keith Smith forced Texan to relinquish the battle royal championship.

The battle of behemoths then got underway, with neither Ruddick nor Texan able to knock the other off his feet. Both bounced off the ropes and Ruddick leapfrogged over Texan, but on the way back, Texan caught the 6’9” Monster with a clothesline for the advantage. Despite Texan’s early lead, he could do nothing to stop Ruddick’s raw strength and brutality.

Just as it seemed that Ruddick was geared for the win, Texan’s partner in crime, Waco, rushed to ringside, resulting in a disqualification victory for Ruddick.

Because Texan surrendered his Battle Royal Championship, “Thee” Brandon Espinosa, Sean Vincent, Moondog Rover, Jaysin Static, Blade, A.J. Williams and Waco battled for the belt. Waco was the first eliminated, with Espinosa, Static and Rover following suit. Williams, Blade and Vincent were the final three men. Rover pulled Williams out of the ring, eliminating the MMWA-SICW Junior Heavyweight Champion.

The passing of the torch at MMWA-SICW? (Photo Credit Michael R Van Hoogstraat)

Dave Vaughn and “Night Train” Gary Jackson duked it out with MMWA-SICW Heavyweight Champion Phil E. Blunt with the title on the line. It seemed as though Blunt wanted to form an alliance of sorts with former Connection member Vaughn, but Vaughn would not fall for Blunt’s antics. Any time it appeared that the two would work together, Vaughn turned on him. All three men fought for the advantage, but none of them held the upper hand for long. The odds against him, Blunt fought as hard as he could to come out on top—going so far as to throw baby powder into Vaughn’s eyes. Vaughn reeled from the illegal attack, but did not lose sight of the goal, as he pinned Jackson to win the Heavyweight Championship.

Travis Cook complained, on behalf of Blunt, that Blunt should not have lost the title, prompting the commissioner to tell Blunt, “Go serve your time and get back in line.”

After intermission, Waco kicked off his match against Junior Heavyweight Champion A.J. Williams by attacking Williams from behind, gaining the early advantage. Williams ended up on the outside, being attacked by Waco’s partner, the Big Texan. Having dealt with enough interference, the referee eventually made Texan leave ringside, much to the crowd’s delight and Williams’ advantage.

With a level playing field, Williams gained steam and went full force, attacking Waco with everything he had. Williams soundly defeated Waco.

Sweet dropkick by Espinosa on Static.(Photo Credit Michael R Van Hoogstraat)

A handful of tights gets Espinosa the victory. (Photo Credit Michael R Van Hoogstraat)

“Electrifying” Jaysin Static went up against “Thee” Brandon Espinosa. Neither had a clear advantage, but Static tried to jumpstart his advantage when he launched onto Espinosa, who had found his way outside the ring. The two tangled on the outside and slowly made their way back to the ring. By the time they were inside, Espinosa had gained the upper hand and connected with a picture perfect drop kick. However, Static would not go down easily, and he fought—determined—to prove himself against the former MMWA-SICW junior heavyweight champion. Regardless of Static’s heart and willpower, Espinosa remained dominate, rolling up Static for the win—while he held the tights for added leverage.

Vincent goes to the top.(Photo Credit Michael R Van Hoogstraat)

MMWA-SICW’s resident Canadian Sean Vincent took on Blade. Vincent tried to evoke a battle of wits, as each time Blade looked to gain the advantage, Vincent scooted out of the ring. Blade quickly grew tired of Vincent’s mind games and went after the Canadian, taking control of the bout. But Vincent matched Blade hold for hold, creating a stalemate of sorts—a competitive stalemate. After a little more give and take, Blade finally took over, upsetting Cook, who had accompanied Vincent to ringside. Cook caused a distraction, chaos ensued and Vincent ended up knocking Blade out with a set of brass knuckles to steal the match.

The newly crowned MMWA-SICW Heavyweight Champion Vaughn emerged to defend his prized possession, but his opponent—Blade—was in no shape to compete. Vaughn offered to give Blade an opportunity at another time due to the circumstances, but Blade refused.

MMWA-SICW June 13 Recap

Fans noticed white tape around nearly every wrestler’s arm at South Broadway Athletic Club on June 13 as they made their way to the ring. The name “Faith” appeared on that tape. Whether loved or hated by the crowd, virtually the entire locker room paid homage to MMWA-SICW Ring Announcer Tim Miller’s two-year-old niece who died in a car fire on June 1. The night was dedicated to Faith Miller.

The returning Johnny Courageous took on A.J. Williams in a number one contender’s match for the Junior Heavyweight Championship. Williams came to the ring wearing a shirt commemorating the life of Faith Miller, much to the delight of the fans and Tim.

These two fan favorites wrestled a fast-paced, highly competitive bout worthy of main event status. Courageous gained a slight lead from the bell and never quite let go of it. Williams’ willpower was evident, as he did not give in easily. In fact, he went to the top turnbuckle on more than one occasion in hopes of delivering the final blow of defeat to Courageous. Multiple near falls and closecalls emerged as the athletes began running out of time. The bout ended in a time limit draw, with a number one contender for Vaughn’s belt still undecided.

Alexis Lightfoot defended her Women’s Championship against Destiny Diamond in the only championship match of the evening. The hatred between these two has grown tremendously since Diamond’s debut in the company. Diamond controlled the early portion of the bout, but choking Alexis on the ropes fueled the champion’s desire to retain her belt. Alexis came at Diamond with a flurry of forearms and punches, bringing victory closer. In spite of Diamond’s attempts to deter Alexis, nothing worked and Alexis retained her title in just over four minutes.

Phil E. Blunt and Vaughn had their hands full against World Heavyweight Champion Gary Jackson and Jerome Cody. Both teams worked well together, using frequent tags and double teams as much as possible. In typical Connection fashion, Blunt and Vaughn resorted to illegal tactics to control the battle.

Just before the 10-minute-mark, Blunt connected with a piledriver on Jackson, but the champion kicked out. Neither team could gain a clear advantage, which lead to frustration and anger for both teams. Cody launched from the top rope with a flying crossbody onto Vaughn, and chaos erupted shortly thereafter. Both teams were disqualified for the use of a chain, which came into the scuffle.

When the match ended, Blunt tried convincing Jackson that Cody only wanted to be his partner to get closer to the Heavyweight Championship, which caused some tension between the two men.

The previous contest showcased the return of the former MMWA-SICW Junior Heavyweight Champion Kahyman as he took on Lumberjack Gabe (with Abe) in his first match in over a year. Gabe proved his power by shoving Kahyman to the mat. Looking more determined than ever, Kahyman simply smirked to the crowd and bolted toward Gabe, who quickly ran to the outside toward safety. The referee threw out Abe due to interference, and Gabe used the distraction to take control and dictate the pace of the match.

Kahyman slowly worked his way from defeat, began targeting Gabe’s leg, and followed suit with a standing drop kick that knocked Gabe to his feet. Kahyman controlled the match from this moment on, hitting a swanton bomb and covering Gabe for the pin. Kahyman would have won the match at this point, but Abe emerged from the back and broke up the pin in plain view of the referee. However, the referee did not disqualify Gabe, and the match continued. Kahyman won via roll up when Abe attempted to interfere again and nearly collided with his brother. Junior Heavyweight Champion Dave Vaughn charged the ring to attack Kahyman after the bout. He was restrained and forced to the back.

Shaft, accompanied by Travis Cook, wrestled the Big Texan. They started off with a shoving contest, of which Texan easily got the upper hand.

Cook then called for a time out to help Shaft regroup, but Texan still dominated. At one point, Texan choked Shaft, who retaliated in the same manner. Moments later, Cook interfered and proceeded to jump up and down, run around the ring and prance toward Phil E. Blunt—recently arrived at ringside—and the two high fived as Cook proclaimed, “I’m a bad man!” Having gotten the advantage, Shaft began to target Texan’s ankle. Inbetween punishing his opponent, Shaft stopped to argue with a fan, giving Texan a chance to take the advantage, but to no avail. Shaft walked away with a roll up victory as he grabbed the tights for added leverage.

“The Exciting” Jaysin Static and Blade went at it in the second match of the evening. Static started off on the right foot, but after a mid-ring collision, it looked as if he injured his knee. Blade targeted the injury and almost pinned Static, but the exciting one’s determination never faltered. In fact, Static had control of the match from the five minute mark almost to the end. The exciting one nailed Blade with an impressive superkick, but it was not enough to put the larger man down for the count. Blade pulled out the win only moments later at 6:41.

In the opening contest, Moondog Rover tried to best Lumberjack Abe, despite Lumberjack Gabe’s presence at ringside. Rover weakened Abe’s left arm early on but could not put a stop to his opponent, who quickly changed the direction of the match. In spite of Abe’s determination, the moment that Rover resorted to his dog-like tactics, Abe lost his focus and never regained it.

Gabe appeared to sense his brother’s pending defeat, causing him to take Rover’s bone and taunt him. This act allowed Abe to sneak up on Rover and get a quick roll up victory.

At Pro Wrestling Phoenix, Wyatt defended his title against Payday Patterson and with his friends Mark Sterling, Brett Young and Joey Daniels, Wyatt created mayhem when they attacked innocent ring crew members, current and former wrestlers and whoever would get in their way. Wyatt was victorious, but pinned Shorty, so according to the previously stipulated rules Shultz retained his NWA Mid America TV Title. l_9c51e131ea45fc2940acd16b5d0e4831

As the host of the fan favorite wrestling/MMA show with Matt Krueger Bland provides an outlet for wrestling fans to speak their mind on the sport that they love. When Mark Bland decided to get back in the ring and offer some excitement in the Midwest with a match against any champion in a 200 mile radius, no one stepped up. Bland looked around and wanted to take on one of the best wrestlers in the Midwest and found himself what could be his death wish in Donovan Ruddick, the High Voltage Wrestling Heavyweight Champion. A Sunday phone call to HVW promoter “TNT” Keny G lit the fuse that saw an invite to AWR’s Matt Krueger to their show on May 9th. Krueger unwisely attack Ruddick with a chair and got rewarded with a one way ticket out of the arena. The aftermath has seen Mark Bland go back into training with warnings from UFC former Champions to Ruddick that Bland will knock him out. TNT Keny G responded on May 31 by taking over the AWR Radio program while Bland attended to his family for the day. What will happen in this feud? Will Bland be able to topple the giant or will he be exposed as the fraud many thinks that he is. Whatever the end results the year of 2009 looks to be anything but “bland”.

1st Runner Up- {Tie} Kari Williams, Paul Daniels
2nd Runner Up – {Tie} Harley Race, Eric Davis

Mississippi Madman was on a roll as the PWN Champion last month he won a huge Title vs. Hair match against Marek Brave. The Madman looked unstoppable going into the his title defense against the talented Danny Daniels. Daniels would stop at NOTHING and took it to the big man. Outside the ring they fought and up the bleachers and throughout the building. The Madman look to turn the momentum, but with a little distraction from a masked man Daniels was able to put the Madman through a table and get the one two three.
