World League Wrestling Champion Leland Race is one of the best wrestlers in the Midwest. The son of 8-Time NWA World Champion Harley Race has embraced his legacy and regain the WLW Championship from rising star Elvis Aliaga in 2014. During the main event of the June event at the Race Wrestling Arena, Leland matched up against the tenacity of Dustin Bozworth in a true war. Yet, Bozworth felt he was cheated out of the WLW title when Ace Steel made his way to the ring and his interference back fired causing Race to retain. The aftermath saw a heated Bozworth and a dangerous Steel worked into a frenzy demanding a title shot. Race quickly stood up and accepted the challenge of both men.

That match is signed for July 26th at the Race Wrestling Arena and promises to be a match that you will not want to miss. !!!

Where in the World is Jon Webb ?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 24, 2014

 photo 3_zpsd314bf07.jpg

Jon Webb and Jack Gamble’s High Level Enterprise T-shirts have been a favorite at Pro Wrestling Tees and wrestling shows in the Midwest. Will Jon Webb still have that smile when he comes back from Japan?

There is not a day that goes by that we do not get an e-mail from MWR fans asking, where has young wrestling star Jon Webb gone ?  Webb, the young heartthrob has a huge fan base among the girls, but has earned the respect of young boys and men alike ever since taking the opportunity to train with 8-time NWA   Champion Harley Race.

He has appeared for many top promotions in the area including WLW, SICW, DPW, NWA CSW and MMWA, and his partnership in the exciting tag team High Level Enterprise with Jack Gamble are one of the most loved tag teams during the MWR Years.

So where is Jon Webb?

After taking part in two WLW WWE NOAH camps in Eldon, Missouri (NOW TROY MISSOURI) he chose to travel to japan to give Pro Wrestling NOAH a visit. Since he has been gone, his partner Jack Gamble has been a part of some very controversial moments in 2014. Gamble has turned on his fans at both WLW and Dynamo Pro Wrestling. The fans are dying to see how Webb reacts to his partners’ new alliances, while hoping that he can talk some sense in Gamble.

 photo 4_zps6bc9687f.jpg

Jon Webb has not been scared to test himself. From the start he went to train under the 8-time NWA Worlds Champion Harley Race’s watchful eye. Since that time he has tested himself against several of the best in the Midwest including the former MWR Wrestler of the Year Mark Sterling. At the moment he is in Japan learning from some of the best that they have to offer.

Fans I encourage you to LIKE the official Jon Webb FACEBOOK page to keep up with his progress in pro wrestling around the world.

Many believe that Bobby “The Brain” Heenan is the top manager of All-time in the sport that we love. Heenan wrestled in St. Louis during the Wrestling at the Chase, but was so good at managing that he was the only manager at during Sam Muchnicks’s NWA Years.

Be a part of History on May 17th when SICW celebrates their 55 years of Wrestling at the Chase in East Carondelet, Illinois

I share with you a great bio from Brian Westcott from the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum on the one and only

Bobby “the Brain” Heenan

Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, the self-proclaimed “World’s Greatest Manager”, was born Raymond Louis Heenan on November 1, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois.

Heenan began his wrestling career working as a manager under Dick the Bruiser and Wilbur Snyder. Wally Karbo gave Bobby his gimmick of “The Brain”. Heenan, who also had success as a wrestler, was a master at taking bumps when an opponent struck him. He was holder of the WWA Canadian Tag Team title at one point in time. Bobby worked for Verne Gagne’s AWA and Georgia Championship Wrestling for years before being employed by Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation.

Heenan managed a wide variety of wrestlers over the years. The late “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Nick Bockwinkel, Ric Flair, Harley Race, the late Andre the Giant, Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson, The Masked Superstar, Terry Taylor, The Brooklyn Brawler, The Barbarian, Haku, the late Curt Hennig, Blackjack Lanza, Bobby Duncum, Sr., King Kong Bundy, the late Big John Studd were managed by Bobby at various times.

Heenan made many close friends in the business. In 1991, Heenan made the transition from manager to broadcast journalist. Basically, Heenan was a color-commentator. He especially enjoyed his relationship with the late Gorilla Monsoon, with whom he co-hosted Prime Time Wrestling on the USA Network. In December 1993, Heenan would leave the World Wrestling Federation for World Championship Wrestling. Heenan made his WCW debut on the Clash of Champions in January 1994 alongside another close friend from his AWA days, Gene Okerlund. Heenan did color commentating on WCW Monday Nitro and the pay-per-views. Heenan became close friends with Mike Tenay during his WCW tenure. In November of 2000, Bobby left WCW.

In early 2001, Heenan would face his greatest opponent: throat cancer. The example he has set for others with serious health problems is inspirational.

Heenan is a devoted family man. He is also very dedicated to the pro wrestling industry and has co-hosted the Cauliflower Alley Club conventions with Mike Tenay. With his humor and tenacity, Bobby Heenan is one-of-a-kind and it is likely that there will never be another one like him.

Elvis Aliaga Captures the NWA Missouri Championship

Elvis has left the building with another championship. Elvis Aliaga that is.. ….2014 has been off to a great start for Harley Race’s young student and after this weekend it has only improved when he added the NWA Missouri Championship in Richland, Missouri in a ten-man Battle Royal when he threw out Jack Gamble to claim the honor.

Aliaga is currently the only double Champion in singles action in the MWR coverage area at this time as he has been an unstoppable WLW Champion ever since defeating Leland Race.

History was Made in Otterville, Missouri, Devyn Nicole Wins the WLW Ladies Championship

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 15, 2014

 photo 2_zps5df1233c.jpg

WLW was filled with exciting and shocking moments in Otterville, Missouri last night as fans were on the edge of their seats from the start.

With the debut of WLW trainee Kyle Roberts, plus a man that my friend Jack Tierney calls the “Giant Killer” (after victories over Mark Sterling and former WLW Champion Brian Breaker) Jon Webb once again upset Sterling, and a new tag team of John E. Rock and Jamell Harris proved that they could take a beating as the Black Hand Warriors left them bloody and battered. WLW Champion Elvis Aliaga proved once again that he will do whatever it will take to hold onto his Championship as he delivered vicious shot with the belt to Jack Gamble secure a victory as referee Richard White was knocked out .

While fans had a lot to be excited about it would be a historical moment in the young career of Devyn Nicole when she was able to defeat Stacey O’Brien for the WLW Ladies Championship. Nicole who has trained under Mr. Hughes (a man that had been managed by the “Greatest Wrestler on Gods Green Earth Harley Race in WCW.) In the past Nicole had been overmatched several times against the 2-time MWR Female Wrestler of the Year, O’Brien, but in a quick moment Nicole proved that she has the championship quality of never giving up as she was able to have her hand raised in victory.

Via the new WLW Ladies Champion Devyn Nicole Facebook page we were able to get a statement from her on her feelings of the night “Tonight, I became your WLW Women’s Champion! Special thanks to Mr. Harley Race for the opportunity to make a home with his company

 photo dn_zps281e7be0.jpg

Winning a Championship is truly an accomplishment but now the young Nicole is the hunted when she walks into the danger zone in Richmond, Missouri on April 19th when the stars of WLW return. Already signed for the new Champ will be a three way match against two of the top female stars in country Stacey O’Brien and the current MWR Female Wrestler of the Year “Miss Natural” Heather Patera .

For more information on this exciting night be sure to check out the WLW website and MWR for updates as they come in.

Pro Wrestling NOAH’S Ryu Nakata passes away- A man that touched lives from around the world.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 18, 2014

 photo 1_zps586158d7.jpg

Ryu Nakata and Harley Race were a winning combination and you could tell by their actions when they were together that they respected and cared for one another.

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

It is so hard to find the right words or say enough about someone when we lose them in our lives. With that said, please know that with this article we hope show a small tribute to Ryu Nakata

Pro Wrestling in the Midwest lost a true friend today when Japans’ Pro Wrestling NOAH Executive Ryu Nakata, passed away. Mr. Nakata, along with Ken Hirayama represented the NOAH promotion to further training for the students around the world every year at his close friend Harley Race’s World League Wrestling promotions’ annual WLW/WWE/NOAH week long camps.

Young wrestling students around the world would travel to the Missouri to the camp, with the hopes that they would be able to improve themselves enough to impress either the staff at WLW or make the trip overseas to work in front of the great Japanese fans.

Throughout the years Nakata was instrumental in bringing the likes of Takashi Suguira, Go Shiozaki, Takeshi Morishima, KENTA, Naomichi Marufuji, and Kenta Kobashi to the Midwest, while giving the opportunities to the students of the camps to go overseas such as Leland Race and the 2013 MWR Wrestler of the Year Jake Dirden.

There is no doubt that he was an important person in the world of pro wrestling in Japan, but on a personal level I would like to honor Ryu Nakata as well as his family and friends for the times that he gave his approval to allow myself the rare opportunity to cover the camps.

During the night of the shows I will always remember the times that he came before the WLW fans to thank them for their support and acknowledge how much he enjoyed coming to the United States. I remember laughing at the Eldon, Show when Mr. Hirayama stated to the crowd that Mr. Nakata was a huge fan of shopping at Wal-Mart.

Today the world lost a great man in Ryu Nakata.

Our hearts and thoughts goes out to the family and friends of Ryu Nakata in this very sad time.

We are thankful to say that we got to know you Mr. Nakata.
