There is no doubt, Saturday night was electric- with amazing action in the ring and what we can best describe as oddness outside of it.  Trust us- you are going to need to watch the show, because our camera crews caught some very interesting conversations.

A huge thanks to all of our great fans who came out and supported Metro Pro on Saturday.

If you weren’t there- you have got to watch on metro sports every Saturday at 11pm (replay Wed. @ Midnight) to see all the great action.

MMWA-SICW Photo Recap from Hillsdale Missouri September 25

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 7, 2010

By Brian Kelley

On September 25th I had the opportunity for a double shot of wrestling action. First off I made my way to Hillsdale Missouri for a FREE MMWA-SICW show sponsored by the Hillsdale Police department.

A beautiful day that saw the community along with the Mayor of Hillsdale come out to check out wrestling action, during the day I spoke to many of the fans who told me this was the very first time they had a chance to see pro wrestling live.

Also in attendance was our friend Patrick Brandmeyer who got the chance to join Herb Simmons at the commentator table. Recently we advertised the MMWA-SICW open door tryout and I was able to meet for the very first time Ben Simon who impressed the management so much that he earned the Announcing job for a company that he grew up watching.

The fans also had the chance to see a true wrestling legend in person as Cowboy Bob Orton was in attendance.

The day saw some great wrestling action, plus MMWA-SICW and the Hillsdale Police Department gave away free concessions, plus gift bags, soccer balls and bicycles throughout the day.

I am going to share with you a few pictures of the days events and after the last one click onto my photobucket for a complete look at all them. MMWA-SICW returned to Fairmont Illinois later that night for a great show that my good friend Mike Van Hoogstraat was able to capture so please check back for MWR in the future for this and all your MMWA-SICW news.

Click here to see all the great pictures from MMWA-SICW in Hillsdale Missouri.

IWA Unlimited Photo 9-12-10 photo recap

Missouri Wrestling Revival debuted at Onley to check out IWA Unlimited for the very first time on September 12 for a fun filled show.

Every Wednesday IWAU gives the local fans a FREE show filled with some of the best young talent in the Midwest. Danny Cannon and Matt Cage had a great match up to go along with a very solid card, that made me wish that this promotion was a little bit closer.

If you live in the STL area take the drive one evening, and though it is around a hour and half to two hour show, you will never know who will be making their way to the ring at IWAU.

Larry Matysik to be a guest on Over the Top Radio hosted by Brian Schenk 8 pm cst tonight

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 5, 2010

Harley Race with Larry Matysik and the late Mickey Garagiola in the back take in wrestling at MMWA-SICW.

The 2009 MWR Lifetime achievement recipient, Larry Matysik will be a guest on the wrestling show Over the Top Radio tonight on www.kqcklive.com to listen live. There should be a phone number or you can chat on your computer to ask one of the most influential men in the sport questions.

Just who is Brian Schenk

From the radio stations Website: Tonight we will see the Iron Sheik defend his WWF Title against Hulk Hogan in an awesome match from The Madison Square Garden!” Those were the words I recall hearing back in January 1984 on my favorite TV show – PRO WRESTLING! Since that day, I have been I have been involved in some way, shape or form with wrestling. In 1992, I was watching a public access TV show back in Illinois, where I am from, and a couple of dudes were rambling on about wrestling. It was odd, because I would eventually befriend these two and join them as a host. Strange how things turn out.Well, things went their way after a bit and I was on my own. I soon hooked up with my friend from Kindergarten, Dan Bartels, and Off The Top Rope was born! He was the perfect FRICK to my FRACK and we had a great run from 1994 up until 2005. I started broadcasting school (waste of money, don’t do it!) in June of 1996, and was blown away with the possibilities of hosting my own RADIO show one day.

Then, BOOM, I interned at a station soon after entering school at WEEF AM 1430 in Highland Park, Illinois from 1997 thru 2005.

It was a lot of fun and over the years, I got the chance to meet and interview a lot of the stars I grew up watching in my youth. Both on the TV side on camera and either in the studio or over the phone for the radio part. Lots of great memories and fortunately, I have kept in touch with many of them. I soon moved over to another station – WKRS AM 1220 in Waukegan, Illinois in 2006. I was on that frequency until May of 2007, when I moved here to Arizona.

It would have been one heck of a commute, that’s for sure. So, here I am with KQCK AM 1510 in San Tan Valley,Arizona and I am looking so forward to this opportunity ahead of me. The ownership, location, and presence of the fine radio station is second to none, and everything feels just right. I also appreciate all of you who are fans of the business and those who will listen as often as you can.

Golden Cirlce: Reinventing The Goof

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 4, 2010

By Greg Anthony

For those who aren’t familiar, a goof is a term we use to describe the “un” in this business. The untalented, the unknowledgeable, the uninteresting. The guys who don’t treat wrestling as a craft to be learned or even at times a business at all. The ones that buy a ring, buy a pair of boots (sometimes) and think that makes them professional wrestlers. Now in todays wrestling, the goofs, unfortunately, outnumber the boys. However, don’t think that goofs are new to this business. In fact, as long as there was a business there was a goof to be the counter culture.

I have a few guys that cut their teeth back in the territory days that I call upon when doing research for articles such as these. With the Jeremy Wood tragedy, the light has finally been shined on the unprepared. I had a hunch, so my question to some guys who mentored me and now I call friends was “Were there goofs back when you started?”. It was almost rhetorical, the answer was “yes”. What I didn’t know was some the very recognizable names that at one time were considered goofs.

One veteran told me that it wasn’t that every outlaw show had nothing but goofs. Looking back, they actually had some good workers, it was just they weren’t as good as the 13-14 man crew that the main territory supported. There were always guys that just didn’t get “it”. Now here we are 2010 and the business is as accessible as its ever been. With internet, shoot interviews, wrestling roundtables, books and many resources to learn wrestling theory to be a goof in this day and age you have to be as resistant as you are dumb.

I have tried very, very hard to be a positive voice in this business. The guys that have no reason being in the business, let alone running their own show when they call me I try to help. Try to give them worthwhile advice to help their little corner of world succeed. More times than not it has come back to bite me ass. Not too long ago a young man contacted me about getting into the business and wanted my honest opinion. I told him like I tell everybody go to reputable trainer, like a Harley Race. Someone that has a track record of getting guys a look in WWE. Not long after that he contacted me and said some local was going to train him for only $500.

I could be cynical, selfish and well typical but I choose to keep helping. Goofs are always going to exist. Trying to exterminate them from the business all together would probably be a losing battle. The only way to win is to take all of us that are trying our best to make something out of nothing and band together. Sink or swim, either you can be viable, helpful, positive influence on our business or you pale in comparison to your competition. That, in my opinion, is the only way the business can not just survive but strive.

Pro Wrestling Phoenix results from September 18th with info on October 16th Cortez vs. Starr

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 2, 2010

PWP Results September 18, 2010

At the beginning of the show, Jayden Draigo came out and once more berated the fans and called “Babyface” Tony Cortez out to hear him out.

Once Draigo put his hands on the PWP Heavyweight Championship, Cortez slapped him and left the ring. As he was exiting, Draigo grabbed his Kendo Stick and swung at Cortez, only to have him catch the stick and take it with him to the back!

1. #1 Shot Challenge: Matty Starr defeated #1 Brett Young

#1 Brett Young came out and issued a #1 Shot Challenge to anyone in the building. Out came Matty Starr much to the fans delight! This was a great back and forth contest with Starr rolling Young up out of nowhere for the three count!

After the match, Starr asked for the microphone and thanked the fans for all their support. He said its time he challenges for the PWP Heavyweight Championship and he doesn’t care who wins later in the night, he wants them in the ring in October!

2. Triple Threat: Joey Daniels defeated Derek Cornell & Buck Albright

This was a very intense Triple Threat match as a returning Albright was looking to start fresh in PWP while both Daniels & Cornell need the win to move up the ranks in PWP.

Highlights include a huge powerbomb neckbreaker off the top rope including all three men. Daniels sneaked into the ring and rolled up Albright to get the much needed win!

3. Rematch: Supafli defeated Jaysin Strife
This was a rematch from August 21 where Supafli showed the PWP fans that he could hang with a former PWP Heavyweight Champion. This match has to be seen to be believed! Amazing back and forth action between these two, as Strife showed his frustration, underestimating the masked man from Mexico City, IA.

All sorts of innovative maneuvers came out of nowhere from both men but when Strife attempted a powerbomb, Supafli quickly rolled through, and had enough leverage to hold Strife down for the three count and the upset win! Strife seemed shocked at the end result, but he raised Supafli’s hand out of respect as the audience cheered.

As we came back from intermission it was announced that PWP Officials had decided to grant Matty Starr a PWP Championship match on October 16, 2010!

4. Preston Maxwell defeated “Rock N Roll” Mike Sydal

Abu Colossus’ music hit the arena speakers, however he did not come out. Preston Maxwell strolled out to his music, mocking his every move and mannerisms. Maxwell proceeded to insult the absent Colossus on the microphone, until his challenger, a returning Sydal came out. Sydal with a new style and energy attempted to use many traditional wrestling holds to subdue Maxwell during the match.

Mike Sydal is full of energy.(Photo Credit Gary Giaffoglione)

A turning point occurred when Maxwell sidestepped the turnbuckle and Sydal flew into the ring post.

The referee helped Sydal fix his injured shoulder but the damage had been done and when Maxwell locked on the Gator Roll Choke, Sydal couldn’t take the pain and tapped out immediately. You can be sure when Colossus hears about the disrespect showed by Maxwell, he will not be happy.

5. PWP Tag Team Championship: Zac James & Ryan Slade w/ Axel Greece retained the Championship over Chris Havius & Donnie Peppercricket.

Before the match former PWP Ring Announcer Axel Greece got on the mic and berated his replacement, PWP Official BJ Bunten. He then offered Havius & Peppercricket a choice, they could go to the back and forget the match was ever supposed to happen, or they could do it the hard way. I think we all know which way the PWP favorites chose! This was a great tag team contest showing not only Havius & Peppercricket’s hatred for the Canadians but also the tightness of both teams. You could see the chemistry flowing and with Axel Greece in the corner it was a rough time for Havius & Peppercricket.

Unfortunately Greece was too much and as Slade baited Peppercricket into a brawl on the outside the PWP Referee Guy Walken followed them allowing Greece to hit Havius with his cane in the ring and James covered him as the referee returned to the ring and counted the three count. Havius & Peppercricket were livid and demanded that they get one more chance. They said this time, if they win, they get Axel Greece in the ring after the match for 5 minutes!

Axel Greece agrees to the stipulation. (Photo Credit Gary Giaffoglione)

Surprisingly, Greece accepted immediately, showing no fear and confidence that James & Slade could pull out a hat trick win.

6. PWP Heavyweight Championship: “Babyface” Tony Cortez retained the Championship over Jayden Draigo

Months and months of torture, disrespect and anger came to a head in the main event of the evening. It seemed like Draigo was right around the corner of Cortez’ every move and was able to get the upper hand more than once.

These two do not like each other at all. (Photo Credit Gary Giaffoglione)

Jayden Draigo pulled out all stops against his enemy Tony Cortez for the PWP Championship. (Photo Credit Gary Giaffoglione)

Cortez showed his tremendous heart and resilience after kicking out of not only 1 but 2 superkicks. You could see the look of shock on Draigo’s face! What happened next was probably the most controversial moment in PWP history. Cortez hit his finishing move, the Pacifier, on Draigo however Draigo’s feet knocked PWP Senior Referee Bryan Whitman out cold in the process. Cortez covered Draigo and the crowd counted along with him as he counted 1,2,3,4,5. Cortez got up to revive the referee and unfortunately this allowed Draigo to grab his Kendo Stick and nail Cortez over the head with it! Draigo dragged the referee over, and he counted the pinfall, 1,2,3! The referee called for the bell, however, PWP Official BJ Bunten refused to ring it! He couldn’t believe his eyes and refused to end the match because of the vicious Kendo Stick shot. He went to the back and brought out PWP Referee Guy Walken as Draigo got the microphone and grabbed the title and began berating the fans and celebrating.

Clothesline. (Photo Credit Gary Giaffoglione)

As Bunten returned with the other referee, the two refs and Bunten began arguing over what happened. As this was going on, Cortez got up and hit a spinebuster on Draigo! The second referee ran into the ring and counted the pin but it was only a two count! As Referee Whitman angrily left the arena, Cortez hit a crippling suplex into piledriver type move to finally get the three count and retain the PWP Championship. As Bunten announced the winner over the house microphone, the fans cheered Cortez and laughed at Draigo. Draigo left the arena but did exclaim that you would not see the last of him in PWP.

Check the PWP Message Board for a statement from PWP Officials regarding the decision in the main event!

It was an incredible night of action and it will be interesting to see what happens next month! Already announced:
PWP Heavyweight Championship Match: “Babyface” Tony Cortez Vs. Matty Starr.

These two men are arguably the most beloved members of the PWP roster. Now they are putting it all on the line for the fans and Starr has an opportunity of a lifetime to taste the glory of the silver strap!

PWP Tag Team Championship Match: Zac James & Ryan Slade w/ Axel Greece Vs. Chris Havius & Donnie Peppercricket.

If Havius & Peppercricket win, they get Axel Greece alone in the ring for 5 minutes! If James & Slade win, Havius & Peppercricket can never challenge for the PWP Tag Titles again as long as James & Slade are champions! This could get very interesting!
More will be announced soon! Thanks to all the fans for supporting us!

Tyler Black makes Final local appearance at AAW before making his way to WWE.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 1, 2010

This past weekend Berwyn, IL All American Wrestling had a send off night of wrestling worthy of a Champion as Tyler Black was on his way to the big dance as many have called it or otherwise WWE . Teaming with his partner Jimmy Jacobs they defended the AAW Tag titles against the red hot team Truth Martini’s – The House of Truth (Josh Raymond/Christian Able).

On the card were many Midwest stars that have made an impact in the MWR Coverage area such as Darin Corbin (one half of the 2008 MWR Tag Team of the Year with Ryan Cruz in the Northstar Express) , MsChif, Zero Gravity, Ricochet, Arik Cannon, Mason Beck the  Chan Clan (Knight Wagner/Jordan McEntyre w/ Ms. Eryn.

On a personal level I wish Tyler Black nothing but the very best in the WWE. I will always be grateful that some one of his talent agreed to support our site here at MWR with his very own MWR Trading Card. I will admit I am not a collector of wrestling memorabilia but I will be the first one in line at the store when his Action figure hits the stands.

For real Tyler Black give it a 100% and we will be cheering you on all the way.

Now for the results of this great show from the AAW Website  along with a music video that AAW played during the show.

AAW “Defining Moment 2010” is in the books and what a night it was. A packed house at the Berwyn Eagles Club witnessed Tyler Black’s final independent match and the below results.

Pre Show:

Patrick O’Sheay / Matt Knicks d. Dutch Doyle / Matu w/ Ryland Foxx

Keith Kreed / Eric Ryan d. Austin Mannix / Bobby Beverly

——————————————————————————-

*Show started with a backstage promo from Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs. They were ready for House of Truth in the Main Event. Crowd was already going crazy for Tyler Black.

Chris “Madness” Hall d. Juice Robinson

Another impressive win for the big man Hall as he defeated a cocky Robinson with a twisting face buster.

* Promo from newcomers known as “CLASH” backstage. Cameron Skyy appeared as the leader of the group dressed all in black that also included J. Miller, Tommy Treznik and Mena Libra. They said they were here to cleanse AAW and it’s fans of their “sins”. They then made their way to their ringside seats.

Aeroform (Louis Lyndon/Flip Kendrick) d. The Chan Clan (Knight Wagner/Jordan McEntyre) w/ Ms. Eryn

Chan Clan held their own but in the end it was a top rope moonsault by Lyndon on Wagner that got the win for Aeroform.

* Promo from Shane Hollister backstage. He said his rehab from a broken leg was done and he would be ready to go next month.

* Promo in the ring with Kevin Harvey interviewing AAW Heavyweight Champion Silas Young. Silas called Bryan Danielson a “pussy” for not coming to Berwyn to wrestle him. He also said it was convenient that Jerry Lynn got hurt and backed out of the show as well. It was announced that Silas would defend the title later in the night against Ricochet. Jimmy Jacobs then came out and said he wanted a shot at Silas but tonight was all about Tyler Blacks last AAW match. He proposed a truce so that Silas would not interfere in their tag title match later but next month all bets were off. Silas agreed.

* CLASH was escorted from ringside by security

Larry Sweeney d. Matt “Krotch” Mayday w/ Scarlett to retain the ICW/ICWA Texarkana Television Title

Sweeney showed a real mean streak in this one and got the win with his feet on the ropes.

After the bout Sweeney went after Scarlett and MsChif made the save hitting Sweeney with the green mist!

– Arik Cannon w/ Dave Prazak d. Samuray Del Sol to retain the AAW Heritage Title with the Glimmering Warlock

After the match Prazak and Cannon demanded more competition. This brought out Shane Hollister. Cannon said they could go right now leading to……

– Shane Hollister d. Arik Cannon to become the NEW AAW HERITAGE CHAMPION

27 seconds was all it took and Hollister rolled up Cannon for the shocking title win as the fans went crazy.

* Promo House of Truth. They were ready to spoil Tyler Blacks goodbye party and once again become AAW Tag Team Champions

– Zero Gravity / Trik Davis d. Chuck Taylor / Johnny Gargano / Danny Duggan

Lots of action here as expected. In the end it was CJ Esparza hitting the Shooting Star Elbow on Duggan for the victory.

Dan Lawrence d. Darrin Corbin with a roll up

* After the match Joey Eastman came to the ring to talk to Corbin. He told him he missed him and wanted to work with the Northstar Express once again. Corbin said he was in a bad place. Ryan Cruz had deserted him, Nikki Mayday had broken up with him and he wasn’t ready to reunite with Joey. Corbin then left the ring and Truth Martini came out. Martini and Eastman went back and forth until Eastman had enough and kicked Martini in the groin. Josh Raymond and Christian Able ran in and beat down Eastman. Martini knocked Joey out cold with his hardcover “Book of Truth”. Two months in a row now that Eastman has been left laying by the H.O.T.

– Mason Beck w/ Val Malone d. Jeff Brooks with a powerbomb

* Promo from Dan Lawrence in the back. He had words for Silas Young. He said the AAW title couldn’t possibly mean as much to Silas as it does to him. Lawrence toasted the crowd with a cold one and warned Silas that he was coming for him if he was able to hold on to the title.

– Silas Young d. Ricochet to retain the AAW Heavyweight Title via submission with a guillotine choke

Back and forth match here as Ricochet used his innovative offense to keep Silas off his game. Ricochet even kicked out of the PeeGee Waja Plunge but Young then immediately slapped on Jimmy Jacobs “End Time” choke to retain the title. The fans gave Ricochet a nice ovation for his efforts.

– The House of Truth (Josh Raymond/Christian Able) w/ Truth Martini d. Tyler Black/Jimmy Jacobs to become the NEW AAW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS

An emotional match as expected here as both teams fought back and forth. The fans were firmly behind the champions. In the closing moments Silas Young came to ringside and attacked Jacobs leaving Black all alone against the H.O.T. Black kicked out of the Tower of Truth and the fans came unglued. He then set up Raymond for “Gods Last Gift” when Raymond quickly countered with an inside cradle for the pin and the titles. House of Truth are now two time AAW Tag Team Champions.

* After the match the locker room filled the ring as Black gave his goodbye speech thanking all the fans and saying AAW was always his second home. A huge ovation for Tyler Black and an “AAW” chant brought the show to a close.

Thanks to everyone who came out. A lot of familiar faces in the crowd and backstage for this very special night.
