Support The Art of Rob Schamberger National Tour! Updates on the he Foreward for the Art Book

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 2, 2013

Adam Pearce !!

Update! The Foreward for the Art Book’s Author!

I’m very honored and pleased to announce that the introduction for my art book will be penned by the five-time NWA World Champion ‘Scrap Iron’ Adam Pearce! Adam is one of the most respected names in independent wrestling and is the very definition of a champion. The fact that he destroyed one of my paintings over another wrestler’s head is beside the point.

Update! New date added!

Photobucket

Come meet Rob Schamberger at Metro Pro Wrestling tonight…

I’ll be appearing March 22nd at Challengers Comics in Chicago! More details to come on what sort of cool things we’ll be getting up to there!

Update! $25 and $50 Level Gifts Upgraded!

I’ve added a download of a digital version of the art book to both the $25 and $50 pledge levels! Bam!

The Most Talked-About Art in Wrestling is Going on the Road!

My name is Rob Schamberger, and I’m in the process of painting every one of professional wrestling’s world champions. The collection will total nearly 230 paintings when it’s done! Just like with a wrestling match, my paintings work better when they’re viewed in person. I also like to talk in person with people about the paintings. To do that, I’m taking them on the road for the Art of Rob Schamberger American Tour 2013!

What Are the Stops for the Tour?

So far I have these stops planned out:

March 22 I’ll be exhibiting at Challengers Comics in Chicago, IL!

March 23 I’ll be attending the Heroes & Legends show in Fort Wayne, IN, where I’ll be debuting my portraits from the Champions Collection of Bret Hart and Tatanka, who are both scheduled to be there!

April 5-7 I’ll be set up at WrestleCon in Secaucus, NJ for Wrestlemania week! I’ll be debuting my Champions Collection paintings of Lex Luger, Tommy Dreamer, the Iron Sheik and Bruno Sammartino, all of whom are scheduled to be in attendance!

April 15-17 I’ll be set up at the Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion in Las Vegas, NV where I’ll be debuting my portrait from the Champions Collection of the CAC’s Iron Mike Mazurski Honoree Ivan Koloff! Plus a special portrait of the CAC’s Lou Thesz Lifetime Achievement Honoree Percy Pringle/ Paul Bearer!

May 4 I’ll be returning to my home base at Metro Pro Wrestling in Kansas City, KS where I’ll be debuting my portraits from the Champions Collection of Missourians Randy Orton and Kane!

Ideally more dates will be added between these appearances! I’ll also be making other appearances during the year, but those aren’t covered by this project.

Wrestling legend and current WWE scout Gerald Brisco

On May 10 and May 11, the Argosy Casino in Alton, Illinois (a suburb north of St. Louis along the Mississippi River) is presenting the Legends of St. Louis Wrestling. On hand will be Harley Race, Baron Von Raschke, Cowboy Bob Orton, Gerry Brisco, Greg Valentine and former Wrestling at the Chase commentator Larry Matysik. On May 10, it will be a meet-and-greet followed by a question and answer period with all of those on hand. Frank Cusumano of KSDK-tv, Channel 5, will be the host.

The next night – May 11 – the legends will be on hand for a Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling card promoted by Herb Simmons. Among the independent stars on hand will be Ron Powers, Ricky Cruz, Bull Schmitt and Flash Flanagan. The intention of the casino is that their relation with Simmons and Matysik will be successful and they will present a show every three or four months perhaps with an appearance of a St. Louis legend.

The STRAP:
A Complete History of Sam Muchnick’s
Missouri State Championship
The definition of a biography is “the account of someone’s life written by someone else.” This book isn’t about “someone’s” life, but author Roger Deem does bring life to the story of the Missouri championship belt, the “crème de la crème” of professional wrestling’s title belts, second only to the world heavyweight title. Deem covers everything about the title, from the creation of the belt in 1972 to its demise with the death of the St. Louis Wrestling Club in 1987.

Held by legendary superstars like Harley Race, Terry Funk, Ric Flair, Jack Brisco, Ted DiBiase, Bob Backlund, Dick Murdoch, Kerry Von Erich, David Von Erich, and many others, the Missouri title was what every wrestler who appeared in St. Louis hoped to win, and each titleholder has been given a section of their own.

But this book isn’t only about the title. It’s a look at the history of the St. Louis wrestling promotion itself during the time the title was in use; the genius of promoter Sam Muchnick; the behind-the-scenes manipulations that determined who would be given the opportunity to hold the title, or have it taken away; and the problems that beset the promotion both from within and without.

Several of the wrestlers who held or wrestled for the title — Kevin Von Erich, Ted DiBiase, Jerry Brisco, Bob Backlund, Ric Flair, Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk, Harley Race, and Ken Patera — as well as others close to the promotion, weigh in on the subject by sharing their memories of the times, and, in many respects, the most important contribution to the story come from Larry Matysik, someone who never wrestled, but was a key figure in the offices of the St. Louis Wrestling Club.

Also included are: listings and descriptions of every match wrestled when the Missouri title was at stake, the television matches in which the champion wrestled on the famous “Wrestling at the Chase” television program, reprints of the “Wrestling” arena program covers, and over 150 photos and images of the wrestlers and the events that took place during that time.

Deem attacks the subject from the viewpoint of a fan who was on the outside of the wrestling business looking in and a photographer on the fringe who made friends with many of the personalities who graced the wrestling ring in both Kiel Auditorium and the St. Louis Arena.

Relive the memories of the days when St. Louis was the wrestling capital of the world and the Missouri heavyweight title was the goal of every wrestler.
