The fright night that was 3XWrestling

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 11, 2010

BY Mark Campos

A frightfully packed crowd witnessed an extravaganza of terror that was “Halloween Horror 4”. Those who survived another thrilling night of pro wrestling action from 3XWrestling will never be the same again! What could have caused such madness? Read on if you dare……….

Before “Halloween Horror 4” started there was pre-show match that featured the ever popular Tyler Cook going against the Las Vegas cowboy Brady A. Dezire. This was great match to add before the show started and if you want to see the result check it out at 3XWreslting.com as this bout will be featured on their next monthly web show “Outside the Ring”.

To start the show officially they began with the always exciting over the top rope battle royal. Many of 3XW’s wrestlers tried to be the last man in the ring as the winner then got a shot at the 3XW Heavyweight title later on in the night. In the end it was down to Brian Ash, “The Unbreakable” Zach Thompson and “The Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Slade. Ash tossed Thompson over the top rope only then to be pushed over by Slade who was the victor. The champ, Rory Fox, came out to congratulate Slade but was suddenly attacked from behind by Ash. As Fox lay wounded on the mat Slade stood over him holding the belt above his head in all his glory.

We were then treated to the Tag Team championship match with current champs “The Gentlemen’s Club” taking on “The Horn Dogs”. “Delicious” Devin Carter and Casanova vigorously tried to get an upper hand on “The Horn Dogs” but with Krotch and Maddog McDowell fully intent on winning the titles it seemed all their efforts were pointless. But being the dirty, underhanded cheats that they are “The Gentlemen’s Club” retained their belts when Carter delivered a very low blow from behind to McDowell to get the pin.

Up next was the 3XW Pure Wrestling Champion “The Laotian Sensation” Ricky Kwong defending his belt against “The Right Price” Aaron Masterson. As always Kwong was lead to the ring by his manger and “Founder of MMA” Chad Mylan who is never at a loss for words when it comes to his wrestlers. Unfortunately for Masterson this may have been the shortest match in 3XW history as Kwong delivered a karate kid style crane kick from the start to get any easy one, two, three.

Midnight Guthrie then made an unannounced appearance and stated that the 3XW board of directors has given Kwong another opponent for the night that being one half of the Northstar Express, Darin Corbin! The crowd was on fire as Corbin charged the ring taking Kwong by surprise. The see saw battle was almost won by Corbin but with interference by his manager Kwong was able to get in a shot below the midsection and ultimately win the contest. Not happy with the win Kwong and Mylan started to stomp on Corbin again but “The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell came out to make the save.

The grudge match was up next as Brian Ash took on his former student “The Unbreakable” Zach Thompson. Even after colliding in the battle royal Thompson was going a hundred miles an hour at Ash from all corners of the ring. Ash seemed to be flustered at first but was able to regain his composure and use his strength and size to his advantage. As always though Ash had his manager “The Commissioner” Todd Countryman at his size and when Thompson almost got a pin Countryman attacked him with his loaded briefcase. Thompson was able to get the briefcase and with the ref distracted nailed Countryman and Ash and got the pin! Men gave standing ovations and women wept with joy as this win brings back Mike Sydal to 3XW and reuniting the fan favorite tag team “The High Flyers”.

After intermission was the match that has had the pro wrestling world buzzing for the last month. Mark Sterling and “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt wanted to settle their feud with a two out of three falls match to determine who the best wrestler in the Midwest is. After having split their wins at 3XW with one a piece this match is to be their final showdown. This war was back and forth from the get go but Sterling punished Wyatt severely and was able to get the first pin. The second pinfall came almost instantly as Wyatt pulled Sterling down for a quick roll up and the win. With the next pinfall being the final one these two outstanding wrestlers would not stay down despite delivering devastating maneuvers and finishers. The end came when Sterling attempted to spear Wyatt but ran head first into a steel chair! Wyatt then put on the Markshooter (aka Sharpshooter) as the ref lifted Sterling’s hand three times and called the match as he appeared to be unconscious. Wyatt then had the nerve to shake Sterling’s hand as he lay knocked out on the canvas and thus declaring this war over.

We then had the privilege of watching “The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell manhandle White Lightning. Prior to the start of the match the reprehensible Chad Mylan came out to offer White Lightning a contract if he could beat and injury Rockwell. Rockwell came out and proved one again that he is a top contender for the Pure Wrestling championship belt and his Rock on Bomb finisher will put out any challenger.

Another tag team bout was featured on this card as Sir Bradley Charles and “The American Fury” Jon West took on the team of American Ground and Pound. This one sided fight ended badly for West as Ben Sailer hosted him on his shoulders while Nate Bash flew for the top turnbuckle hitting a beautiful crossbody that gave them the win. Bash and Sailer, who make up American Ground and Pound, seem to be agitated by fans as of late and have started using some underhanded tactics to their advantage in the ring.

The final match of the night pitted the 3XW Heavyweight champion, Rory Fox, against the battle royal winner, Ryan Slade. Slade has shown improvement throughout his time in 3XW and his Canadian Destroyer finisher is devastating. Fox, being a well groomed veteran, kept Slade on his toes in this fight as they were giving everything they had and then some. This included “The Gentlemen’s Club” making a surprise ring side appearance that distracted Fox and the referee and gave Slade the opportunity to break his Canadian flagpole over Fox’s back. Unbelievably Fox kick out of the pin attempt and was able to move out of the way from Slade’s top rope splash. This allowed Fox to hit him with his Fox bomb and get the cover for the one, two, three. Fox celebrated in the ring and with fans while Ryan Slade left for the back with his Canadian flag between his legs.

Introducing Angelus Layne

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 10, 2010

Angelus Layne stands up for herself against the talented Amy Hennig(Photot Credit Bill Smith)

This past year at MWR we presented MsChif with the 2009 MWR Female Wrestler of the Year plaque. After the article we wanted to see who the fans felt was the most deserving female wrestler at this point of the year in 2010. One name that was on the ballot was Angelus Layne.

A relatively unknown wrestler Angelus has been seen at Pro Wrestling Phoenix taking on all challengers including men to get her name out there. MWR fans may recall that she debuted earlier in the year at World League Wrestling against Amy Hennig.

Is she a front runner for the MWR female of the year in 2010? Most likely not, but Angelus is gaining momentum and experience to make an impact in the near future

MMWA-SICW Photo Recap from Hillsdale Missouri September 25

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 7, 2010

By Brian Kelley

On September 25th I had the opportunity for a double shot of wrestling action. First off I made my way to Hillsdale Missouri for a FREE MMWA-SICW show sponsored by the Hillsdale Police department.

A beautiful day that saw the community along with the Mayor of Hillsdale come out to check out wrestling action, during the day I spoke to many of the fans who told me this was the very first time they had a chance to see pro wrestling live.

Also in attendance was our friend Patrick Brandmeyer who got the chance to join Herb Simmons at the commentator table. Recently we advertised the MMWA-SICW open door tryout and I was able to meet for the very first time Ben Simon who impressed the management so much that he earned the Announcing job for a company that he grew up watching.

The fans also had the chance to see a true wrestling legend in person as Cowboy Bob Orton was in attendance.

The day saw some great wrestling action, plus MMWA-SICW and the Hillsdale Police Department gave away free concessions, plus gift bags, soccer balls and bicycles throughout the day.

I am going to share with you a few pictures of the days events and after the last one click onto my photobucket for a complete look at all them. MMWA-SICW returned to Fairmont Illinois later that night for a great show that my good friend Mike Van Hoogstraat was able to capture so please check back for MWR in the future for this and all your MMWA-SICW news.

Missouri Wrestling Revival debuted at Onley to check out IWA Unlimited for the very first time on September 12 for a fun filled show.

Every Wednesday IWAU gives the local fans a FREE show filled with some of the best young talent in the Midwest. Danny Cannon and Matt Cage had a great match up to go along with a very solid card, that made me wish that this promotion was a little bit closer.

If you live in the STL area take the drive one evening, and though it is around a hour and half to two hour show, you will never know who will be making their way to the ring at IWAU.

Larry Matysik to be a guest on Over the Top Radio hosted by Brian Schenk 8 pm cst tonight

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 5, 2010

Harley Race with Larry Matysik and the late Mickey Garagiola in the back take in wrestling at MMWA-SICW.

The 2009 MWR Lifetime achievement recipient, Larry Matysik will be a guest on the wrestling show Over the Top Radio tonight on www.kqcklive.com to listen live. There should be a phone number or you can chat on your computer to ask one of the most influential men in the sport questions.

Just who is Brian Schenk

From the radio stations Website: Tonight we will see the Iron Sheik defend his WWF Title against Hulk Hogan in an awesome match from The Madison Square Garden!” Those were the words I recall hearing back in January 1984 on my favorite TV show – PRO WRESTLING! Since that day, I have been I have been involved in some way, shape or form with wrestling. In 1992, I was watching a public access TV show back in Illinois, where I am from, and a couple of dudes were rambling on about wrestling. It was odd, because I would eventually befriend these two and join them as a host. Strange how things turn out.Well, things went their way after a bit and I was on my own. I soon hooked up with my friend from Kindergarten, Dan Bartels, and Off The Top Rope was born! He was the perfect FRICK to my FRACK and we had a great run from 1994 up until 2005. I started broadcasting school (waste of money, don’t do it!) in June of 1996, and was blown away with the possibilities of hosting my own RADIO show one day.

Then, BOOM, I interned at a station soon after entering school at WEEF AM 1430 in Highland Park, Illinois from 1997 thru 2005.

It was a lot of fun and over the years, I got the chance to meet and interview a lot of the stars I grew up watching in my youth. Both on the TV side on camera and either in the studio or over the phone for the radio part. Lots of great memories and fortunately, I have kept in touch with many of them. I soon moved over to another station – WKRS AM 1220 in Waukegan, Illinois in 2006. I was on that frequency until May of 2007, when I moved here to Arizona.

It would have been one heck of a commute, that’s for sure. So, here I am with KQCK AM 1510 in San Tan Valley,Arizona and I am looking so forward to this opportunity ahead of me. The ownership, location, and presence of the fine radio station is second to none, and everything feels just right. I also appreciate all of you who are fans of the business and those who will listen as often as you can.
