Stacey O’Brien Defeats Miss Monica to Become a 5-Time WLW Ladies Champion in Grain Valley, Missouri

Posted by flairwhoooooo on September 18, 2016

Miss Monica reached the mountain top at the biggest show of the year for WLW as wrestling superstars Mark Henry, “The Hurricane” Shane Helms and Dave Taylor watched on as she defeated Heather Patera for the WLW Ladies Championship in a 3-way match that also included Stacey O’Brien.

After spending time coming to the United States to train with Harley Race with Karim Brigante, her 2015 has been spectacular, but if there is one lesson she will take with her after her first reign is that the champion is always a marked women.

On a Saturday afternoon in Grain Valley the former champion Stacey O’Brien showcased why she is one of the best women wrestlers in the sport as she tapped out Miss Monica with her deadly Boston crab to once again to hold onto the WLW Ladies Championship.

On September 17th, promoter Herb Simmons has signed a huge mixed tag team match “It’s deportation or termination!” As the Roman dynasty celebrated victory last month, Curtis Wylde and valet Wyldefyre once again came to the ring and disrupted the show for no apparent reason, other than to have their massive egos stroked. After the ensuing chaos finally settled down Karim Brigante and Miss Monica issued a challenge for a mixed tag match,The Wylde’s reluctantly accepted but added a special stipulation…If the Roman dynasty takes the L, they will be deported back to Italy! Herb Simmons then added a stipulation, IF the Wylde’s take the L they face immediate termination! Also making a guest appearance it’s 1/2 of the legendary WWF tag team the killer Bees and CAC president Brian Blair. Call 618-286-4848 for reserved seating, doors open at 6:30pm bell time is 8:00pm.

DW – Where did the Carnie persona come from?

IOU – There was another gimmick we were using and it just kind of transitioned and took off from where it was.

Lineup Change: Espinosa Makes Last-Minute MO Title Defense, Sept. 10

Posted by Ben Simon on September 9, 2016

20160910 MMWA

The MWR Missouri Heavyweight Title is at stake in Brandon Espinosa’s seventh defense at the South Broadway Athletic Club on September 10.

Espy was scheduled to defend the MMWA Tag Team straps with Ace Hawkins.  Hawkins has had to withdraw due to “important personal obligations.”  Espinosa is now paired against Damion Cortess; since it’s a singles match in Missouri, the State title is up for grabs for the man from “The Dirty North STL.”

The main feature on Saturday is the sixth annual St. Louis Cup tournament.

The winner receives a blank championship match contract, good for the title of their choice.  It is redeemable at any MMWA event for one year.  Past winners include (in chronological order) : Brandon Espinosa, Dave Osborne, Brian James, Da’Marius Jones, and Gary Jackson.

Originally a straight-up single-elimination tournament in 2011, the Cup switched to its current format in 2014.  All of the winners became MMWA Heavyweight Champion in the months following their victory.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on September 9, 2016

2

DW – How long have you been wrestling?

DV – As of Dec this year it will be 10 years.

DW – Who has been your biggest supporter when it comes to wrestling?

DV – I would have to say my Mom, we talk several times a week and she is always checking in on my wrestling.

DW – Who is the biggest named wrestler you have wrestled so far?

DV – It would probably be a toss up of either Jerry Lynn or Chris Hero.

DW – I along with everyone else thought you would be the one to take the belt from Gary Jay, but we all know Fitchett did, with that being said could you see yourself going after the title that is held by your best friend?

DV – We have a agreement that we won’t wrestle each other, Unless circumstances change or of course if he drops the title.

0

DW – Who trained you ? and where?

DV – First my training was done with Dingo, I eventually got with Mike Quackenbush from Chikara Pro.

DW – What’s the best advice you have ever been given when it comes to wrestling?

36

DV- Dingo on the first day of training, Keep your eyes open and your mouth shut.

DW – If you wasn’t wrestling what do you think you would be doing?

DV- Playing baseball somewhere, in the outfield.

DW – Tell me something about yourself that nobody knows or people outside of your circle don’t know about you?

DV – Most people don’t know I’m a avid reader, I especially love the Rick Riordan series, I am a huge fan of Greek Mythology .

DW – If you could wrestle anyone living or dead, who would it be?

DV – Bret Hart in his prime, I could learn alot from him.

DW – To date what is your most memorable match?

DV – Probably the 6 man tag it was myself, ACH, And Fitchett, versus Gary Jay, Pierre Abernathy and Evan Gelistico, after the match Dolph Ziggler came up and congratulated us and it was also my first standing ovation.

35

DW – In your wrestling career what is something you wish you would or wouldn’t have done?

DV – I wish i would have started out eating better and working out. Experimenting with my body and started way sooner.

DW – What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the wrestling?

DV – Be yourself, be a good person, don’t let the struggles change you as a person.

00

DW – What can we expect from Davey Vega for the rest of 2016?

DV – Trying to make it, staying healthy and working on my body.

DW- Thanks for taking the time I really appreciate it.

Missouri Rankings Update: WLW Heavyweight Murdoch is Out, WLW Jr. Heavyweight Webb is In

Posted by Ben Simon on September 7, 2016

MO Rankings

The new Official Missouri Rankings list, good through October, has been calculated and published.  Head over to the MO Rankings page for the latest publication.  To qualify for the Top 10, a wrestler must have the highest ratings with consistent activity (RD ≤ 200).  Rankings are published every two months.

For details on how the rankings work, read the Introduction

MOVEMENTS & EXPLANATIONS

CBrandon Espinosa is on an eight-match winning streak since his Missouri Title victory in May.  Even though Espinosa sometimes picks his opponents, his cross armbar and brainbuster have guaranteed victory.  There is no doubt that Espy is a wrestling workhorse in the State.

#1Ricky Cruz pinned “Superstar” Steve Fender in July (Fender later became the first New Breed Wrestling champion) and is knocking on the ceiling for a rematch with Espinosa.  Since the closing of the Stratford Bar & Grill in Fenton and thus Dynamo Pro’s diminished Missouri schedule, the supposed rematch would probably have to take place outside of Saint Louis.

#2Gary Jackson and #4Mitch Johnson traded slots for this update.  Jackson made B.T. Daramola tap out at South Broadway, while Detroit’s Johnson was pinned by NWA National Heavyweight Champion “Golden Boy” Greg Anthony.

#3Jake Dirden has been competing for the new Cape Championship Wrestling.  “Dirdey” lost his shot at the title in Cape Girardeau against the relatively-unknown Brandon Barbwire.  Dirden holds his position.

Despite defending his Dynamo Pro D-1 Title in Illinois, #5Outtkast did nothing in Missouri this period.  He still advanced two steps due to the following two instances.

Trevor Murdoch hasn’t wrestled a singles match here since March 26.  The WLW Heavyweight Champion is inactive and so the former #5 drops from the rankings.

#10Brian James stumbled four rungs down after trading matches and the MMWA TV Championship with underdog Danny Adams.

#6Leland Race rises four spots after beating Kyle Roberts and Brian Breaker.  With Murdoch absent, when will Race get his next WLW title shot?

Welcome back to #7Jon Webb, who is the first WLW Junior Heavyweight Champion after he clinched the tournament final against Jayden Fenix in St. Peters.

#9Mike Outlaw and #8Moondog Rover swapped from last time.  Outlaw lost his MO Title match against Espinosa; Rover didn’t have a match.  Worthy of mention: Outlaw beat Dirden in Illinois for the Dynamo Pro Title.  That match is not factored into this list.
