Could the future of the NWA include a little Harley Race tradition with Rob Conway vs. Trevor Murdoch and Kacee Carlisle vs. Heather Patera ?

Rob Conway has defended his NWA Title around the world including multi trips to Japan.

The NWA returned to the Midwest in 2013 with a huge NWA World Championship match between the current NWA World Champion Rob Conway and the NWA Central States Champion Evan “Money” Morris on August 31st. For the first time Money got to feel first-hand the power and talent of one of the Champion of the World . Though the outcome was a loss, the match should provide experience for Money as he looks to defend his Central States Championship and prove to the NWA that he is deserving of another shot.

Till then Rob Conway is on the road taking on all challengers that feels if they are man enough to take on “The Iron Man” one on one.

Evan Money feels the power of the Champ Conway

In less than two weeks Rob Conway is set to defend the title against former ECW Champion and WWE, TNA star Rhino in San Antonio, Texas at “Showdown in September” on September 21st in a battle between two true monsters of the ring. This match promises to be a bruising affair that will leave even the winner beat and battered. ‘

If Conway can survive the onslaught of Rhino, life will not get any easier and he will be on his way to meet wrestling legend Liger on September, 29th in Japan in what promises to be a classic. If Conway is able to retain the title from the legend in his home country, there is one man that has his eyes set on the NWA Title and that is former 8-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Harley Race’s own student Trevor Murdoch.

Murdoch, a former 3-time WWE Tag Team Champion has wrestled around the world thrilling fans in the main event against the very best. Murdoch a former 4-time Harley Race owned World League Wrestling champion would be a true threat to the NWA World title, and would have extra desire to add his name to his mentor in the record books of the historic NWA.

NWA President Bruce R Tharpe and the NWA World Champion Rob Conway

Missouri Wrestling Revival caught up with the NWA President Bruce R Tharpe to ask him for his thoughts of possibility of a match between the NWA World Champion Rob Conway and Trevor Murdoch and the President was quick to say that “Both Murdoch and Patera are formidable challengers and these would both be great matches!”

Yet, Murdoch is not the only champion that is letting it be known that they have been seeking an opportunity to add their name to the NWA dynasty.

No woman has won the WLW Ladies Championship more than Miss Natural, is she poised to win the NWA Women’s Championship?

The daughter of Ken Patera, “Miss Natural” Heather Patera have been traveling the country seeking a challenge that is capable of matching up with her skills, something that very few are able to do. Trained by her father, as well as Harley Race, she has been the WLW Ladies Champion 6 times, while appearing at SHIMMER and capturing huge wins against the former NWA Women’s champion MsChif in her hometown.

 photo 1069296_161012847416456_1296130900_n_zpse19c681c.png

Kacee Carlisle captured the NWA Women’s title from the 3 –time NWA Women’s champion Tasha Simone on October 20, 2012 and has not looked backed ever since. She is in the Pro Wrestling Illustrated for the 34th week in a row and is now number 4 in the world.

If this match was to happen the fans of the Midwest wrestling would be witness to two of the hardest hitting females in the sport today. Miss Natural would be the hunter seeking to pounce and add the NWA Women’s World title to go along the many accolades of her father Ken Patera and become the 22nd women to hold onto a title that was first held by wrestling great Mildred Burke.

Trained by the 8-time Former NWA World Champion Trevor Murdoch and Miss Natural have been capturing huge wins around the country.

If Harley Race’s most decorated students invade the NWA will anyone be able to stop them?

May 10 and 11 was a magical weekend for the fans of St Louis as SICW promoter Herb Simmons and the Argosy Casino joined forces to celebrate the 54th anniversary of Wrestling at the Chase. Legends and Superstars such as Harley Race, Baron Von Raschke, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, Cowboy Bob Orton, WWE talent scout Gerry Brisco and former Wrestling at the Chase announcer Larry Matysik all came to thank the fans for their support throughout the years in St Louis.

Yet it only takes one person bad attitude to bring down a party and surprise surprise ,that man would be the  former Classic Wrestling Champion Ron Powers.

Ron Powers and Bob Orton did not see eye to eye all night long. After a sneak attack chair shot from Powers, the legend Cowboy Bob Orton will look to get revenge on Powers THIS SATURDAY NIGHT in East Carondelet, Illinois – Photo Credit Brian Kelley

In a fast paced and hectic battle, special referee Orton kept Powers from using a chair on Schmitt , distracting Powers and allowing him to be caught in a back slide for the pin.  Powers then went berserk, rammed Bull into Orton and cracked Orton with a vicious chair shot!

Orton has never been one to step aside , quickly got on the phone to speak to his friend Trevor Murdoch to ask him to take his place on the card so that he could get his hands on Powers.

So MWR fans on Sunday night you are able to see third generation wrestler Randy Orton return home to St Louis to take on the Big Show at WWE Extreme Rules PPV.  You can be one of the fans at the PPV that can say they saw his dad in action the night before.

MWR Book Review: The Somebody Obsession- A Nobody’s Desperate Journey to Stardom by Matt Murphy

Missouri Wrestling Revival Book Review: The Somebody Obsession- A Nobody’s Desperate Journey to Stardom by Matt Murphy

People are often discussed with the notion that societies are black and white. In the world of wrestling it is magnified even more so: promoters are people looking to use their wrestlers, the wrestlers are loose cannons, and the fans, well, we are all missing a few pieces to the puzzle.

The truth of the situation is that each one of us can fit that description at one point during our life. Life is not easy and sometimes the desire to succeed can turn a great payout promoter to struggle to pay his wrestlers, cause a wrestler with all the tools to succeed to become bitter, or have a hard working fan get so upset during a match that he does or says something he/she regrets.

For many, wrestling is a way of life. Whether you work in the sport or you just love cheering on your favorite wrestler, we just can not get enough of the wild world of pro wrestling.

At Missouri Wrestling Revival.com, you have seen many of the stars of the Midwest go after titles, do promos and travel town to town in the hopes of getting noticed. Each man and woman has a tale to tell.

One man with such a story to tell is “All That” Matt Murphy. Murphy grew up in the Midwest, not with a silver spoon in his mouth but with hardships and a love of pro wrestling.

His story talks to the reader with an honest look at himself, his friends, and even his closest peers in wrestling.

His first claim to fame was being named “The first graduate student of former World Champion Harley Race’s Wrestling Academy” but what a trip it was to become that.

Murphy makes you feel like you were right there as he struggles to become a man as a teenager to coming back home as a boy that lived his dreams. Stories of who helped him and who took their advantages of himself and other wrestlers are high points throughout the book.

This is easily a must read for any wrestling fan or aspiring young boy that truly wants a taste of a guy who has had the opportunity to make it to Japan and the disappointment of not making it to the WWE.

Matt Murphy was able to see his friend and fellow WLW Alumni Trevor Murdock make it to the WWE with much success. Hear his thoughts on that, as well as his time working with Ian Rotten’s IWA Mid-South along with current WWE Superstar CM Punk. What kind of impression did former wrestlers Big Van Vader and Meng leave on him plus stories of his time with Pro Wrestling NOAH.

I have had the pleasure of working with Matt Murphy in the past and this book gives us a true look at the man who has been a winner, a underachiever with much self doubt, a self proclaimed asshole, and a man who by all means overachieved and did not appreciate it.

After my final assessment of Murphy with working with him and reading his books, I feel as if he is one of wrestling’s best kept secrets. Matt Murphy is a man who has a wealth of wrestling knowledge that just does not sugar coat his thoughts. If given the chance I have no doubt that Murphy is capable of improving the world of wrestling as we know it today.

His book delivers with a must read story for every fan that loves wrestling.

Ron Powers shoots on the MWR,the Midwest and promoter Herb Simmons.

Wow, whomever wrote this has a big misunderstanding of what I am about.

Has anyone from this site  ever interview me about any of this?

I’ll answer that…..NO! You people interview the fans, the promotors, and all the guys in the locker room, who all have tall aspirations of going to the big show. This is usually followed by a handshake or a hug. Do you want to know the truth? Like Jack said,”You can’t handle the truth”. The truth is, this was, at one time, the most brutal profession to be in. The toll it would take on your body and mind was unimagineable. Keeping injuries a secret, keeping your head on a swivel, and the lack of trust with the bookers and talent, usually, was a day to day thing.

I was, as Terry Taylor described, “wrestlings best kept secret”.

World Championship Wrestling, World Wrestling Federation, and numerous companies in Japan, all wanted me on their roster. I brought Lex (Luger)to the point of collapsing after a match at a house show. The phone would not stop ringing. I knocked out the “Great Muta” in Japan. After that tour, I almost had to change my phone number. However, I had the ability to do, what alot of wrestlers couldn’t do, say NO. I was married with kids and had a great job. I knew I couldn’t keep both sides happy, so I chose family. I would work spots for all of them periodically, but if you don’t sell your soul to Them, you were just a drone. This is where I was different. I wouldn’t sell out. Bruiser Brody always told me to take what I want, and leave be, what I don’t. I’ve followed that advice since 1987.

Gary Jackson is no light weight himself but here he struggles from the strength of Ron Powers * Photo Credit Brian Kelley*

I might have aged, I might be 15Lbs heavier than when I retired in 2004, but I can still do my job better than anyone else, today. You see what I want to show you. You hear what I want to tell you. I have the ability to beat you in your mind, before we even lock up. When I face another man across that ring, I don’t see nervousness or excitement. I see fear in his eyes. I see him contemplate about finding another profession. I see his family look away. I can watch every match, at every show, and tell you who has potential, at a glance.

I look at your “trading card” list, and I see a few challenges, but not many. B.G. James, Mike Sydal, Sean Vincent, Mark Sterling, and Trevor Murdoch to name a few. However, back in WLW, I beat Trevor’s ass so bad, I guess he changed his name. Alot of the guys on the list, I’ve never heard of. I wont judge. As far as the rest of them, its like being really good at whiffleball, and trying to play pro baseball. You won’t make it past the first pitch.

Herb, I’m throwing a no hitter as your “Classic Heavyweight Wrestling Champion“. I know you are starting to get a little nervous about the amount of money your spending trying to knock me off. It will not happen. You brought in Danny Boy, Bob Orton, Dory Funk, and now Ted Dibiase, all to try to take me out. The only thing your doing, is turning the SICW into a grave yard. Vincent and I are just getting warmed up.

Keep sending bodies, and I’ll change my wrestling name to Kavorkian.

Once It’s in Your Blood… By Matt Murphy

Posted by flairwhoooooo on February 19, 2011

Just a few months ago, I was content with my role as a passive wrestling fan. I watched WWE programming once in a while with lukewarm interest, mostly to see how a few of my friends were doing and what storylines they were involved with.

An old friend said I was getting bitter towards the wrestling business. He couldn’t have been more wrong. I love wrestling, always have and always will, but I had already struck out with WWE as a writer didn’t see any future for myself in the business. I thought it would be best for me and for my family if I just stayed away from wrestling.

And I tried. I pushed wrestling to the back of my mind did what I could to leave it there. My wrestling DVD library started to collect dust. And as I finished the first draft of my latest book, The Somebody Obsession: A Nobody’s Desperate Journey to Stardom, I wrote about my relationship with wrestling as if (and believing) I’d found closure.

My passion for wrestling never died and I could still feel it inside, but I dismissed it as indigestion and moved on with my life.

It had been more than a year since I’d done an interview when some old friends invited me to appear as the guest on their Squared Circle Round Table wrestling talk show on JCTV in Jefferson City. I wasn’t nervous or excited when the interview started, but I surprisingly had a blast talking wrestling with them. We filmed a pair of one-hour episodes and I felt like could have sat there and talked wrestling all night.

At Christmastime, I was adding items to my Amazon wish list to make my wife’s gift-buying as painless as possible. I thought it might be fun to kick my son’s butt at some WWE Smackdown vs. Raw on the Xbox 360, so I added that game to the list. On Christmas Eve, we let Hunter open one present. In turn, he insisted that I open one as well and he picked out the wrestling game to be that early gift. Minutes into my first match against Hunter, I could see that he was going to get hooked on wrestling.

During the next month, I watched and worried as Hunter’s obsession with wrestling grew. He staged matches with his rapidly growing collection of action figures, wrestled with his giant stuffed Batman on the dining-room floor, watched my Wrestlemania anthology and other wrestling DVDs (ever seen a five-year-old choose to watch a Verne Gagne vs. Baron Von Raschke match?), and played that wrestling video game so much that I had to buy a kitchen timer to make sure he still made time for other activities. I even tried to distract him with a little Super Smash Flash 2 game but after a few tries he went back to his wrestling! Have to try again later…

I had always said I would support my son’s interests to the best of my ability, no matter what those interests were, and he was putting that promise to the test.

Wrestling was a big part of my past that I expected to stay in the past, but he pulled me back in. And despite my uncertainty as I felt it happening, deep down I was glad.

I started looking for ways to contribute to the business again.

I’ve been called both a hack and a genius when it comes to the wrestling business. While the truth probably lies somewhere in between, I’ve always felt like I had something special to offer.

Many people who leave the business miss the camaraderie among the boys most of all. I miss it, of course, but more than anything I miss the thrill of feeling my creative wheels constantly turning, of scribbling down ideas for gimmicks and storylines and match finishes as fast as I could before they were lost forever, and that sense of accomplishment when I watched one of my ideas played out in front of a live crowd. Those are feelings I’ve never experienced in a “real” job and I miss them.

While browsing Facebook, I came up with an idea to create a networking site similar to Facebook but exclusively for those working in the business. Instead of piling that idea on the growing heap of ideas I’ve had in the last couple years that never made it a step further, I created the site that night. After one week, Kayfabe Connect has almost 80 members. I hope to see that number grow to 250 members in the next three months.

I didn’t watch Raw on Monday night but I heard about the Rock’s return soon afterwards. I found it on YouTube and watched in awe, forgetting about all my successes and failures in the business, and got completely engrossed in the segment once again as a fan. For the first time in I-don’t-know-how-long, I can’t wait until next Monday night.

A few nights ago, I went into the Harley Race Wrestling Academy for the first time in more than a year. I spoke briefly with Harley, who I’d only seen once during that time, and stood beside my old friend Trevor Murdock as we watched our sons, who are two months apart in age and are best friends, wrestle around. Since then, Hunter can’t stop begging me to take him back there. It seems that wrestling is in his blood, just as it’s in mine. Maybe this is just a phase and he’ll lose interest, and it’s okay with me if that happens, but for now I’m having fun watching him get wrapped up in wrestling the same way I did when I was a kid.

I don’t know what the future holds for me in wrestling. I know only two things: 1.) I want to work in the business in some capacity again, and 2.) I don’t expect to make profit in wrestling, but I owe it to my family to make sure I don’t take a loss, either.

No matter what happens between me and the wrestling business in the future, it feels pretty damned good right now to feel that fire rekindled.
