Breaking news- William Regal WILL BE ACTIVELY COMPETING at WLW Night of Superstars on Oct 22nd!!

#####Press Release#####
For Immediate Release

October 22nd, 2011 will be another exciting night of wrestling put on by World League Wrestling! Harley Race, founder and CEO, has arranged for another professional wrestling show to return to Eldon, Missouri and this show will be unlike any other!

Each year, World League Wrestling and the Harley Race Wrestling Academy conducts an annual wrestling camp that hundreds of wrestlers have attended over the years. This camp is the only one of its kind due to the amount of media that it receives as well as the instructors who attend the camp itself.

In years past, instructors have included John Laurinaitis, Ricky Steamboat, Tom Pritchard, Takashi Suguira, Go Shiozaki, Takeshi Morishima, KENTA, Naomichi Marufuji, Kenta Kobashi, Ty Bailey, and many more.

This year’s camp will feature Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, William Regal, Kevin Von Erich, and Harley Race along with representatives from Pro-Wrestling NOAH Ken Hirayama and Ryu Nakata.

After the week long instructional camp put on by these 4 legends in professional wrestling, World League Wrestling will be running a show on Saturday October 22nd. The show will take place at the Eldon High School gymnasium located at 101 South Pine Street in Eldon, MO.

The entire card has yet to be determined; however one match has been announced. Former WWE superstar Trevor Murdock and “Wild” Wade Chism will square off against “All That” Matt Murphy and “Superstar” Steve. These four competitors have been with WLW for years and have had spectacular matches against one another. This tag team feud will return one more time on October 22nd.

If the matches itself aren’t enough reason to attend the show, fans have the opportunity to meet the legends themselves. William Regal, Ricky Steamboat, Kevin Von Erich, and Harley Race will all be in attendance for the event at the Eldon High School gymnasium. Kevin Von Erich RARELY makes independent wrestling appearances due to his retirement. He has guaranteed that he will at the event in Eldon on Oct. 22nd and is looking forward to meeting the fans. With Regal and Steamboat both under W.W.E. contracts, they cannot make appearances like they will be doing on Oct. 22nd. But due to Harley’s outstanding working relationship with W.W.E., they are coming to Eldon to attend the “Night of the Superstars”. Along with the two legends attending, the 2008 King of the Ring and multi-time W.W.E champion William Regal WILL BE ACTIVELY COMPETING that night. This is unheard of, but again, due to Race’s exceptional relationship with W.W.E., Regal is able to compete that night.

To buy tickets for the event, please contact one of the following ticket outlets:
Eldon Family Fitness – 573-392-9997
Whittles Pub & Grub – 573-392-5900
J.J. Twigs Pizza & Pub/Risky’s Sports Bar – 573-392-9911
World League Wrestling offices – 573-392-4100 or email wlwtickets@earthlink.net

October 22nd doors open at 6:00pm, with show starting at 7:00pm.

It is time for the NWA to step up and bring the best in the tournament for the NWA JR World Championship tournament?

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 31, 2011

By Brian Kelley

The NWA was once the King of wrestling. In my heart the three letters combined will always have a place in my heart as well as many fans around the world.

Many believe that the NWA is long and gone, but I have faith that the King will rise from the ashes to become a true player in the very near future. If it is to happen it will have to start in 2011.

When two champions the NWA World Champion the Sheik was stripped of his belt and the NWA Junior World Champion Craig Classic walked away from the title, it put the world on notice. How would the mighty NWA respond to the actions of Sheik and Classic?

With the rumblings of a tournament for the NWA Junior title I have looked closely at the players that can bring honor and prestige back the NWA as they prepare for their NWA Junior Tournament on Oct 7th.

Four  men stand out among the rest.

First off we have Tony Kozina , a former two time NWA Junior Champion, Kozina has been very vocal in his desire to regain the NWA Junior Championship. While Kozina has trained none other than ROH World Champion Davey Richards as well as rising superstar Kyle O’Reilly he still is a main event player.

Recently, Kozina has been seen wrestling for Ring Of Honor and top notch promotions around the country . A master of controlling a match from start to finish, no wrestler is more focused to become the NWA Junior Champion.

One of the most traveled stars in the sport today Kozina has felt that Classic was his for the taking and had a match set up in October with Classic prior to the Champ surrendering the title.

Kahagas vs Joe Bravo, Dominican Wrestling Entertainment

Also in the running would be none other than the Tokyo Monster Kahagas. The feared veteran of the sport has traveled worldwide while taking on a who’s who in wrestling today. He quickly became a draw in the Midwest in a very short time while many await his return.

This year on June 18, 2011, in Sherman, TX, Kahagas participated in the first ever GWT Indy World Championship and earned runner up for the title. Legendary Judges that were present throughout the Bracket on Sunday and the Championship match were Harley Race, Mando Guerrero, Tugboat Taylor, Stan Hansen Iceman King Parsons, Col. Buck Robley, WCW’s Awesome Kong, Chris Youngblood, Head Ref. James Beard and Japan’s NOAH, GM Ryu Nakada. According to the Judges, it could have gone either way; both wrestlers have tremendous Talent and work hard. Going into Sunday’s 32-Man Bracket, the Tokyo Monster Kahagas swept the first three days of the round robin tournament had a Bye in the 1st Round with the highest overall score. In the final match of the tournament Kahagas would lose by one point to 16 year Heavyweight veteran Tim Storm.

Kahagas has been in the ring with former NWA World Champions Dusty Rhodes, Blue Demon JR, Tony Kozina and many other top stars in the world.  Several of today and yesterday stars have contacted MWR to let us know that they feel as if Kahagas can restore honor back to the NWA.

Jason Jones has left many men Frustrated with his wrestling skills in matches in 2011. *Photo Credit Bill Smith*

Then one of the hottest rising stars in the Midwest, Jason Jones. Jason Jones in 2011 won the first ever two day tournament for the Harley Race Invitational earlier this summer cementing him as one of the top men in the sport. With victories over Jeff Strong, Mark Sterling and Ryan Drago. Jones would receive his trophy from two legends that night in Race himself and WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Pipper. Jones is currently one of the top contenders for Harley Race’s World League Wrestling title and with training from both Harley, Pro Wrestling Noah and WWE scouts at the WLW/Pro Wrestling Noah Camp in October in Eldon Missouri there is no doubt that he is about to get that much more dangerous.

Jeremy Wyatt can match holds with any men in the sport today. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Last, but not least we have the NWA Central States Champion Jeremy Wyatt . The NWA in its heyday had the NWA Central States title known as a stepping stone for the NWA World Title. Jeremy Wyatt this year alone captured the NWA Central States and Missouri title in 2011 along with the 3XW and HVW championship.Wyatt joined an elite class of the only people to hold the NWA Central states and Missouri Championship at the same time along with Harley Race and Cowboy Bob Orton Jr.

3-time MWR matche of the year winner, Wyatt has won so many titles that he is named the “Belt Collector”  and a classic 60 min Iron Man match this year with Mark Sterling is why many fans in the Midwest feel as if he is the number one wrestler not signed by WWE/TNA or ROH today.

What a crime it has been to have a man that has headlined the most main events around the Midwest for the past four years not even mentioned in either the NWA Junior and World title.

It is time for the NWA to bring the best to showcase their skills in the NWA Tournament in 2011.

Ethan Wright and The Cancun Kid may be new to the scene but the fact that they were able to defeat Mark Sterling and Steve Fender for the WLW tag team titles where many could not speaks volumes. High flying mixed with a great ground game that was tested at the Harley Race’s Wrestling Academy has this exciting tag team set for many years to come.

Dory Funk JR thrills fans young and old in St Louis in 2011 at MMWA-SICW

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 24, 2011

By Brian Kelley
With great info from Larry Matysik’s book From the Golden Era-The St. Louis Wrestling Record Book 1959 to 1983

Dory Funk Jr’s connection with the city of St. Louis is etched in stone. During Funk Jr’s historical four year NWA World Championship reign he would defend the title many times in the great city .

On February 11, 1969, in Tampa, Florida Funk captured the NWA World Championship with a victory over Gene Kiniski. Eleven days later on February 22, 1969 Funk would return to ST Louis to settle the score with rival Waldo Von Erich under “Texas Death Match Rules.”

Luck would have it for Waldo Von Erich that Sam Muchnick, Promoter in St. Louis and President of the National Wrestling Alliance changed the match from a Texas Death Match but to a World Title opportunity. The fans would be able to see Funk win a two out of three falls match when Funk won the first fall and Von Erich was not able to continue due to a shoulder injury.

Fans around the world know the name Bobby “The Brain” Heenan as the man who was instrumental in bring Pro Wrestling mainstream with his charismatic ability and quick wit while chasing mega star Hulk Hogan’s WWF (E) title during the Rock and Wrestling era.

Yet it was many years before that in St Louis that Hennan had protégé Black Jack Lanza in line to take the NWA World Championship. The two would sell out the Kiel Auditorium not once but twice, but even with the genius Hennan is Lanza’s corner Dory Funk Jr would not be dethroned.

For the next four years Dory Funk Jr. would defend the NWA World title around the world while bringing sell outs to St Louis with the very best challengers of that day. Fans would see classic matches between Funk Jr. and Dick the Bruiser, Jack and Jerry Brisco, Johnny Valentine, Rufus R. Jones, Baron Von Raschke and Harley Race before losing the title to Race in Kansas City on March 24th 1974.

In 1974 Dory Funk Jr would be the NWA Missouri Champion by defeating Harley Race on May 24th 1974 during a two out of three falls match at the Kiel.

Funk Jr. as the NWA Missouri Champion would get a victory of then NWA World Champion in St Louis on Nov ember 15 1974, Jack Brisco. St Louis announcer and historian Larry Matysik recalls in his book From the Golden Era-The St. Louis Wrestling Record Book 1959 to 1983 “*Dory Funk Jr. beat NWA Champion Jack Brisco, who did retain the title. Lou Thesz, special referee. 1-Brisco was DQ for throwing the bloody Funk over the top rope after 51:30. Neither man scored a fall in the remainder of the one-hour limit. As winner of the only fall, Funk was awarded the victory. But the challenger could not win the title by DQ, nor by winning only one fall of a best-of-three match, so Brisco kept the championship. This was the fifth consecutive battle between Brisco and Dory Jr. in almost four years that went the full one hour limit.

As the Missouri Champion Dory Funk Jr.defeated Killer Kowalski, in his last match in St Louis. Kowalski would go onto be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame and train current WWE Star Hunter Hearst Helmsey, TNA Knockout Chyna among many others before he passed away on August of 2008.

The great Harley Race would regain the NWA Missouri Championship beating Dory Funk Jr. in a two out of three falls match on February. 21, 1975.

Dory would  return to action for years in St Louis with a notable match on Aug. 6, 1982 at the Kiel against NWA Champion Ric Flair losing a two out of three falls battle.

In all as a World Champion Dory Funk Jr defended the NWA Championship 24 times while drawing over 256,871 total attendances which is an astounding average of 10,703.

This past Saturday in East Carondelet Illinois Dory Funk JR returned to action at the young age of 71 in a three way tag match with partner Chaz Wesson and Gary Jackson against Sean Vincent, Kevin X and CWC Champion Ron Powers.

In a true testament to Dory Funk Jr.’s charisma and talent, I witness fans young and old on their feet at the end of a very entertaining match.

The fans in St Louis still love Dory Funk JR *Photo Credit Brian Kelley *

Dory Funk JR has been inducted in every Wrestling Hall of fame that is creditable including the St Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame. His legacy will always have strong ties to the city of St Louis and thanks to the fine people at MMWA-SICW we had a special moment in wrestling history. Forty one years after his first NWA World title defense in St Louis, Funk Jr. returned to say thanks to the fans of the Midwest.

MWR fans will be thrilled to hear that Dory Funk Jr sat down with Larry Matysik in a special interview that can be purchased in the near future. Look for details on how in the future at MWR.

Dory Funk Jr. did not come alone to St Louis as he brought with him is lovely wife Marti and the students n the Funking Conservatory, their professional wrestling school which is also the Official American Training Center for All Japan Pro Wrestling. Please click on this link to watch Dory Funk Jr’s match along with the students of the night.

MWR Trading Card 41 – Brian Breaker

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 21, 2011

Brian Breaker brings to the ring a rare combination of power and wrestling ability that has the wrestling world on notice.

Graduating from the Harley Race Wrestling Academy in 2007, he quickly joined up with rugged and tough Dinn T Moore. The two would run rough shot over the competition on their way to the WLW Tag Team Championship.

After the two broke up Breaker took that as an opportunity to set his sights on the WLW Championship. During WLW’S ten year anniversary Brian Breaker would capture the WLW title from “Superstar” Steve Fender in front of a packed house.

This month Brian Breaker traveled all the way to Japan to wrestle for Pro Wrestling Noah.

Missouri Wrestling Revival is excited to have this rising superstar as a part of our MWR Trading card set. Do not hesitate to get your own Brian Breaker trading card.
