DAMN …..Davey Vega Presented with the 2016 MWR Future Star of the Year Plaque at CCW

Posted by flairwhoooooo on May 10, 2017

One of the best wrestlers today Jeff Cobb is now one half of the CCW Tag Team Champions. Wrestling legend Ron Simmons approves.

On a night that featured new champions, superstars and even a special appearance from WWE legend Ron Simmons at Cape Championship Wrestling, Missouri Wrestling Revival was honored to present Davey Vega with one of the 2016 MWR Future Star award on such a huge event.

Davey Vega was set to face former TNA star Joey Ryan in a highly entertaining matchup, so it was only fitting to have MWR’S Ben Simon to deliver the plaque to Vega in front of over 600 fans that loved wrestling.

Once again the best is yet to come for Davey Vega and we look forward to seeing him reach for the top in the sport.

Dartallion Allen JR MWR Top Draw: 2016 MWR Future Star of the Year Davey Vega

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 15, 2017

Davey Vega has been one of the best kept secrets in the Midwest for some time. One of those reasons is because of his limited exposure in the area due to seeking out challengers outside of the area, but if you were to ask any of the fans of St. Louis Anarchy, they would tell you that he has been a star for years.

MWR agrees with them, but there is no doubt that he has only touched the surface of what he is able to accomplish. Recently at NWL (as Davey Gibson) we watched a wrestling clinic when he went toe to toe with the former Ring of Honor World Champion Kyle O’Reilly in a match at the Casa Loma Ballroom that is an early candidate for match of the year.

Speaking of matches of the year candidates, Vega recently had not one, but two battles that would have to be considered when he teamed with Blood Brother teammate Mathew Grundy ( and fellow 2016 MWR Future Star of the Year Mat Fitchett) against the Royal Blood (Jet and Jax Royal). The two matches left fans wanting more and as my friend Patrick Brandmeyer stated had a feel of the Rock and Roll Express and Midnight Express clashes that set a standard in tag team competition in the 80’s.

Regardless if  he is to find success as a singles star or in tag team action, it is our belief that Davey Vega is one of the premier stars in the sport for many years to come. We welcome you to come out next Saturday at Cape Championship Wrestling as we present him with the 2016 MWR Future Star Plaque in the epic card in Cape Girardeau , Missouri when he will take on former TNA star Joey Ryan.

This MWR plaque is sponsored by our good friend Mike Wilson’ Shooter Spotlight, and will feature this very own artwork in the frame.

My 1-2-3 Cents Episode 125: Girl Fight, Super Show coming to CCW with Jason Wells

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 10, 2017

Cape Championship Wrestling has been entertaining wrestling fans in southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky for nearly a year. CCW will have a big presence at this year’s Cape Con event. On Friday, April 21 it’s ladies night as CCW teams up with Madman Pondo for Girl Fight. It’s the first ever Luna Vachon Memorial Tournament.

Then on Saturday, April 22 it’s the CCW Super Show. You’ll see all the stars of CCW including champion Brandon Barbwire, tag champs Farmer Billy Hills & Dell Tucker and Austin Lane. Plus guests scheduled to appear include Colt Cabana, Joey Ryan and Jeff Cobb. The company’s COO Jason Wells explains more in today’s podcast.

Stride Pro Wrestling is working on a big show in May. It includes a TLC match for the Stride Pro Wrestling championship as Heath Hatton defends against Roger Matheus. And former WWE Superstar (Brodus Clay) Tyrus will also be on hand.

It’s a great time for indy wrestling. Come out and support the men and women of the mat. Thanks!

Double Shot Weekend in Cape Girardeau, MO April 21-22 – Girl Fight, Davey Vega, Joey Ryan, Colt Cabana, Ace Hawkins

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 4, 2017

Recap from their last event from the website Talking Smith

By Jared Smith

Hey all!! Smitty back at you after one AWESOME weekend!!! Not only did we have a great birthday gathering with my (Jared) side of the family, but we were able to take in another AWESOME Cape Championship Wrestling card!! The AC Brase Arena Building was packed once again as the CCW faithful were out to support the crew and let me tell you, CCW did NOT disappoint us!! Take a look up there at the card and then stick around for some fun!

We did something different this time around. On our way to my parent’s house, Mrs. Smitty got the idea of doing a road trip, live broadcast! So I said…heck yeah!! We hadn’t gone live or recorded a video in quite some time, and its something we probably need to do more. I know, we’re still stuck in the 20th century with our blogs and what not, but hey, we love to write!! But, the live videos will become a part of everything. So here’s our live video recap!!

https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fjaredsmith83%2Fvideos%2F10101340980900801%2F&show_text=0&width=400

Enjoy that!! But I’ll sum things up in a bit quicker manner than the video. It was a longer one, but we had a lot to talk about and some cool folks to interact with while doing so! But anywho, here’s what’s going on!

For me, Ace Hawkins and Brandon “Espy” Espinosa stole the show right out of the gate. This is a rivalry that’s been going on for years. These guys have insane chemistry in the ring, whether they’re teaming or going to war against each other, so things are extremely fluid. Espy debuted a new look, similar to the Guerilla’s of Destiny but also akin to a Dia de Los Muertas skull as well. Very dark and sinister. In fact, Espy hit the aisle and stared directly at Ace and then hit the ring hard. We got such a great match from these two again and I was hoping that Espy would take the MWR Missouri Championship back home with him. I was emotionally drained from that one. So many near pinfall moments, so many hard hitting moments, just a GREAT opening match.

Up next was JD Wilk. Now, JD was supposed to take on Jason Vaughn, but if you kept up with the events this week, new GM Osby Tomlin decided to fire Jason Vaughn due to a variety of differences in the back. I’m not sure whether I believe that or not, but I do know that it ignited a fire in The Fury. However, with that being said, JD Wilk had an open invitation to anyone and it was answered by…PHOENIX!!! This kid, Phoenix, is so hard not to like. He’s all smiles and you can tell he loves to be in that ring. We thought that about JD, but, he seems to be getting a big head really quick. The match was great, though, and Phoenix really brought it to JD. Ultimately, JD was just too quick and powerful for Phoenix. But, after JDW got the win…JASON VAUGHN SHOWED UP!!! He came flying out from the back, defying the orders from GM Osby Tomlin, and delivered a MAJOR beating on JD in the ring. Osby came out with security to get Jason out of the ring and, surprisingly, he left without a ruckus. But, I believe the message has been sent to CCW management…Jason Vaughn wants his match.

We were treated to a variety of debuts on Saturday and one that I was very excited for was The Inkcredible Darius Lee, Tatt2, making his CCW debut. He’s an exciting, high flying, athletic wrestler from the Memphis area and his energy was something that hit the crowd hard! He was going up against another solid competitor, THE Cody Wilson. Cody is a no-nonsense guy that I still haven’t fully grasped yet, but I do know that he’s a strong style type who can take a good beating but still come back to dish it out. It was a contrast of styles, but it worked together very well as Cody is deceptively quick and has no issues taking things to the air if needed. However, it was apparent early on that the speed and quickness of Tatt2 would make it hard for Cody to hang in there. To his credit, he was able to keep pace for a while, but ultimately the speed wore him down. This match was capped off with a BEAUTIFUL 450 Splash from the top rope that got the crowd off their feet. A solid debut and I hope to see more of him.

Another debut was made in the following match, as the women of CCW took center stage! Coming up along with the Super Show next month, the women get a night all to themselves on Friday, April 21st, as Girl Fight brings the inaugural Luna Vachon Memorial Tournament, which will feature 8 of the best women around! On Saturday, we got to enjoy three of them, as Sweet Sarah Summers, Marni Gras and a debuting Nikki Lane, squared off in a triple threat match. Former TNA/Impact Star, Angelina Love, also made a CCW debut as she accompanied Marni Gras to the ring and stayed ringside throughout the match. This one started off featuring Marni Gras and Nikki Lane teaming up to take down Sarah Summers multiple times. However, this union was quickly tested as both women attempted pinfalls to win the match. This one went back and forth the whole match and it was one of those with a high number of near 3 count moments. In the end, though, Marni Gras took the win, but she’s got a big target on her back in CCW, as she has the other ladies gunning for her!

After intermission, we were treated to another debut, which was the monster Barackus! He’s a beast!! But his opponent, Kyle O’Reilly, is no stranger to taking down bigger guys! Kyle has this insane ability to attack people and never seems to slow down or let things affect him. However…BRACKUS IS A BEAST!! And he used his size and strength to keep Kyle immobilized throughout the match. That didn’t slow down Kyle, though, as he was able to use the quickness of his strikes to create distance from Barackus. Kyle focused his attacks on the legs of Barackus, in hopes of taking him out there to get him to the ground. Barackus, much to his credit, did not let that stop him from dishing out punishment at any opportunity, though. Kyle eventually did wear the big man down, even suplexing him down at one point, and wrapping things up with an armbar. Its easy to see why Kyle O’Reilly is a former ROH World Champion and rumored to be on his way to NXT. He’s a true professional in all areas and it was truly a treat to be able to see him in the CCW ring.

The next match was one that I was excited for, but at the same time, dreaded seeing at the same time. Hollis Giroux vs Austin Lane squared off in a number one contenders match. Both of these guys are fan favorites, probably two of the top in that department, and have cemented themselves within the CCW fans. The instant I saw Hollis square off against Davey Vega, I knew he had that “it” factor about him. Same as Austin and Ricochet, it was my first experience seeing Austin and he not only held his own in that ring last year, but he quickly had me watching the match, mouth wide open, saying THIS IS AWESOME, as it truly was. HOW CAN YOU PICK SIDES IN A MATCH LIKE THIS!? We tried not to. I cheered for both guys at every opportunity. It was, as I said in the video, on par with Hogan/Warrior at Wrestlemania 6. However, the way it ended, with both men rolled up, both shoulders on the mat, was satisfying in a disappointing way. If that makes sense. I was relieved that neither lost, upset that neither won, but hoped to see their friendship and ability to work together come out uncompromised. I hope that will remain. It was a match packed with so much emotion.

The tag title match was up next and, with Dell Tucker unavailable due to prior commitments, The Pinnacle opted for the use of the Freebird Rules, and brought in the Nephilim, D’Mone, to fill the spot next to Farmer Billy Hills. Their opponents were Syn and the man, the myth, THE LEGEND…BLASTER!!! After being ousted from The Pinnacle last month, Blaster returned with his tag partner once again being Syn, to get a crack at the tag titles. Farmer Billy Hills, in usual form, attempted to fight just about everyone in the audience. I’m pretty sure he was yelling at a baby at one point. Savage. You know that a match featuring The Pinnacle will be loaded with shenanigans, and it had plenty of that. Jeff O’Dell has a new bodyguard, the diminutive Marko, which added one more element of outside interference. Blaster and Syn fought them off well. We were able to see a lot more of Syn on Saturday than we did last month at Tag Team Warfare. Syn is VERY impressive in the ring. He’s athletic and quick, with a wide array of moves. I was glad to see him bringing it on this level. However, as hard as Blaster & Syn fought, they just couldn’t weather the Pinnacle storm, as Billy and D’Mone took the win. Afterward, they unleashed a furious beating upon Blaster in the middle of the ring until suddenly, Osby Tomlin appeared! He said that this was too much and that in April, Blaster would again be getting a tag title shot, but this time, his partner would be none other than JEFF COBB!!! WOW!!! Two beasts will set their sites on The Pinnacle!! For once, I think Billy Hills was speechless.

The final match featured the stalwart veteran, the Sexy one himself, Sexy Sarge, going up against CCW longtime champion, Brandon Barbwire. Sarge issued this challenge back in January after Caged Chaos. In the time following, Brandon has made sure to let everyone know that he thought Sarge was an old geezer. I think Saturday night reminded Brandon that Sarge still has a lot left in his tank. It seemed as if Sarge was trying to cave in Brandon’s chest with his chops. However, and I feel this is an area that is overlooked with Brandon, he is very resilient and able to weather a storm like that. I truly think that is one of the reason he’s been able to hold onto his title. Well, that and Jeff O’Dell. Maybe that alliance is on its way out. Brandon was able to wear down Sarge and take the win in this one. Although, I’m sure that we all agree that…BRANDON TAPPED!!! Jeff O’Dell saved his boy once again. After the match, Brandon was face to face with Hollis and Austin Lane as Osby Tomlin made his way out. Osby announced that, following the number one contender match earlier, Brandon would be facing Hollis Giroux at the Super Show. As well as Austin Lane!!! We got the triple threat. But then, the last big announcement of the night. Osby inserted a fourth into the equation, that being none other than….COLT CABANA!! COLT CA-BA-NA! COLT CA-BA-NA! The crowd erupted. In the meantime, Brandon was knocked on his back by Austin and Hollis, as those two celebrated before leaving. What a night!!!
