MWR’s Brian Kelley & SICW Promoter Herb Simmons Remember Ox Baker

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 20, 2014

 photo 000_zps773b049d.jpg

MWR Fan Relations Dubray Tallman was impressed with the one and only, Ox Baker.

From MWR Editor/Owner Brian Kelley

I woke up this morning before I headed to school to the sad news that the one and only Ox Baker had passed away. Prior to this year, Baker was a man that I had enjoyed in wrestling for having a great look and catchphrase. Then not so long ago, SICW promoter Herb Simmons called to let me know that he was the latest in the who’s who of the wrestling world greats that he was going to bring in for the fans to meet. I did some research and posted the highly entertaining episode of Baker on the legendary game show The Price is Right, in hopes that fans old and young would take the opportunity to meet the man.

A few days before the show, Baker was also a special guest on MissouriWrestlingRevival.com’s official podcastRingSyders“. During the broadcast with Ben Simon and Drew Abbenhaus, Ox Baker proved that he could still talk you in the building by hyping himself and his career in another great RingSyders interview.

During the night in East Carondelet, Illinois, Baker was happy to meet with the fans as they asked for autographs, photos or just a moment down memory lane. I have not always taken advantage of getting my photo with the wrestlers as I have been busy, but thankfully on this night (and possibly because of the RingSyders interview) I did ask for a photo not realizing that he would pass on not too long after. Baker was a gentleman all night and only added to my appreciation of the man.

Ox Baker, I would like to thank you for the memories in and out of the ring. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to your friends and family during this very sad moment.

 photo 0000_zpsf100cac3.jpg

Even at 80, Ox Baker was able to stand out. Here he is being interviewed in front of the SICW faithful by SICW promoter Herb Simmons.

From SICW Promoter Herb Simmons.

We lost another great legend in the wrestling business.  Not only did Ox Baker entertain us in the wrestling ring, but he starred in the box office hit, “Escape from New York“. He told the story when he was in with us how that came about. That part was scheduled for our other late friend, Bruiser Brody. Ox and Brody tried out for it, and Brody was given the part.  Ox told me when he got back home from the movie try out, he received a call telling him to come to St. Louis for the start of the movie, he hadn’t heard about the tragedy that happened to Brody, when the producer told him what happened, Ox was in shock, he couldn’t believe what he was being told, he told me he asked the producer, you mean Brody is gone and you want me back in St. Louis for the movie, and the producer told him, the show goes on. That always bothered Ox. He stated he always tells people that was Brody’s part and that Ox was just a fill in.

What a guy.

Brody was responsible for me meeting Ox. I sometimes get asked why SICW brings these legends in.  This is one of those reasons, these guys paved the way for the business, they work long and hard to entertain us, I feel the least I can do is show how much the fans appreciate what they have done for the business. So for those that are concerned about why SICW brings the legends in, worry no more. As long as they’re able and we are able to do so, we will continue to show our appreciation. Some day, the young wrestlers who are busting their butts will be legends, and hopefully there will be someone that will want to pay respect to them as we are doing.

Two of the greats of all time, Mr. Ox Baker and Bruiser Brody.

MO Inspector Moynahan Retires

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 20, 2014

 photo 01_zpsa65b18a3.jpg

Ed Moynahan took great pride in his job. Here he is seen with Dynamo Pro Wrestling promoters Jim and Crystal during his second to last job with pro wrestling. The following week he would finish up a great career at MMWA at the historic South Broadway Athletic Club.

By Ben Simon

Ed Moynahan was one of the longest-tenured inspectors for the Missouri Office of Athletics.  Moynahan retired on October 11, 2014, with his last event at the South Broadway Athletic Club.

Missouri is a state that regulates pro wrestling through its athletic commission.  Ed had been an inspector for the Office since 1994, but his experience in the fight game goes back to 1940.  That was the year, when at age 16, Moynahan first put on a pair of boxing gloves and participated in Golden Gloves amateur boxing.

His passion was boxing, but he was a very familiar face at St. Louis wrestling venues like the SBAC, Stratford Bar & Grill, Off Broadway, and others.  A St. Louisan for life, Moynahan holds a special place in the local wrestling scene.  Dynamo Pro Wrestling media coordinator Luke Roberts explained the connection at Ed’s penultimate event.

“I got my Missouri license through Ed, and that was a long time ago.  I know most of the boys here tonight, even the old timers, filed their papers through him way back in the day,” Roberts said backstage.

In November 2014, a new inspector took the helm at MMWA and Dynamo Pro cards.  There is still someone to make sure blood work and other precautions are on the up-and-up, but there won’t be another Ed Moynahan.  Enjoy Napa Valley.

WLW November Excitment in Missouri – Richmond, Green Ridge and Troy’s Harley Race Camp

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 18, 2014

 photo wlw2_zpsabcce37f.jpg

World League Wrestling, a professional wrestling company owned and operated by 8-Time NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Harley Race, has is celebrating its 15th year of being in business. They have recently relocated to Troy, MO – a suburb of St. Louis – to rejuvenate their fan base and to also expand it. Still keeping their traditional venues, they also look to expand where they host their wrestling events.

The next stop on the 2014 War of Wrestling tour is in Richmond, Missouri on November 1st, 2014! The event will be held at the Richmond Community Center. This area has been VERY good at bringing in great fans to World League Wrestling, but also serving the community at the same time! We have raised more than $2000 to help support local charities, families, and groups that are in need of some form of assistance. “For many years, fans have given their support for professional wrestling, World League Wrestling, and Harley Race”, says the president of WLW – Harley Race – “Professional Wrestling has been my life since I was 15 years old and it’s been very good to me. So now I want to give back and provide fans with the opportunity to see the future of professional wrestling at the same time. WLW is just that, the future of professional wrestling!”. This time, WLW will be raising funds for 2 separate groups – the Miss Ray County Pageant Scholarship as well as Team Stacie.

The main event that night will feature a very special 8-man tag-team match. This match-up will feature the top superstars of World League Wrestling pitting WLW Heavyweight Champion Ace Steel, Dave Delorean, Michael Magnuson, and Elvis Aliaga against the current Tag Team Champions – High Level Enterprise – and two unknown opponents that will be decided earlier on that evening. This match-up will be one to remember!

Another match that will be one to watch is for the WLW Ladies Championship as the best of 5 series will continue that evening. This match has former champion Stacey O’Brien against current champion – Miss Natural. Currently, the series is tied 1 to 1 so whomever wins on November 1st will be leading the series and will be one more win closer to declaring who is the best female wrestler in WLW!

Other wrestlers scheduled to appear are “The Ego” Dustin Bozworth, Superstar Steve Fender, Kyle Roberts, the masked Air-Raid, John E. Rock and more!

In the spirit of Halloween the night before, fans are encouraged to wear their costumes to the event! For those that do wear them to the event, you will receive $2 off tickets (only applicable if you purchase tickets the night of the event however.)

Tickets are available at Academy Bank in Walmart and the Richmond Collector’s Office. They are also available to purchase online at http://www.harleyrace.com. Advanced ticket prices are $10 for General Admission and $15 for Golden Circle tickets. If you purchase tickets the night of the event, ticket prices are $12 for General Admission and $17 for Golden Circle. Doors will open at 6pm and the event will start at 7pm.

2014 Harley Race Wrestling Camp

If you have had the dream of becoming successful in professional wrestling, then there is an opportunity that awaits you. An opportunity that provides the younger generation of wrestlers and also aspiring wrestlers the chance to get an in-depth look on how training is performed at a world-renowned wrestling academy.

The Harley Race Wrestling Academy is continuing the tradition of the week-long training camp this year, and with it being the 15 year mark, we are pulling out some big-time stops. In years past, WLW and the Academy here strive to give the students an opportunity like no other by giving them the chance to meet, connect, network, learn, and get hands on training from some of the best trainers in and around the world. In 2014, the camp will be nothing less than extraordinary.

With the recent move to Troy, MO (a suburb of St. Louis, MO), we look to host the biggest camp to date. We have had some attendance that will be hard to reach, however, we are confident that our stellar cast of trainers will be able to provide you, the student, with knowledge that you cannot get anywhere else.

Trainers for this year’s camp will include the following:
1. Dr. Tom Prichard – Trainer of many current and past WWE superstars such as Kurt Angle, Edge, Mark Henry, Curt Hawkins, The Miz, and many more. Former head trainer of OVW and FCW (WWE developmental territories).
2. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton – Legend in professional wrestling who had a remarkable career both in singles and tag-team competition. He was also a trainer at the WCW Power Plant as well as an agent for the company.
3. Taiji Ishimori – Representing Pro-Wrestling NOAH, this lightening quick wrestler will be attending the 2014 Camp to provide his knowledge to the participants of the camp. Last year, he attended the camp and received many rave reviews. This year, he comes to us and is looking forward to training with us.
4. Gedo – Currently one of the wrestlers from New Japan Pro-Wrestling this will be the first time in many years that the pro-wrestler known as Gedo has been to the United States. His career has him recognized as the “Dusty Rhodes of Japan”. His personality and charisma helped him earn this moniker.

There still could be another name added to the already-stacked list of trainers. If anymore are announced, you can find them listed on our website at http://www.harleyrace.com/2014Camp.html. Also available on the website is a form that you can either fill out online or print out and mail in.

Also, bear in mind that this camp isn’t just for people with experience. It is also for people with little to no training, referees, and more!

Cost for this camp will be $500.00 and is only for the camp participation. Lodging, travel, and other fees are not included in this price. We have arranged for hotel discounts as well as a gym discount for the week.

We suggest that if you know someone that would also like to participate, then try and get them to come with you. This way, your travel expenses will be cut in half. Depending on the number of people, we will have 3 rings set up. This way, more people will get the opportunity to stay active throughout the entire day. The training schedule is up on our website as well as other necessary information.

If you have any other questions at all, please feel free to give us a call at 573-392-4100 or email camp@harleyrace.com.
