Stacey O’Brien presented with the 2008 MWR Female Wrestler of the Year Award

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 4, 2009

Missouri Wrestling Revival took great pride in the 2008 MWR Awards. The voting was tough for each category and there were many great people that helped with making MWR one of the most looked at sites in the Midwest in its very first year.

Missouri Wrestling Revival hopes is to present the winners of the 2008 awards with a special plaque that honors them for this great achievement. On February 14th, we were honored to be guest of MMWA-SICW so we could present Stacey O’Brien with the 2008 MWR Female Wrestler of the Year.

MMWA-SICW announcer Tim Miller hosted the presentation in the center of the ring prior to the evening’s matches. You could tell that O’Brien took great pride in taunting the packed crowd when she hoisted the Plaque in the air. They responded in boos but the Irish bad girl in the Midwest was all smiles.

All American Pro Wrestling Champion Shane Rich vs. Jeremy Wyatt March 14th

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 3, 2009

By Brian “Flair” Kelley

All American Pro Wrestling returns on March 14 in West Frankfort, IL The AAPW Champion Shane Rich has just survived a war with “Homicidal” Steven Davis in 2008, then in January he not only retained the title against the popular Edmund “Livewire” McGuire but the MWR awards committee honored it as the January match of the month.

AAPW has delivered a Midwest dream match as Shane Rich will have his hands full when he takes on the MWR Wrestler of the Year in 2008, Jeremy “The Rebel” Wyatt. Wyatt will look to hit Shane Rich with the devastating move they call in Iowa the “Kansas Tumbleweed”; they may as well call the “Title Changer” because if he hits Rich with it then we will have a new AAPW Champion. Rich and Wyatt is a main event you do not want to miss.

You will also get to see one of the most exciting tag teams in the Midwest the AAPW Tag Team Champions The LONRS (Mark Sterling and Darrien Sanders) defend their belts against the tag team the fans voted on in the Fan Choice voting last fall, Vinyl and Vega. Vinyl and Vega had been on a roll in 2008 before they took a hiatus from the sport. They return in the biggest match that the two have ever been in. How will the ring rust affect the St Louis duo with an attitude? This will be exciting!!

After unmasking Crimson Shock on January 24th, Ty Blade will be pitted in a match with the mysterious masked man. If Crimson Shock loses, HE MUST REMOVE THE MASK AND REVEAL HIS IDENTITY!

Carnage was fired from Brooklyn Bobby’s stable and “Homicidal” Steven Davis publicly humiliated him at the last event. Carnage attacked Davis during a lumberjack match and beat Davis throughout New Beginnings Assembly. Now, Carnage not only gets Davis one on one in a match but has the opportunity to earn his first victory in almost 2 YEARS.

Also scheduled:

Mike Masters
Ax Stevens
Curly
Payday Patterson
Mike Sydal
Tony Stetson
Tickets are $10 Adult $6 children 12 and under
Tickets available online at allamericanprowrestling.com or at the door
Bell time 7pm
New Beginnings Assembly, 1011 E. 6th st., in West Frankfort, IL.

LWA Feb. 21 Arena Report

Posted by reimaginejournalism on March 2, 2009

By Kari Williams

LWA put on their best show of the year Feb. 21 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in House Springs, MO with 130 in attendance. From the opening match to the main event, there was not a single match that left fans disappointed.

The much anticipated and promoted six-man tag match for the LWA Tag Team Titles kicked off the night, as Evan Gelistico, Pierre Abernathy and Davey Vega tried to take down K.C. Karrington, Steven Kennedy and Gary the Barnowl. Gary and Abernathy started the match up and fought relentlessly.

However, Abernathy began to overpower Gary, giving the Submission Squad the early advantage. The moment that Gary tagged Kennedy, everything changed. Kennedy cleared the house and delivered the patented “Go That Way!” kick to Gelistico with the help of Karrington. It was not long until Abernathy was back in the ring and taking control, allowing Vega and Gelistico to double and triple team their opponents. Halfway through the bout, Tiffani LaFane cornered a confused Gary and convinced him to walk with her backstage, giving the Squad an extra advantage. Unfortunately  , LaFane’s cunning work was not up to par, becaue the Egos had more fire after Gary and LaFane flew the coop and dominated in the three on two situation to retain the tag titles.

“Future” Donovan Ruddick and XXX Jordan Lacey came to the ring next, talking about their match against LWA Heavweight Champion Jeremy Wyatt and the LWA Vice President Jewels. They proclaimed that they would rid LWA of Jewels and Wyatt, which prompted the VP to make her way to ringside.

She confessed that she cannot compete in the match and offered Ruddick a title shot against Wyatt as a settlement. Jewels also stated that “Thee” Brandon Espinosa—who came to prove the claim—would be Wyatt’s replacement in the match. Commissioner Adam Raw felt that Lacey needed a substitute as well and announced that Mark Sterling would do the honors.

After that debacle, Shorty Biggs and Dingo wrestled an impressive bout—one of Biggs’ best to date. Biggs appeared more focused on the task at hand than in previous months, and it showed, seeing as he made Dingo scratch and claw for a victory.

Filled with technical wrestling and pure athleticism, these men went toe-to-toe, with each man only mere milliseconds away from securing a win. In the end, with both men fighting with everything, Dingo defeated Biggs, who offered his hand to Dingo as a sign of respect.

Super Electro took on Shamus O’ Flannery in an electrifying, fast-paced bout. Complete with an electrical shock to O’ Flannery and multiple high-risk maneuvers on O’ Flannery’s part, it was hard to find anyone who did not enjoy this match.

Although not lengthy, O’ Flannery proved his worth when he secured his first victory since returning to LWA over Electro after a frog splash.

The ever-flamboyant Mike Sydal was in action next against “The Technical Messiah” Nick Tyson, in what one best describe as a personality conflict. When Sydal came to the ring, he declared that he is tight, tan and toned. Not one to sit around and wait for a fight, Tyson took it to Sydal, who put up an extroardinary fight in which each man scored multiple near falls. Sydal attempted to gain a pyschological advantage, but to no avail.

Tyson’s experience and tenacity in the ring far outweighed Sydal’s mind games. Sydal’s antics only seemed to anger The Technical Messiah, but Sydal did not go down willingly and even used submission holds against Tyson.

In the end, the flamboyant interim member of B.A.B.E.WATCH succumbed to pain and tapped out to the Gateway City Stretch.

After the match, Abernathy emerged to attack Tyson, which was followed by the entire Submission Squad and Gary.

Dingo made the save for Tyson with the aid of a steel chair, chasing the Squad away. Tyson and Dingo then revealed an alliance through a handshake.

Once the intermission ended, LWA President Luke Roberts and Raw came out to celebrate Mardi Gras and throw beads to the fans. Roberts then brought up the former LWA wrestler he wanted to bring back, and Raw revealed that he himself was the only wrestler who would stand up for the fans and bleed LWA. Jewels then brought up the fact that Raw turned his back on LWA one year ago, stated that Raw would have to work his way up and she will make it as difficult as possible.

“Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons took on the masked newcomer Dash Rando. Unsure of Rando, Aarons looked reluctant to begin.

Rando quickly got the fans on his side, while the fans got to Aarons with their catcalls and accusations. Despite being new to LWA, Rando put up an impressive fight against Aarons, but Aarons held his own and did his best to overpower Rando.

Ultimately, Rando’s abstract arsenal proved too much for the “Irresistably Flawless” one, and Rando racked up his first victory with the company.

Aarons’ counter-part, Espinosa, was in action next, teaming with Jewells against Lacey and Sterling. In, essentially, a two-on-one bout, Espinosa started off against Sterling and did his best to hold his own.

Being unable to tag his partner, who refused, severely hindered his chances of winning for the team, especially when Lacey and Sterling began making frequent tags.

At one point, when Espinosa was down, Lacey nearly got his hands on Jewels, but, out of nowhere, Sterling lunged at his partner, and prevented him from doing so.

Jewels waited on the outside and Espinosa walked away as Dorian Victor came to attack Lacey, ending the bout in a no-contest.

The main event, with Ruddick challenging Wyatt for the Heavweight Title, proved how much these two competitors want that belt. They held nothing back, and Wyatt began attacking Ruddick before the bell even rang, trying to gain the unfair advantage.

Wyatt’s underhanded tactics did nothing to deter the 6’9” monster, who terrorized Wyatt inside and outside the ring. At one point, Ruddick had Wyatt in the air and planned to slam him into a table located next to the entrance ramp, but Wyatt countered and sent Ruddick flying.

After regaining his composure and focus, Ruddick went for, and connected with, his impressive powerbomb that sent Wyatt clear across the ring.

Before Ruddick had a chance to cover Wyatt for the three count, Sterling and Victor interfered, allowing Wyatt to steal the win with a roll up.

Sterling disclosed that after his match against Wyatt back in June that he knew they had to team up. He went on to say that Wyatt is the champion and the brains, and he is the muscle in the group. Then he made it known that Victor was never poor, that it was just a cover up, and Jewells was behind all of it.

To find out how this feud develops, do not miss the second LWA Double Shot on March 6 and 7. The first night is in Granite City, IL and the second in O’ Fallon, IL. For more information go to lwawrestling.com.

$1.00 off with Military ID!

$1.00 off with Military ID!

This flyer greeted me in my e-mail inbox a few short days ago with a note from my friend and MWR wrestler/promoter relations guru, Brian Kelley.  It quickly took me back to when I first started Missouri Wrestling Revival as a tool to get more involved in professional wrestling and give back to those who have entertained me for as long as I could remember.  My attitude for giving back doesn’t just extend to wrestling, though.  It extends to my country.

I am not the only one with this mindset.  Thousands of men and women in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines sacrifice their time, bodies, and sometimes their very lives in service to the greatest country on the face of the planet.  Families are fractured with some left in unrecoverable condition.  Men and women who do make it home find that the world has went on without them, and find difficulty in adjusting to everyday life.

High Voltage Wrestling is bringing that story back into focus by putting together a very special “Support the Troops” match in Granite City, IL on March 14, 2009.  Two of my personal favorites square off in a match all about pride and sacrifice when “Superstar” Steve Fender goes one-on-one with “King of 450” Steve Anthony.

Come out and watch this match with me as I return from Iraq, but remember the sacrifices that make our country great.  If you see a soldier’s family struggling, please lend a hand to help out!

MMWA-SICW February 14 recap

Posted by reimaginejournalism on February 27, 2009

Editors Note: MWR would like to thank MMWA-SICW for allowing us to be ringside to take pictures for this wonderful event. We got to see one of the most entertaining matches this year between Dave Vaughn and AJ Williams for the Junior Heavyweight Championship that highlighted a fun filled evening of matches.

A special thank you goes out to MMWA-SICW photographer Michael Van Hoogstraat for his advice and hospitality that evening. Michael has been willing to allow MWR to use his photographs in the future to allow fans to see what they may have missed or relive the excitement. To check out more of Michael Van Hoogstraat work please go to Vans Digital Photo Service. Don’t hesitate to contact Michael to phoograph your next wrestling event.

Now without further ado please take time to check out the great recap by Kari Williams.

By Kari Williams

Relentless attacks and fire-hot ferocity personified the Valentine’s Day MMWA-SICW show at South Broadway Athletic Club. From the opening match to the main event, tempers flared and emotions raged with blazing desire—all for the chance to prove their own worth as a competitor or to show the naysayers that they truly do have what it takes to succeed as a champion. Themed as a ‘luck of the draw’ night, each match was determined at the beginning of the show.

Bobby D attempted to establish his dominance in the company when he fought “Wild Child” Billy Diamond in the main event. D’s reluctance to start the match did not sit well with either Diamond or the fans. Neither man gained a clear advantage throughout the bout, but D did everything in his power to do so, including using illegal maneuvers. At one point when D seemed to be on the verge of dominating, he let his ego get the best of him and covered Diamond for the pin with only one foot resting on Diamond’s chest, allowing the wounded man to easily escape the pin. Those tactics must have gotten into Diamond’s head because he never fully regained his composure. D scored a spoiled victory after distracting the ref, hitting Diamond with a low blow and surprising Diamond with a roll-up while holding the tights.

Jeremy Lightfoot, Diamond’s tag team partner, took to the ring prior, against one of MMWA-SICW’s newer competitors, Blade. Both men failed to gain the advantage early on, but minutes into the match, Blade connected with a suplex and began to take over. Blade then targeted Lightfoot’s knee and ankle, possibly in an attempt to eliminate the Lightfoot Driver from his opponent’s arsenal. Slowly, but surely, Lightfoot regained his compsure, and did not allow Blade to get the upper hand again—despite multiple attempts. The former champion decided Blade’s fate with a Lightfoot Driver and pin. After the match, the two men showed no hard feelings and shook hands as a symbol of respect.

The Connecton sent its prodigy, Dave Vaughn, out to ruin Junior Heavyweight Champion A.J. Williams’ day as the two battled for Williams’ title. In the best match of the night, the two young men fought with all their might for the gold.

Vaughn controlled the match from the get-go and solidified his dominance after a brutal shoulder tackle that sent Williams down to the mat. Not one to be deterred, Williams attempted to gain momentum with a drop kick and stinger splash, among other things, but nothing could stop Vaughn’s determination.

As the match progressed, Williams did get in some formidable offense, as he flew over the top rope to a stunned Vaughn on the outside, which he followed up with running the number one contender head first into the ring post. Nothing Williams did slowed Vaughn down. With Travis Cook acting as a cheerleader at ringside, Vaughn had all the support he needed. Vaughn proved to be too much on this exchange as he walked away with the Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Shaft’s issues with The Connection continued on this night, as he faced Phil E. Blunt. Shaft seemed hellbent on destroying Blunt and had the means with which to do so.

He relentlessly attacked Blunt’s ankle in preparation for the ankle lock. Then, Cook, sensing defeat, interjected himself in the matchup, causing Shaft to chase him around ringside. Cook’s neck injury notwithstanding, he ran fairly fast without complaint. Seeing that he could not conquer Shaft, Blunt finished the match by forcing a disqualification victory as he stood on the outside next to Cook while the referee counted to 10. After the verdict was announced, Blunt questioned Shaft on whether or not he would join The Connection—an option which they presented to Shaft last month—and Shaft said nothing.

Heavyweight Champion Gary Jackson lets Lumberjack Gabe know where he stands. – Photo Credit Dubray Tallman

Heavyweight Champion “Night Train” Gary Jackson put his title on the line against the Battle Royal Champion Lumberjack Gabe. Jackson announced that he would leave their friendship up in the dressing room, and the bout got underway. Both competitors had the fans cheering for them, but it apeared as though Jackson had more fans on his side. Jackson fought with all his might to deter Gabe. Jackson connected with two elbow drops, but only received a two count for his actions. He then trapped Gabe in a submission hold, but Lumberjack Abe, who had been at ringside, distracted the ref, causing Gabe to try and steal the win with a roll-up. However, Gabe was disqualified for Abe’s interference and Jackson walked away with the belt. He then got on the mic and stated that he does not back down from anyone in any federation.

Womens Champion Alexis Lightfoot works over Stacey O’Brien’s leg-Photo Credit Dubray Tallman

The first title match of the evening took place previously, when Stacey O’ Brien challenged Alexis Lightfoot for the Women’s title. Not willing to let her hard-earned title just slip away, Alexis fought with all of her might.

south4

From the get go, O’ Brien used underhanded tactics in an attempt to sway the advantage. On a couple of exchanges, O’ Brien’s plan worked, and she could have won the match and regained the belt, but Alexis had the wherewithall to grab the bottom rope and break up the pin attempt. Just when it looked like Alexis would reign supreme yet again, O’ Brien trapped the champion in an excruciatingly painful double-leg Boston crab. Just moments before Alexis was sure to tap out, Destiny Diamond came running out of the crowd, broke up the hold and attacked O’ Brien. Alexis retained the belt due to Diamond’s interference, but O’ Brien emerged victorious.

Big Texan slams Saladin to the mat- Photo Credit Dubray Tallman

Big Texan and Saladin put on a show in the second match of the night. Saladin had a difficult time overpowering his larger opponent, which caused Texan to dominate the bulk of the bout. However, at the five minute mark, Saladin delivered a swift kick to Texan’s head, sending him flying out of the ring. Without the support of the fans on his side, Saladin could not get enough momentum going to keep Texan on the ropes. Texan caught Saladin off guard, slammed him hard to the mat and got the three count.

Lumberjack Abe chops Waco and gets a big win to start the night- Photo Credit Dubray Tallman

Waco took on Lumberjack Abe in the opening match in what can only be described as a brawl. They came to blows immediately, especially with Lumberjack Gabe’s pending interference on the outside. After the five-minute mark, Waco began to gain control and connected with a flying drop kick, followed by 10 consecutive punches. However, Abe began to sense victory slipping from his grasp, and he quickly pulled out a win.
