Margaritas! Empanadas! Lucha libre! A new State Champion! It’s Cinco de Mayo on Cherokee Street in St. Louis, featuring Dynamo Pro Wrestling!
And Mike Outlaw was set to defend his State championship against Dynamo Pro rival “Lights Out” Adrian Surge at this outdoor festival on May 7, 2022.
When referee Jay King was accidentally knocked off his feet and dazed, Surge grabbed the blue-plated belt and cracked Outlaw over the head. King regained his faculties and counted the three.
The crowd was shocked! Even casual observers knew this was a big deal.

Outlaw immediately challenged Surge to a rematch later in the day. With a new burst of confidence, Surge accepted.
Two hours later, Outlaw finished off Surge after 15:06 with his signature diving elbow drop to regain the title, as the fully conscious referee HD Daniels made it official.
It’s unclear whether Surge holds the record for shortest single Missouri title reign ever. Shane Somers was stripped of his title the same night (by the late Missouri Office Inspector Karl Lauer) after winning it in 2003.
Surge has proven he is crafty enough to beat the champion. Surge is hungry, and he will probably continue to gun for the “General of the Bandana Brigade.”
The new Official Missouri Rankings list, good through June, has been calculated and published. Head over to the MO Rankings page for the latest publication. To qualify for the Top 10, a wrestler must have the highest ratings with consistent activity (RD ≤ 175). Rankings are published every two months.

MOVEMENTS & EXPLANATIONS
The hottest new training facility in Saint Louis shows they may be the toughest, as Team Ambition’s #2Davey Richards and #4Frodo The Ghost debut in the list alongside #6Camaro Jackson and #7Moses. It is unclear whether CMike Outlaw has explicitly left the camp since turning on Richards at The Pageant on April 24.
A reminder about the defense adjustment…
From 2015 until last fall, the Missouri title had been on the line in every singles bout that the champion wrestled in the State. After analysis of title changes from 2015-19 (specifically upsets), Brian Kelley and Ben Simon have determined to give the MWR champ a break and increase the value of the rankings system.
Going forward, the title will always be on the line when the Missouri champion wrestles a current Top 10 contender. The contender has earned it; no ifs, ands, or buts.
For all other singles matches, it is at the champion’s discretion whether the crown is on the line. While the opponent has not necessarily earned the right to wrestle for and win the MWR belt, our champion may use it to even stakes in challenges, double title matches, etc.
On May 14, 15 men will be in the ring, and only 1 will be left standing. The winner of this match will receive a shot at the WLW Heavyweight Championship against Moses “The Deliverer”.
