PWP Year of the Phoenix 10 Featuring Hardcore Bob Holly vs. Showtime Bradley Charles

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 10, 2015

2015 is just the beginning of what will be the biggest year in the history of PWP! So many things in store for our wonderful fans to help us celebrate 10 years of the best professional wrestling in the Midwest! Now let’s take a look at what’s on tap for Year of the Phoenix 10!

 photo 10906069_867032236672852_729682752911882558_n_zpsee2ccdf1.jpg

Main Event: Street Fight for the PWP Heavyweight Championship
Darren “Thunder” Russell Vs. Branden Juarez

Branden Juarez and Darren “Thunder” Russell have a one of the most complex histories throughout the entire lifespan of PWP. Once friends, now bitter enemies, the hatred boiled over last month when Juarez brutally attacked Russell with a Singapore cane, leaving the champion battered and bruised for weeks to come. But Russell stood up with great determination, and told Juarez that it ends once and for all on January 17th in a Street Fight! Juarez agreed, and these two rivals will meet in the most dangerous spectacle at Year of the Phoenix 10! Juarez won his first PWP Heavyweight championship at last year’s Year of the Phoenix event, can he repeat, or will Thunder channel the hearts and minds of the fans that have his back to the end, and continue to find that inner strength to succeed at all costs? Be there January 17th!

Special Challenge Match:
Hardcore Holly Vs. “Showtime” Bradley Charles

When Bradley Charles heard the announcement that former WWE Superstar Hardcore Holly was coming to PWP, he almost immediately laid out a challenge to the ring veteran. Ever since, Showtime has been badmouthing Holly left and right, and even used Holly’s signature maneuver, the Alabama Slam, to win his match in December! Now, SBC has to prove he can back his words up. If he can’t, Holly will prove to everyone in attendance why he was a mainstay for well over a decade in the most successful professional wrestling company of all time!

Falls Count Anywhere Match:
Hype Gotti Vs. Abu Colossus

2014 was a great year for the “PWP Legends” team of Abu Colossus & Hype Gotti, defending their PWP Tag Team Championship against any and all comers, and having multiple Match of the Year candidates with the team who would eventually take the titles from them, Jeremy Wyatt & Mark Sterling. After an attack by them which led to a broken foot for Abu, Hype quickly found a new partner to take on Wyatt & Sterling. This didn’t sit well with Abu, who came back with a vengeance, attacking Hype much to the shock of the PWP faithful. Now these two men meet in the ring one on one for the first time since 2006, and the action will be wild, as pinfalls count anywhere in the building! You aren’t going to want to miss this one on January 17th!

Grudge Match Rematch:
“The Passion” Zac James Vs. “Omaha Chainsaw” Stephen King

Stephen King returned to PWP in October, attacking people left and right for reasons still unknown. One of those people was Zac James. The Passion has a new found determination this year, and he refused to let King walk all over him and the others King attacked. They finally went head to head in December, and James was able to pin King with a surprise roll up! Unfortunately this wasn’t enough to stop the Omaha Chainsaw, as we saw in exclusive footage on the PWP Insider, King attacked James as he was exiting the building after that match, laying in a vicious beating and choking him nearly to death! Now, the rematch happens at Year of the Phoenix 10! Will The Passion prevail once again, or will the Chainsaw try to prove Zac’s win was a fluke and continue the path of dominance he has already begun? Be there!

Open Challenge for the PWP Tag Team Championship:
Jeremy Wyatt & Mark Sterling Vs. Any Tag Team in the Midwest

In March of 2014 Hype Gotti & Abu Colossus laid out a challenge to any Tag Team in the Midwest to show up and challenge for their championship. Jeremy Wyatt & Mark Sterling answered that challenge, and after a series of amazing matches, became the current reigning and defending PWP Tag Team Champions. There was much speculation about their means to and end however, and sure enough the dastardly side came out as Wyatt & Sterling have been cheating their way to victory ever since June of last year! Now, Wyatt & Sterling lay out a challenge very similar to the one the former champs did. Who will answer the challenge? And will Wyatt & Sterling continue on as champs or will we see new PWP Tag Team Champions? Despite their nefarious methods, Wyatt & Sterling are always involved in fantastic matches. Don’t miss this one!

Also appearing: “Babyface” Tony Cortez, Derek Cornell, “Simply Ravishing” Ryan Slade, “The Greece Pit” L-Ray, Joey Daniels & “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece, Dalton Lee Roth, “The Karaoke King” Purple, and more!

2014 MWR MIDWEST TOUR

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 7, 2015

Missouri Wrestling Revival Logo

When MWR started in 2008 thanks to the talents of Michael Strider, Steve Fender, Trevor Murdoch and others who showcased that wrestling was alive and well in the area, I believed that it was crucial to be seen at shows to support wrestling by meeting fans, and working with the top promoters, and wrestlers other than sitting in front of a computer talking about something that we knew nothing about. Our main goal was to give the wrestling talents in the Midwest some positive exposure.

With that in mind, for those that know me close enough understand that I have a mild case of OCD, and when I get involved in something I go all out. I was inspired from the likes of Mark Sterling and later Brandon Espinosa, two men that wrestled every weekend sacrificing their bodies in the ring, doing whatever it took to get noticed by giving a 100 percent in sold out shows or in front of 20 people. Both Sterling and Espinosa and countless others as well, did what they could do to become better wrestlers for the opportunity to become a star in the business, so there is no doubt that it was worth every moment covering these men and ladies on their journey.

I have always loved wrestlers that kept their match listings for their career as it made it easier to come up with story lines and feuds for articles. Also, as time goes by memories come and go, so why not have a quick reminder to remember where you were throughout the year.  I thought to myself, why not keep a list of the matches that we have covered in the four state area? In the past last yearbook, I did that and this year I decided that with each week I kept track of not only the shows, but the amount of miles and time we were on the road.

How many more miles MWR has left in the tank is anyone’s guess, but I would like to thank everyone that have been sincere in their efforts to support us along the way.

Total estimated miles driven to shows in 2014: 16,256.73
Total estimated hours in the car in 2014: 11 days 6 hours & 46 minutes

Below is the list on what wrestler Brian Kelley photographed the most matches  in 2014.

Brandon Espinosa 27
Jake Dirden /Ricky Cruz (tie) 20
Gary Jackson 17
Jake Parnell 16
Jeremy Wyatt 14

Top 2 Tag Teams photographed in 2014

The Hooligans 11
The Black Hand Warriors 10

A special thank you goes out to Andrew Abbenhaus, Nick Ridenour, Gary Weiss and TNT Keny G
for allowing us to be a guest in their home for a few double shots in 2014.
