By Cody Bozarth

Before the attitude age, before the anti-hero, professional wrestling was dominated by white-hat brawlers and masked heels from parts unknown.

In that era, Jacksonville’s Roger Deem came of age. He sat with his grandmother on Sunday mornings, watching muted matches while listening to the church broadcast on the radio. He took his first photos using his father’s camera during a trip to an event in St. Louis. As expected, the photos weren’t very good.

He stuck with it, and it was during a spot match in Jacksonville that he captured shots he could sell. Soon, he launched into a career freelancing ringside photos for major wrestling publications.

During that time, he got to know many prominent figures in the prestigious St. Louis Wrestling Club.

Heath Hatton wins the first ever Pro Wrestling Collision championship

Posted by flairwhoooooo on January 27, 2013

Submitted by PWC Staff

History was made on Jan. 19, as Pro Wrestling Collision debuted in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 200 fans.

The show started off hot, as owner Chris Hagstrom announced to the audience – as well as the competitors in the Collision Cup tournament – that Edmund “Livewire” McGuire had informed him that he would be unable to fulfill his commitments as Heavyweight Champion and wished to vacate the title.

Hagstrom then announced that the winner of the Collision Cup would be crowned the new Pro Wrestling Collision Heavyweight Champion.

Here are quick results from the show. The first episode of COLLISION is slated to air on our YouTube channel in early February.

Joey O’Riley defeated Matt Cage in an opening round tournament match. These two gave each other all they had, but in the end, O’Riley emerged the victor. Immediately afterward, though, he fell victim to an assault from Christian Rose.

Christian Rose defeated Kyle Sykes in an opening round tournament match. The young Sykes made the save for O’Riley, but he was quickly cut down by Rose. Sykes tried his hardest, but the more experienced Rose proved to be too much for the young rookie to handle.

Alex Castle defeated Ace Hawkins in an opening round tournament match. This quickly became a numbers game. While Hawkins’ tag team partner Brandon Espinosa was with him at ringside, he couldn’t offset the presence of Angelus Layne in Castle’s corner. Castle pulled out the victory (much to the chagrin of Creative Director Adam Testa) with a little help from his lady.

Heath Hatton defeated Brandon Espinosa in an opening round tournament match. These two friends had a spirited competition. At least until Castle made his presence felt again, costing Espinosa the match, unbeknownst to Hatton. Espinosa was none too pleased with this result.

Angelus Layne defeated Twinke Starr. Layne set out to prove she was above her opponent, and she certainly sent a message. Starr put up the best fight she could, but Layne targeted her head and then put her away with a deadly maneuver, earning a decisive victory by knockout.

Gaylord Stevens brought his critically acclaimed “Old School” to a live studio audience. His guest and client, [Ax Allwardt](/node/1271], condemned the 1970s look he said management promised him would lead to success and unveiled a new wardrobe. No more spoilers here.

Christian Rose defeated Joey O’Riley in a semi-final tournament match. O’Riley proved resilient as he battled Rose, but at the end of the match, the Team Overkill representative pinned the reigning No Limits Champion, earning himself a spot in the finals and a possible future shot at O’Riley’s championship.

Heath Hatton defeated Alex Castle in a semi-final tournament match. Hatton entered the match with a weakened shoulder, and Castle exploited the injury. But Hatton fought back with the support of his fans and overcame the odds. When Angelus Layne attempted to interfere on Castle’s behalf, some friends of Hatton, who happened to have issues with Castle and Layne of their own, lent a helping hand.

Zakk Sawyer defeated “Farmer” Billy Hills and Justice in a triple threat match. Hills appeared to have this match won, after taking Justice off his feet, but Sawyer swept in and stole the win, earning his first victory. After the match, Hills was none too happy with the result.

Bull Bronson defeated El Matadoro. The debuting El Matadoro seemed a bit surprised when Bronson entered the ring. This match didn’t last long, as Bronson made short work of the young Spaniard. The real story happened after the match, though, as Bronson said he’s not being given real competition.

Heath Hatton defeated Christian Rose to become the Heavyweight Champion. Hatton’s dream finally came true, as he earned a major singles championship for the first time. Rose put up a tough fight, and the presence of Matt Cage and Zakk Sawyer almost became a factor, but Joey O’Riley helped Owner Chris Hagstrom ensure this fight would have a fair ending.
