pwe jUNE 20TH

The next PWE event, originally scheduled to be held in Springfield, IL, on June 20th has been moved to LINCOLN, IL.

It will NOW be held at the VFW HALL located at 915 Fifth St. in Lincoln, with a start time of 3:00 PM.

The VFW on Old Jacksonville Rd was unfortunately double booked for June 20, leaving us with no alternative.

Even with a 3:00 PM start, using the Springfield venue would have prevented PWE from being able to deliver a full show due to the time restraints, (not to mention setup/teardown of ring), and we do sincerely apologize for any inconveniences.

Ring of Honor World Champion Jerry Lynn is a hit in Kansas.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 1, 2009

Lynn and Gaberlia

Ring of Honor World Champion Jerry Lynn and Gaberil Anthony Price

Ring of Honor World Champion Jerry Lynn has had many victories throughout his career. This past Saturday he was able to achieve another one at NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling against one of the Midwest finest in Mark Sterling. Lynn can boast victories that many wrestlers can only dream of, World Championships came when he defeated Nigel McGuinness for the ROH Championship or winning the ECW Championship October 1, 2000.

His legacy in this writers eyes will not be the final hand of the referee coming down for the 3 count in any of his matches or one of the many moves that he is able to pull out of nowhere to excite the crowd and put his opponent in deep trouble. No, it was watching how Jerry Lynn smiled from the time I walked in the building from the time his match was through. Sitting at the merchandise table Lynn signed autographs and took pictures with anyone and everyone. Every time Lynn smiled while he thanked them for coming to the show.

I spoke to many fans during the evening, fans young and old were thrilled with the action in the ring and common theme was with everyone was how great it was to meet Jerry Lynn. “ What a great guy he is” was just one comment while another inspiring wrestler told me “ Jerry Lynn is one of the reasons I am wanting to be in the ring.

My girlfriend Dubray was taking pictures for the MWR site when a 6 year old boy named Gaberil Anthony Price asked to have his picture taken with her because he thought she was a Diva or one of the wrestlers. She graciously let him know that she was just with MWR but kindly took her picture with him. Jerry Lynn himself took the time to go up to have his picture taken with Gaberil who was confined in a wheelchair. During the show his parents sat in the front row along with Gaberil and cheered the good guys and yes they booed the wrestlers who deserved it. During intermission they showed us the picture they had taken with their camera of Gaberil and Jerry Lynn. When I got the picture sent to me via an e-mail they said that “He had a great time meeting all the wrestlers especially Jerry Lynn.”

Once again wrestling proved to me that the bond between their fans and the wrestlers themselves is incomparable to any other sports. Jerry Lynn may be a World Champion wrestler today but when those days are gone, Lynn will be remembered by this writer and the fans of NWA Dynamo Gym as a wrestler that cared for the fans and because of that he will be not forgotten.

I leave with you pictures from Angie Vo at the NWA Dynamo Show.

HVW ‘Peace and Blood’ May 9 arena report

Posted by reimaginejournalism on May 31, 2009

By Kari Williams

In Granite City, IL at the River’s Edge Complex, High Voltage Wrestling (HVW) put on nine matches for the 115 fans in attendance. From debuts to title defenses to a challenge from Absolute Wrestling Radio, this show was packed from top to bottom.

Alexander Rudloph made his impressive debut against Max Archer. Barely giving Archer a chance to breathe, Rudolph pummeled and absolutely punished his much smaller opponent. The brutality elicited from the newcomer surpassed that of Archer, who took a beating both inside and outside the ring. Rudolph easily pinned Archer for the victory.

TNT Keny G then came to ringside to introduce another new member of the HVW roster, his daughter, Santana. Before Keny could so much as state his daughter’s name, “Thee” Brandon Espinosa and “Irresistably Flawless” Brandon Aarons, B.A.B.E.WATCH, appeared to stir up some trouble. Aarons complimented Santana and made suggestive comments while advancing toward her as Keny attempted to block Aarons.

Espinosa then hit Keny from the side and the two began attacking Keny until Juice Robinson made the save. As B.A.B.E.WATCH returned to the locker room, Keny announced that Aarons and a female partner of his choosing would face Robinson and Santana on Aug. 15 at the next HVW show.

A guantlet match took place next, as Mark Smart announced that he saw Rick Fuller’s gauntlet at the previous show and believed he could dominate oncomers just the same.

Michael Sain, Cabal, Shawn Allen and the Fish Farmer all answered the challenge—and they all walked away, leaving Smart writhing in pain. Smart tried his best to maintain an advantage, but his opponents had the wherewithall to attack Smart at opportune moments.

Eric Allen, Eric Fantabulous and Hunter Matthews wrestled an impressive triple threat match. Early on, Matthews seemed reluctant to insert himself in the bout and Allen and Fantabulous fought it out for a while. However, Allen and Matthews teamed up in an attempt to eliminate Fantabulous from the equation.

The desire to win soon took over, and all three men fought for themselves. Filled with multiple near falls and impressive maneuvers, these three men put everything on the line. In the end, Allen pulled out a victory over Matthews with a quick roll up.

The Bandana Mafia’s “Notorious E.V.A.N.” Evan Gelistico took on Michael Sain in the following contest. Gelistico started strong, knocking Sain out of the ring and proceeding to fly over the top rope onto the dazed Sain. Gelistico then brought the match back in the ring and continued to control the match until Sain’s anger overcame him. Gelistico fought valiantly against the infuriated Sain, but Sain emerged victorious.

The Pro Wrestling Entertainment (PWE) Tag Team Champions Zero Gravity, CJ Esparza and Brett Gakiya, put their belts on the line against The Hooligans. Esparza and Gakiya started the bout off with highflying intensity, clearing the ring of their opponents.

The fast-paced risk-takers met the more grounded Hooligans in an impressive bout that could have gone either way. Using their blunt force and tag team skill, the Hooligans cut off the ring and blocked Esparza from tagging Gakiya for a large portion of the bout, almost causing them to win. However, the referee disqualified the Hooligans for using steel chairs on Zero Gravity, allowing Esparza and Gakiya to retain their recently won belts.

Following the successful title defense, Absolute Wrestling Radio Co-host Matt Kreuger addressed HVW fans and “Future” Donovan Ruddick, specifically. Kreuger explained that he called Keny while on the air, forcing him to put his champion’s belt on the line against Former Wrestler and Current Absolute Wrestling Radio Co-host Mark Bland.

Ruddick emerged at ringside with Magic Man by his side and proceeded to attack Kreuger and literally threw him out of the building. HVW Livewire Champion Kahagas then walked through the door through which Kreuger was thrown, causing Keny to announce that on Aug. 15, fans would witness a Falls Count Anywhere match for the HVW Heavyweight Title between Kahagas and Ruddick.

After intermission, Shawn Allen took on the Bandana Mafia’s “Point Blank” Pierre Abernathy. Allen’s brutal offense slowed Abernathy in the beginning, especially after Allen wrapped Abernathy’s knee around the ring post. The ever-valiant Abernathy slowly powered his way out of defeat with Gelistico’s ringside support, and soon, nobody could stop him. Point Blank’s determination overcame Allen’s strength, locking in a win for the Bandana Mafia.

Aarons and Espinosa wrestled The Hybrids, Jason Lyte and Curtis Gilly, in the following contest. From the moment B.A.B.E.WATCH made their way to the ring, the fans relentlessly harrassed them, setting up their mindset for the entire match. Despite pyschological distractions, Aarons and Espinosa put up a tremendous fight against their opponents.

Their unique offense and use of illegal tactics nearly propelled them to a win. However, The Hybrids focused in on a miscommunication between their opponents—Aarons inadvertantly superkicked Espinosa—and walked away victorious. After the match, the Hooligans appeared from the locker room and attacked the Hybrids.

Robinson, accompanied by Santana, wrestled Nick Brubaker in a fabulous bout. Before the two could even lock up, Aarons attacked Robinson. That distraction allowed Brubaker to start the match off in dramatic fashion, but Robinson quickly found his niche in the friendly competition.

The two put on a show for the fans, and with multiple nearfalls and close encounters, it was hard to tell who would come out victorious. Robinson ended up walking away with the one, two, three, after which, Brubaker attacked Robinson and turned on Zero Gravity and Robinson.

The always energetic and flamboyant Gary Jay challenged Kahagas for the HVW Livewire Championship. From the get-go, Kahagas had his hands full with Jay’s unpredictable offense. Once the champion grounded Jay, he controlled the match.

However, Jay was not one to be discounted, as he gave his all, and nearly won the Livewire title on more than one occasion. Kahagas’ power became too much for Jay, and he succumbed. Although Jay did not leave Granite City with the championship, he left with the respect of the fans, and Kahagas as well. One could argue that another title shot lies in the near future for Jay.

In the main event, Ruddick put his HVW Heavyweight Championship on the line against Rebelucha. As, arguably, the best match of the evening, Ruddick and Rebelucha held nothing back. The champion used his power and ferocity in an attempt to will Rebelucha away from victory.

Still, Rebelucha pressed on and had Ruddick teetering on the edge of defeat. The challenger’s distinctive skill set caught Ruddick off guard and nearly cost him the belt. In spite of this, when Rebelucha attempted to lock in a triangle choke, Ruddick’s power became too much to bear. Moments later, Ruddick put Rebelucha down for the count with his border toss finisher.

MMWA-SICW May 23 recap

Posted by reimaginejournalism on May 28, 2009

By Kari Williams

With Mickey Garagiola, Larry Matsyik and Harley Race in attendance, MMWA-SICW celebrated the 50th anniversary of Wrestling at the Chase in style at the East Carondelet Community Center. Surprises came up throughout the night, from the opening bout to the main event, and one can assume that every fan left the show with something to talk about.

The Connection’s Manager Travis Cook and Shaft waged war with “Night Train” Gary Jackson and the SICW Security Guard Jim Brown. Jackson was suspiciously absent as the match started, leaving Brown to fend off Cook and Shaft by himself. The tenacious team pummeled Brown until Jackson ran from the locker room to aid his ailing partner. Upon Jackson’s arrival, Brown and Jackson slowly gained the upper hand. Despite Brown’s lack of wrestling training, he held his own against Shaft and Cook. After illegal tactics and double teams from The Connection, Brown astounded the fans when he pinned Cook’s shoulder’s to the mat. Cook had gone for a double axe handle from the top rope while Shaft held Brown, but Brown ducked and rolled up Cook for the pin.

Former allies turned to bitter enemies when Jeremy Lightfoot took on ‘Wild Child” Billy Diamond. Before the match began, Diamond and Lightfoot’s arguing prompted the referee to make the match ‘anything goes.’ Neither man gained a clear advantage, but rather, they seemed more focused on punishing one another. Victory aside, Diamond and Lightfoot wanted to brutalize one another, which they did, using the ring and the kendo stick Diamond carried to the ring as weapons. At one point, Diamond rammed Lightfoot into the ring post, causing Lightfoot to bleed profusely. In the end, Lightfoot connected with the Lightfoot Driver and both men were unable to answer the 10-count, causing a double count out. Afterwards, Diamond said, “I was wrong,” to Lightfoot and they appeared to reconcile.

The Connection’s Dave Vaughn put his Junior Heavyweight Title on the line against Jaysin Static in the preceding bout. Vaughn had to fight to keep his belt on this exchange because Static’s willpower was at an all-time high. The contest began as a back and forth technical battle, but the moment that Static began to overpower Vaughn, Travis Cook tried to call for a time out. However, Vaughn pushed through, and when Static leapt over the top rope onto Vaughn, that seemed to awaken Vaughn to the fact that his title could slip away. Once the two men made their way back to the ring, Vaughn would not relent in his attack, and he walked away as a champion after delivering the spear.

After intermission, Destiny Diamond and Waco teamed up to take on Junior Heavyweight Champion A.J. Williams and Women’s Champion Alexis Lightfoot. Destiny and Waco started the match off with a bang, as they attacked their opponents from behind to try to gain the early advantage. However, after a miscommunication between the evil duo, Williams and Alexis took over. Destiny was clearly the more dominant of the females on this night, which she proved in her attacks—especially the resounding chops—on Williams. In the end, Williams’ skill and Alexis’ determination lead them to victory. After Waco and Destiny had words in the ring, Waco appeared to threaten Race, who had been sitting ringside. This act of disrespect prompted Race to knock Waco to the ground, much to the delight of the crowd.

Lumberjack Andy took on Natas, with Lumberjack Allen at ringside. Andy started the match off on the right foot, which allowed him to dominate Natas for the entire bout. Just over the five-minute mark, Natas showed signs of life, but Andy quickly stopped his potential comeback with a big boot to the gut, soundly defeating Natas.

Matysik and Race spoke fondly of the glory days of Wrestling at the Chase, which Race wholeheartedly attributed to Sam Muchnick. Inbetween Matysik interviewing Race, Simmons received phone calls from Gene Kiniski and Baron von Raschke, who were put on speaker for the fans to hear.

Preceding the St. Louis legend’s words, Bobby D had his hands full with The Battle Royal Champion Big Texan. The SICW faithful escorted D to the ring with chants of “Rainbow Warrior!” which may have set the stage for the bout’s outcome. Texan viciously dominated D from the opening bell, but D would not go down without a fight. His determination and will became apparent when he surprised Texan with a dropkick to the back in hopes of changing the momentum. However, Texan emerged victorious, looking more dominant than ever.

Matysik introduced Garagiola to the fans inbetween the opening and second match. Garagiola reminisced in his unique fashion and proceeded to tell everyone in attendance, “I hope that someday we’ll cross paths again with Wrestling at the Chase.”

Moondog Rover took on Lumberjack Allen (with Lumberjack Andy) in a match littered with Rover’s dog-like tactics. Almost every time Allen tried to control the bout or use an offensive maneuver, Rover bit him. Being such, Andy did what he could in the form of distracting the ref to give Allen an advantage. Near the closing moments, Allen slowly began to will himself forward, Andy interfered, but with little success. Rover quickly attacked Allen’s knee, but Andy’s support must have helped Allen more than the fans realized. Just over the 10-minute mark, Allen pinned Rover for the win.

At the beginning of the show, SICW Promoter Herb Simmons spoke of Wrestling at the Chase’s history and said that the evening’s show was history in the making. He then introduced Matysik, who had kind words for the audience prior to the first match.
