MWR Exclusive interview with Brandon Aarons : Down but not out, Aarons continues his dream to be the best in the Midwest.

Interview by Brian Kelley

Brian: Brandon, on March 24th, 2012 in Red Bud, Illinois you make your return to Professional Wrestling after being away from the ring for 11 months, at the Independent Hardcore Wrestling Event. What exactly caused you to take such a long break in the first place after being on verge of having your “break out” year?

Photobucket

Brandon: Well Brian, I do not recall an exact incident that would have caused my problem but back in march of last year I started having nerve problems that went through both my right and left arms. I saw about 6 different doctors and they determined after numerous x-rays, MRI’s, and a ton of other tests that I had 1 of 2 problems. Problem #1 was that there was a cist full of fluid lining the inside of my spine. They told me that the cyst could burst at any time and if it did burst it would paralyze me momentarily and could cause permanent damage to my entire body. The only other thing that could think of was that I had a muscle deficiency so to rule that out I had a muscle biopsy done in September where they went in and cut a section of my thigh muscle out of my leg. Luckily the test results ruled that problem out but now I have a nice scar on my left leg for the rest of my life. Since that test came back fine they diagnosed me with the cyst in my spine. I was on bed rest the entire summer, I couldn’t workout, I had an IV in my 3 times a week feeding me vitamins and medicine to help with the problems the cyst was causing and also to help shrink the cyst. In the end the constant medication and rehab from my doctors paid off.

Photobucket

Brandon Aarons was one of the hottest wrestlers in the Midwest prior to his injury. Battles with the likes of Tyler Black, Eric Allen and Cameron Cage took its toll on the young star.

Brian: So right now your 100% healed up and ready to return to wrestling full time?

Brandon: Yes. After the biopsy I rehabbed my leg for 3 months and right around the time I was able to walk and jog comfortably on it I got cleared by my doctors to go ahead go back to living my life again. My nerve problems had stopped completely by the end of October and they said the cyst was not an issue anymore. Physically I feel amazing, I have progressed tremendously in the gym, and I have been training down at the south broadway athletic club weekly and have had no signs of previously problems.

Photobucket

The girls of the Midwest quickly flocked to the show to see the young stars good looks and electrifying skills in the ring.

Brian: Now that you have healed up and your back in the ring, What goals do you plan on Accomplishing the year?

Brandon: Right now I feel like I have something to prove. A lot of guys take time off or disappear for a period of time and then they just come back out of the blue and they are the same as before or a shadow of what they once were in the ring. I don’t want to be that guy. I don’t want to come back and be the same as before, I want to be better. I’m a dreamer Brian, I think big, I dream big. There is so much I want to accomplish in this business. I want to be the best. To be the best you have to be able to go toe to toe with the best. My goal for this year is to prove to everyone that I can do that. I know that if you put me in the ring with guys like Mark Sterling or Jeremy Wyatt that I may not be victorious but I can assure you I will give my all and push myself above and beyond what anyone has seen before from Brandon Aarons.

Brian: On that note, who do you consider to be the best right now?

Brandon: The one positive thing about being out for a year is that I had the chance to sit back and watch what everyone else was doing. To me, right now the best in this area are few and far between. Mark Sterling, Jeremy Wyatt, Brandon Espinosa, Davey Vega and Mike Sydal. These guys are wrestling the best Wrestlers in the country on a weekly basis, they are traveling, they are busting their asses non stop. These are the guys im gunning for. These are the guys I want to beat, these are the guys I want to be better than. Each of these guys have given me something that has helped me along the way in my journey so far, but my journey in this business has not even scratched the surface yet.

Brian: What companies are you currently looking to work for? 2 companies you have yet to work for are the last 2 MWR Promotions of the year in 3XW and Metro Pro Wrestling. Any interest in working with these companies in the near future?

Photobucket

Arch rival Eric Allen and Aarons has been a feud that the fans have enjoyed in the past, though each man has felt it for week afterwards. This weekend the two rivals will meet again.

Brandon: Right now I am booked for Independent Hardcore Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Epic, Metro East Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Prestige, and have been contacted by various other companies. I am always looking for new companies to work for and new places to make an impact, I have seen both products (3XW, Metro Pro) online before and I know that they have tremendous rosters. I would definitely be interested in working for those companies.

Brian: Brandon I think I can speak for anyone who has seen you in the ring in that we are thrilled to have you returning to the MWR Coverage area and to Pro Wrestling in general. Where can fans, wrestlers, and promoters get a hold of you and find more information on Brandon Aarons?

Brandon: The best ways to contact me are email at brandonaarons@yahoo.com or I also have a Brandon Aarons facebook page that you can message me on.

Brian: Brandon Aarons thank you so much for your time. It’s always a pleasure seeing you in the ring and I’m sure we are all looking forward to seeing you back wrestling full time and back entertaining all of us once again.

Rebuilding a renaissance: NWA World Heavyweight Championship returns to St. Louis.

By Kari Williams

When NWA Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce battles “The Tokyo Monster” Kahagas in St. Louis, it will be more than a championship match – it will be the continuance of a renaissance.

“My personal belief is the NWA world title is the godfather to all wrestling championships in the United States… It’s an honor to come back to one of the greatest hubs [in the country to defend the title],” Pearce said.

Pearce’s championship defense will be the first in St. Louis in approximately 20 years, which Pearce said forces him to want to raise the bar.

Larry Matysik is an Announcer, best selling author of books such as Wrestling at the Chase, Brody and Drawing Heat the Hard way. Today Matysik continues to be beloved and respected man in the community of St. Louis.

But former “Wrestling at the Chase” commentator Larry Matysik, the NWA Heavyweight Championship returning to St. Louis is about more than a single match – it’s a homecoming.

“The NWA was technically born in Iowa where [various promoters across the country] had a meeting. [‘Wrestling at the Chase’ promoter] Sam Muchnick… [was] one of the main people giving birth to the national wrestling idea and putting people together,” Matysik said. “St. Louis very quickly became home of the NWA because Sam was chosen as president of the organization, and the champion was booked out of St. Louis.”

St. Louis and the NWA were synonymous from the late 1940s to the early 1980s for both wrestling fans and those in the business, according to Matysik.

Pearce said being the one to defend the championship in St. Louis is an honor – and humbling.

While Harley Race was the NWA Worlds Champion , the sport was respected and the NWA was THE belt to own. Race would defend the title around the world against hometown stars and the worldwide names night after night.

“I’ve had a few of these [types of matches] come up in the last six months… Just this past week, I got back from Australia and it had been 33 years [since the title was defended there]. Harley Race was the last champion to go,” Pearce said.

Pearce, currently on his fourth reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion, said he has devoted his career to the belt.

“I’ve worked really hard personally to restore some of the luster to this championship… I’ve dedicated my career to the National Wrestling Alliance World Heavyweight Championship,” Pearce said.

St. Louis Match & Restoring Meaning to the Belt

Photobucket

Pearce’s challenger for the belt, “The Tokyo Monster” Kahagas is what Pearce calls a “tremendous competitor.” Kahagas has traveled the country, from the Midwest to Florida and Texas and is a former High Voltage Wrestling – Midwest Heavyweight Champion.“He’s definitely somebody in the last six months who has gotten his name out there… I admire him for that,” Pearce said.

Pearce said he has devoted his wrestling life to NWA belt and his goal is to make the letters N-W-A “mean something again on a much larger level.”

“I will always – until I take my last breath – feel the NWA World Heavyweight Championship is the most prestigious championship in all of pro wrestling… Today, in my fourth reign as in my first reign, I am as humbled as I always have been…,” Pearce said.

Seeing the NWA championship defended at a local promotion is a chance for the NWA to show off its champion around the world, Matysik said.

“I think wrestling more than anything right now desperately needs a place for young talent to get a place to grow, just aren’t enough places… To see the NWA champion on a program is going to be something really special,” Matysik said.

Matysik said he thinks it is important for independent promotions to find a way to be strong and having the NWA champion on the show could help.

“If the NWA, in latest incarnation, can do that that’s wonderful,” Matysik said. “The business desperately needs it.”

History of the NWA Championship in St. Louis.

Matysik said the original dream of those who started the NWA was for there to be one, recognizable champion. However, it never “really became a one-champion situation.”

“There were numerous reasons for that, but because their champion, the NWA champion, did wrestle in so many different areas… [he covered a] much larger area where one person is recognized as the champion,” Matysik said. “As wrestling magazines gained power in the ’60s and ’70s, they recognized the NWA title as more or less the real title.”

Through the efforts of Sam Muchnick and Ray Gillespie, Matysik said a line of succession for the NWA championship was traced back to the 1900s with Frank Gotch and George Hackenschmidt.

“There was research; there were facts… and they kind of looked at that champion as the champion,” Matysick said.

Additionally, Muchnick built everything around the championship in St. Louis, according to Matysik.

“[It] all revolved around who was the world champ, who was going to fight for the world championship… He made the championship even more important in St. Louis than it was anywhere else,” Matysik said.

The NWA title was so respected during the 80’s that it was Ric Flair, the NWA Worlds Champion that was voted as Wrestler of the Decade and not WWF (E) Champion Hulk Hogan.

Matysik said, in all likelihood, Ric Flair was the last person to defend the belt in St. Louis.

Pearce, who remembers watching tapes of Flair’s title defenses when the current champ was first breaking into the wrestling business, said he is most looking forward to “bringing [the belt] home.”

Photobucket

“There’s a renaissance going on with NWA world title. Whether I want to call it my calling [or not], it’s really been something extremely important to me to bring this championship to as many place as I can,” Pearce said.

10 Questions for the Midwest Sweetheart Santana G.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on March 19, 2012

Brian Kelley 1) Missouri Wrestling Revival has been on hand from the start to see your first match but for the new fans, please let them know where you got your training?

Photobucket

Santana G trained under one of the very best in the past thirty years in St. Louis at Dynamo Gym under Dingo. Dingo has thrilled fans at SLA and Metro Pro Wrestling this past year. Here at Metro Pro Wrestling Dingo goes full tilt against Dan Walsh (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Santana G -My training started in St Louis, Mo at Dynamo Gym-there I trained under Dingo for a few months until I moved back to Florida where I started training and currently train in Orlando at the Team Vision Dojo under Chasyn Rance, Larry Zbyszko, and Scott Hall

2) You’re father TNT Keny G was also a wrestler who was trained by Dory Funk Jr. and is currently the promoter for High Voltage Wrestling. What are some of your favorite memories growing up around the sport in Florida?

Santana G -Looking back, my favorite memory is just spending time with one another, wrestling was one of many of our common interests and made our father-daughter relationship that much stronger.

I also remember when I was younger my mother used to send me to school in these fancy/fluffy dresses, and when I was with my dad, he let me wear what ever I wanted. This usually consisted of my Stone Cold Steve Austin t-shirt with jeans. To this day I am still the girliest tomb boy you’ll ever meet.

3) What kind of advice has your father given you that has helped you at this stage of your career?

Santana G -Those who know my father knows he always has something to say. Therefore, over the years he has given a lot of great advice which has molded me into the girl I am today. One thing is to never change for someone else. Another is to not do anything that I may regret. I have this rule, when it comes to wrestling, I do not anything that I wouldn’t be comfortable doing in front of my father or my little brothers.

Photobucket

Santana G’s dad HVW promoter TNT Keny G did not take it easy on his daughter early on in her career as she was sent to the wolves when she took on the best women’s wrestler in the world MsChif in a early matchup. Though Santana was overmatched, she would earn the respect of the queen of the green mist for her never give up attitude and heart.

4) You have since moved to Florida, to continue your training. Who has been the most helpful in molding you into the star that you are today.

Santana G -Prior to moving back to Fl, I had minimal training. So when I got here I needed a place to train, I checked out Dory’s school and a few others, but I ended up meeting Chasyn at a show and he offered to me, an opportunity to train at his school. For the past two years, he has helped me stay on track with juggling my bookings, work, and maintaining a healthy body and mind. Not only has he been an amazing trainer, but also my best friend.

Photobucket

5) For a short time you were brought in with Orlando Jordan on SPIKE TV for TNA as a valet. Describe that experience for the fans.

Santana G -During my time there, I met many different wrestlers who have seen the ins and outs of this business and we’re willing to offer advice and answer any questions I may have as an up and comer. It was a good way to get my foot in the door and just a great opportunity.

Photobucket

The 2010 MWR Female wrestler of the year Amy Hennig was able to keep Santana G from the WLW Women’s title. The Midwest sweetheart feels that if that match was to happen today she would hold onto Harley Race’s Women’s title. Today she would have to go through current WLW Ladies champion Stacey O’Brien. A rematch MWR has been waiting for since last spring. (Photo credit Bill Smith)

6) Since then you have returned to the Midwest on a few occasions, notably for Harley Race’s World League Wrestling challenging then champion Amy Hennig for the title. Did the 8-time NWA World Champion Harley Race give you any feedback on your matches and looking back at the title match, how would you of went about getting the title off of her now?

Photobucket

Stacey O’Brien is considered to be the best in the MWR coverage area not named MsChif, many experts believe that Santana G has the beauty and talent in the ring and is on the verge of stardom in the sport for years to come. Will these two paths cross at either Dynamo or Metro when the Midwest sweetheart returns ? (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

Santana G -Harley was great! After my match w/ Amy I sat next to him at the merch table. He said to me, I knew you could actually work from the very first shoulder tackle -it only took one bump and he had already formed a positive opinion. It was quite an honor. As for getting the title off Amy, at that time I still had a lot to learn, it was very early on in my career. If given the opportunity again, I strongly believe the outcome would be much different.

Photobucket

Santana will be a part of one of the biggest cards in Florida, not named Wrestlemania when Adam Pearce, James Cornette, Chance Prophet vs Kahagas and Santana G and Chasyn Rance vs former TNA STARS Jessie Neal and Christina Von Eerie with special ref Sunny.

7) You are active wrestling in Florida, how many shows a month do you wrestle and for what promotions.

Santana G -Pretty much my life consists of working, driving, and wrestling. I am always so busy, but loving every minute of it. I average anywhere from 4 to 10 matches per month.

I work for many different promotions in Florida which includes: NWA Ring Warriors, I Believe In Wrestling, Coastal Championship Wrestling, Slammin Ladies, Pro Wrestling Xtreme, United States Championship Wrestling, United States Wrestling Alliance, and many more.

8) You have matched up against many of the best females in Florida. Take the time to tell the fans just who are among the top challengers and why.

Santana G -There are many tough female competitors here in Florida, some of which I have faced are Jessika Haze, Becky Bayless, Angel Rose, Leva, Su Young, Jessie Belle Smother, Rain, Kimberly, Jamie D, Rosie Lotta Love, and Calypso. I’d have to say out of all of them my top challenger remains to be Christina Von Eerie. She is extremely tough and has a bad girl attitude which in many cases has caused her to come up short in her matches.

Photobucket

Photos courtesy of Santana G’s facebook

9) Scott Hall had mentioned that you become the first female WOLF PACK member, that’s quite an honor. We know that he has kept an eye on your training at times, what have you taken from the former N.WO member?

Santana G -Scott has been a great mentor, taking me under his wing and giving me the titles, “The She Wolf, The Fastest Rising Female Star, and The First Female Member of The Wolf Pack” which indeed has been an honor. He has helped me develop not only as a wrestler, but an entertainer. If you ever get a chance, youtube Last Call with Scott Hall and watch him critique a match. He has a brilliant mind.

10) MWR fans are thrilled that you are finally returning back to the Midwest in April. It wont be easy though as you will meet one of your arch rivals and former TNA Star Christina Von Eerie on two separate nights, first in Glen Carbon, Illinois for NWA Dynamo on April 6th, then on April 7th for the 2011 MWR Promotion of the Year Metro Pro Wrestling. Explain the background of the two of you as this is a war that has been ongoing and is about to explode in the Midwest.

Santana G -When it comes down to it, CVE and myself are considered the top 2 female wrestlers in Florida. We both train hard to better ourselves in this sport and we have both proven why we are the best.

Photobucket

Can Christina Von Eerie ruin Santana G’s homecoming?

Her and I have had many matches this past year, and with each match our feud only escalades, as we are both trying to prove who really is the best. We have shown the fans in Florida what we are all about and now we are taking it to the MidWest, my second home.
