CWC Champion Ron Powers weighs in on being the special referee this Saturday in the number one contenders match.

We are joined with the current Classic Wrestling Champion Ron Powers today, first off Powers I would like to thank you for taking the time to talk to us at MWR.

Ron: Thank you for the opportunity

MWR: Ron it has been nearly a year since you captured the CWC Championship. Looking back at your reign, who did you feel was the biggest threat to your title and greatest moment to date?

Ron : It’s been 14 months, with the title. My biggest threat? No one. I am my own worst enemy. But I have to say, my greatest moment, was either laying out Danny Boy, or making Ricky Cruz bleed like a stuck pig.

Ron Powers and International superstar Ricky Cruz has been at each other’s throats for months. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

MWR: Your actions as Champion have not always been directed towards your competition and the fans. It has also been directed towards two of the nicest men in the Midwest Herb Simmons and beloved Wrestling at the Chase’s Larry Matysik. Please, take the time to remind fans of why you have so much animosity towards these two men who over a year and half ago had nothing but kind words for you as wrestler and a person.

Ron: There is something here, people don’t know. Larry, Herb, Brody, and Bob Orton created me back in the late 80’s. I am their Frankenstien. I cannot help who I have evolved into. Now I am supposed to be a nice guy? This business will bring out the worst in you. I’m just not afraid to show it. Everyone says I’m a bully. This is a business, my business……….Do something about it.

Sean Vincent , CWC Champion Ron Powers and The Big Texan has not seen eye to eye, it was only a matter of time before the power of 3 egos broke them up. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

MWR: Recently we took a closer look at your former right hand man, Sean Vincent and why he felt it was time to break away from your pack. His thoughts on The Big Texan was less than flattering, what was the reason you brought in a third man to your group and looking back was it a wise thing to do.

Ron: Sean Vincent was, is, and will always be, a tool. Unfortunately, a tool made in Canada. Foreign tools don’t last. I just throw the crap away. Big Texan is like a Craftsman tool. Made in the US, and came with a lifetime guarantee. As far as why I picked Texan? He’s better looking than Sean, even with the mask on!

MWR: Over the past few months we have seen you been put to the test as Ricky Cruz who has come very close to take your title. Last month, you were at seeking to take out both Vincent and Cruz. Vincent declared himself the next CWC Champion after winning a gauntlet match by defeating another rival of yours Chris Hargas.

You took exception to that comment and headed to the ring where you challenged the Canadian Hero right then and there. Vincent looked to have had the match won but because it wasn’t sanctioned the pinfall never counted.

Later that night you were involved in a two out of three falls match against Cruz. The match was tied 1-1 and from the reports we got, Cruz would have had you defeated for the title if Vincent wouldn’t have interfered and putting an end to the match.

Now the stage is set for a number one contenders match between your former partner in crime Sean Vincent and quite possibly the biggest threat to your title today, Ricky Cruz. Yet, there is a catch, you were somehow named special referee to this highly important match.

Photobucket

Sean Vincent may not have the size of the either Cruz or Powers but don’t count out the Canadian Hero. In the past few years he has picked up some huge victories. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

The question is can you call this match fair and square right down the middle ?

Ron: Lets get something straight. Cruz did not have me beat. It’s called stradegy. I knew what the count was. Now, back to the question. I have always been a fair person. Just misunderstood. I think it will be a great night. I love watching two people I can’t stand, A Puerto Rican and a canadian, beating the crap out of eachother!

MWR: Do you have a preference for who wins this matchup ?

Ron: Ricky has the edge. And Sean, you dumb ass, you’ve lost yours.

Photobucket

Many in attendance were shocked to see Kevin X fall to the multi talented Ricky Cruz in his last match in the Midwest earlier this month. Not MWR, Cruz may have struggled with the mind games of Powers but he is still considered a favorite to be the man to knock Powers off his throne in our eyes. (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

MWR: Any last words

Ron:  Yes, I have a few. And they won’t be the last. Ricky Cruz, If you beat Vincent, I’m only giving you one more shot. I never needed more than title shot, and I’d take what I fought for. Hell Ricky, I have 15 years on you. That’s about how long it’s been since I heard your brother squeel. I promise I’ll keep it in the family. As for Sean Vincent, don’t outsmart your common sense. Your a punk, and you can’t hold a candle to a third of my career. You can poke fun at me, my wrestling atire, and my size. I might be fat, but your ugly, and I can lose weight.

These shows will feature the long-awaited professional debut of 3rd generation wrestlers – Ross and Marshall Von Erich – sons of WCCW superstar and professional wrestling legend, Kevin Von Erich. Both sons arrived ready and eager to learn at the Harley Race Wrestling Academy on Wednesday, April 11th. Previously, they were training in the school system of Pro-Wrestling NOAH based in Tokyo, Japan. Pro-Wrestling NOAH is the sister company of WLW. They have been groomed by one of the best wrestling companies on the planet and look forward to debuting what they have learned exclusively for Harley Race’s WLW. The debut match on April 20th will feature the Von Erichs versus Brian Breaker and current WLW Heavyweight Champion “The Prince of Professional Wrestling” Jason Jones. To make the Von Erich’s debut even more extraordinary, their father – Kevin Von Erichwill be ringside to lend his support at ALL matches (April 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th)!

Also taking place throughout the Superbash Tour ’12 is the 2nd annual Harley Race Invitational Tournament. Last year’s tournament saw the crowning of the “Prince of Professional Wrestling” Jason Jones by his defeat of Ryan Drago. Since then, Jones has went on to claim the WLW Heavyweight Championship and has been on fire ever since. Another added bonus is the addition of the Ladies Championship defense by WLW Ladies Champion Stacey O’Brien. Her matches will be in defense against WLW newcomer The Great Cheyenne. The Boston Brawler’s skills will be put to the test as The Great Cheyenne wants to make a name for herself at O’Brien’s expense.

The Great Cheyenne looks to take over WLW and the Midwest in 2012.

Art contest of The Great Cheyenne and The Great Malaki won by Cheyenne Tallman

MWR fans have seen the Great Cheyenne wreck havoc in the past but in April she now sets her sights on the most prestigious women’s title in the MWR coverage area, Harley Race’s World League Wrestling Ladies champion Stacey O’Brien.

The two met at All American Pro Wrestling earlier this year as The Great Cheyenne meet O’Brien looked to end her winning streak at AAPW. Honestly, I was excited about how this match would go down. While I had fans come up to me and said that the match looked to be a struggle,

I was quick to reply to them that of course it was. First you have the 2-time MWR Wrestler of the Year Stacey O’Brien, though she is not huge in statue is trained by the great Harley Race. She is fundamentally sound and know how to use leverage and just when to explode at the right time to overwhelm her opponent.

On the other side of the ring is the demented powerhouse The Great Cheyenne. Though O’Brien has been in the ring with the likes of Miss Natural who is a powerhouse in her own right, Naturals offense is with a purpose. Meanwhile the Great Cheyenne is unpredictable and carries a rage that puts her opponent on the heels.

The first meeting between these two was a slobber knocker (Photo Credit Brian Kelley)

That is what happened as the two when into a battle of chess on AAPW’S Collision. It was by no means pretty as O’Brien struggled with the force of Cheyenne, as the current MWR Female Wrestler of the Year O’Brien befuddled the girl that is the she devil of Hellfire Symphony with the skills taught to her from Race.

At the end of the night the clash of styles would have O’Brien remain undefeated in ALL American Pro Wrestling.

Now the stage is set for a rematch in less than a week at World League Wrestling as Stacey O’Brien will defend her title against The Great Cheyenne on back to back nights in Sedan, Kansas and Richmond, Missouri.

I am thrilled to see just in fact who has the advantage in this rematch. Has the AAPW set off a feud that will last throughout 2012 and escalate throughout WLW and AAPW respectfully as well as all over the Midwest?

Also on these cards will be WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Von Erich, that will be ringside as his sons Ross and Marshall will team up to take on Brian Breaker and the WLW Champion “The Prince” Jason Jones, plus all of your favorite WLW Stars.

Also in attendance will be one of the greatest wrestlers of ALL-TIME Harley Race.

MWR Trading Card #70 Bob Geigel

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 13, 2012

Photobucket

Missouri Wrestling Revival was honored to present Bob Geigel with the 2011 MWR Lifetime Achievement award earlier this year at his home in Kansas City. The day was a true treat for myself who had grown up with ALL-STAR Wrestling that featured Geigel, Harley Race, Bulldog Bob Brown, Mike George, Rufus R Jones and appearances from men like the Road Warriors, Brody, Ric Flair and many more of stars of the early 80’s.

To say that All –Star Wrestling is a huge reason why MWR exist today would be an understatement. Each Saturday night as Saturday Night Live went off the air, the real action began. Little did I know that Geigel, Race and Pat O’Connor were the owners of my favorite promotion.

Yet Geigel had been instrumental with not only pro wrestling for many years prior but a man who served our country during World War 2 with the Navy Seebees. He was a natural wrestler who excelled as an amateur wrestler in High school and college for the University of Iowa.

Throughout his career he would win many regional titles before retiring to become a promoter and also served 3 terms as president for the NWA.

To say I was excited about the visit to his home would be an understatement but when he agreed to be a part of the set I was more than excited to have a man of his statue a part of the MWR Trading card set. With art from artist Rob Schamberger this is a must have card .

On Tuesday April 17th at the Cauliflower Alley Club reunion you will have a chance to meet Bob Geigel, Harley Race. Tom Andrews and ring announcer Bill Kersten at 2pm in the Nevada ball room.
