MWR Trading Card #48 MR Saturday Night” Michael Barry

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 8, 2011

Michael Barry *Photo Credit Bill Smith*

The talents of Michael Barry has earned him time in a WWE ring in the past while his charisma and hard work is the reason so many fans call him MR Saturday Night.

MWR is proud to have Barry as a part of the MWR Trading card series. Barry trained under former Central States great Sonny Myers as he has kept busy building a reputation as one of the very best outside the MWR coverage area.

When we saw Barry for the first time at Metro Pro Wrestling it was easy to see why WWE has taken notice of the man that fans call MR Saturday Night. Recently Michael Barry came within seconds of defeating Tyler Cook for the NWA Kansas Championship in Kansas City earlier this year.

Look for the Charismatic and exciting MR Saturday Night Michael Barry at a show near you.

Ron Powers shoots on the MWR,the Midwest and promoter Herb Simmons.

Wow, whomever wrote this has a big misunderstanding of what I am about.

Has anyone from this site  ever interview me about any of this?

I’ll answer that…..NO! You people interview the fans, the promotors, and all the guys in the locker room, who all have tall aspirations of going to the big show. This is usually followed by a handshake or a hug. Do you want to know the truth? Like Jack said,”You can’t handle the truth”. The truth is, this was, at one time, the most brutal profession to be in. The toll it would take on your body and mind was unimagineable. Keeping injuries a secret, keeping your head on a swivel, and the lack of trust with the bookers and talent, usually, was a day to day thing.

I was, as Terry Taylor described, “wrestlings best kept secret”.

World Championship Wrestling, World Wrestling Federation, and numerous companies in Japan, all wanted me on their roster. I brought Lex (Luger)to the point of collapsing after a match at a house show. The phone would not stop ringing. I knocked out the “Great Muta” in Japan. After that tour, I almost had to change my phone number. However, I had the ability to do, what alot of wrestlers couldn’t do, say NO. I was married with kids and had a great job. I knew I couldn’t keep both sides happy, so I chose family. I would work spots for all of them periodically, but if you don’t sell your soul to Them, you were just a drone. This is where I was different. I wouldn’t sell out. Bruiser Brody always told me to take what I want, and leave be, what I don’t. I’ve followed that advice since 1987.

Gary Jackson is no light weight himself but here he struggles from the strength of Ron Powers * Photo Credit Brian Kelley*

I might have aged, I might be 15Lbs heavier than when I retired in 2004, but I can still do my job better than anyone else, today. You see what I want to show you. You hear what I want to tell you. I have the ability to beat you in your mind, before we even lock up. When I face another man across that ring, I don’t see nervousness or excitement. I see fear in his eyes. I see him contemplate about finding another profession. I see his family look away. I can watch every match, at every show, and tell you who has potential, at a glance.

I look at your “trading card” list, and I see a few challenges, but not many. B.G. James, Mike Sydal, Sean Vincent, Mark Sterling, and Trevor Murdoch to name a few. However, back in WLW, I beat Trevor’s ass so bad, I guess he changed his name. Alot of the guys on the list, I’ve never heard of. I wont judge. As far as the rest of them, its like being really good at whiffleball, and trying to play pro baseball. You won’t make it past the first pitch.

Herb, I’m throwing a no hitter as your “Classic Heavyweight Wrestling Champion“. I know you are starting to get a little nervous about the amount of money your spending trying to knock me off. It will not happen. You brought in Danny Boy, Bob Orton, Dory Funk, and now Ted Dibiase, all to try to take me out. The only thing your doing, is turning the SICW into a grave yard. Vincent and I are just getting warmed up.

NWA Board of Directors grant Tony Kozina a shot at Craig Classic’s NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title

Posted by flairwhoooooo on June 6, 2011

National Wrestling Alliance- Midwest
St.Louis, MO.

Two days after a May 28th victory in Streator, IL. over Shank Barzini and Jimmy Karryt to become number one contender to the NWA Midwest X Championship, currently held by Oliver Cain, Tony Kozina got the news he had been waiting for since February.

The NWA Board Of Directors had reviewed his appeal of the Feb. 4-5 weekend and granted him another match against NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion, Craig Classic.

“In regards to the disputed dates of Feb. 4th and Feb. 5th, the NWA Board Of Directors finds the following.

DISPUTE OF FEB. 4th: Craig Classic misses flight due to weather. Planned championship match between Tony Kozina and Craig Classic is canceled.

CONCLUSION: Contract states that the terms of this agreement are void in the event of an “act of God”. Mr. Classic was delayed in New Jersey on Feb. 4th, due to weather. Therefore, on grounds of “act of God” this rematch request is denied.

DISPUTE OF FEB. 5th: Kozina is pinned, but has foot visibly on ropes. Referee doesn’t see this and counts to three. Referee is made aware of the situation by Kozina, but stands by his decision, and awards the match to Craig Classic via pinfall.

CONCLUSION: After reviewing the footage, the claims are found valid, therefore the NWA Board Of Directors grant a championship rematch of Tony Kozina and Craig Classic for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship.”

When asked about the Midwest X title, Kozina politely answered “Let me say that I’ve had my eye on the NWA Midwest X title since I moved to St.Louis. But it was always as a stepping stone to getting the World Junior title back. That’s been my goal from day one. I’m certain Oliver Cain has no shortage of hungry contenders. I’m going to start making the calls to secure a date and a city for the world title match and then it’s back to training harder than ever before, so there’s no point in looking at the X title right now.”

1.) Sir Bradley Charles won the Anytime Anywhere Contract Ladder Match defeating David Clark, Zach Thompson, & Darren “Thunder” Russell. At one point Russell was at the top of the ladder with contract in hand but Branden Juarez ran in and hit his MDK maneuver on a ladder. SBC nailed Thompson with “The Long Kiss Good Knight” off of a ladder, disposed of Clark and claimed the contract.

2.) Angelus Layne defeated Joey Daniels in an Inter-gender match. Afterwards an injured Brian Gott offered his spot in the Tag Team Championship Flag match to Layne and she accepted.

3.) Mad Dog McDowell defeated Jimmy Rockwell in a decisive victory.

4.) Abu Colossus defeated Shawn Nautilus in a brutal No Holds Barred Match that saw action all over the arena.

5.) “Babyface” Tony Cortez & Jaysin Strife went to a No Contest. Hype Gotti was inexplicably missing from the corner of Tony Cortez, but when Strife and his protégé David Clark tried to use a steel chain, Hype ran in a nailed Clark with Yakuza kick and ran off Strife! Cortez then made the challenge for June 25th: Cortez Vs. Strife in a Dog Collar Match!

6.) “Sensational” Sean Cruz defeated Supafli in a fantastic back and forth match up.

7.) “The Passion” Zac James & “The Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Slade w/ “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece retained the PWP Tag Team Championship in a Flag Match against “Beautiful Bodies” Derek Cornell & Angelus Layne. Layne replaced the injured Gott and they had a lot of momentum, however Axel Greece tied Angelus Layne to the ropes, Zac James & Ryan Slade beat on Derek Cornell and finally grabbed the flag to retain the titles.

8.) Vic Victory defeated Branden Juarez with a Phoenix Splash. Victory finally gained an amount of revenge on Juarez, although it took quite a bit of offense, and a lot of it was very high risk. Afterwards while Victory was celebrating, Juarez nailed Victory with an extremely hard chair shot, however Darren Russell made the save and Juarez left the arena still looking pleased with himself.

9.) Matty Star won the PWP Heavyweight Championship by defeating Preston Maxwell in a 2 Out Of 3 Falls Match! Preston gained the first victory with a vicious piledriver. Maxwell then immediately locked on the Gator Roll Choke, however Star reversed it and pinned Maxwell to gain the second fall! After a TON of insane action, Star nailed a top rope falcon arrow, and got the 1-2-3 to gain the victory and the championship! The locker room emptied out to the ring to congratulate Star, and Star said that he would be a fighting champion and anyone who wanted a title shot could have one.

What a great way to celebrate our 6th anniversary! Our next event is June 25, 2011 at the National Guard Armory in Council Bluffs IA! Here is what we know so far!

Dog Collar Match: “Babyface” Tony Cortez Vs. Jaysin Strife
All the hatred comes to a head in this dangerous match! Cortez & Strife will both wear a dog collar that is attached by a lengthy steel chain! These men are laying it all on the line here and it is going to be incredible!

Matty star WILL defend his newly won PWP Heavyweight Championship!
