This past weekend the St. Louis Metropolitan Police officers of the Third District gathered in Cherokee Park (3248 Lemp) to benefit the family of one of their own; fallen officer Julius Moore.

This was the fourth consecutive meeting of the Men of Shell and the Men of SLMPD District 3 and at this year’s game there were over 1900 in attendance. Even though the Men of SLMPD District 3 had less players (16 vs. 22) and faced a few ‘ringers2,’ they were victorious by a score of 38 to 30.

This game carried special significance for all the players and those in attendance because all proceeds benefited the family of fallen 3rd District Officer Julius Moore.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department:

Police Officer Julius Moore died on Thursday, October 15, 2009 as a result of injuries sustained during an on-duty vehicle accident on Tuesday, October 6, 2009. He was 23 years old.

Officer Moore was in his patrol vehicle with his lights and siren on, responding to a call to assist his fellow Third District Officers in their efforts to capture burglary suspects who had fled on foot. While en route to the call at approximately 12:57 p.m., Officer Moore’s patrol vehicle collided with a tractor trailor that was attempting to make a right turn. The collision pushed Officer Moore’s patrol vehicle into a traffic light and a brick wall before the vehicle came to a stop. He was taken to Saint Louis University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. He remained in the Intensive Care Unit until October 15 when he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. The driver of the tractor trailor was not injured in the collision and has cooperated fully with the investigation. No charges against him are anticipated at this time.

Officer Moore graduated from Normandy High School in 2004. He joined the department in April of 2007 as a Civilian Recruit in Training and graduated from the St. Louis Police Academy on December 6, 2007. He spent his entire commissioned career assigned to the Third District as a patrolman. He is survived by his wife, their three young children (two sons and a daughter all under the age of 5), his parents, a sister and many other family members in addition to his police family.

Remembering Officer Julius Moore (From the Official St. Louis City Police Department Website) On Sunday, October 25, a flag football game was held to benefit Police Officer Julius Moore’s family including his three young children, two sons and a daughter all under the age of 5. Third District officers took on local business owners and employees from Joel’s Shell with Officer Moore’s fellow Third District Officers prevailing 38-30. More than 20003 people attended the event including the marching band from Normandy High School, Officer Moore’s alma matter.

Though final numbers are still being determined, the event raised more than $2200 through food sales alone. The Third District Police Partnership will also match that amount. Donations from individuals and business through St. Louis continue to pour in for the Moore family. Memorial t-shirts are also being sold.

Law enforcement officials throughout the bi-state area and across the country lined surrounding streets to pay tribute to the young officer who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

(From “Big George Rumples, SBAC Reporter) The MMWA-SICW, in association with Joel’s Shell, Johnny’s In Soulard, Dr. Pepper, Save-A-Lot Foods, Nick’s Embroidery and various area leaders from the Benton Park-Soulard Neighborhood, took part in what KMOV-TV Channel 4 dubbed “the most important sporting event in St. Louis” on Sunday, October 25th, 2009 as The Shell Community Volunteer Football Team (aka “The Men Of Shell”) took on SLMPD District Three in a flag football challenge to raise funds for the family of beloved fallen 3rd District Police Officer Julius Moore. The event featured a military fly-over, honor guard, helicopter landing, fireworks, two marching bands and participation by MMWA-SICW stars Shaft, “Gorgeous” Gary Jackson, Chucho and several others. Tony Casta, the official Master Of Ceremonies for the 2009 Julius Moore Benefit Flag Football Game, was flanked by a dozen St. Louis politicians including Alderman Ken Ortmann, as he kicked the action off with the coin-toss.

MMWA-SICW Referee “Big” Jim Harris was the Head Official for the game and was praised highly by both teams for his fairness and quality of calls. Both singles champions from MMWA-SICW, Heavyweight Champion Phil E. Blunt and Jr. Heavyweight Champion AJ Williams, played as part of the Shell Community Volunteers and making big plays on the field.

Williams called the experience “incredible and fullfilling” and praised the SLMPD and MMWA-SICW’s own Tim Miller for promoting and coordinating the event. “Miller is a great promoter and the success of this event proves it” said Williams. “Tim and the boys in blue got together and they did the thing up right and showed that good people can come together and do good things. I’m blessed for being a part of all of this!”

Gary Jackson added, “Timmy Miller is like Don King, just a little more lighter and less round. Timmy Miller, when handed the ball, runs with it just like the great one, Gorgeous Gary Jackson, and scores big when the game is on the line! This here, the Julius Moore Benefit, reflects the spirit of what it’s all about… that’s giving back!

Timmy Miller, the players, the police and everyone should be proud because today we came together, had a great day in the (Cherokee) Park, made some noise and money for a great young family, and partied like rockstars, baby!”

Shaft, who brought his entire family to the event, called it an atmosphere that was great for a family day out. “The balloons, the food, the bands, the copter, fighter jets, STL rappers, wrestlers, fireworks and a few thousand friends and neighbors? Are you kidding me? This kind of thing is good for the children to see and be a part of and it shows that all of us can do great things when we join together and make the effort. There’s no place else my family would rather be today and I’m very proud to be involved in all of this with all of these great people!” said Shaft.

The final score was SLMPD 38, Volunteers 30. SLMPD QB Chuck Ervin (Calverton) was named 2009 MVP with a City League record 277 passing yards, half a dozen touchdowns and ran the ball into the endzone himself to seal the victory.

SLMPD RB Isbell racked up over 100 yds rushing and caught two endzone receptions. Volunteers QB Gator Bass passed for 202 yards, three touchdowns. Volunteers standouts on offense included James Montgomery and Dan Carey. Volunteers standouts on defense included AJ Williams, Rob Lott and Jason “Foot” Miller. The “Fighting Spirit” award was won this year by SLMPD Officer Isbell for his aggressive sportsmanship on the field. The final attendance figures for the game total over 2000 and next year the game might have to relocate to handle the growing following this annual event is generating.

All in all, it was a great day for St. Louis!

“Pro Wrestling Showcase” Focuses Energy on Action for All Ages

Missouri Wrestling Revival (MWR), in cooperation with High Voltage Wrestling Midwest and NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling, gives the motto “Giving Back to Midwest Pro Wrestling” added depth with a very special showcase show entitled “Pro Wresting Showcase” on November 14, 2009 in Granite City, IL at the River’s Edge Reception Center.

In the main event of the evening, “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt puts his money where his mouth is, defending the Wrestling Revival Cup for only the second time since he was awarded it by MWR in 2008. Wyatt finds his open challenge met by “The Future” Donovan Ruddick and Arya Daivari. Ruddick, standing 6’9” and weighing in at around 280 pounds, is coming hot off the heels of a high profile victory over another man issuing an open challenge. Ruddick could find himself the spoiler once again, but Daivari will bring his ruthless Middle Eastern athleticism and attitude to the main event.

In the Midwest, classic tag teams reminiscent of the golden age of pro wrestling are alive and well. In Granite City, four of these teams will converge in two matches that are sure to please young and old alike. One match features quite possibly the most celebrated and traveled tag team of the four, the Northstar Express (Darin Corbin & Ryan Cruz), going head to head with the team St. Louis fans might not be inclined to claim as their own due to their antics in the ring, B.A.B.E.WATCH (Brandon Aarons & Brandon Espinosa).

The second tag team contest will feature Louisiana’s finest, the Bayou Outlaws (Aaron Masterson & Mad Dog McDowell) trying to steal momentum from the Kansas City Connection’s Mark Sterling and Mike Sydal. Sydal, the younger brother of World Wrestling Entertainment’s Evan Bourne, recently stunned Granite City wrestling fans by saying he no longer considered St. Louis his home. Under Mark Sterling and Jeremy Wyatt’s watch, Sydal is proving to be cunning and calculated, but the Bayou Outlaws look to test this fairly new team with a tried and true tag team strategy developed from match after match of experience.

The lovely Santana G will be in attendance on the eve of her biggest test to date against current NWA Women’s Champion MsChif. Also scheduled to appear are “Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Slade, “Unbreakable” Zach Thompson, “6% Body Fat” Rob James, Eric Allen and “Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell.

“Pro Wrestling Showcase” is determined to give the fans more of what they want and less of what they do not.

Doors open at 6:45PM with an opening bell time of 7:30PM. Tickets are $12, with children 7 years old and younger getting in for free.

On Nov. 15, Great American Wrestling (GAW) will host a benefit show for Mya Muhleman. Mya is a three-year-old Spastic Quadriplegic. The show will feature a six man tag main event pitting Ian Rotten, Ryan Phoenix and a mystery partner against The Hooligans (Devin, Mason and Neil “Diamond” Cutter).

Other scheduled matches include: Gavin Alexander v. Willie “DaBomb” Richardson; Tag Team Battle Royal featuring The Love Machines, Second Coming and others who have not yet been announced.

Also scheduled to appear are: Markus Crane, Matt Cage, Cecil Cerveza and many more.

Independent Hardcore Wrestling returned to Dupo Illinois with their third show of the year with a WWE Legend in the house.

Before the matches began IHW honored their friend and fellow wrestler Zachary “Napalm” Porter. The Midwest wrestling scene was sadden after the horrific events that saw Napalms life taken as well as the mother and father of his girlfriend in a brutal murder. A touching video played for the crowd in attendance that showcased Napalm the wrestler and person. Thanks to IHW I am going to share with you the “Tribute to Napalm”

The night started off with a little wacky and crazy action that the Dupo crowd seemed to love as Poo Doo the Cow took on Farmer Billy Hills. I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard Ring announcer Luke Roberts ask “How much does a cow weigh?

All jokes aside the crowd was buzzing with MOOOOOO and Holy COW chants. In the end I found out that a cow could climb the ropes as Poo Doo the Cow hit Hills with a flying head but for the victory.

This prompted ECW original and Hardcore Legend Ian Rotten to enter the ring and cleared both Poo Doo and Billy Hills who was not amused with Poo Doo the Cow and more importantly was sicken about the low life who had taken the life of Napalm getting applause from the Dupo Crowd. Rotten stated “Mephisto later tonight we go to war, I am asking that you come out here”. Mephisto entered the ring and Rotten spoke about the loss of the wrestling world with Rotten losing his good friend Chris Candido while Mephisto lost his friend Napalm. Rotten then said he would be happy to fight Mephisto in a match for one mans honor. That this match would be not the real wrestling of sports entertainment but real full contact kick ass beats somebody down so if you will give me the pleasure I will give you the pleasure to tear this son of B**CH down. With Mephistos guard down Ian Rotten attacked to let Mephisto know that he doesn’t care about him at all!! Later tonight Mephisto’s career is coming to an end.

Up next one of the most underrated wrestlers Billy McNeil taking on Canada’s favorite wrestler Sean Vincent. Two guys that can really put on a show with there quick explosive moves. McNeil is truly electrifying while no one understands how to change momentum of a match like Vincent.

Back and forth these two warriors battled. Vincent thought he had the victory with a little help from the ropes but McNeil willed his way out of it into his own pinfall victory to shock Vincent.

The next match saw Shawn Almighty going one on one with former tag team partner Ian Storm. These two are new to me but both posse’s size as well as agility to make a run at anyone’s promotions singles titles.

Anger was evident as they battled inside and out of the ring. Storm was ruthless as he wrapped the leg of Storms on the outside turnbuckle. Shawn Almighty turned the tide when he rolled up Storm for the 1-2-3. Almighty’s celebration would be short lived as Mr. Late Nite came to the ring with his protégé Cabal and Graves attacked Almighty. In for the save came the ST Louis debut of Dan the Man and the Dixie Land Destroyer.

The ref rang the bell for Dan the Man and Dixieland Destroyer to take on Cabal and Graves in tag team action. Graves and Cabal had the power advantage on Dan the Man till Dan put on his cape that allowed him to knock down the much bigger Cabal and Graves.

MR Late Nite made his presence felt when he was able to get the Destroyer’s attention diverted by having him chase him in the locker room. This allowed Cabal and Graves to double team Dan the Man for the victory. The Dixieland Destroyer would return to clear the ring but it was too late as MR Late Nite had lead his team to victory.

In a grudge match between the ST Louis Invitational tournament champion Brandon Aarons went head to head with the man who felt that he should of won the trophy Eric Allen in a match billed as a Peorian Pride street fight title match.

These two young wrestlers went at each other with a vengeance. Ladders, handcuffs and chairs were used to bruise and battered each other. The crowd was easily on Aarons side as Let’s go Brandon lets go filled the room up trying to rejuvenate the Brandon as Allen pounded his arch enemy with all his might.

Allen set up a ladder in the corner along with a table, but the tables leg wouldn’t stand up which may allowed Aarons to get his wits together. Allen then found himself in a bad situation when Aarons delivered a chair shot at the top of the ladder sending Allen crashing on to the table.

The table held strong for the moment but it would be Aarons coming from the top of the ladder on top of Allen that would send the table into pieces and give Aarons the Peorian title.

As Aarons was celebrating his hard fought victory his tag team partner Brandon Espinosa entered the ring not amused. Espinosa stated that he was not pleased that Aarons was pampering to the fans and that it was not the fans that had help him (Brandon Espinosa) become one of the PWI top 500 wrestlers in the world, it was himself that had made it happen.

He told Aarons to watch his match with that bum Kurt Styles later in the night too see how wrestling for yourself had its advantages.

After intermission we would see if Brandon Espinosa could back his words by taking down Kurt Styles. From the get go Espinosa went after Styles. You have to give it to Styles as he showed a lot of heart but the truth of the matter is (and I hate to say this) Brandon Espinosa is one of the top wrestlers in the Midwest. Espinosa took it to Kurt Styles for the victory.

The next contest was an honor for the fan in me as I got to photograph a WWE Legend and one of the first wrestlers that I ever got to see on TV Cowboy Bob Orton as he went to battle the PWE Champion “Bloody” Harker Dirge. I was able to catch up with the PWE Champion Dirge earlier in the night. He had these words for Orton and a shout out for the MWR Fans to vote for him to be the 2009 MWR fans Wrestler of the Year poll. If you have not voted please check it out here.

Cowboy Bob Orton had a special guest with him on this evening, his son, Nathan Orton. The Dupo crowd was red hot for St LOUIS Own Orton; in return the champion looked to slow down the energy of the crowd by stalling and complaining to the ref.

I won’t lie to you I got caught up in the moment and became a fan as well while taking pictures. Dirge repeatedly choked Cowboy Bob Orton, Nathan who sat at ringside cheering on his dad could not take anymore, and like his brother Randy has a very dangerous kick that he delivered to the PWE Champion from the outside. The ref DQ’D Cowboy allowing Dirge to retain the title.

The next match saw Steven Kennedy taking on Bucky Collins in a one on one match up. I had never seen Collins prior to this night but was very impressed with him as these two really had a solid match up.

Steven Kennedy continued his rise to the top of the Midwest with a win against Collins on this night. I look forward to checking out more of Collins in the area.

It would take a while to get the ropes down and put up the barb wire, meanwhile Luke Roberts pointed out to the crowd the damage that the barb wire presented but demonstrated how it could slice through an aluminum can. That is one a reason why I write for a wrestling site and not in the squared circle. I was excited to see Ian Rotten vs. Mephisto 2.

For the ones who state they don’t like Hardcore, I respect that and think no less of you. Let me say that you know what you are getting at when you go to a promotion and the name of it is Independent Hardcore Wrestling expect to see some hard hitting ruthless action.

Ian Rotten went after Mephisto from the start. At one moment Rotten was raking Mephsitos head in the barb wire, if having your head opened with the sharp barb wire wasn’t enough for the hometown warrior, Mephsito’s hair was tangled up for a moment luckily for him (or maybe not) Rotten yanked his head and hair off it. The brutality continued with thumbtacks and light bulbs. Chair shots and forks delivered the damage in this war.

Words can’t describe this contest. Rotten got some wire cutters to cut the barb wire ring and wrap Mephisto up then proceeded to cut him with a broken glass bottle demanding that he quit. When he wouldn’t Rotten went crazy and hit the referee Eric Davis with a chair as well as a security guard and Max Archer. Rotten then took a belt and wrapped it around the neck of Mephisto. Dan the Man ran into the ring to make the save, but in one of the smartest moves I have seen he backtracked and went back to the locker room. Rotten now with no one to stop him. sent Mephisto hanging from the top rope barb wire. Stating that his job was done. He had finished off the hometown favorite Mephisto.
