LWA May 30 Arena Report

Posted by reimaginejournalism on June 17, 2009

By Kari Williams

Lethal Wrestling Alliance (LWA) returned to the Vetta Sports Complex in St. Peters, MO with a crowd of 103 ready to watch “Future” Donovan Ruddick take on LWA Champion Jeremy Wyatt for the title. They were also sitting on the edge of their seats anticipating who would win the battle of the submission squads. Would the new breed of Evan Gelistico and Pierre Abernathy dominate? Or would the originals, Nick Tyson and Dingo, prove their worth?

Before either of those explosive matches took place, the always-flamboyant Mike Sydal, with Brandon Aarons and Brandon Espinosa, had his hands full against Shamus O’ Flannery. Sydal and O’ Flannery kicked off the show with a high-flying, fast-paced bout, which Sydal appeared to dominate.

However, O’ Flannery had the opportunity to get in a few key offensive maneuvers with his astounding antics. Despite the fans being firmly against Sydal and his companions, O’ Flannery came up short in this instance, as Sydal pinned him for the three count.

Former LWA Champion Shorty Biggs took on Mark Sterling in the following contest. The more technical Sterling controlled the majority of the match up against the more grounded Biggs. Sterling’s ‘I’m better than you’ attitude stood at the forefront during the bout, as he berated Biggs inbetween suplexes and punches.

At the urging of the fans, Biggs nearly had Sterling defeated, but the tenacious Sterling would not relent, despite a painful submission hold. Sterling wound up delivering a punishing piledriver to Biggs for the win.

Pierre Abernathy, Evan Gelistico, Gary the Nightowl and Tiffani LaFane then came to the ring, claiming they did not want to wrestle Tyson and Dingo. When the trio called out their opponents, Adam Raw emerged, stating that the match will go on and that Tyson and Dingo ditched the current Submission Squad members because Abernathy and Gelistico turned the group into a joke. Angered by Raw’s statement, the three men attacked Raw, even going so far as to pulverize Raw’s already-injured arm with a ladder.

B.A.B.E.WATCH made their second appearance for Aarons’ match against Super Electro. With Sydal present at rignside, Electro began at an immediate disadvantage, but he worked relentlessly to come out on top. After nearly besting Aarons in a test of strength, he looked poised to win the bout, but Sydal’s constant interference cost Electro.

Sydal’s antics included jumping on the ring apron to distract the referee and choking Electro on the ropes. He even aided Aarons’s winning pin, when he held Electro’s foot to ensure that the masked man could not kick out.

Next, Gary the Nightowl, accompanied by Tiffani LaFane, tried to get the best of K.C. Karrington. As the bell rang, Karrington got the best of Gary by throwing sunflower seeds on the mat, causing the nightowl to run around eating seeds. Once the contest got underway, both men put on a terrific showing of their athleticism.

Gary’s newfound rage, and LaFane’s guidance at ringside, made him a ruthless opponent. However, Karrington would not be denied. He overcame the odds of having his former manager present and defeated Gary after Gary missed hitting Karrington from the top rope. Karrington saw his moment, and took advantage, securing victory.

After intermission, the battle of Submission Squads ensued. Tyson and Dingo fought with fire and determination burning in their eyes. Their focus seemed to shock Abernathy and Gelistico, who resorted to illegal tactics. They even goaded Tyson in the ring when Dingo was hurting, only to have the referee stop Tyson, allowing the new Submission Squad to further punish Dingo.

The technical approach of Tyson and Dingo put them in control of the bout. Both teams fought valiantly, but Tyson and Dingo’s fervor did not equate to success. Gelistico forced Tyson to tap, allowing the new squad to retain the tag team titles.

Abernathy grabbed a mic after the match and proclaimed that the match they just participated in was Tyson’s last match and that Gelistico and he wanted to shake Dingo and Tyson’s hands out of respect. The fans did not buy in to Abernathy’s spiel, and just as the four men were about to shake, Gelistico and Abernathy spat in the faces of their former allies.

Karrington returned to the ring for an interview with Paul Parker, where Karrington discussed the end of the Ego Express, his newfound singles career, and his forthcoming title match.

Dash Rando wrestled B.A.B.E.WATCH’s third man, Espinosa, in an intense battle. Rando’s highflying, enigmatic style made him popular with the fans and allowed him to excel against Espinosa. With Aarons and Sydal at ringside, one could imagine that Rando had no chance of surviving.

He handled the difficulty quite well though, even taking out all three men with one shot from the top turnbuckle. Unfortunately, after Espinosa planted Rando with a double-underhook backbreaker, Rando came to a dead stop. Espinosa attacked Rando as Rando escaped to the back. Espinosa won via countout.

Wyatt and Ruddick went through a hellacious battle in the main event. These two tremendous athletes put everything on the line for the sake of championship gold. Wyatt’s tenacity and pure viciousness and Ruddick’s raw strength were present throughout the entire encounter.

Approximately half way through the match, Ruddick and Wyatt took it outside, and fans scattered to get away from the angered-fueled athletes. Champion and challenger battled all the way through the fans, going from one side of the arena to the other, holding nothing back.

Controversy ensued after the referee made a three count, awarding Ruddick the belt, despite Wyatts foot being on the ropes. Photo by Kari Williams

Ruddick looked poised for victory as they made their way back to the ring, and nearly earned himself the LWA championship after delivering the Iconoslam, but Wyatt had his foot on the bottom rope and the referee did not see it—LWA President Luke Roberts did, however. Roberts ordered the match restarted, and after a few minutes, Wyatt covered Ruddick while Ruddick’s foot was on the ropes, and retained his belt. Despite the referee noticing Ruddick’s foot after the count, Roberts did not restart the match.

Once Ruddick went to the back, Karrington came out to challenge Wyatt for the title. After arguing, begging and pleading, Wyatt accepted the challenge proclaiming, “It will be your only shot because I am
going to murder you.”

LWA’s next event, Circus Maximus, will take place on June 20 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in O’ Fallon, IL. Check http://www.lwawrestling.com for more details.

wyatt

Jeremy Wyatt once again dominated the Midwest . On May 1st in Carlisle, IA at 3XW he regained his 3XW Pure Championship from Tyler Cook when he delivered a Kansas Tumbleweed to Ricky Kwong in a four way dance, with the match stipulating that whoever got the pinfall would win the belt. At Pro Wrestling Phoenix, Wyatt defended his title against Payday Patterson and with his friends Mark Sterling, Brett Young and Joey Daniels, Wyatt created mayhem when they attacked innocent ring crew members, current and former wrestlers and whoever would get in their way. In Kansas at NWA Dynamo Pro Wrestling Shawn Shultz defended his NWA Mid America TV Title in a triple threat versus Jeremy Wyatt and Shorty Biggs. Wyatt was victorious, but pinned Shorty, so according to the previously stipulated rules Shultz retained his NWA Mid America TV Title. Wyatt was so close to becoming an NWA Champion, but a match with Shultz one on one will be a must see for all wrestling fans. At LWA, the title of the May 30th show was “The Future is Now” with the thought that Donovan Ruddick would reclaim the LWA title that was once was his. Wyatt and Ruddick fought in the ring and out. When the smoke cleared Wyatt retained the title. An amazing month for the man nicknamed The Belt Collector.

From Sam Muchnick to Harley Race to Gary Jackson. Harley Race and several friends made the reunion a success. Mark Bland

l_9c51e131ea45fc2940acd16b5d0e4831

As the host of the fan favorite wrestling/MMA show with Matt Krueger Bland provides an outlet for wrestling fans to speak their mind on the sport that they love. When Mark Bland decided to get back in the ring and offer some excitement in the Midwest with a match against any champion in a 200 mile radius, no one stepped up. Bland looked around and wanted to take on one of the best wrestlers in the Midwest and found himself what could be his death wish in Donovan Ruddick, the High Voltage Wrestling Heavyweight Champion. A Sunday phone call to HVW promoter “TNT” Keny G lit the fuse that saw an invite to AWR’s Matt Krueger to their show on May 9th. Krueger unwisely attack Ruddick with a chair and got rewarded with a one way ticket out of the arena. The aftermath has seen Mark Bland go back into training with warnings from UFC former Champions to Ruddick that Bland will knock him out. TNT Keny G responded on May 31 by taking over the AWR Radio program while Bland attended to his family for the day. What will happen in this feud? Will Bland be able to topple the giant or will he be exposed as the fraud many thinks that he is. Whatever the end results the year of 2009 looks to be anything but “bland”.

1st Runner Up- {Tie} Kari Williams, Paul Daniels
2nd Runner Up – {Tie} Harley Race, Eric Davis

Mississippi Madman was on a roll as the PWN Champion last month he won a huge Title vs. Hair match against Marek Brave. The Madman looked unstoppable going into the his title defense against the talented Danny Daniels. Daniels would stop at NOTHING and took it to the big man. Outside the ring they fought and up the bleachers and throughout the building. The Madman look to turn the momentum, but with a little distraction from a masked man Daniels was able to put the Madman through a table and get the one two three.

Jaysin Static hopes to electrify the Midwest

Posted by reimaginejournalism on June 14, 2009

By Kari Williams

Jaysin Static’s wrestling career began two years ago at the urging of one of Mid-Missouri Wrestling Association-Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling (MMWA-SICW) mainstays—Shaft. In a relatively short time, Static has traveled across three states with hopes of learning from everyone he encounters.

“[Shaft] told me to come down to a show when I started working [with him], and it was all she wrote from there. I started coming down and watching as a fan and finally decided to get into it,” Static said.

Jaysin Static wrestles predominantly with MMWA-SICW, however, his career has taken him to CCW (Indiana) and JCW. Photo by Mike VanHoogstraat

During his time in wrestling, Static has already discovered what he considers one of the most important aspects.

“Respect. We all go out and do the same thing to put a show on for the fans. My main thing is, I’m going to respect you if you respect me. Wrestling’s been around many, many, many years, and I respect everybody and everyone that’s ever been in it because if it wasn’t for them, there wouldn’t be me. There wouldn’t be anyone else,” Static said.

Although Static works predominantly with MMWA-SICW, his journey has taken him to Heartland Championship Wrestling, Juggalo Championship Wrestling and Colisuem Championship Wrestling (CCW) based out of Indiana. While with JCW, Static had the opportunity to step in the ring with one of his childhood idols on April 25, 2008.

“I grew up watching Tracy Smothers and some of the other guys that were on the [JCW] show. Raven was on the show. He was one of the main people that inspired me to [start wrestling].

“[Tracy Smothers and I] still talk every once in a while, and he just inspires me to keep doing what I’m doing… I don’t know. I can’t put it into words. It’s really hard to explain because he just [makes me want] to push harder to get to the level of where they’ve all been,” Static said.

Static looks up to every person in the business because they put their bodies on the line every time they step in the ring. Although Phil E. Blunt has been Static’s most consistent opponent, Static could not pinpoint one wrestler he would like to step in the ring with due to the vast array of talent in the area.

“There [are] so many great, talented guys in the industry, especially here in the Midwest. I really couldn’t put it into words because there [are] great guys everywhere. LWA. High Voltage [Wrestling]. Everybody’s got great wrestlers. I don’t complain about anybody. Everybody’s great in my eyes. Anybody that wants to wrestle me, come on. I’m down for anybody,” Static said.

In addition to his eagerness to wrestle whenever the opportunity presents itself, he also has a sincere appreciation for the art.

“I never stop learning. That’s the good thing about this, you never stop learning. You learn from anybody and everybody that you step in the ring with. If it’s just a regular indy guy from down here [South Broadway] or a big name veteran like Tracy Smothers, you never stop learning. You learn from everybody,” Static said.

With that, Static leaves an open challenge to anyone willing to face him—“Midwest, watch out. Jaysin Static is back, and I’ll face anyone, anywhere, any time.”
