Golden Circle: At Home in a Lockeroom

Posted by flairwhoooooo on September 11, 2009

By “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony

When most people start a new job there is that first awkwardness. That uncomfortable silence of when you don’t know what kind of people you’re working with. Way be for you find your mutual likes and dislikes. I mean heaven forbid you be a cardinals fan and your boss is die hard cubs, right? I’ve honestly never had this feeling in a pro wrestling lockeroom.

Any lockeroom I walk into those 15-16 guys or 47 if your at a DK show, I know we all have atleast one thing in common. A common thread that can get the ball rolling on any coversation. Now nobody agrees 100% of the time but atleast we can agree we love wrestling. Some don’t love wrestling at present but they loved it more than anything at one time in their lives. Why else would they be here?

Since I’ve had the opportunity to tag with Bobby Eaton on a regular basis, I’ve found myself in new lockerooms. With some guys I’ve worked with before but others I’ve only heard about. In any other business situation this might cause some anxiety but in pro wrestling I really see it as another opportunity. To share like stories of how we broke it, people we enjoy working with or those we don’t.

In Mississippi I got to work with Tony Dabbs. Nice guy who really impressed me in ring. One of those guys that you can just grab and go. In Fort Smith, Arkansas we worked with Jeff Jett and Matt Riviera. Jeff was fun to work with and isn’t afraid to push the limits. Matt showed off some charisma and defiantly had his ducks in a row when came to running a promotion.

Midnight Gold has be shown alot of hospitality and want to take this time to say thank you to everyone involved. Wrestling can be a jealous business but its nice to see lockerooms looking out for each other and not themselves. I believe I can speak for Bobby and Brian when I say we have felt at home in some of these lockerooms. So Thank you

Announcement: Stepping Down

Announcement:
Stepping Down

by Josh Ray

Those of you out there that know me understand that I am very passionate about professional wrestling, yet respectful of what it and all involved represent.  Missouri Wrestling Revival was created to give back to Midwest pro wrestling, and I can honestly look back and say that for nearly two years as the owner and editor of MWR I have done just that.

What was meant to focus my talents has quickly grown into something that is difficult for me to manage with the many responsibilities to school, work, and my family, however, and it is with a heavy heart that I must announce the sale of my beloved business and website.

I have received many offers for the site over the last few months, but have decided that the best thing to do in the interests of my good friends Brian Kelley and Kari Williams was to allow them to continue mission with MWR right here at this website.

Therefore, as of today I am stepping down as the owner and editor of Missouri Wrestling Revival.  Brian Kelley will assume this position permanently, with Kari Williams continuing work as a staff writer for the site.  Brian has had previous experience taking over day-to-day operations of the site when I departed for Iraq late last year until March of this year, and I have no doubt that he will continue to be as unbiased in his pursuit of giving back to Midwest pro wrestling!  Expect to hear from him soon on the site, as he transitions into his new role and begins implementing positive changes to the site.

I will be taking over as a partner with High Voltage Wrestling, furthering my pursuit of dreams in wrestling. This allows me a much more flexible schedule and does not tie me down with the ongoing projects of over 20 promotions in the area! I will also continue taking bookings as a ring announcer and other similar work as my schedule permits. The key for me was flexibility in my schedule and the ability to focus on things that further my career.

My last official duty with MWR will be November 14, 2009 in Granite City, IL when I will execute what I hope will be the pro wrestling show of the year.  MWR Presents Pro Wrestling Showcase will be a great event for the entire family, so come join me in celebrating good wrestling action at the River’s Edge Reception Center.

I will retain the use of the Wrestling Revival Cup in my capacity with HVW.  It’s my hope to create a tournament in the near future that rivals any other across the country, with the Cup as the centerpiece.

Thank you all for your support during this transition.  Continue to support MWR and your local indy wrestling as long as they support you with good shows!

Special thanks to many along the way that have helped me get to where I wanted to be in pro wrestling through great advice and other opportunities:

Ed Chuman
Martin T
Evil Jim and Crystal
Skylar Pierce
Todd Countryman
KL Snow
Dan Gier
“TNT” Keny G
Tobi Hope
George the Third
Sean Chambers
Brian Kelley
Kari Williams
Brandon Schmidt
Matt Murphy
Mark Bland
Bubba

… and countless others!  I can’t forget some of the people I have had the opportunity to write about since MWR started, including Mark Sterling, Bao Nguyen, Mephisto, and more.  Thank you to everybody!

Make no mistake about it, the stars of tomorrow are in the Midwest today!  I am proud to be a part of Midwest pro wrestling!

3XWrestling Welcomes National Wrestling Stars

Posted by flairwhoooooo on September 5, 2009

3XWrestling Welcomes National Wrestling Stars
Iowa’s Top Wrestling Company Hosts WWE Veterans

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines-based 3XWrestling (3XW) is proud to announce the addition of two national wrestling stars to its Clobberpalooza Classic II event on Sept. 18 at the Des Moines Social Club.

Former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) superstar Al Snow, a widely-known veteran of professional wrestling and multiple-time champion, has signed to compete in the main event of 3XW’s Clobberpalooza Classic II. Snow will challenge “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt, the 2008 Missouri Wrestling Revival “Wrestler of the Year,” for the 3XW Heavyweight championship in one of the year’s most anticipated matches.

Snow is most famous for being a major WWE fan favorite a decade ago, when WWE television shows were reaching record cable television ratings. He’s also known outside of wrestling for being the star and head trainer on MTV’s WWE Tough Enough for three seasons and being a playable character in millions of copies of WWE video games sold.

“I have been saying for months and months and months I am the best wrestler in the Midwest,” Wyatt said. “WWE star Al Snow is coming to take my title? Well, you see, I’m Jeremy Wyatt – superstar. I have beaten star after star after star. I’ve beaten Christopher Daniels, Jerry Lynn, Davey Richards, Sonjay Dutt, Tyler Black…the list goes on and on.”

Will Snow make a huge impact and win the 3XW Heavyweight title or will Wyatt continue his dominance of the Midwest wrestling scene? Wrestling fans are anxiously waiting to find out on Sept. 18 at Clobberpalooza Classic II.

Also set for action is current TNA Wrestling and former WWE superstar “The Middle Eastern Nightmare” Sheik Abdul Bashir, who will team with his brother Arya Daivari to challenge The High Flyers, “The Unbreakable” Zach Thompson and Mike Sydal – brother of current WWE superstar Evan Bourne – for the 3XW Tag Team championship.

Bashir, a former TNA X-Division champion, can be seen weekly wrestling some of the quickest and hardest-hitting wrestlers in the world on Spike TV’s popular TNA iMPACT! television program.

He’s also famous for his time in WWE as Khosrow Daivari, where he battled the likes of wrestling legends Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels. In fact, he pinned Michaels in a match on WWE’s flagship television program Monday Night RAW.

The 3XW Tag Team championship match at Clobberplaooza Classic II marks the first time Bashir teams with his brother Arya, who is a regular member of the 3XW roster, to compete on a 3XW event.

Among those also competing on Sept. 18 are 3XW Cruiserweight champion and the 2009 King of Des Moines “The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell, “Delicious” Devin Carter, Casanova, Gage Octane, Mark Sterling, Maddog McDowell, Krotch, “The Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Slade, A.J. Smooth, “The Right Price” Aaron Masterson, “The Asian Sensation” Ricky Kwong, “Torturous” Tony Sly, and more!

Doors open at 7 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. start time. The Des Moines Social Club is located at 1408 Locust St. in Des Moines.

Founded in 2005, 3XWrestling, a Des Moines-based organization, has performed in front of thousands of fans across Iowa and been featured on Iowa Public Radio and in publications including Juice and Cityview. 3XW events are held monthly in Des Moines.

3XW and its performers are also heavily involved with charity work – a recent 3XW benefit event in Ottumwa, Iowa featuring one-legged wrestling star Zach Gowen raised over $10,000 to help the family of a young man whose leg was amputated due to his battle with cancer. All proceeds from the event we’re given to the family to offset medical costs, with every wrestler performing on a volunteer basis.

Isaan Hadeev reaches pinnacle of career

Posted by reimaginejournalism on September 4, 2009

By Kari Williams

Isaan Hadeev reached the pinnacle of his career July 19 in Danville, IL as he successfully battled Nick Cutler and DaCobra in a triple threat match to emerge with the New Breed Wrestling Alliance (NBWA) Heavyweight Championship. The moment he won the belt, Hadeev “silently thank[ed] [his] son and mother for the strength to continue and be the best in the NBWA.”

Hadeev views his championship victory as the be-all, end-all for his professional career.

“Being the NBWA Heavyweight Champion [is my greatest accomplishment] because that is where I started, and that is where I will finish,” said Hadeev.

Mississippi Madman, a six-year veteran in the Midwest, has high hopes for Hadeev, who Madman has crossed paths with on a number of occassions.

“He will make a great nbwa champion. He is a great in ring technician and [has] great charisma,” said Madman.

Although his desire to become a wrestler developed many years ago, Hadeev did not have the means to do so until he apporached NBWA Owner Don Kato after a show in 2006. His training started the following week. Despite his aspirations, he limited his ambitions for the sake of his family.

“I decided I wanted to wrestle back in 1996 but never had a venue till several years ago. When I started wrestling I wanted to do it full time, but my career outside the ring along with family are much more important,” said Hadeev.

Hadeev values spending time with his family over taking his career to a higher level, as in WWE or TNA. He considers his wife, Angelita, and his children, Austin and Jennifer, far more important. Photo courtesy of Isaan Hadeev

He restricts his travel, somewhat, due to caring for his family but still works for NBWA, All American Pro Wrestling (AAPW) and IWA Productions. While in NBWA, Hadeev had the chance to wrestle “The Japanese Nightmare” Kahagas in the Alberta J. Murray Tournament June 21.

“I would have to say my [favorite] match [was] with the Japanese Nightmare Kahagas because there is no other man in this business today who can match stiffnes, viciousnes and brutality like he and I do. I still want a rematch,” said Hadeev.

Kahagas was unable to comment on the match due to the absence of a translator, however, Hadeev clarifies that he and The Tokyo Monster “really didn’t wrestle each other, we literally just beat the hell out of each other.”

Cutler can testify to Hadeev’s statement, having gone to battle with him only a few months ago.

“Issan is by far one of the toughest guys I have worked with. Physically, me and him match up pretty evenly, but there is a ferociousness about him that I haven’t experienced with anyone else I have worked with,” said Cutler.

NBWA Wrestler Aaron Matthews has been wrestling for five years and has crossed paths with Hadeev on a number of occassions. Matthews’ favorite match was Hadeev’s debut match.

Less than a month after going to battle with “The Japanese Nightmare,” Hadeev walked out of the triple threat NBWA Title match riding high. Perhaps some of what lead to Hadeev’s victory had to do with the way he “get[s] inside the heads of the wrestling fans and the wrestler himself”—his favorite part of wrestling.

“I have not had the opportunity to defend the championship since I just recently attained it, but, in all honesty, I don’t believe I will defend it anytime soon since: One, the fans don’t deserve to see a true talent like myself perform; they are not privelaged enough. And two, there is no single wrestler in NBWA or central Illinois who can match strength, skill and wits with me,” said Hadeev.

Because his love for family outweights his love for wrestling, Hadeev remains content with his current position as the top dog in NBWA.

“What are every wrestlers dreams? To make it to WWE or TNA. But I am a realist and realize that will never happen for me as I choose family over being away 300 days a year. But I know if I focused 100% I would make it,” said Hadeev.

With the help of Kato, “Bloody” Harker Dirge and Corleone, among others, Hadeev has had the opportunity to make his dreams come true, while putting his family first.
