2) The Northstar Express (Darin Corbin and Ryan Cruz)

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 18, 2011

They were the first ever MWR Tag Team of the year, was showcased on the first MWR trading card and was one number short of being number one on the top 30 tag teams of the MWR years. No fan can forget the tag team of the Northstar Express. The only thing that matched how much charisma these two had was how much merchandise these two had on the gimmick table.

Seriously, great matches with just about every tag team you can name, the NSE quickly earned fans wherever they went.

Promoter Herb Simmons Responds on the MMWA-SICW situation. Is there a break up between MMWA and SICW?

I find myself responding to the article Ben Simon wrote regarding the issue with Ron Powers and the MMWA/SICW. I believe it’s time to set the record straight regarding the MMWA/ SICW issue first. It has been stated before by Ben Simon that MMWA/ SICW has split. I have attempted in the past to make it clear that those statements that he is making, are incorrect assumptions on his and a few others. Tony Casta and I have been the best of friends for many years and continue to be friends and will do so until one of us decides otherwise, so don’t hold your breath on that happening. Not Ben Simon or anyone will change that. Tony and I made that clear a few months back in the locker room at a South Broadway show. I continue to help Tony anyway that I can. Unless I was removed this past weekend while out of town with Keith Smith who is the MMWA/ SICW Commissioner in Chicago being a guest of Jim Cornett and Gary Juster of ROH, then I plan on being back behind the mic in September.

Now to set Ben Simon straight. He is no longer used at the show in Illinois due to him having his own agenda. He was filming the shows and putting them on his own program and using our talent and resources to benefit himself. IF I’m not mistaken he was even looking for sponsors. Now to do that is unacceptable in the business. Tony and I pay the talent and we have our own programs that we are trying to keep on air. Now if Ben wants to pay us and the talent then I say it’s okay for him to do this.

Ben Simon attended the open door session we held and tried out for the ring announcer position. He did okay but I don’t believe anyone told him he had a life time position. After a few try outs it was clear that Ben had a problem even adjusting to reading what had been wrote for him to announce. This was a conversation that was held between myself, Tim Miller and a few others. I have since begun using another individual from a local sports radio station that also helps promote the shows, (Good Business).

Ben Simon has continued to work at South Broadway and even with some mistakes he has made there I’m happy for him. I make no decisions on what takes place there. I have my own thoughts but keep them to myself. To further clarify to Ben, we attempted to work together on both shows but due to scheduling conflicts of some of talent needed in some of the story lines and due to the athletic board of Missouri being so hard on physical and license some workers have decided not to work there. This is an ongoing problem and nothing to do with a split of the two groups. In fact we attempted to run a few shows and a few of the main players from South Broadway had second thoughts and those matches were put on hold and held in Illinois. Tony and Keith are who I work with and the Ben Simon’s of the world and a few others need to understand that. Tony and I have been doing this longer then Ben Simon and the few others have been alive. Some may say we have been doing it to long, but I will put all my eggs in the basket with the like of Tony Casta, Keith Smith, Mr. Larry Matysik, and yes even the likes of Ron Powers.

I must say at this time I hate to agree with Ron but Ben Simon is so far off it’s almost amusing. In this business there is a term called a (Mark), its individuals like Ben Simon that word was meant for. He has certain areas that he may excel in but knowing the wrestling business isn’t one of them. He has been trying for so long to make an issue out of this so called MMWA/ SICW feuding that even after several times that it’s been explained to him he still don’t get it. It’s no different than when the WCW brought in the NWO, or when WWE brought on Smackdown, and the list goes own. The only thing I agree with him is that Ron Powers better not count Gary Jackson or any of the talent from South Broadway out.
They are some of the best in the business.

So please wrestling fans, and I’m sure you are if you are reading this great site that MWR provides for us don’t let the Ben Simon’s of the world mislead you. As I told Brian Kelley from MWR not so long ago, unless you hear it from Tony Casta or myself or from one of our team members like Keith Smith, don’t believe it. And Ben, this is WRESTLING, don’t get caught up in all the real work of the business, just sit back and enjoy and let those that have been doing this do it. The fans will let us know if they don’t like it.

I hope to see everyone at all the MMWA/ SICW shows.

And in the very near future on November 6th we will be supporting the return of ROH and Jim Cornett to the Collinsville Convention Center with the help of Larry Matysik.

Ron Powers shoots on Gary Jackson, Chris Hargas,Ben Simon, Herb Simmons, Larry Matysik and the MMWA-SICW .

To hear CWC Champion Ron Powers talk he has swept the competition away in 2011.

The most feared man in St Louis Ron Powers  has been on a rampage in 2011 causing fear and anger among fans and wrestlers alike. During the past year he has challenged promoter Herb Simmons and the wrestlers of MMWA-SICW.

For the fans that do not know there has been rumors that MMWA-SICW have been split in two different promotions. Though several of my close friends within the company claim this to be a fact, until promoters Tony Casta or Herb Simmons tell us themselves we are still viewing them as a single brand.

We start of with a reply from our friend Ben Simon, the former ring announcer from the SICW brand who is also the producer of ST LOUIS Wrestling on youtube. Ben replies on the story that MWR printed recently titled “Ron Powers to meet Chris Hargas and continues to warn MMWA-SICW ” and you can check it out here. For the record the misspelling was indeed my fault (Editor and Owner Brian Kelley) as I was writing down his quotes over the phone fromm Powers and when I set them to print I made the  mistake.

Ben Simon was one of the men that signed up for the MMWA-SICW open tryout. During it one of the men he interviewed was one of the top young talents in Central Illinois Blake Steel.

With that said let us start with Ben Simons reply to the CWC Champion on that post at MWR.

I take issue with Ron Powers commenting on the MMWA at South Broadway, only since it was SICW that wanted to break away.
Ron is the SICW Classic Wrestling Champion (who apparently can’t spell the name of his title correctly).
Ron is not the MMWA-SICW kingpin!

He rules Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling. However, the doors to the South Broadway Athletic Club are wide open. Ron, put your money and your anger issue where your mouth is and fight the MO/IL Heavyweight Champion, Gary Jackson.
I have watched these two great athletes in action and I have no doubt that “Gorgeous” Gary would knock the daylights out of Powers. Mr. Simmons, Mr. Matysik, TEAR DOWN THIS WRESTLING WALL!

-Ben Simon

It would not be long for word to get out to Ron Powers who was quick to respond. Ron Powers does not leave any words left unsaid. He has been a bully in 2011 while taking out his good friend Danny Boy for the title then targeting each and every legend that Herb Simmons can find.

First of all, Ben, you’re a dipshit. I don’t lay the format out for the articles. Did you ever think there are more people involved with the MWR website than just me? I know what my title is, and we know what yours is, a Jabrony. I want you to take issue with everything I say, and everything I do, because you are stupid enough to buy it. As far as Gary goes, He is a great athlete, and has very entertaining promos. But as long as I’m around, he will always be second best.

As far as the “open doors” at South Broadway, I don’t think so. The reason SBAC’s doors are open, is because nobody wants to wrestle there. Don’t you get it? You seem to be the only person from SBAC who even cares. And we all know how much you care. You’re the first one in the dressing room, and the last one to leave.

You also mentioned Benny, about tearing down “this wrestling wall”. Again, dumbass, get the story straight. The only people who built this wall, was all you idiots at South Broadway. Don’t EVEN compare yourselves to us! Hey, great Rhino match by the way. It sounds like the fans really got their money’s worth on that one. This is what I’m saying. You guys couldn’t coordinate a two car funeral. Broadway had great potential at one time. However, the loony’s took over the asylum. It’s an abyss of self-absorbed egos. If anyone has an issue with this, come see me at a real show this Sat. night at East Carondolet.

And last but not least, Herb and Larry. I hear you guys are passing around Pat O’Conner tapes. Could these tapes consist of a certain sleeper hold? Could you two be up to something again? Let me tell you this, it will not work on me. I have never been put to sleep by anyone in this business, and I won’t be. I don’t know what “victim” has learned this move, but it will not work on my 19″ neck, I guarantee you.

Chris Hargas calls out the fans for support this weekend in East Carondelet.

This Saturday night, at East Carondolet, Chas Wesson and Chris Harges, you two will know what it’s like to step between the ropes and fight for your lives, when you take on me and (Sean) Vincent. Herb, you said you would find someone to take me out one day. This Saturday will not be the day!

-Ron Powers

This weekend Chris Hargas has a chance to meet Ron Powers in East Carondelet to see if he can withstand the champions onslaught. Chris Hargas be prepared as the Midwest Bully, the Kingpin of MMWA-SICW Ron Powers is in no mood to play around as he has even called out the great beloved ST Louis wrestling announcer Larry Matysik.

Will Ron Powers continues his reign of terror this Saturday????….Be there.

3) The Gentleman’s Club (Devin Carter , Casanova , Mark Sterling and Gage Octane)

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 17, 2011

Various incarnations of the Gentlemen’s Club competed in 3XWrestling from Nov 2007 – December 2010, but regardless of the members, their overall impact cannot be denied. The Gentlemen’s Club was undoubtedly the most evil force in the history of 3XW, and their legacy lives on today in the 11-member supergroup Genesis. From 2007-late 2009, the Gentlemen’s Club consisted of the extraordinary team of Gage Octane and Mark Sterling, who held the 3XW Tag Team titles for 11 months after ending the record 20-month reign of the Northstar Express.

Sterling and Octane had excellent battles with The Northstar Express and The High Flyers (Mike Sydal & Zach Thompson). Octane and Sterling maximized their awesome in-ring ability with the managerial assistance of 3XW Commissioner Todd Countryman and together their formed a destructive combination.

4) Steve Fender and Mark Sterling

If you like perfection then the team of Steve Fender and Mark Sterling is the team for you.

Old School flavor with a mix of new age stamina left their opponents gasping for air and begging to stop. Fender and Sterling would dominate the WLW tag team scene becoming the longest reigning champions in that companies history.

Tony Kozina & the Ring of Honor World Champion Davey Richards speak out about the NWA Junior Championship, Craig Classic, AAPW, girls on Kozinas phone and NWA Supreme in October in Mattoon.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 16, 2011

This Sunday, I drove five hours to be in Mattoon Illinois to cover the exciting NWA Supreme/Pro Wrestling Prestige show.

The great day of action featured Ring of Honor World Champion Davey Richards, the man he defeated for the belt Eddie Edwards, the two time former NWA Junior Champion of the World Tony Kozina, Jimmy Jacobs, El Generico, the 2010 MWR Wrestler of the Year Mike Sydal and rising ROH star Kyle O’Rielly as they mixed it up with the Midwest champions Brandon Espinosa, Oliver Cain and the powerhouse Bear St Pierre.

The talent was off the roof in Mattoon Illinois and when the dust settled from the Vicious kicks from Richards and the deathly chops of Edwards I was able to catch up with the former NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Tony Kozina to get his thoughts on his quest to regain the title for a third time.

Let’s hear from the man Tony Kozina now….

What an interview that was, as the Champion of the World Davey Richards stated he will be at ALL American Pro Wrestling for a special TV Taping.

Davey Richards is worth the drive and price alone but you will also get to see the stars of ALL American Pro Wrestling including AAPW Champion Edmund McGguire, Shane Rich, Curly, “The Golden Boy” Greg Anthony, Carnage and many more.

So mark your calendar for this special Sunday show on August 28th doors open at 1 pm and a 2 o’clock start with ticket prices for a measly $10.00 and 12 and under only $6.00 for your chance to see Richards in action.

Then do not forget as Tony Kozina will take on Craig Classic on October 22 in Mattoon Illinois, I have spoken to NWA Promoter David Cavazos who states that this heated match is still set to take place.

5) Babewatch (Brandon Aarons, Mike Sydal, Brandon Espinosa)

Posted by flairwhoooooo on August 15, 2011

Photobucket

If you are talking tag titles then yes they should be down on the list some but if you are talking about impact then BABEWATCH shoots to the top. At MWR’S Pro Wrestling Showcase show they would lose not only the match but a dance off as well to the Northstar Express. Yet that match would send the word out to promoters that BABEWATCH was for real.

A cult following for many fans, the BABEWATCH team would groom the three stars to change the landscape of wrestling in the Midwest.

Brandon Aarons in 2010 was in the running for MWR Wrestler of the year along with a great match with then ROH Champ Tyler Black at Pro Wrestling Epic. Mike Sydal would win the PWI Rookie of the Year, and would be the man who would win the 2010 MWR Wrestler of the Year award while making multiple appearances with Ring of Honor including their WrestleMania weekend edition.

Brandon Espinosa has often been one of the most active wrestlers in the Midwest, but in 2011 he has turned it up a notch by capturing titles around the Midwest while getting wins against the likes of ROH and TNA stars Jimmy Jacobs, El Generico and Jay Lethal. There is no doubt that Espinosa is up for the 2011 MWR Wrestler of the Year with many good years to come.

The three Babewatch members were all included in this years PWI 500 and are among the future of Wrestling in the not only the Midwest but the country as well.
