MWR Exclusive: Young wrestlers learn from the best at Magnum Pro Wrestling – Adam Pearce.

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 11, 2012

By Brian Kelley

Though wrestling has changed throughout the years of Frank Gotch to Lou Thesz to Harley Race all the way to John Cena, but one constant has to be is proper training from the best in the sport. Earlier this year I was honored to be a special guest of Magnum Pro Wrestling as the then 4-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight champion Adam Pearce took the time to teach the next generation of wrestling hopefulls.

Pearce the night before had just defended the NWA Title in Des Moines, Iowa at 3XWrestling in a classic that looked as if “The Belt Collector” Jeremy Wyatt had become the new champion. On this day we were in Council Bluffs, Iowa Pearce was set to defend hisn title against “Babyface” Tony Cortez but first he was set to work with nine young wrestlers whom wisely took the time to learn from one of the premier wrestling minds in the game today in a seminar.

Pearce with over 15 years of experience in the ring has also been head booker of Ring of Honor while adding 4 NWA World titles to his resume. Each and every time I have seen Pearce in and out the ring, he has carried himself as a Champion. A man who can draw what fans call “HEAT” with the best I have ever seen. Considering that in today’s wrestling it is even harder to draw the fans in with that much emotion due to wrestling perceived to be sports entertainment that’s a HUGE compliment.

When I entered the building Pearce had already began the seminar with a few faces that the MWR fans may know such as the Beautiful Bodies Brian Gott and Derek Cornell who has captured gold in the coverage area. Let me say this, I don’t care how many matches you have had in the ring, for the small fee that Pearce and Magnum was offering this seminar, if you weren’t working a show that night then shame on you.

I say missed opportunities for you if there ever was one.

This look at the seminar is from a non- wrestler and wrestling columnist that could not teach you how to take a bump to save his life but  after being invited to cover over 200 plus shows in the Midwest over the last five years I have to say the first word in wrestling is ”safety” .

With the skill level of the nine men being so different from a beginner to two men who have been active in promotions around the Midwest Pearce would show that he is capable of working with several different levels of talent.

Pearce throughout the camp showed patience with the wrestlers as they made mistakes, when it was time to do a move Pearce asked each one of them if they felt comfortable doing what was asked. Pearce watched them do a lockup, have a mini match, and when needed   stopped the action to give his advice.

While I have been watching wrestling for 30 plus years it is amazing what the keen eye that Pearce had that I missed when watching the students in action. Soft spoken and caring Pearce not only watched but got in the ring to give hands on advice.

As the seminar came to a close, Pearce asked the students if they had any questions. Several were asked and answered by the Champion when one student Pete Sakaris, who has been a friend of MWR since its inception and has also been a ring announcer for Magnum Pro Wrestling asked Pearce about doing proper promos.

After a hard day of working on the basics and some very important information on how to keep the fans involved during the matches, the fun was about to begin. Pearce is the type of wrestler that could talk the fans to the matches. It is amazing how good his promo skills truly are. With that Pearce stated that for them to succeed that they would need to not only wrestle but have charisma. The remaining moments he challenged the wrestlers to shoot promos on each other.

If this would have been American Idol, Pete Sakaris would have been this years winner, with Magnum Pro Wrestling’s and Adam Pearce’s approval I am going to share 3 videos of Pete. The first two is Pete challenging Pearce himself and the third was one that I will never forget, Pearce challenging Pete to shoot on the whole room including the champ himself Pearce , Jaysin Strife and even MWR.

Photobucket

After the shoot promos of Pete, Pearce was all smiles.

At the end of the day I spoke to each of the trainiees who took part in the Adam Pearce seminar and each and every one of them stated the experience was well worth the time and money.

My advice to any wrestler in the Midwest when one of the best wrestlers in the area is giving a seminar, don’t be shy, don’t miss the chance to improve your skills.

Your fans will thank you for it.

MWR Trading Card #69 Miss Natural

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 10, 2012

During the Holidays, Metro Pro Wrestling was treated to a special elves match between Miss Natural, Lucy Mendez and Stacey O’Brien. Miss Natural seemed to not be pleased to be put in such a “diva type” match and took her frustrations out on O’Brien. – Photo Bill Smith

This past weekend in Kansas City at Metro Pro Wrestling fans were excited to get their own autograph MWR Trading card of Santana G as she made her way to the Midwest for the first time in a long time.

During intermission I spoke to fans that were excited of the addition of the MWR trading card #67 that featured the Ring of Honor bad boys The Briscoe Brothers. As the conversation continued the fans asked about Outkast who was number 68, and the MPW fans had seen him take on Pete Madden in 2011, and I told them that he and his tag partner Shorty Biggs had become the first ever NWA Dynamo Tag Team Champions the night before.

The next question I was asked was who was next, to which one fan looked at me and said “There is only one wrestler that is so fine that she HAS to be number 69, and that is Miss Natural.”

It just so happens that the fan was correct as Miss Natural is indeed number 69. Miss Natural is not just a female wrestler who has wrestled for several years, there is many who feel that she is among the most talented women of her era in the Midwest. Trained under 8-time NWA World Champion Harley Race and Ken Patera she is the most decorated World League Wrestling ladies Champion in the history of that promotion as she is a 5 –time Champion. She has also been able to capture two AWA Championships in her career.

Photobucket

Metro Pro Wrestling has been seeking a new commissioner ever since Matt Murphy lost that job at the end of the year. Fans were shocked to see that Steven J Girthy was able to convince Miss Natural to be his running mate. Should these two be able to win this election for the job, what could be in store for MPW Fans? - Photo Credit Brian Kelley

After a hiatus from the sport, Miss Natural has returned to action last year, and it would not take long for her to be back in Championship form. She has returned to WLW, made appearances at 3XW and been involved in some exciting matchups at Metro Pro Wrestling.

Though known for her beauty and hard hitting style, in 2012 she is about to use her brains as she surprisingly has joined up with Steven J Girthy to try to help him with the MPW commissioner position in the company.

Photobucket

Miss Natural will be in action along with many legends of the sport.

Later this month Miss Natural returns to Minnesota allowing the fans a chance to see the Natural beauty, the Natural wrestling skills and a chance to own an autograph MWR Trading card of Miss Natural.

Missouri Wrestling Revival is proud to announce that Miss Natural is now a member of the MWR Trading Card series as 69 in the set.

Michael Strider announces his last match will be against Adam Pearce on June 2, 2012

NEWS RELEASE FROM MICHAEL STRIDER:

Posted by flairwhoooooo on April 9, 2012

I am officially announcing that on June 2, 2012, at Turner Rec Center in Kansas City, I will have the final professional wrestling match of my career. Yep, it’s finally time to hang ’em up. I will have the honor of wrestling one of the best guys in the business Mr. Adam Pearce and would like to invite anyone and everyone who has ever seen me wrestle, wrestled with me, been part of my career, or has been part of my life to come out and help me celebrate the end of my life’s work in Pro wrestling. I’m giving everyone plenty of notice so no excuses!- Michael Strider

MWR Thoughts: There is no doubt that Michael Strider is among the top wrestlers in the Midwest in the past 15 years. A former NWA Central States Champion, a former Metro Pro Wrestling Champion and took part in the first ever MWR Match of the Year in 2008 against Jeremy Wyatt in a barb wire match that in a way we felt that Strider had passed the torch to the Rebel. In the match Wyatt would lose a nipple in a true war between the two men.

Photobucket

While presenting the award to both Strider and Wyatt along with Kari Williams at LWA in House Springs, Missouri, Strider relayed to me that if MWR had been around prior to that year he would have a whole wall full of the plaques. Though Strider said it with a smile and was just joking, it is my belief that what he said could have been very true.

Photobucket

Most recently Strider has been a vital component of not only bringing back pro wrestling to Kansas City but delivering pro wrestling the way it was meant to be. His last match will be against a man who he looked to have defeated for the NWA World Championship in 2011 Adam Pearce. One has to wonder what if Strider had become the Champion of the World that night? If so, maybe this announcement may not have been made this year.

Photobucket

Matt Murphy learned the hard way, you dont mess with Michael Strider- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

Photobucket

Yet, it has been announce from Strider himself and though we hate to hear the news, we will be there to take in one last great match from Strider against the former NWA Worlds Champion Adam Pearce on June 2nd in Kansas City for Metro Pro Wrestling.

Don’t miss this night as we show RESPECT to a man who has given his best to the fans in the Midwest for years, as it is sure to be a great night of action that you wont forget.

Congratulations to new NWA World Champion Colt Cabana.

Just under 24 hours since Adam Pearce survived a tour of the Midwest that saw him barley get out of town with his 10 pounds of Gold against Kahagas and Matt Murphy, a former rival in Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana defeats him in California for the title.

Photobucket

Congratulations from MWR  goes out to the charismatic Cabana who has in the past recently made appearances for Metro Pro Wrestling and All American Pro Wrestling respectfully. We look forward to the new worlds Champion return to the Midwest in the near future.

Though we have not been happy to see Pearce use underhanded tactics to hold onto his NWA Title during his fourth reign, there has been no doubt that the man has brought prestige back to the NWA by defending the title around the world. His title defense’s in KC, STL, Des Moines, Iowa and Council Bluffs was the first time the belt had been defended in these respected cities in many many years.

Photobucket

On Friday night at NWA Dynamo the NWA National Champion Kahagas wasn’t the only one after his title but also international superstar and currently undefeated in the Midwest Ricky Cruz was in the title hunt. Was the pressure of so many challengers from around the world getting into the mind of the 4-time NWA Champ? - Photo Credit Brian Kelley

His battles with Michael Strider, Jeremy Wyatt, Kahagas, Matt Murphy and “Babyface” Tony Cortez were all worth the price of admission alone to each of the shows that he main evented for.

Photobucket

“All That” Matt Murphy gave it his all but Adam Pearce looked unstoppable at times at Metro Pro Wrestling this past Saturday in Kansas City- Photo Credit Brian Kelley

It was an honor to be ringside at Metro Pro Wrestling as the last time that Pearce successfully defended the NWA Worlds title during his fourth reign this past weekend against  “All That” Matt Murphy.

Is the last ride over for Pearce?

We certainly hope that isn’t the case. Pearce is one of the best wrestlers in the world today, he can wrestle and talk with the best of them at any promotion in the World and is certainly capable of reclaiming the title from Cabana once again to start a fifth reign.

With or without the title Adam Pearce is a man who is still among the top wrestlers in the world today.
