Pro Wrestling Phoenix Returns this Saturday Night in Council Bluffs, IA

Come get spooky with Pro Wrestling Phoenix at WrestleVania II! Tensions are high and emotions running deep lately in PWP, and we have one of the biggest main events in our 9 year history for you on October 25th! Let’s see what’s in store!

MAIN EVENT – SIX MAN TAG TEAM MATCH:
“Simply the Best” Hype Gotti & “Babyface” Tony Cortez, & PWP Heavyweight Champion Darren “Thunder” Russell Vs. Branden Juarez & PWP Tag Team Champions Jeremy Wyatt & Mark Sterling

Things get shaken up a bit when two volatile situations get combined into one main event that is sure to be epic! Last month the Tag Team Champions Wyatt & Sterling attacked Abu Colossus, who ended up with a broken foot, unable to compete. Gotti took both men on in the scheduled singles matches, but after an attack, it was old friend/rival Tony Cortez who came to his aid. Now, Simply the Best teams together in PWP for the first time since 2008, and they have an amazing ally in Darren “Thunder” Russell! After successfully defending the Championship against “Showtime” Bradley Charles in September, Russell must once again step in the ring with Branden Juarez, as Juarez teams with the PWP Tag Team Champions Wyatt & Sterling. But there are so many questions! Can Juarez, Wyatt & Sterling co-exist on a team? Do Gotti & Cortez still possess the tag team skills to be called Simply the Best? And what if Darren Russell is pinned, would the person who pinned him be in line for a title shot? This main event will explode live October 25th, be there!

FIRST TIME EVER
“Showtime” Bradley Charles Vs. Marek Brave

PWP proudly presents a first time match up as Marek Brave debuts on October 25th to face “Showtime” Bradley Charles! Brave has been making his name throughout the independent wrestling scene for years now, and will finally have a chance to show the PWP fans what he’s made of! Bradley Charles has been unsuccessful twice this year in Championship matches, so he needs a win to maintain his position in the ranks. Can SBC defeat the PWP newcomer, or will Marek Brave make a name for himself in PWP? Don’t miss this one!

What’s next for Geek Singh?

Geek debuted in PWP earlier this year, with great success. Geek remained undefeated for several months….until he collided with Darren “Thunder” Russell, and that undefeated streak came to a screeching halt. Geek then lost matches to both Tony Cortez and Derek Cornell. He did however regain some momentum last month, by defeating “The Passion” Zac James, although not without using underhanded tactics. Will Geek return to the winning path, either by hook or by crook? We will see on October 25th!

All this plus much more featuring: “The Passion” Zac James, L-Ray & his “Manager Supreme” Axel Greece, Gunner Franks, and much, much more! Be there October 25th for WrestleVania II!

National Guard Armory

MWR’s Brian Kelley & SICW Promoter Herb Simmons Remember Ox Baker

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 20, 2014

 photo 000_zps773b049d.jpg

MWR Fan Relations Dubray Tallman was impressed with the one and only, Ox Baker.

From MWR Editor/Owner Brian Kelley

I woke up this morning before I headed to school to the sad news that the one and only Ox Baker had passed away. Prior to this year, Baker was a man that I had enjoyed in wrestling for having a great look and catchphrase. Then not so long ago, SICW promoter Herb Simmons called to let me know that he was the latest in the who’s who of the wrestling world greats that he was going to bring in for the fans to meet. I did some research and posted the highly entertaining episode of Baker on the legendary game show The Price is Right, in hopes that fans old and young would take the opportunity to meet the man.

A few days before the show, Baker was also a special guest on MissouriWrestlingRevival.com’s official podcastRingSyders“. During the broadcast with Ben Simon and Drew Abbenhaus, Ox Baker proved that he could still talk you in the building by hyping himself and his career in another great RingSyders interview.

During the night in East Carondelet, Illinois, Baker was happy to meet with the fans as they asked for autographs, photos or just a moment down memory lane. I have not always taken advantage of getting my photo with the wrestlers as I have been busy, but thankfully on this night (and possibly because of the RingSyders interview) I did ask for a photo not realizing that he would pass on not too long after. Baker was a gentleman all night and only added to my appreciation of the man.

Ox Baker, I would like to thank you for the memories in and out of the ring. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to your friends and family during this very sad moment.

Even at 80, Ox Baker was able to stand out. Here he is being interviewed in front of the SICW faithful by SICW promoter Herb Simmons.

From SICW Promoter Herb Simmons.

We lost another great legend in the wrestling business.  Not only did Ox Baker entertain us in the wrestling ring, but he starred in the box office hit, “Escape from New York“. He told the story when he was in with us how that came about. That part was scheduled for our other late friend, Bruiser Brody. Ox and Brody tried out for it, and Brody was given the part.  Ox told me when he got back home from the movie try out, he received a call telling him to come to St. Louis for the start of the movie, he hadn’t heard about the tragedy that happened to Brody, when the producer told him what happened, Ox was in shock, he couldn’t believe what he was being told, he told me he asked the producer, you mean Brody is gone and you want me back in St. Louis for the movie, and the producer told him, the show goes on. That always bothered Ox. He stated he always tells people that was Brody’s part and that Ox was just a fill in.

What a guy.

Brody was responsible for me meeting Ox. I sometimes get asked why SICW brings these legends in.  This is one of those reasons, these guys paved the way for the business, they work long and hard to entertain us, I feel the least I can do is show how much the fans appreciate what they have done for the business. So for those that are concerned about why SICW brings the legends in, worry no more. As long as they’re able and we are able to do so, we will continue to show our appreciation. Some day, the young wrestlers who are busting their butts will be legends, and hopefully there will be someone that will want to pay respect to them as we are doing.

Two of the greats of all time, Mr. Ox Baker and Bruiser Brody.

MO Inspector Moynahan Retires

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 20, 2014

 photo 01_zpsa65b18a3.jpg

Ed Moynahan took great pride in his job. Here he is seen with Dynamo Pro Wrestling promoters Jim and Crystal during his second to last job with pro wrestling. The following week he would finish up a great career at MMWA at the historic South Broadway Athletic Club.

By Ben Simon

Ed Moynahan was one of the longest-tenured inspectors for the Missouri Office of Athletics.  Moynahan retired on October 11, 2014, with his last event at the South Broadway Athletic Club.

Missouri is a state that regulates pro wrestling through its athletic commission.  Ed had been an inspector for the Office since 1994, but his experience in the fight game goes back to 1940.  That was the year, when at age 16, Moynahan first put on a pair of boxing gloves and participated in Golden Gloves amateur boxing.

His passion was boxing, but he was a very familiar face at St. Louis wrestling venues like the SBAC, Stratford Bar & Grill, Off Broadway, and others.  A St. Louisan for life, Moynahan holds a special place in the local wrestling scene.  Dynamo Pro Wrestling media coordinator Luke Roberts explained the connection at Ed’s penultimate event.

“I got my Missouri license through Ed, and that was a long time ago.  I know most of the boys here tonight, even the old timers, filed their papers through him way back in the day,” Roberts said backstage.

In November 2014, a new inspector took the helm at MMWA and Dynamo Pro cards.  There is still someone to make sure blood work and other precautions are on the up-and-up, but there won’t be another Ed Moynahan.  Enjoy Napa Valley.

Rob Schamberger will paint a portrait of Sting outside of the Sprint Center before WWE Raw

Posted by flairwhoooooo on October 16, 2014

Posted By Justin Kendall on the Pitch

 photo wrestlemania_rob_schamberger_zpsf922171e.jpg

Monday night’s edition of Raw at the Sprint Center is shaping up to be a big night for WWE. Hulk Hogan is advertised to make his first appearance in Kansas City in more than a decade. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair is also rumored to be walking that aisle. John Cena and Dean Ambrose are scheduled to for combat against Seth Rollins, Randy Orton and Kane in a street fight. And Triple H has promised to bring Hell in a Cell — a 20-foot, five-ton steel cage — to the Sprint Center.

But before that all goes down live on the USA Network, Kansas City-based artist Rob Schamberger will be outside the Sprint Center painting a new portrait of WCW legend Sting. He’ll be set up next to a merchandise trailer around 3 p.m.

In April 2012, The Pitch profiled Schamberger, who was on a quest to paint every world champion wrestler. Since then, Schamberger’s wrestling art has taken him across the United States. Near the end of 2013, he started officially working with WWE. He painted the mural above live from WWE Axxess, the wrestling organization’s fan festival during WrestleMania weekend, in New Orleans. And he watched the Super Bowl of professional wrestling from the private box of the Ultimate Warrior in the Super Dome.

“Getting the star treatment at WrestleMania was awesome,” Schamberger says. “Painting live at Axxess was a huge undertaking — 20-hour days for four or five days straight and more napping than sleeping — but it was tremendous exposure, so I wanted to be there from opening to close so I didn’t miss anything.”
